6. Distribution
Once the magazine is fully completed it will need to be distributed
through a distribution company. The companies will try and distribute
the magazine so it reaches the target audience, whether that be
through specific music stores or in a general supermarket depending on
the target audience.
8. With there being many different media institutions I feel it is important
to pick a distributer that has a good reputation with my target audience
of teenagers and young adults. Two distributers I would specifically
look at are TimeInc and Bauer as they both distribute magazines that
are targeted at the same audience as my magazine.
9. TimeInc
TimeInc would be a good choice of distributer as they distribute
magazines such as NME that are targeted more towards young people
so they will be more experienced with distributing to my audience. Also
the readers of NME might want to read my magazine so it can be
advertised in their magazine. NME is the only music magazine with a
younger target audience that TimeInc distribute so it would also be a
good choice for TimeInc to distribute my product as there is a gap in
the market for it.
10. Bauer
Bauer would also be a good choice to distribute my magazine as they
have distributed well known magazines such as Kerrang! And Q.
Although these magazines are not the same genre of magazine I have
made, Bauer also distribute radio and online music channels which
target my audience such as The Box and Kiss. As there is a gap in the
market for my magazine with Bauer and they have good experience in
distributing magazines and reaching a young audience through other
media platforms I fell like this would be a good choice to distribute my
magazine
11. How would my magazine be advertised
Lots of my advertisement will be online through social media such as Facebook and Twitter as many
young adults and teenagers use these platforms on a daily basis. As well as general advertising of
the magazine on social media, there can be news updates and previews of the next magazine on
social media which will keep the audience engaged with the magazine even when they aren’t
physically reading it. My magazine would reach a wider audience on social media as people can
share posts and pages on Facebook and Twitter so all their friends can see it and if they like it then it
will be shared again to a larger audience. Another form of advertising would be on billboards, this is
good as it reaches a large audience in a built up city and it isn’t really expensive. A similar way of
advertising would be on the side of busses, just like the billboards this would reach a large audience
in built up cities. A more expensive form of advertising is on TV adverts, this is a good idea as lots of
people in my target audience watch a lot of TV. If I was to distribute my product with Bauer then
they can advertise my magazine on their music channels as they are watched by the same age of
people that my magazine is targeted at. If I was to advertise my magazine on TV adverts I would
advertise it on reality TV shows such as Geordie Shore and similar shows as it is typically teenagers
and young adults that watch them types of shows.
13. Final Choice
I have decided that Bauer would be the best distributer for my media
product as they have a good knowledge of distributing magazines and
reaching my target audience of young adults through different forms of
media. There is also a gap in the market for Bauer to distribute my
magazine as they don’t distribute any dance music magazines.
