2. I would choose to distribute my music magazine through Bauer Media
Group for many reasons.
Firstly, the main reason would be because it is a worldwide media
empire as it offers over 300 magazines in 15 countries. This is a
good advantage because it shows that there is a big wide audience
from the magazines they distribute. This means that my magazine
would have a huge audience to target from, and then hopefully if it
appeals to the audience it will make the magazine become well
known.
One music magazine they distribute is Q, Bauer’s official website
states it’s the “biggest selling music monthly magazine…” this shows
the popularity Q has. This could mean that if I distributed my
magazine with Bauer my magazine could end up being this popular.
3. I also chose Bauer because they distribute magazines online, TV and
radio stations. Having a multi-platform feature is another advantage as
my audience would probably prefer to access my magazine through the
internet as they rely a lot on technology. For example Bauer distributes
Kerrang on two platforms:
magazine and radio.
I could gain a larger
audience if my
magazine was a radio
station as well because
not everyone buys
magazines.
Finally, Bauer has many genres of magazines but not many magazines
with the same genre as my music magazine, this means that my
magazine would fit in perfectly as I wouldn’t be targeting a similar
audience who already has a collection of magazines to choose from.
4. I decided not to choose Time Inc. UK as my distributor because this company
is only based in the United Kingdom and I would like my magazine to be
known worldwide because there is more of a chance of it gaining a bigger
audience.
Time Inc. UK is still a good distributor, as it distributes Uncut and NME. And
both distributors have a gap in the market for my genre of music.
However, Bauer would be a better company because it is worldwide. My
magazine also features a range of artists who aren’t just English and so it
would appeal to other people in further countries because of the different
culture aspect.
