EVALUATION

Existing product Research
■ One of the strengths of my research is the variety of genres and
topics that the example fanzines gave. This helped my product by
giving me a broad sense about the topics and styles that I could
choose for mine.
■ Another strength is having clear headers marked out for my
research (Context, style, techniques and content), allowing me to
easily refer back to in any other segment of production.
■ A potential weakness of my research is that it doesn't go too in
depth out of the essential information. Which could be improved by
explaining in depth what the important attributes add to the existing
product, although it would probably have had a minimal impact on
my own product.
Audience Research
■ One strength of my Audience research is the survey
segment. This section helped my product greatly as I was
able to determine who my target audience were ,in terms of
gender and age, their knowledge of the topic; and what they
wanted the style of writing to be as well as their aesthetic
tastes. This collectively helped my project as it allowed me to
streamline and/ or eliminate any potential ideas.
■ However a weakness of my research is the first half looking
at the various demographics. There isn’t too much that
could’ve been done to improve this as there is literally no
statistical data for the audience of a film from 1954 either
from the time it was first released or now.
Planning
■ A potential strength of my planning is that I created a somewhat
loose and flexible framework for content and visuals. This helped
my content as I was able to know going in what was needed and if
anything needed to change it could be done without the entire plan
falling apart.
■ A weakness of my planning is the production schedule. Whilst it
works as a checklist; as far as schedule to follow though however
its rather shallow. I'm also not sure how great an impact this
would've had on my product in the end, as there was only 3 days of
actual, intended production.
Time Management
■ Personally I think my time was managed greatly. This is due
to the fact that all pre-production work (written content,
image gathering and editing ) was completed at home or in
spare college time. On top of this my work was also
completed on time however exporting and printing had to be
done the following week, despite this that time was given as
an extension to ‘fully’ complete the work.
■ If there was more time given for the project id probably only
be fine tuning and finely nit-picking through the pages,
maybe only moving text and images by a few millimetres.
Technical Qualities
Both have titles and a 2
column layout
Both are split with an art piece
taking up half the dps
My fanzine uses a drop capital on
every new paragraph as opposed
to the examples
My fanzine has a
larger font size
overall
My fanzine uses a
low opacity texture
as a background,
where as the
example keeps it
plain
Aesthetic Qualities
The backgrounds being a
faded grey rock material is
reflective of Godzilla's skin
and works as a strength.
Personally I think the
original artwork works
as a great strength to
the original look of the
fanzine and is creative
and memorable.
The heavily edited images
also add as an aesthetic
strength to the final piece.
Having the text wrap
around the images
makes both components
flow better when being
read
Audience Appeal
I’ve appealed to my target
audience by having a
minimalistic art style which
would appeal to the younger
audience of 17-20
As detailed in the
questionnaire, the
written content within
the fanzine is almost
entirely factual and
informative , which
reflects the 75% of
people that have not
seen the 1954 Godzilla

FEEDBACK
Feedback 1
■ What did you like about the product?
– I think the presentation was excellent, and that the appearance of the
fanzine was very professional. Every design and style choice linked nicely
with the film and its themes, from the colour choices, the page
backgrounds, the drawings and the font. The subject area was very
interesting too, you covered a lot of perhaps ‘unknown’ subject areas. It
looks very much like a film magazine that would be published and sold in
stores.
■ What improvements could have been made to the product?
– It might be useful to break up the text a bit more, with images or drawings
or taglines. This would help keep the focus on the article by incorporating
related imagery/text and also ensure your text doesn’t look too blocky.

Feedback 2
■ What did you like about the product?
– I think it was very interesting to read and I liked all the pictures throughout,
it was presented well and was easy to read and understand, even for a
person who knows nothing about the topic. The front cover especially is very
impressive
■ What improvements could have been made to the product?
– The only thing I can think of for improvement would be to maybe add
something on the back page in as well as the pattern, maybe some text or a
picture.
Feedback 3
■ What did you like about the product?
– I like the overall layout of the fanzine and I think that the colours that you
chose also fits well with your chosen theme. I also like the variety of
different images you've used to make the fanzine look more appealing and
creative, especially since you drew them yourself. The amount of
information you've included on each page is also good and informative but
there's not too much text that it would make the page look too crowded.
■ What improvements could have been made to the product?
– I don't think that there's anything that I would want to be
changed/improved since I think it fits well with the product of a
'fanzine' and shows clearly what the product is about.
Peer Feedback Summary
■ What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I do think that the colour scheme and general placements of
the assets looks good and works
 What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– Something I do disagree with is that the back page could in
fact stay empty
 What changes would you make to your product based upon
your peer feedback and why?
− I would probably break up some of the longer columns of
text on select pages as I do believe that would make an
impact
