2. Compare And Contrast The South And South
The north and the south emerged as two distinct reasons because they had various
differences. The south and north both had their own ways of having their economy
and the geograph was in favor for the south while the north had poor soil. These
differences include the geography, slavery, and the economy.
The South s geography had nice fertile area so they could farm in the mainly cotton
and many other crops. With the nice fertile area they could grow many crops. The
south s main crop is cotton and cotton is the most valuable crop in the southern states.
In the text it states Both parts of the South were still agricultural, but the Upper South
still produced tobacco, hemp, wheat, and vegetables. The Deep South was committed
to cotton and, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slavery is almost everything to the south because they used them for farming.
Slaves were used in farming and to mostly pick cotton and they could clean the
owner s house and do other jobs. The way slaves were beneficial to the south was
that the owners did not have to pay the slaves to work and if they did not they
would be whipped for not work hard enough or fast enough. Although most of the
south thought that slavery was everything to them, there are some slaves owners
who are nice and take care of the slaves and later free most of their slaves if they
have worked long enough. In the text it states Some enslaved people worked in the
house, cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, sewing, and serving meals. They were
called domestic slaves. Other enslaved people were trained as blacksmiths,
carpenters, shoemakers, or weavers. this that the slaves did not only do farming
but other thing as house cleaners and others. However the north opposed slavery
and they wanted to abolish it. So instead they would have factories because of the
soil and because of why they did not like slavery. Also the north made slavery
illegal and it was a good thing, but slavery did not really end until the civil war. In
the text it states The demand for cotton had grown steadily with the development of
the textile industries of New England and Europe. this shows that they did not have
any slaves in the factories in the
3. Symbolism In Esperanza Rising
Esperanza Ortega of El Rancho de las Rosas is a young Hispanic girl that must
overcome strenuous obstacles in order to help her family. The novel Esperanza
Rising by Pam MuГ±oz Ryan has many symbols that contribute to the theme, but one
of the major motifs present is the process of crocheting the quilt. This symbol lasts
throughout the entire book, but the message only gets stronger for this symbol goes
hand in hand with the storyline. Esperanza is an only child in her family, and during
this time it was not acceptable for womanto own land. When Esperanza s papa gets
killed there were no other men in the family, so the land that Esperanza had grew
up on and loved would soon all be taken away, unless her mama sacrificers herself
and marries the rude brother of Esperanza s papa. This idea of men owning land is
one main reason why Esperanza s family must migrate to California. If Esperanza
was male, this story would not exist because the land would be given to her. Since
Esperanza is a female, the story has a complication in the plot that needs to be
overcame. This is the first obstacle that Esperanza must triumph over: leaving home
to somewhere unknown. Throughout the book Esperanza, mama, and abuelita work
on crocheting a quilt. The crocheting of this quilt has a special process that relates
greatly to the journey Esperanza takes. In order to crochet like abuelita you must add
ten stitches up to the top of the mountain. Add one stitch. Nine stitches down to the
bottom of the valley. Skip one (MuГ±oz Ryan 14). During the novelEsperanza has to
climb to the top of mountains and go down to the bottom of valleys in order to
complete her journey. The novel begins with Esperanza at the top of a beautiful
mountain, but when her papa dies, her house gets burned down, abuelita getting hurt,
and they have to migrate to California Esperanza is at the lowest point in the valley.
She sees all that is ahead, but in her eyes it is a huge mountain that needs to be
climbed. This will be a long strenuous journey with many more obstacles, but
Esperanza is stronger than she knows. The crochet technique of making mountains
and valleys applies greatly to everything that Esperanza goes through on her migration
to California.

A court will likely find Petrograd s claim against Coleman successful despite any
statute of limitations concerns. Delaware s adopted version of the UCC requires
that [a]n action for breach . . . must be commenced within 4 years after the cause of
action has accrued. Del. Code Ann. tit. 6 В§ 2 275 (LEXIS through 80 Laws 2016,
ch. 430). Conversely, breach of promise situations not involving the UCC must
adhere to the three year statute of limitations as set forth in the state s commercial
code. Specifically, section 8106 provides; [n]o action to recover damages . . .
arising out of contractual . . . relations, based on a promise . . . [or] caused by an
injury . . . indirectly from the act of the defendant shall be brought after the
expiration of 3 years from the accruing of the cause of such action . . . . Del. Code
Ann. tit. 10 В§ 8106 (LEXIS through 80 Laws 2016, ch. 430). Accordingly, this
memo will address whether this contract should be governed by the UCC, if the
current circumstances can qualify for an exemption in either scenario, and examine
whether any alternative opportunities exist.
A.The disputed contract is primarily service based and should not be governed by
the UCC.
Petrograd can likely prove the mixed contract in dispute is predominately service
based and therefore unsuitable to be governed by the UCC. Given that software has

This paper explores the nature of helping behavior within peer directed small groups
that may be most effective for learning, especially for students who have difficulty
with the material. Drawing on examples from recent research on student learning in
collaborative mathematics classrooms in a US middle school, we identify student
behaviors that are necessary for effective help seeking and help giving, as well as
responsibilities of teachers in establishing classroom conditions that bring about
effective helping behavior. The findings show that effective help seekers ask precise
questions, persist in seeking help, and apply the explanations received; effective help
givers provide detailed explanations of the material as well as opportunities for help
recipients to apply the help received, and monitor student understanding. These
critical helping behaviors reflect the constructivist views embodied in Piagetian and
Vygotskian perspectives on learning in social contexts.(Webb Mastergeorge, 2003)
A Strategy For Helping Students Learn How to Learn. The thing most interesting to
me about this study is its title. I believe that helping students learn how to learn is the
most important outcome for a high school education. This study will shed some very
important light on potential strategies for grouping students because it does discuss
small learning groups, and it also does some
6. Essay on Paying College Athletes
Should college athletes get paid more money?
There has been a constant debate the past few years on whether college athletes,
particularly football players, should get paid. In 1988, the Nebraska legislature
passed a bill that would allow the University of Nebraska football players to
receive better cash incentives. The bill was later vetoed by Governor Kay Orr, who
was governor of Nebraska at the time (O Toole etal. 2). . The dispute comes from
coaches, parents of the players, and the players themselves arguing that universities
make money off their own athletes and the athletes, in turn, do not receive any money
from that. Many NCAA officials disagree stating their case that college athletes
already receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the bill is getting exploited by NCAA rules and by the official in the Big 12.
According to Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg, the bill, if passed in Nebraska,
has a slim chance of passing in other states that has schools in the Big 12. He
states, At this point, I know of no other state legislative activity that relates to a bill
like this (cite). Weiberg expands on how he is not alone in this decision by saying,
Our presidents and chancellors have been uniformly opposed to any plan that would
give the appearance of play for pay (O Toole etal. 2). With these statements it seems
like Chambers doesn t have good position in getting the bill passed, but the bill can
initiate an argument saying that if college athletes do not get paid, the temptation of
illegal consumption of money by athletes could rise.
In agreeing with Weiberg, Wally Renfro, who is an assistant to NCAA president
Myles Brand, states, It (the bill) shouldn t happen for two reasons. One is
philosophical. It s not the model of intercollegiate athletics. Second, it s impractical.
They re basically talking, I think, about paying football players. I don t think that s
going to stand the test of a court challenge from students who play basketball or
students who play baseball or students in the tennis
7. Characteristics Of Paul Brown
Paul Brown is one of the most well known coaches ever. He is a hall of fame coach
who led the Cleveland Browns to dominance in the 1940s and 1950s. In high school,
he coached a powerhouse team that had very good success. He then went on to
College and the NFL. After his career In Cleveland, he went to the Cincinnati Bengals
where he achieved some success and even had the stadium named after him. Gladwell
defines certain characteristics in the book Outliers that make people successful and
an outlier. Paul brownExemplifies many of these ideas. Paul Brown was a coach
for many years. Brown was one of the best coaches ever and he did great things that
weren t just in football. His work ethic on playbooks and classroom techniques make
him one of the most well known coaches of all time (Barnes). Brown is an Outlier
because he exemplifies 10,000 hours of work/practice, he exemplifies the Mathew
effect, and he had opportunity for meaningful work.
Paul Brown knew the game so well that he got inducted into the Hall of Fame,
which proves he gave his job all he had and became a well known outlier. Practice
isn t the thing you do once you re good, It s the thing you do that makes you good
(Gladwell 171). Paul Brown exemplifies this quote so much. All the Outsiders in the
world know what it takes to reach their goal of success. Brown coached a
powerhouse high school team for nine years. During this time, he won two
championships with them. He coached with the Browns from 1946 62, and

The only real way to truly understand a story is to understand all aspects of a story
and their meanings. The same goes for movies, as they are all just stories being
acted out. In Thomas Foster s book, How to Read Literature Like a Professor ,
Foster explains in detail the numerous ingredients of a story. He discusses almost
everything that can be found in any given piece of literature. The devices discussed
in Foster s book can be found in most movies as well, including in Quentin Tarantinos
cult classic, Pulp Fiction. This movie is a complicated tale that follows numerous
characters involved in intertwining stories. Tarantino utilizes many devices to make
Pulp Fiction into an excellent film. In this essay, I will demonstrate how... Show more

them and Mia agrees. The final outcome of Vincent s quest is that the two form a
friendship with trust and respect. This mini story is just one example of how
quests are used in Pulp Fiction . Archetypes or symbols are described in Foster s
book as being easy to identify but almost impossible to define. According to Foster,
everyone wants a symbol to mean something incredibly specific (Foster 97). In
Pulp Fiction , the most prominent archetypes are the briefcase and the band aid.
Throughout the film, Marsellus Wallace wears a band aid on the back of his neck
and seeks out a briefcase which has been taken from him. The contents of the
briefcase and the reason for the band aid are never revealed throughout the movie.
Whenever Marsellus does not have his briefcase, he is shown with the band aid on
the back of his neck and whenever he has his briefcase, the band aid is gone.
Anytime the briefcase is opened, the only thing seen is a bright golden light
emanating from the case. Each character who sees what is inside of the case appears
enthralled and amazed with the contents. A very popular theory about the meaning of
the case and band aid is that perhaps the

10. Do Violent Video Games Cause Violent Behavior Essay
Do violent video games cause behavioral problems? For years this topic has been
highly debated amongst parents and the players. Violent video games do cause
behavioral problems because they alter a gamers mind.
Risk factors are a major part of behavioral problems. A risk factor of behavior
problems are behaviors that are harmful, disruptive, and impulsive. A majority of
researchers say that it is unlikely that playing violent video games will cause a child
with no other risk factors to turn into an extremely violent person(Lee). This being
said, violent video games are a common risk factor among adolescents (Cooper).
Personal background, peers, neighborhoods, and genetics are other common risk
factors. Combined, these risk factors can cause violent behavior to occur (Calvert).
Continually being exposed to violent acts will eventually lead to violent behavior.
Exposure to violence will cause some form of violence to develop over time.
Unnecessary violence, such as video games, are causing problems that would
otherwise not be an issue. For example, in one study, 161 nine through twelve year
old s and 344 college students were randomly assigned to play either a violent or
nonviolent video game throughout a specific amount of time. The participants played
a game against the computer in which they set punishments levels for their
opponents. Those who played the violent games appeared to have harsher
punishments than those who played nonviolent games (Cooper).
Children often imitate the actions of characters from games they play and find it
difficult to separate reality from fantasy. Kids are changing the way they think. Says
Dr. Gentile. He explains that long term exposure to this media can potentially lead to
changes in both thinking and behavior. Generally speaking, when children play these
games they really enter into the spirit of things. In many of these games, one must
play as a specific character throughout the game. From beginning to end, the player
is required to make decisions as if he/she was actually that character, facing new
challenges and completing quests with every new section of the game. These games
require the player to be an active participant, allowing them to decide the destiny of
their
11. Purpose Of Higher Education
Higher education has become a staple of American society. With over 20 million
students attending over 4,500 degree granting institutions, the role that higher
education has played on larger society is paramount (Thelin, 2017). However, despite
the popularity of higher education institutions, the exact purpose of higher education
has changed from century to century and may serve different purposes depending on
who is asked. Higher education today is arguably both a public and private good.
While state and federal governments have invested in a variety of higher education
initiatives, as well as assisted thousands of students with attending college through
loans and scholarships in hopes that students use their acquired skills and... Show

Although it seems as if the founding of Harvard and other colleges during the
Colonial Era were beneficial to the larger society, it seems as if these colleges
contributed to higher education in the United States manifesting as a private good.
Despite the number of opportunities Harvard and other colonial colleges had on
American society, these institutions further divided the elite from the rest of society,
since all students came from wealthy families. In fact, soon after the founding of
Harvard and other colonial colleges, being educated was tantamount to being elite
(Marine, 2017). Furthermore, acceptance into these institutions was limited to White
men, who were required to have prior knowledge of both Latin and Greek (Bastedo
et al, 2016). With early United States higher education serving such a limited
clientele, going to college was clearly not on the minds of most Americans. However,
through the signing of the Morrill Land Grant Colleges Act by President Abraham
Lincoln in 1862, college could become a reality for more Americans (Loss 2012;
Widmer, 2015). This act, proposed by Vermont native Justin Morrill, allowed the
federal government to take charge in developing public colleges and universities
throughout the United States (Loss, 2012) that focus on agriculture, technology

In addition, social life was more complex due to the lack of telecommunication. If
one wanted to talk to a family member in another state, or even a friend a few cities
away, snail mail was available which could take days to weeks for the recipient to
receive. Also, commuting from one place to another was done by horse and carriage,
or on foot. There were no motor vehicles, trains or airplanes available for short or
long distance commuting. It was not until the late 1700s when industrialization was
introduced and welcomed to the world.
One could assume why the rise of industrialization began. With sometimes unreliable
forms of communication, inefficient transportation, and slow manufacturing of goods
and products, the world was past due for a change. Well, the beginning of
industrialization, or what some may also refer to as urbanization, began in Great
Britain and eventually spread to the United States and all around the world.
Historians believe that industrialization began in Great Britain for various reasons.
One reason why historians believe Great Britain was the home of industrialization
was because they were more technologically advanced than other countries and had a
head start from around the world during this time ( The Industrial Revolution begins
in England (1760 1850) par. 1). Once industrialization spread around the world, lives

13. Global Pollution
al Explain four different forms of global pollution that may arise from a construction
project and explain four key methods used to protect the natural environment against
such pollutants
Environmental Pollution Construction Sites
Construction sites are found both within urban and rural areas, often in the close
proximity of homes. Due to their proximity to homes and the materials used,
construction sites may generate home pollution. This involves air, water, soil, and/or
noise pollution. Additionally, construction work may reveal existing subsurface
pollution. In such situation, construction work is stopped and costly remediation is
needed. Thus, construction work may generate construction pollution problems
affecting both home owners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Road construction pollution represents the generation of construction contamination
at sites where roads are built
Construction Pollution Prevention and Cost Recovery * Personal damage. From
the perspective of the public, the best prevention is to spend as little time as
possible outside (e.g., in your yard or balcony) close to a construction site during
operation time. Additionally, having a rich vegetation around your home (and
between the home and the construction site) will act as a natural filter for the
generated pollution, reducing the amount of pollution you may come in contact
with. So, planting in your yards or even pot plants in a balcony can help. The
greener the better. Also, regular spraying of water around the home will reduce the
amount of dust and exposure through inhalation, although the soil and water
pollution may increase (but these are less directly affecting you than air!).
However, if you believe you are already negatively impacted by a construction site
in the vicinity, especially if you have been recently diagnosed with a medical
condition involving the respiratory system, you may be entitled to compensation.
Evaluate your pollution case for free. * Property damage. From the perspective of
the construction site owner / developer, you may be faced with building on polluted
land

Pinky the Dolphin
Pinky is a bottlenose dolphin. It is completely normal, except for the fact that it s
pink. The social media has been going crazy since Pinky s last sighting on
September 9th, 2015. Pinky isn t the first pink dolphin, and probably won t be the

Pinky was first sighted in June 2007 in Louisiana waters as a dolphin calf following
its mother. This time, it has been accompanied by another grey bottlenose dolphin.
This means that they are mating, and leads to the speculation that Pinky is a female.

Some people claim that it has a rare genetic disorder, and not albinism. That isn t
proved. Others say that it is an Amazon River Dolphin, but its skin is smooth and
splotch free, unlike the Amazon River Dolphin. Albinism is rare in animals, but
possible. It occurs when the cells responsible of making the pigment melanin fail
to produce enough, or at all. This is usually because of a deformation in a gene(s).
Pinky s dolphin might have both been normal, gray bottlenose dolphins, but each
carrying a gene with this deformation, and that probably led to Pinky s unusual
colour. This isn t the first time an albino dolphin was sighted. Carolina Snowball
was a popular albino bottlenose dolphin displayed at the Miami Seaquarium in the
early 1960 s. During the summer of 1994 in Little Lake near New Orleans,
Louisiana an all white dolphin was spotted in a group of 4 5 individuals, but was
only seen for 20 to 30 minutes and never seen again. Another all white dolphin calf
was first observed in a group of more than 40 dolphins south of Galveston, Texas in
September 2003. Albinism in marine animals is extremely rare; there have been only
14 recorded sightings of albino bottlenose dolphins since

There is evidence of people living in the area over 15,000 years ago. These people
were nomadic and roamed all around South America. Around 2500 BC these people
began to grow crops and set up villages, instead of hunt and gather, and move around

18. Juvenile Delinquency Is An Integral Part Of Criminology
The greatest asset a nation has is in the form of children which form a major
portion of its population. So they should be allowed and provided opportunity to
become robust citizens, and to grow up physically fit, mentally alert and morally
healthy, being sufficiently endowed with skills and activations needed by the
society. Equal opportunities for development to all children during the period of
growth should be provided for reducing inequality and ensuring social justice, which
in turn would serve as an effective tool to curb delinquency in juveniles. Children are
expected to be obedient, respectful and imbibe virtues and good quality in them. Due
to various reasons children do not follow settled social and legal dictum. Juvenile
delinquency, as a legal concept is of recent origin. Juvenile delinquency is an integral
part of criminology. The two cannot be separated since one of the reasons for crime
and its continuance into adult life is the ineffective control and treatment of
juveniles. Juvenile delinquency is a big breading centre of criminals. The word
delinquency is derived from the Latin word delinquere meaning de i.e. away and
linquere i.e. to leave thus, meaning to leave or to abandon. Originally, the word had
an objective meaning as it referred to parents who neglected and abandoned their
children. In present day, it is used and applied to those children who indulge in
wrongful and harmful activities.
The term juvenile delinquency applies to violation of

Used Forklifts Forklifts or lift trucks happen to be high when needed, particularly

Lessons from a Third World Perspective on Environmentalism
Possibly more than any of the other articles we have read so far,
Ramachandra Guha s article Radical Environmentalism and Wilderness
Preservation: A Third World Critique made me think. In analyzing the
Western deep ecology movement, he criticized its focus on preservation of
wild areas. By doing this, he was directly criticizing what I have long
thought of as my main goal as an environmentalist. One of the first
things that turned me on to environmental issues when I was younger was my
horror at the soaring rate of rainforest destruction so dramatically
portrayed to us in 9th grade biology class. Since then, by following a
biology track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But reading the article, I was struck by
what we can learn from each other and from where we overlap.
Guha s article critiqued the four main tenants of deep ecology
(which are, as he sees them,: a shift from anthropocentric to biocentric
ethics, a focus on preservation of wilderness, an invocation of Eastern
spiritual traditions, and a perception of being the vanguard of current
environmentalism) in order to show that, as is, deep ecology would only
meet its goals at the expense of the Third World. He gave the example of
Project Tiger in India, in which Western preservationists organizations
encouraged the designation of a network of parks to preserve the tiger s
habitat but only by moving whole villages of people and prohibiting them
from using the land (272). Of course, this type of conflict between
21. protecting the habitat of an endangered species and letting the land be
used by locals does not only occur in Third World contexts it is a common
debate, including of course the famous Spotted Owl example within our own
country.
Although it seems clear that a conflict between anthropocentric and
biocentric world views is at work here, Guha claims that the dichotomy is
useless (271). I have also seen it as somewhat problematic, even from my
own biological
22. How To Create Tension In Back To The Future
One of the most fascinating films of 1985 explored the fantasy of time travel. The
film Back to the Future, directed by Academy Award winning Robert Zemeckis and
Steven Spielberg, was one of the most successful trilogies ever created. The film
follows an average high school student by the name of Marty Mcfly, and Doc Brown,
a crazy but genius scientist. Doc has created a timemachine disguised as Delorian,
that he s spent his entire life savings on. When Marty and Doc first test the time
machine, they are suddenly interrupted by Libyan terrorists, who Doc stole the
Plutonium from. Marty has no choice but to use the Delorean to go back in time.
Back to the Futureused incredible special effects, stunning songs, and an unbelievable
adventure to drive this filmto the top grosser of 1985. The film has earned its place
on the AFI top 100 films for its ability to stand the test of time. Marty... Show more

It leaves the audience thinking of different outcomes and consequences of Marty s
decisions. The more and more Marty tries to help his father try to get Loraine, the
more she falls in love with Marty. Tension grows the farther and farther apart his
parents grow apart. Some of the technical elements of suspense also show up. The
different camera angles used create different views from the characters. In the
dining scene where George is going to ask out Loraine, Biff shows up. Marty trips
him, and as Biff stands up, Marty s look of bravery changes to worry. The camera
angle is over Biffs shoulder, and shows only the eyes of Marty as he stands up.
Also, tension grows with Marty and Doc, as Marty knows when Doc dies.
Whenever Marty tries to tell Doc, he s either distracted by something, or Doc tells
him otherwise. At the end, when we are left with the thought of the same outcome,
we see how Doc did look at Marty s note, and then the tension is relieved. This is
also one of the main subplots of the
23. Essay on Organizational Behavior Terminology and
Concepts
Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts
The behavior of employees within any organization is paramount to the success or
failure of that organization. The study of organizational behavior is a science with its
own vocabulary and terminology. This essay will describe some of the more
common key concepts and terminology and relate those to the modern United States
Navy.
An organization is, simply, a body of people organized for some specific purpose
(communication, 2005). Organizational behavior is taking a look at the way humans
behave within a company (Schermerhorn, Hunt Osborn, 2005, p. 17). The United
States Navy, and perhaps all military branches, has, in some respects, a unique
organizational behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States Navy places much more emphasis on ensuring internal diversity
than it does on external diversity. It only has one customer, which is the United
States population. Diversity within this organization is ensured utilizing a quota
system. First and foremost, all able bodied men and women are allowed to join
without consideration for race, sex, religion or creed. Secondly, for promotion
purposes, the United States Navy utilizes a quota system to ensure fairness to all
candidates. This quota system is not utilized prior to the selection process but is
applied afterwards to validate the results.
The behavior, culture and diversity within an organization occur as a direct result of
both verbal and non verbal communication within that organization. Communication
is, The imparting, conveying, or exchange of ideas, knowledge, information, etc.
(whether by speech, writing, or signs) (Simpson, 2005). Good communication is a
vital key to the success of any organization. Communication is essential to the success
of the United States Navy. Ideas, knowledge and information are shared both up and
down the chain of command. Within the modern Navy, this exchanged is usually
done via personal contact or electronic means.
A certain way of assessing how well an organization is doing is to study its
effectiveness and efficiency. These two terms are similar and
24. Compare And Contrast The Kite Runner And Antigone
A moral or lesson is a message that is conveyed to be learned from a story or an
event. The Kite Runner follows the story of Amir and his childhood living in
Afghanistan with his friend Hassan and Antigone is a greek mythology play about
Antigone the daughter/sister of Oedipus, the play follows Antigone on a journey of
family loyalty. Works of literature often teach the readers a social or moral lesson,
both The Kite Runner and Antigoneteach a very well build lesson that affects the
reader s moral ethics. Both works of literature have similar themes throughout the
storyline that changes the reader s understanding which leads both the novel and the
play to have two very different morals.

In The Kite Runner, the main lesson readers learn is redemption. Amir makes a
mistake but in the end, learns from it. An example of this is when Assif is beating
up Amir: [Amir] What was so funny was that, for the first time since the winter of
1975 I felt at peace. I laughed because I saw that, in some nook in the corner of my
mind, I had been looking forward to this. (Hosseini 289). This quote shows us that
while Assif is beating Amir, Amir s guilt is dieing down and he is at peace. This
also shows that Amir would do anything for Hassan and in a way he is redeeming
himself for what he did to Hassan. The moral of The Kite Runner is that no matter
the sin, there is always a chance for redemption. The themes of loyalty, sacrifice and
betrayal that are present throughout this novel leads to the lesson of redemption for
Amir. In Antigone there are multiple lessons that the play teaches us, one of them is
that too much pride is going to lead to misfortune and another one is don t try to
change your fate. Both Antigone and Creon faced their misfortune for having
excessive pride. The Kite Runner and Antigone starts off with all the same themes but
in the end both Amir, Hassan, Antigone and Creon have different fate. For both
Hassan and Antigone, their loyalty takes them to their graves. The lesson readers

25. The Teachers Of The Teacher
All of the teachers I observed had many different ways to manage their classroom.
Many of their ways were similar, but there were some differences too. I noticed that
the female teachers used songs to get the children from one activity to another while
the male teacher went right into the next lesson. All of the teachers welcomed their
students as they came into the classroom. Mrs. Pollard sang the hello song to them
and Mrs. Kraus did as well. After they welcomed the children, all of the teachers had
their students go directly to their carpet spots. Mr. Leonhardt had three different
seating types for the students, which I thought was different yet effective. There were
team spots, dance lines and free seating. When the students were... Show more

Some of the teachers were stricter about handling this than others, but they were all
still effective. Both Mrs. Kraus and Mrs. Pollard had songs for a lot of their
transitions and Mrs. Pollard had a Sparkle Master to reward good behavior and give
the students a chance to stand out in class. It was a special way to get them involved
with singing to their classmates individually.
Mrs. Kraus had a process with the younger kids for continuity. She started with a
hello song of some sort and then had them sing their school song and patriotic songs.
Those were the kids warm ups. After those, she went right into the lessons. She did
not always introduce the concept, but she explained what the kids were going to do
that day. Mrs. Pollard was the only one who used the Orff instruments at my
observations, so whenever she had the kids go to the Orff instruments, she called
each row to line up at the Orff instruments and told them to be careful and not hit
them. The children already knew how they were supposed to go to the Orff
instruments because she had already made rules on how they act around them. When
they left the Orff instruments she called each row to stand up and walk single file out
of the rows of instruments.
Mrs. Kraus, Mr. Leonhardt and Mrs. Pollard were all Kodaly oriented in their lessons
and whenever they were doing the practicing part of the method, they were walking
around to make sure the students were doing the correct thing The

29. Mass Media And Its Effects On Society
Final Essay While there have been ideas and mass media in which we have access
to, there is small changes in which The United States as a whole has been affected.
There have been many discussions on how social media has played a part on
American culture as we are becoming more reliant on computers and technology as
well as we have in communicating. Social mediaand mass mediahas an affect modern
society as technology has grown, so will its effects on people. Mass media and
social media are, one social media is where anyone can exchange information to
their friends and family; and with regard to Twitter, their followers. While these
social media, mass media is where anyone can find information about anything
they want; these include Facebook, YouTube, and Blogs. There are other ways
that mass media can get in the hands of people and that is in the form of TV,
books, and newspapers. Mass media can be used by advertising in a way so they
can sell to those, whom they might not be able to, if it was not for the internet.
Firstly, the question of how does social media on the Internet affect American
culture, this can be answered in a few ways, such as the young kids in our country
as well as grownups have started to use short cuts when typing. Many people would
want to type, CU there , instead of typing out in proper English See you there . This
has led many people to become more frustrated, when they are asked a question, that
needs to be a long answer. This also has
30. Essay on The Republican Party
The Republican Party
The Republican party is one of the two major POLITICAL PARTIES in the United
States, the other being the DEMOCRATIC PARTY party. It is popularly known as
the GOP, from its earlier nickname Grand Old Party. From the time it ran its first
PRESIDENTIAL candidate, John C. Fremont, in 1856, until the inauguration of
Republican George BUSH in 1989, Republican presidents occupied the WHITE
HOUSE for 80 years. Traditionally, Republican strength came primarily from New
England and the Midwest. After World War II, however, it greatly increased in the
Sunbelt states and the West. Generally speaking, after World War I the Republican

The new party was a success from the beginning. In the 1854 congressional
elections 44 Republicans were elected as a part of the anti Nebraskan majority in
the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, and several Republicans were elected to the
SENATE and to various state houses. In 1856, at the first Republican national
convention, Sen. John C. Fremont was nominated for the presidency but was
defeated by Democrat James BUCHANAN. During the campaign the northern wing
of the KNOW NOTHING PARTY split off and endorsed the Republican ticket,
making the Republicans the principal antislavery party.
Two days after the inauguration of James Buchanan, the Supreme Court handed down
the Dred Scott v. Sandford decision, which increased sectional dissension and was
denounced by the Republicans. At this time the nation was also gripped by economic
chaos. Business blamed tariff reductions, and Republican leaders called for greater
tariff protection. The split in the Democratic party over the issue of slavery
continued, and in 1858 the Republicans won control of the House of Representatives
for the first time. One Republican who failed that year was Abraham LINCOLN,
defeated in his bid for a U.S. Senate seat by Stephen A. Douglas.

At the second Republican national convention, in 1860, a hard fought contest

32. Irony In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Kurt Vonnegut crafts the dystopian message of equality within Harrison Bergeron
through the use of ironic and absurd language. Beginning in the first lines of the
story, it jumps right in with, The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal,
(Vonnegut,34). He seems to emphasize on the irony of equality by drawing
attention to the word finally . It s quite peculiar or absurd how things would be if
everyone was equal and that s what Vonnegut proves in multiple points in the story
such as, Every twenty seconds or so, the transmitter would send out some sharp
noise to keep people like George from taking unfair advantages of their brains, (34).

thought of equality has been embedded into their brains as if more of a law and

Harrison in a very absurd and ironic way, she states, ... He is a genius and an

Mind you Harrison is only 14, he is in fact almost a prodigy and his intelligence is a

DHL was first found by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn in 1969 in
San Francisco. The name DHL these three initials actually stands for their last
name. At first, the company founders personally transported cargo documents from
San Francisco to Honolulu by plane thereby it significantly reduced waiting times
in the harbor. Customers saved a great deal of time as a result. The founding of
DHL also represented the creation of a new sector of industry: international air
express service rapid transport of documents and cargo papers by plane. The
company started their expansion in 70 s, it started from Philippines (1971) then
japan, Hongkong, Singapore and Australia (1972) and later in Europe (1974), Latin
America (1977), the Middle east and Africa (1978). It added its parcel delivery in
1979. Between 1985 and 1988 DHL doubles its customer base to more than half a

delivery company to anticipate the demand for total logistics solutions.

Reason for his second voyage was on the country. Pedro Cabral had conflicts with the

35. Pius XII Rationale
What was Pope Pius XII s rationale for not explicitly condemning the Nazi
persecution of the Jews? (How can we explain his diplomatic or strategic approach to
this issue?)
World War II was a contentious period in the long blighted history of Europe. By
1942 most of Europe was under a totalitarian regime, experiencing the most
conscientious effort to eradicate a race of people in history, the Holocaust. A
spectator of this carnage was the Catholic Church, whose leadership remained silent
towards the Holocaust. Pope Pius XII chose to combat the Nazis through quiet
diplomacy, never explicitly condemning the Nazi s treatment and massacre of the
Jews. Pius XII s silence was prompted by a number of factors, which he believed
were necessary to protecting the European Jews. At the beginning of the war, Pius
XII chose to leave any condemnation of the Nazis to the local bishops because he
believed that they were in a better position to assess the dangers posed by the
oppressive regimes. Pius XII felt that if had condemned the Nazis, he would have
endangered the Jews, citing that when a Catholic Bishop in Belgium spoke out
against the Nazi s 20,000 Jews were killed, if he had condemned the Nazis a
possible 400,000 Jews could have been killed in response. This rationalization comes
from the idea that in order to avoid exacerbating the situation, Pius XII would have to
remain silent against the Nazis. Pius XII s silence can be further explained by his
willingness to negotiate with the

Both works, albeit more so the Iliad than the Odyssey, serve as the chief source of
information about a pivotal event in Greek history: the Trojan War. Whether this war
happened exactly as it has been narrated is subject to debate, as any answer holds
very little evidence to be supported. However, the Greeks saw the Trojan War as the
first time there was unity within their culture as they all fought for a common goal.
As such, many regarded the Trojan war as an important event in defining the central
values and virtues of Greek culture; they would revisit these epics time and time

Quebec Cinema as National Cinema
Quebec has had a long association with the idea of independence from the rest of
Canada. The province has had two referendums to vote on whether it should separate
from Canada or not. However, this want for independence is not just shown in the
political sphere, but as well in its culture, and especially its film industry. Because of
this independence, the Quebec film industry should be viewed as a separate entity
from Canadian film, and not as a regional cinema of Canada. Quebec cinema is a
national cinema because of the protection of the French Canadian language and
culture, along with its refusal of the outside, and its specific use of the direct cinema.

French Canadian people as political separatism started to become a real possibility
for Quebec. Michel Houle even argues that the Quiet Revolution was started in part
due to the freedom of speech that came from the films of the early 1960s; they
instigated a sort of identity crisis in the people of Quebec (168). With this, film
production was also subject to the growing auteur principle, which stressed artistic
control, expressive freedom, and personal style in direction, independent of
established industry practices , (Reines 24 25). This meant that many film directors
started to take on their own styles and thusly formed a set of characteristics that
became standard of Quebec films: further rejection of outside film industries
practices, and the shift towards the le direct style of filmmaking (Gittings
41. Jim Hawkins In Treasure Island
In the book Treasure Island, there are two main characters, Jim Hawkins and Long
John Silver, the pirate and leader of mutineers. They sound nothing alike in the
beginning, the easily frightened Jim and the cunning and silver tongued Long John
Silver, but by the end of the story, the difference is not so profound as had been
expected. This, including the fact that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get
things done, even breaking a few rules. Jim Hawkins is the first characterintroduced
when writing down what had happened on the Island several years later. He starts
off to seem like a rather meek boy, who is afraid of the strange man in the Admiral
Benbow. This starts to change for Jim though when Billy Bones dies and he and
his mother learn of the pirates coming to the Admiral Benbow. He takes charge
when needed, as seen when he touches the body of the dead Billy Bones while
looking for a key to the chest Bones had. He also takes charge when the pirates storm
the Benbow and he keeps him and his mother hidden out of the sight of the pirates.
When Long John Silver is first introduced, however, he is in cheerful spirits (pg, 55)
and a clean, and pleasant tempered landlord (pg, 57). He is also described as very
loud and boisterous and seems to be a well liked man who is ... Show more content on

The television flickers, one of the few sources of light in the darkened room. The

the masses of onlookers as he drives in an extravagant procession. The ecstatic
hubbub of the jubilant parade crackles over the cheap speakers in the room.
A hushed couple sits in their home, surveying the cheerful scene. As they sit in a

The man leans over his project, making last minute preparations. He sits unsteadily

Suddenly, an enormous crashing noise sounds from the television, the flickering

The couple jumps, and they both glance up, suddenly rapt with renewed interest at

The articles by Keegan and Diamond describe the mystery of Easter Island and how
the society and people disappeared. Easter Island located off the coast of Chile in
South America. The theory that best explains both articles are cultural theory. The
cultural theory is the tradition and norms in society affects the way you make

called the webs of significance. Culture must be learned and constantly reproduced.
Culture is usually changed with variations from what is taught and learned (Lim,

In The Merchant of Venice William Shakespeare drastically opposes the
stereotypical female during the Italian Renaissance. Shakespeare s strongest
example of this is exemplified in Portia. She is introduced as a submissive women

for her marriage. However her cunningness is exposed through the casket contest,
her crossdressing during Antonio s trial, and the ring trick she pulls on her husband
Bassanio. In the article Passing Upon Portia author Trisha Olson believes that Portia

46. The Paradox Of Modernity
The promises and perils of European modernity reflect the fundamental paradoxes and
contradictions that Marshall Berman defines in All That Is Solid Melts into Air: The
Experience of Modernity. He recognizes that with modernity comes a perpetual
tension and uncertainty of social development and destruction, but believes it to be
inherently characteristic of a modernist to feel comfortable in this type of
environment. While Berman is ultimately optimistic about European modernity,
Fyodor Dostoevsky in Notes from Underground and H. G. Wells in The Time
Machinetell tales of caution regarding the risks of modern development and
democracy.
The paradox of modernity is the constant struggle between the desire for change and
the desire for stability. To be modern is to be both revolutionary and conservative:
alive to new possibilities for experience and adventure, [yet] frightened by the
nihilistic depths to which so many modern adventures lead. This contradiction can be
explained by Berman s interpretation of Marx s Communist Manifesto, which
demonstrates the ironic cycle of modernity. The capitalist bourgeoisie drive for
development and innovation to increase profits and maintain control of society is the
exact virtue that will inevitably remove them from power. The innovative spirits of
the economic system teach individuals the virtue of self development, and in order
for people to survive in modern society, their personalities must take on the fluid and
open form of a

The Shades of Romeo and Juliet The main conflict in Romeo and Juliet is the feud
between the Montagues and the Capulets. In Act I, scene V; of Romeo and Juliet
the nurse and Juliet converse about how Romeo is a Montague or the son of your
great enemy (Shakespeare). Shakespeare says this because the nurse and Juliet are
both Capulets and Romeo is a Montague. The play Romeo and Juliet starts off with
the Montagues and their biggest rivals the Capulets, having a brawl in the streets of
Verona. Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare, it is about two
young lovers that cannot be together because of the feuds between their families.

I ve always thought Romeo and Juliet was a powerful way to address the tragedy
within the black community, Scott said. You have these warring factions that
have forgotten why they are even fighting. In the play the young lovers die, and it
causes the two families to step back and reconsider what they are doing. But in
urban Black America, it does not seem to matter who dies or how many die the
violence continues (The City Paper). Although Romeo and Juliet, does not
mention anything about race, many people look at it like a racial conflict because
African Americans and whites did not always get along and some of them still do
not today. This play cam symbolize modern day gangs because of the Montagues
and the Capulets violence between them, and today we have modern day gangs that
have an ongoing conflict between them. Also, this play can represent the racial
conflicts, because in Romeo and Juliet, when Romeo and Juliet dies the two
families both take a step back and realize how ridiculous their feud is
(Shakespeare).Shakespeare states that, for the Montagues and the Capulets to get
over the feud they have, it takes a death of their son and daughter. However, our
society today does not back down when something bad happens they rebel back and

Lastly, humans are posing a threat not only to the existence of different kinds of

49. Loss Of Innocence In The Catcher In The Rye
The knowledge that makes us cherish innocence makes innocence unattainable.
(Irving Howe Quote) The classic novel, The Catcher in the Rye, demonstrates this
loss of innocence through a young boy s corruption of a poem by Robert Burns.
The poem is titled Coming Thro the Rye but the young boy misinterpreted one of
the lines. Instead of saying If a body meet a body, coming through the rye, the line
from the original poem, he sang If a body catch a body, coming through the rye.
(Salinger 129) This mistake becomes a symbol for the loss of innocence that occurs
when one grows up and continues to act as a metaphor for Holden s desire to protect
all children from that fate. Both the song Comin Thro the Rye, and the boy s
alteration of it, serve to accentuate the theme of loss of innocence throughout the
novel.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

trying to please anyone but himself. The boy is completely happy just singing for
himself. When Holden realizes this, he becomes less depressed and starts thinking.
This leads to the next example, which is when Holden actually uses the song as a
metaphor for the loss of innocence that occurs when one grows
50. Racial Tensions In Countee Cullen s Incident
Countee Cullen s Incident shows the racial tension in America between whites and
blacks. The speaker of the poem experiences racism for the first time. The Jim
Crow Laws also played a part in the racial tension between whites and blacks, the
only thing that the speaker of the poem remembers from his time in Baltimore is
being called a nigger , and the persona of the boy that called him a nigger was from
others who taught him to hate blacks. First, the Jim Crow Laws segregated the
whites and the blacks. The laws made it seem like the whites were better than the
blacks. Many blacks were upset about the laws and the way the whites treated them.
This led to the racial tension between the whites and blacks. Conflicts between the
two would happen
51. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Essay
Like sheep led to the slaughter; this is one of the most famous analogies used to
refer to the Jews during the holocaust. The Jews were being systematically
murdered, beaten, and abused day after day, and there was almost no refusal on their
part. Almost no one fought back. This however was not the case in the Warsaw
ghetto. Throughout the summer of 1942, nearly 300,000 Jews were deported from
the Warsaw ghetto to the Treblinka death camp. During this summer, a resistance
organization known as the Z.O.B. was formed. It was headed by the 23 year old
Mordecai Anielewicz, and was comprised primarily of young men. The deportations
halted in September, and the Z.O.B. began collecting whatever weapons they could

The Jews were able to keep up the resistance for about a month, but the fight was
officially ended on May 16 with the destruction of Warsaw s great synagogue
(ushmm.org). About 7,000 Jews were killed during the uprising, and another
7,000 deported, but a few hundred German soldiers fell as well (history.com).
Preparing for the resistance brought up both feelings of terror, and excitement over
the fact that the Nazis would not be able to get away with at least one of their
plans so easily. Zivia Lubetkin, who was a resistance fighter in the ghetto,
describes the feeling of the resistance organization on the 18th of April after getting
the news of the final roundup that was to take place the next day. She says [e]ven
though we were prepared, and had even prayed for this hour, we turned pale. A
tremor of joy mixed with a shudder of fear passed through all of us. But we
suppressed our emotions and reached for our guns (Gilbert 557). Resistance was a
new idea to the Jews. Since the Nazis had taken over, the Jews had found themselves
in a rather helpless situation. There was almost no way to escape the ghettos, and
those who did manage to make it out knew they were costing the Jews they had left
behind. This was the first real attempt at an actual organized armed resistance.
Lubetkin tells how the Germans were determined, especially after being forced to
retreat in January, but so were the Jews. Determination was certainly something
52. Lao Tzu Analysis
Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply
gives you courage (Lao Tzu). Lao Tzu is a Chinese philosopher who lived in the
sixth century B.C and his work has embraced by both various anti authoritarian
movements. This quotes interact with the ancient text the Tao Te Chin because
they both describes love have a strength and that strength allows the leader to
encounter challenges. Tzu believed if masters are love by his people is the best
ruler because the leader gain strength from the people love and loving all the
citizens in the state allows ruler to do favorable things for the people. Government
vicious qualities is better than the virtuous qualities because nefarious character of a
ruler strictly controls people and prevent them to do unacceptable
things.Furthermore, Government is best when people fear of them because Adolf
Hitler is a brutal leader and he cause the holocaust, however many people likes him
because they believe everything he did to protect Germany. On the contrary, Tzu
classified leader as a four different categorize and he mention when the master
governs and the people do not realize the master present is the best government
because he likes an anarchic system, so no one can control over him. His views are
corresponds with a Thoreau s view on government and he also comments that
government is best which governs not at all . This describes that there is a similarity
between Thoreau and Tzu because when government

Confucius is the founder of Confucianism. The name Confucius is the Latin name

the yin yang. Yin yang are the two countervailing forces of the universe, each
necessary for balance yet each constantly changing in power. Yin refers to any thing
that is negative, yang refers to anything that is positive. The irony is that these two
things tell people everything they know, it is impossible for the both not to be in
coexistence with each other. This is saying that life attracts opposites, such as: good
and evil, light and darkness, and war and peace. It shows the two opposites, yin and
yang, eternally pursuing each other in a harmonious way. It is true they are opposites,
but there is no conflict, there is only balance.
This drawing symbolizes the way life should be lived. No one can hope for all
pleasure and no pain, or all life and no death, or all happiness and no waiting, or all
agreement and no disagreement. This means that no one s life can be set to
perfection, there is always room for adjustments. If harmonious interplay between

55. Duality In Life In The Dao De Jing, By Laozui
According to Daoists, the Dao De Jing, written by Laozi, serves as a manual on
how to operate in life. Dao De Jing translates to The Book on the Way and its
Virtues (Daoism 1, p. 4). This classic Chinese piece of philosophical literature was
written during the Warring States Period in China, a time of political instability.
The majority of the Dao De Jing provides ideas to strengthen the nation and bring it
to peace, reflecting ideas that revolve around a chaotic kingdom. One of the earlier
passages in the Dao de Jing express of duality in life. In chapter 2, Loazi writes,
Recognize beauty and ugliness is born. Recognize good and evil is born (Daoism 1,
p. 12). Loazi is expressing the concept of yin yang. Yin encapsulates femininity,
softness, flexibility, gentleness and yielding. Yang encapsulates masculinity, force,
rigidness. One form cannot exist without the other. Identifying and classifying beauty
creates a standard. Anything below that standard is deemed as ugliness. By assigning
meaning to things, humans create two extremes. Initially, someone appeared a
certain way, and after assigning meaning to their appearance, they are now classified
as beautiful or ugly. Similarly, labelling specific actions as good, automatically sets
the standard of the opposite action as evil.During the 1920s in the United States,
prohibition was in full effect. The manufacturing, sale, possession and consumption
of alcohol was banned in the country. Common folk who
56. Feminine Power In Gilead
Serena Joy
The society which Atwood has created in her novel is one which is divided into two
separate spheres of existence , namely the public and domestic sphere. These spheres
originated from the ideology that first appeared in the 19th century, with its notion
that separate spheres existed for men and women, where women were associated
with family and children (Purvis). In Gilead, men exert all social control, monopolize
power, and occupy the public sphere, [and] women [were] essentially powerless and
relegated to the domestic sphere (Mohr 245), however, it could be argued that women
within the novel s domestic sphere were not essentially powerless . Atwood presents
this argument by demonstrating the power that women have within a domestic ...

By describing the Wife s garden as her domain , Atwood implies that Serena Joy is
in complete power, as domain has military connotations and is defined as an area of
territory owned or controlled by a particular ruler or government . Therefore, by
using the word domain in this context, Atwood could be comparing Serena Joy s
position to a dictator in a dictatorship, highlighting the absolute control she has within
her domain and emphasizing the existence of a social hierarchy in Gilead. Serena s
power within the household is further emphasized when the reader learns that he [the
Commander] wouldn t be able to intervene, to save me [Offred]; the transgressions of
women in the household, whether Martha or Handmaid, are supposed to be under the
jurisdiction of the Wives alone (Atwood 170), when Offred begins to realize that her
clandestine relationship with the Commander might be discovered by Serena Joy.
This illustrates how within the household, Serena Joy holds more power than the
Commander, a male character, and hence shows that even within a patriarchy, there
are instances where a woman holds more power. However, the garden is a domestic
environment, alluding to the domestic sphere in which Serena Joy belongs, and
suggests that her power is restricted to this sphere and she is unable to influence that
