Relics Of Buddhism And Buddhism
Relics are thought to be present in Buddhism since the 5th Century B.C.E, when the original Buddha,
Siddhartha Gautama, was said to have lived, and Buddhism itself was a new religion. They continue
today as sacred objects of worship. Relics that are as old as Buddhism itself are said to exist and still
be worshipped. Although the idea of relics may seem contradictory to many of Buddhist beliefs, they
actually do resonate with many ideals of Buddhist teachings and practices. To see whether relics pose
a contradiction between doctrine and practice, we first need to see exactly what relics in Buddhism
are. The word relic itself has many meanings including something left behind , the body or bodily
frame , constituent element or essential ingredient and many more interpretations. In Buddhism, relics
are body parts and/or any physical remains of a highly regarded Buddha or monk. They are held in
stupas, constructed dome shaped structures, associated with Buddhas or other powerful beings. Relics
are worshiped just as sacred objects and other things in a temple would be. A large appeal of relics is
that they are portable and are an easy way to closer with the Buddha itself. When relics are present the
Buddha is present, quoted Schopen, describing just how connected relics are believed to be to these
powerful beings. Relics are, therefore, an important aspect of worship and relation to the Buddha in
this religion. How then could they be contradictory to the doctrine of

The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism
Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy transformations
in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration and its sub activtys like
glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce energy in the form of ATP and a
byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced . Although the cell is not 100% efficient
thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in the cell each time when energy is
produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured directly by the amount of heat lost from
the body in a certain period of time. Another way an organisms metabolic rate can be measured is
indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is consumed in a given period of time. In the
experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish
(ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of counting the number of operculum beats
when three different goldfish where submerged in various temperatures. What was found is that the
metabolic rate increased when the temperature increased and the metabolic rate decreased as
temperature dropped.
Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy
production. Some of these chemical reactions involve cellular respiration by which is the series of
metabolic process by which living cells produce energy through the oxidation of organic

The Invention of Television
When you ask the question who invented television, you may get a few different answers!
Television was not invented by a single inventor, instead many people working together and alone
over the years, contributed to the evolution of television. * In Sorbonne, France1922, Edwin Belin, an
Englishman, who held the patent for the transmission of photographs by wire as well as fiber optics
and radar, demonstrated a mechanical scanning device that was an early precursor to modern
television. * John Logie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I choose to write about the television invention because arguing that television is educational and
entertaining has been overused. The most important quality of television has been overlooked, the
ability to change a person s thinking strategy. To categorize everything on television into either Good
or Bad is wrong. To inspire hope into the viewer is a gift. The ability to help others visualize a positive
concept or idea is a blessing.
I believes that the entertainment television has a big and clear effect on real world health by the
various programs which offers a wide range of knowledge and information in this sector, for example
Dr. Oz Show, and its impact on viewers perceptions of issues such as the quality of managed care, the
rights of patients under current law, whether insurance companies are providing sufficient coverage,
and end of life decisions. Related work suggests, too, that TV viewers may well mix what they see on
news and entertainment together
In conclusion, the television is a great technological achievement that has the characteristics of a
person, some shows are funny, powerful and inspiring; others are just not worth watching. Although
television has a bad reputation, it really is a wonderful tool, bringing into our living room a whole
other world.

Future Of Fdi During The Oil And Gas Sector Essay
Future of FDI in Canada in oil and gas sector
Even though Canadian government are showing protective approach presently because of several
factors that have affected the land, and has taken the country s wealth to other country. But some
believe that because of the foreign investment the wealth of the country has increased, and this has
contributed to the overall development of the Canada and the world. Today, there are so much
investment done and this looks like it is going to increase in future, and this has showed sign of
rejection from the country s environmentalists because it is taking away the natural resources and
polluting the environment. Even though the nation has been benefited, there is contrary feeling
towards it. On the other hand, government are taking steps to make sure that too much power or all
assets are not handled by foreign companies. But some economists believe the rules and regulations of
the government in the past has benefited and supported foreign firms rather than domestic firms,
because they were trying to cut down the expenses and increase profit in the form of tax. So, the Gray
report puts forward the following policy which suggest Canadians to posses high command over the
business and environment, increase the profit and reduce the harm of foreign direct investment, and to
hold and expand Canadian control where there is need and can be controlled. The problem that
worries the government in the past was foreign investors take domestic

Jim Crow Racism
This essay will argue that white people were violently racist towards African Americans in the south
because the threat of them succeeding economically, educationally, and socially created competition
for things that whites felt they were entitled to. Jim Crow laws were created as a way to control the
success of African Americans and prevent them from reaching their full potential in society. Evidence
of their actions proves this in the laws they made, the ways they treated them, and the words said
about them. Whites felt entitled to these things because they viewed themselves as supreme .
The threat of African Americans succeeding economically motivated white southerners to act out. For
three centuries, African Americans did all of the hard work for white farmers, so they were ahead of
the farming game. They had outstanding knowledge of how to grow crops and the best way to do it.
Whites felt entitled to being superior, so they wanted to eliminate competition for successful farmers.
In Burke County, Georgia, an African American farmer reported that his acreage of land was reduced
by the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) committee so that his white
neighbor could acquire more land. These acts of blatant racism were nearly impossible to fight back
on, because whites had such a tight grip on what African Americans could do. Laws were made that
told African Americans what they could do, and most importantly, what they could not do.

Breast Cancer And Cancer Awareness Essay
Breast Cancer Advertisements
1) Criteria for Comparison Cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast is known as breast cancer.
Breast cancer is a potentially deadly disease that is one of the major causes of cancer related deaths
among women. One woman in fourteen will contract breast cancer during her lifetime and one in
twenty one will die of it (Fallowfield, Clark 1991). The national breast cancer awareness is vastly
known throughout the entire month of October in the United States. The goal of the campaign is to
bring attention to breast cancer throughout the entire month, help women get educated, and raise
awareness. The awareness campaigns offers the perfect opportunity to briefly review what breast
awareness means, and how to promote it in primary care (Edwards, 2008). This paper will focus on
two advertisement about breast cancer awareness, the effectiveness of two different advertisement are
used to persuade their targeted audiences, and how differently they are being used to promote breast
cancer awareness. The first ad Obsessed with Breasts is a public awareness campaign print ad that was
launched in 2000, by The Breast Cancer Fund which is an eight year old non profit group based in San
Francisco in response to the public health crisis of breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Fund also
identifies and advocates for elimination of the environmental and other preventable causes of the
disease (Breast Cancer Fund, 2014). The advertisements were placed in bus

Essay On Changing The Driving Age To 18

because its too much happening in these days and times . Eighteen year old will be more responsible ,

The Use Of Anticoagulant Therapy And Its Effects On The...
Introduction
Epistaxis is defined as the occurrence of haemorrhage from the nose, which is relatively common and
does not always need professional medical attention. However, prolonged or repeated events of
nosebleeds, also known as recurrent idiopathic epistaxis may indicate certain bleeding disorders or
potential adverse effects from the use of anticoagulant therapy. Warfarin (Coumadin) is a common
anticoagulant that affects clotting factors that are produced in the liver. It is often administered after an
myocardial infarction in order to prevent thrombosis and thromboemobolism which could lead to the
development of a stroke, most of which are ischemic in origin. Despite its effectiveness, warfarin has

His laboratory tests showed an abnormal coagulation profile, which is perhaps attributed to his daily
medication regime. Prothrombin time(PT) was significantly prolonged, whereas partial
thromoboplastin time(PTT) was only mildly prolonged. The tests also revealed a lower than normal
haematocrit, that being a direct result of prolonged bleeding. Also, his stool sample was tested positive
for blood.
Homeostasis of Hemostasis
Blood coagulation is the process whereby a blood clot (thrombus) is formed. The formation of a
thrombus represents the second stage of hemostasis, following vasoconstriction and platelet
aggregation at the site of injury. The clotting process is very complex and its role is to maintain
vascular integrity and to induce rapid clot formation after a vascular injury. It is vital to be able to
regulate the production of thrombin, in order to prevent thrombosis, as well as maintaining normal
blood circulation.
As shown by figure 1, the coagulation cascade is a protein based system which is initiated through the
activation of two separate pathways designated extrinsic and intrinsic. These two pathways proceed
through the common pathway of coagulation until fibrin is formed. The extrinsic pathway is generally
the first pathway to be activated, and it is stimulated by tissue factor thromboplastin coming into direct
contact with factor VII. Factor VII is

The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
Since its inception in 1982 the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, very much like its primary
architect Pierre Trudeau, has been one of the most celebrated yet controversial elements of Canadian
politics and governance. Revealing how this dynamic emerged requires a nuanced understanding of
the motivation behind the Charter and the techniques it employed to succeed. The Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms, like the entire patriation process, was motivated by and mobilized support
through, constitutionally enshrining democratic core values, multiculturalism and a sense of
nationalism. However, it should not be seen as merely a symbolic gesture on the part of Britain and
Canada or merely a strengthening of core values. Instead it was a fundamental reinvention of
Canadian federalism that shifted power away from the provinces to the federal government and from
the Parliament to the courts. This was accomplished by incentivizing provincial acceptance,
developing common interests, and, as a result, formalizing a national identity where the protection and
expansion of core values was encouraged as fundamental. This dynamic allowed the reinvention to, by
and large, succeed. An understanding of the provisions and effects of the Charter and how it ultimately
succeed as a re invention of the Canadian Government requires knowledge of the patriation process.
Before 1982, the formal power to amend the Canadian Constitution was held by the British
Parliament. This was seen

Medical Marijuana Should Be Legal
The term medical marijuana refers to the using the whole unprocessed marijuana plant or its basic
extracts to treat a disease or symptom. But how can you really help? Medical marijuana may help stop
the growth of blood vessels that feed cancerous tumors. And what I am currently researching is how
medical marijuana can help treat illnesses. For medical marijuana we basically use THC and CBD
both or cannabinoids that are in the marijuana plant. For THC it increases appetite and reduces nausea.
THC me also decrease pain inflammation and muscle control problems. Also a cannabinoid known as
CBD may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation controlling seizures. But overall marijuana isn
t just a fun thing to use it is something more special it s something that people with medical issues can
use to help treat their illness. Many countries have approved a mouth spray containing THC and CBD
both us particles that are in the marijuana plant. Which is also used in medical marijuana research. The
FDA still have not approved the medical marijuana plant which we use to help treat illnesses. Also the
FDA uses THC and CBD which is in the marijuana plant. THC increases appetite and reduces nausea.
The FDA approved THC based medications are used for these purposes. THC may also decrease pain,
inflammation (swelling and redness), and muscle control problems. Of course there s always a

exactly the same strengths and weaknesses as proximal relationships. Whether two people are going to
have fulfilling relationship does not only depend on their geographical closeness. What matters is
quality, not quantity. According to one expert on LDRs, the majority of studies that have been done

the most important is the constant feeling of strong commitment, warmth and mutual emotional

Why Should Music Be Censored
In this day and age almost everything has to be censored in one way or another. It has gotten to the
point that music even has be censored on the radio because its use of profanity. In my opinion this is
some type of infringement on our freedom of speech. The definition of freedom is the power or right
to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. If this is to be held as true, then why
ban books, songs, and even movies because someone may get offended by either the words or actions
displayed in them? There is no need for censorship, but maybe fear of what is to be said or done is the
real restriction.

Sylvia Plath Superego In The Bell Jar
When looked at through a Freudian lens, The Bell Jar is a love letter from Sylvia Plath to the idea of
suicide. Through her character Esther, Plath depicts the path that leads to suicide: the inner turmoil
that causes the desire for a release; the ideation of suicide as a solution; and finally, the attempt. Esther
s desire to die spawned from being unable to reconcile her id and her superego. Her id was her desire
to adventure, to make something special of her life; her superego, the part of her that understood her
place in society at the time, that she was expected to be a wife and mother and stay home. Esther s
inability to choose between a career and a family caused dissonance in her mind that she imagined

Ophelia would not be bound by the societal restrictions of women; she could talk freely to some
extent. However, even in insanity she is not free. She still has no freedom of choice. Ophelia is
eventually regarded as irrational, and her words are not taken seriously and are taken to be simply mad
talk. Whereas Hamlet has the power to change his fate, Ophelia does not, and her death is considered
to be tragic because the only escape she sees from her oppression is madness and death. Her limited
options in a male controlled society and her realization of those limitations are what make Ophelia s
death the true tragedy of Hamlet. As Annette Wyandotte observes in one of her essays, One could
argue that Ophelia s death is the true tragedy of Hamlet. Without critiques, the audience might think
that Hamlet s faith and actions are the main tragic elements of the play, but Ophelia has much of a
bigger role than simply her life and love

Instrumental And Instrumental Aggression
Aggression is distinguished in two forms, affective aggression and instrumental aggression. Affective
aggression is aggression that is caused by emotions such as anger and frustration whereas instrumental
aggression is aggression that is used as a means to some other goal. In the below, I will discuss both
using the example of a child bullying another as instrumental aggression and a recent fatal stabbing of
a young girl as both instrumental and affective aggression. Bullying is determined to be instrumental
aggression because there is generally another goal that is being served for the individual doing the
bullying. Whether we use the example of a young child bullying on the playground or an older
individual being cyberbullied there is a goal attached to their actions. That goal could come in the
form of lunch money or to make sure the bullied child is picked last for a schoolyard game or in the
instance of cyberbullying it could be purely to de individualize and humiliate raising the bully s own
self esteem and self worth. There could be a multitude of reasons and situational forces that cause an
individual to bully another. It is possible that the bully is in desperate need to be accepted by their
peers and feels that devaluing another individual raises their own worth. It could possibly be jealous of
the person being bullied. Whether it is of social or economic status, their romantic status or just that
person has something the bully cannot obtain.

Alicia Keys Song
This Girl is on Fire Alicia Keys
Oh, we got our feet on the ground and we re burning it down. Oh, got our head in the clouds and we
are not coming down. THIS GIRL IS ON FIRE! So you must be thinking how does song lyrics from
an amazing Alicia Keys song have to do anything about my timeline about something that has deeply
impacted me. Well just like the title of the song says, this girl (aka me) was actually on fire.
Everything that led up to that moment was ordinary, but afterwards my life turned upside down, and
everything that I had ever believed changed. Now you must be thinking, when I saw her in class she
seemed to be totally fine no scars or anything just some very loud cheerful girl that you might have to

All I will say is that my dress and my right foot were on fire, and I was surrounded by fire making it
impossible for me to STOP DROP AND ROLL (that so many adults have suggested when I told them
this story). I can tell you that being on fire is very surreal. At least for me it was. It was the longest 60
seconds of my life. I thought I was going to die. Even after the 2 hours of me screaming like a maniac
in the ambulance as I was taken to the emergency room, and was comfortably sitting in a bed with my
foot up in bandages my first thought was why did this happen to me? I only heard things like this
happening to random people on news channels. That was the day when I realized that I wasn t
invincible (no I wasn t the narcissistic little girl). I just realized that anything can happen to anyone,
and you should always be cautious and prepare yourself for anything because you aren t invincible
and neither is the President of the United States. I became more sympathetic for people that suddenly

Essay On Feature Extraction
Feature plays a very important role in the area of image processing. Different feature extraction
techniques are applied on different types of images to get features that will be useful in classifying and
recognition of images. Features describes the important information of images that helps to classify
images correctly and remarkably reduce the dimension of the images. In pattern recognition and image
processing, feature extraction is a special form of dimensionality reduction. The main goal of feature
extraction is to obtain the most relevant information from the original data and represent that
information in a lower dimensional space. Effective feature extraction from various intensity or color

The histogram gives the feature vector for entire window. Example of LBP feature extraction is given
in the Figure 2.1
Figure 2.1: Finding decimal value for central pixel using LBP
LBP has some limitations that reduces its application fields. LBP is not rotation invariant and the size
of the features increases exponentially with the number of neighbors which leads to an increase of
computational complexity in terms of time and space.
2.2.1 Noise Adaptive Binary Pattern (NABP)
Noise adaptive binary pattern [12] is a modification of local binary pattern. Though LPB is powerful
in extraction local features, it has a lack of discriminative power and sensitive to noise. LBP may
produce same pattern for big difference and same difference of the central pixel with neighboring
pixel. LBP is also affected by noise. So, a modification is proposed on LBP to face fluctuation of
intensity and noise in image. They proposed a threshold (square root of central pixel + central pixel).
If neighboring pixel value is greater than the pixel then the pattern value is 1 otherwise 0. Figure 2.2
illustrates calculation of NABP.

Dysfunctional College Campuses
College campuses function as a collective organization, meaning that all of the offices and
departments play an integral role in making the college experience great. The departments need to
work together to guide students in matters such as financial aid, class registration, student accounts,
and so many more. For example, if a new student were to contact the CONNECTIONs Orientation
office and ask about their housing, the department secretary should either know how to answer the
question, or know who to connect the student with. The current issue that we are finding on campus is
that offices aren t working together. Students are being directed to a different office, each time being
told that the answer will be at the following office, and these types of experiences can make or break
whether a student wants to come back to Kutztown University. Organizational structure and
connectedness are necessary to avoid a dysfunctional campus environment. The issue does not only

Hysteria In Hemingway s Big Two-Hearted River
In her discussion of shell shock, Elaine Showalter writes, Men were silenced and immobilized and
forced, like women, to express their conflicts through the body. Placed in intolerable circumstances of
stress, and expected to react with unnatural courage, thousands of soldiers reacted instead with
symptoms of hysteria (Showalter 171). In Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River: Part I, Nick Adams
embodies this symptom of hysteria. His actions and interactions with his belongings and surroundings
showcase different dimensions of his recollection of the intolerable circumstances which he faced in
the Great War and the ways in which he seeks to choke his thoughts of the experience. Nick seeks

before, but the grasshoppers were all black now. He wondered how long they would stay that way
(Hemingway 136). Even though they survived, these grasshoppers are scarred. The color black is
notable here in its representation of death while also being connected with a living insect. Perhaps
realizing the similarity between his own condition and that of the grasshopper, Nick wishes it well and
says, Go on, hopper,... Fly away somewhere (Hemingway 136). This encouragement and interaction
gives Nick hope that he can fly away from the struggles of his own life through camping and fishing,

optimism is interrupted by the return of the heavy pack to his back. Nick stood up. He leaned his back

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Beowulf
The strengths of heroes in epic poems has been written on a countless amount of times. Why? Because
the heroes strengths are plainly displayed in the literature and the weaknesses are not. However, the
weaknesses can be found where the heroes turn to for strength. In the Epic of Beowulf, the journey
begins with the terrorization of the Mead Hall by an awful monster named Grendel. Beowulf comes in
and saves the day by killing Grendel and he receives riches and fame for doing so. Then, stricken with
grief, Grendel s mother comes to the mead hall to avenge the death of her son. Beowulf goes and
fights Grendel s mother in her home in the swamp and manages to kill her with a sword forged by
giants. After this battle, he is more beloved than the one before and is endlessness praised and
rewarded. Then, fifty years later, Beowulf is the king of Geat and a thief angers the dragon. Beowulf
then decides to kill the dragon himself. He manages to kill the dragon with the help of a Geat named
Wiglaf, but loses his life in the process. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, our hero has a rough beginning with
actions that resemble a villain more than a hero. Then the God s create Enkidu to tame Gilgamesh.
Gilgamesh and Enkidu become best friends after their first tumultuous meeting and go on many
adventures together. After one adventure, Gilgamesh and Enkidu return and Gilgamesh is

Automotive Aftermarket Analysis
Automotive Aftermarket Analysis
Industry Definition
The automotive aftermarket is a large contributor to the U.S. economy employing nearly 4.6 million
people. New replacement automotive parts such as alternators, brakes, lights, bumpers, fenders, and so
on, are parts referred to as aftermarket or functionally equivalent parts when made by a company other
than the original car manufacturer (Ford, Chrysler, Chevrolet, and others). This industry sells
automotive parts and other products used to maintain or repair light and heavy duty vehicles. Products
are sold both to consumers who repair or accessorize their own vehicles, the do it yourselfers (DIY)
and to professional service stations or installers like gas stations, auto repair ... Show more content on

Proprietary information has decreased the power of buyers as well as the power of sellers in the
aftermarket automotive industry. As the automotive industry becomes more advanced with the use of
computers and special tools the independent repair shops and consumer are losing the ability to make
repairs and replace parts. The information needed to work with the computers and special tools is held
by these specialty manufacturers. They continue to withhold any information in an effort to capitalize
not only on the sale of an automobile but also the repair. This disadvantage which is created by the
automobile manufacturers is being fought on Capitol Hill. The Right to Repair act has been gaining
support in an effort to make this proprietary information public and give the consumer the opportunity
to purchase these items in a competitive market.
Power of Suppliers
Large suppliers like Delphi, Johnson Controls and Visteon, and many thousands of smaller suppliers
and manufacturers make parts for auto companies under new vehicle programs and also make
replacement parts specifically for the aftermarket retailers and wholesalers. A wholesaler/retailer
typically buys from 200 to 300 vendors. Production programs for new cars typically include 5 to 10
percent of production that goes to the aftermarket. Long term supply contracts are rare, and in most
cases, several suppliers are available for any particular product (Hoovers, 2008).

What Is The Lexical Approach
According to Lewis (1993, 1997 and 2000), the basic principles that constitute the Lexical Approach
can be summarised as follows:
The dichotomy grammar/vocabulary is invalid: The strict division between grammar and vocabulary
which has traditionally taken place in the teaching and learning of languages is not valid in this
approach, for the attention is directed towards chunks rather than words in isolation. At the same time,
an assumption of this approach is to accept that many expressions should not be analysed in their
internal structures, on the contrary, this should be consciously avoided (Lewis, 1997). The manner in
which this approach conceives language does not involve structures with slots being filled by
individual words, but rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense, instead of explaining each single aspect of the language, the teacher should open the
students lexical chunks by giving three or four more examples that may clarify students doubts about a
certain topic or the meaning of a word.
If in doubt, point them out : The teacher should point each new collocation out since the process of
learning these new collocations is supposed to be noticed by the students. The author proposes that
collocations have not been properly learned because teachers have not been highlighting their
incidence and importance within any oral or written text in the L2.
Essay preparation use collocation: Whenever the teacher provides his/her students with new words
related to the topic of a certain essay, there should be an instance in which collocations of those words
take place. In that way, the teacher would facilitate the students process of writing.
Make the most of what students already know : The teacher should plan his/her lessons and put them
into practice guided by what students already know. In this sense, the teacher occupies what has been
previously learned and enriches the vocabulary students have already internalised, in order to incline
their knowledge about vocabulary and, more specifically,

Borders Are The Worst Invention Ever Made By Politicians...
The Problem
Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians, Jean Claude Juncker, the European
Commission president stated this while reflecting on globalization s failed promise of borderless
nations, and the creation of borders more rigid than ever (2016). Across the world, wall building has
become the common political strategy used by nations who deem physical barriers as the only way to
deal with difficult neighboring nations. The increasing fortification of borders as not just a political
line, but as an established physical barrier, responds to the security and migration issues at a global
level. Border walls are used for varying purposes, walls can separate opposing forces; often, they are
used to make territorial claims; however the more problematic use, is the keep out unwanted groups.
When the Berlin Wall fell nearly three decades ago, there were 16 border walls in the world; today the
number is ever growing with over 70 completed border walls globally (Brunet Jailly, 2016). Experts
agree that walls do not address the root problems of security and migration, supported by the fact that
global refugee applications and terrorist attacks have increased tremendously even though countries
have walled themselves off; which leaves unanswered questions as to the real reason walls are still
being built. Although building a wall has become a common political strategy in response to global
concerns of security and migration, nations should consider the reasoning

Significance Of The Battle Of Remagen

Similarities And Differences Between Telecommuting And...
Telecommuting, remote work,[1] or telework is a work arrangement in which employees do not
commute to a central place of work. A person who telecommutes is known as a telecommuter ,
teleworker , and sometimes as a home sourced, or work at home employee. Many telecommuters work
from home, while others, sometimes called nomad workers , use mobile telecommunications
technology to work from coffee shops or other locations. According to a Reuters poll, approximately
one in five workers around the globe, particularly employees in the Middle East, Latin America and
Asia, telecommute frequently and nearly 10 percent work from home every day .[2] Today, as annual
leave or vacation is today seen as absence from the workplace rather than ceasing work,
telecommuting is used by office employees to work while on vacation.
The terms telecommuting and telework were coined by Jack Nilles in 1973.[3] ... Show more content

Gender and Sport Socialization Essay
Gender and Sport Socialization
Socialization is a life long process whereby the individual learns the appropriate roles and norms of
behaviour within a particular society. From birth, children are socialised into sex linked roles; in many
instances males are expected to behave in a masculine way and are encouraged to be involved in
activities, such as sport, that are traditionally regarded as male. Women however are usually expected
to behave in a feminine manner; a vast contrast to the encouragement of males to be strong, powerful,
forceful and aggressive. This is reflected in women s participation in sport, and more importantly, their
coverage in the print media, which is minimal in comparison to their male counterparts. ... Show more

The media s linking of the skill of key sports with maleness and the constant exposure of the public to
this process, has the effect of inferiorising femaleness and female activities. By implication, it seems
that women cannot do certain skilful things that the media value highly. (Williams, Louise. Silent
Armies Storm the Last Male Bastion . The Weekend Australia, February 16 17, 1985). Such examples
include ...powerful tackles...impressive slam dunk... (The Age, 24/2/2001) which are viewed as
predominately male skills, and an attribute women cannot compete with.
Notions of femininity influence views about how girls should be. This can create conflict for girls who
participate in sports that require unfeminine behaviour and produce unfeminine bodyshapes . Women
are depicted in the media in ways that reinforce the prevailing community attitudes and stereotypes
about them. They are not viewed as strong, heroic figures to be idolised on the basis of their talent and
sporting achievements. Rather in many cases, women s coverage is on the basis of sporting fashion . A

Dna Sequence Variation Of Different Ants
Understanding the different populations in the world can be very interesting. It can be interesting
because it is curious to question whether or not some species can be similar or different even if they
live in different habitat. Therefore, this persuaded me to go deeper in figuring out if there is a
relationship between different species that are raised and born in different habitat. This lead me to the
question: If investigating the DNA sequence variation of different ants, will there be a significant
different in the population of the ants being found in different areas? It is hypothesized that there will
be a significant difference in the DNA sequence if the ants are found in different areas because they do

After the ants were placed in the gel it was sent off to be sequence and that is where the phylogenetic
tree was able to be created to analyze if there is a significant difference in the two species. When
performing the experiment, the trickiest part in doing this experiment is removing the supernatant
from the tube and leaving a small pellet of DNA because in some of the tube the pellet was hard to see
with a naked eye. Therefore, the supernatant had to be removed carefully so that none of the pellet
DNA was removed along with it. When going through this experiment, three different trials were
performed because put in the spectrophotometer, the DNA of the ants were not picking up in the files.
Carpenter ants were used at first, then gall wasps were used and last we went back and used carpenter
ants and red fire ants. When we used the carpenter ants again along with the red fire ants, DNA was

Trade was an integral part of survival and income during the common era. Between 600 C.E. and 1450
C.E, the Indian Ocean trade network and the Trans Saharan trade network had Arab traders travel and
change the way sea trade developed and became extraordinarily successful. Trade created
communication and familiarity between people of different background and where they reside from.
Communication of people lead to diversification of culture, creating unions of people starting
enormous perceptions of culture. The Trans Saharan trade and the Indian Ocean trade were very
similar yet very different. Items that were exchanged through trading were a bit different and the
culture was more diverse throughout the Indian Ocean trade than the Trans Saharan ... Show more

During the fourth century, trade of the Red Sea and some measure of the Arabian Sea was controlled
by the kingdom of Axum in Christian Ethiopia. Arab traders gained authority through the progress of
merchandise, and Arab armies lead to diminish the power of the Christian Ethiopeans. The main
trading link between East Africa and the Indian Ocean was contributed by Arab merchants. Arab sailor
began to consider importance in the Indian Ocean trade at the beginning of the seventh century. Arabs
from the south were very familiar with sea trade. Arab armies started moving north and came in
contact with the Sassanians of Iran. They were the previous masters of the Indian Ocean and the Arab
armies learned new skills from them. After the capital of Baghdad was built by the Abbasid dynasty,
Arab sailors became experts of the Indian Ocean trade. Arab traders who traveled through the Indian
Ocean and Trans Sahara became a big part of sea

The Vermont Gurudwara
The etherial ambiance of the Vermont Gurudwara is really welcoming. The white tomb is a distinct
part of the signature architecture that sets all gurudwaras apart from the other buildings around it. The
temple represents the interests of the Sikh community. People visit the gurudwara to pray to the holy
book of the sikhs called Gurugranth Sahib. Located at, 1966 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, the sikh
temple of Vermont not only caters to the religious needs of the Sikh people but also serves as a
counseling hub where people seek advice on legal issues like immigration and visa issues. The prayers
offered at the gurudwara make the sikhs feel united as a community and helps them feel connected to
their Waheguru (The Almighty). Followed by the prayer is the Langar, a term that is used to describe
the community service to serve free food by the sikhs. No matter which religion a person belongs to,
he can savor the food served at the Gurudwara for no charge. Founded over 55 years ago, the Vermont
Gurdwara has an architecture inspired by the Mughals which is why it can easily be distinguished
from the other buildings in its area. The carvings on the white marble can be compared to the ones on
Taj Mahal in India. The Gurudwara has four entrances, one on each side which signifies a warm
welcome to people from all religions. The holy book rests under a canopy which is specially designed
for it. The Gurugranth Sahib, which

Dylan Thomas
The Poet
Alcoholic, neurotic, and adulterous: one would never expect these traits to be present in one of the
most influential Welsh poet in literary history. Born in October 27, 1914 in Swansea, Wales, Dylan s
father was a local English professor and his mother a seamstress. David Thomas would read
Shakespeare to Dylan in his early youth, consequently, sparking Dylan s interest in poems and other
rhythmic ballads of W.B. Yeats and Edgar Allan Poe. Being enraptured by literature, Dylan neglected
his studies later dropping out to become a reporter at the South Wales Daily Post. Only 18 months
later, Dylan left to work on his poetry full time and writing some of his most revered works such as
the poem of my analysis, And Death Shall Have No ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He got into a marriage filled with affairs and scandals. He got treatment for serious mental and
physical issues due to alcoholism yet he drank himself to sleep every night. His actions seems to have
directly imprinted onto his poetic works. They go mad they shall be sane and Split all ends up they
shan t crack . The blending of the unreal with reality emphasises the two sided nature of death. How
can a man go mad, but still keep his sanity? How can a split object not crack? Death is not really the
cease of existence of a person, but really just the physical decomposition of the body itself. In Dylan
Thomas case, his body has already been slowly Twisting on racks when sinews give way, Strapped to
a wheel, yet they shall not break . This is similar to the theme in Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good
Night . Thomas asserts that he will not face death with open arms and will go down fighting to his last
breath. The spirit is like a memory that lives on in those one has influenced. The spirit of Dylan
Thomas would only crack when people have completely abandoned him, however, the split ends are
kept together in history forever. Lovers be lost love shall not . The subtle difference in usage of love
creates a vastly different interpretation of this paradox. Although physical lovers would be separated,
the emotional bond would last. The direct contradiction serves as an extended metaphor of death s
inability to cease all memory

  • 2. Relics Of Buddhism And Buddhism Relics are thought to be present in Buddhism since the 5th Century B.C.E, when the original Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, was said to have lived, and Buddhism itself was a new religion. They continue today as sacred objects of worship. Relics that are as old as Buddhism itself are said to exist and still be worshipped. Although the idea of relics may seem contradictory to many of Buddhist beliefs, they actually do resonate with many ideals of Buddhist teachings and practices. To see whether relics pose a contradiction between doctrine and practice, we first need to see exactly what relics in Buddhism are. The word relic itself has many meanings including something left behind , the body or bodily frame , constituent element or essential ingredient and many more interpretations. In Buddhism, relics are body parts and/or any physical remains of a highly regarded Buddha or monk. They are held in stupas, constructed dome shaped structures, associated with Buddhas or other powerful beings. Relics are worshiped just as sacred objects and other things in a temple would be. A large appeal of relics is that they are portable and are an easy way to closer with the Buddha itself. When relics are present the Buddha is present, quoted Schopen, describing just how connected relics are believed to be to these powerful beings. Relics are, therefore, an important aspect of worship and relation to the Buddha in this religion. How then could they be contradictory to the doctrine of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Metabolic Rate Of An Organism Abstract: Metabolism is used to refer to all of the chemical reactions involving energy transformations in the cell of the body, for example cellular activity such as cellular respiration and its sub activtys like glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain all produce energy in the form of ATP and a byproduct of the energy production, heat is also produced . Although the cell is not 100% efficient thermodynamically, the energy in the form of heat is lost in the cell each time when energy is produced. Metabolic rates of an organism can be measured directly by the amount of heat lost from the body in a certain period of time. Another way an organisms metabolic rate can be measured is indirectly, by measuring the amount of oxygen that is consumed in a given period of time. In the experiment conducted, we needed to find the metabolic rate of an ectotherm. Using a goldfish (ectotherm) we calculated the metabolic rate by means of counting the number of operculum beats when three different goldfish where submerged in various temperatures. What was found is that the metabolic rate increased when the temperature increased and the metabolic rate decreased as temperature dropped. Introduction: Metabolism is a term in which defines all of the chemical reactions involving energy production. Some of these chemical reactions involve cellular respiration by which is the series of metabolic process by which living cells produce energy through the oxidation of organic ... Television was not invented by a single inventor, instead many people working together and alone over the years, contributed to the evolution of television. * In Sorbonne, France1922, Edwin Belin, an Englishman, who held the patent for the transmission of photographs by wire as well as fiber optics and radar, demonstrated a mechanical scanning device that was an early precursor to modern television. * John Logie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I choose to write about the television invention because arguing that television is educational and entertaining has been overused. The most important quality of television has been overlooked, the ability to change a person s thinking strategy. To categorize everything on television into either Good or Bad is wrong. To inspire hope into the viewer is a gift. The ability to help others visualize a positive concept or idea is a blessing. I believes that the entertainment television has a big and clear effect on real world health by the various programs which offers a wide range of knowledge and information in this sector, for example Dr. Oz Show, and its impact on viewers perceptions of issues such as the quality of managed care, the rights of patients under current law, whether insurance companies are providing sufficient coverage, and end of life decisions. Related work suggests, too, that TV viewers may well mix what they see on news and entertainment together In conclusion, the television is a great technological achievement that has the characteristics of a person, some shows are funny, powerful and inspiring; others are just not worth watching. Although television has a bad reputation, it really is a wonderful tool, bringing into our living room a whole other world. References * (2012, January 9). Report and research. Future Of Fdi During The Oil And Gas Sector Essay Future of FDI in Canada in oil and gas sector Even though Canadian government are showing protective approach presently because of several factors that have affected the land, and has taken the country s wealth to other country. But some believe that because of the foreign investment the wealth of the country has increased, and this has contributed to the overall development of the Canada and the world. Today, there are so much investment done and this looks like it is going to increase in future, and this has showed sign of rejection from the country s environmentalists because it is taking away the natural resources and polluting the environment. Even though the nation has been benefited, there is contrary feeling towards it. On the other hand, government are taking steps to make sure that too much power or all assets are not handled by foreign companies. But some economists believe the rules and regulations of the government in the past has benefited and supported foreign firms rather than domestic firms, because they were trying to cut down the expenses and increase profit in the form of tax. So, the Gray report puts forward the following policy which suggest Canadians to posses high command over the business and environment, increase the profit and reduce the harm of foreign direct investment, and to hold and expand Canadian control where there is need and can be controlled. The problem that worries the government in the past was foreign investors take domestic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Jim Crow Racism This essay will argue that white people were violently racist towards African Americans in the south because the threat of them succeeding economically, educationally, and socially created competition for things that whites felt they were entitled to. Jim Crow laws were created as a way to control the success of African Americans and prevent them from reaching their full potential in society. Evidence of their actions proves this in the laws they made, the ways they treated them, and the words said about them. Whites felt entitled to these things because they viewed themselves as supreme . The threat of African Americans succeeding economically motivated white southerners to act out. For three centuries, African Americans did all of the hard work for white farmers, so they were ahead of the farming game. They had outstanding knowledge of how to grow crops and the best way to do it. Whites felt entitled to being superior, so they wanted to eliminate competition for successful farmers. In Burke County, Georgia, an African American farmer reported that his acreage of land was reduced by the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) committee so that his white neighbor could acquire more land. These acts of blatant racism were nearly impossible to fight back on, because whites had such a tight grip on what African Americans could do. Laws were made that told African Americans what they could do, and most importantly, what they could not do. Educational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Homeostasis of Hemostasis Blood coagulation is the process whereby a blood clot (thrombus) is formed. The formation of a thrombus represents the second stage of hemostasis, following vasoconstriction and platelet aggregation at the site of injury. The clotting process is very complex and its role is to maintain vascular integrity and to induce rapid clot formation after a vascular injury. It is vital to be able to regulate the production of thrombin, in order to prevent thrombosis, as well as maintaining normal blood circulation. As shown by figure 1, the coagulation cascade is a protein based system which is initiated through the activation of two separate pathways designated extrinsic and intrinsic. These two pathways proceed through the common pathway of coagulation until fibrin is formed. Revealing how this dynamic emerged requires a nuanced understanding of the motivation behind the Charter and the techniques it employed to succeed. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, like the entire patriation process, was motivated by and mobilized support through, constitutionally enshrining democratic core values, multiculturalism and a sense of nationalism. However, it should not be seen as merely a symbolic gesture on the part of Britain and Canada or merely a strengthening of core values. Instead it was a fundamental reinvention of Canadian federalism that shifted power away from the provinces to the federal government and from the Parliament to the courts. This was accomplished by incentivizing provincial acceptance, developing common interests, and, as a result, formalizing a national identity where the protection and expansion of core values was encouraged as fundamental. This dynamic allowed the reinvention to, by and large, succeed. Through her character Esther, Plath depicts the path that leads to suicide: the inner turmoil that causes the desire for a release; the ideation of suicide as a solution; and finally, the attempt. Esther s desire to die spawned from being unable to reconcile her id and her superego. Her id was her desire to adventure, to make something special of her life; her superego, the part of her that understood her place in society at the time, that she was expected to be a wife and mother and stay home. • 24. Instrumental And Instrumental Aggression Aggression is distinguished in two forms, affective aggression and instrumental aggression. Affective aggression is aggression that is caused by emotions such as anger and frustration whereas instrumental aggression is aggression that is used as a means to some other goal. In the below, I will discuss both using the example of a child bullying another as instrumental aggression and a recent fatal stabbing of a young girl as both instrumental and affective aggression. Bullying is determined to be instrumental aggression because there is generally another goal that is being served for the individual doing the bullying. Whether we use the example of a young child bullying on the playground or an older individual being cyberbullied there is a goal attached to their actions. That goal could come in the form of lunch money or to make sure the bullied child is picked last for a schoolyard game or in the instance of cyberbullying it could be purely to de individualize and humiliate raising the bully s own self esteem and self worth. There could be a multitude of reasons and situational forces that cause an individual to bully another. It is possible that the bully is in desperate need to be accepted by their peers and feels that devaluing another individual raises their own worth. What Is The Lexical Approach According to Lewis (1993, 1997 and 2000), the basic principles that constitute the Lexical Approach can be summarised as follows: The dichotomy grammar/vocabulary is invalid: The strict division between grammar and vocabulary which has traditionally taken place in the teaching and learning of languages is not valid in this approach, for the attention is directed towards chunks rather than words in isolation. At the same time, an assumption of this approach is to accept that many expressions should not be analysed in their internal structures, on the contrary, this should be consciously avoided (Lewis, 1997). The Problem Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians, Jean Claude Juncker, the European Commission president stated this while reflecting on globalization s failed promise of borderless nations, and the creation of borders more rigid than ever (2016). Across the world, wall building has become the common political strategy used by nations who deem physical barriers as the only way to deal with difficult neighboring nations. The increasing fortification of borders as not just a political line, but as an established physical barrier, responds to the security and migration issues at a global level. Border walls are used for varying purposes, walls can separate opposing forces; often, they are used to make territorial claims; however the more problematic use, is the keep out unwanted groups. When the Berlin Wall fell nearly three decades ago, there were 16 border walls in the world; today the number is ever growing with over 70 completed border walls globally (Brunet Jailly, 2016). Experts agree that walls do not address the root problems of security and migration, supported by the fact that global refugee applications and terrorist attacks have increased tremendously even though countries have walled themselves off; which leaves unanswered questions as to the real reason walls are still being built. This lead me to the question: If investigating the DNA sequence variation of different ants, will there be a significant different in the population of the ants being found in different areas? Therefore, the supernatant had to be removed carefully so that none of the pellet DNA was removed along with it.
