The Life Of Mary Shelley s Life
The Life of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
It has been said on many occasions, by many individuals, that truth is stranger than fiction. Mary
Shelley s life, saturated as it was by sorrow and coincidence, serves as very strong evidence of
this statement s veracity. From the circumstances of her birth to her passionate life and the end of
her days, Mary Shelley led a life far more interesting than any work of fiction could hope to imitate.
Mary Shelley was born Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin to Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin
at Somer s Town, a district of central London, on August 30, 1797.
Twelve days after giving birth to her daughter Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, Mary Wollstonecraft
died of puerperal fever. William dealt with his grief over the loss of his wife by writing a
moving account of her life, titled Memoirs of the Author of The Rights of Woman . The
biography was received negatively due to the detailed accounts of Mary s liaisons with Imlay and
her suicide attempt. The honesty of the text in these regards led to the temporary destruction of
Mary Wollstonecraft s already polarized reputation. William s reputation was also crumbling at the
time, as his reformist ideals were losing popularity in the wake of the French Revolution. The care
of Fanny and newborn Mary was left to William, although female friends and maids attended to the
practical issues of parenting.
Mary spent many long hours by her mother s grave in the churchyard of St Pancras Old Church, and

Tinnitus Research Papers
What Is Tinnitus?
If you have experienced sudden ringing in ear, then you may have a condition called tinnitus.
This is a condition that affects around 20 percent of adults. It is often a sign of an underlying
problem, such as a circulatory problem or ear injury. It may also be a sign of hearing loss.
In addition to sudden ringing in ear, a person may notice a clicking, roaring or hissing sound. One
may hear the noise in one or both ears. In some cases, the noise is so loud that a person is unable to
concentrate.
What Causes Sudden Ringing In Ear?
There are a number of things that can possibly cause tinnitus. It can be caused by an infection or
blockage in the ear. It may also be caused by exposure to loud noises. In fact, it is estimated that 90
percent of people with tinnitus have noise induced hearing loss.
High blood pressure and heart disease can also cause tinnitus. This condition can also occur due ...

Treatments For Tinnitus
There is no cure for tinnitus, but there are some things that can be done to manage it. If your
tinnitus is caused by the buildup of earwax, then removing the earwax can help alleviate the
sudden ringing in ear. Earwax can be removed by flushing the ear out with warm water. It can also
be removed with a device called a curette.
There are also some medications that can be used to reduce the tinnitus symptoms. Valium, which is
an anti anxiety medication, can be used to treat tinnitus. Alprazolam, which is another medication,
can also reduce tinnitus symptoms.
White noise machines can also be beneficial for people who suffer from tinnitus. These machines
create environmental sounds, such as ocean waves and falling rain. Additionally, if a person suffers
from noise induced tinnitus, then hearing aids can also be

Sex Offender Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation programs aim to treat sex offenders from reoffending, and to design a program that s
effective is a difficult task that s why international studies collate different programs and evaluations
to determine the effectiveness. Results show from Canadian study that over 900 sex offenders from
four different countries only 9.9% of treated sex offenderreoffended sexually compared to 17.3% of
non treated sex offenders and this is using the meta analyses. Additional to the effectiveness of
programs, another study have explored the results from 69 different studies show that treated sex
offender reoffended 37% less then untreated sex offender. The treatment centres aim to trigger their
offenders thinking style, the impact they caused towards victim s life and emotional management
and also intimacy skills. Therapy session always helps offender deal with their offence pattern,

Psychotherapy; this treatment relieved that among 103 sex offenders 77.9% were sexually abused

more generalizable and reprehensive.
The real question is why did those people or children focus someone or a child in a sexual without

inconsistent, hard discipline and also physical sexual abuse contributes to the person to becoming

A Research Study On Periodontitis Is Recognised As...
Periodontitis is recognised as chronic, low grade, inflammatory and pathogenic infection, which
continuously changes at a systemic level (Reddy, Phulambriker, Wanjari, Srivastava, 2012).
Persistent inflammatory infection as a result of Gram negative anaerobic bacteria lead to the
destruction of bone and other tooth supporting structures; an outcome of periodontitisis periodontal
pockets (Usin et al., 2014). This fact enables bacteria and their by products to spread to areas
indirectly through the body s immune inflammatory response (Usin et al., 2014), thus creating
potential damages to other systems and organs.
It has been investigated that oral infections, such as periodontitis may increase the risk of low birth
weight (LBW) (Abati et al., 2013). Offenbacher et al., (1996) pioneering study suggested a
significant correlation between periodontitis and premature and/or low birth weight infants, and
further studies have identified the potential connection. However, the topic has remained
controversial since publication, with additional studies failing to find any positive associations
(Abati et al., 2013).
Depending on the geographical location periodontal disease has been observed in 10 60% of the
population and been associated with osteoporosis, foetal restriction, diabetes, respiratory and
cardiovascular diseases, preeclampsia, preterm low birth weight and low birth weight (Usin et al.,
2014). By definition the World Health Organization (WHO) has defined LBW as below

Defining Accreditation
Accreditation is defined as a verification system in which correctional agencies must comply
with under the American Correctional Association. Privatization brings about competition
between prisons and jails in the community. As a result, prisons and jails are encouraged to make
improvements as deemed necessary. In addition to affecting prisons and jails, accreditation and
privatization also has an effect on the professional development of corrections officers. In recent
years, the correctional administration has become quite familiar with accreditation and
professionalization. For example, the correctional administration is familiar with
professionalization because there are many people residing in the United States whom work
within the field of corrections. These job titles include but are not limited to probation officers,
parole officers, and police officers. It is very imperative for parole and probation officers to
remain professional when dealing with their clients. Also, correctional officers must remain
professional when working with their clients. The only difference is the degree of
professionalism between parole/probation officers and correctional officers. In order for an
individual to become either a probation or parole officer, he or she must obtain a college degree.
He or she must also have a clean record with no criminal activity. After these requirements are met,
the individual must pass the civil service test in order to receive eligibility of becoming a

What the company could do, is to protect and increase its dominance in the Canadian grocery
market. Loblaw has a strong presence in Canada that it should use in its favor to tighten Walmart s

Superstore (RCSS) chain to compete with Walmart superstores. As the incumbent market leader,
Loblaw has an attractive set of strengths and competitive advantages that allowed it to prosper in
the market. Furthermore, Loblaw can explore additional opportunity to increase and maintain
market share, such as exploit emerging new technology, launch a new loyalty program for
customers, make some supply chain adjustments or expand to more locations. Thus, should
Walmart decide to enter the Canadian market, Loblaw will be ready. The positioning map below

Sigmoidoscopy Lab Report
Introduction A lower gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, which is performed as either a

My Grandparents
As a child, I was raised in an uppity, wealthy family. I was the child of the family failure. My
Grandparents raised me. I was the child of the youngest and most enabled of the 11 kids my
grandparents had. My father was a meth addict and my mother was selfish who was more
concerned with her image and social life than her children. My grandmother loved me because
she had children one after the other. By the time she was a master parent, all of her children had
left the nest. With empty nest syndrome, she was all too happy to accept her name sake into her
life and raise a little girl that was did not include an army of screaming children on top of the
small infant she was handed. My grandmother never realized the amount of favoritism she
displayed caused me a terrible childhood by my relatives. I was abused verbally and physically
due to jealousy of her adult children and her other grandchildren just followed the example. My
father, due to his drug addiction was not respected or treated as a parent. He was not allowed an
opinion, at all. They began to make claims that were false, including an opinion I had mental
health issues. One of my uncles had adopted a son with his previous wife and had been raising him
fine until his divorce to my previous aunt due to his adultery with my current aunt. My aunt had 3
children from her previous marriage. When my uncle married my new aunt, they decided that they
were no longer interested in raising my adopted cousin and began to claim

Do The Right Thing Analysis
Do the Right Thing
Films document critical historical events, entertain masses and educate the public on particular
practices. Depending on the theme and intent of the director, films have a substantial contribution
to the human civilization. Do the Right Thing directed by Spike Lee is a1989 American comedy
drama that highlights the racial tension in the ancient society. The filmdepicts a typical day for Lee
in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn when strains between the whites, Indians and African Americans
were on the rise. The production of the film took place when the issues regarding the African
Americans were largely ignored. Therefore, the setting of the video in a black dominated
community illuminates the style as well as outcomes of good and bad (Townsend). It addresses the
stereotypical notions that defined Africans as dangerous and violent by portraying a picture of
hospitable characters. Other than bringing the lifestyle of African American to the limelight, it has
significant relevance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Necessarily, it entails the use of resources and amenities while taking into consideration the
intergeneration and intragenerational needs. First, the fact that the film has importance to the
current society justifies that it met the standards of sustainability and widespread use. Second, the
production in the black community brings out uniqueness, resources and virtuous lifestyles of the
peoples including the Afrocentric dressing (Townsend). In terms of regional development, using the
local capitals to build the capacity and participatory approaches to decision making improves the
practicality of the interventions. The film meets this threshold because it explores the individuality
of a particular society, the systems, and institutions. This aspect is useful in designing workable
strategies and engaging the local people to work towards attaining a beneficial

Imagine this. You have just gotten a new watch, one that is cheap and ubiquitous, the Casio F 91W
digital watch. However, in a string of contiguous events, you are arrested by U.S. armed forces in
Afghanistan, and sent to one of the most widely condemned places in the world Guantanamo Bay
detention camp (Ball). While this scenario may sound strange and confusing, it was the sad reality
for many innocent men, who committed no crime other than wearing a watch. Admittedly, this

innocent, not at all associated with the infamous terror organization. Guantanamo Bay detention

Gitmo has succeeded in alienating the U.S. from allies. President Obama said this himself in a
White House remark on National Security, Because the terrorists can only succeed if they swell

Additionally, Gitmo encourages further terror, as it is used in terrorist propaganda to paint a
negative picture of a hypocritical America (Postel). In fact, the orange jumpsuits worn by victims in
Daesh s (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) execution videos, pay direct homage to the uniform of
Gitmo detainees (Bennet). Furthermore, the intelligence received at Gitmo is often invalid
because, it was given by detainees who were subject to enhanced interrogation techniques, which
were the equivalent of torture. Considering must of the subjects confessions were given under

Major League Baseball s change to the sliding rules has already begun to have a negative impact on

aggravation with the rule surfaced from coaches and players.
After getting burned by the rule last week in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Blue Jays
Jose Bautista called it a bad rule. Toronto manager, John Gibbons had even more comments after
Bautista s slide into second was ruled a double play. Gibbons said, Are we trying to turn the game

The MLB s goal is to prevent broken legs, and clarify the sliding rule for umpires. The officials
on the field that day said Tejada had not tagged the bag once the ball was caught. Utley got the
base and ultimately two more runs scored during the seventh inning of a decisive game.
Rule 6.01 (j) now explicitly states that the runner has to make a bona fide slide and should be able
and attempt to remain on the base (except home plate) after the completion of the slide. The player
must be able to make and take the base without colliding with a player from the opposing team.
The trouble that I have is, well, physics. It is kind of crazy to expect a player to slow their speed
down, or move a bit more to the left or the right, and stick the landing, when momentum rules the
moment. This is not gymnastics. Has the MLB heard of Newton s first law of motion? An object at

direction.

The Last Winter Film Analysis
ABSTRACT
Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards
ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton,
2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that
people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull
subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of
movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or
benefits of environmental change more creatively.
This study will seek to describe one such movie and discuss the different factors, assumptions,
impacts, and scientific accuracies to the same regard. It will also put into consideration the truths,
consequences, and facts that have been portrayed in the movie. The Last Winter, whose release was
in 2007, is a movie that explains environmental changes based on global warming. Its effects and
shall discuss it and try to understand the angle that the producer took in conveying the ecological
change message as well as point out whether it provides a solution for the problem so discovered.
FILM PLOT
The Last Winter is a disaster movie, which bases its storyline on global warming as an event that
brings strange events that could not be explained entirely easily. Oil exploration is one of the
significant activities happening in the area as a team of engineers

My Vacation In Life
The feel of the hot sun beating down on my forehead. The sound of people cheering and
chatting. The taste of the delicious sample of fudge that I was just given from a small shop. I

Missouri, where my family and I plan to have an amazing vacation away from home. To arrive in
Branson, we first had to drive down to Missouri in my mom s silver van. As it was my parents,
my three brothers, and me, the car was very crowded with all of our belongings that we needed
for the trip crammed into the car with us. During the long and arduous car ride that dragged on
for hours and hours, we figured out all of the activities that we hope to attend throughout the week
of our trip. After discussing all of our plans, we decide that we will go to Silver Dollar City, which
is an amusement park, a waterpark called White Water, and many stores including Branson s
Landing, Tanger Outlets and the Five and Dimes store. My dad is very organized, and he is also
a perfectionist. He takes out a yellow lined notebook and writes down a list of everything we are
going to do for each day of the four day long vacation. As he finishes, we finally arrive in

Leningrad Cemetery Winter Of 1941 Summary
In Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 by Sharon Olds, similes and metaphors are used
throughout the poem. These poetic devices are used to convey the message that the people who
die in her town are not treated with the respect they should be. They also provide insight into the
severity of the author s situation and allow the meaning of the work to come to fruition. Without
similes the author would not be able to invoke the feelings of sadness and desperation the work
gives the reader. They give insight into the author s internal thoughts and how she perceives her
situation. Similes and metaphors provide a clear picture of the despondent world that the author
lived in. In the poem the dead are Bound with ropes like the tree s ball of roots... Show more content

In the first simile, the author gives an air of hope describing the bodies as stiff [cocoons] that will
split down the center / when the new life inside is prepared (10 11). Although they are dead, Olds
alludes to the idea that they may be reborn again comparing them to a caterpillar and their death
being a new beginning instead of an end. Oppositely, she says that most of the deceased lay like
corpses... / with no sign of peace wanting to come back (12 16). This take on death is the exact
opposite of the former, it is filled with dread and hopelessness. Both these similes act as an
extended metaphor for the attitude of the author. She is conflicted between the escape of death
and the life that she has built for herself. She ends the poem with the lines even to the bread made
of glue and sawdust, / even to the icy winter and the siege. (17 18). In addition, the fact she says
most of the corpses look as if they want to return, Olds loves her existence, even though the
suffering she endures everyday is excruciating, it s better than the nothingness that is death. Also,
the author says that the bodies lay like corpses, this comes across as odd because one would
expect bodies to do so, making this statement seem obvious. However, before she uses this simile,
she uses the two others about trees and cocoons which make death seem more cerebral than it
actually is. But towards the end of

The Crowd A Study Of The Popular Mind Summary
Gustav Le Bon Charles Marie Gustav Le Bon was a sociologist, psychologist, and physicist who
is well known for his writing in each of these fields. Le Bon was a witness to the actions of the
French Commune, in the spring of 1871, what he refers to as the French Convention in his essay
The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind. He was greatly influenced in what he saw during this
revolutionary uprising and analyzed the actions of crowds and the way they acted differently
than the individuals within them would (Wikipedia, n.d.). The individuals in the crowd lose their
conscience personality and adopt the thoughts and actions of the psychological crowd. Le Bon
points out that the size of a psychological crowd could be as small as a half a dozen and as large as
a nation, and the combined influence driving them to act does not have to be negative, but could
easily have a positive vibe (Le Bon, 1926).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Characteristics Of Dante s Characters In The Inferno
Dante s usage of mythological creatures in the Inferno was well thought out, with every creature
having its own role and place. An educated man, Dante Alighieri knew, not only, how to write
worlds into his paper but also, how to write them into the minds of his readers. He uses character
placement to make his stories more realistic. His characters are people, or things, that the people in
his time would be familiar with. They connect his writings to the real world, creating a sense of
reality. Even though, we are aware that some of his characters, mostly consisting of mythological
creatures, can not exist, just the knowledge that they exist in this world is enough. Each

The first human animal hybrid Dante and Virgil encounter are the furies along with their friend
Medusa. They guard the gates to the City of Dis, where the heretics lie in their fiery graves. It is
on their tower, whence the hostile furies spy Dante and Virgil approaching. They call to Medusa
to turn him to stone and they add, how wrong we were to let off Theseus lightly! (Inferno 9.54)
This, of course, refers to the renown hero, Theseus, who also journeyed through hell and
happened to pass the furies. He had been able to escape with his life. Their companion, Medusa,
also bears an unique backstory. Cursed by Athena after breaking her vows as a priestess, her hair
was transformed into serpents while her gaze could turn anything that met her eyes to stone. She
was supposedly killed by another greek hero, Perseus. A parallel between the furies and another
hybrid, the minotaur, is analogous in the fact that they both face Theseus. Unlike the furies, the
minotaur dies by Theseus hands. In Dante s Inferno, the Minotaur guards the violent. After seeing
Dante and Virgil he flies into a rage, a rage so unhinged it could only be described as beastly or
monstrous. Monstrous has latin origins from the word monstrum which means the birth of a
deformed animal. It can be perceived as a sign as to what beastliness

Tim Thomas Who Is Really Ben
In the movie Tim Thomas who is really Ben is an all around good person who used bad qualities to

himself for the accident. He took the life of 6 other peoplein the car including his wife, but he

and his ultimate sacrifice ws his hearthe gave to Emily. His character changed, because of he used

Taking a Look at Kingdom Animalia
Animals share certain characteristics such as being heterotrophs, multicellular, no presence of cell
walls, and many more. Animals can further be divided through the use of a phylogeny, which is an
evolutionary tree. A phylogeny shows patterns of relationships between several different types of
species. When branching off to dissimilar species, characteristics are taken accounted for whether
they are derived, ancestral, or shared traits. Traits include symmetry, tissues, segmentation, body
cavities, and patterns that deal with the development of embryos. The kingdom Animalia breaks
down to two subkingdoms, Parazoa and Eumetazoa. Parazoa include organisms, such as sponges,
who most members lack symmetry, but are multicellular to help circulate water and reproduce.
Eumetazoa separates from Parazoa by symmetry and definite shape therefore, anything that
branches off from Eumetazoa consist of these characteristics. Eumetazoa, or true animals , further
divides among protostomes and deuterostomes (Telford, 2009). Protostomes and deuterostomes
differentiate by the embryonic development and how the zygote goes through mitotic divisions,
known as cleavage, and so on (Raven et al., 2014). Bilaterally symmetrical animals have two
dissimilar types of development. Therefore because some protostomes are not bilaterally
symmetrical, protostomes broke down to two different classes, one class being Spiralian
protostomes who undergo spiral cleavage in embryonic development. Spiral

what Photoshop can do, I began to think about these high gas prices and what is causing them.
Everyone talks about, complains about, and jokes about the high gas prices, but no one does
anything about them. Many people told me what they thought was causing the high gas prices, but
I was always wondering what really is causing them. Is it corporate greed or is it supply and

I don t have anything against environmentalists, but sometimes I think they go overboard. It
seems like they care more about two animals on a wildlife acre then they do about the American
economy that helps employ hundreds of people, however, I don t think more drilling would
really solve the problem. An article in Time magazine stated that, Refinery capacity is not the
major driver of higher gas prices. The greater shortage is in the oil itself. Gas prices have been
rising along with the price of crude. If gas prices were climbing while crude oil s remained flat,
that would tell you there was a bottleneck pushing up prices. That hasn t been the case ( Why Gas
Won t ). So while drilling more would help, it would not solve the problem and might end up
creating more problems like pollution. According to CQ Researcher, refineries release many
toxic particles into the air which can cause many people to get sick (Cooper Air Pollution ).
More refineries will cause the air to become more polluted. Many people think that it is
corporate greed and that putting a cap on gas prices would solve the problem. Remember the
1970s, when people had to wait in long lines for gas? The reason for that was because many places
didn t have any gas to sell. Gas companies stopped selling gas to them because the gas companies
couldn t make a profit. They couldn t make a profit because there was a cap on gas prices. Learn

Osteogenesis Imperfecta Personal Statement
1...2...breathe. 1...2...breathe. As I stare at neon ropes, I become completely disconnected from

why I was currently treating a jump rope test as seriously as the first landing on the moon.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta, in its medical sense, meant those who possess it also possessed fragile

Nt1330 Unit 5 Argumentative Essay
1. For my television commercial I used the popular Sham wow infomercial. According to the site
the Sham Wow is a washcloth, which will dry, and polish any surface. They are like a towel,
chamois, and sponge all in one except they re extremely absorbent and can be used over and
over. However, a segment on ABC s Good Morning America gives Sham Wow a C and says it s a
normal towel so why have so many Americans fallen for the gimmick? The art of persuasion
plays a big role in this commercial. The reciprocity principle, which says when someone does
you a favor, you feel the need to return it; is one of the many aspects used here. Sham Wow
makes you feel like they are doing you a favor by giving you such a good deal. Offering four

Non-verbal Communication Essay
Not a day goes by that an individual does not interact with another person, either by phone or in
person. There will always be some interaction between two or more people. This interaction will
bring about many thought process and emotions that will give the receiver a cue to respond with
verbal and nonverbal messages.
` Every time one person interacts with another non verbal communication takes place, it `may be
intentional or unintentional, but it is part of the rapid stream of communication that passes
between two interacting individual (Gabbott Hogg, 2001).

Merriam Webster defines non sequiturs as an inference that does not follow from the basis premises
(Non sequitur, 2011). The cause and effect of facial expressions are unrelated. Cultures will differ in
nonverbal communication and actions but the facial expressions basically the same.
Gestures
Body gestures are physical types of nonverbal communication. Tapping of a pencil on a desk while
studying, a wave from someone to gain another s attention, or hand signals such as Sign Language
or police directing traffic.
Body Language and Posture How the sender present himself/herself sends nonverbal
communication to a receiver. Handshakes, eye contact, facial expressions, and posture send silent
messages to the other person. Posture is an indicator of approachability. The distinction in posture is
rectangular and triangular. The posture or position of two people will indicate private conversations
(rectangle) or an invitation to join in a conversation (triangle) (Bjorseth, 2007).
Proxemics
Space, proxemics, is the distance between two or more people. The distance between individuals
at a social gathering will be approximately 18 inches compared speaking to an audience, which is
12 to 15 feet. This is better known as space between individuals.
Eye Gaze

1.What is competition like in the value added seafood industry? What competitive forces seem to
have the greatest effect on industry attractiveness from the standpoint of packaged seafood

The competitive environment in the value added seafood industry, while not significantly
threatening, does still have its challenges. Addison and Rathle acknowledge that there is not a large
competitive market for their specific area, although there are four or five that market gumbo. They

Also, this increased competition among grocers resulted in some going out of business resulting
in loss of sales for those vendors. Also, these large grocery chains demands exceeded the ability
for small food companies to provide products in such large volume. This forced these small
businesses to focus more on smaller markets and also to identify niches in the market that could be
exploited. Small restaurants and food chains now became major purchasers of these products. Also,
the frequency of the average American eating out increased further adding to the attractiveness of
vendor sales to restaurateurs. Also, certain businesses expanded to meet these large demand
markets in the grocery and restaurant market. These state of the art production facilities threatened
smaller companies without a competitive product or established market. All of these changes
resulted in certain drivers coming to the forefront. The first would be the need to reduce volatility.
Competitors in the market would need to select markets wisely to reduce the risk of not being
competitive or the uncertainty of the marketability of their product. They also would need to
increase their ability to diversify into different products. Large food companies may monopolize a
certain product making it necessary for other companies to become creative in developing other
products or marketing strategies. On the plus side, the ability of a company

Opposition To Slavery Dbq
Slavery has been a widespread practice for decades, before slowly disappearing. In the period
from 1776 to 1852 there was both opposition and approval for slavery in the United States.
However, underlying forces such as change in religious morals, the rise of abolition groups and
the abolition movement, and support in the black community contributed to growing opposition
over slavery in this period. Change in religious morals was probably one of the major causes for
growing opposition to slavery. People were beginning to use Christian ideals to support the stance
that all men were created equal, as stated in the Declaration of Independence that was signed in
1776 when the nation was first founded. Whereas laws once allowed the harsh treatment... Show

Such support even existed in places where slavery was no longer legal, which could have
promoted the eventual opposition of slavery in other places, especially when blacks in free
states would buy the freedom of their family who were located in slave states. This is evident in
document C, where it mentions how the Reverend Mr. Gloucester visited New Jersey to find
financial aid to free his wife and children. In this black community, people were able to come up
with a good sum of money, though they were also poor, to help Mr. Gloucester. This is an
example of how helpful blacks were to one another during this odd time of the debate over
slavery. Inspiration to others in the black community was important too. Frederick Douglass,
when enslaved and treated extremely inhumanely, managed to find himself fighting back against
his white overseer (Doc. G). Fighting back became a widespread tactic to shut down the support
for slavery, whether it was through subtle disobedience or physical resistance. There was also
support through media, which protected and informed blacks. There were advertisements for
Uncle Tom s Cabin directed toward the black community for sale. Posters existed to warn free
blacks of white officers (Doc. I), showing how even when trying to find freedom, slaves were still
hunted down and denied their basic rights. However,

Defects Of Nuclear Weapons
Isolde Fang Current issue Benefits and defects of nuclear weapons The use of nuclear weapons
is a heated topic today, catching more attention from both the public and governments than
before. While many countries favor nuclear weapons for safety and international reasons,
nuclear weapons do have defects in moral, environmental, and economic aspects. For counties
that favor nuclear weapons, they favor them because of the benefits brought by them in
guaranteeing national safety and boosting international status. Nuclear weapons can protect a
country physically, like a physical protection of national territory, just as Sico van der Meer
writes in his article States Motivations to Acquire or Forgo Nuclear Weapons that nuclear
weapons are considered to be the ultimate tool for survival. (2016) This citation shows that
nuclear weapons are so powerful that they can be used as the ultimate tool of survival. Due to
their power, they can protect a country s territory from external aggression by deterring other
countries. Japan is a good example of this kind of country. There are many possible reactions
Japan can made after the threat from North Korea of nuclear attack of U.S. bases in Japan. Some
assert that protecting Japan itself by developing nuclear weapons is a good way (Corr, 2017). By
developing nuclear weapons, Japan can deter North Korea from actual nuclear attack and protect
itself from warfare. Free of intrusion and warfare is what always pursued by all

Daughters Of The Leper Research Paper
Daughters of the Lepers
Many historians, writers, and health practitioners, still remain curious to know and seek stories of
the Lepers of Kalaupapa. According to the Hawaiian Journal of History, in 1865, the Hawaiian

It goes without saying that all things, miniscule or monumental, are bound to become subject of

1890 1925 written by Elizabeth Ewen, change was especially imminent as they were forced to
exchange the old ways of their native countries for the new ways of America. Immigrant women s

(Ewen 21). The social environment of America was drastically different than what these
immigrant women were used to; in America there were distinct social classes that were
completely defined by how much money one had, or didn t have; while in Europe they had of

have their own form of luxury; while their day to day lives were still reminiscent of nineteenth
century life, many women indulged in meals at tasteful restaurants, shopping at department stores,
and finding more affordable variations of Fifth Avenue inspired fashion looks. While immigrant
women and families may have been discouraged to find that a life of extravagance and ease, as the
American dream had promised, may not be a viable option; it was certainly not impossible for
these women to adapt to the American culture and find their of versions of luxury.
Immigrant women in this era also saw a change in how the idea of romance and marriage correlated
as well as how they were expected to act as wives.

because it helps the cast members to put their best efforts forward when it comes to innovation,
quality, community, storytelling, optimism, and decency. Even though the Walt Disney Company
strives to have good communication, there is always a chance for some kind of conflict to arise.
Conflict of interest is one example of a conflict that can arise in the company. The Walt Disney
Company can use these conflicts to improve communication within and among groups by using
them as examples for future references.

Why Do Cults Be Illegal
Cults are a small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as
strange or sinister. Cults are portrayed to the people as dangerous and strange because of what
they often do. For example, one cult that is well known is the Ku Klux Klan also knows as the
KKK. They targeted African Americans, the criminal acts they did were very violent. All cults
should be illegal because they choose violent methods to put out their message. Cults are
dangerous to be apart in. The reason they should all be illegal is because they are very dangerous.
As well as their actions turn into violent acts. They fulfill acts of racism and oppression. Another
reason is because they brainwash their members to make them stay in the cult. Once in a cult many
members of such cults aren t allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actions that are made by cults are always going to be negative, there will never be any positive
effects made by cults. In an article from The New York Times it talks about how brainwashing in
a cult scares their members to force them to stay, Most of the malign cults are frightening to
people when their tenets are revealed, as with the People s Temple after Jonestown .
Brainwashing is one of many ways cult leaders make their members do the activities they want
them to do. Cult members usually do not know they are in a cult. Once they figure out they are
in one they want to leave but cannot. The members that are able to leave the cult will be left
with the physical and mental damages the cult leaves them with. In an interview, Paul Martin
talks about the damaged patients who were in cults looking for a way to be happier, seekers
looking for a worthy cause or a way to serve God, the lonely or depressed who find a caring
community in the group, and those who are caught up by the excitement of the movement or the
charisma of its

I am an African American male, my father and mother are separated, so I grew up in two one
parent households. Every week I went from my dad s house in Compton, to my mom s house in
Long Beach. I m not an athlete, not a thug, never been convicted of a crime or misdemeanor, and
have never been suspended What do you see? You have already come up with assumptions
whether you like it or not. Society has already come up with assumptions of who I am and what
social category I belong to. When people see me all they see is the typical black male in
American society, if I m not a thug, then I m a rapper thug, if I m not a rapper thug then I must
play a sport. All the African American male is good for in American society is to pick cotton,
have flashy chains, and ride around in whips. When someone looks at me for the first time their
first thought is he must be ghetto, angry, or a thug. I must have a single mom without a dad
because that s what the black male is right , a thug, or an athlete because he s to dumb to go to
college, the black male has unclaimed babies each from a different mother, all we are good for is to

Analysis Of The Book The Demon
In another of Kawamoto s work, The Demon , the mother figure in the film undergoes a
transformation that impacts family negatively: old age. The Demon begins by presenting the
mother figure lying in bed, dying and unable to care for herself. Shortly after, we see her difficult
life flash before her eyes a life full of loneliness and sadness. The scene later switches to her sons
going to hunt for food. During their hunting trip, the sons notice something follows them and
eventually realize it was a demon. They immediately go home, only to watch their mother
transform into said demon. The mother s transformation into a demon signifies how motherhood
during old age transforms women into unwanted beings. Even though the sons love their mother,
her frail condition hinders them, as she cannot assist around their home in any way. To describe
this situation, Rebecca Copeland, in her essay, Mythical Bad Girls, compares a mother at old
age to a womb that devours, she gives life and then takes it back. This comparison exhibits
negative views about mothers. First, it shows how society views women solely as vessels for
reproduction. Copeland s comparison of mothers to their reproductive organs not only objectifies
women, but it also suggests women have no other purpose than reproducing. Second, Copeland s
comparison implies that while a mother may bring life, she also takes it away through her
requiring care during old age. Due to a mother requiring care, she impedes upon

Social Construction Theory Of The National Football League
Recently, an increasing number of African American football players have been leaving their
respective colleges with years of eligibility left, to pursue a dream of playing in the National
Football League. This year alone, 101 athletes will be forgoing their remaining years of college
eligibility to enter the NFL draft. Thus representing a staggering increase from the 40 early entrants
in 2007 (Heitner). This decision seems deceptive, in that it appears explicitly based on utility
maximization and the traditional economic theory of Becker and Stigler. That model does provide
an adequate explanation based on set universal preferences with efficiency determining the price of
commodities. However, I believe that it is more accurately modeled as a function of a socially
constructed framework of choice. Berger and Luckmann s social construction theory presents the
opportunity to understand more fully the background of these athletes that shapes their decision
making process. In my analysis, utility maximization is embedded within this social construction
framework. Given this, not only can we understand the conventional economic reasons for this
decision, but also the socialization that shaped the individuals to that point. I will demonstrate that
the choices of these athletes can be analyzed by taking into account how each person s preferences
and efficiency is molded by their socialization. To prove the value of my approach, I examine cases
chronologically, delving into the

  • 2. The Life Of Mary Shelley s Life The Life of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley It has been said on many occasions, by many individuals, that truth is stranger than fiction. Mary Shelley s life, saturated as it was by sorrow and coincidence, serves as very strong evidence of this statement s veracity. From the circumstances of her birth to her passionate life and the end of her days, Mary Shelley led a life far more interesting than any work of fiction could hope to imitate. Mary Shelley was born Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin to Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin at Somer s Town, a district of central London, on August 30, 1797. Twelve days after giving birth to her daughter Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, Mary Wollstonecraft died of puerperal fever. William dealt with his grief over the loss of his wife by writing a moving account of her life, titled Memoirs of the Author of The Rights of Woman . The biography was received negatively due to the detailed accounts of Mary s liaisons with Imlay and her suicide attempt. The honesty of the text in these regards led to the temporary destruction of Mary Wollstonecraft s already polarized reputation. William s reputation was also crumbling at the time, as his reformist ideals were losing popularity in the wake of the French Revolution. The care of Fanny and newborn Mary was left to William, although female friends and maids attended to the practical issues of parenting. Mary spent many long hours by her mother s grave in the churchyard of St Pancras Old Church, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Research Study On Periodontitis Is Recognised As... Periodontitis is recognised as chronic, low grade, inflammatory and pathogenic infection, which continuously changes at a systemic level (Reddy, Phulambriker, Wanjari, Srivastava, 2012). Persistent inflammatory infection as a result of Gram negative anaerobic bacteria lead to the destruction of bone and other tooth supporting structures; an outcome of periodontitisis periodontal pockets (Usin et al., 2014). This fact enables bacteria and their by products to spread to areas indirectly through the body s immune inflammatory response (Usin et al., 2014), thus creating potential damages to other systems and organs. It has been investigated that oral infections, such as periodontitis may increase the risk of low birth weight (LBW) (Abati et al., 2013). Offenbacher et al., (1996) pioneering study suggested a significant correlation between periodontitis and premature and/or low birth weight infants, and further studies have identified the potential connection. However, the topic has remained controversial since publication, with additional studies failing to find any positive associations (Abati et al., 2013). Depending on the geographical location periodontal disease has been observed in 10 60% of the population and been associated with osteoporosis, foetal restriction, diabetes, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, preeclampsia, preterm low birth weight and low birth weight (Usin et al., 2014). • 6. Defining Accreditation Accreditation is defined as a verification system in which correctional agencies must comply with under the American Correctional Association. Privatization brings about competition between prisons and jails in the community. As a result, prisons and jails are encouraged to make improvements as deemed necessary. In addition to affecting prisons and jails, accreditation and privatization also has an effect on the professional development of corrections officers. In recent years, the correctional administration has become quite familiar with accreditation and professionalization. For example, the correctional administration is familiar with professionalization because there are many people residing in the United States whom work within the field of corrections. These job titles include but are not limited to probation officers, parole officers, and police officers. It is very imperative for parole and probation officers to remain professional when dealing with their clients. Also, correctional officers must remain professional when working with their clients. The only difference is the degree of professionalism between parole/probation officers and correctional officers. In order for an individual to become either a probation or parole officer, he or she must obtain a college degree. He or she must also have a clean record with no criminal activity. The player must be able to make and take the base without colliding with a player from the opposing team. The trouble that I have is, well, physics. • 13. The Last Winter Film Analysis ABSTRACT Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton, 2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or benefits of environmental change more creatively. • 15. Leningrad Cemetery Winter Of 1941 Summary In Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 by Sharon Olds, similes and metaphors are used throughout the poem. These poetic devices are used to convey the message that the people who die in her town are not treated with the respect they should be. They also provide insight into the severity of the author s situation and allow the meaning of the work to come to fruition. Without similes the author would not be able to invoke the feelings of sadness and desperation the work gives the reader. They give insight into the author s internal thoughts and how she perceives her situation. Similes and metaphors provide a clear picture of the despondent world that the author lived in. In the poem the dead are Bound with ropes like the tree s ball of roots... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first simile, the author gives an air of hope describing the bodies as stiff [cocoons] that will split down the center / when the new life inside is prepared (10 11). Although they are dead, Olds alludes to the idea that they may be reborn again comparing them to a caterpillar and their death being a new beginning instead of an end. Oppositely, she says that most of the deceased lay like corpses... / with no sign of peace wanting to come back (12 16). This take on death is the exact opposite of the former, it is filled with dread and hopelessness. Both these similes act as an extended metaphor for the attitude of the author. She is conflicted between the escape of death and the life that she has built for herself. She ends the poem with the lines even to the bread made of glue and sawdust, / even to the icy winter and the siege. (17 18). In addition, the fact she says most of the corpses look as if they want to return, Olds loves her existence, even though the suffering she endures everyday is excruciating, it s better than the nothingness that is death. Also, the author says that the bodies lay like corpses, this comes across as odd because one would expect bodies to do so, making this statement seem obvious. However, before she uses this simile, she uses the two others about trees and cocoons which make death seem more cerebral than it actually is. But towards the end of ... Le Bon was a witness to the actions of the French Commune, in the spring of 1871, what he refers to as the French Convention in his essay The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind. He was greatly influenced in what he saw during this revolutionary uprising and analyzed the actions of crowds and the way they acted differently than the individuals within them would (Wikipedia, n.d.). The individuals in the crowd lose their conscience personality and adopt the thoughts and actions of the psychological crowd. It is on their tower, whence the hostile furies spy Dante and Virgil approaching. They call to Medusa to turn him to stone and they add, how wrong we were to let off Theseus lightly! (Inferno 9.54) This, of course, refers to the renown hero, Theseus, who also journeyed through hell and happened to pass the furies. He had been able to escape with his life. Their companion, Medusa, also bears an unique backstory. Cursed by Athena after breaking her vows as a priestess, her hair was transformed into serpents while her gaze could turn anything that met her eyes to stone. She was supposedly killed by another greek hero, Perseus. A parallel between the furies and another hybrid, the minotaur, is analogous in the fact that they both face Theseus. Unlike the furies, the minotaur dies by Theseus hands. In Dante s Inferno, the Minotaur guards the violent. • 20. Taking a Look at Kingdom Animalia Animals share certain characteristics such as being heterotrophs, multicellular, no presence of cell walls, and many more. Animals can further be divided through the use of a phylogeny, which is an evolutionary tree. A phylogeny shows patterns of relationships between several different types of species. When branching off to dissimilar species, characteristics are taken accounted for whether they are derived, ancestral, or shared traits. Traits include symmetry, tissues, segmentation, body cavities, and patterns that deal with the development of embryos. The kingdom Animalia breaks down to two subkingdoms, Parazoa and Eumetazoa. Parazoa include organisms, such as sponges, who most members lack symmetry, but are multicellular to help circulate water and reproduce. Eumetazoa separates from Parazoa by symmetry and definite shape therefore, anything that branches off from Eumetazoa consist of these characteristics. Eumetazoa, or true animals , further divides among protostomes and deuterostomes (Telford, 2009). Protostomes and deuterostomes differentiate by the embryonic development and how the zygote goes through mitotic divisions, known as cleavage, and so on (Raven et al., 2014). Bilaterally symmetrical animals have two dissimilar types of development. Therefore because some protostomes are not bilaterally symmetrical, protostomes broke down to two different classes, one class being Spiralian protostomes who undergo spiral cleavage in embryonic development. An article in Time magazine stated that, Refinery capacity is not the major driver of higher gas prices. The greater shortage is in the oil itself. Gas prices have been rising along with the price of crude. If gas prices were climbing while crude oil s remained flat, that would tell you there was a bottleneck pushing up prices. That hasn t been the case ( Why Gas Won t ). So while drilling more would help, it would not solve the problem and might end up creating more problems like pollution. According to CQ Researcher, refineries release many toxic particles into the air which can cause many people to get sick (Cooper Air Pollution ). More refineries will cause the air to become more polluted. Many people think that it is corporate greed and that putting a cap on gas prices would solve the problem. Remember the 1970s, when people had to wait in long lines for gas? The reason for that was because many places didn t have any gas to sell. In the period from 1776 to 1852 there was both opposition and approval for slavery in the United States. However, underlying forces such as change in religious morals, the rise of abolition groups and the abolition movement, and support in the black community contributed to growing opposition over slavery in this period. Change in religious morals was probably one of the major causes for growing opposition to slavery. Such support even existed in places where slavery was no longer legal, which could have promoted the eventual opposition of slavery in other places, especially when blacks in free states would buy the freedom of their family who were located in slave states. In this black community, people were able to come up with a good sum of money, though they were also poor, to help Mr. Gloucester. This is an example of how helpful blacks were to one another during this odd time of the debate over slavery. Inspiration to others in the black community was important too. Frederick Douglass, when enslaved and treated extremely inhumanely, managed to find himself fighting back against his white overseer (Doc. G). Fighting back became a widespread tactic to shut down the support for slavery, whether it was through subtle disobedience or physical resistance. There was also support through media, which protected and informed blacks. There were advertisements for Uncle Tom s Cabin directed toward the black community for sale. While immigrant women and families may have been discouraged to find that a life of extravagance and ease, as the American dream had promised, may not be a viable option; it was certainly not impossible for these women to adapt to the American culture and find their of versions of luxury. Immigrant women in this era also saw a change in how the idea of romance and marriage correlated as well as how they were expected to act as wives. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Analysis Of The Book The Demon In another of Kawamoto s work, The Demon , the mother figure in the film undergoes a transformation that impacts family negatively: old age. The Demon begins by presenting the mother figure lying in bed, dying and unable to care for herself. Shortly after, we see her difficult life flash before her eyes a life full of loneliness and sadness. The scene later switches to her sons going to hunt for food. During their hunting trip, the sons notice something follows them and eventually realize it was a demon. They immediately go home, only to watch their mother transform into said demon. The mother s transformation into a demon signifies how motherhood during old age transforms women into unwanted beings. Even though the sons love their mother, her frail condition hinders them, as she cannot assist around their home in any way. To describe this situation, Rebecca Copeland, in her essay, Mythical Bad Girls, compares a mother at old age to a womb that devours, she gives life and then takes it back. This comparison exhibits negative views about mothers. First, it shows how society views women solely as vessels for reproduction. Copeland s comparison of mothers to their reproductive organs not only objectifies women, but it also suggests women have no other purpose than reproducing. Second, Copeland s comparison implies that while a mother may bring life, she also takes it away through her requiring care during old age. Due to a mother requiring care, she impedes upon ... • 46. Social Construction Theory Of The National Football League Recently, an increasing number of African American football players have been leaving their respective colleges with years of eligibility left, to pursue a dream of playing in the National Football League. This year alone, 101 athletes will be forgoing their remaining years of college eligibility to enter the NFL draft. Thus representing a staggering increase from the 40 early entrants in 2007 (Heitner). This decision seems deceptive, in that it appears explicitly based on utility maximization and the traditional economic theory of Becker and Stigler. That model does provide an adequate explanation based on set universal preferences with efficiency determining the price of commodities. However, I believe that it is more accurately modeled as a function of a socially constructed framework of choice. Berger and Luckmann s social construction theory presents the opportunity to understand more fully the background of these athletes that shapes their decision making process. In my analysis, utility maximization is embedded within this social construction framework. Given this, not only can we understand the conventional economic reasons for this decision, but also the socialization that shaped the individuals to that point. I will demonstrate that the choices of these athletes can be analyzed by taking into account how each person s preferences and efficiency is molded by their socialization. To prove the value of my approach, I examine cases chronologically, delving into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
