The document also examines how the magazine represents its target audience of 15-24 year olds interested in indie music, as well as both male and female readers equally. Finally, it discusses choosing IPC Media as the distributor due to their experience with a similar magazine, NME.

It discusses how conventions from existing magazines were followed, such as using studio photography, minimalist designs, and consistent color schemes. Social media links and free posters were included to attract the target audience of 15-24 year olds. Technologies like Photoshop, InDesign, and surveys were used at different stages of design and research. The final product showed improvements over preliminary work through more sophisticated designs and informed research on audiences and conventions.
The document discusses a music magazine created to represent females and attract both female and male audiences. Young female models are used to appeal to the target demographic of young adults aged 15-30. The magazine focuses primarily on representing females through articles and images to interest both male and female readers who are fans of rock music.
The document discusses ways in which the author's media product (a magazine called FeedBack) uses, develops, or challenges conventions of real media products. Specifically, the magazine goes against conventions used by other magazines in its coloring on the front cover and layout of the contents page. It also challenges conventions by varying coloring between pages rather than keeping a consistent scheme. The author aims to connect more with audiences and have a more unique identity compared to magazines like NME that are strongly associated with their branding colors. The double-page spread follows some conventions like including an image, text, and titles but challenges conventions through its faded text box and limited paragraphs. Overall, the author seeks to both follow and develop new conventions to make the magazine stand
This document contains an evaluation of a music magazine product. It discusses the target audience which is males aged 15-35 interested in hip hop/rap music. It outlines how the magazine would attract this audience through the design of the front cover using images of male rappers, relevant genres and ages. It represents the black community through the choice of images and genres featured. The magazine challenges conventions through comparisons with similar magazines. It would likely be distributed through music retailers and its own mobile app. The creator learned about improving front covers, photo selection and layout through this process compared to an earlier school magazine.
My magazine challenges conventions of other music magazines by using bright colors in the masthead and cover lines instead of advertisements. It represents teenagers aged 16-19 by featuring artists that appeal to this audience and portray them in a positive light. The magazine would be distributed by Rewind Creative Media as they promote similar UK artists and have successfully targeted the same audience in the past.
AS Media Studies: Music Magazine EvaluationSarah Green
Sarah Green created a magazine that follows conventions of the genre such as consistent fonts, colors and layout. She used blues and blacks for the color palette with orange and brown accents on the cover to make them stand out. The main feature is the band "Every Third Thursday" but she included other artists to avoid giving the impression it's only about one band. Sarah learned various technologies in creating her magazine such as Photoshop, Scribd, Blogger, PowerPoint, YouTube and iMovie. She would want Rock Sound LTD to publish her magazine as they have a similar focus on rock music and underground bands.
The document is a media evaluation of a student's music magazine project. The summary analyzes how the magazine uses and challenges conventions of the genre. It represents male urban artists through images and language. The target audience is males aged 16-25 interested in urban music. Technologies like Photoshop and various software were used to construct the magazine. The student learned new skills and improved their ability to meet conventions and audience needs from their preliminary project.
The document discusses the creation of a new music magazine targeting females aged 15-25. The magazine focuses on indie music to attract this target audience as well as some male readers. Photos were taken and edited in Photoshop for layout in InDesign. Through the process, the author learned photography and design skills but also encountered technical challenges.
The magazine aims to represent 16-25 year olds interested in indie and rock music. It uses conventions from real magazines like NME, such as featuring artists on the cover, but also challenges conventions by using original photography. The target audience would enjoy reading about music festivals, fashion, and new artists. The magazine would be distributed by IPC Media and sold in stores like WHSmith, HMV, and corner shops to be convenient for its target audience.

MODULE ONE PRPC19 Design of Machine Elements- 1 .pdf
Evaluation.docx
1. 1) Question one) in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products ?
A) Before i started my design of my magazine i did extensive research into magazines of the
same genre and of publication companies of today. I did this to make sure i had a full
understanding of media conventions and of what an audience would want for my genre of
music. One of the two biggest magazines that help me in the design of my product is kerrang
magazine. In my research i used mostly kerrang magazine to analysis this is not only because i
believe the design is one i should take influence from. But it is one of the biggest magazine of
the rock genre, but if i want my magazine to be successful taking influence from them would
help me succeed. The audience of my magazine and the audience of kerrang are of the same
age and gender. As i have looked at a lot of magazines from kerrang it has helped me
understand what sells to my target audience. It has also helped me understand what language
and style i should use. The design of the kerrang is very different to other magazines of the
same genre, it has a ripped and damaged style which is very appealing to my audience.
Because of this i want to use elements of the ripped and damaged effects in my work to
hopefully make my magazine as appealing to my target audience and also make my magazine
as successful. As i was looking through the kerrang magazine i was looking at the content page
of them and the layout not only does it displays the information in a way in which the audience
can easily read but attracts them in with a genre correct colour palette. Because of this in my
contents page i have used a similar layout of the page information and the sub headings, i have
done this to make sure my audience can find pages and information as easily as possible.i
further developed this by placing my own unique design/content to ensure my magazine was
different from everyone else and importantly stud out. When looking at my double page spread i
have created two to have a more unique creative layout than other magazines of my genre.
When looking at my reasearch i haven't seen any other magazines of my genre do this now this
could have been risky but at the end i looked appealing to the eye and my target audience and
this is important to ensure my magazine success i have challenged the conventions of my genre
but it overall works. When looking at both pages i have used a design which looks genre
specific but also different so as not to blend into the crowd but also show my audience that this
is the right genre they are a fan off. Both pages follow the conventions of my genre as it has
strong images of model to help show an overall emotion of standing out and “punk” this can bee
seen in many different magazines of the same genre. I further developed this by having unique
colours and layout to make sure my magazine is unique.
2)Question two) how does your media product represent particular social group
A)When i was creating my magazine i had to pick a genre of music and build and style my
magazine to appeal to that audience, i have done many things when creating my magazine to
not only appeal to my audience but to represent. My audience for my magazine is fans of the
genre rock/metal/punk and all sub genres between the ages of 15 to 20 and of both genders.
One of the first elements i used to represent my audience was the colour scheme, to ensure my
colour scheme was correct i looked at similar magazines of the same genre and stereotypical
colours which are normally associated with my audience and cross referenced to get the correct
colours for my audience. The colours which came out of my research was blacks and dark
colours such as green, red, blue and purple, because of this i choose from these colours and
2. applied them to my layout of my magazine and looked for which looked best with my overall
house style. In the end i went with black, purple and yellow as they look very appealing to the
eye and this is important to help attract my target audience and my possible audience this is
people who i haven't designed my work to appeal to but i may attract to come and buy my
magazine. I also choose this colours to look genre specific and also to represent the culture of
people who follow or a fan of my genre. The next thing i used in my magazine to represent my
audience is the over content on the front page this is content which is related to the genre of my
magazine and thus represent my audience. The forefront of this content is the bands and tour
information which is present throughout my magazine but mostly on my front cover, these bands
are all from my chosen genre and will not only represent my audience but attract them. The tour
information present in my magazine is all from well known tour owners or companies which are
well established in my genre and audiences this helps to pull my audience in for the latest info
but it also shows them the genre straight away on the front cover. All of this is compained on
my magazine to ensure that my target audience and possible audience know what genre my
magazine is straight away and also to ensure that it looks the part for my correct genre and my
target audience to ensure it success. A)When i was making my magazine i decided I would
target it towards teens between the ages of 13 to 19 who love the rock genre. These people are
normally classified as goth or emo and in some cases scene (a sub-genre of the group), They
are also stereotyped as wearing black and are quite loners. my magazine will represent this
social group. But although this group is my main audience i have tried to make my magazine
open to others such as people who have interested in the rock genre but do not fit into these
groups. Because of this i have made sure Broken glass has only looked at bands which people
from these groups would like. To find music this group would like i did research into the new
bands on the scene and the most popular on the scene and then to check my research i
compared the bands to the ones i personally listen to and bands people i know from this group
of people like. This gave me a great understanding of what would work and would interested
people and which would not. When i had made sure my publication had the correct look and
followed the correct bands for the genre i looked over the full design and made sure is represent
the social group i was aiming for. To do this i had taken a copy of my front cover of the first
issue and ask people i knew ‘’what group of people do you think this magazine is made for?’’.
From everyone i asked (10 people) all said the correct group or the sub genre i have mentioned
earlier. This not only showed me that i had correctly made the publication for the group of
people i was aiming for but that i knew it would attract that group to buy my product.
3)Question three)I would like my magazine to be published by Bauer Media Group, this is
because not only do they already own one of the larges rock magazines to date (kerrang
magazine) but i believe that my magazine may flourish by a company that knows how to sell a
magazine of this genre. I also feel they would know what's best when it comes to how to make
my magazine more appealing to my reader as they already sell one of the largest rock
magazines to date and how to handle the business elements of owning a successful rock
magazine. Bauer is also a media company on many different media platforms such as online, tv,
radio and of course magazine. I believe this would give my magazine the best chance of
success being with a company which could correctly advertise my product but also could help
move my publication on to an online platform. The reason i would like to move my publication
3. onto a online platform is sale of magazine have dropped over the last couple of years as
everything has moved onto a online platform. To make sure my publication stays with the times i
would like to make sure it would be ready if i was willing to move it to an online media platform.
Another reason i would want my publication to be printed by bauer is they already make billions
per year for there other magazines and media platforms. So combining this with their
understanding of the market, cross platform integration and advertising. I believe they would be
the best option to make my magazine a success and give me a better understanding of media in
today's world
4)Question four)Who would be the audience for your media product?
A)all the information on my target audience was collected in the research phase of my creative
production from my online survey. my product will be aimed at an audience from the age of 15
to 20 who enjoy rock and sub-genre of rock. My publication would have no target gender as i
believe aiming my product at one gender not only affects sales but means i would have to edit
the design and colours i would have to use. such as instead of aiming to a audience of both
genders and who enjoy my genre of music i would have to pick more gender oriented colours
such as blue for boys and pink for girls, as this would have spilt my audience and revenue
stream i avoided it. This would not only make my task harder but it would make making a
publication for this genre extremely hard. If i was to aim my magazine at a male audience only i
would have to change my colours palette from red black and white to more male stereotype
colours such as blues and greens. This would not only lock of parts of my market but would
make it hard to sell to a new audience meaning i couldn't increase my revenue and also i
couldn't make them colours work with this genre of music. My publication will also be open to
everyone of all races and sexuality's i have done this to make sure my publication reaches the
most people it can to make sure i have to highest revenue stream i can. Because i am doing a
publication on rock and the subgenres of rock it means i have a smaller social group of people i
can sell my product to is a negative, but also has allowed me to make my publication more
open. This is because i will need to hit as many people as i can and make sure they come back
for the next issue. This is not an issue someone who is doing a publication for a more
mainstream genre of music such as pop and rap.
5)Question five) How did you attract/address your audience?
To attract my audience i use many different skill and techniques i have learned or researched. I
used these skills and techniques throughout my publication to make sure i have attracted my
audience as much as i possibly could. On my front page i used genre correct images and
colours to make sure people could identify what genre of music magazine it was. Also to make
sure i attracted my audience and made my publication genre correct i research fonts for my
magazine. In my research i looked at publications from the same genre and even fonts from
bands album covers to see what looked genre correct and which did not. Once i had an okay
understanding of what the font need to look like i went on to dafont.com. This website has a
huge range of fonts for all genres. I made sure when i was looking for the correct font that i was
taking my time and asking other while looking at my research to make sure i was picking a font
correctly. I put a lot of effort into the correct font because as it will be on my front cover and
throughout my magazine and it need to attract my audience as much as it could. When i had
4. finished my final design i checked it against other publications of the same genre it was genre
correct but also its own style as was not a clone of another publication. Not only did i make sure
my font was genre correct but i made sure my models were wearing clothing one would find in
this genre. This is normal dark clothes and band merch. I did this to makes sure my audience
knew my publication was for them and this would attract them to buy. I have address my
audience by adding contests in my publication and social media elements such as facebook fan
pages and twitter handles. This allows them to find information about my publication online and
be able to find out when the nexts issue is out and what it could contain. To increase how i
attract my audience i would move my publication online so i could also sell copies to my
audience online through marketplaces and other platforms. This would make it easier to get and
also may make the buyer want it more since it is easier to collect, they don't have to leave their
homes and also have it with them everywhere they go on there phones or tables.
6)Question six)What have you learnt about technologies from the process
When i started my course i had a basic understanding of photoshop and other image editing
software and mac computers. While i have made this publication i have increased my
knowledge and understand of these softwares and mac computers by 10 fold. I have also
learned how to correctly capture and image for a front cover, double page and contents page.
With this knowledge i have also learned the different micro terms of media such as long shot,
medium shot, close up, canted angle and many many more. Researching, designing and
making this publication not only has helped me understand media in today's world it has also
helped me understand how to correctly target my product and shape it for that audience. I have
also learned how to deeply analyze others works to make my own as successful and what
makes a magazine sell. One of the main things i have learned from making my publication is
how to sell to my audience, this has greatly helped me make my magazine stand out and be
more attractive to my audience. I have also learned how to use and create blogs on the site
blogger and how to use a whole range of other website such as wix and survey monkey. Before
i started my publication i had no understanding of these websites or how to use them. Now i can
correctly design a blog and create a survey for an audience, which both have came in great use
display my work and collect research for my publication. blogger was the framework of my
creative process i have learned to display all my work on online platform making it not online
easier to access my work wherever i am but also to show my creative journey. Without having a
full understand of this online media platform i wouldn't have been able to display how my
understanding of different forms of media has increased over my creative journey
7)Question seven)Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt
in the progression to the full product?
Looking back at my preliminary task i believe i have learned a lot about how to correctly design
a industry level magazine. My first task was so rough and bad compared to my finished product
it is hard to say they are both from the same person. The progress i have made over the time to
make this publication has helped my understand the media industry and magazine it has also
helped me with how to correctly market a product a audience. For instance the correct colour
with correct genre or social group fonts and house style. All this has helped me make a product
that i believe is to industry standard. This is shown by looking back at my first task before i had
5. learned anything about publications and media and then looking at my final piece at the end of
the course. I have a full understanding of how to design a magazine for a target audience but
using many different media conventions and genre conventions then sell the magazine to
ensure it is successful. I have also learned a lot about what sells and what doesn't to an
audience and what companies need to do and use to sell there product. For instance
companies need to use different forms of media to sell there product like online copies of their
magazine as well as physical copies. This allows them to sell more and also keep up with the
times and make sure there magazine is still selling. Overall i have learned how to research then
create a magazine using different forms of media then market and sell my product to an
audience and maximus my revenue stream.
