cognitive strategies are domain-general processes for
controlling the operation of mental activities,
including the techniques, skills and abilities that the
person used consciously or unconsciously to manage,
control, improve and focus their efforts on cognitive
aspects, such as processing, attention and
performance in learning.
 Learning strategies: when used by the student.
 Teaching Strategies: when used by the teacher.
Teaching strategies, depending on when they are introduced
into the teaching-learning process, are classified as:
• Preinstruccional: objectives, advance organizers, prior
information generating activity.
• Coinstruccional: signs, illustrations, analogies, conceptual
map.
• Postinstruccional: summaries, concept maps, graphic
organizers.
Metacognitive strategies are the ability to control the
processes which must be organized, reviewed and
modified based on learning outcomes.
The meta-cognition is a strategy for acquiring
knowledge. It is, specifically, the ability to understand
a method of learning and assimilating information.
 The stop to recognize the object and purpose of
an exercise or task is to be performed
(distinguishing, for example, between one serving
to enrich the vocabulary by reading a text and
another serving for improving reading
comprehension ).
 Self-evaluation of an activity already undertaken.
 Finding occasions of practice to consolidate
learning in class.
