Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?
Through all of the research I have carried out in previous tasks and preliminary tasks, I
believe that Egmont will be company most suited to distribute my magazine. Although they
publish for the BBC, they also publish we love pop. Egmont would be able to distribute my
music magazine because they have a large audience and are well known through the media
industry. Egmont also publish children's books and so know how to target a similar aged
audience, this will give my magazine and increased chance of success. Egmont publish for
the BBC who also create and distribute the
top of the pops magazine which is very
popular, this demonstrates that they would be
able to distribute my magazine as well as
they are experienced, this would give my
media product an extra boost when initially
released. Although my magazine follows a
similar layout to the top of the pops
magazine, I have included my own unique
features to differentiate the magazines further
and have given them its own unique selling point, this is why Egmont would distribute my
music magazine. Due to the research I have undergone, I have created a mission statement
that will inform the Egmont's media institution of the aims that pop party has and how they
will achieve them through their distribution.
Egmont are the UK’s leading publisher for media products targeted at individuals under the
age of 18. Founded in 1878, 139 years ago in Denmark, they distribute magazines that sell
over a million copies a month, for example we love pop, toxic and go girl. The benefits of
having Egmont publish my magazine would be the size of their company and the experience
they have with the target audience. Selling books and magazines to the same target
audience allows them to know what works inside with the content and what the individuals
buying the magazine like to see. Having such a big name
ensures a higher level of trust and loyalty from the public as
they will know many of the items they produce. Having this
experience also will allow them to have more links to setting
up more media platforms for my magazine, this is due to the
paper copies struggling more these days due to the internet.
A large company such as Egmont will be able to use its
money to promote the magazine on other
platforms and brands, and the company's
popularity and the big names they
produce will encourage promoters to by
slots in their magazine. Having a young
TA will also benefit the Egmont as they
will want to access the magazines on
more platforms such as the internet and
so will get them good publicity and will allow them to make more money.
Potential challenges of using Egmont as an institution to distribute my magazine will be the
limited control they will allow you to have over the magazine. They will want to have control
over designs and promotion which may not be the way our magazine will like to do things.
