Essay Breaking the Cycle of Poverty caused by Lack of...
Society has been trying to reduce poverty for over 500 years (Indigenous) and has never succeeded.
The education and skill level, health or handicap status, and discrimination play a vital role in poverty.
So why does society keep trying the same approaches: give them money or give them jobs? Neither
one ever worked. A major factor determining whether someone will end up living in poverty,
education or skill level can make or break an income. Education plays a vital role in acquiring jobs,
learning new skills, and bringing home necessities and comforts of life. A person who does not receive
an education has a very small chance of making much money and acquiring skills that would bring
home a desirable income. Many who do not have an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boaz allowed the widows of the community to glean in his field. Some believe it started somewhere in
the Middle Ages. Dependent on who one listens to, one may consider a different start time. Perhaps it
all started in England, under Edward III, with the Statute of Laborers, enacted in 1349 or with the
work ethic in 1571 with Martin Luther. Regardless we have had organized attempts to rid ourselves to
poverty for many years, and, we have been at it a very long way to go. More recent causes not
necessarily related to money already in hand have been categorized as follows: inadequate education
or skills, poor motivation to work and other negative attitudes or skills, inability to form stable
families, proliferation of low wage, low skilled jobs, poor schools and inadequate investment in
training and skill formation, lack of access to higher education, residential segregation, discrimination
in labor, credit, and housing markets. Of these listed, two deal with discrimination (7 and 8), two with
jobs (2 and 4) and four with education (1, 2, 5, and 6), and one with families (3). Society has been
dealing with discrimination for decades (Amadeo, Kimberly) with the first big push away from it by
President Johnson in the 60 s. Discrimination still is with society and society still need to work on this
aspect. The United States has also had a jobs program for decades with very limited success.

Capacity For Empathy
The capacity for empathy allows us to better understand others and to be easier to read their energy.
However, this is a feature that can be harmful, so it is important to know how not to be subject to other
people s emotions and energies.
If you identified yourself as an overly empathetic person, would be good for yourself to take action
that you won t longer be harassed by the things which don t have anything to do with you. It is
important to keep energy for yourself and the people you love and that in their system do not miss the
information, emotion, and energy that you damage and draw strength.
Try to make it through these steps:

Imagine a shield around you
When you are in contact with a person who does not suit you or you are in an environment that is full
of bad energy, visualize around you a transparent shield which does not transmit negative energy and
not let other people s negative emotions reach you.
Use the power of water
After a contact with a person who is very negative will be suitable for you to wash down all that
energy from yourself. If you are not able to take a shower, then at least wash your hands. Imagine how
the accumulated negative energy goes far away from you.
Express your emotions
Whatever you feel, it is important to express. Suppressing emotions never brought anything good to
anyone , in contrary, leads only to various diseases. Allow yourself to express concern, fear, anger,
disagreement, or anything else you feel.
Grounding
Imagine that you are connected to the ground with the pipes through which you send all your negative
energy in the ground, and imagine that you are taking the positive energy from the earth. This exercise
increases the flow of healthy energy in us.

Ukraine Case Study
Introduction: The educational challenges endured by the Ukrainian government and its citizens is a
suitable option for the final comparison paper against Finland. Ukraine shares a longstanding history
with Russia having only attained independence in 1991, and aimed to cultivate a relationship with
Western Europe, particularly the European Union (EU). Discouragingly, twenty six years after
independence Ukraine wrestles with a depleted economy inherited from former and first President
Leonid Kravchuk. Leonid Kuchma, the country s second president, only fared slightly better than his
predecessor but soon faltered. Kuchma was accused by the opposition of immoderately conceding to
Russian economic interests. What s more, Kuchma s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of Russia s most well known acts of aggression against Ukraine was the annexation of Crimea.
With evidence that Russia is attempting to expand its influence, how will this affect Ukraine s
sovereignty and most importantly its policies? (The Atlantic 2014). Above all, it will be interesting to
dissect how this affects education policies. In spite of pressure from Russia, in 2014 Ukrainian
policymakers passed a legislation that empowered universities with more autonomy with their
curriculum, finances and hiring practices. Before its passage, the government was overly involved in
the design and implementation of education programs which inhibited faculty research endeavors
(Freedom House 2016).
The Electoral System Ukraine s next presidential and parliamentary election is scheduled for 2019. A
mixed election system is utilized to elect the 450 legislative seats. 225 members of parliament are
elected through first past the post voting (FPTP) with a five percent threshold from single member
districts and the other 225 are selected from a closed list through proportional representation. In order
for a party to be successful they must acquire a minimum of 5 percent of the votes. On Election Day,
Ukrainians cast two ballots, a ballot in support of their local representative and political party
(Freedom House 2016). More so than other parliamentary systems coalitions are imperative for
victory. One of the most notable aspects on the 2014

Discuss the Significance of Father Figures in Frankenstein
Discuss the significance of father figures in Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a story of science gone dreadfully amiss. Shelley offers depth and meaning to
Frankenstein by presenting (sometimes covertly so) insinuations of failed father and son relationships
littered throughout the story. The most obvious relationship in this story is that between Victor
Frankenstein and his monster, however, there are other characters in the story that present themselves
as father figures. In this essay, I will endeavour to discuss not only the significance of the familial
relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creature, but that of Victor and Alphonso
Frankenstein, Henry Clerval and his father amongst others.
As Allen notes, the most obvious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compassion and obligation urges Victor to sympathise with the creature and even render him happy
like a father should a son; although even so, he makes no attempt to satisfy the monster s needs
(Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20).
Victor can understand the feelings of compassion or fatherly care that stir within him but he is unable
to sustain those feelings of concern: I compassionated him, and sometimes felt a wish to console him;
but when I looked upon him my feelings were altered to those of horror and hatred (p.121). He
continues to fail his creature, swearing him into exile, then creating another like him before destroying
it (and thus any chance of happiness for the creature), and then hunting him down. Victor is never able
to perceive the monster s tormented psyche leading to his exclamation Let the cursed and hellish
monster drink deep of agony; let him feel the despair that now torments me (p.172). The irony is
Victor s creation already feels this, but Victor s anger and lack of insight causes him to oversee it
(Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20).
There is a slippage of identity between Victor and his creature causing a constant shifting between the
controller and the victim (Morris, The

Neurocognitive Disorder Analysis
The term neurocognitive disorder was recently established by the DSM V and is divided into major
neurocognitive disorders and mild neurocognitive disorders. The DSM V has grouped the terms
delirium, dementia, and amnestic and other cognitive disorders that were previously used in the DSM
IV TR into one term known as neurocognitive disorders (Mcanulty, 2013). Major neurocognitive
disorder consisted of the term dementia in the DSM IV TR while minor neurocognitive disorder was a
diagnosis not previously included in the DSM. Major neurocognitive disorders will affect an
individual s everyday life significantly, while a mild neurocognitive disorder may not. Neurocognitive
disorders primarily affect an individual s cognitive abilities acquired ... Show more content on

Individuals with this diagnosis can also experience rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior
disorder which includes acting out dreams while in a sleep state. Frontotemporal lobar degeneration
occurs in individuals ages 50 70 and results in inappropriate behaviors, language impairments, trouble
with cognition involving thinking and concentration, as well as movement impairments (Mayo Clinic,
2015). Other forms of neurocognitive disorders include trauma, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson s
disease, and Huntington s disease (Grohol, 2015). Huntington s disease is a genetic disorder that
affects specific nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This disease occurs in earlier years, typically
between the ages of 30 40 and symptoms include changes in personality including anxiety and
irritability, a severe decline in cognition, and weakness affecting gait (Swierzerski, 2014). Traumatic
brain injuries occur from some form of head trauma and symptoms are determined by the part of the
brain that s affected but can include difficulty coordinating movements, problems with speech, and/or
memory impairments . Individuals with a diagnosis of Parkinson s disease can also often times also

Society s Impact On Wealth And Elite Social Status
Increase in wealth during the post agriculture period impacted elite social status greatly. Elite social
status was a great deal to the wealth people in this era. They would do everything in their power to
ensure that their social status was unharmed. The wealth made the wealthier individual s feel higher
and separated from the common people. The increase in wealth allowed room for elite to make rules
that were to be governed in sexual relationships. It was so important to pass on the elite social status
and wealth that it became codified as written laws for the elite. Wealth impacted the elite because it
controlled who they could marry in order to pass on the social status. The most acceptable form of a
relationship that would form into a marriage in an elite social status would be a relationship between a
man and a woman, both coming from elite families. The wealth would then be able to be passed down,
which exemplifies the impact wealth had on the elite social status. Elite men that formed relationships
with a non elite woman would only be viewed her as a mistress for sexual pleasure. A elite woman and
a non elite man would cause shame to be brought upon her family and the man could possibly be
murdered for his actions. There were exceptions where a wealth family would adopt non elite males
and raise them to be elite. (McKay, Pg. 26) Wealth impacted elite social status because most
inheritance is left to male heirs, but in desperate efforts to keep wealth within their

Robert Frost: Modern Multiplicity
Robert Frost is a multiple poet.
Louis Untermeyer
What is customary and, therefore, stereotypical of modern artistic thought is the belief that only one
central meaning can be gathered from any one reading; that these singular interpretations support, give
credence and justify hegemonic forces or grand narratives in society. Defining the term modern in his
work The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge, Jean Francois Lyotard designate[s] this
name and movement to any science ... legitimat[ing] itself ... [by] making an explicit appeal to some
grand narrative (xxiii). It is thus to the disgust of postmodernists to find Robert Frost s name, poems
and poetry listed with such a narrow minded, self aggrandizing, so called sophisticated group (like
T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound and Amy Lowell) since Frost was not a poet who believed science and
language nor the source of science and language to be singular, but rather ulterior, double speaking or
multiplicitous. In short, Frost believed duplicity or duplicitous interpretations should be drawn out of
the reader with the help of the author through the medium of poetic form which, to him, paradoxically
eliminates the author s influence on the reader.
A sample of Frost s multiplicity or multiplicitous form can be extracted from the opening line of one
of his last well known poems Directive whose first line begins Back out

Dorothea Dix And Mary Lyons
During the nineteenth century, Women began to have an important role in natural rights and female
education. Dorothea Dix and Mary Lyons spent their life fighting to help better society. Dorothea Dix
was tireless in exposing mistreatment of those who were diagnosed with mental illness or who were
institutionalized in the 19th century. She helped effect change for thousands of people. Mary Lyon was
a female educator. She founded Mount Holyoke College, the first women s college. Dorothea Lynde
Dix was born on April 4, 1802, in Hampden, Maine (1). She grew up in a religious home with her two
siblings and her mother, Mary Bigelow Dix and her father, Joseph Dix. With her father being a
distributor of religious tracts, Dix had to help stich and paste them together. She did not enjoy this
chore. At the age of 12, Dix left her home and moved in with her aunt. She left to escape from an
emotionally absent mother and an abusive father (2). Dorothea Dix had a hard childhood and became
sensitive to others hardships due to the abuse of her father. After leaving, She began teaching school at
age 14. In 1819, she returned to Boston and founded the Dix Mansion, a school for girls, along with a
charity school that poor girls could attend for free. She began writing textbooks, with her most
famous, Conversations on Common Things, published in 1824 (1). She enjoyed teaching and was
accustomed to it due to having to watch her siblings during her parents episodes . Dorothea Dix

Summary of the Ballet quot;Giselle quot; Essays
Giselle is a romantic ballet choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Adolphe Adam beautifully
composes the music. This ballet was originally performed in Paris in 1841. The production that we
viewed in class was from La Salla. Giselle is one of the last ballets of the Romantic era.
The element that stood out the most to me was how effectively the music and the footwork
corresponded. The best examples of this are seen through the dancers solos. Especially Albrecht s
solo, his feet glide on the stage at the same tempo as the music. Similarly, Giselle s graceful footwork
is truly amazing. I really like the similarities between the choreographed footwork and the music, it
makes Giselle seem much more elegant and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also enjoyed the mixture of solo dancing in comparison with the peasant dancing in the first act. I
thought the two coincided very well. Additionally, the choreographer, made excellent use of the stage
space. There was a good variation of movement across the stage, without unnecessary distraction.
Furthermore, in Giselle the viewer notices are the difference in costumes, compared with today s more
contemporary ballets. Giselle is dressed as a girl, not like a typical ballerina. The length of her skirt is
very long, but stops short enough for you to allow seeing her footwork. There is also a clear
distinction among the high society and the peasants. When the peasants are dancing, their costumes
are all in the same, more muted color hue, whereas when the high class is dancing or on stage they
have noticeably ornate costumes. This is an important element to this ballet. It also makes this
difference more easily distinguishable to those people who do not know the whole story line behind
Giselle.
There are two more very noticeable elements of Giselle , facial expression, and body movement. The
facial expression throughout both acts is very noticeable. For example, in Act One, you can see by the
way Giselle looks around; she is very shy and obedient to her mother. By watching her face, you see
her batting her eyes at Albrecht and flirting with him in a very innocent

The Impact Of Social Media On Social Movements
Social Media in Social Movements The article How the Bundys social media machine fed their
political movement by Lindsey Bever on The Washington Post discusses how social media was a
driving force in the Bundys Occupation of the Oregon Wildlife Sanctuary (2016). The Bundys used
social media to communicate with their followers and as a call to arms in times of need. In addition,
they used social media to promote their cause, to support local ranching and lessen the government s
possession of land. In the article, communications professor Phil Howard states, It s very difficult to
have a modern political movement without a social media strategy to emphasize the influence of
social media in social movements. After a lull in social media activity, the Bundys came back to
protest the prosecution of Dwight and Steven Hammond, who were ranchers who committed acts of
arson on public land in 2012 (Bever, 2016). This lead them to react and occupy a building on a
wildlife sanctuary in Oregon. After a period of time, the F.B.I. stepped in to shut down the occupation
of the wildlife sanctuary, this lead to the arrests of many members and the death of one, LaVoy
Finicum. After Finicum was shot, his daughter used Facebook to confirm his death. Fearing a raid,
later a man used Finicum s YouTube channel to also announce his death and make another call to
arms. Finally, they used social media to issue a stand down. The usage of social media was near
imperative to the Bundys cause and

Examples Of Ptsd In The Iliad
PTSD and a Reevaluation of Homer s Achilles
In Homer s Iliad, Achilles hears about the death of his dearest friend and says Nothing matters to me
now / But killing and blood and men in agony (19.226). In the fit of reckless violence which follows,
he slaughters so many young men that he clogs the River Scamander with their gore, slays helpless
suppliants, and attempts to mutilate his chief enemy s body after killing him. While it is impossible to
deny Achilles compulsive and violent behavior in much of The Iliad, modern research on the effects of
battle trauma on the human psyche invites us to reevaluate his behavior. In light of modern research
conducted on war veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Achilles ... Show

Achilles, once a figure of godlike power and bravery, now appears a very mortal figure suffering from
the brutality of war. His fall from heroism to barbarism is no less tragic and no less horrid, but is much
more understandable when viewed as a psychological phenomenon only recently identified by modern
psychology. This understanding of Achilles also serves to bridge the cultural and temporal gaps
between Homeric society and our own. The Iliad provides compelling evidence that PTSD is a cross
cultural and cross temporal disorder which warriors have experienced since time immemorial. From
Troy to Vietnam and beyond, soldiers have suffered trauma from combat which has in turn caused
them to inflict violence on others, as well as on themselves. Achilles almost cuts his own throat in the
opening lines of Book 18, and refuses to eat, drink or bathe for most of the rest of The Iliad. Thus, he
effectively makes himself the living dead (in commiseration with Patroclus). Similarly, the number of
Vietnam vets who have committed suicide exceeds the number who died during and after the war
from wounds, and an estimated 1.5 million still suffer from

Habeas Corpus and the War on Terror Essay
How can we justify the war on terrorism abroad when the war was brought to our door steps with very

one that can be easily found through understanding of the criminal mind and the way the terrorists

as such. I will also be providing information on Habeas Corpus both past and present as well as what
it means both in English and American traditions. Furthermore the way everything will be written will

Habeas Corpus is a Latin phrase meaning You have the body this may sound a little odd but it just
means that we have a liberty and we have the right to a fair trial and we are to be presumed innocent

misuse of this liberty is something that can be abused both by the good guys and the bad ones as well.
By using this as a bad guy who has not yet been convicted he will be running free until his case is

regarding President Bush and the enemy combatants from Afghanistan and Iraq. When it comes to the

Canadian Civilian Gun Ownership Regulations
It will go down in history as the day Canadians stopped feeling so safe. In the early hours of the
morning on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, Michael Zehaf Bibeau, a 32 year old Canadian born Islam
convert, fatally shot a soldier with a hunting rifle at the National War Memorial in Ottawa before
opening fire at nearby Parliament Hill. Gunfire echoed through the hallowed halls of the Centre Block

the House of Commons passed Bill C 51, establishing new kinds of gun ownership permits called

background checks. The movement for stronger and more effective gun control was reinvigorated a
decade later in the aftermath of the worst shooting incident in Canadian history: the Montreal

the school s corridors, cafeteria, classrooms and offices, killing fourteen women in total and injuring
another fourteen people, including four men. Over the next few years, public appeals for stricter gun

Benefits Of Lucid Dreaming
All You Need to Know About Lucid Dreaming
Chapter 1: Overview of Lucid Dreams
Dreams have played a very crucial role to cultures through the years. The aborigines have believed
that the stories of the world very start as the realization of their dreaming. Native Americans have
believed that their dreams are doorways to the spiritual world, ways to quests and prophecies.
The concept of lucid dreaming is not something new either. Aristotle is considered to be the first one
to write about lucid dreaming; however, he did not coin a term for it. Certain Tibetan Buddhists have
been practicing dream yoga for a long time, which is something similar to lucid dreaming.
The ultimate goal of dream yoga is to examine your consciousness and give you to a state of constant
awareness. Bulk of the principles governing the Buddhist belief is to be familiar with the world for
what it is, without illusion. A lucid dreamer is familiarized with the dream world for what it is a
dream. As you dream, you go with the flow of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advantages of lucid dreaming start with being able to promote stress relief through your dreams;
although lucid dreaming can have a lot of other concrete advantages in your own life. Following are
just some of the known benefits of lucid dreaming:
Facing fears many lucid dreamers utilize lucid dreams as a means to deal with their phobias or
overcome their nightmares. You can set up your lucid dream to deal with a worst case situation, so you
will already know that you can surpass it. You may also use your dreams as a means to gradually
experience your fears and to discover how you can surpass them. For example, if you are afraid of
creepy crawling insects, you can make your elf face these creatures in your dream, knowing that you
can wake up at any time. You ll soon find yourself getting over much of your fear that usually comes

Introduction To Gun Control Essay

Should Bob Marley Have A Statue
I think Bob Marley should have a statue dedicated to his honor. I think this for three main reasons. The
first is the fact that he won the Order of Merit award. This is important for many reasons the first is
the fact that it is the fourth highest honor awarded by the nation of Jamaica. The second reason this is
so important is because it can only be given to two people a year. The final reason this is so important
is because this award can only be held by 15 people. The second reason he deserves a statue is because
he was so dedicated to his religion. Bob Marley was a Rastafarian and as a Rasta he believed god told
everybody to always keep there body whole and he was so devout to his religion when he was

Essay on Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet
Parental Expectations
Parental expectations are basically the way parents expect their kids to live their lives. The definition
of expectation is the act of expecting; to have a prospect of future good or profit . Parents often expect
their kids to be perfect. By this I mean make all the right decisions, do everything the way the parents
want it to be done, and live up to their parents standards. I don t always agree with a lot of today s
parental expectations because some parents try to benefit themselves instead of the kids. In this essay,
I will describe parental expectations from today and from the play Romeo and Juliet. I will link some
of the examples of expectations to movies, or real life scenarios. ... Show more content on

Kids have dreams of their own, too.
Another situation in society today is that kids are expected to follow in their parents footsteps. Some
parents that own companies expect their children to take over one day without ever asking the child s
thoughts on the idea. An example of this situation is from the movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
. There is an elf named Hermey. Like all other elves in the North Pole, Hermey is expected to make
toys for all the children around the world. There is one problem; Hermey doesn t want to make toys.
Hermey wants to be a dentist. After hearing this, the head elf gets very angry at Hermey. Hermey is
known as a misfit due to his choice and he later runs away to not have to make toys anymore and to
learn more about being a dentist. It is important to always ask your children what they think of certain
things and what they want in life instead of just expecting or assuming what they want without their
consent. Expectations put a lot of pressure on kids and it would just be easier on them to let them
make their own decisions (but still guide them in the right path).

The company must factor in that each of their customers has lifetime value, a greater value than a
small gain made on first sales. With competition in their sector, more penetration pricing would be
appropriate. The penetrating pricing strategy would only make sense to retain customers; the pricing
strategy must realize lifetime value, (University of Phoenix, 2011).
Acer should avoid high price tactics, or selling off their market share. By doing this, they would retain
only a small percentage of the market. Acer currently does not have the capacity to capture a niche
market based on the uniqueness of their products (University of Phoenix, 2011). Their customers are
not willing to pay a much higher price for this new product. In general, most businesses tend to skew a
penetration price too high in an attempt to make more money. Based on Acer s market, it would make
sense to consider cost plus pricing; they would charge their prices explicitly with reference to average
costs plus a percentage profit mark up. Predatory pricing and limit pricing would not be appropriate
(McConnell Brue, 2004).
Acer has a degree of control over its prices and a considerable amount of non price competitions
exists, which ultimately leads to price discrimination (University of Phoenix, 2011). As such, Acer
should focus on attaining and retaining loyal customers. Their non pricing strategy should be focused
on the development of products that are unique

Osteocytes s Role In Bone Homeostasis
Osteocytes are the most abundant cell type in human bones and play a fundamental role in bone
homeostasis. Representing 95% of all mature bone cells and have the longest lifespan in all bone cells,
up to decades, osteocytes are the key to bone integrity1. They are initially derived from osteoblasts,
residing within bones and take part in bone metabolism through excessive communication with other
bone cell populations, including osteoblasts, osteoclasts and most importantly, osteocyte progenitors.
Osteocytes secrete soluble signalling factors that regulate both bone formation and bone dissociation.

Symbolism In Through The Tunnel By Doris Lessing
A part of maturing is finally doing things independently without the supervision from parents. In her
short story, Through the Tunnel , Doris Lessing conveys the concept of maturing through becoming
self sufficient. Lessing uses characterization and symbolism to show that being self reliant is a part of
growing up. The symbolism of the color brown and the struggle of Jerry going through the tunnel
represents the signs of maturity. Jerry describes the boys as having burned smooth dark brown skin. In
Jerry s point of view, they are described as big boys, men, to Jerry . The two quotes associate the
brown skin with being older and mature. In the time span between Jerry seeing the boys and Jerry and
his mother leaving the beach, he trains himself to swim through the tunnel in order to be like the big
boys. Jerry suffers through many hardships in order to pass through the tunnel and he does it all by
himself without his mom or anyone to help him. Swimming through the tunnel is like the transition
from an immature child to a sophisticated, young adult. After Jerry swims through the tunnel all by
himself, it is said that his mother puts her hand on his warm brown shoulder . Describing Jerry s
shoulder as brown shows that Jerry is now like the older boys. The symbolism of the brown skin
emphasizes the maturity of Jerry, and the symbolism of the tunnel emphasizes that becoming a young
adult is a journey one has to go through on his or her own and with a lot of struggling on the way. The
effect of the symbolism illustrates that growing up will include some hard times, but it is worth it in
the end because people know that they can do things on their own now.
The characterization of Jerry illustrates the stages of maturing and becoming independent. In the
beginning of the story, Jerry is depicted as young and immature. The immaturity of Jerry is shown
when he is trying to capture the older boys attention. In order to capture their attention, he began
splashing and kicking in the water like a foolish dog. This action conveys that Jerry is still immature,
and wants to join the older kids. After seeing the boys pass through the tunnel, Jerry also wants to pass
through in order to be a part of their group. In order

Madonna And Madonna Comparison
The Madonna: a picturesque representation of Judeo Christian ideology s mother Mary and her young
prophetical child, an infant Christ an innocent and thus, oppressive trope of renaissance art that echoes
throughout art history as subject matter for masters from Byzantine proto renaissance, mannerist, and
baroque, to contemporary artists alike. The Madonna was, just like nearly everything with religious
epithets, a means of influencing followers. Being no exception, the Madonna represents something
sinister. Despite the lamb wool white façade incumbent to its subject, the subjugation of women
through assigning their role as conclusively maternal and depriving them of their sexuality. The
Madonna facilitates the mentality that women are merely complementary means to men that are solely
meant to execute the role of maternal figures. Two grossly contrasting works accentuate a critical
contemporary perspective on the evolution of feminine roles from early Christian ideologies. Jan Van
Eyck s 1436 painting, Lucca Madonna, and Catherine Opie s 2004 photograph, Self Portrait Nursing,
exercise formal elements to criticize the sociocultural value of women from early 15th century Europe
from a contemporary view. Although created nearly 600 years apart, both works are weighty
representations of the climate surrounding their society s perspective on femininity and reduce it to a
trite set of visual stereotypes: namely, a primary culprit of contemporary gender inequality that is the

The Importance Of Childhood In Medieval Art
Childhood is an important part of the life of an individual. This is because childhood determines to a
greater extent the behavior and personality of an individual in adulthood based on the environment
they are brought up. Ideally, every individual has some childhood memories of pictures in stacks of
albums in the house. This demonstrates the importance of childhood in the development of an
individual. However, ancient artists do not share these sentiments, as they did not portray the
importance of childhood in early paintings and pictures. Aries (1996) pointed out Medieval art did
until about the twelfth century did not know childhood or did not attempt to portray it (p.33, which
demonstrates that ancient artists did not view or assumed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thirteenth century demonstrated or represented childhood in a concept closer to the current
representation. Childhood representation changed in the thirteenth century as art embodied aspects of
childhood compared to miniature small scale representation. Ideally, the evolution towards a realistic
and sentimental representation of childhood begins with the childhood of Jesus. The representation of
Jesus on His mother s arms led to family representations that demonstrated childhood characteristics.
However, a more realistic and sentimental childhood representation revolved around Jesus until the
fourteenth century when the
Italian art helped to develop and spread an ideal childhood representation.
The gothic period produced yet another type of childhood representation. This period saw the
representation of a naked child. The previous representation seldom represented a naked child, except
in cases of innocence and death. The allegory of death and soul introduced child nudity in the
medieval period. Nonetheless, the concept of Holy Childhood continued to develop in both variety
and scope from the thirteenth century onwards. The progress of Holy Childhood showed the progress
of the idea of childhood that was lacking in the previous centuries.

E.E. Cummings and His Wondrous Works
Edward Estlin Cummings was born on October 14, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Cummings
began writing his poems as early as ten years old. His unique ideas and various poetic devices that
were included in his poetry induced him to be one of the most remembered poets of modern day time.
E.E. Cummings was an intriguing poet that is known for many poetic ideas. Among them, Cummings
was known for his ability to create meaning using structure and his avant garde approach towards
language. In his work, Cummings experimented radically with form, punctuation, spelling and syntax,
which caused him to abandon traditional techniques and structures to create a new, highly distinctive
mean of poetic expression. By introducing this new innovative writing style, Cummings has
influenced thousands of poets to carry on with his expression, which is what he had hoped for.
The wide range of writing style that Cummings included while composing his poems gave him the
title of originality. While some of his poetry is free verse (with no concern for rhyme or meter), many
have a recognizable sonnet structure of 14 lines, with an intricate rhyme scheme. E.E. Cummings
poem, Fame Speaks, is an example of one of his more formal poems. The rhyme scheme is an
example of a petrarchan sonnet. The sonnet Fame Speaks talks about how E.E. Cummings wants to be
remembered as a great poet and not forgotten in the future. On the other hand, a number of his poems

Health Information Security
Health information technology privacy and security standards are essential to maintaining
interoperability and security in the exchange of health information. Standards provide a common
language between different systems that need to share information (Himss.org, 2016). These standards
are relevant to healthcare providers to gain access to health records from another facility as to
streamline patient care. A more effective and efficient way for a provider to obtain information is to
have a provider log into a device to see results. In gaining access to health information, it is critical to
maintaining security. With easy access to information come concerns for securing that information.
Security standards provide protection over electronic protected health information.

As a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Senator Edwards worked tirelessly for a strong
national defense, and strengthening the security of our homeland. He authored key pieces of
legislation on Internet and port security, as well as biological terrorism. During the latter part of 2001

In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t
respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been
exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the
Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of
the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras
in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to
spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment
events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people
and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially
Mexican Americans, like me.
I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father,
a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact
that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was able to run a
successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic
concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The
combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until
it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border.
The drug war exploded and Cd. Juarez had become famous as one of the most dangerous cities. The
streets were filled with violence and a numerous amount of people were

Progressive Reformers Essay example

Progressive Reformers
The Progressive movement has had a tremendous impact on society and preserving the doctrine of a
democratic nation. The Progressive Era, which initiated between the years 1890 through 1920, was
instituted because progressives who wanted to rid politics of corruption and inefficiency. Progressives
wanted to curtail the power of the business trusts, and protect the general welfare of the public. The
Progressive name derived from forward thinking or progressive goals that its supporters sought to
advance.
John Dewey, who is known as the father of Progressive education, has been most influential in
Educational Progressivism. His vision for schools tied to a larger vision, leading towards a good
society. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states that progressive education has recognized the fundamental importance of the interest of the
learner; it has defended the thesis that activity lies at the root of all true education; it has conceived
learning in terms of life situations and growth of character; it has championed the rights of the child as
a free personality .
Child centered educational practices are shared by progressive educators. The pedagogical method is
object teaching. The teacher begins with an object related to the child s world in order to initiate the
child into the world of the educator. The focus is on thinking and doing. Problem solving skills are
required to overcome obstacles between a given and desired set of circumstances. Education is not
simply a means to a future life, but instead it represents a life to the fullest.
Progressive educators view existing schools as being formal, not focusing on real life situations, and
strict. They prefer variety in classroom preparations and informal interaction between the teacher and
their student. Progressives prefer schools teach useful subjects (including occupations) and emphasize
learning by doing rather than instruction purely from textbooks. This brought about schools such as
trade and vocational schools. The student was placed at the center of thinking, teach the child not the
subject.
John Dewey s model of learning is to: become aware of the problem, define the problem, propose
hypotheses to

Summary Of Working With Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence and its Application to Nursing Practice Emotional intelligence is your ability to
recognize and understand emotions in yourself and others, and your ability to use this awareness to
manage your behavior and relationships (Bradberry Jean, 2009). Emotional intelligence was
developed in 1990 and its popularity has grown in the 21st century (Marquis Hutson, 2015). The book
Emotional Intelligence 2.0 outlines four different skills that a person must improve on to increase their
emotional intelligence and the book Working with Emotional Intelligence identifies five different
components of emotional intelligence. Some of the skills from one book and the components of the
other book overlap; however, both of the books bring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Integrating self awareness into my nursing care will allow me to provide comprehensive, holistic care
to my patients. Being able to perceive my own emotions and the emotions of the people around me
will help me engage more with my patients so that I can better care for them. Self managing these
emotions will allow me to consciously direct emotional situations to better outcomes. I will also be
able to use social awareness and relationship management in my nursing practice to help develop
relationships with my patients. Having a trusting relationship with patients is a vital role as a nurse.
After reading and reviewing all of the emotional intelligence skill building strategies I have been able

  • 2. Neither one ever worked. A major factor determining whether someone will end up living in poverty, education or skill level can make or break an income. Education plays a vital role in acquiring jobs, learning new skills, and bringing home necessities and comforts of life. Dependent on who one listens to, one may consider a different start time. Perhaps it all started in England, under Edward III, with the Statute of Laborers, enacted in 1349 or with the work ethic in 1571 with Martin Luther. Regardless we have had organized attempts to rid ourselves to poverty for many years, and, we have been at it a very long way to go. More recent causes not necessarily related to money already in hand have been categorized as follows: inadequate education or skills, poor motivation to work and other negative attitudes or skills, inability to form stable families, proliferation of low wage, low skilled jobs, poor schools and inadequate investment in training and skill formation, lack of access to higher education, residential segregation, discrimination in labor, credit, and housing markets. Of these listed, two deal with discrimination (7 and 8), two with jobs (2 and 4) and four with education (1, 2, 5, and 6), and one with families (3). Society has been dealing with discrimination for decades (Amadeo, Kimberly) with the first big push away from it by President Johnson in the 60 s. In spite of pressure from Russia, in 2014 Ukrainian policymakers passed a legislation that empowered universities with more autonomy with their curriculum, finances and hiring practices. • 5. Discuss the Significance of Father Figures in Frankenstein Discuss the significance of father figures in Frankenstein Frankenstein is a story of science gone dreadfully amiss. Shelley offers depth and meaning to Frankenstein by presenting (sometimes covertly so) insinuations of failed father and son relationships littered throughout the story. The most obvious relationship in this story is that between Victor Frankenstein and his monster, however, there are other characters in the story that present themselves as father figures. In this essay, I will endeavour to discuss not only the significance of the familial relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creature, but that of Victor and Alphonso Frankenstein, Henry Clerval and his father amongst others. Compassion and obligation urges Victor to sympathise with the creature and even render him happy like a father should a son; although even so, he makes no attempt to satisfy the monster s needs (Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20). Victor can understand the feelings of compassion or fatherly care that stir within him but he is unable to sustain those feelings of concern: I compassionated him, and sometimes felt a wish to console him; but when I looked upon him my feelings were altered to those of horror and hatred (p.121). He continues to fail his creature, swearing him into exile, then creating another like him before destroying it (and thus any chance of happiness for the creature), and then hunting him down. Victor is never able to perceive the monster s tormented psyche leading to his exclamation Let the cursed and hellish monster drink deep of agony; let him feel the despair that now torments me (p.172). The irony is Victor s creation already feels this, but Victor s anger and lack of insight causes him to oversee it (Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20). • 7. Society s Impact On Wealth And Elite Social Status Increase in wealth during the post agriculture period impacted elite social status greatly. Elite social status was a great deal to the wealth people in this era. They would do everything in their power to ensure that their social status was unharmed. The wealth made the wealthier individual s feel higher and separated from the common people. The increase in wealth allowed room for elite to make rules that were to be governed in sexual relationships. It was so important to pass on the elite social status and wealth that it became codified as written laws for the elite. Wealth impacted the elite because it controlled who they could marry in order to pass on the social status. The most acceptable form of a relationship that would form into a marriage in an elite social status would be a relationship between a man and a woman, both coming from elite families. The wealth would then be able to be passed down, which exemplifies the impact wealth had on the elite social status. Elite men that formed relationships with a non elite woman would only be viewed her as a mistress for sexual pleasure. A elite woman and a non elite man would cause shame to be brought upon her family and the man could possibly be murdered for his actions. There were exceptions where a wealth family would adopt non elite males and raise them to be elite. In short, Frost believed duplicity or duplicitous interpretations should be drawn out of the reader with the help of the author through the medium of poetic form which, to him, paradoxically eliminates the author s influence on the reader. • 10. Summary of the Ballet quot;Giselle quot; Essays Giselle is a romantic ballet choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Adolphe Adam beautifully composes the music. This ballet was originally performed in Paris in 1841. The production that we viewed in class was from La Salla. Giselle is one of the last ballets of the Romantic era. The element that stood out the most to me was how effectively the music and the footwork corresponded. The best examples of this are seen through the dancers solos. Especially Albrecht s solo, his feet glide on the stage at the same tempo as the music. Similarly, Giselle s graceful footwork is truly amazing. I also enjoyed the mixture of solo dancing in comparison with the peasant dancing in the first act. I thought the two coincided very well. Additionally, the choreographer, made excellent use of the stage space. There was a good variation of movement across the stage, without unnecessary distraction. Furthermore, in Giselle the viewer notices are the difference in costumes, compared with today s more contemporary ballets. Giselle is dressed as a girl, not like a typical ballerina. The length of her skirt is very long, but stops short enough for you to allow seeing her footwork. There is also a clear distinction among the high society and the peasants. When the peasants are dancing, their costumes are all in the same, more muted color hue, whereas when the high class is dancing or on stage they have noticeably ornate costumes. This is an important element to this ballet. It also makes this difference more easily distinguishable to those people who do not know the whole story line behind Giselle. There are two more very noticeable elements of Giselle , facial expression, and body movement. The facial expression throughout both acts is very noticeable. For example, in Act One, you can see by the way Giselle looks around; she is very shy and obedient to her mother. By watching her face, you see her batting her eyes at Albrecht and flirting with him in a very innocent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Impact Of Social Media On Social Movements Social Media in Social Movements The article How the Bundys social media machine fed their political movement by Lindsey Bever on The Washington Post discusses how social media was a driving force in the Bundys Occupation of the Oregon Wildlife Sanctuary (2016). The Bundys used social media to communicate with their followers and as a call to arms in times of need. In addition, they used social media to promote their cause, to support local ranching and lessen the government s possession of land. In the article, communications professor Phil Howard states, It s very difficult to have a modern political movement without a social media strategy to emphasize the influence of social media in social movements. After a lull in social media activity, the Bundys came back to protest the prosecution of Dwight and Steven Hammond, who were ranchers who committed acts of arson on public land in 2012 (Bever, 2016). This lead them to react and occupy a building on a wildlife sanctuary in Oregon. After a period of time, the F.B.I. stepped in to shut down the occupation of the wildlife sanctuary, this lead to the arrests of many members and the death of one, LaVoy Finicum. After Finicum was shot, his daughter used Facebook to confirm his death. Fearing a raid, later a man used Finicum s YouTube channel to also announce his death and make another call to arms. Achilles, once a figure of godlike power and bravery, now appears a very mortal figure suffering from the brutality of war. His fall from heroism to barbarism is no less tragic and no less horrid, but is much more understandable when viewed as a psychological phenomenon only recently identified by modern psychology. This understanding of Achilles also serves to bridge the cultural and temporal gaps between Homeric society and our own. The Iliad provides compelling evidence that PTSD is a cross cultural and cross temporal disorder which warriors have experienced since time immemorial. From Troy to Vietnam and beyond, soldiers have suffered trauma from combat which has in turn caused them to inflict violence on others, as well as on themselves. Achilles almost cuts his own throat in the opening lines of Book 18, and refuses to eat, drink or bathe for most of the rest of The Iliad. The definition of expectation is the act of expecting; to have a prospect of future good or profit . Parents often expect their kids to be perfect. By this I mean make all the right decisions, do everything the way the parents want it to be done, and live up to their parents standards. I don t always agree with a lot of today s parental expectations because some parents try to benefit themselves instead of the kids. In this essay, I will describe parental expectations from today and from the play Romeo and Juliet. I will link some of the examples of expectations to movies, or real life scenarios. ... Some parents that own companies expect their children to take over one day without ever asking the child s thoughts on the idea. An example of this situation is from the movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer . There is an elf named Hermey. Like all other elves in the North Pole, Hermey is expected to make toys for all the children around the world. There is one problem; Hermey doesn t want to make toys. Hermey wants to be a dentist. After hearing this, the head elf gets very angry at Hermey. Hermey is known as a misfit due to his choice and he later runs away to not have to make toys anymore and to learn more about being a dentist. It is important to always ask your children what they think of certain things and what they want in life instead of just expecting or assuming what they want without their consent. Acer should avoid high price tactics, or selling off their market share. By doing this, they would retain only a small percentage of the market. Acer currently does not have the capacity to capture a niche market based on the uniqueness of their products (University of Phoenix, 2011). Their customers are not willing to pay a much higher price for this new product. In general, most businesses tend to skew a penetration price too high in an attempt to make more money. Based on Acer s market, it would make sense to consider cost plus pricing; they would charge their prices explicitly with reference to average costs plus a percentage profit mark up. Predatory pricing and limit pricing would not be appropriate (McConnell Brue, 2004). Acer has a degree of control over its prices and a considerable amount of non price competitions exists, which ultimately leads to price discrimination (University of Phoenix, 2011). • 31. Symbolism In Through The Tunnel By Doris Lessing A part of maturing is finally doing things independently without the supervision from parents. In her short story, Through the Tunnel , Doris Lessing conveys the concept of maturing through becoming self sufficient. Lessing uses characterization and symbolism to show that being self reliant is a part of growing up. The symbolism of the color brown and the struggle of Jerry going through the tunnel represents the signs of maturity. Jerry describes the boys as having burned smooth dark brown skin. In Jerry s point of view, they are described as big boys, men, to Jerry . The two quotes associate the brown skin with being older and mature. In the time span between Jerry seeing the boys and Jerry and his mother leaving the beach, he trains himself to swim through the tunnel in order to be like the big boys. Jerry suffers through many hardships in order to pass through the tunnel and he does it all by himself without his mom or anyone to help him. Swimming through the tunnel is like the transition from an immature child to a sophisticated, young adult. After Jerry swims through the tunnel all by himself, it is said that his mother puts her hand on his warm brown shoulder . Describing Jerry s shoulder as brown shows that Jerry is now like the older boys. The symbolism of the brown skin emphasizes the maturity of Jerry, and the symbolism of the tunnel emphasizes that becoming a young adult is a journey one has to go through on his or her own and with a lot of struggling on the way. The effect of the symbolism illustrates that growing up will include some hard times, but it is worth it in the end because people know that they can do things on their own now. The characterization of Jerry illustrates the stages of maturing and becoming independent. In the beginning of the story, Jerry is depicted as young and immature. The immaturity of Jerry is shown when he is trying to capture the older boys attention. In order to capture their attention, he began splashing and kicking in the water like a foolish dog. This action conveys that Jerry is still immature, and wants to join the older kids. After seeing the boys pass through the tunnel, Jerry also wants to pass through in order to be a part of their group. In order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Madonna And Madonna Comparison The Madonna: a picturesque representation of Judeo Christian ideology s mother Mary and her young prophetical child, an infant Christ an innocent and thus, oppressive trope of renaissance art that echoes throughout art history as subject matter for masters from Byzantine proto renaissance, mannerist, and baroque, to contemporary artists alike. The Madonna was, just like nearly everything with religious epithets, a means of influencing followers. Being no exception, the Madonna represents something sinister. Despite the lamb wool white façade incumbent to its subject, the subjugation of women through assigning their role as conclusively maternal and depriving them of their sexuality. The Madonna facilitates the mentality that women are merely complementary means to men that are solely meant to execute the role of maternal figures. Two grossly contrasting works accentuate a critical contemporary perspective on the evolution of feminine roles from early Christian ideologies. Jan Van Eyck s 1436 painting, Lucca Madonna, and Catherine Opie s 2004 photograph, Self Portrait Nursing, exercise formal elements to criticize the sociocultural value of women from early 15th century Europe from a contemporary view. The representation of Jesus on His mother s arms led to family representations that demonstrated childhood characteristics. However, a more realistic and sentimental childhood representation revolved around Jesus until the fourteenth century when the Italian art helped to develop and spread an ideal childhood representation. The gothic period produced yet another type of childhood representation. This period saw the representation of a naked child. The previous representation seldom represented a naked child, except in cases of innocence and death. The allegory of death and soul introduced child nudity in the medieval period. His unique ideas and various poetic devices that were included in his poetry induced him to be one of the most remembered poets of modern day time. E.E. Cummings was an intriguing poet that is known for many poetic ideas. Among them, Cummings was known for his ability to create meaning using structure and his avant garde approach towards language. In his work, Cummings experimented radically with form, punctuation, spelling and syntax, which caused him to abandon traditional techniques and structures to create a new, highly distinctive mean of poetic expression. By introducing this new innovative writing style, Cummings has influenced thousands of poets to carry on with his expression, which is what he had hoped for. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and understand the environment from two different perspectives. In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially Mexican Americans, like me. I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border.
