What kind of media institution might distribute your
media product and why?
Time Inc. UK
Time Inc UK is a incredibly successful magazine
publishing company that was founded in 1968.
Magazines they publish include NME. As well as
music magazines, their publications also include
lifestyle magazines such as Country Life. They also
publish Decanter, a magazine that discusses wines
and spirits. Despite the company’s success, I think
that my magazine wouldn’t suit being published by
Time Inc. UK, this is because their general audience
reaches 45 year olds, whereas my magazine is
targeted to 16-25 year olds.
Wenner Media
Wenner Media publishes magazines such as music
magazines, pop culture and entertainment.
Examples of these can include Rolling Stone, US
Weekly and Men’s Journal. This company could
possibly publish my magazine as there isn’t a
magazine that this company publishes that focuses
on just the pop genre. This means there will be no
competition within the company for my magazine to
sell against. However, the negative side to this
company is that it is a private company, and
therefore it would be harder to get the attention I
need to successfully sell my magazine.
Egmont
Egmont, founded in 1878, is a publishing company
that predominantly targets their magazines at quite a
young audience. Some of their magazines include
Go Girl, and We Love Pop, which are both aimed at
girls, and Toxic which is aimed at boys. This would
not be a suitable institution for my magazine as the
age range is too low compared to my target
audiencr, and my magazine may to be too mature
for the usual Egmont readers.
Distribution Techniques
It is important that I consider different distribution
techniques when I come to selling my magazines so
that I am aware of all of all of the different options
there so it will be easier to make decisions.
The most common way of distributing magazines is
in shops. This can include supermarkets,
newsagents/corner shops etc – so people have easy
access to purchasing products. This would definitely
be an effective distribution technique as I think it
would help my magazine sell as it will attract buyers
attention as they shop.
Distribution Techniques
Another way I could sell my magazine is online. I
think this would be a very effective way to distribute
my magazine as the number of people reading
magazines via the internet is rising. It will also be
very popular within my target audience as 16-25
year olds are very active on social media. My
magazine could have a website, or even an app that
allows my readers to have access to the magazine.
I could promote my magazine by crating accounts
on social media and advertising new articles and
giving followers updates with the magazine, and
giving them sneak peaks.
Distribution Techniques
I also think it would be a good idea to distribute my
magazine in colleges and universities. When I
carried out my survey, I discovered the majority of
my audience are students. This means that by
putting my magazine in colleges and universities it
will reach the target audience of my magazine, and it
will catch their eye. It is also better because not
many magazines are distributed in educational
places.

  • 2. Time Inc. UK Time Inc UK is a incredibly successful magazine publishing company that was founded in 1968. Magazines they publish include NME. As well as music magazines, their publications also include lifestyle magazines such as Country Life. They also publish Decanter, a magazine that discusses wines and spirits. Despite the company’s success, I think that my magazine wouldn’t suit being published by Time Inc. UK, this is because their general audience reaches 45 year olds, whereas my magazine is targeted to 16-25 year olds.
  • 3. Wenner Media Wenner Media publishes magazines such as music magazines, pop culture and entertainment. Examples of these can include Rolling Stone, US Weekly and Men’s Journal. This company could possibly publish my magazine as there isn’t a magazine that this company publishes that focuses on just the pop genre. This means there will be no competition within the company for my magazine to sell against. However, the negative side to this company is that it is a private company, and therefore it would be harder to get the attention I need to successfully sell my magazine.
  • 4. Egmont Egmont, founded in 1878, is a publishing company that predominantly targets their magazines at quite a young audience. Some of their magazines include Go Girl, and We Love Pop, which are both aimed at girls, and Toxic which is aimed at boys. This would not be a suitable institution for my magazine as the age range is too low compared to my target audiencr, and my magazine may to be too mature for the usual Egmont readers.

Distribution Techniques It is important that I consider different distribution techniques when I come to selling my magazines so that I am aware of all of all of the different options there so it will be easier to make decisions. The most common way of distributing magazines is in shops. This can include supermarkets, newsagents/corner shops etc – so people have easy access to purchasing products. This would definitely be an effective distribution technique as I think it would help my magazine sell as it will attract buyers attention as they shop.
  • 6. Distribution Techniques Another way I could sell my magazine is online. I think this would be a very effective way to distribute my magazine as the number of people reading magazines via the internet is rising. It will also be very popular within my target audience as 16-25 year olds are very active on social media. My magazine could have a website, or even an app that allows my readers to have access to the magazine. I could promote my magazine by crating accounts on social media and advertising new articles and giving followers updates with the magazine, and giving them sneak peaks.
  • 7. Distribution Techniques I also think it would be a good idea to distribute my magazine in colleges and universities. When I carried out my survey, I discovered the majority of my audience are students. This means that by putting my magazine in colleges and universities it will reach the target audience of my magazine, and it will catch their eye. It is also better because not many magazines are distributed in educational places.
