Research
• Strengths
– My quantitative and qualatative research was very helpful towards my project, as I was
able to see what common techniques were used with magazine covers, for example,
how text is positioned to stand out on the front page.
– Being in full control of my primary research allowed me to go through products similar
to my own and take ideas from them, as well as looking into different sites and taking
information to add to my planning.
– I was able to find a wide range of resources for my research, such as magazine company
sites like ‘Empire’. This helped me to understand the basics of what needs to be on a
magazine cover like advertisement.
– I was able to include doing my audience research whilst gathering ideas for my product.
– Having control of my research influenced my subjective research, giving me different
ideas of what I would like to look at next.
• Weaknesses
– Finding reliable sources for my secondary research took some time, as well as the
qualitative research, going through a lot of different sites to collect my data.
– I was unable to see if all of my quantitative research was completely valid and true.
– I did not create any questionnaires or interviews that could have aided in my primary
research, which I feel I should have done, as peer to peer feedback can help me to
understand what people like about the magazine covers / topic on the magazine.
Planning
• Strengths
– I was able to get all of my ideas and thoughts down on paper, as well as mapping out
what I would like to have on my front cover and double page spread.
– The planning of my style sheets helped me come up with a design for my front page, and
what kind of fonts and colours to use, as well as how the text will be displayed.
– I was able to plan out three different ideas, and chose one final idea that I was going to
do, and put all of my effort and ideas into that.
– Creating a mood board helped me see how colours can make an image stand out, as
well as composition, e.g. how the main characters / images are positioned in the middle
of the page to make them stand out to the consumer.
• Weaknesses
– I feel my planning was not always very clear and I should have been a little more specific
in my mind maps about my intentions when making the product.
– I feel as if I could have also added a little more information to my mind maps, and put
down even more ideas for my final product which would have helped me decide what I
wanted to do.
Time Management
• Strengths
– I feel that I managed my time very well, as I did not find myself rushing to get finished
during the end of production week.
– The time given for production week was enough time to get my product finished.
– I did not add too much to my product and made sure that I wouldn't’ have made it
harder and more time consuming to finish.
– I was able to have enough time to go through my final product and refine it, and change
whatever I wanted to change, which helped with the outcome of my project, as I was
able to make sure everything made sense and came together properly.
• Weaknesses
– There were times where I was left wasting time or not doing any work, either outside of
lessons or around the end of a lesson.
– I believe I should have used my time outside of college to expand on my product, by
adding new ideas or expanding on what I had already done.
– I didn’t fully stick to my timetable in my planning, and I feel it would have been a lot
easier if I had done, and I could have had some extra room for improvements.
Technical Qualities
Both front covers have the same colour
patterns. They both use red and black, along
with a white background to make the
character/s in the middle stand out and be
noticeable. Both front covers also feature a big
logo / company title / masthead at the top of
the page that stands out compared to the rest of
the text. The character/s in the middle of the
screen are all very popular characters, so anyone
that knows about the films will recognize the
characters from the cover.
Front Covers
Both of the double page covers follow a similar
layout. They both feature images that will stand
out and intrigue the viewer, as well as giving the
page a little more personality. The colours are
once again following a similar patterns and
sticking with the theme of the films. They both
feature text about the films and lay it out in a
similar way, having the images surround the text
so it stands out to the audience.
Double Page Covers
Aesthetic Qualities
I am very happy with how my double page spread turned out and am pleased with the
visuals such as adding images to blend in with the background behind the writing, and a
clean looking text layout on the left part of the page. The text 'film facts' on the second
page has an image behind it that acts like a puff or star or splodge. I like how both of the
pages are very different from each other, as I feel it adds more of a variety to the magazine,
having something new every time you turn the page. One thing that I would like to change
with my double page spread is the amount of facts on the right hand side of the page. I feel
like I could have added some extra facts about those movies, or even having some extra
movies, and adding the facts for them. I also feel like I personally could have made the right
I really like how clean my front cover
turned out. I specifically like how the
text on the page was positioned, like
'The modern film genre' text, as well
as the company title. I am also happy
with how the characters turned out in
the middle, and they look as if they
are all in the same place together. One
thing I would change next time is the
actual text, as I feel that it needs to be
more specific about the magazine.
Audience Appeal
One way in which my product appeals to my audience is the use of famous
characters from popular films that my target audience enjoy. The characters
from each of these different movies are enjoyed by people in my age group
both male and female. For example the film Deadpool is wildly popular
around the teenage / young adult group, as it features content fit for that
audience like violence and mild adult humour. Horror films are also popular
in this age category. Which is why I chose to put Michael Myers and Jigsaw in
the front cover to create iconism, so those familiar with these films will
recognize the characters. I also did the same with Darth Vader and James
Bond for my secondary audience, as these characters are quite old, and were
popular in the past and are still popular now. These characters also fit into
my social status group, as these films are enjoyed by people in this group,
and they will likely take interest from just looking at the cover.
People who enjoy the films on the front page will likely find it
interesting to learn some facts about those films, which is
why I decided to add a page dedicated to facts. I also feel like
the comic styled look on the second page will attract the
younger people of my target audience, as the page style is
more eye catching than the left page. I feel that the first page
will attract the more mature side of my target audience, as it
is styled out in a more professional looking way, and there is a
lot of reading which may not interest the younger audience.

Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– 'One thing I really like about the products is the use of three main
colours, black, white and red. I think that the white background makes
the main images stand out more so you can see them clearly. I also
really like the company logo, I think it looks very professional and
sharp. I like how both of the pages on the double page spread are
different, so there feels as if there is more of a variety in the
magazine.'
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– 'I think that I could have added a little more detail the magazine with
the characters, as well as been more literal about the content
inside, so the audience fully knows what is going to be inside the
magazine. I also think that some more facts would be good on the
facts page on the double page spread.'
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– 'I like how the characters are portrayed on the front cover and I think
they stand out a lot. I like how I have used all of the text to advertise
what my magazine will feature, and I also think that the text is
positioned well on the front cover. I love how clean the double page
spread looks, especially the first page. I think the way the text is
positioned makes it look tidy as well as how the images are portrayed.'
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– 'Maybe adding some more facts on the second page of the
double page. I think people would find it more interesting to
learn multiple facts about the films instead of just one. I think
this would really help to fill up the space on the page too.'
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– 'I like how some of the images on the double page spread blend into
the background, I think it gives the magazine more of a creative tone. I
also like the attention to detail on the front cover with the characters,
like having their reflections on the ground. I also thought the article on
the first page was very interesting, and left me wanting to know more
about the film.'
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– 'I think that some more information on the films on the second
page of the double page spread would have been good. As
some people may want to learn more about those films. So put
in more facts next time.'
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I believe that I could have added some extra facts onto
my right page, on my double page spread. I feel like this
would have made the audience more engaged, and
perhaps leaving them wanting to know more facts about
these films, giving them the exposure that the magazines
has intended to do. I also believe that I should have been
a little more specific and literal when letting people
know what content is in the magazine on the front page. I
feel as though I did not explain it very clearly, which may
confuse my audience or mislead them.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I feel like I don’t need to add extra detail on the characters
on the front cover, as I think they stand out perfectly as
they are.
Peer Feedback Summary
– Overall, I agree with a lot of my negative feedback. I
believe that I should have added some extra information /
facts on the second page of my double page spread, as it
would have given the page more of a professional look, as
well as giving the reader more information to take in about
the films I chose. I am happy with the positive feedback
from my front cover. I feel that I did a good job at the
visual element e.g. with the characters, but I also believe
that I could have been a little more specific with the
information on the front, so my audience know what they
are going to be reading about, as well as making sure I am
not misleading my audience by making sure that the
information as clear as possible.
