Thomas Hobbes Social Contract Theory
Social Contract Theory is the view that a persons moral and/or political obligations are dependent
upon a contract or agreement among them to form the society in which they live. It is rightly
associated with modern moral and political theory and is given its first full exposition and defense by
Thomas Hobbes (Friend). Thomas Hobbes, an English philosopher (1588 1679), lived through a very
vital period of the English Civil War, which lasted from 1642 1648. During this time, the King and the
Monarchists wanted the traditional authority of a monarchy, while the Parliamentarians did not.
Hobbes had an important role in this, because he symbolized a settlement between the two groups.
Not only did he reject the theory of the Divine Right of Kings, he also rejected the Parliamentarians
democratic view that power should be shared between the King and Parliament. He possesses both
radical and conservative characteristics because he rejects both views.
One could divide Hobbes political theory into two parts: the first being his theory of human
motivation followed by his theory of the social contract, which is based off the theoretical State of
Nature. Hobbes theory of human motivation, better known as Psychological Egoism, is the thesis that
we are always deep down motivated by what we perceive to be in our own self interest (Friend). The
second part of his theory is based on the social contract, which was established on the theoretical State
of Nature. Hobbes published the

Essay On Australian Federation
Between the first fleet landing in Australia until the year 1900, Australia had six different governments
enforcing different taxes, with their own militia trying to stay self sufficient and was not recognized as
a nation. Australia relied immensely on British support and the governments of Australia realised that
If there was any threat of war Australia would not be adept enough to protect itself. In 1901 the six
current British ruled colonies in Australia came together to create the Commonwealth of Australia,
these six colonies became the original six states of Australia. New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland,
South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. I recently took a trip to Parliament house in
Canberra, ACT where I learnt about the process and power of the Federation from our local M.P.
Jamie Briggs. The federation of Australia was designed to allow the public to have a voice in the
matters brought to parliament. In my opinion the federation of Australia went on to develop and
become one of the world s fairest and most accepting governments. According the Australian
Constitution (the most important document in Australian federation history) the states are allowed to
self govern things that happen within their boundaries, (e.g. police, hospitals, education and public
transport ). Therefore the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Recruitment Proposal For Senior Level Talent
MEMORANDUM
TO: CEO, HSS
FROM: Alyise Johnson, HR Director
DATE: April 29, 2015
SUBJECT: Recruitment and Staffing Proposal for Senior Level Talent As requested during our last
meeting, you shared with me your personal desire and HSS s need to establish a new recruitment and
selection process for employing senior level staff. Below I have provided a few of the top options that
the organization can easily put in place for the use of recruiting and selection new senior level staff.
Recruitment Methods Recruiting suitable candidates that are able to adequately handle and manage
senior level positions of the organization takes a great deal of time and patience. Placing
inexperienced individuals into advanced positions within HHS could ... Show more content on

2. Recruiters. For organizations that do not have the time or the resources to find suitable candidates,
they hire headhunters and recruiting companies to do the searching for them. These headhunters and
recruiters hunt down the best individuals in their particular fields, having thoroughly researched their
complete background, including their experience and accomplishments, and basically sell these
individuals to the appropriate organization. (Sutton, 2009) These companies also certify the candidates
they recommend, providing a money back guarantee if an organization is not completely satisfied after
a specific period of time.
3. Gamification. Gamification is the use of gaming principles and design in non gaming situations and
identifies potential employees by posing virtual challenges that require the skills necessary for a given
job. Gamification is effective because it can test a skill set, associate the company with something
people enjoy and produce a virtual feel for the culture of a particular workplace.
Selection Methods Selecting suitable candidates for senior level positions of the organization is also
an essential undertaking. There are several considerations an organization must take into an account
about a candidate before hiring them.
1. Credentials Assessment. It is very important to know what experience and skillset a candidate
brings with

The Natural Environment
How does the natural environment influence culture?
There is a myriad of varying definitions for the word culture. Instead of defining culture in general
terms, it is often defined by how it is related to the environment; and consequently, how it is affected.
Culture provides direction, and reason. Throughout history, people have remained stalwart and true to
their roots and traditions. However, it has become evident that, with the changing environment, many
traditional practices have had to adapt. Climate change is a key component causing this adaptation.
Through reflecting upon environmental relativism, and cultural aspects, such as subsistence patterns,
economic systems, and religion and world view, it can be concluded that the natural environment
influences culture by causing environment based traditions to mould to external factors.
Environmental relativism can be defined as follows: the ways in which certain aspects of the physical
environment are relevant to cultures and traditions. It is how the environment relates to a culture
(personal communication, Kathy Rettie, September 7, 2017). The environment is an ever changing
system; it often cannot be predicted. Climate change, such as warmer winters, rising sea levels, and
changes in precipitation, provide evidence that the individuals affected by the physical environment
must change their way of life to adapt. This is particularly true for many nomadic cultures, who base
their survival off the changing weather

Analysis Of The Employee Rights Act
Many consider ads to be most influential type of rhetoric. City dwellers in the United States view
nearly 5000 ads per day and these highly impact the processes of purchase, decision making, and even
voting (Johnson). A well constructed ad has the ability to change laws. An example of an attempt to
amend established legislature is The Employee Rights Act ( The Bill ). Through the uses of proper
circulation in response to exigency, the built credentials, and form of the ad, viewers may be
persuaded to vote in favor of the bill. Through correct circulation, the ad will be able to accomplish
the majority vote for the proposed bill. The Employee Right Act was sponsored by Tennessee
Republican Representative David Roe, from the Education and ... Show more content on

The ad, when placed in a general support area, even with the fallacy, will create a broader support
network. This ad appeals to readers and by being placed in a weekly published magazine, it will
impact voter turnout. This ad, out of several researched, has built the most credentials. The right half
of the ad has listed co sponsors of the bill, of whom include 75% of Idaho congressmen: Senator
James Risch (an original sponsor of the bill), Senator Mike Crapo, and Representative Raul Labrador,
and 2016 Conservative Presidential Candidates: Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Marco Rubio. Out of
the 149 sponsors, all are of the Republican party ( S.1774 Employee Rights Act ). Humans tend to be
obedient to fault, especially in representative democracy, where citizens elect and trust the politically
elite. Often Americans vote based solely on partisan politics. Party labels grant the expected way for
the representatives to act ( Political Parties ). These ways are implied and people tend to vote primarily
for the label and in magazines, which are quick reads and not research databases, these biases are
important. With these credentials, the act may be passed within the near future. This ad has a unique
look compared to the majority of magazine prints. This ad upon first glance may deceive readers into
thinking it s an article, which may draw more attention. The majority of information is textual rather
than visual pictures. The

Ineffective Human Resources Leads At The Performance Gap...
Ineffective Human Resources leads to the performance gap. There is no doubt that there are an
insufficient number of lab technicians which might have caused deficiencies in human resources.
However, the organization has eminently framed the lab hours of the diagnostic department in a
structured way, so that a technician is available for every scheduled appointment at each lab.
Dr. Lalitha agreed on early check up for Mrs. Kumari. She has eminently utilized the available time
generated due to the absence of another patient. She was successful in synchronizing the demand and
capacity.
The lack of new curtains and air fresheners questions the efficiency of the inventory control. The
organization must assign a person to check inventory on a regular basis to avoid any shortage.
Every individual in the hospital have his or her equal contribution towards overall service quality,
including the customer himself/herself. Patients are expected to have a minimum knowledge of their
roles and responsibilities to get real and persistent services. Karuna did not read the website
thoroughly, before blaming the hospital personals, for not providing transport services. She and her
father did not use the option to call to the hospital for assistance in filling the forms. The patient from
the next bed started screaming, without even thinking how it wound impact the other patients.
Proper education and training is the only way to reduce this type of service gap. The organization must
assign

High Risk Drivers
Teens are the number one cause of accidents in the United States, and the number of teen accidents is
still rising. Most of the teen accidents that have occurred have included them having several
passengers in the car with them. Teen drivers become more distracted when they have teenage peers in
the car with them, and this causes them to engage in more potentially risky behaviors. Many
researchers are debating if teens should even be allowed to drive with more than one passenger in the
car with them. Teens under the age of 19 are more likely to die in accidents than adults. A number of
studies have shown that passengers substantially increase the risk of crashes for young, novice drivers
(Goodwin). The increased risk results from distractions that young passengers create for drivers. The
presence of passengers may increase the likelihood of teenage drivers engaging in explicitly risky
behaviors. Four potentially risky driving behaviors were examined in the driving clips speeding faster
than other potentially moving vehicles, speeding too fast for the situation, following too closely, ...

It has been said that, the risk of a teen being killed in an accident decreases when they have an adult
sibling in the vehicle with them (Mohn). Researchers have said it is unclear if this affects the safety of
young drivers. Although siblings could just as well distract teen drivers like their peers would. When
teens transported younger siblings, loud conversations and horseplay were more prevalent than when
teens were carrying parents or adults (Goodwin). Despite the fact that adults are known as being the
better drivers, whose there to say that they are. Just because they are adults does not mean they aren t
reckless drivers themselves. So an adult sibling or parent riding as a passenger with a reckless teen
driver may seem normal to them because they drive the same exact

Possible Cause Of Schizophrenia Essay
Possible Cause for Schizophrenia Schizophrenia, defined by the National Institute of Mental Health is
...a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves... Sufferers
of this mental illness have many symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, difficulty finding
happiness, reduced speaking, trouble focusing, and many other symptoms which greatly impact their
quality of life. Around two million Americans are diagnosed with this illness, although not much is
known about it. Scientists have still not been able to pin point what causes schizophrenia. Due to this
there is no cure, only treatments to try and dull the symptoms. Steven McCarroll and Beth Stevens

The part of the brain that is mostly impacted is the prefrontal cortex, which helps with thinking and
planning. The team focused on a location in the human genome called the MHC. They found that the
MHC has four variants of C4, which produced two different proteins, C4 A and C4 B. After analyzing
64,000 people they concluded that schizophrenics were more likely to have overactive forms of C4 A
than non schizophrenic people. This finding made them believe the C4 A was the gene which may
cause schizophrenia. This idea was then tested by Dr. Stevens, an assistant professor of neurology.
Mice were used in the experiment to see if the nonexistence of the gene which produces C4 would
impact the synaptic pruning. The experiment showed that the mice bred without the C4 producing
gene showed a problematic synaptic pruning process. This further supported McCarroll and Steven s
theory that too much C4 A causes an excessive amount of pruning during development of the brain.
This all explains why schizophrenics have a thinner prefrontal

The Effects Of Climate Change On The State Of Colorado
It is undeniable that climate change is drastically changing our current landscapes throughout the
world. There are many individuals who consider climate change to be a natural and organic
progression, but many studies indicate that due to excess greenhouse gas emissions, humans are
accelerating global warming at an alarming rate. It s convenient to continuously dismiss the studies
and evidence that suggest climate change is real and it could have serious consequences, but when
these drastic changes are taking place in our own backyard, it becomes a harsh reality. There is
longstanding research, which indicates that the Colorado River has been in a drought since the early
2000 s and researchers allege that due to rising temperatures, the ... Show more content on

According to Dr. Denning, as the global climate changes, average temperatures will rise sharply.
Because Colorado is so far inland, this effect will be stronger because large bodies of water help
mitigate temperature swings and Colorado is far from our oceans or Great Lakes. Imagine the climate
of Albuquerque as far north as Greeley. Additionally, we must consider the agriculture industry is
estimated to be worth around forty one billion dollars in Colorado, which means climate change will
have a drastic impact on food production. Colorado s geographic location is problematic in itself, but
the continuous temperature changes means longer growing seasons. Ultimately, the rising
temperatures make plants consume more water and it reduces the annual snowpack, which creates a
conundrum of issues. Similarly, we can assume a warmer Colorado will also mean a much drier
Colorado, which will hurt agriculture on every level.
A report submitted to the Colorado Energy Office, titled The Colorado Climate Change Vulnerability
Study presents key vulnerabilities the state is faced with due to climate change. The report highlights
many areas, but it offers insight into negative effects from climate variability and how to adapt to
them. Since the agricultural sector plays such a critical role in Colorado s economy, its vulnerabilities
are detailed at length. The report splits

Gattegno And The Silent Way
Caleb Gattegno (1911 1988), one of the most prominent and productive educators of the twentieth
century, is best known for his innovative approaches to teaching and learning foreign languages (The
Silent Way). In 1972, Caleb Gattegno introduced The Silent Way, that is, a language teaching method
whose basic concept is that the teacher should remain silent much of the time, thus its name while the
students speak as much as possible. In the same way, Gattegno was under the impression that the
teacher should focus on the way students learn more often rather than how to teach. In fact, he
expressed support for language learning by problem solving, creative, discovering activity and all that,
which is directly opposed to drills such as seen in audiolingualism. He, on the other hand, contends
that students could naturally earn a new language like a child, through perception, awareness,
creativity, and other mental processes. Besides being critical of linguistic theory, he devoted his
thinking to a pedagogical perspective called the subordination of teaching to learning in that learners
demands are placed at the center of teaching, so teaching is subordinate or dependent to learning.
Gattegno holds that understanding the spirit of a language that ... Show more content on

The Formula For The Inverted Pyramid
The author s employs the formula for the inverted pyramid in several scenarios as they emphasize the
importance of maintaining the employee s attention and focus with attention grabbing headlines and
subject lines. (The email headliner will generally dictate whether someone opens it or deletes it). With
the examples given from the book the most important part of the information your giving to the
receiver needs to be the first thing that they are seeing it or else it won t work. Employees are just like
the general population as humans, we process information, and data according to what we deem is
important. With the Inverted pyramid, we see how media, movie posters, and movie previews draw
your attention and summarize their pitch in a matter of seconds, as time is the essence now more than
ever. (Davis and Shannon, 2011)
Comparing Davis s (2011) concepts to academic journal of Karen Mishra (2014) Driving Employee
Engagement: The Expanded Role of Internal Communications, (p. 183 202) there are similarities and
proof of validity of our classroom book. Engagement, defined as the degree to which an individual is
attentive absorbed in the performance of their roles. Mishra (2014) states that face to face
communication for some employees is still a key and prevalent concept; it should not be dismissed to
convey messages when needed. Even in this case, the inverted pyramid concept of talking would be
best. Always stating your most important information first to make sure,

was given a choice just as any young women or man is given a choice at the time of heartache,

the feelings of vengeance and revenge. Medea made a clear minded choice to follow the hurt and the
want of revenge to justify what happened to the life she once knew. Medea made the choice to poison
the new wife and the children. The actions were thought of and acted upon and only a woman strong,
clear minded and out for pure revenge could ever do these things. Medea spoke clearly of each detail

In cases of abuse, abortion should be legal because having the child may cause further psychological
trauma. If a woman was a victim of rape, having the child may be mentally impossible, knowing the
child was conceived via rape. The mother of the child could have complications preventing her from
the child or she just could not afford to raise a child. With legal abortion, there would no longer be a
debate on what is a suitable abortion. If abortion is only legal for those that are abused, either by rape
or incest, the victim would have to prove that was the case. By making abortion legal in all cases, the
victim would be allowed to have the abortion and not worry about proving how she was pregnant.
Mental abuse is another form of abuse. When a man tells a woman to get rid of the baby or she cannot
afford to raise a child, the woman has the right to get an abortion if she fears for her own life. If the
mother is physically abused, it can cause major health problems for the mother and the baby. The
mother can be brutally beaten and the child can be either still born, meaning the baby is dead when it
is born, or it can be born with birth defects. Enduring physical abuse while pregnant can cause several
complications leading to an

Dynamic Stretching Research Paper
There are several factors that tie into aiding a great recovery; Mobility is amongst them. Mobility is
the ability to move freely and easily. The desired goal of continued mobilization is to slowly increase
the athlete s range of motion (ROM). This requires much work such as dynamic stretching after
workouts or just every day routines. Dynamic stretching has been proven to be quite effective when it
comes to maintaining health and ROM. For some Athletes, dynamic stretching may require aid tools
to help release the build up of accumulated lactic acid that basic stretching cannot reach. This type of
stretching would be one that the end position is not held, for instance, walking lunches, and walking

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, otherwise known as DOMS, happens when the muscle tissue is
stressed beyond what it is accustomed to. The stresses on the muscles cause microscopic tears to the
muscle fibers, which then lead to delayed soreness, stiffness, and discomfort making it difficult to

in some cases death. When there is an extremity that is cut off from blood flow, the tissues in that

cause the heart to stop beating. This situation is very common in crush injuries; emergency personnel

Foul Is Fair In Macbeth
Imagine. You see your son being dragged away. There s nothing you can do about it. You reach out to
him. You re told it s for the better. You remember. Remember the times when you played with him,
watched him grow up. Anger. Anger rising that you can t stop. Angry at the government. Angry at
unfair treatment. It s unfair. It s foul. But that s not what they think, they think it s fair, that foul is fair.
You might be thinking, what is he going on about? The Stolen Generation? The treatment of
Aboriginal people? Land Rights? Fair is Foul, Foul is Fair . It s a very tricky concept. We find it in
literature, media, political speeches and in everyday life. It is extensively explored in Shakespeare s
Macbeth, where it means that appearances are often deceptive, and that things are different than what
they appear to be. It points towards deception where appearance is not reality. Shakespeare s Macbeth,
encounters the witches and they plant the idea in his head that he deserves to be king. This makes him
vulnerable to his ambitious wife and leads to his downfall as he becomes increasingly entangled in his
own ambitious and murderous deeds. Although, in real life, it is used as a paradox, a paradigm, a

who present their dual personalities to the public, motivated purely by self interest rather than acting

George Mcclellan And Robert E. Lee
In war, the commander in chief makes or breaks the efficiency and effectiveness of the army. The
Civil War involved 3 main commanders in chief of the Union and Confederate Army. Through letters
written by these three leaders, Ulysses S. Grant, George McClellan and Robert E. Lee, it is evident
that their opinions and strategies differed greatly. While Grant considered himself part of the army,
Lee separated himself as a ruling commander. Grant s humble nature and vast knowledge on war
technique also made him a more efficient leader, compared to the egotistical George McClellan,
another commander of the Union army. Ultimately, Grant and the union army won the war, because of
Grant s hands on leaderships skills, while Lee lacked confidence in his troops, causing him to remove
himself from his men.
Throughout his time as commander in chief of the union army, Ulysses S. Grant understood and
appreciated the commitment his soldiers made, as suggested by letters to his family, which forced him
to focus greatly on war technique, ultimately allowing him to be a great leader of the Union army. In a
letter written to his Father, in which he discusses the war, Grant states, I do not wish to act hastily or
unadvisedly in the matter. Grant s cautiousness and attention to details, when his troops and his army
are concerned, shows that all decisions he makes concerning his troops have been carefully thought
out, so he doesn t put his troops in danger. Grant wishes to give all the

The Public s Trust Act Of Law Enforcement
Literature Review of Trust
I want to focus on the public s trust in the profession of law enforcement. Law enforcement
administrators are always looking for ways to enhance their departments image to the communities
they serve. This is a tough task because there are many factors that go into the public s perception of
law enforcement. While a local agency may have a good relationship with its community an incident
may happen across the country with the police misconduct and the local agencies reputation is
damaged because of it. Police Officers have accepted a position that holds a great deal of authority and
their actions are performed in the public eye. They are held by their communities to very high
standards, with traits such as honesty, integrity, equity and professionalism being some of the most
important. Every day thousands of police officers throughout the country do their job in a manner that
is exemplary but it takes the actions of just one officer to tarnish all of these good works.
Unfortunately these situations happen too often and seem to be increasing at an alarming rate.
We define trust as a certain belief and a sense of assurance that is based on strong but not logically
conclusive evidence, or based on some ones character, their ability, or truth that someone or something
has shown over a period of time or over experiences (Cambridge, 2015). Trust makes for a sense of
being safe or of being free of fear, enough so that one s focus can be on

Rachael s Role As An Ineffective Leader
As a Naval Officer and nurse, I sit through numerous meetings on any given day. I participate in
staffing meetings, competency meetings, process improvement meetings, patient care meetings, and
planning meetings, just to name a few. While sitting through and participating in different meetings, I
am able to witness several leadership styles; some good and some bad. The most common style
employed by higher level leaders (Admirals, Commanding Officers, and Officer s In Charge) is
distributive leadership while lower level leaders (Division Officers, Department Heads, and Chiefs)
tend to use the expectancy theory, both discussed in our Green (2013) text. However, being under
ineffective leadership for the last three years, I have seized the opportunity to learn what styles, traits,
and actions are ineffective and why different levels of leaders employ different leadership styles. ...

never make eye contact when speaking with more than two people. She also employs passive
aggressive tactics which could be a result of her lack of self confidence. However, while I do not truly
know the reasons for her lack of self confidence, poor communication skills, and passive
aggressiveness, I do know those are ineffective leadership traits and I will not employ those as I gain

Observations on Magical Realism Essay
Observations on Magical Realism
What is magical realism? Many people have conflicting ideas about when and who first used the term.
It is likely that most people are completely confused when confronted with this subject, but after they
read a few papers on magical realism, it becomes a little clearer. The papers that Amaryll Chanady,
Luis Leal, Angle Flores, Franz Roh, and Scott Simpkins wrote have been helpful in studying the
history and theory of magical realism. Each paper has many good points in it, but the authors argue so
much over who is right or wrong that it is hard to decide who to agree with.
Angel Flores has several good points in his essay on magical realism. He says that it has been studied
mostly through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used magical instead of mystical to show that the mystery does not descend to the represented
world but rather hides and palpitates behind it (qtd in Leal 120). Roh says, Expressionism shows an
exaggerated preference for fantastic, extraterrestrial, remote objects. He also says that it employs
various techniques inherited from the previous period, techniques that endow all things with a deeper
meaning and reveal mysteries that always threaten the secure tranquillity of simple and ingenuous
things (16 18). Then he states that Expressionism is shown by varied designs of spherical, colored, and
deformed shapes while Impressionism is by exquisite colors (19). Roh believes that Post
Expressionism offers is the miracle of existence in its imperturbable duration (22). He then goes on to
say that this new art is situated resolutely between extremes, between vague sensuality and highly
structured schematics, as true philosophy may be located between ingenuous realism and exalted
idealism (23). Art can also have a spiritual meaning. Roh says in art the point is not to discover the
spirit beginning with objects but, on the contrary, to discover objects beginning with the spirit (24).
Luis Leal disagrees with several of the things that Flores says. He believes that it was Roh, not
Borges, that first used magical realism (120). He also states that it

A Solid Home Essay
Hello everyone! Welcome to our first meeting for the production of A Solid Home . I am very excited
about what we can create together and I want us to be able to get started right away. For this
production, our guiding concept is going to be Death can be livelier than life. Firstly, I want to start
with the set design. Now in the text, Garro states that the play is located in a room with stone walls,
and no windows or doors. Now, this will be the base of the play, however to express the concept I
want to liven the space up. I think that painting a window and curtains on the upstage wall would help
create a more welcoming space. This would also allow for interesting blocking as we could have the
characters looking out the window, daydreaming as the reminisce about their reincarnations. Next, I
want a minimalistic amount of furniture, and I want these to be on the more neutral side, coming in
colors of white, tan and light grey, as furniture has no life to it. The place should also look lived in,
should feel like a home, with pillows on the furniture and books and knickknacks on any tables. This
will allow the characters to stand out, as they are the life of the play and their home is more than just a
crypt. Next, talking about the characters, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I want to treat this part of the play not like the characters are disappearing but as if they are finally
living out their purpose. Therefore, the characters should not be scared, but should project their joy so
that the audience can feel it. Each should exit out of the trapped door, one by one, however the other
characters should never acknowledge when another character leaves. This is just another aspect of the
characters living their life. Lydia is the last character to disappear . When this happens, I want her to
look and smile at the audience and right when she starts to go down the trap door, the lights will cut

Little Flower Character Analysis
Employing household names, rather than less known actors, Jia reduces the possibility for audiences,
especially the Chinese, of jumbling up the interviewing with acting. In other words, the intention of
docuficiton is not to gloss over the conflicts between the natural and artificial, but to highlight the
difference and to show the self conscious about mimicry in representation (Deppman 205). The
quality of self reflexivity is most explicit in the case of Gu Minhua, played by veteran actor Joan
Chen, who was given the nickname, Little Flower, because she resembles the heroine in the one time
popular movie, Little Flower, which in reality was starred by Joan herself. Later comes the scene
where Gu Minhua is watching Little Flower. The juxtaposition between the character/actress and her
representative work further parodies the boundary between the fact and fiction, and the authority of
one single voice in the process of conceptualising the time space. In the context of China, it confronts
the hegemony of revolutionary realism since Mao era till today, referring to a powerful delusion to
justify the Chinese past, and to generate political passions for the present and future (Donald 273).
The revolutionary realism is similar to the Aristotelian drama in Brecht s sense, which provides a
hypnotic experience by alluring spectators to empathise with the heroic characters. The instructive
theatre, by contrast, disentangles the audiences from the dramatic plot through

Jesus Death Allusion
Immediately preceding Jesus death by crucifixion an oral tradition of recounting the story began to
take hold. Numerous scriptures in Evolution of the Word by Marcus J. Borg, the primary version of
the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) Bible that will be used in this paper, contradict each other
not only while recounting the death of Jesus but, a plethora of times while recounting his life or the
interpretations of his message. Even though scriptures contradict each other at every turn it is hardly
enough evidence to simply proclaim that the Bible is false. Oral tradition simplified is the passage of
significant events, like Jesus crucifixion, from one generation to the next via speech. Antiquity was a

the Gospel of Mark was tailored towards early Christians, the majority of which were Jewish. Roman
power had decimated the Jewish Temple and many believed that the second coming was near,
including Mark. Due to the common belief among Christians and Christian Jews that the second
coming was near Mark tailored his death narrative to appeal to his community. Mark writes in verse
15:34 that before Jesus death he cried out with a loud voice My god, my God, why have you forsaken
me? Mark uses this statement as Jesus last because he wants the Jewish Christians to better align with
Jesus. Since the Jewish Temple no longer stood, Jews felt like they were no longer in the presence of
God or that they were forsaken, which aligned them with Jesus. Doctor J. Bradley Chance a professor
at William Jewell College stated that The temple has ceased to be what it is supposed to be; rather, it
has become an instrument of exclusion of both the people of God and non Jews. Mark addresses this
by writing verses 15:37 39 which stated that upon Jesus last breath the curtain of the temple was torn
in two. By using this wording Mark is attempting to illustrate that God is no longer off limits to Non
Jews, and that God is no longer confined to the Temple. During Mark s narration of Jesus death he
was not only retelling a tragic story, he was unveiling the path to God to non Jews and Jews by using
literary devices to bring them closer to

American Imperialism And The Laguna Pueblo History
Events that occur throughout a period of time have an interesting effect on the people, places, and
landscapes around it. In the course of history, particularly the history of North American Indigenous
Peoples, we can see how events have influenced their way of life. Since the arrival of Europeans in
North America, it is easy to notice how a singular event can cause shifts within indigenous cultures,
communities and the landscape. Although shifts within and between cultures and communities can be
good, the shifts Native Americans faced with the arrival of Europeans were usually not. For centuries
Natives struggled to preserve their lands, culture, and people as they were slowly being assimilated
into the new Euro American way of life and colonization. In this, we can not only see the works of
Euro American hegemony but also the fight of Natives to defend and protect their cultural sovereignty.
Throughout the course of this essay I am going to explore the ways in which Euro American
hegemony and the fight to preserve culture relate to the Laguna Pueblo history in the novel,
Ceremony, by Leslie Marmon Silko.
The novel, Ceremony, takes place in the early 19th century in the southwest United States. We meet
the main character Tayo who is half white and half Laguna Pueblo. His mother had an affair with a
white man and left Tayo to be raised by his aunt when he was four. When we first meet Tayo he has
recently returned to the reservation after World War II and is

Categorize Short Story By Eileen Chang Summary
Once Upon a Time: Folktale Elements in Eileen Chang s Short Stories
Eileen Chang was a Chinese novelist who was known for her stories depicting 20th century Chinese
life, a time and place in which different cultures collided. Instead of depicting a perspective aligned
with either modern or traditional outlooks, Chang s work manages to reject blanket opinions of
whether one is better than the other and illustrates a world far more nuanced and that reflects the
mixing of worlds and ideas happening in the modern era. One of the most prominent ways she does so
is through the use of folk story themes: Chang uses folk elements to destroy and to satirize
dichotomies that the reader may rely on to categorize her stories, in effect depicting a more nuanced
China in which opposites work together.
In Aloeswood Incense, Chang uses folk tale elements to highlight the falseness of the world that ...

Like Aloeswood Incense, the story is introduced by the narrator inviting the reader to listen to his or
her tale, as if the story is being told orally. This theme is reinforced later when the narrator switches
from present to past tense, and cannot decide the age of the story s protagonist. In addition, the
narrator observes that Chuanqing [seems] to have dozed off (79). This subjectivity of the narrator
distances the reader from the story, but at the same time Chang s focus on Chuanqing s inner thoughts
pulls the reader into his mind. The effect of these contrasting themes is that the reader is able to
criticize Chuanqing s choices but also to empathize with him, reflecting a balance between the
traditional judging of anyone who challenges the social order, as seen in Lu Xun s Diary of a
Madman, and the more modern exploration of the self as a reflection of the surrounding

Extracting Natural Gas From Shale And Other Rock Formation
Resulting of recent technological innovations improving the ability of extracting natural gas from
shale and other rock formation. The popularity of hydraulic fracturing remains leading in the direction
of new venture opportunities and increasing growth for the natural gas and oil production industry.
With the development, comes risk and scrutiny. According to Robert W. Howarth and Anthony
Ingraffea natural gas extracted from shale comes at too great a cost to the environment, and must be
illegal. Natural gas from shale remains vastly proposed as clean, comparable with oil and coal that can
decrease the outpouring while still satisfying rich fossil fuel over coming decades until a switch to
renewable energy sources exists. However shale gas being clean remains false, and it used as bridge
fuel stays a terrible idea. Shale rock formation can hold large quantities of natural gas, however that
gas remains mostly made up of methane. (Natural Gas:Should fracking stop?) For a long period of
time a majority of this gas was not economically reachable. However over the past decade, two new
technological advancements recently combined allowing extracting of the gas. This process is known
as hydraulic fracturing, in which extremely high pressured water with additional chemicals forced two
to three kilometers in the ground is extracting the gas. The manufacturing sources claim that fracking
has produced over one million natural gas wells since the 1940 s. Only 2% of these wells

Essay on Defining Military Discipline and Values
Military Discipline is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. Self discipline in the
military is where soldiers do the 4 rights without being told, even in the absence of the commander.
Discipline is created within a unit by instilling a sense of confidence and responsibility in each
individual. To strengthen discipline, senior leaders need to give praise to their subordinates, either
individually or as a whole, for tasks done well. By doing this, it will accomplish every commanders
goal of having a unit that functions well and builds a bond which binds together the team. Everything
in life requires some sort of discipline. Whether it is hitting a baseball, learning to sew , playing a

An example is when a soldier is talking bad about an NCO and another soldier sticks up for the NCO
not only because they can get into trouble for talking like that, but because it is the right thing to do. It
helps build a unit and unites them and builds trust. Missing PT on Wednesday was a prime example of
disloyalty. If I was punctual and made sure the alarm was set the night before, I wouldn t have let the
team down. It showed the unit that I couldn t be trusted with the smallest of tasks, such as being on
time. Had I been more disciplines, I would have been more aware of the fact that the alarm was not
set. Duty is the easiest to define. It is doing what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do
it. Simply, it is your job. As air traffic controllers, our first duty priority is to separate aircraft and issue
safety alerts as required. If we neglected this priority, then we would lose tons of valuable lives. It was
my duty to show up to PT on time. By deselecting this duty I let down my unit. Self discipline is the
vital key to duty. If you don t have self discipline you won t know what right is, or you will know
what it is but you won t have the discipline to do it. The 4 rights take a lot of discipline. It is our duty
to accomplish the 4 rights: right time, right place, right uniform/ equipment, and right attitude. By
missing PT, I failed to accomplish all 4 or the rights as I

Rock N Roll In The 1950 s
The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail. The
band was jumpin and the joint began to swing. You should ve heard them knocked out jailbirds sing.
These lyrics from Elvis Presley s hit song Jailhouse Rock clearly illustrate how teenagers reacted to
his new brand of music, Rock n Roll in the 1950s. Elvis and his music came in a time when the baby
boomers were teenagers and beginning to identify themselves and discover music. The civil rights
movement was just about to begin, and the tension between whites and blacks was just beginning to
decrease. The two races found companionship when listening to music, and Elvis helped to connect

money to spend and a desire to spend it. When Elvis started singing, suddenly they knew what they
wanted to spend their money on. They wanted everything that Elvis had and they wanted to do
everything that he did. He inspired a whole generation to be different. He showed them they could
dance and they could be feminine and manly at the same time. Elvis showed the kids that they could
have fun and they could have fun together regardless of race. Elvis inspired a graduation and he
consequently became known as the King. He was the King of Rock n Roll and the King of the baby
boomers generation. Not only did Elvis encourage blacks and whites to get along together and have
fun, inspire the fashion and musical tastes of a generation, and demonstrate that not all men must be
manly, but he also started America on the path of children and their parents listening to different

Thomas Cole and The Hudson School of Romantic Landscape
The first American group of painters, The Hudson School of Romantic Landscapes, was lead by
Thomas Cole, who was born in 1801 in England. He went to Philadelphia and Ohio as a traveling
portrait painter in 1819. In addition, he traveled to Europe where he painted many Italian subjects, and
later many of the scenes in his paintings came from his European studies. He died in 1848 at the age
of 47. Cole s artwork represents the Romantic style of painting, especially in his famous work The
Oxbow (Fulwider 618). In the life and time around Thomas Cole, three things stand out. The major
themes in Cole s artwork, what was romantic about the Hudson River School s art, and why landscape
was a national religious symbol for Americans. A self taught artist, who lived on a bluff overlooking
the Hudson River, he was an outdoor enthusiast. He would hike throughout the area in summer, fall,
and spring, sketching the gorgeous scenes. In the winter, when his memory of specific settings faded,
he would paint the crucial mood of a place with oil paints. Reflecting his working method, his finished
work was a mixture of ideal and real. He blurred the distant vistas and painted the foreground in
painstaking detail, which suggested the infinite American landscape. His work illustrated the proud
belief that America was a fresh beginning for humanity; a primeval paradise (Strickland and Boswell
81). In addition, Cole inspired a group of painters that eventually became known as the Hudson River

  • 2. Thomas Hobbes Social Contract Theory Social Contract Theory is the view that a persons moral and/or political obligations are dependent upon a contract or agreement among them to form the society in which they live. It is rightly associated with modern moral and political theory and is given its first full exposition and defense by Thomas Hobbes (Friend). Thomas Hobbes, an English philosopher (1588 1679), lived through a very vital period of the English Civil War, which lasted from 1642 1648. During this time, the King and the Monarchists wanted the traditional authority of a monarchy, while the Parliamentarians did not. Hobbes had an important role in this, because he symbolized a settlement between the two groups. Not only did he reject the theory of the Divine Right of Kings, he also rejected the Parliamentarians democratic view that power should be shared between the King and Parliament. He possesses both radical and conservative characteristics because he rejects both views. One could divide Hobbes political theory into two parts: the first being his theory of human motivation followed by his theory of the social contract, which is based off the theoretical State of Nature. Hobbes theory of human motivation, better known as Psychological Egoism, is the thesis that we are always deep down motivated by what we perceive to be in our own self interest (Friend). The second part of his theory is based on the social contract, which was established on the theoretical State of Nature. Hobbes published the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Australian Federation Between the first fleet landing in Australia until the year 1900, Australia had six different governments enforcing different taxes, with their own militia trying to stay self sufficient and was not recognized as a nation. Australia relied immensely on British support and the governments of Australia realised that If there was any threat of war Australia would not be adept enough to protect itself. In 1901 the six current British ruled colonies in Australia came together to create the Commonwealth of Australia, these six colonies became the original six states of Australia. New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. I recently took a trip to Parliament house in Canberra, ACT where I learnt about the process and power of the Federation from our local M.P. Jamie Briggs. The federation of Australia was designed to allow the public to have a voice in the matters brought to parliament. In my opinion the federation of Australia went on to develop and become one of the world s fairest and most accepting governments. According the Australian Constitution (the most important document in Australian federation history) the states are allowed to self govern things that happen within their boundaries, (e.g. police, hospitals, education and public transport ). Therefore the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Australia the current voting age is 18 however, at the age of 16 you have the right to enrol to vote. Recruitment Proposal For Senior Level Talent MEMORANDUM TO: CEO, HSS FROM: Alyise Johnson, HR Director DATE: April 29, 2015 SUBJECT: Recruitment and Staffing Proposal for Senior Level Talent As requested during our last meeting, you shared with me your personal desire and HSS s need to establish a new recruitment and selection process for employing senior level staff. Below I have provided a few of the top options that the organization can easily put in place for the use of recruiting and selection new senior level staff. Recruitment Methods Recruiting suitable candidates that are able to adequately handle and manage senior level positions of the organization takes a great deal of time and patience. Placing inexperienced individuals into advanced positions within HHS could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Doyle) 2. Recruiters. For organizations that do not have the time or the resources to find suitable candidates, they hire headhunters and recruiting companies to do the searching for them. These headhunters and recruiters hunt down the best individuals in their particular fields, having thoroughly researched their complete background, including their experience and accomplishments, and basically sell these individuals to the appropriate organization. (Sutton, 2009) These companies also certify the candidates they recommend, providing a money back guarantee if an organization is not completely satisfied after a specific period of time. 3. Gamification. Gamification is the use of gaming principles and design in non gaming situations and identifies potential employees by posing virtual challenges that require the skills necessary for a given job. Gamification is effective because it can test a skill set, associate the company with something people enjoy and produce a virtual feel for the culture of a particular workplace. Selection Methods Selecting suitable candidates for senior level positions of the organization is also an essential undertaking. There are several considerations an organization must take into an account about a candidate before hiring them. 1. Credentials Assessment. It is very important to know what experience and skillset a candidate brings with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Natural Environment How does the natural environment influence culture? There is a myriad of varying definitions for the word culture. Instead of defining culture in general terms, it is often defined by how it is related to the environment; and consequently, how it is affected. Culture provides direction, and reason. Throughout history, people have remained stalwart and true to their roots and traditions. However, it has become evident that, with the changing environment, many traditional practices have had to adapt. Climate change is a key component causing this adaptation. Through reflecting upon environmental relativism, and cultural aspects, such as subsistence patterns, economic systems, and religion and world view, it can be concluded that the natural environment influences culture by causing environment based traditions to mould to external factors. Environmental relativism can be defined as follows: the ways in which certain aspects of the physical environment are relevant to cultures and traditions. It is how the environment relates to a culture (personal communication, Kathy Rettie, September 7, 2017). The environment is an ever changing system; it often cannot be predicted. Climate change, such as warmer winters, rising sea levels, and changes in precipitation, provide evidence that the individuals affected by the physical environment must change their way of life to adapt. This is particularly true for many nomadic cultures, who base their survival off the changing weather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Employee Rights Act Many consider ads to be most influential type of rhetoric. City dwellers in the United States view nearly 5000 ads per day and these highly impact the processes of purchase, decision making, and even voting (Johnson). A well constructed ad has the ability to change laws. An example of an attempt to amend established legislature is The Employee Rights Act ( The Bill ). Through the uses of proper circulation in response to exigency, the built credentials, and form of the ad, viewers may be persuaded to vote in favor of the bill. Through correct circulation, the ad will be able to accomplish the majority vote for the proposed bill. The Employee Right Act was sponsored by Tennessee Republican Representative David Roe, from the Education and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ad, when placed in a general support area, even with the fallacy, will create a broader support network. This ad appeals to readers and by being placed in a weekly published magazine, it will impact voter turnout. This ad, out of several researched, has built the most credentials. The right half of the ad has listed co sponsors of the bill, of whom include 75% of Idaho congressmen: Senator James Risch (an original sponsor of the bill), Senator Mike Crapo, and Representative Raul Labrador, and 2016 Conservative Presidential Candidates: Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Marco Rubio. Out of the 149 sponsors, all are of the Republican party ( S.1774 Employee Rights Act ). Humans tend to be obedient to fault, especially in representative democracy, where citizens elect and trust the politically elite. Often Americans vote based solely on partisan politics. Party labels grant the expected way for the representatives to act ( Political Parties ). These ways are implied and people tend to vote primarily for the label and in magazines, which are quick reads and not research databases, these biases are important. With these credentials, the act may be passed within the near future. This ad has a unique look compared to the majority of magazine prints. • 7. Ineffective Human Resources Leads At The Performance Gap... Ineffective Human Resources leads to the performance gap. There is no doubt that there are an insufficient number of lab technicians which might have caused deficiencies in human resources. However, the organization has eminently framed the lab hours of the diagnostic department in a structured way, so that a technician is available for every scheduled appointment at each lab. Dr. Lalitha agreed on early check up for Mrs. Kumari. She has eminently utilized the available time generated due to the absence of another patient. She was successful in synchronizing the demand and capacity. The lack of new curtains and air fresheners questions the efficiency of the inventory control. The organization must assign a person to check inventory on a regular basis to avoid any shortage. Every individual in the hospital have his or her equal contribution towards overall service quality, including the customer himself/herself. Patients are expected to have a minimum knowledge of their roles and responsibilities to get real and persistent services. Karuna did not read the website thoroughly, before blaming the hospital personals, for not providing transport services. She and her father did not use the option to call to the hospital for assistance in filling the forms. The patient from the next bed started screaming, without even thinking how it wound impact the other patients. Proper education and training is the only way to reduce this type of service gap. • 8. High Risk Drivers Teens are the number one cause of accidents in the United States, and the number of teen accidents is still rising. Most of the teen accidents that have occurred have included them having several passengers in the car with them. Teen drivers become more distracted when they have teenage peers in the car with them, and this causes them to engage in more potentially risky behaviors. Many researchers are debating if teens should even be allowed to drive with more than one passenger in the car with them. Teens under the age of 19 are more likely to die in accidents than adults. A number of studies have shown that passengers substantially increase the risk of crashes for young, novice drivers (Goodwin). The increased risk results from distractions that young passengers create for drivers. The presence of passengers may increase the likelihood of teenage drivers engaging in explicitly risky behaviors. Four potentially risky driving behaviors were examined in the driving clips speeding faster than other potentially moving vehicles, speeding too fast for the situation, following too closely, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been said that, the risk of a teen being killed in an accident decreases when they have an adult sibling in the vehicle with them (Mohn). Researchers have said it is unclear if this affects the safety of young drivers. Although siblings could just as well distract teen drivers like their peers would. When teens transported younger siblings, loud conversations and horseplay were more prevalent than when teens were carrying parents or adults (Goodwin). Despite the fact that adults are known as being the better drivers, whose there to say that they are. Just because they are adults does not mean they aren t reckless drivers themselves. Possible Cause Of Schizophrenia Essay Possible Cause for Schizophrenia Schizophrenia, defined by the National Institute of Mental Health is ...a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves... Sufferers of this mental illness have many symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, difficulty finding happiness, reduced speaking, trouble focusing, and many other symptoms which greatly impact their quality of life. Around two million Americans are diagnosed with this illness, although not much is known about it. Scientists have still not been able to pin point what causes schizophrenia. Due to this there is no cure, only treatments to try and dull the symptoms. Steven McCarroll and Beth Stevens have conducted a study which will hopefully give researchers something to help further their studies, to finally find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The part of the brain that is mostly impacted is the prefrontal cortex, which helps with thinking and planning. The team focused on a location in the human genome called the MHC. They found that the MHC has four variants of C4, which produced two different proteins, C4 A and C4 B. After analyzing 64,000 people they concluded that schizophrenics were more likely to have overactive forms of C4 A than non schizophrenic people. This finding made them believe the C4 A was the gene which may cause schizophrenia. This idea was then tested by Dr. Stevens, an assistant professor of neurology. Mice were used in the experiment to see if the nonexistence of the gene which produces C4 would impact the synaptic pruning. The experiment showed that the mice bred without the C4 producing gene showed a problematic synaptic pruning process. This further supported McCarroll and Steven s theory that too much C4 A causes an excessive amount of pruning during development of the brain. This all explains why schizophrenics have a thinner prefrontal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Effects Of Climate Change On The State Of Colorado It is undeniable that climate change is drastically changing our current landscapes throughout the world. There are many individuals who consider climate change to be a natural and organic progression, but many studies indicate that due to excess greenhouse gas emissions, humans are accelerating global warming at an alarming rate. It s convenient to continuously dismiss the studies and evidence that suggest climate change is real and it could have serious consequences, but when these drastic changes are taking place in our own backyard, it becomes a harsh reality. There is longstanding research, which indicates that the Colorado River has been in a drought since the early 2000 s and researchers allege that due to rising temperatures, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Dr. Denning, as the global climate changes, average temperatures will rise sharply. Because Colorado is so far inland, this effect will be stronger because large bodies of water help mitigate temperature swings and Colorado is far from our oceans or Great Lakes. Imagine the climate of Albuquerque as far north as Greeley. Additionally, we must consider the agriculture industry is estimated to be worth around forty one billion dollars in Colorado, which means climate change will have a drastic impact on food production. Colorado s geographic location is problematic in itself, but the continuous temperature changes means longer growing seasons. Ultimately, the rising temperatures make plants consume more water and it reduces the annual snowpack, which creates a conundrum of issues. Similarly, we can assume a warmer Colorado will also mean a much drier Colorado, which will hurt agriculture on every level. A report submitted to the Colorado Energy Office, titled The Colorado Climate Change Vulnerability Study presents key vulnerabilities the state is faced with due to climate change. The report highlights many areas, but it offers insight into negative effects from climate variability and how to adapt to them. Gattegno And The Silent Way Caleb Gattegno (1911 1988), one of the most prominent and productive educators of the twentieth century, is best known for his innovative approaches to teaching and learning foreign languages (The Silent Way). In 1972, Caleb Gattegno introduced The Silent Way, that is, a language teaching method whose basic concept is that the teacher should remain silent much of the time, thus its name while the students speak as much as possible. In the same way, Gattegno was under the impression that the teacher should focus on the way students learn more often rather than how to teach. In fact, he expressed support for language learning by problem solving, creative, discovering activity and all that, which is directly opposed to drills such as seen in audiolingualism. He, on the other hand, contends that students could naturally earn a new language like a child, through perception, awareness, creativity, and other mental processes. Besides being critical of linguistic theory, he devoted his thinking to a pedagogical perspective called the subordination of teaching to learning in that learners demands are placed at the center of teaching, so teaching is subordinate or dependent to learning. Gattegno holds that understanding the spirit of a language that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 24. The Public s Trust Act Of Law Enforcement Literature Review of Trust I want to focus on the public s trust in the profession of law enforcement. Law enforcement administrators are always looking for ways to enhance their departments image to the communities they serve. This is a tough task because there are many factors that go into the public s perception of law enforcement. While a local agency may have a good relationship with its community an incident may happen across the country with the police misconduct and the local agencies reputation is damaged because of it. Police Officers have accepted a position that holds a great deal of authority and their actions are performed in the public eye. They are held by their communities to very high standards, with traits such as honesty, integrity, equity and professionalism being some of the most important. Every day thousands of police officers throughout the country do their job in a manner that is exemplary but it takes the actions of just one officer to tarnish all of these good works. Unfortunately these situations happen too often and seem to be increasing at an alarming rate. We define trust as a certain belief and a sense of assurance that is based on strong but not logically conclusive evidence, or based on some ones character, their ability, or truth that someone or something has shown over a period of time or over experiences (Cambridge, 2015). I am very excited about what we can create together and I want us to be able to get started right away. For this production, our guiding concept is going to be Death can be livelier than life. Firstly, I want to start with the set design. Now in the text, Garro states that the play is located in a room with stone walls, and no windows or doors. Now, this will be the base of the play, however to express the concept I want to liven the space up. I think that painting a window and curtains on the upstage wall would help create a more welcoming space. This would also allow for interesting blocking as we could have the characters looking out the window, daydreaming as the reminisce about their reincarnations. Next, I want a minimalistic amount of furniture, and I want these to be on the more neutral side, coming in colors of white, tan and light grey, as furniture has no life to it. The place should also look lived in, should feel like a home, with pillows on the furniture and books and knickknacks on any tables. Little Flower Character Analysis Employing household names, rather than less known actors, Jia reduces the possibility for audiences, especially the Chinese, of jumbling up the interviewing with acting. In other words, the intention of docuficiton is not to gloss over the conflicts between the natural and artificial, but to highlight the difference and to show the self conscious about mimicry in representation (Deppman 205). The quality of self reflexivity is most explicit in the case of Gu Minhua, played by veteran actor Joan Chen, who was given the nickname, Little Flower, because she resembles the heroine in the one time popular movie, Little Flower, which in reality was starred by Joan herself. Later comes the scene where Gu Minhua is watching Little Flower. The juxtaposition between the character/actress and her representative work further parodies the boundary between the fact and fiction, and the authority of one single voice in the process of conceptualising the time space. In the context of China, it confronts the hegemony of revolutionary realism since Mao era till today, referring to a powerful delusion to justify the Chinese past, and to generate political passions for the present and future (Donald 273). Roman power had decimated the Jewish Temple and many believed that the second coming was near, including Mark. Due to the common belief among Christians and Christian Jews that the second coming was near Mark tailored his death narrative to appeal to his community. Mark writes in verse 15:34 that before Jesus death he cried out with a loud voice My god, my God, why have you forsaken me? Mark uses this statement as Jesus last because he wants the Jewish Christians to better align with Jesus. Since the Jewish Temple no longer stood, Jews felt like they were no longer in the presence of God or that they were forsaken, which aligned them with Jesus. Doctor J. Bradley Chance a professor at William Jewell College stated that The temple has ceased to be what it is supposed to be; rather, it has become an instrument of exclusion of both the people of God and non Jews. Mark addresses this by writing verses 15:37 39 which stated that upon Jesus last breath the curtain of the temple was torn in two. By using this wording Mark is attempting to illustrate that God is no longer off limits to Non Jews, and that God is no longer confined to the Temple. In the course of history, particularly the history of North American Indigenous Peoples, we can see how events have influenced their way of life. Since the arrival of Europeans in North America, it is easy to notice how a singular event can cause shifts within indigenous cultures, communities and the landscape. Although shifts within and between cultures and communities can be good, the shifts Native Americans faced with the arrival of Europeans were usually not. For centuries Natives struggled to preserve their lands, culture, and people as they were slowly being assimilated into the new Euro American way of life and colonization. In this, we can not only see the works of Euro American hegemony but also the fight of Natives to defend and protect their cultural sovereignty. Instead of depicting a perspective aligned with either modern or traditional outlooks, Chang s work manages to reject blanket opinions of whether one is better than the other and illustrates a world far more nuanced and that reflects the mixing of worlds and ideas happening in the modern era. One of the most prominent ways she does so is through the use of folk story themes: Chang uses folk elements to destroy and to satirize dichotomies that the reader may rely on to categorize her stories, in effect depicting a more nuanced China in which opposites work together. The effect of these contrasting themes is that the reader is able to criticize Chuanqing s choices but also to empathize with him, reflecting a balance between the traditional judging of anyone who challenges the social order, as seen in Lu Xun s Diary of a Madman, and the more modern exploration of the self as a reflection of the surrounding ... • 33. Extracting Natural Gas From Shale And Other Rock Formation Resulting of recent technological innovations improving the ability of extracting natural gas from shale and other rock formation. The popularity of hydraulic fracturing remains leading in the direction of new venture opportunities and increasing growth for the natural gas and oil production industry. With the development, comes risk and scrutiny. According to Robert W. Howarth and Anthony Ingraffea natural gas extracted from shale comes at too great a cost to the environment, and must be illegal. Natural gas from shale remains vastly proposed as clean, comparable with oil and coal that can decrease the outpouring while still satisfying rich fossil fuel over coming decades until a switch to renewable energy sources exists. However shale gas being clean remains false, and it used as bridge fuel stays a terrible idea. Shale rock formation can hold large quantities of natural gas, however that gas remains mostly made up of methane. (Natural Gas:Should fracking stop?) For a long period of time a majority of this gas was not economically reachable. However over the past decade, two new technological advancements recently combined allowing extracting of the gas. This process is known as hydraulic fracturing, in which extremely high pressured water with additional chemicals forced two to three kilometers in the ground is extracting the gas. The manufacturing sources claim that fracking has produced over one million natural gas wells since the 1940 s. Only 2% of these wells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essay on Defining Military Discipline and Values Military Discipline is a state of order and obedience existing within a command. Self discipline in the military is where soldiers do the 4 rights without being told, even in the absence of the commander. Discipline is created within a unit by instilling a sense of confidence and responsibility in each individual. To strengthen discipline, senior leaders need to give praise to their subordinates, either individually or as a whole, for tasks done well. By doing this, it will accomplish every commanders goal of having a unit that functions well and builds a bond which binds together the team. Everything in life requires some sort of discipline. Whether it is hitting a baseball, learning to sew , playing a musical instrument, making good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example is when a soldier is talking bad about an NCO and another soldier sticks up for the NCO not only because they can get into trouble for talking like that, but because it is the right thing to do. It helps build a unit and unites them and builds trust. Missing PT on Wednesday was a prime example of disloyalty. If I was punctual and made sure the alarm was set the night before, I wouldn t have let the team down. It showed the unit that I couldn t be trusted with the smallest of tasks, such as being on time. Had I been more disciplines, I would have been more aware of the fact that the alarm was not set. Duty is the easiest to define. It is doing what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it. Simply, it is your job. As air traffic controllers, our first duty priority is to separate aircraft and issue safety alerts as required. If we neglected this priority, then we would lose tons of valuable lives. It was my duty to show up to PT on time. By deselecting this duty I let down my unit. Self discipline is the vital key to duty. If you don t have self discipline you won t know what right is, or you will know what it is but you won t have the discipline to do it. The 4 rights take a lot of discipline. It is our duty to accomplish the 4 rights: right time, right place, right uniform/ equipment, and right attitude. By missing PT, I failed to accomplish all 4 or the rights as I ... • 35. Classroom Field Report In my First grade field classroom, there was an aid to help with classroom management. The aid was assigned to this particular classroom because of behavior issues of specific students. Some of the students sat close to the teacher s desk, so she could keep a closer eye on these students. Even though there was an aid, there were students walking around the classroom, walking out to the hallway, and sitting at the teacher s desk. The teacher would tell the students to do what they are supposed to be doing. However, the students would continue their actions. Also, multiple students were getting anxious. This is because they were supposed to sit at their desk working on chromes books the whole time we were there with little interaction from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Rock N Roll In The 1950 s The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail. The band was jumpin and the joint began to swing. You should ve heard them knocked out jailbirds sing. These lyrics from Elvis Presley s hit song Jailhouse Rock clearly illustrate how teenagers reacted to his new brand of music, Rock n Roll in the 1950s. Elvis and his music came in a time when the baby boomers were teenagers and beginning to identify themselves and discover music. The civil rights movement was just about to begin, and the tension between whites and blacks was just beginning to decrease. The two races found companionship when listening to music, and Elvis helped to connect the dots even more. Elvis was a music icon that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was a poor man who became rich, a white boy who dressed and sang like he was black, and a mamma s boy who was also a rebel. Elvis scared white children s parents. They saw this child who could be their kid acting like a juvenile delinquent and they feared his music would ignite rebellion in their children. The teenage population was huge and the people were well enough off that the kids had money to spend and a desire to spend it. When Elvis started singing, suddenly they knew what they wanted to spend their money on. They wanted everything that Elvis had and they wanted to do everything that he did. He inspired a whole generation to be different. He showed them they could dance and they could be feminine and manly at the same time. Elvis showed the kids that they could have fun and they could have fun together regardless of race. Elvis inspired a graduation and he consequently became known as the King. He was the King of Rock n Roll and the King of the baby boomers generation. Not only did Elvis encourage blacks and whites to get along together and have fun, inspire the fashion and musical tastes of a generation, and demonstrate that not all men must be manly, but he also started America on the path of children and their parents listening to different music. The teens of the 1950s loved rock music and that started the trend of each generation having their own music that they felt spoke to them. The 60s folk music, the 70s ... • 37. Thomas Cole and The Hudson School of Romantic Landscape The first American group of painters, The Hudson School of Romantic Landscapes, was lead by Thomas Cole, who was born in 1801 in England. He went to Philadelphia and Ohio as a traveling portrait painter in 1819. In addition, he traveled to Europe where he painted many Italian subjects, and later many of the scenes in his paintings came from his European studies. He died in 1848 at the age of 47. Cole s artwork represents the Romantic style of painting, especially in his famous work The Oxbow (Fulwider 618). In the life and time around Thomas Cole, three things stand out. The major themes in Cole s artwork, what was romantic about the Hudson River School s art, and why landscape was a national religious symbol for Americans. A self taught artist, who lived on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River, he was an outdoor enthusiast. He would hike throughout the area in summer, fall, and spring, sketching the gorgeous scenes. In the winter, when his memory of specific settings faded, he would paint the crucial mood of a place with oil paints. Reflecting his working method, his finished work was a mixture of ideal and real. He blurred the distant vistas and painted the foreground in painstaking detail, which suggested the infinite American landscape. His work illustrated the proud belief that America was a fresh beginning for humanity; a primeval paradise (Strickland and Boswell 81). In addition, Cole inspired a group of painters that eventually became known as the Hudson River ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Comparison Of Silenters And Baby Boomers According to Mary Bennett, Silenters, Baby Boomers, Generations X, Millennials and Nexters are the five generations that make up the workforce. The descriptions of each generation and the motivational factors that drive each to perform vary. Although Rose Dunn refers to individuals born before 1964 as Veterans or Silenters , Bennett identifies individuals born during the years 1900 to 1946, as the Silent Generation. Bennett describes members of this generation as individuals who value duty, loyalty, independence, are committed to compliance and prefer teamwork. Bennett describes boomers as individuals whose self worth is defined by their professional success, are devoted to their careers, adapt to change, prefer to communicate in person, and ... However, the approach to managing all five generations requires managers to assign tasks based on the actual work behaviors and performance shown by each person, regardless of age and in a manner that uses each person s strengths. Managers should pair older or younger employees that have limited knowledge about technologically demanding tasks with younger employees (Gen X and Y) who are able to offer assistance or helpful information (to simplify the task). Individuals who favor teamwork (Boomers, Silenters and Nexters) and are interested in advanced technical processes, should collaborate with Nexters. The partnership will potentially provide mentorship for Nexters to improve their interpersonal communication skills and creates learning opportunities for Boomers and Silenters to improve their work performance, skills and show leadership abilities. Every leader with multigenerational employees in the work place, should emphasize the importance of team work, praise each member for their contributions and achievements, and empower employees to achieve their ...
