2. Research • The main strength which I thought I had for my research would be the initial ideas because I think
that I put a lot more work into into in comparison to the existing products, because the main one out
of the ideas would be ”Music” because that is what I am passionate about, for the idea I think that
this really helped my product because I looked at the type of artists which I enjoy. Also I think that
the idea helped me because I by doing 3 different ideas It showed me the differences between them
because I chose 3 things which I am passionate about and It was difficult to select one of them, also
with these they are both presented differently in the photography about them because It showed me
that with music I didn't need to take photos I could do drawings myself. Another strength to the
research would be the existing products because I talked about the different colours and the theme
of the fanzine because I wanted to select a few different fanzines which where not similar at all
because I wanted to make sure that I talked about the different content which I could talk about, I
think that this helped my product because it gave me different styles to look at maybe try and use in
mine for example some of them had drawings in them and others used photography and this gave
me an insight into what I want to do, also one key thing which I was which helped me would be the
way which each page was layed out because some of them where really complex and loads of
content where as there was others which where simple, these where the ones which I took
inspiration for because I didn't want to cram the pages with loads of content.
• Although I had some key strengths there where a few weaknesses in my work the main one being
the research summary because I don’t think that I put much effort into because I though that I had
put all of the things which I can say into the existing products, also its not that I didn't know what to
talk about it was just that I didn't do enough to be up to standard for the rest of the research. With
this there are many improvements which I could make to this the main one would be to try and put
more effort into this section of my work and more time because at the end I just started to get
distracted and not bother putting any effort into, and also I don’t think that there was much to
summarize about the entire thing because I have talked about everything already, I don’t really think
that this has affected my product at all because there isn't much to take away from the summary.

3. Planning A strength which I can see in my planning would have to be in my initial ideas for my
fanzine because I went into detail about what I wanted to in the future for this project,
with this I was thinking about the DPS and the front and back cover because I wanted to
make sure that it was the best possible product which I could produce, even though this
helped me a strength which was a real insight into what I wanted to make would have to
be the idea development because I went through the different fonts which I could which
was good because I got to look through hundreds of them and pic the ones which I
thought would go well with my fanzine depending on the style and legibility because if
you cant read what I am talking about it is useful. Also in my idea development I talked
about maybe using a colour scheme and the different possibilities depending on the
artists which I was using, but I didn't end up using them because I didn't want to have
every single page to have a different colour pallet, so some things had to be changed
over the 3 week period when I started production. These things really helped be to
produce my product because it showed me that I didn't need to have my identical to
what I wanted to make but I could change it to something which I actually wanted
because they where quite dull to begin with. Although I thought these where strengths
at the same time they are weaknesses because with my idea development a lot of the
things which I had made where really useless because when I started production I
completely changed them because they where really bad, for example the front which I
thought looked good to begin with but I eventually started to dislike it. I think that an
improvement to my planning would have to be that I should have made things which I
actually wanted to bring forward instead of things which didn't actually help be at all. I
think this has had a good impact on my product because If I where to have stayed with
my initial ideas I don’t think it would have been any good at all.
Also with this idea plan I changed it
completely because I kept changing
the artists which I wanted to use
because I wanted to chose people I
enjoyed and also I needed them to
have pictures which where useable, I
think this changed my final piece
because the people I previously had
where quite dull and I didn't really
know anything about them which
would have been something to hold
my grade back.

4. Planning Another thing which I made during my planning would have to be my Mood
board which I think is a strength which helped me to chose what I wanted to
feature in my fanzine and the kind of artwork which I wanted to use,
because I began my adding the cartoony looking work into it because I had
watched a video which inspired me to make the same kind of content. This
was a strength as I stayed with me from the start of the project to the end
of production because It was the best thing which I have learnt throughout
this project and It will hopefully be something which I can use in other
project in the future. I think that his has really helped my product because I
couldn’t think of any other way of showing the artists which I have without
having any copyright issues because I would have had to use images from
the internet where as if I used the cartoon I would be able to get away with
using images put tracing them with the pen tool on Photoshop. I still think
that these are strengths but at the same time it is a big weakness because
the images which I put into my Mood Board had nothing to do with what I
wanted to put into my fanzine, for example the glow in the dark mask
because I initially wanted to make a mask for the front cover but then
realized that It wasn’t very practical, also I don’t know why I decided to put
the album covers in there because they had nothing to do with the designs
which I had produced. I think this did effect my product In a bad way
because If I used content which I actually would have put to good use I
think.
Also I think I should have put more
images of fanzines into my Mood
Board because It would have given
me a broader range of content to
select from on the internet and it
would have given me an idea for the
Double page spread and the front
and back cover.

5. Time Management • I think that overall I managed my time well as I managed to complete my
drawings by mid way through the second week, which was good as I had
more than enough time to complete everything by the next week. For each of
the weeks of production I managed to complete the things which I had
planned to in my schedule which shows that I managed my time very well. I
Think that if I had more time I think I could have made more pages for my
fanzine which may have improved my grade, because I felt like I didn't do as
many pages as I wanted to because I wanted to cover more artists.
• With the time schedule which I had kind of made I made everything which I
wanted to in the time which I have given myself which was something that I
wanted to make sure that I did. The initial thing which I planned on doing was
collecting the images and looking at how to make to cartoon drawings on
Photoshop, I started with the artists ”Travis Scott” because it was the most
complicated due to the all the little intricacies in the face and hair. I wanted
to start with the most complicated ones first because it would leave me more
time to do the rest of them, and also by doing them first It gave me more
time to think about what I wanted to do with the rest of the fanzine which
would include designing the different pages layouts, and also I would order
them from the ones I made first to last because I wanted show what I was
capable of through the first couple of pages and go more simple on the last
pages.
This is the schedule which I made
for this project and although it isn't
very detailed it tells you what I
wanted to do each week. I finished
this project I finished a day before
the last day which shows that I took
my time and effort into this first
project because I wanted to start
the year off on a positive note.

6. Technical Qualities
With the comparison between
these two would have to be that
there are only one or two
similarities where as there are
loads of differences, because I
think that mine is a lot more
simple compared to the tribal
one because It is very detailed
and intricate. I think the reason
behind this would have to be
because the tribal one is
professional and they have put a
lot more time and effort into
where as I didn't have enough
time to create something to this
level. The final reason I think
these are different would be
because of the genre of the
fanzine because I didn't have
much which I could put into the
front cover where as the other
one is a tattoo fanzine which is
full of designs.
A difference which I can see between the two would have to be the colour scheme to
begin with because on the right which is mine you can see that there are not many colours
at all, but the main one would be blue because I wanted to use a colour which matched
with the artists which I think works really well. Where as with the tribal tattoo magazine it
is splattered with colour which I think is done because of the genre of tattoo which they
are talking about, the one colour which catches your eye to begin with would have to be
the blue on the monkeys face which is peculiar because It is quite abstract because they
have used colours which are not usually right and are almost the complete opposite, I
think they wanted to use as much colour as possible to grab the attention of the audience
because they have a fairly young audience which they have. The colours which they have
used are all very vibrant and eye catching because they want to stand out from the rest of
the fanzines in this genre.
One similarity which I can see between the two of
these fanzines would have to be the text, because
they are both both and are one thing which stands
out the most. With mine although it is not very
vibrant it is quite large so that it is bold and eye
catching, but although they are similar the tribal
one stands out more because with the black box
around it you can see it a lot more because it is on
a white background and the text is more eye
catching because it is brighter and a lot more bold,
and it goes along with the theme of the fanzine.

7. Aesthetic Qualities
Aesthetically I think that my work is very
good because it looks quite strange and
abstract in comparison to other fanzines
which I have seen because as you can see
on the right hand side I have gone with a
cartoon drawing style for the artists which I
have covered because I wanted it to be at
the same time as simplistic quite detailed
because it took a while to do each
individual shape, for the looks of the
drawings I think that they came out very
well because you can tell who they are
without needing to ask about them, which
is something which I was aiming for
because I wanted them to look somewhat
realistic. To do this I decided to use
shadows and also different tones for the
skin, when I traced them I tried by best to
make sure that I got every detail which was
so that it was nearly identical. Although I
think that this a strength I think it could
improved mainly through paying more
attention to some of the pictures because I
haven't put a lot of detail in some of them
because some of their features don’t look
right or you cannot see them at all.
A key strength which I can see in my
visual work would have to be the
layout of the pages because I have it
so that the text wraps around the
artists image which I nice because I
didn't want to have a bold block of
text there, and also I have made the
font depending on the artists because
I have looked through many of there
albums and tried to find them on the
internet. I think that the fonts are key
because they are quite eye catching at
times, but with mine at the same time
as being a strength I think at times
there are quite difficult to read which
was one key bit of feedback which I
gotten back, and this Is one
improvement that I could which
would be to either increase the size of
the font or completely change it to
something more legible. Also in the
layout I think that adding the brushes
at the top of the pages are quite nice
because I fills the space which I didn't
know what to have there, but I think
some of the pages could do with
more because they still have a lot of
blank space which doesn’t look right.
With the feedback which I got back about my fanzine the main
improvement would have to be that on the hellboy which is Lil Peep,
the nose isn't very visible which I agree with because as his skin is
very white in the image it was difficult to find a colour which made is
nose quite prominent but at the same time I didn't want it to look
out of place, I think that this could be easily improved by just
changing the colour ever so slightly. Also another improvement which
I had been given would have to be that on that same page I didn't go
into enough detail as I did in the rest of the pages which I thought I
had but turns out I didn't do enough and I think that it is an easy
improvement which I can make, because I had to cut down what I
had initially written down because there was not enough space on
there. And finally it would have to be the font again which I just need
to either enlarge it or change the font completely.

8. Aesthetic and Technical DPS
For this I am comparing my own DPS work against a professional magazine because I
wanted to compare mine to this because I wanted to see the difference between a
self made product and a professional product made my a large company. The first
difference which you can see between the two would have to be the kind of images
are completely different because they have a picture which they more than likely
would have bought the rights to use it either from a music label or paparazzi,
compared to mine which is copied but made by myself which had no need for me to
buy the rights for it because you cannot trace it. Also with the image you can see that
mine is made to look abit more amateur and simple where as they have made it to
look professional and formal. Another thing which I can see which Is different in this
would be the text because the professional magazine is very formal in the way they
layout it out where as I have just put it all together and put it around the artists which
shows that I am not bothered about making it perfect because it is my own opinion
which is how I want it to be because with the magazine the pages go through many
different people and is constantly changed until it is suitable for the public which
shows they don’t care about having an opinion they just want to make sure that
everything is correct and factual, as well with mine it doesn’t go through anyone
because I don’t want to change what I have written because then it wouldn't be my
own work. And with the magazine they want to grab the audiences attention straight
away because they have giant bold lettering as soon as you open the page up.
Although I can see many differences one similarity would have to be the simplistic
style because there is not loads of stuff crammed onto the page which would lead it
to be very tacky.
