Education And Economic Inequality
In the United States, people like to believe everyone has an equal chance at success. This emphasis on
self effort perpetuates the belief that people control their own social standing. However, sociologists
recognize that social stratification is a society wide system that makes inequalities apparent (Griffiths
et al., 2016, p.188). There are many factors that drive social inequality; globalization and immigration,
technology advances, the family you were born into, and even the education you received in pre
school. I feel the most important contributing factor is economic inequality. I consider this to be true
not only for the United States, but globally as well.
Both wealthy and poor classes, and all those in between would benefit from living in a more
economically equitable society. Statistics show correlation of an increase in overall physical health
and longevity, a decrease in infant mortality rates, and an increase in mental health in individuals
living in societies with higher economic equality. There is also substantial evidence linking greater
equality to better social relationships within societies there is less violence, and a greater sense of
overall trust.
I believe addressing education, implementing new tax policies, and making fundamental changes to
the way Americans think about success will help reduce economic inequalities. If we can achieve this
in our country, economic societies around the globe will all benefit.
It is widely agreed that

Employee Paid Case Study
For a company to pay employees equally, it is important to have someone regulate equal pay more. It
has improved throughout the year, but it could be regulated more than it is. It started with the Equal
Pay Act of 1963. You see cases like Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire Rubber Co., Inc. Ledbetter was paid a
lower salary than some of the male managers due to her gender and was given low rankings and lower
raises. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 mandates that women and men who do equal work must receive
equal pay (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2013). The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 was signed by
President Obama and the act states longstanding position that each paycheck that contains
discriminatory compensation is a separate violation regardless of when the discrimination began
(Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, n.d.).
The only way anyone should be paid differently that holds the same position is if they are doing extra
work outside of their job description, such as taking on more responsibility when another employee is
out. I do not think this is regulated enough by most companies. To strengthen this law, I would also
add that each Human Resource team within every organization have an annual audit of all evaluations
for each employee. This would insure each gender is paid equally and if someone was given a lower
ranking, they would have to have documentation to back up the reason for the low ranking. This could
be proof of their low performance compared to the rest of the employees with the same job
description. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Letter From A Birmingham Jail By Mlk....
The civil rights movement was a very important part of not only the United States but also the 20th
century in general. Even today many people believe that the civil rights movement is still going on.
The bravery of men and woman during this period in the 1960s; some important figures included
Martin Luther king Jr., John Lewis, Malcolm X, Bayard Rustin and Angela Davis. The letter from a
Birmingham jail by MLK, Malcolm X s The black Revolution, and Angela Davis s I am a
Revolutionary Black Woman are very important pieces of the civil rights movement in the united
states for many reasons. The letter by MLK was created to response to criticism to the eight clergy
man. The black revolution was a speech made to persuade the audience to follow Muslim. Angela
Davis s piece also was one of controversy, not only was she black and a woman but she was also a
communist. The letter from a Birmingham jailwas an open letter used to defend the strategy of
nonviolent resistance to racism. Violent racist terror was so bad against blacks in Birmingham in the
summer of 1963 that the city was referred to as some locals as bombingham. King was arrested while
having a peaceful anti segregation march on the grounds that he didn t have a parade permit.
Segregation was part of the Jim Crow system. This was a system of separate schools, restaurants, and
bathrooms for colored people and whites. Colored people included everyone that wasn t white such as

Hall of Fame Steroids Paper

ENG 102
5 December, 2012
Hall of Famer? Major League Baseball (MLB) has always been one of the worst offenders of players
engaging in questionable behavior. With the MLB featuring as a key example in the steroid debate,
how can the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) electors decide which players are
eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Located in Cooperstown, New York, the National
Baseball Hall of Fame is in anticipation for new members. An election is held each year, no later than
January 15th, for players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The electors from BBWAA consist of
retired baseball players, which have been active writers for the BBWAA for at least ten years. These ...

These candidates should not get the benefit of the doubt for playing during a time where steroids were
commonly used. Taking steroids is a choice; any player willing to take steroids is giving up the honor
of being inducted into the Hall of Fame (Shipigel B17). A prime example of steroid controversy on the
Hall of Fame ballot is Mark McGwire. McGwire (pictured left) hit 583 home runs, including what was
once a record of 70 in the 1998 season for the St. Louis Cardinals. McGwire s career was tainted when
he was caught with Androstenedione in his locker during the 1998 season. Androstenedione better
known as Andro, is a steroid precursor which is banned from baseball. When McGwire was
questioned about steroid use at a Congressional hearing on March 17, 2005, he repeatedly said, I m
not here to discuss the past (qtd. in McGwire Unlikely). This damaged McGwire s candidacy for the
Hall of Fame ballot by raising the suspicion of drug use, influencing BBWAA writers not to vote for
him. McGwire has received close to a 25 percent vote on the ballot the three years running up to 2012.
Not nearly the 75 percent needed for induction. Several BBWAA writers discussed their stance on
McGwire s silence at the Congressional hearing; that it was a tacit admission that he used steroids
while playing. McGwire needs to clarify his past and explain whether or not he used steroids, in order
to maintain his integrity and character. When evaluating McGwire s 16 year

Two Moods In My Book Trailer
Written Justification Paper Mood There are two moods in my book trailer. One of the moods is more
of a sad mood. The mood is sad because Oakley loses her brother to cancer at the beginning of the
book. She has a hard time dealing with the loss of her brother because they were so close. There is
also another sad part in my book trailer, this is when Oakley finds out that her parents are getting a
divorce. The second mood of my book trailer is more happy and uplifting. The happy and uplifting
mood is because Oakley goes out and learns how to surf, does fun things with Carson, and her aunt
takes her out the boat to see the animals in the ocean. Oakley eventually learns to be okay with Lucas
s death and she then becomes a lot happier and then falls in love with Carson. Two Themes The first
theme in my book trailer is, Losing someone close to you can be hard. As humans, we all struggle
when we lose someone or something we love. It takes us awhile to move on but each and every day it
ends up being a little better. Oakley went through this in my book she lost her brother which was also
her best friend. For Oakley, it took her a long time to move on and be happy again. The second theme
in my book trailer is, The love for your family helps you. When you go through hard times your ...

The pictures of the items represent interest those certain characters have. For Oakley, there are
pictures of a guitar, a camera, and a journal. The guitar and the camera represent two of her hobbies
and the journal represents the notebook of letters that her brother Lucas wrote her. For Carson, there
are pictures of surfboards, a bicycle, and a lifesaver. The surfboards represent Carson liking to surf
and the bicycle is there to represent when Oakley and he went on bikes rides. The lifesaver is there
because he rescued Oakley from the strong waves. For Aunt Jo there are marine animals because she

The Automobile and the Economy Essay
The Automobile and the Economy
The effects the automobile has had on the economy of the world are tremendous.
The major effects have came in many ways and include sales of the automobile, jobs provided to sell
and manufacture the automobile, gas/oil sales to run the automobile, and the start of auto racing sport.
The revolution of the automobile was the start of the most popular and successful industry in the
world.
The Effect of Gas/Oil
There is a great effect on the economy due to the sale of gas. The major effect of how much gas is sold
is how efficient the particular automobile uses gas and what automobile the people choose to buy.

The only problem with this chart is the lack of increase after 1985. This is due to several reasons
especially the 90 s new kick with sport utilities vehicles which usually have a lower fuel efficiency.
Americans are also behind the rest of the world in fuel efficiency as the following chart shows new car

Integrated Marketing Communications Is Defined As A...
According to Ang (2014), Integrated Marketing Communications is defined as a research based,
audience focused, communication planning process that aims to execute a brand communication
program over time and this is achieved by coordinating different communication disciplines and
integrating the creative content across different media. The aim is to achieve short term financial gain
and long term brand equity. Since IMC is all about using different Media vehicles, the most effective
one is Television; such as Reality television shows which has many benefits and contributions
especially when it comes to creating a successful brand. There are two reality television shows that
has been analysed from the first part of this assignment and they are: Keeping up with the Kardashians
and My Kitchen Rules, which I will then discuss how it relates to branding.
Brand equity is important to create and maintain as it is an intangible asset of added value as well as
goodwill that will then result from the favourable image, impressions of differentiation and the
strength of consumer attachment to brand name, company name or trademark. The stronger the equity
the better it positions the company as well as its brand which is only often reinforced through
advertising or even sponsoring. For example, Breville appliances command good quality kitchen
appliances and represents higher price than the other brands as it is being used by the contestants of
My Kitchen Rules. In other words, it is the

Vitamin Deficiencies and Psychiatric Illnesses
Deficiencies of vitamins are associated with psychiatric illnesses either by being the primary cause or
an exacerbating factor. Psychiatric symptoms could also lead to poor nutrition. Vitamin deficiencies
may play a role in compromising patient recovery.
Vitamins are organic substances essential for several enzymatic functions.
There are 13 known vitamins which are either fat soluble (4 vitamins i.e. KEDA) or water soluble (9
vitamins i.e. C, the B group).
Regarding brain function, B vitamins are essential in the maintenance of myelin, neuro transmitter
production, and methylation cycle. Fat soluble vitamins are necessary in inflammatory regulation,
regeneration of antioxidants and genetic modification.

Folate is required in synthesis of neurotransmitters found in the brain and in phospholipid production.
Dietary folate must be converted to L methylfolate for use in the brain. Folate deficiency and

(12).
A meta analysis of 11 stud¬ies of 15,315 persons found those who had low folate levels had a

reduced levels of folate (14)
The TT genotype in patients with a methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T

Art As A Form Of Self-Expression
Is art a form of self expression from the artist to their audience? Self expression is defined as, the
expression of one s feelings, thoughts, or ideas, especially in writing, art, music, or dance. (English
Oxford Dictionary). The source of inspiration for art is unknown for certain, but it is commonly
believed that it comes from inside the artist, based on their life lessons and experiences. If the
inspiration comes from within, then artists are expressing themselves through their art, thus art is self
expression. There are innumerous forms of art, from writing to dancing; singing to creating a drawing,
public speaking and everything in between. A person who is whistling is expressing how they are
feeling through the notes that they hit. Someone who is drawing can use darker colors, such as browns
and blacks to give off an eerie tone. Does that mean that all art is self expression? No, not all art is self
expression, maybe it isn t self expression at all. This leads to the debate over whether art is self
expression if the inspiration comes from an outside source, rather than from within. When an artist
attempts to express their self feelings through their art, a special emotion is evoked if the art comes
from deep within. There is a distinguishable difference between art that comes from within and art that
is inspired by an outside source. Plato believes that artists are possessed by someone or something,
rather than their inspiration coming from inside. This means that art would not be self expressional, as
it isn t coming from within the artist s mind, but rather an exterior source. In Plato s book, Ion,
Socrates explains to Ion, that: ...speaking well about Homer; it s a divine power that moves you, as a
Magnetic stone moves iron rings. (Plato, Ion, 18). In this analogy, Socrates is attempting to explain to
Ion that his ability to be well versed in the study of Homer is not due to his own inspiration and
aspirations, but rather because of a divine power that gives him this ability. In the text, Plato talked
about how Ion would light up when talking about Homer, showing that he may be possessed by
Homer. Ion is drawn in towards Homer as a fish is to the hook with bait on it.

The Importance Of Dual Professionalism
Avis et al (2010) state that historically, only occupations such as Doctors, Solicitors, the Clergy and
Bank Managers were worthy of the title of being called a Professional . However they go on to say
that this has changed over time to the point whereby much more diverse groups are describing
themselves within the category of being professional to the point that the term becomes meaningless.
That said, they do agree that a professional should hold a set of specific skills and knowledge that are
gained through a certain amount of training and should be used for the benefit of society . Teachers,
lecturers and trainers clearly fit within this remit. Scales (2008) lists professionalism as one of the
traits of an effective teacher. He goes on the say that professionalism is multi faceted, citing the way
teachers behave, look, the way interact with their students, how they talk and how they prepare and
plan their work all form what he believes makes a professional. In education and training, teaching
alone is not merely enough. To be seen as being knowledgeable within a specialist area is also needed
to be able to teach that subject and therefore teachers in this area of education are seen as dual
professionals. The Institute for Learning (IFL) (2012) considers that Dual professionalism relates to
many teachers within Further Education, both as a Teacher and as a proficient and knowledgeable
individual in their own subject specialism. Machin et al (2017) go a step further

Accuvein Finder
Inserting an IV into a patient can be a painful experience, especially if the individual has veins that are
hard to visualize or palpate. Some reasons for difficulty inserting IV catheters include obesity, veins
that roll or blow easily, dark pigmented skin, and dehydration. With the help of modern technology,
devices called Accuvein finders have made it a less painful process for patients. The author will
discuss how these devices have compared to palpation and inspection on hospitalized patients in the
last five years. This paper will focus on three articles that tested the Accuvein finders and the results of
each. Accuvein is a device that uses infrared light to illuminate veins (Aulagnier et al., 2014). It has
been a preferred method over ultrasound because of its portability and easy training. There are
different brands of the vein illuminating devices, such as Vein Locator Universal, which is used at
Sharn Anesthesia in Tampa (Aulagnier et al., 2014). AccuVein has shown promise in pediatric patients

Non profit organizations and raffles. Raffles are an excellent way for nonprofit organizations to raise

Court of Appeal Holding Clarifies Employer Calculation of Probationary Period
A recent ruling by the California Court of Appeal clarifies when a government employer should
calculate the beginning and end of an employee s probationary period. In California Department of
Correction and Rehabilitation v. California State Personnel Board (2015) Cal.App.5th , the Court of
Appeal held that the first day of the probationary period should be counted when calculating the
probationary period, and therefore, any notice not properly served as required by statute within the
period is defective.
The case revolved around Appellant, McCauley, who was hired as a Correctional Sergeant at Avenal
State Prison. His new position began on December 2, 2008 and was subject to a 12 month
probationary period before becoming permanent. On December 1, 2009, the California Department of
Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR) served McCauley with a notice of rejection removing him from
the position effective December 8, 2009. On December 2, 2009, another document was served on him
extending his probationary period until December 8, 2009. McCauley contended the papers were
invalid due to the CDCR s failure to comply with timing and notice requirements in relation to the
duration of the probationary period. He appealed to the California State Personnel Board which agreed
with him and revoked the notice of rejection. The CDCR thereafter challenged the finding by filing a
writ of mandate in the trial

The Clothing Industry Has Changed Changing Society Essay
The clothing industry has changed rapidly in the past couple of decades. While Nike and Burberry are
doing well despite a drastic loss of sales for high end fashion brands, some companies have found far
more success. Companies like H M, Zara and Forever21 have come into the scene with their fast
fashion. When people used to think about cheap clothing they would think about a low quality, ugly
outfit. Now, people can get the latest fashion trends at a low cost. The people in charge of these
companies like Zara can be in the top 5 richest people in the world. But if their clothes are cheap how
do the companies possibly make money? This is made possible by cheap labor overseas, low quality
clothes and the emergence of fast fashion retailers. What tends to differentiate the prices of clothes is
the quality of the material. Materials like cashmere and silk are more expensive than polyester or
cotton. In the case of companies that sell purses, which are always in high demand, luxury brands
typically use pure leather. These high quality materials tend to last longer and tend to feel better as
well. However, quality is not valued as much as it used to be. With the rise of affordable and
fashionable clothing, people simply don t feel the need to spend a lot of money on a clothing item,
even if it is of high quality. There is no longer a concern towards sacrificing fashion for being frugal
because now everyone can look good. There is no longer a wall separating those who wear

Oriental Art Essay
Oriental Art Oriental art is very distinct from other parts of the world. In their sculptures they still used
such materials as clay, wood, and bronzes. However their art work promoted such things as goodness
in nature, serenity, graceful balance, spiritual perfection, and a mystical harmony within themselves.
There work avoided confusion, conflict and violent emotions at all costs. New or unprecedented
experiments in their art work was never welcomed, and the expression of nobility and inner worth
where demanded. Ultimately oriental art was said to be a way of being , but to understand this you
must look at the words of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius who said Raise yourself to the
beautiful. However not all Oriental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Shang people came into history half way through the second millennium B.C., these people also
lived in pounded earth settlements, and made funeral vessels. These people established the li which
was the basic metallic shape used in their bronzes. Not only was the li used, but also other shapes have
been discovered. In recent excavations, thousands of different vessels have been found, however it is
possible to distinguish about forty basic shapes of the vessels. Each vessel served a different purpose
in sacrifice or funeral ceremonies. Some where used for wine and water, some for storing foods, while
others where used for cooking meats. The Shang dynasty have left some sculptures as original and
different as there bronzes. However none of the large statue survived excavations. The importance of
the excavations cannot be overemphasized. Who would have imagined an ancient culture so rich that
they actually created stone sculptures, wheel made pottery, carved jade, and bronzes, which have
never been surpassed.
Too often when people speak of Oriental art they think that both China and Japan developed in the
same way and the same time. This statement however is false, and the Japanese art did not start till
several years after Chinese art did. The first forms of Japanese art can be looked at through the Jomon
people, who where nomadic hunters and fishers. A number of human figurines and fertility gods have
been found, also

Pathow And Density Experiment Essay
For the first set of trials, flow and density were measured during each trial. The density of vehicles is
defined as the number of vehicles per unit length. It was mea sured as the total number of vehicles
divided by 303, the total number of spaces on the road. Since the number of cars on the road did not
change over the course of one trial, the density could be measured at any point during the trial. Flow is
defined as the number of vehicles passing a certain point on the road per unit time. To measure flow,
the total number of vehicles that passed the right side of the Netlogo display was calculated and
divided by the amount of time that passed, 3000 time steps. The probability of shifting (p shift) was
set at 0.1 and the density was initially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The density was increased in increments of 3 303 because the number of cars always has to be a
multiple of 3 (so that there will be an equal number in each lane), 6 and the average flow over 3000
time steps was measured for each density setting. This allowed me to create a flow density diagram for
p shift=0.1. I repeated this procedure with p shift=0.2, p shift=0.3, p shift=0.5, and p shift=0.8 to get
an idea of how different values of p shift would affect the flow density relationship. For the first flow
density graph (Figure 1), all vehicles were given a maximum speed of 10. For the second flow density
graph (Figure 2), maximum speeds of 8, 9, and 10 were distributed among the vehicles with equal
probability. In a second set of trials, I measured average speed and density. The average speed of a
vehicle over time was calculated by computing the total distance it had traveled and dividing by 3000
time steps. Since a vehicle moved a distance equivalent to its speed in each time step, average speed
could also be calculated by computing the sum of its speeds in each time step and dividing by 3000.
Density was measured in the same way as in the first trial. Initially, 30 vehicles were placed on the

Declaration Of The Rights Of Man Essay
Many revolutionaries and peasants insist on revoking Article 17 of the Declaration of the Rights of
Man, which declares that property is a sacred and inviolable right. The National Assembly has already
seized and sold much of the land of the Catholic Church, and even peasants have taken thousands of
manor houses. The most extreme and wild radicals seek to eliminate all rights to property. If these
radicals and revolutionaries succeed in eliminating a right to property and in confiscating all of the
wealth in France, they will eventually cripple France s intellectual creativity. Furthermore, France will
resemble the horrific and savage state which Rousseau cherishes because famine, disease, and
stagnation will ensue. Revolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Burke notes that Title 1 of the pending constitution guarantees the inviolability of property or a just
and prior indemnity for that of which a legally established public necessity may demand the sacrifice.
How can the inviolability of property possibly be reconciled with the National Assembly grabbing the
lands of the nobility and the Catholic Church? Burke also goes on to wonder what will happen next if
the state begins to take away one institution or person s property. In his writing, Burke states It is not
the confiscation of our church property from this example in France that I dread, though I think this
would be no trifling evil. The great source of my solicitude is, lest it should ever be considered in
England as the policy of a state, to seek a resource in confiscations of any kind; or that any one
description of citizens should be brought to regard any of the others as their proper prey. Revolutions
and their radicals are favourable to confiscation, while government is needed to subdue men s
passions, including their greed for the property of

Leadership Styles And Theories Of Leadership Style
Firstly, aspiring leaders need to recognize all of the various styles of leadership that exist. Every
organization is structured differently, with differing employee behaviors, and it is the leader s
responsibility to implement the style that will work the best for their specific work or organizational
structure. Often, more than one leadership style is implemented to accomplish the desired results of
the leader (Blanken). While a multiple of leadership styles exist, three well known and commonly
practiced leadership styles that will be examined include the Autocratic, Democratic and the Laissez
Fare. These three leadership styles were discovered by psychologist Kurt Lewin in the late nineteen
thirties (Cherry). Psychologist Lewin completed a study that involved assigning various
schoolchildren to one of three different groups (Cherry). While each group was led by a particular
leadership style, researchers witnessed and recorded all behavior that was exhibited by the children
during their assigned projects (Cherry). Beginning with the Autocratic or Authoritarian leadership
style, the leader sets clear guidelines for the results that he or she is searching for. For example, the
leader will clarify what processes or tasks should be completed, the deadlines for the assigned
processes or tasks, and also the process for how to complete the assigned processes or tasks. This
leadership style employs a clear separation between the leader and group of individuals under his
guidance.

Baby Bust Vs Ambition
The comparisons between the essay Baby Bust and Ambition resulted in numerous similarities, each
with their own point of view. In the Baby Bust essay it is stated that in the struggle to balance work
and family, work consistently wins. People are choosing not to have children, and it is affecting our
economy. Compared to the Ambition essay which generally has a more positive tone regarding this
issue. Both essays have connections in their government and societal influence on people, pressure to
start a family without risking your career, and the effects of work and family balance.
The government and society impact our lives greatly, they provide us with information that we believe
to be true, but this is not always the case. In the seventeenth century, Spinoza made the word
ambitious into a rather dislikable quality in an individual. Particularly in women, the word ambitious
was associated with a career woman which implied that she was pitiless, and would give anything to
rise above all. This societal concept was later challenged in the seventies and eighties, and was
transformed into a more acceptable quality (Ambition, P. Klass). Compared to another epidemic when
the government would call attention to population explosion . They were certain that the planet will
soon be overcrowded, which was entirely false. Due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a pressure that one must have children before they reach a certain age, but several feel it will
jeopardize their careers. In the essay Baby Bust, it is stated that women are putting off having children
and young adults are choosing to have none. Research indicated that 40% of women in the profession
have not started a family due to their careers and 30% of men said the same (Baby Bust, P. Klass).
Similarly, in the essay Ambition, today women are uncertain between family and career. Women who
rise to the top realize it may be too late to have children (Ambition, P.

Meaning In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
Do people try to find a meaning through their everyday lives by being taught by someone, or do they
find it on their own? Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse wrote about a guy named Siddhartha who goes out
on his own on a quest to learn about the meaning of life. He, Siddhartha goes on this quest running
through many obstacles trying to reach his goal. Hesse suggests that people can t always find meaning
through teachers but they have to find it themselves, such as when Siddhartha tried to learn from the
Samanas, a group of men who are ascetics, and kamala a woman who teaches him to love.
From Siddhartha waiting for his father s approval he eventually went out to be a Samana. He,
Siddhartha, decided to go out on his own way learning new knowledge through the Samanas,

  • 2. Education And Economic Inequality In the United States, people like to believe everyone has an equal chance at success. This emphasis on self effort perpetuates the belief that people control their own social standing. However, sociologists recognize that social stratification is a society wide system that makes inequalities apparent (Griffiths et al., 2016, p.188). There are many factors that drive social inequality; globalization and immigration, technology advances, the family you were born into, and even the education you received in pre school. I feel the most important contributing factor is economic inequality. I consider this to be true not only for the United States, but globally as well. Both wealthy and poor classes, and all those in between would benefit from living in a more economically equitable society. Statistics show correlation of an increase in overall physical health and longevity, a decrease in infant mortality rates, and an increase in mental health in individuals living in societies with higher economic equality. There is also substantial evidence linking greater equality to better social relationships within societies there is less violence, and a greater sense of overall trust. I believe addressing education, implementing new tax policies, and making fundamental changes to the way Americans think about success will help reduce economic inequalities. If we can achieve this in our country, economic societies around the globe will all benefit. It is widely agreed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Employee Paid Case Study For a company to pay employees equally, it is important to have someone regulate equal pay more. It has improved throughout the year, but it could be regulated more than it is. It started with the Equal Pay Act of 1963. You see cases like Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire Rubber Co., Inc. Ledbetter was paid a lower salary than some of the male managers due to her gender and was given low rankings and lower raises. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 mandates that women and men who do equal work must receive equal pay (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2013). The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 was signed by President Obama and the act states longstanding position that each paycheck that contains discriminatory compensation is a separate violation regardless of when the discrimination began (Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, n.d.). The only way anyone should be paid differently that holds the same position is if they are doing extra work outside of their job description, such as taking on more responsibility when another employee is out. I do not think this is regulated enough by most companies. To strengthen this law, I would also add that each Human Resource team within every organization have an annual audit of all evaluations for each employee. This would insure each gender is paid equally and if someone was given a lower ranking, they would have to have documentation to back up the reason for the low ranking. This could be proof of their low performance compared to the rest of the employees with the same job description. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (n.d.). • 4. Analysis Of The Letter From A Birmingham Jail By Mlk.... The civil rights movement was a very important part of not only the United States but also the 20th century in general. Even today many people believe that the civil rights movement is still going on. The bravery of men and woman during this period in the 1960s; some important figures included Martin Luther king Jr., John Lewis, Malcolm X, Bayard Rustin and Angela Davis. The letter from a Birmingham jail by MLK, Malcolm X s The black Revolution, and Angela Davis s I am a Revolutionary Black Woman are very important pieces of the civil rights movement in the united states for many reasons. The letter by MLK was created to response to criticism to the eight clergy man. The black revolution was a speech made to persuade the audience to follow Muslim. Angela Davis s piece also was one of controversy, not only was she black and a woman but she was also a communist. The letter from a Birmingham jailwas an open letter used to defend the strategy of nonviolent resistance to racism. Violent racist terror was so bad against blacks in Birmingham in the summer of 1963 that the city was referred to as some locals as bombingham. King was arrested while having a peaceful anti segregation march on the grounds that he didn t have a parade permit. Segregation was part of the Jim Crow system. Major League Baseball (MLB) has always been one of the worst offenders of players engaging in questionable behavior. With the MLB featuring as a key example in the steroid debate, how can the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) electors decide which players are eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Located in Cooperstown, New York, the National Baseball Hall of Fame is in anticipation for new members. These candidates should not get the benefit of the doubt for playing during a time where steroids were commonly used. Taking steroids is a choice; any player willing to take steroids is giving up the honor of being inducted into the Hall of Fame (Shipigel B17). A prime example of steroid controversy on the Hall of Fame ballot is Mark McGwire. McGwire (pictured left) hit 583 home runs, including what was once a record of 70 in the 1998 season for the St. Louis Cardinals. McGwire s career was tainted when he was caught with Androstenedione in his locker during the 1998 season. Androstenedione better known as Andro, is a steroid precursor which is banned from baseball. When McGwire was questioned about steroid use at a Congressional hearing on March 17, 2005, he repeatedly said, I m not here to discuss the past (qtd. in McGwire Unlikely). This damaged McGwire s candidacy for the Hall of Fame ballot by raising the suspicion of drug use, influencing BBWAA writers not to vote for him. McGwire has received close to a 25 percent vote on the ballot the three years running up to 2012. Not nearly the 75 percent needed for induction. Several BBWAA writers discussed their stance on McGwire s silence at the Congressional hearing; that it was a tacit admission that he used steroids while playing. McGwire needs to clarify his past and explain whether or not he used steroids, in order to maintain his integrity and character. When evaluating McGwire s 16 year ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mood is sad because Oakley loses her brother to cancer at the beginning of the book. She has a hard time dealing with the loss of her brother because they were so close. There is also another sad part in my book trailer, this is when Oakley finds out that her parents are getting a divorce. The second mood of my book trailer is more happy and uplifting. The happy and uplifting mood is because Oakley goes out and learns how to surf, does fun things with Carson, and her aunt takes her out the boat to see the animals in the ocean. According to Ang (2014), Integrated Marketing Communications is defined as a research based, audience focused, communication planning process that aims to execute a brand communication program over time and this is achieved by coordinating different communication disciplines and integrating the creative content across different media. The aim is to achieve short term financial gain and long term brand equity. Since IMC is all about using different Media vehicles, the most effective one is Television; such as Reality television shows which has many benefits and contributions especially when it comes to creating a successful brand. There are two reality television shows that has been analysed from the first part of this assignment and they are: Keeping up with the Kardashians and My Kitchen Rules, which I will then discuss how it relates to branding. Brand equity is important to create and maintain as it is an intangible asset of added value as well as goodwill that will then result from the favourable image, impressions of differentiation and the strength of consumer attachment to brand name, company name or trademark. The stronger the equity the better it positions the company as well as its brand which is only often reinforced through advertising or even sponsoring. For example, Breville appliances command good quality kitchen appliances and represents higher price than the other brands as it is being used by the contestants of My Kitchen Rules. • 14. Art As A Form Of Self-Expression Is art a form of self expression from the artist to their audience? Self expression is defined as, the expression of one s feelings, thoughts, or ideas, especially in writing, art, music, or dance. (English Oxford Dictionary). The source of inspiration for art is unknown for certain, but it is commonly believed that it comes from inside the artist, based on their life lessons and experiences. If the inspiration comes from within, then artists are expressing themselves through their art, thus art is self expression. There are innumerous forms of art, from writing to dancing; singing to creating a drawing, public speaking and everything in between. A person who is whistling is expressing how they are feeling through the notes that they hit. Someone who is drawing can use darker colors, such as browns and blacks to give off an eerie tone. Does that mean that all art is self expression? No, not all art is self expression, maybe it isn t self expression at all. This leads to the debate over whether art is self expression if the inspiration comes from an outside source, rather than from within. When an artist attempts to express their self feelings through their art, a special emotion is evoked if the art comes from deep within. There is a distinguishable difference between art that comes from within and art that is inspired by an outside source. Plato believes that artists are possessed by someone or something, rather than their inspiration coming from inside. This means that art would not be self expressional, as it isn t coming from within the artist s mind, but rather an exterior source. In Plato s book, Ion, Socrates explains to Ion, that: ...speaking well about Homer; it s a divine power that moves you, as a Magnetic stone moves iron rings. (Plato, Ion, 18). In this analogy, Socrates is attempting to explain to Ion that his ability to be well versed in the study of Homer is not due to his own inspiration and aspirations, but rather because of a divine power that gives him this ability. In the text, Plato talked about how Ion would light up when talking about Homer, showing that he may be possessed by Homer. Ion is drawn in towards Homer as a fish is to the hook with bait on it. ... • 16. The Importance Of Dual Professionalism Avis et al (2010) state that historically, only occupations such as Doctors, Solicitors, the Clergy and Bank Managers were worthy of the title of being called a Professional . However they go on to say that this has changed over time to the point whereby much more diverse groups are describing themselves within the category of being professional to the point that the term becomes meaningless. That said, they do agree that a professional should hold a set of specific skills and knowledge that are gained through a certain amount of training and should be used for the benefit of society . Teachers, lecturers and trainers clearly fit within this remit. Scales (2008) lists professionalism as one of the traits of an effective teacher. He goes on the say that professionalism is multi faceted, citing the way teachers behave, look, the way interact with their students, how they talk and how they prepare and plan their work all form what he believes makes a professional. In education and training, teaching alone is not merely enough. To be seen as being knowledgeable within a specialist area is also needed to be able to teach that subject and therefore teachers in this area of education are seen as dual professionals. The Institute for Learning (IFL) (2012) considers that Dual professionalism relates to many teachers within Further Education, both as a Teacher and as a proficient and knowledgeable individual in their own subject specialism. Some reasons for difficulty inserting IV catheters include obesity, veins that roll or blow easily, dark pigmented skin, and dehydration. With the help of modern technology, devices called Accuvein finders have made it a less painful process for patients. The author will discuss how these devices have compared to palpation and inspection on hospitalized patients in the last five years. This paper will focus on three articles that tested the Accuvein finders and the results of each. Accuvein is a device that uses infrared light to illuminate veins (Aulagnier et al., 2014). It has been a preferred method over ultrasound because of its portability and easy training. There are different brands of the vein illuminating devices, such as Vein Locator Universal, which is used at Sharn Anesthesia in Tampa (Aulagnier et al., 2014). AccuVein has shown promise in pediatric patients and illuminates the hemoglobin of the veins (Aulagnier et al., 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The research team believes while the device illuminates an image of the veins, it is hard to determine if it can be used for cannulation without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Court of Appeal Holding Clarifies Employer Calculation of Probationary Period A recent ruling by the California Court of Appeal clarifies when a government employer should calculate the beginning and end of an employee s probationary period. In California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation v. California State Personnel Board (2015) Cal.App.5th , the Court of Appeal held that the first day of the probationary period should be counted when calculating the probationary period, and therefore, any notice not properly served as required by statute within the period is defective. The case revolved around Appellant, McCauley, who was hired as a Correctional Sergeant at Avenal State Prison. His new position began on December 2, 2008 and was subject to a 12 month probationary period before becoming permanent. On December 1, 2009, the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (CDCR) served McCauley with a notice of rejection removing him from the position effective December 8, 2009. On December 2, 2009, another document was served on him extending his probationary period until December 8, 2009. McCauley contended the papers were invalid due to the CDCR s failure to comply with timing and notice requirements in relation to the duration of the probationary period. He appealed to the California State Personnel Board which agreed with him and revoked the notice of rejection. The CDCR thereafter challenged the finding by filing a writ of mandate in the trial ... • 24. The Clothing Industry Has Changed Changing Society Essay The clothing industry has changed rapidly in the past couple of decades. While Nike and Burberry are doing well despite a drastic loss of sales for high end fashion brands, some companies have found far more success. Companies like H M, Zara and Forever21 have come into the scene with their fast fashion. When people used to think about cheap clothing they would think about a low quality, ugly outfit. Now, people can get the latest fashion trends at a low cost. The people in charge of these companies like Zara can be in the top 5 richest people in the world. But if their clothes are cheap how do the companies possibly make money? This is made possible by cheap labor overseas, low quality clothes and the emergence of fast fashion retailers. What tends to differentiate the prices of clothes is the quality of the material. Materials like cashmere and silk are more expensive than polyester or cotton. In the case of companies that sell purses, which are always in high demand, luxury brands typically use pure leather. These high quality materials tend to last longer and tend to feel better as well. However, quality is not valued as much as it used to be. With the rise of affordable and fashionable clothing, people simply don t feel the need to spend a lot of money on a clothing item, even if it is of high quality. There is no longer a concern towards sacrificing fashion for being frugal because now everyone can look good. There is no longer a wall separating those who wear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However their art work promoted such things as goodness in nature, serenity, graceful balance, spiritual perfection, and a mystical harmony within themselves. There work avoided confusion, conflict and violent emotions at all costs. New or unprecedented experiments in their art work was never welcomed, and the expression of nobility and inner worth where demanded. Ultimately oriental art was said to be a way of being , but to understand this you must look at the words of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius who said Raise yourself to the beautiful. The Shang people came into history half way through the second millennium B.C., these people also lived in pounded earth settlements, and made funeral vessels. These people established the li which was the basic metallic shape used in their bronzes. Not only was the li used, but also other shapes have been discovered. In recent excavations, thousands of different vessels have been found, however it is possible to distinguish about forty basic shapes of the vessels. Each vessel served a different purpose in sacrifice or funeral ceremonies. Some where used for wine and water, some for storing foods, while others where used for cooking meats. The Shang dynasty have left some sculptures as original and different as there bronzes. However none of the large statue survived excavations. The importance of the excavations cannot be overemphasized. Who would have imagined an ancient culture so rich that they actually created stone sculptures, wheel made pottery, carved jade, and bronzes, which have never been surpassed. Too often when people speak of Oriental art they think that both China and Japan developed in the same way and the same time. This statement however is false, and the Japanese art did not start till several years after Chinese art did. The first forms of Japanese art can be looked at through the Jomon people, who where nomadic hunters and fishers. A number of human figurines and fertility gods have been found, also ... • 26. Pathow And Density Experiment Essay For the first set of trials, flow and density were measured during each trial. The density of vehicles is defined as the number of vehicles per unit length. It was mea sured as the total number of vehicles divided by 303, the total number of spaces on the road. Since the number of cars on the road did not change over the course of one trial, the density could be measured at any point during the trial. Flow is defined as the number of vehicles passing a certain point on the road per unit time. To measure flow, the total number of vehicles that passed the right side of the Netlogo display was calculated and divided by the amount of time that passed, 3000 time steps. The density was increased in increments of 3 303 because the number of cars always has to be a multiple of 3 (so that there will be an equal number in each lane), 6 and the average flow over 3000 time steps was measured for each density setting. This allowed me to create a flow density diagram for p shift=0.1. I repeated this procedure with p shift=0.2, p shift=0.3, p shift=0.5, and p shift=0.8 to get an idea of how different values of p shift would affect the flow density relationship. For the first flow density graph (Figure 1), all vehicles were given a maximum speed of 10. For the second flow density graph (Figure 2), maximum speeds of 8, 9, and 10 were distributed among the vehicles with equal probability. In a second set of trials, I measured average speed and density. The average speed of a vehicle over time was calculated by computing the total distance it had traveled and dividing by 3000 time steps. Since a vehicle moved a distance equivalent to its speed in each time step, average speed could also be calculated by computing the sum of its speeds in each time step and dividing by 3000. Density was measured in the same way as in the first trial. Initially, 30 vehicles were placed on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Declaration Of The Rights Of Man Essay Many revolutionaries and peasants insist on revoking Article 17 of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which declares that property is a sacred and inviolable right. The National Assembly has already seized and sold much of the land of the Catholic Church, and even peasants have taken thousands of manor houses. The most extreme and wild radicals seek to eliminate all rights to property. If these radicals and revolutionaries succeed in eliminating a right to property and in confiscating all of the wealth in France, they will eventually cripple France s intellectual creativity. How can the inviolability of property possibly be reconciled with the National Assembly grabbing the lands of the nobility and the Catholic Church? Burke also goes on to wonder what will happen next if the state begins to take away one institution or person s property. In his writing, Burke states It is not the confiscation of our church property from this example in France that I dread, though I think this would be no trifling evil. The great source of my solicitude is, lest it should ever be considered in England as the policy of a state, to seek a resource in confiscations of any kind; or that any one description of citizens should be brought to regard any of the others as their proper prey. • 28. Leadership Styles And Theories Of Leadership Style Firstly, aspiring leaders need to recognize all of the various styles of leadership that exist. Every organization is structured differently, with differing employee behaviors, and it is the leader s responsibility to implement the style that will work the best for their specific work or organizational structure. Often, more than one leadership style is implemented to accomplish the desired results of the leader (Blanken). While a multiple of leadership styles exist, three well known and commonly practiced leadership styles that will be examined include the Autocratic, Democratic and the Laissez Fare. These three leadership styles were discovered by psychologist Kurt Lewin in the late nineteen thirties (Cherry). Psychologist Lewin completed a study that involved assigning various schoolchildren to one of three different groups (Cherry). While each group was led by a particular leadership style, researchers witnessed and recorded all behavior that was exhibited by the children during their assigned projects (Cherry). Beginning with the Autocratic or Authoritarian leadership style, the leader sets clear guidelines for the results that he or she is searching for. For example, the leader will clarify what processes or tasks should be completed, the deadlines for the assigned processes or tasks, and also the process for how to complete the assigned processes or tasks. This leadership style employs a clear separation between the leader and group of individuals under his guidance. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Baby Bust essay it is stated that in the struggle to balance work and family, work consistently wins. People are choosing not to have children, and it is affecting our economy. Compared to the Ambition essay which generally has a more positive tone regarding this issue. Both essays have connections in their government and societal influence on people, pressure to start a family without risking your career, and the effects of work and family balance. The government and society impact our lives greatly, they provide us with information that we believe to be true, but this is not always the case. In the seventeenth century, Spinoza made the word ambitious into a rather dislikable quality in an individual. Particularly in women, the word ambitious was associated with a career woman which implied that she was pitiless, and would give anything to rise above all. This societal concept was later challenged in the seventies and eighties, and was transformed into a more acceptable quality (Ambition, P. Klass).
