How Important Is Environment to Patients Suffering from...
How Important is Environment to patients Suffering from Alzheimers or Dementia:
Is there no place like home?
With an aging population in Canada it is becoming more apparent that housing is quickly becoming a
major area of concern. Should seniors stay in their own homes or more to residential care setting
which can provide 24 hour care? This is a difficult decision not only for the older individual, but also
for their family, friends and support system. In this review I will take a look at some of the research
done regarding this issue. The effect of one s environment seems to have a significant impact on how
well an individual does in various setting whether it be their own homes or in institutional setting.
A great deal of research has taken place to understand the effect of one s environment on older patients
with dementia or Alzheimers and the importance of personal adjustment to various types of
institutional or home settings. How patients feel about the environment they are in is relevant and
directly related to how the patients progress within their diagnoses and their ability to maintain
cognitive function. (Chuck, Milke, Beck, 2005, p. 330)
The research done to date on the impact of one s environment on how well they adjust to residential
settings for dementia and Alzheimer s patients, seems to indicate that there definitely exists a strong
correlation between the individual and their ability to adapt to the residential setting. One of the key
factors

Explain What It Means To Be Blind Or Low Vision
4. Describe what it means to be blind or low vision.
I want to say what a joy it is to have your son joining us this year in class. As you know I am the
special education teacher here and this is the kindergarten teacher, we want to get started to make sure
your son gets the best education possible here. Since your son is legally visually impaired which
means his visual acuity of 20/270 to 20/200 in the better eye even with correction and he does wear
glasses correct (book)? Since he is visually impaired and not under the category of legally blind which
has 20/200 even with correction, we have to figure out the best plan for his learning ability and his
needs. We will be setting up an IEP, which is a plan or program developed to ensure that a child who
has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary educational
institution receives specialized instruction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you were telling me epilepsy is a chronic neurological condition and has recurrent seizures (book).
We know that your daughter doesn t have any other issues such as intellectual disability or cerebral
palsy thank goodness. Epilepsy falls under physical disability and health impairment which are those
with physical limitations or health problems interfere with school attendance or learning to such an
extent that they require special services (book). We at the school want to make sure going ahead that
we meet your daughter s needs medically and educationally. You have informed us that she is
currently being put on a medication. As you informed us your daughter s epilepsy causes her seizures
to be more frequent and hopefully that this medication will cause them to lessen or perhaps cease to
exist. Unfortunately, a lot of the medications can cause difficulty in learning but we won t know if that
is the case until we watch her

Historical Epidemiological Study Trends On The Causal...
SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF HISTORICAL EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY TRENDS IN
ESTABLISHING THE CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HPV AND CERVICAL CANCER:
For centuries, the etiology of cancer of the cervix remained unknown and there were several attempts
by past scientists to establish the cause of cervical cancer without much success. However, the earliest
breakthroughs came in the 1930s while Dr Richard Shope of the Rockefeller University was working
on wild rabbits that had developed horn , which upon further analysis, was caused by a virus that
could be transmitted. This discovery played a crucial part in the subsequent studies by Dr Zur Hausen
(Cummings 2011).
According to Moghissi and Mack (1968), one of the earliest epidemiological studies to probe into the
relationship between sexual intercourse and cervical cancer involved prostitutes in a prison in the U.S
whose exceptional social peculiarities bordered on sexual intercourse with multiple partners. This
epidemiological study concluded by identifying early exposure to coitus and multiple sexual partners
as the primary etiologic bases for the development of cancer of the cervix.
In the classic research by Gagnon involving the study of 13,000 Canadian Nuns, he found no single
case of cervical cancer (cited in Fenoglio 1982). This was a significant finding in that it concretized
the association between sexual exposure and cancer of the cervix thereby paving the way for further
descriptive studies to investigate the relationship.

Sue Monk Kidd s The Secret Life Of Bees
Sue Monk Kidd portrays the time and place in the Secret Life of Bees by displaying Rosaleen working
in the peach farms, then taken in to work in the house, giving the task of a housekeeper and Lily s
nanny. Around ten years after, Lily turning 14, Rosaleen learns how to read and write her own name in
order to turn in her ballot voting for J.F. Kennedy. Attempting to vote, Rosaleen and Lily were
ambushed by a trio of white racists men, resulting in physical abuse of Rosaleen. When the police
arrived, the white civilians claimed assault against Rosaleen, who is taken into jail charged with
assault, theft(of a church fan ), and abuse. Lily, caught up in between, also ended up in jail, to be later
bailed out by her furious father. Determined, Lily breaks Rosaleen out of jail after finding out just how
much Frank [he assaulted Rosaleen in jail so crudely that she had to go to the hospital] despised

The Veldt Theme Analysis
In The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, he shows that obsession, at times can turn into madness. This theme is
presented in many ways including how the children don t have any social time. These kids only want
to be with the Veldt and never with their parents or peers. The madness part of the theme comes in at
the end of the story when the kids obsession controls their actions. Also, there are many different
themes but i do believe that this is a major and important theme. This proves that The Veldt shows that
obsession can turn into madness. One reason that The Veldt shows obsession and madness is because
of the way the kids only spend time in the Veldt. Therefore, the kids need more family time. They are
so obsessed with the African Savanna they d

First Day High School
Imagine a group of kids are walking down the street heading to school and all the sudden something
falls from the tree. As the group looks up they find it to be a brownish oddly shaped leaf has fallen
from the tree above. Once everyone notices they can consider that the leaves are now falling and the
season of fall is about to be approaching. Many Americans in the northern states tend to see leaves fall
in the months of September through November. These months always bring family and friends
together for college football games and Thanksgiving. What make these months so special are all the
fun activities going on in our busy lives. There is the beginning of school starting for Kindergartners
and the last first day of high school for seniors. These months bring high school pep rallies and
homecoming festivities. Most people have considered fall as being one of my favorite times of the
year due to the leaves falling and the changing of seasons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

American History X Essay
American History X
Will racism ever come to an end or will its path go on infinitely? For the most part, the majority of
people respect those who are different either in color, race, and/or heritage; however, there are those
few that hold bigoted views towards people who are different than they are. The movie American
History X by Tony Kaye displays an example of people who hold bigoted views. Derek, a Neo Nazi
leader, must contend with his actions relating to his past racist views and actions. This powerful movie
explores its characters thoroughly and gives reasons why people become so callous and turn towards a
racist group. It also exposes insight to problems that plague America when it comes to racism in ...

Derek realized that hatred towards people did not help him, his family, or the situation at hand. Instead
of being negative and destructive, why not be positive. Hurting people and destroying property does
not solve problems, but only makes them worse by causing more resentment and tension between
people (Theriou). Nothing good has ever come out of a situation where one person has been the victim
of a crime or abuse. Good things come out of situations where people show hospitality, good will, and
compassion; not hatred.
It is made very clear that Derek and Danny have no affiliations with the Ku Klux Klan. Derek calls the
KKK a bunch of disorganized rednecks that very inanely run around with sheets on their heads.
Instead they are part of a Neo Nazi group in Southern California. In America today there are estimated
to be about 200,000 members
602 3 associated with white power groups (included in these estimates are supporters and hard core
members plus their families) (Suall). That is a lot of people who are affiliated with known racist
groups. When looking on the Internet a person can realize how much hate is present in our world.
John Hron website has estimates of Neo Nazis in countries and a little bit about how that country
views Nazism. America has about 85,000 Neo Nazi members compared with 47,000 German Neo
Nazis. Germany though has a lot

Investigating Crime and Relevant Issues Essay
Investigating Crime and Relevant Issues
Crime is defined as an act which is prohibited by criminal law. These criminal activities are prohibited
for the protection of society as a whole, or a section of society. Each country has its own series of
prohibited criminal acts. In England, if a criminal act is committed, the persons responsible are issued
punishment of a fine, community service or imprisonment. Although criminal activity is seen by
society to be morally wrong, and is punishable, people still continue to commit crime.
Forensic psychology attempts to apply psychological principles to the criminal justice system. For
many years psychologists have tried to explain why some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Individuals that had these features were considered to be a more primitive type of human being.
Among the features which Lombroso identified were the following: an over sized brain; squinting
eyes; prominent eye brows and a projecting jaw.
Lombroso believed that these primitive humans could not adjust socially or morally to civilised
society, could not distinguish right from wrong, had no remorse or guilt and therefore could not form
meaningful relationships. Lombroso determined, Some people are born with a strong, innate
predisposition to behave antisocially, (L Uomo Delinquente, Lombroso, 1876).
Evaluation of Lombroso s Theory
Lombroso made a major contribution to establishing the study of criminal behaviour and was
responsible for moving the study of criminology towards scientific research, indicating that biological
influences could affect criminality.
However Lombroso s experiments cannot be considered to be valid because he never compared his
criminal sample to a non criminal control group or took account of racial and ethical differences. He
recorded inaccurate measurements, which were not based on proper statistical techniques or an
accurate understanding of human physique. Also a large proportion of Lombroso s sample had
psychological disorders. This would mean that there was no

Against Gay Marriage
So many people in America and around the world are against Gay Marriage and Gay Rights in
general. Why can t the LGBT community feel comfortable with who they are? Also, why can t people
around the world be happy for them? Why is being gay wrong if it s something that makes that person
happy? It upsets me how much cruelty there is around us, especially with people who want to love
others of the same gender as them. Honestly if someone is a part of the LGBT community it is
perfectly fine in my opinion. If you judge a person for being themselves before getting to know them
first, then don t get mad if decides to judge you. Everyone should be able to live their lives the way

What doesn t make sense is why can t people be happy for them? Being gay doesn t affect the world in
a negative way. It s not like if you re gay you re a threat to society, you just love who you love. I think
all consenting adults who want to commit to a life partner ought to be treated the same way. (John
Stossel). This quote from this author is really well said and I agree with it. If everyone was treated the
same and not judge other people for who they are then there would be less hate in the world. Even
though in religions it is frowned upon for two people of the same gender to get married, it is still the
union of two souls, whether it be man and man, woman and woman, or man and woman an expression
of love and commitment to each other as well as the rest of the world. (Carrie Gilleand). I also agree
with this statement because love is love no matter who you end up loving whether it be the same

First-Grade Classroom Evaluation
This first grade classroom has a wealth of printed text, both on the walls and on bookshelves and
within technology. While not always apparent at first glance, a little digging produced resources for
both the teacher and students. While to my eyes, these appeared hidden away, the teacher was quickly
able to point me in the direction of the resources.
In general, this first grade classroom rated outstanding with a score of 10/15. The outstanding rating
was given as an indication of a classroom full of written text which is presented in multiple
modalities. The written text is readily available as a resource for students who still need that extra
assistance when applying new strategies for reading and writing.
The classroom rated a score of 2/15 for the adequate category and 3/15 for the inadequate category. To
be fair, the score for the inadequate category is, in part, more a reflection of the grade level of
students. Specifically, textbooks are not used with first grade other than as a resource for math
worksheets. Additionally, many lower grade teachers at this school have not recognized the usefulness
and impact of non fiction periodicals for use with their students. The lower scoring items can be

Techniques In Of Mice And Men
And will there be rabbits, George? Yeah, Lennie. There ll be rabbits.
There is a certain curse attached to the most familiar lines in literature. Because we know them so
well, we tend to smile when we encounter them, and they can break the reality of the story they re
trying to tell. What stage Hamlet has not despaired of getting through To be, or not to be? in one

In John Steinbeck s novel Of Mice and Men, made into an enduringly popular movie, the lines about
the rabbits have became emblems for the whole relationship between George and Lennie the quiet
spoken farm laborer and the sweet, retarded cousin he has taken under his arm. I would not have
thought I could believe the line about the rabbits one more time, but this movie made me do it, as
Lennie asks about the farm they ll own one day, and George says, yes, it will be just as they ve

Music Programs In Schools

can help students in so many aspects of life, but schools aren t investing in the music program. (How
much on average is a music program cost?) All high schools need to have elective music programs in
order to see benefit their grade averages, to create career preparation, to build teamwork skills, and to
boost student participation in school. Schools are so focused on grade improvement and getting better
scores on state mandated tests each year that they are not taking the time to think about the benefit that
music programs could achieve in this aspect. It has been proven that music students score higher on
standardized tests than non music students. (What percentage?) (Where else, how else do we see grade
improvement?) (What is the average scores received?) Because of higher grades and classes offered in

Teamwork is established by the need to blend together and be on time with each other, as well as the

audience will not enjoy that performance. (What more can I say about friendship?) There are also
many team building exercises that are done when training in order for a successful show. In marching

central Europe south to the Mediterranean and east through eastern Siberia, Scotch pine can be found

Most people use it for Christmas and they intend to decorate it with ornaments, lights, and many more
decorations. Especially by making it their own, they collect ornaments throughout the family and put
them on their tree and put the family s presents under it. The first Christmas trees appeared in
Germany in 1531. Thomas Edison s assistant, Edward Johnson, came up with the idea of electric
lights for Christmas trees in 1882. Christmas tree lights were first mass produced in 1890. The official
Christmas tree tradition at Rockefeller Center began in 1933. Since 2004 the tree has been topped with
a 550 pound Swarovski Crystal star. And since 2007, the tree has been lit with 30,000 energy efficient
LED s which are powered by solar panels. In 1856 Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United
States, was the first President to place a Christmas tree in the White House. In 1984, the National
Christmas tree was lit on December 13th with temperatures in the 70 s, making it one of the warmest
tree lightings in history. In 2012, 46 million Christmas tree seedlings were planted by U.S. growers.
The first Christmas tree retail lot in the United States was started by Mark Carr in New York, in 1851.
The most popular Christmas trees are, Scotch pine, Douglas fir, noble fir, Fraser fir, balsam fir,
Virginia pine and white pine. The mean average purchase price of a live tree in 2012 in the United

MoGen is a leading company in the recently surging biotechnology industry that specializes in human

business model for all biotech companies is fairly similar: through extensive R D, create new medical
drugs, obtain FDA approval and product patents and launch them into the market.

Since repurchases reduce the shares outstanding, it kept the EPS relatively steady despite the dilutive
effects on EPS from the convertibles.
The share repurchase also provided a positive signal to the market that the company viewed its stock
as undervalued, a strategy that could encourage investors to increase their positions in the firm.
Fund Usage and Firm Needs in 2006
By 2006, MoGen needed an additional $10 billion of funding for various projects that aimed to
improve manufacturing capacity and processes, formulation, fill and finish capacity, investment in R
D and late stage trials, acquisition and licensing, and stock repurchasing.
To improve manufacturing processes and reduce supply risks, the firm estimated a $1 billion R D, a
vital component of the business needed a 30% increase in funding, totaling to an additional $3 billion.
Mogen was also looking to acquire Genix, Inc. and their intellectual capital for approximately $2
billion. Finally, the management team also wanted to maintain the share repurchase program and
expected to spend $3.5 billion.
All of these projects add up to a total of roughly $10 billion. Internally generated funds were estimated
to be $5 billion from net income and depreciation, requiring MoGen to find the other half of the
funding from a different source.
In search of additional funding, MoGen considered raising the $5 billion by issuing

The Use Of Darkness In The Night By Arthur Miller
Darkness is hardly ever seen as a positive entity. Children are taught to fear the dark, that monsters lie
in the absence of light. Darkness is a powerful image that authors use to their advantage in building up
the scene and mood within their writing. Arthur Miller is no exception. He uses the contrast of dark
and light to build up suspense and mood. He is also able to foreshadow the upcoming events with the
use of night. To start, the play opens up with the scene of Paris accusing Abigail of being in the woods
late in the night, [ find quote] This use of darkness symbolizes the sinister act of witchcraft. The effect
of these actions results in Betty lying in bed, sick. She supposedly cannot move and is despondent.
She s been like this since midnight, Then why can she not move herself since midnight? (pg.10) It s
almost as if the bleeding darkness is also at fault for Betty s illness, that it isn t just witchcraft that ails
her. Darkness is further diminished when the image of light comes to make an appearance. In the play,
light is seen as something holy. Hale equates light to God s holiness and sees it as a way to purify
Tituba, ... open yourself and let God s holy light shine on you. (pg.45) In addition, the dark also is a
foreshadowing element. In the beginning of Act II, the scene is set at the Proctor s house in the night.
What keeps you so late? It s almost dark. (pg.49) The mood between the two characters, John Proctor
and his wife, Elizabeth is harsh,

The Preface Starts Off By William Lloyd Garrison
The preface starts off by William Lloyd Garrison describing his encounter with Frederick Douglass at
an anti slavery convention in Nantucket. Garrison tells us that Frederick Douglass made an escape
from the southern prison house of bondage and that his speech at the convention was a memorable
one. Frederick Douglass s had eloquence and a skill of persuading. Connecting people s minds and

describes. As soon as Frederick Douglass finished his speech, Garrison arose and declared that the

Rather than the descriptions revealed by the masters who might have hide the significant facts about
his slaves life and the mistreatments they receive. Phillips was also glad to learn a lot of the true facts
from Douglass s narrative and learns the wretchedness of death that gathers over the souls of the
slaves before they could even learn their A B C s. Phillips also mentions that Frederick Douglass
originates from a state (Maryland) where the conditions for a slave were less harsh than the other
states in the Deep South. Where one can only imagine the horrors that surrounded the slaves in those
states. Wendell Phillips also praises his book and is also confident that whoever reads his book will be
persuaded towards the cause of anti slavery and that since Frederick Douglass is a marvelous and
persuasive speaker, his book will also consist of the same elements. Finally, he mentions to his friend
about how he wrote his own name and his masters names clearly in his narrative, making it dangerous
upon himself. Phillips also relates this choice towards the founding fathers when they wrote their
names on the Declaration of Independence. Here we can admire Frederick Douglass s bravery and that
he is not scared to spread the truth about the reality of slavery that many do not know.

Day is assumed to be just a scary version of Groundhog Day, these two movies have more differences
and similarities in characters, situations, and setting than people might think. The main character of
both movies begin the storyline as self centered people. They are rude and have no concern for the
people around them. The main character from Happy Death Day, Tree Gelbman is a blonde sorority
sister in college. In the beginning of the movie, Tree wakes up, hungover, after getting drunk from a
party the previous night which makes her late to a lecture. This indicates that she is irresponsible and
what most people consider to be the average partying college student. The main character in
Groundhog Day, Phil Connors, is a weatherman who thinks he s above everyone else. In the movie
this character uses sarcasm, irony, and does his best to ignore everyone and live a life of solitude. One
thing these two characters have in common is falling for the people that they thought they never would
in the beginning. Tree falls for Carter Davis, the college student whose dorm she woke up in after the
party. Phil Connors falls in love with Rita Hanson, a news producer who works in the same studio as
him. These Two characters are stuck in incredibly similar situations with very slight differences. They
are both trapped in a time loop that shows some sort of relevance in their lives and they have to do
figure out what they need do in order to move on to the next day. In the beginning they simply think it
s deja vu, but after they realize they will always wake up to the same day, even if they die, they begin
to enjoy immortality and use it to their advantage. In her time loop, Tree Gelbman wakes up to the
sound of university bells in another college student s (Carter Davis s) dorm room after a party. She
walks back to her sorority house,

your bag or clothing; you decide what your baby is going to be like. Designing babies should be
illegal, because it creates a gap in society and it is not safe.. First things first, imagine a future class

The Father Of String Quartets
Known primarily as the father of string quartets , Joseph Haydn played an extremely important role in
the development of the string quartet. When the composer first arrived on the scene, the usual name
given to a string quartet composition was actually considered a divertimento . This title was a general
term to describe any one on a part type instrumental music that was compatible with a variety of
different music scorings, styles and character. It wasn t until about 1780 that modern titles/terms such
as the quartet and quintet become common for serious chamber music in the now standard scoring.
(Eisen, Grove, String Quartet ) This change of terminology that happens during Haydn s career does
not imply that there was nothing serious being performed on strings prior to terminology change. In
fact, examples of serious works can be found during Haydn s op.9 (1769 70) early divertimentos, with
a cello playing the bass line. This serious work of Haydn also incorporated a new idea within the
world of string quartets, a four movement scheme. Throughout the four movements the textures were
varied, having moments of a possible elaborated homophonic trio sonata style , paired with a more
contrapuntal polyphonic style.
Another characteristic that encouraged stylistic growth were the various fugal moments being
introduced throughout string quartet music during this time. The Viennese set k168 73 (1773) by
Mozart illustrates an irregular phrase construction,

Waiting For Godot Literary Analysis
Literary texts such as short stories, poems, and dramatic texts are usually read for pleasure and
entertainment. They may be a haven for some who want to take a break from reality. When one reads,
he or she plunges into a new space, or a new world, created by the author s imagination. At the same
time, the reader is also seeing life and reality through the author s eyes. Literature reflects the human
life and condition in a way that it enables readers to relate with the characters and their situations. It
depicts how humans try to cling to life and search for its meaning and purpose. However, life is truly
meaningless and humans just create the illusion of desire to justify their own existence. Some may

Vladimir and Estragon are humans, and their repeated scenario is life. Life is meaningless. Man just
makes up the desire, the Godot, the illusion that life has meaning that he gives himself to justify his
own existence in this world. He continuously waits for Godot, even though he is not certain if he will
ever come. While they wait, they get distractions in Pozzo and Lucky, which makes them believe that
something is actually happening. Like in a man s life, he has distractions while waiting for his desire
to arrive. And because he feels that something is happening, he is led to believe that life is not nothing
after all and that he is heading somewhere because something is happening.
Throughout the play, Estragon repeatedly tells Vladimir that they should leave and abandon the wait,
but Vladimir would always remind him that they cannot go and that We re waiting for Godot. (Beckett

what if life is truly meaningless? What if this Godot is not really coming and this long wait is all for
nothing? But he also has Vladimir who reminds him: But what if you leave and Godot does

How Did Greek Culture Influence The Minoan Culture
In order to explain the influence the Minoan and Mycenaean cultures had on the later Greeks it is
important to understand the beginnings of Greek culture. The first known civilization of Greek culture
were the Minoans, consequently, there is not a lot of information about this group (The Flow of
History, 2007). The language used by the Minoans is referred to as Linear A, the language is said to
have been the foundation for later Greek language. The Mycenaeans broadened the Linear A language
to make it their own, it is known as Linear B.
The Minoans were thought to be a peaceful society, conversely, the Mycenaeans were geared most
toward warfare. The peacefulness of the Minoan culture is depicted in their artwork, pottery, as well as
their architecture (The Flow of History, 2007). The ruins of the palaces from the Minoans do not
display any fortification to indicate they needed to protect themselves from enemies. The weapons
used in later Greek culture was similar to the weaponry crafted by the Mycenaeans, as well as the
Minoans. The noted difference is the metal, the Minoans and the Mycenaeans crafted their weapons
with bronze the later Greeks used iron (Matthews et. al., 2014). ... Show more content on

The Electronic Medical Record
For a nation to be technologically advanced, the United States (U.S.) is having a hard time
overcoming the dark era of utilizing hand written scripts, progress notes, and paper records. In
comparison to other countries, the U.S. is lagging behind in the health care system. Even with all the
improvements that have been made recently, the U.S. ranked last in 2014 in areas such as access,
efficiency and equity compared to Australia, Canada, France Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand,
Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (Davis, Stremikis, Squires, Schoen, 2014).
Now, as our nation is trying to improve the quality, access, and proficiency of our health care,
concerns have been raised whether the new policies are adequate enough for privacy amongst sharing
and obtaining health information. This paper was put together to give background information on how
the electronic medical record came about and whether privacy is a major concern amongst the
American population.
Background
The dark era of medical records caused people s private health information not to be safe. A few
examples of how patient records were not protected includes patient records were found in dumpsters
outside of physician s offices, patient records were found washed ashore in Maine, and in one instance
a teacher from Salt Lake City purchased medical records from 28 Florida hospitals to use as scrap
paper for her students (Thede, 2010). Moreover, in the past patient records used to be fully

Voting Rights Arguments
The key arguments for returning voting rights to felons and passing the Democracy Restoration Act
(DRA) include advancing democracy, protecting public safety, and eliminating the remnants of Jim
Crow. The DRA would return the right to vote to felons, who are out of jail and living in communities
throughout the United States. This would give 4.3 million more Americans the right to vote.
Supporters of the DRA argue that it advances democracy adding additional voters and maintains the
American principle of inclusion. They also argue that most European countries either allow voting
rights to prisoners or restore them once the prisoners are reincorporated into society. Proponents of the
DRA also contend that it further protects public safety by giving felons an incentive to avoid
committing future crimes. Bringing felons into the political fold rather than excluding them as
political outsiders helps to deter them from committing crimes. They also argue that the DRA is a key
part of the re incorporation process into society for felons and allows for some hope that continuing to
live a crime free life will be rewarded. The DRA also helps to eliminate some disenfranchisement
suffered by the African American community since the days of slavery and Jim Crow. The fact that
African Americans are seven times more likely to be in prison than Whites and in three states (FL, KY,
and VA) 20% of the African Americans have become disenfranchised is a major problem. The

Overview of Darden Restaurants
Darden Company Analysis
Part A. Operations/Supply Chain Strategy
Darden Restaurants
, founded in 1968, is the largest full service dining restaurant company in the world. It is
headquartered in Orlando, Florida, but serves the global market with the brands of Olive Garden, Red
Lobster, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, Capital Grille, and the Long Horn Steakhouse Chain. The
company boasted close to $8 billion in 2012 revenue, with a net income of $475 million. It has
180,000 employees and almost $6 billion in total assets (www.darden.com).
Darden has four supply channels: smallware (restaurant supplies); frozen/dry canned products, fresh
food, and seafood. The common features of the supply channel management are the qualification of
the supplier, product tracking, global sourcing, independent audits of suppliers and the ability to
manage just in time inventory.
Part B. Supplier Relationship and Structure
Darden takes its suppliers very seriously, prior to doing business, the supplier must be qualified and a
Total Quality Management Team assigned to that vendor. Product tracking occurs with inspection
teams that identify the lot ID, atmospheric packaging, and the ability to track the order from origin to
receipt of goods. For their many restaurants, Darden structures its supplies from 5 continents and
thousands of suppliers, but insists on independent and accurate assessments in order to maintain
relationships. Everything must be JIT inventory except smallware.

Pro Self Driving Essay
Hello I m your host Ben Bush and today we will be discussing the pro/ con issues of the self driving
car. First off this is a new concept and just think, would you trust a car that drives without human
control? It s a strange question but with companies like Uber using these self driving cars for their
business the concept of self driving cars is no longer just an idea for the future, it s quite apparent that
it s a current event. Cons, most likely the more important part of this issue is the safety of the
passengers and other drivers. These cars have been known to cut off busses and make incomplete
stops at stop signs. The safety of these cars is often criticized but even if they do make a few mistakes
is it better than the average human driving?

Essay on Poverty in Social Classes
Poverty in Social Classes
The world contains a lot of societies, cultures, and classes. Each household belongs to some social
class that represents their level of education, their work position, and their financial status. These
different classes have created a conflict between people. It fills rich people s minds with the thought
that poor people are criminals, and that conflict ended up with creating poverty. The authors Gilbert,
Kahl, Magnet, and Gans are discussing the important causes and reasons that created poverty in
comparing and contrasting these points with each other.
Weber believes that educated people are more likely able to make a better society than non educated
ones. This is seen when the authors say, Weber was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crimes were created from this class throughout the years. In contrast, the authors say, So even as men
regained a measure of security from criminal impulses that had arisen among them, the unjust
inequality of wealth that had given the birth to crime in the first place was institutionalized in society
at the very moment of its foundation. (qtd. in Gilbert and Kahl 449). This shows the belief of the
authors that the underclass people are more likely to be criminals than happy secure people.
Magnet alludes to statements made by Plato, St. Augustine, Hobbes, Burke, and Freud and points out
that each of these thinkers concluded as men come from the hand of nature, they are instinctively
aggressive, with a built in inclination to violence (451). Magnet, though, examines poverty s
underlying causes, identifies the conditions necessary for its reduction, and offers the more sensible
analysis of the condition. On the other hand, Gans, however, sees things differently. He believes
poverty is caused by mainstream society, which suppresses the poor and creates a social climate
hostile to the poor.
Clark takes an utterly uncompromising tack. Crime among poor blacks... flows clearly and directly
from the brutalization and dehumanization of racism, poverty, and injustice. (qtd. in Magnet 450).
In contrast, Gans believes that black troubles and misbehavior are caused more by poverty

The Relationship Between Visual And Verbal Elements
From the beginning there are comparisons, pro and cons, communication channel and important role
about the visual elements. Next would be the relationship visual and verbal elements. The relationship
between the visual and verbal element is a complete mutual. Verbal elements in advertising are very
important when we want people to recognize the product and associate it with good attributes. In other
words, verbal elements may get the most attention getting and memorable to decide and implement in
advertising. The image and text are potentially equal contributors to meaning, even though the specific
examples might give emphasis to one or the other modality. Visual and verbal information may
contain structural and functional elements (MacInnis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stakes for evolving cross modal meaning as a rhetorical move are quite high, because language
alone is not always enough to communicate shared understanding. These personal connections can
support engagement with the text because they help the reader establish a known context for that
engagement. But when an audience does not have the experience to imagine, or when an idea has not
enough features that imagining can fail to present a basic problem with language, as the carrier of
thought, surfaces. That s why the cross modal meaning might be more rhetorically useful. On top of
that, MĂźller Brockmann, the father of the grid, championed this idea. He believed that typography and
grid elements should present content in a neutral fashion (as cited in Susan M.hagan 2007). The
typographic interplay, on the other hand, identifies the meaning potential between typographic shape
and text. This is because typographic interplay emerges when the characterized by tie, the blend
interacts with the perceptual tie. Also, shared location results in the tightest relationship between text
and image. Blends and shared location might seem to be nearly the same meaning as another in the

Cleopatra First Women Of Power Essay
Cleopatra, past Queen of Egypt, was born 69 BC and died 30 BC in Alexandria, Egypt. In the

William Shakespeare s play does not provide.

Cleopatra had the ability to become a powerful ruler, both Julius Caesar and Antony distracted

Playing Violent Video Games On Children
Playing Violent Video Games
When kids get bored they turn to their PlayStation four, Nintendo DS, or Xbox and play their favorite
games. According to the journal of the American Medical Association, Several peer reviewed studies
have shown that children who play M rated games are more likely to bully and cyberbully their peers,
get into physical fights, be hostile, and show aggression towards their peers. (Carter 32) Video games
are known as time wasters to parents, and worse, these games can corrupt the brain. Furthermore,
when playing violent video games kids can attach the game into their personal life. Some games can
teach kids wrong values. Playing violent video games can cause aggression, bullying, and depression
in kids.
Aggression is caused by playing violent video games. When aggression is built up in a kid is caused
by the difficulty of the game. When the difficulty of the game is increased so are the levels. Then, as
the levels increase, becoming angry, means that the game has the player. Always about wanting more
than what they already have. Next, when the kid can t reach the goal causing them to lose will make
the children try again and again causing their adrenaline to speed up due to the hyperactive role
causing aggressive behavior to the player. In addition, aggressive behavior can be caused by winning
too. This can affect kids who have an addiction to playing violent video games, because when kids
win they seem to try to show off to their opponent player.

Alfred Sisley s Influence On His Life
Alfred Sisley was an Impressionist painter that was born in Paris, France in 1839. He was an
influential painter of the 1870s all the way to the time of his death in 1899. Even though in his lifetime
his artwork was never admired, success of his paintings started one year after his death. Sisley was
known for his landscape paintings and animate portrayal of village streets and Parisian rivers.
However, his lack of progress outside the realm of landscape is a key factor for his shortage of
success. He made many friends within the artist community and encompassed himself in the world of
art. The arrival of the Franco Prussian War and Paris Commune forced many changed in his life. His
family also had a monumental impact on his childhood, that is visible in his artwork. Alfred Sisley had
many inspirations, deeply influenced the world around him, and created paintings of adoration,
especially three. Family was only one of his motivations, his childhood, other artists, and his
ambitions are what caused his artwork to be memorable and bewitching. Many of the landscapes he
depicted are from places of his childhood. Because of his British parents and nationality, Sisley often
went to London. His love for art was noticed when he saw John Constable s and Joseph Mallord
William Turner s paintings in London, England in 1861. He became discontented with his business
studies. He decided to return to Paris, fervent on becoming an artist. Whereas his father was a dealer

Principle of design is shown through the artist s use of various elements in his work of art. In this
painting balance, proportion, emphasis, variety, and unity are all exemplified. The balance is not to
even but leans more to the left. I believe it leans more to the left because there is more going on in that
area than on the right side. Proportion and emphasis is greatly shown through the goddess Venus and
her hunter Adonis because they stand out the most. Through the use of the brush, Titian represents
them as three dimensional. Titian painted Venus and Adonis because of the tale called Ovid s
Metamorphoses. Basically, the tale was about the goddess Venus getting struck by cupid and her
falling desperately in love with Adonis. Adonis, a hunter was leaving with his hunting dogs but the
goddess Venus does not want him leaving. She foresees the hunt will be dangerous for him and tries
very hard for Adonis not to leave. Titian grabbed the moment of the goddess Venus, giving of her
warning, and Adonis s death and basically painting the emotionally charged moment of Adonis s
departure for the hunt (Venice). The goddess Venus in this painting is portrayed as more of a frantic
women rather than a dignified feminine ideal. Also the role is sort of reversed and the goddess Venus
is portrayed more as masculine than feminine. Since she was struck by love so hard, she is depicted as

Bay Business Journal Staff Member, 2011, State of Florida.com, n.d.). As a result, the city of Tamp
Bay, Florida puts great stress on its Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, or better known as
CEMP. To better elaborate, the city of Tampa Bay incorporates approximately 170 square miles, with
land‐surface elevations ranging from sea‐level along the coast to approximately 55 feet above sea
level (City of Tampa | Office of Emergency Management, n.d.). Therefore, the city of Tampa Bay,

Gilded Age Urbanization Analysis
 Urbanization
The Gilded Age saw the United States shift from an agricultural to an urban, industrial society, as
millions of Americans flocked to cities in the post, Civil War time zone. Nearly 40 percent of
Americans lived in urbanized areas by 1900, as opposed to 20 percent in 1800s. Industrialization and
the rush to the cities led to the development of consumerism and a middle class. The rich had many
advantages to the new age.
 Immigration
In addition to this major shift from rural to urban areas, a new wave of immigration increased America
s population significantly, especially in major cities. Immigrants came from war torn regions of
southern and eastern Europe, such as Italy, Greece, Poland, Russia, Croatia. This new group of

Chandler s approach made business history more human and portrayed both the individual business
and the total economic system as much more complex and tenuous than had earlier studies.
The political debate over the currency tight money versus easy money had equally bewildered early
historians. Many Gilded Age farmers favored inflation to counteract the growing value of their debts
after wheat and cotton prices nose dived; some businessmen also liked easy money because low
interest rates enabled them to expand operations. This issue tended to pit Westerners and Southerners,
who needed cash for economic development, against the East, but it also had a powerful moral
component. Those who favored a currency based on some intrinsic value such as gold stood divided
from those who saw money as a flexible device for regulating the nation s economic health. In the
broadest sense, the currency debate highlighted the complexity of the national economy and the
growing difference of opinion over the role of government in it. In 1964 Irwin Unger elucidated the
subject in a Pulitzer Prize winning analysis, The Greenback

Los Angeles Music in Chincano Communities
In the 1970 s when Chicanos began to revolt and fight for what they believed in, there was a lot of
violence happening. The riot in which there was one resulting death, fifty injuries, and righty arrests
demonstrates all the chaos and rioting that the Chicano community was experiencing. For many years
Chicanos were considered the silent or forgotten majority. This situation was to change dramatically in
the mid and late 1960s as an independent movement developed in response to the specific oppression
of the Chicano people, which had a dynamic and revolutionary logic of its own . Throughout this time
there was also much progress occurring for the Chicanos. They had rose from 652,879 in 1960 to
1,228,594 in 1970, an increase of almost 90 percent , Chicanos were no longer becoming the minority
but they were now becoming the majority. There was progress for the Chicano in school and in the
work field. They were no longer ignored as they were in the past years. There were more Spanish
speaking teachers and more educational programs for the Chicanos. Although the Chicano community
had advanced and was starting to receive more fair treatment, there was still a lot that needed to be
done. There were no associations for Chicanos, and they were not really represented in congress
either. In the 1960 s the advancement was noticeable and it was good for the Chicano community, but
in the 1970 s the progress that had occurred had began to erode. Although progress in education had

William Blake Archetypes
Lamb or Tiger?
The Lamb and Tyger an analysis of the Archetypes
In the Lamb and Tyger by William Blake there is an interesting idea that about two types of people in
the world. William asks a good question in The Lamb Dost thou know who made thee it brings a
question that will be in both poems. In The Lamb William Blake asks the little lamb who made him
and he tells the little lamb that God made him. In the other poem William talks about the tiger and
asks him the same question but then goes on to ask why someone would create such a thing like the
tiger. William never tells us who made the tiger but it does make you think about what he was talking
about with their being two types of people in the world. William uses the word dare a lot in the poem
it makes you think that no one should have made the tiger in the first place. William Blake s
Archetypes are two different types of people in the world and whether you are a lamb or a tiger in the
world.
In the poem The Lamb by William Blake shows you all the good that the little lamb is and how it
brings joy to the world how innocent it is. The poem tells you why god would out this little lamb on
this earth, the little lamb is so childish and innocent. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are certain characteristics needed a little good a little bad to have unity in the world. Not
everyone can be innocent like the lamb and be almost child like and always follow the rules. Tigers
are needed because they are willing to challenge the rules and they have experience that the lambs don
t have that is needed. Those who are lambs can t change to a tiger and it s not possible to change to be
one or another a person is born one that person has certain characteristics that make them one or the
other. The two poems really define the lamb and the tiger and how they they have two very different
characteristics and how the tiger is not as wanted as the

Individual Liberty Versus Majoritarian Democracy in...
Individual Liberty Versus Majoritarian Democracy in Edward Larson s Summer For the Gods
The Scopes trial, writes Edward Larson, to most Americans embodies the timeless debate over science
and religion. (265) Written by historians, judges, and playwrights, the history of the Scopes trial has
caused Americans to perceive the relationship between science and religion in . . . simple terms: either
Darwin or the Bible was true. (265) The road to the trial began when Tennessee passed the Butler Act
in 1925 banning the teaching of evolution in secondary schools. It was only a matter of time before a
young biology teacher, John T. Scopes, prompted by the ACLU tested the law. Spectators and
newspapermen came from allover to witness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through exploring Bryan, Larson exposes the majoritarian democratic ideology underlying the veneer
of religion that has since characterized the trial
Next Larson explores the role the ACLU played in the Scopes Trial. They saw the Scopes trial as a
means to advance the rights of laborers and academic freedom using the First Amendment. Clarence
Darrow, when he heard that William Jennings Bryan would be prosecuting the trial, eagerly joined the
ACLU defense team. Darrow claimed that he was fighting for individual rights but he was also
obsessed in his determination to overturn the fundamentalist adherence to creationism. Larson delves
deep into the internal documents of the ACLU to reveal how difficult it was to control Darrow and
keep the case centered on a test of the law, not creationism. By revealing the ACLU s agenda, Larson
effectively shows that the Scopes trial was a battle between the concept of majority rule and individual
rights.
Larson suggests that the burgeoning fight for rights arose from a gradual ideological shift to
modernism. It was already under way before the Scopes trial even in rural areas. Bryan and his
fundamentalist backers had trouble finding expert witnesses that could discredit evolution. Tennessee
Governor Peay, even though he supported the Butler Act, founded Tennessee s public schools based
on modern education theory.(58) Even the fundamentalist spectators of Dayton shouted their approval
to allow scientific expert

Sympathizing with Shylock in William Shakespeare s The...
Sympathizing with Shylock in William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice In the Merchant of
Venice, Shakespeare creates an atmosphere throughout the play, which causes the audience to
sympathize with Shylock. Shakespeare uses key events, and dialogue to influence the audience. At the
time Shakespeare wrote his plays, and they were performed, the contemporary audience would have
mainly consisted of Christians. Jews were often persecuted, as they were the minority. The Christian
audience would have been quite arrogant, and Shakespeare would have had to pander to this audience,
to make the play appeal to them. He did this through Shylock. In Act 3 Scene 3, Shylock tells of how
he is abused by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A modern audience would be multi racial and therefore they would feel the same level of emotion, but
it would be different, as only an extremely small minority of the modern audience would have
mistreated Jews so consequently, they would almost be able to feel Shylock s emotions, as they can
relate to them. He gives a very powerful performance. His speech is then concluded with further
evoking of sympathy, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? stating that he
is not merely a religion, which he is seen as by the people who discriminate against him, he is a
human. This particular sentence has become very famous, and further evokes sympathy and shows
that Shylock is human with feelings and has a valid reason for wanting revenge. The play has two
plots; the flesh bond plot, and the marriage caskets plot. Bassanio wishes to offer marriage to Portia,
the Heiress of Belmont but cannot compete with her other suitors. Portia is the heiress to a great
fortune, but her father s will states that she can only marry the man who chooses the correct casket,
made of either Gold, Silver or lead. The potential husband must choose the casket containing her
portrait. In Belmont, after the Princes of Morocco and Aragon have both chosen the wrong

The Development Of Decision Making
The Development of Decision Making in Nursing Nursing is a profession that has traditionally
attracted individuals who have a desire to help others and have an interest in the health sciences
(Ruesink, 2012). In the complex world of health care, good intentions only go so far in terms of client
safety, quality of care, and achieving the best possible outcomes, and that is why critical thinking,
decision making, and evidence based practice are crucial to the nursing profession when acting on the
behalf of our clients (Fero, Witsberger, Wesmiller, Zullo, Hoffman, 2009; Ruesink, 2012; Thompson,
Aitken, Doran, Dowding, 2013). In this paper I will discuss and explore three decision making models
that support nursing decision making, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC), defines Clinical decision making as:
A complex and dynamic process, occurring within a larger context and drawing from various
dimensions of knowledge, in which nurses collect and organize information in order to form
conclusions and choose actions, with the intent of creating the best outcomes for clients (2014, slide
19). The nursing profession demands a high standard of quality and safety, compelling nurses to act
professionally, be accountable for their own actions, and embrace their Professional Standards
(CRNBC, 2013). The CRNBC Professional Standards requires nurses to know where to access
information to support their knowledge to deliver evidence based, competent nursing care, as well as
use decision making tools to guide their assessments, diagnoses, and treatments (2013). For nurses to
make clinical decisions that enhance a client s health, promote realistic solutions, and reduce potential
risks, decision making and critical thinking must happen in sync (Fero et al., 2009; Standing, 2005).
To support critical thinking in nursing practice, and help novice nurses compensate for the lack of
clinical experience, decision making models have been constructed to help navigate the multi
dimensional complexities of the

With an aging population in Canada it is becoming more apparent that housing is quickly becoming a major area of concern. Should seniors stay in their own homes or more to residential care setting which can provide 24 hour care? This is a difficult decision not only for the older individual, but also for their family, friends and support system. In this review I will take a look at some of the research done regarding this issue. The effect of one s environment seems to have a significant impact on how well an individual does in various setting whether it be their own homes or in institutional setting. A great deal of research has taken place to understand the effect of one s environment on older patients with dementia or Alzheimers and the importance of personal adjustment to various types of institutional or home settings. How patients feel about the environment they are in is relevant and directly related to how the patients progress within their diagnoses and their ability to maintain cognitive function. (Chuck, Milke, Beck, 2005, p. 330) The research done to date on the impact of one s environment on how well they adjust to residential settings for dementia and Alzheimer s patients, seems to indicate that there definitely exists a strong correlation between the individual and their ability to adapt to the residential setting. • 4. Historical Epidemiological Study Trends On The Causal... SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF HISTORICAL EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY TRENDS IN ESTABLISHING THE CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HPV AND CERVICAL CANCER: For centuries, the etiology of cancer of the cervix remained unknown and there were several attempts by past scientists to establish the cause of cervical cancer without much success. However, the earliest breakthroughs came in the 1930s while Dr Richard Shope of the Rockefeller University was working on wild rabbits that had developed horn , which upon further analysis, was caused by a virus that could be transmitted. This discovery played a crucial part in the subsequent studies by Dr Zur Hausen (Cummings 2011). According to Moghissi and Mack (1968), one of the earliest epidemiological studies to probe into the relationship between sexual intercourse and cervical cancer involved prostitutes in a prison in the U.S whose exceptional social peculiarities bordered on sexual intercourse with multiple partners. This epidemiological study concluded by identifying early exposure to coitus and multiple sexual partners as the primary etiologic bases for the development of cancer of the cervix. In the classic research by Gagnon involving the study of 13,000 Canadian Nuns, he found no single case of cervical cancer (cited in Fenoglio 1982). This was a significant finding in that it concretized the association between sexual exposure and cancer of the cervix thereby paving the way for further descriptive studies to investigate the relationship. ... This theme is presented in many ways including how the children don t have any social time. These kids only want to be with the Veldt and never with their parents or peers. The madness part of the theme comes in at the end of the story when the kids obsession controls their actions. Also, there are many different themes but i do believe that this is a major and important theme. This proves that The Veldt shows that obsession can turn into madness. One reason that The Veldt shows obsession and madness is because of the way the kids only spend time in the Veldt. Therefore, the kids need more family time. For the most part, the majority of people respect those who are different either in color, race, and/or heritage; however, there are those few that hold bigoted views towards people who are different than they are. The movie American History X by Tony Kaye displays an example of people who hold bigoted views. Derek, a Neo Nazi leader, must contend with his actions relating to his past racist views and actions. Derek realized that hatred towards people did not help him, his family, or the situation at hand. Instead of being negative and destructive, why not be positive. Hurting people and destroying property does not solve problems, but only makes them worse by causing more resentment and tension between people (Theriou). Nothing good has ever come out of a situation where one person has been the victim of a crime or abuse. Good things come out of situations where people show hospitality, good will, and compassion; not hatred. It is made very clear that Derek and Danny have no affiliations with the Ku Klux Klan. Derek calls the KKK a bunch of disorganized rednecks that very inanely run around with sheets on their heads. Instead they are part of a Neo Nazi group in Southern California. In America today there are estimated to be about 200,000 members 602 3 associated with white power groups (included in these estimates are supporters and hard core members plus their families) (Suall). It upsets me how much cruelty there is around us, especially with people who want to love others of the same gender as them. Honestly if someone is a part of the LGBT community it is perfectly fine in my opinion. Darkness is a powerful image that authors use to their advantage in building up the scene and mood within their writing. Arthur Miller is no exception. He uses the contrast of dark and light to build up suspense and mood. He is also able to foreshadow the upcoming events with the use of night. To start, the play opens up with the scene of Paris accusing Abigail of being in the woods late in the night, [ find quote] This use of darkness symbolizes the sinister act of witchcraft. The effect of these actions results in Betty lying in bed, sick. She supposedly cannot move and is despondent. She s been like this since midnight, Then why can she not move herself since midnight? (pg.10) It s almost as if the bleeding darkness is also at fault for Betty s illness, that it isn t just witchcraft that ails her. Darkness is further diminished when the image of light comes to make an appearance. In the play, light is seen as something holy. Hale equates light to God s holiness and sees it as a way to purify Tituba, ... open yourself and let God s holy light shine on you. (pg.45) In addition, the dark also is a foreshadowing element. Phillips also mentions that Frederick Douglass originates from a state (Maryland) where the conditions for a slave were less harsh than the other states in the Deep South. Where one can only imagine the horrors that surrounded the slaves in those states. Wendell Phillips also praises his book and is also confident that whoever reads his book will be persuaded towards the cause of anti slavery and that since Frederick Douglass is a marvelous and persuasive speaker, his book will also consist of the same elements. Finally, he mentions to his friend about how he wrote his own name and his masters names clearly in his narrative, making it dangerous upon himself. Phillips also relates this choice towards the founding fathers when they wrote their names on the Declaration of Independence. Here we can admire Frederick Douglass s bravery and that he is not scared to spread the truth about the reality of slavery that many do not know. • 20. Characters In The Movie Groundhog Day Vs. Happy Death Day Groundhog Day vs. Happy Death Day Groundhog Day is a 1993 movie starring Bill Murray. It is a Drama/Romance directed by Harold Ramis rated PG. Groundhog Day was so popular it was even made into a musical in 2016 composed by Tim Minchin. Happy Death Day, however, is a 2017 mystery/thriller. It is rated PG 13 and is directed by Christopher B. Landon. Although Happy Death Day is assumed to be just a scary version of Groundhog Day, these two movies have more differences and similarities in characters, situations, and setting than people might think. The main character of both movies begin the storyline as self centered people. They are rude and have no concern for the people around them. The main character from Happy Death Day, Tree Gelbman is a blonde sorority sister in college. In the beginning of the movie, Tree wakes up, hungover, after getting drunk from a party the previous night which makes her late to a lecture. This indicates that she is irresponsible and what most people consider to be the average partying college student. The main character in Groundhog Day, Phil Connors, is a weatherman who thinks he s above everyone else. In the movie this character uses sarcasm, irony, and does his best to ignore everyone and live a life of solitude. One thing these two characters have in common is falling for the people that they thought they never would in the beginning. Tree falls for Carter Davis, the college student whose dorm she woke up in after the party. Phil Connors falls in love with Rita Hanson, a news producer who works in the same studio as him. These Two characters are stuck in incredibly similar situations with very slight differences. They are both trapped in a time loop that shows some sort of relevance in their lives and they have to do figure out what they need do in order to move on to the next day. In the beginning they simply think it s deja vu, but after they realize they will always wake up to the same day, even if they die, they begin to enjoy immortality and use it to their advantage. In her time loop, Tree Gelbman wakes up to the sound of university bells in another college student s (Carter Davis s) dorm room after a party. She walks back to her sorority house, ... • 25. The Father Of String Quartets Known primarily as the father of string quartets , Joseph Haydn played an extremely important role in the development of the string quartet. When the composer first arrived on the scene, the usual name given to a string quartet composition was actually considered a divertimento . This title was a general term to describe any one on a part type instrumental music that was compatible with a variety of different music scorings, styles and character. It wasn t until about 1780 that modern titles/terms such as the quartet and quintet become common for serious chamber music in the now standard scoring. (Eisen, Grove, String Quartet ) This change of terminology that happens during Haydn s career does not imply that there was nothing serious being performed on strings prior to terminology change. In fact, examples of serious works can be found during Haydn s op.9 (1769 70) early divertimentos, with a cello playing the bass line. This serious work of Haydn also incorporated a new idea within the world of string quartets, a four movement scheme. Throughout the four movements the textures were varied, having moments of a possible elaborated homophonic trio sonata style , paired with a more contrapuntal polyphonic style. Another characteristic that encouraged stylistic growth were the various fugal moments being introduced throughout string quartet music during this time. The language used by the Minoans is referred to as Linear A, the language is said to have been the foundation for later Greek language. The Mycenaeans broadened the Linear A language to make it their own, it is known as Linear B. The Minoans were thought to be a peaceful society, conversely, the Mycenaeans were geared most toward warfare. Voting Rights Arguments The key arguments for returning voting rights to felons and passing the Democracy Restoration Act (DRA) include advancing democracy, protecting public safety, and eliminating the remnants of Jim Crow. The DRA would return the right to vote to felons, who are out of jail and living in communities throughout the United States. This would give 4.3 million more Americans the right to vote. Supporters of the DRA argue that it advances democracy adding additional voters and maintains the American principle of inclusion. They also argue that most European countries either allow voting rights to prisoners or restore them once the prisoners are reincorporated into society. Proponents of the DRA also contend that it further protects public safety by giving felons an incentive to avoid committing future crimes. Bringing felons into the political fold rather than excluding them as political outsiders helps to deter them from committing crimes. They also argue that the DRA is a key part of the re incorporation process into society for felons and allows for some hope that continuing to live a crime free life will be rewarded. The DRA also helps to eliminate some disenfranchisement suffered by the African American community since the days of slavery and Jim Crow. Gilded Age Urbanization Analysis  Urbanization The Gilded Age saw the United States shift from an agricultural to an urban, industrial society, as millions of Americans flocked to cities in the post, Civil War time zone. Industrialization and the rush to the cities led to the development of consumerism and a middle class. The rich had many advantages to the new age.  Immigration In addition to this major shift from rural to urban areas, a new wave of immigration increased America s population significantly, especially in major cities. Chandler s approach made business history more human and portrayed both the individual business and the total economic system as much more complex and tenuous than had earlier studies. The political debate over the currency tight money versus easy money had equally bewildered early historians. Many Gilded Age farmers favored inflation to counteract the growing value of their debts after wheat and cotton prices nose dived; some businessmen also liked easy money because low interest rates enabled them to expand operations. This issue tended to pit Westerners and Southerners, who needed cash for economic development, against the East, but it also had a powerful moral component. Those who favored a currency based on some intrinsic value such as gold stood divided from those who saw money as a flexible device for regulating the nation s economic health. In the broadest sense, the currency debate highlighted the complexity of the national economy and the growing difference of opinion over the role of government in it. • 45. Los Angeles Music in Chincano Communities In the 1970 s when Chicanos began to revolt and fight for what they believed in, there was a lot of violence happening. The riot in which there was one resulting death, fifty injuries, and righty arrests demonstrates all the chaos and rioting that the Chicano community was experiencing. For many years Chicanos were considered the silent or forgotten majority. This situation was to change dramatically in the mid and late 1960s as an independent movement developed in response to the specific oppression of the Chicano people, which had a dynamic and revolutionary logic of its own . Throughout this time there was also much progress occurring for the Chicanos. They had rose from 652,879 in 1960 to 1,228,594 in 1970, an increase of almost 90 percent , Chicanos were no longer becoming the minority but they were now becoming the majority. There was progress for the Chicano in school and in the work field. They were no longer ignored as they were in the past years. There were more Spanish speaking teachers and more educational programs for the Chicanos. Although the Chicano community had advanced and was starting to receive more fair treatment, there was still a lot that needed to be done. There were no associations for Chicanos, and they were not really represented in congress either. In the 1960 s the advancement was noticeable and it was good for the Chicano community, but in the 1970 s the progress that had occurred had began to erode. Individual Liberty Versus Majoritarian Democracy in Edward Larson s Summer For the Gods The Scopes trial, writes Edward Larson, to most Americans embodies the timeless debate over science and religion. (265) Written by historians, judges, and playwrights, the history of the Scopes trial has caused Americans to perceive the relationship between science and religion in . . . simple terms: either Darwin or the Bible was true. (265) The road to the trial began when Tennessee passed the Butler Act in 1925 banning the teaching of evolution in secondary schools. It was only a matter of time before a young biology teacher, John T. Scopes, prompted by the ACLU tested the law. Spectators and newspapermen came from allover to witness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through exploring Bryan, Larson exposes the majoritarian democratic ideology underlying the veneer of religion that has since characterized the trial Next Larson explores the role the ACLU played in the Scopes Trial. They saw the Scopes trial as a means to advance the rights of laborers and academic freedom using the First Amendment. Clarence Darrow, when he heard that William Jennings Bryan would be prosecuting the trial, eagerly joined the ACLU defense team. Darrow claimed that he was fighting for individual rights but he was also obsessed in his determination to overturn the fundamentalist adherence to creationism. Larson delves deep into the internal documents of the ACLU to reveal how difficult it was to control Darrow and keep the case centered on a test of the law, not creationism. By revealing the ACLU s agenda, Larson effectively shows that the Scopes trial was a battle between the concept of majority rule and individual rights. Larson suggests that the burgeoning fight for rights arose from a gradual ideological shift to modernism. It was already under way before the Scopes trial even in rural areas. Bryan and his fundamentalist backers had trouble finding expert witnesses that could discredit evolution. Tennessee Governor Peay, even though he supported the Butler Act, founded Tennessee s public schools based on modern education theory.(58) Even the fundamentalist spectators of Dayton shouted their approval to allow scientific expert ... Sympathizing with Shylock in William Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice In the Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare creates an atmosphere throughout the play, which causes the audience to sympathize with Shylock. Shakespeare uses key events, and dialogue to influence the audience. At the time Shakespeare wrote his plays, and they were performed, the contemporary audience would have mainly consisted of Christians. Jews were often persecuted, as they were the minority. The Christian audience would have been quite arrogant, and Shakespeare would have had to pander to this audience, to make the play appeal to them. He did this through Shylock. In Act 3 Scene 3, Shylock tells of how he is abused by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A modern audience would be multi racial and therefore they would feel the same level of emotion, but it would be different, as only an extremely small minority of the modern audience would have mistreated Jews so consequently, they would almost be able to feel Shylock s emotions, as they can relate to them. He gives a very powerful performance. His speech is then concluded with further evoking of sympathy, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? stating that he is not merely a religion, which he is seen as by the people who discriminate against him, he is a human. This particular sentence has become very famous, and further evokes sympathy and shows that Shylock is human with feelings and has a valid reason for wanting revenge. The play has two plots; the flesh bond plot, and the marriage caskets plot. Bassanio wishes to offer marriage to Portia, the Heiress of Belmont but cannot compete with her other suitors. Portia is the heiress to a great fortune, but her father s will states that she can only marry the man who chooses the correct casket, made of either Gold, Silver or lead. • 49. The Development Of Decision Making The Development of Decision Making in Nursing Nursing is a profession that has traditionally attracted individuals who have a desire to help others and have an interest in the health sciences (Ruesink, 2012). In the complex world of health care, good intentions only go so far in terms of client safety, quality of care, and achieving the best possible outcomes, and that is why critical thinking, decision making, and evidence based practice are crucial to the nursing profession when acting on the behalf of our clients (Fero, Witsberger, Wesmiller, Zullo, Hoffman, 2009; Ruesink, 2012; Thompson, Aitken, Doran, Dowding, 2013). The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC), defines Clinical decision making as: A complex and dynamic process, occurring within a larger context and drawing from various dimensions of knowledge, in which nurses collect and organize information in order to form conclusions and choose actions, with the intent of creating the best outcomes for clients (2014, slide 19). The nursing profession demands a high standard of quality and safety, compelling nurses to act professionally, be accountable for their own actions, and embrace their Professional Standards (CRNBC, 2013). The CRNBC Professional Standards requires nurses to know where to access information to support their knowledge to deliver evidence based, competent nursing care, as well as use decision making tools to guide their assessments, diagnoses, and treatments (2013). For nurses to make clinical decisions that enhance a client s health, promote realistic solutions, and reduce potential risks, decision making and critical thinking must happen in sync (Fero et al., 2009; Standing, 2005). To support critical thinking in nursing practice, and help novice nurses compensate for the lack of clinical experience, decision making models have been constructed to help navigate the multi dimensional complexities of the ...
