Online Social Shopping Motivation: A Preliminary Study
Question 3 Evaluation
1. What kind of media institute might
distribute your media product and
why?
2. Bauer Media
When looking into all of the possible distribution companies for my
product I came across Bauer media. If we were to create our
magazine and distribute it we would have more of a niche audience
due to the genre we are portraying. Rock music has a much smaller
audience in comparison to Pop or R&B therefore meaning that
companies are reluctant to distribute magazines of this genre on a
mass scale, however Bauer, being a hugely successful company,
already distributes a similar magazine KERRANG, this therefore led
me to consider them more so than others and led me to my final
decision that they would be the best company. As well as being
successful in distributing our product it would also give us a larger
budget in which to work from, allowing us to gain better quality in
all aesthetic aspects of our product. We would be able to use higher
quality equipment and gain better editing techniques therefore
allowing me to develop the product further overall. All of this
combined leads to a greater profit benefiting Bauer as well as us.
3. Web 2.0/ Internet
Another way to distribute my magazine would be to put it on the
internet, this would open up a range of different technological
advances. Firstly I could create a website with the newest
edition, this would allow the target audience to access the
magazine more easily without having to necessarily go and buy it,
if I set up a membership online then they would be paying for the
contents through this mention as opposed to buying a physical
hard copy of the magazine. As well as this I could create an app,
by doping this I am aiming more at my target audience. Many
people today have an Iphone, IPad, Android or such like device
that contains apps therefore by creating one for my magazine will
be extending the magazines availability and further improving
the distribution of it.
4. Traditional methods
A more traditional method that I must not forget is to sell my
magazine as a hard copy in general stores. After researching the
types of stores that distribute existing magazines in this genre I
came to the conclusion that big super markets such as ASDA and
Tesco would work well. Everyone needs to go to the supermarket
therefore my magazine would be exposed to a range of different
types of people and therefore allow it to get an even wider
audience. As well as this I would sell it in stores such as
WHSmith, this is a key store due to its extended range of
magazines already on sale. People make associations with this
store and magazines therefore by selling it in this type of
establishment I am able to expose it further to again a wider
audience.
