Bauer Media would be the best publisher for the student's jazz magazine due to Bauer's existing music magazines that target a slightly younger audience than their main demographic. While Bauer does not currently publish a jazz magazine, their magazines have an online and social media presence fitting for the student's target audience. Future Publishing could also be a suitable option due to their smaller music magazine selection that could provide a market gap, but Bauer is considered the best choice overall. Through researching different publishers, the student learned about important details to match their product and gained skills in magazine creation, editing, photography, and industry terminology.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2. I first started by researching Bauer media, I found that Bauer
have a wide range of magazines and publish a magazine called
Q which shares some of the same characteristics of my
magazine’s target audience however, they aren’t very similar in
age .Q targets an audience of 30-40 I would be targeting a
more younger generation of 15-19. Bauer do not publish a
Jazz genre of magazine , therefore Bauer may think about
publishing one because it is a product they have not sold yet.
Bauer have a wide range of social media for their magazines
which would work well for my product due to the range of
social media it would be available on . I think Bauer would be a
good company to Publish my magazine with due to the
popularities and the well known brand image of some of their
magazines available.
Bauer Media
3. Upon reflection I believe Bauer will still be suitable to publish my magazine due to the
genre of music magazines they have and the social media they have for their
magazines.
4. Future While researching Future I found they only have a small
range of music magazines available , these brands include
: Bass ; guitarists; Acoustic and blues . Some more are
available but from the publishing companies I have
researched they have a smaller variety of products
available . This works well because this gives a gap in the
market for my product. They also have a range of
technology and apps which would be good for my
magazine. They don’t have a jazz magazine however ,
blues could be classed as very similar due to this I don’t
think they would sell my magazine however, it would be a
good company to . It also doesn’t have many magazines
that are aimed to my target audience and age range,
which again would create a gap in the market for my
magazine however, with products similar eg. Blues and
acoustic I don’t think this company would be a good
choice to publish my magazine.
5. TimeInc UK
Time has 60 brands available ,I found out it doesn't
have many music magazines which could
encourage them to publish my product . It has
music magazines such as uncut and NME. While
researching these magazines I found that NME has
a wide variety of music which it looks at which
could prove a problem while wanting to publish
my product with them , NME however, does tend
to look at more mainstream music which works
well in my magazine favour because of the genre
of jazz . NME also has a wide target audience
however, I think they concentrate on the younger
generation which will also prove a problem with my
target audience being so young.
6. While looking at uncut I found the age range was
more for an older generation and that it was a more
classic rock magazine. I also found Time has social
media for the magazines they publish which meets
the needs of my magazine because of the social
media that my product will have . It also meets the
needs of my target audience because of the age
range . I do think Time would be good to publish my
magazine because they don’t have many music
magazines that they publish and mine is different to
the ones they do . It would allow them to gain more
of younger audience which would also benefit them
and would allow them to have more of a range .
However, only having 2 music magazines may prove
a problem because of the wide range of NME
however, I think this wont have much impact on my
magazine.
7. Anthem Publishing
Anthem Publishing seemed to base their magazines on
an older generation of audience this would create a
chance for them to think of reaching out to younger
people such as my target audience . They don’t have
any magazines that are the same genre of magazine as
mine however, they do have some music magazines
with the same content, all the magazines seem to have
some form of social media platform and subscription is
available which meets the needs of my magazine . The
readers of the magazines they publish are mostly brand
loyal which is what I want the readers of my magazine
to be .The brands of music magazines they have are
country music , vintage rock and classic pop. They all
seem to stick to an old genre of music like my magazine
jazz I think my magazine would fit in however , I think
with the generation the other magazines are aimed at it
stands out which my convince them to publish my
magazine. I think the availability of the magazine
matters and it will be able to be sold by this company.
8. My audience profile :
My main target audience are aspires and Tribe Wired. People who would buy the magazine for
personal identity and entertainment. This means my magazine and publishing company will
have to be able to give advice and allow ways for the magazine to show how to make
improvements , a Publishing company which also publishes life style magazines would be good
to help meet the needs and help gain new readers. The magazine will have to be able available
on social media because it targets digital and creative individuals this means the publishing
company more for young individuals who knows the wants of these generation would be good
to publish it , like Bauer.
9. Conclusion based on research
In conclusion based on my research I have come to the opinion that Bauer media would be the most
suited to publish my magazine. The age range would work well for bauer because it targets people
abit younger then they already do. Bauer’s magazines are mostly online and have some form of social
media which my magazine will have . Bauer have a select range of music magazines which are fairly
modern which would create a gap for my magazine because they don’t publish a jazz magazine. My
magazine is different to other jazz magazines also , this is because of the young type of audience I
want to have . The jazz magazine that are around are mostly for older generations and don’t have the
content my magazine has. I also think Future would be a good second choice however, in my opinion
Bauer is the best option.
10. What I have learned?
I have learned about different publishing companies that would publish my magazine,
I have also learned the importance of the product details . Since the premlimary task I
have learned many skills such as how to make and edit my magazine and images in
Photoshop I have also learned key skills and words . I have developed my
photography and language skills throughout the task.
