Learning strategies are approaches used by students to help them understand information and solve problems. There are two main types: cognitive strategies, which involve manipulating information through processes like repetition, note-taking, and deducing; and metacognitive strategies, which allow students to plan, monitor, and evaluate their own learning through techniques such as paying directed attention, self-monitoring performance, and self-evaluation. Learning strategy instruction teaches students how to learn and apply information to be successful problem solvers.
