2. Initial Reaction
My initial reaction to seeing the context of the brief was
that it seems to me to be a very doable project. Whilst in
previous projects I needed to spend some time
wondering about what topic I could do, for this rotation I
immediately had a list of potential topics to make a
magazine based on and how I would do so. The three
ideas I came up with were a magazine with a theme of 2D
Art, one for classic cars and a the third on music (mainly
70s-80s). I have had experience with filming footage of
cars in the past, so I believe that making the classic car
magazine would be the best idea. The time allocated to
the project is plentiful so I feel like I won’t be rushed on
finishing my work.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
Blues and reds are popular colours throughout the pictures. Also, there are many action
shots of the cars driving down a road. Whether this is used to show aesthetic or to show
speed depends on the model of the car. Frequent use of black and white filter as it gives the
images a retro effect, adding to the theme of the cars.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
I will involve similar visual styles used in the images (e.g black and white filter) in order to
make my magazine as attractive to the target audience as possible. I will also take
inspiration from the shots used to take pictures of the cars in order to cover as many
important areas of the car as possible without cluttering the page. Furthermore, my mood
board has planned out what cars I will use for the magazine. I picked these specific cars
because I have access to them, therefore getting the images I need will be doable.
7. Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Research, Initial Response,
Audience Research
Research 3 different magazines. Get an
image of the cover, a double-page
spread and the target audience.
Annotate the cover images noting
important features. Compare the
annotated images to look for
similarities and differences. Create a
mind map of ideas an a mood board.
2 Production Experiments,
Proposal, Planning
Experiment with different page types,
layouts, colour schemes and imagery
using photoshop. Create a proposal
stating my target audience, what the
goals of my project are and how I will
achieve them. Using my proposal and
experiments, plan how I was the final
piece to look.
3 Production I will start off by taking photographs of
the cars I will be using in the magazine.
I will then create a basic layout for the
magazine so that I know where to put
everything and how much space I will
need. The photos taken will be edited
in Photoshop to fit the layout.
4 Production I will conduct an interview on a certain
car used and input what is said into the
magazine. Additionally, I will finish off
the magazine by adding colour to text
and the background.
