Relationship Between Self Esteem and Achievement
ABSTRACT
The present study explored the relationship between individual self esteem and achievement. The
sample of the study consisted of 85 respondents working in the private sector of Pakistan. A total of 21
companies were visited for this purpose. It was hypothesized that individuals having self esteem will
also have high achievement. Two scales were used to measure self esteem and achievement. Self
esteem scale comprised of 13 items and the achievement scale also comprised of 13 items measured
on 6 components of achievement. Both questionnaires were given to each subject and analyzed
afterwards. The results indicated that those subjects scoring high on self esteem scale also scored high
on achievement scale. The results are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rosenberg (1979) viewed the self as made up of 2 elements, identity which represents cognitive
variables and self esteem which represents the affective variables.
Self esteem is operationally defined as:
Individual s feelings about his or her worth as a person, derived from the evaluation of various salient
dimensions of the self, namely psychological, social and physical or any other (Rifai, 1999).
Types of Self esteem
Korman (1986) suggests three types of self esteem. They are:
Chronic Self esteem
This type is defined as a relatively persistent personality trait or dispositional state that occurs
consistently across various situations. This self esteem is a result of past experiences and focuses on
one s competencies. An individual s confidence in his/her competencies directs the individual into
situations which require the use of those competencies.
Task Specific Self esteem
Task specific self esteem is one s self perception of his/her competence concerning a particular task or
job. This type of self esteem is the result of feedback, which comes directly from the observation of he
results of one s efforts.
Socially Influenced Self esteem
This type of self esteem is a function of the expectations of others. It results from communication or
feedback from reference group members or society as a whole, concerning the value of identity and
the individual s ability to meet the expectations of the reference groups and/or the society as a whole.

Information Security And The Security
Information Security has been a growing role in businesses and will continue to grow because of the
ever changing ways of technology. Microsoft has been a leader in the information security industry
since it was founded in 1975. Bill Gates and Paul Allen are the founders of this business and have
made it a global billion dollar company. With the company venturing in all devices such computers,
cell phones, and even cars the sky is the limit for this company to continue to thrive in the technology
business. Since 1975 the industry has expanded rapidly and security within the technology business
has tightened and has tried to stay ahead of the criminals and hackers as they are always looking to

Pressure Ulcer Prevention Essay
Pressure Ulcer Prevention in the Acute Care Setting Pressure ulcers are localized wounds to the skin
that are also known as decubitus ulcers, or are known by the colloquial term bed sores. They are
common occurrences in healthcare that result from injuries to the skin and the tissues beneath it when
the patient remains in one position for long periods of time. Pressure ulcers are typically located over
an area with a bony prominence that then causes pressure on the skin. Pressure ulcers are especially
common in individuals in extended care facilities, but can occur even in an acute setting. Pressure
ulcers, in fact, can develop in just 24 hours, although they may not be apparent to healthcare providers
until up to 7 days later (Truong, Grigson, Patel, Liu, 2016). For immobile or relatively immobile
patients, pressure ulcers are one of the most serious problems that can occur, because they can result
in infections or other complications, and decrease the quality of life. As an example, a prospective
cohort study conducted in Brazil found that pressure ulcers could harbor multi drug resistant bacteria
that conferred a mortality rate of 100 percent (Braga, Brito, Filho, Filho, Ribas, 2016) and that were
able to spread to other patients in the form of infected pressure ulcers or other hospital acquired
infections. The subject ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

historical era of Folk, Country, Rock and Rock, and Blues protest genres.
Overall, practice was required to ensure the presentation of each musical piece showcased music
competencies from advanced to virtuoso. According to PMs, developing their music competencies has
been a lifelong journey they enjoyed and will continue to enjoy.
Emotional memories linked to repertoire. Beginning with the maestros of Western Classical music,
composers have intentionally written in modulating key scales, inversions, and tempos to evoke
imagery and emotions to motivate listeners (Bonds, 2006). Therefore, PMs were asked which
repertory affected them the most over their lifetime. Participants reported Western Classical repertoire
and 20th century genres not only evoked emotions and imagery, but also the event at the time of

The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis
The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named
Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from
the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell
him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important
symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper
meaning of the story.
The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings.
When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the
pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He
...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got
married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a
firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier
and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason
the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led
to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing
his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came
home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier,
and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the
water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s
father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to
serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new
beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier:
greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie

The structures that organisations adopt are usually aligned to one of five generic organisational
structures. These are the simple structure, the functional structure, the divisional structure, the holding
company structure and the matrix structure. (Capon, C. (2009) the business environment. Chapter 4:

The matrix structure integrates two structures together, often geographical and multi product
structures. For example, a company may have a department for a product A in Europe and for Product
A in Asia. One of the advantages of the Matrix structure is the convenience of experts simplifying the
sharing of knowledge between the goods. Another advantage of the matrix structure is intra team
communication, this allows ease of communication between the different functional product groups
within the same organisation, and similarly there is less pressure on managers, quality monitoring is
easier and skills are interchanged within departments of the same function thus improving efficiency.
In the early 90 s the majority of IBM and the business press were convinced decentralisation would
aid the company in terms of flexibility, speed and entrepreneurial motivation . They believed splitting
up IBM into smaller companies would speed up processes and promote and enhance efficiency, which
can be true of decentralisation. Lou Gerstner was appointed CEO of IBM in 1993. He was convinced
IBM should remain centralised and to use its unique size and capabilities to help customers integrate
the diverse components of their information technology (IT) systems . In the end IBM was loosened
up but not completely decentralised. This worked tremendously

Shooting An Elephant
The short story Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is about Orwell s experience with peer
pressure as a sub divisional police officer in Moulmein, Lower Burma. This experience occurred
during the 1930s when the Burmese had a very strong anti European feeling because they did not want
people who are not natives controlling their own country`s domestic and international affairs. It
commenced when the sub inspector at a police station asked him to control an elephant who wrecked
the bazaar, livestock, a house and ate fruit in the city. Its mahout, the only person who can control it
when it was in that state, was a twelve hours` journey away from the elephant because he went in the

Most of the differences deal with the traits and situations the protagonists faced. One difference
between the peer pressure each of the main characters faced was that Esperanza faced peer pressure
dealing with beauty and sexuality. Another difference between the peer pressure is that Orwell`s
experience involves a death of a creature while Esperanza`s experiences do not mention death
anywhere. The final difference is that in Shooting an Elephant, there was a greater possibility for
Orwell to go to trial but Esperanza can`t since she doesn t know who raped her.
First of all, Esperanza`s experiences dealt with her beauty, physical traits, and sexuality. She wanted to
be cute, have large hips and have a relationship with a boy. Esperanza was also raped and tricking into
kissing and eventually changed her views on boys and men. However, George Orwell`s experiences
dealt with defending himself and the natives. It also dealt with colonialism and imperialism. In
addition, Esperanza is inferred to be in her adolescence and close to adulthood while Orwell is about

Lastly, nanotechnology can help doctors to identify cancer cells in a patient and also they have the
opportunity to give early medications to the patients that are diagnosed with cancer cells in their body.
Currently, doctors can use nanotechnology to detect the miniscule cancer tumors present in
millimeters of saliva and blood. As illustrated in the research done by the Stanford University, We can
now detect just a few cancer associated molecules or circulating tumor cells in the body in just a few
milliliters of blood or saliva, or map the boundaries of a brain tumor within millimeters to assess its
response to therapy or to plan a surgery, Gambhir said. We ve specially designed nanoparticles that
can send back a massively amplified, whopping signal when they bind to cancer cells in the colon, and
we re working on ways to trigger the self assembly of nanoparticles when they enter a cancer cell. The
field has advanced tremendously in the past 10 to 15 years (Gambhir). Therefore, if doctors can detect

The Problem Of Real Estate
Those who have never bought, sold or otherwise transferred title to a property in Australia will need to
learn a thing or two about the subject of conveyancing. Generally speaking, this is the legal transfer of
title to property from one person to another. There are some kits on the market that enable buyers to
complete the process involved in transferring ownership of property, but this is not generally
recommended as differences in state laws, and the complexity of the process itself, can cause potential
problems. Real Estate is typically the most valuable asset that any of us will ever own, and its legal
title transfer must be handled carefully to ensure the protection of all parties and full compliance with
the law. It is, therefore, important to know what conveyancing is and what is involved in the process,
as well as what a conveyancer does in this process and how both buyers and sellers can benefit from
their services. When seeking any professional for their services, it is critical to find someone who is
qualified. This is especially important for a transaction as major as those involving real estate. You ll
want to have a good idea of how much it costs to employ their services and whether one should use a
conveyancer or a solicitor when engaging in various property transfers. This subject may seem new
and daunting to someone who has not gone through it, but the right professional can navigate you
through it to a settlement that is amicable for both parties.

Felix Mendelssohn Major Accomplishments
Mendelssohn was a famous German composer of the Romantic period. Although he was born into a
Jewish family and grew up without a religion he soon became a reformed Christian. Mendelssohn was
born with the talent to be able to play instruments and make music, but his parents never really
supported his talent and didn t help him to improve his talent. He went on to pursue what he loved to
do and that was to compose and conduct music.
Mendelssohn was born in Hamburg, Germany, 1809. He was the grandson of the philosopher Moses
Mendelssohn, and the son of a banker (Abraham Mendelssohn) and his mother who was a part of the
Itzig family (Lea Salomon). He was the second of four children in his family and his sister was also

instruments he was in the spotlight. He did however perform his own work and those of Bach and

Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann had a very close working relationship as composers as well
as piano and organ performances of the composers 3(Chernaik).
Mendelssohn was one of the greatest conductors of all time. Why you may ask? Well he was the one
who started the use of the baton for tempo and to have control over the orchestra. This helped with his
success as a conductor and was a big innovation for future conductors after him. He was at times
judged for using the baton because the tempo on some works were too fast, but that didn t matter to
him because it was what helped him be a good conductor.
Mendelssohn is remembered as a talented composer, conductor, musician, etc. However after his death
there were many to criticize his background because he was Jewish and successful. But there are also
many who believe that he was great and a genius at what he did. This respect wasn t really shown
towards him until another 50 years or

were among the most strongest, successful and powerful with the gunpowder. Gunpowder was very
famous and is still famous till this day. It has also helped to develop new machines and technology.
Gunpowder was a great invention because the way it helped to develop new ways of combat helped

Gunpowder has been successful throughout many ages still to this day gunpowder is still successful.
Gunpowder was created for many uses, but it also had its purposes. The impact that gunpowder had
was big because it helped empires grow mad with power, every gunpowder empire will try to
overthrow another empire just to regain more gunpowder and become even more powerful.
Gunpowder also spread like wildflowers it reached Europe, India, Britain and Ireland, Indonesia, and
the middle east. Gunpowder was first named black powder but then they changed it to gunpowder.

Molecular Visualization With High Throughput Screening (...
The in silico discovery of drugs saves millions of lives each year. As such, there is extensive research
into drug discovery. Molecular visualization is one of the most important parts of structural biology
and the drug discovery process. Molecular visualization with high throughput screening (HTS) has
been successful in the discovery of new drugs. Though HTS has been effective it is expensive and
covers a limited space. For these reasons, the high level visualization of molecules provides help to

molecular network [12]. The effectiveness of each application is found by comparing several features
offered. Features compared include cost, availability, extensibility, difficulty, command line access,
scripting, selection and documentation [14], [15]. By comparing these categories, I decide the most
effective tool to use in structure based drug discovery. In a classic approach to drug, discovery testing
would begin in vivo. This would need the analysis of millions of molecules. The molecular

Therefore, in order to adopt the decision usefulness approach, three major questions must be
addressed:
1. Who are the users of financial statements?
It is helpful to categorize users into broad groups, such as investors, creditors, managers, unions,
standard setters, and governments, etc. These groups are called constituencies of accounting.
* Investors * Holders of equity securities, such as common stocks, preferred shares * Holders of
partnership interest * Other equity holders or owners
* Creditors * Purchaser of debt instrument * Lend economic resources
* Manager * Inside financial statements provider and user * Has a different incentive of using
financial statements than outsiders
* Other users (provide resources) * Employees provide human capital in exchange for salary,
remuneration and pension. * Suppliers extend credit to facilitate sales. * Customers prepay for goods
and services. * Union, standard setters and governments provide policies and regulations.
In order to take a close look into various financial statement users behaviour, two theories or concepts
should be outlined here:
* Single person decision theory
Single person decision theory takes the viewpoint of an individual who much make a decision under
conditions of uncertainty. * It suggests how a rational individual makes optimal decisions in the

Anti Semitism In The 1930s
In the 1930s and 1940s Anti Semitism was wide spread in Germany under the Nazi Government. The
treatment of Jews in Germany during this time was extremely brutal and harrowing. The human rights
abuses against Jewish people in Nazi Germany during the world war two periods are extremely well
documented. Anti Semitism ranged from the outlawing of marriage between Jews and gentiles, the
Nazi regime sanctioned destruction of Jewish homes and synagogue and of course the holocaust. The
holocaust is one of the darkest moments in modern history where approximately six million Jews were
killed in extermination camps in Poland which was occupied by Nazi Germany at the time. Anti
Semitism was deeply engrained in the policies, ideology and dogma of the Nazi party in Germany
during world war two. Anti Semitism was no new phenomena in Germany during the 1930s and
1940s. Anti Semitism in both a religious and racial sense has existed and developed for over 2000

Spalding Research Paper
The History of The Founding of Spalding (Extra): The history of Spalding is one that few know, yet is
incredibly interesting. The island nation of over 11 million, is relatively unknown, yet has played a
major role in global history, global conflicts, and has a deeply interesting founding story. Founded as a
country in 1543, there is a long path from its founding to where it is today. The discovery of Spalding
occurred in 1439, 100 years before confederacy. The island was discovered by an expedition set out by
the Walthford Family; an affluent family, who sailed the world looking for uninhabited, profitable
lands. When the expedition returned to France, they reported that the island had large Quartz deposits
in the Northern, mountainous side of the island. Quartz, being a highly profitable mineral, drew the
Walthford Family to send a large crew of workers there to mine it. Ferrand Walthford, the eldest son,
went with the crew, to oversee the mining. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Waste Product Is A Wide World Concern Which Needs To Be
Waste product is a wide world concern which needs to be solved so as to aid resources and energy
problems. Recycling is the process of turning waste products into a new substance. Plastics comprises
of limited resources like petroleum products. Many countries are coming up with advancement in
technology to use in plastic recycling. The easy technique that industries are using is that they are
using the plastic materials as their raw material in production. Similarly, the government has created
awareness on essential of thermal recycling in that plastics are used as source of energy so that there is
petroleum conservation. This paper talks about recycling of plastics, types of plastics that are recycled,

Foam Packaging
Foam packaging is made up of almost 95 % of air. The foam packaging protects TV when they are
being transported from one place to another (Brydson 1995). However, these foam packages are not
thrown away after use, instead they are recycled into insulation together with the picture frame.
Polymers in the recycled plastics
Plastic Bottles
Plastic bottles contains a polyester known as Polythene terephthalate( Azapagic et al.2003).The
polythene terephthalate is used in making the plastic bottles since it has a strong ability to create a gas
barrier so that oxygen get into the drink and spoil it.
Plastic bags, shampoo bottles and milk jugs
Plastic bags as well as shampoo containers are made up of high density polyethylene (HDPE). The
HDPE is used in making the plastic bag and shampoo containers since it has long virtuality and
unbranched polymer chains which make it more dense as well as very crystalline hence stronger
(Nicholson 1997). The HDPE is stiff, strong, tough as well as resistant to moisture.
Plastic wraps
Plastic wraps comprises of low density polyethylene(LDPE). The LDPE polymers have a crucial
chain branching comprising extended side restraints hence being less density as well as less
crystalline. As a result, the polymer is more thin as well as flexible.

Symbolism In Keats s Ode To A Nightingale
Torn between two worlds, Keats battled his own personal life between his engagement to Fanny
Browne and the death of his brother. Also the poem was written approximately two years before he
died. These life changing events resulted in Keats writing one of his most famous poems, Ode to a
Nightingale. This poem is an escape from reality in trying to find a happy place such as the singing of
the Nightingale (Fiero 9). The poem is a parallel to Keats thoughts and desires, which are directly
connected to his reasoning for writing the poem, its connections to understanding nature as well as its
reflection of the human consciousness and natural environment.
Ironically the bird in the poem is used as a symbol, whereas the bird that inspired the poem was a real
living creature. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the themes in Keats poem Ode to a Nightingale is reality verses imaginary (Melani). In the
beginning of the poem, the bird is tangible, allowing Keats to hear its pleasant song. As the poem
develops the bird becomes a symbol. The bird can represent joy, self expressions and nature s music.
One concern in the poem is Keats analysis on the divided nature of humans. This includes mixed
feelings of pain verses happiness, feeling verses dullness, real verses ideal and mortal verses immortal.
As the poem continues to build on emotion based on human nature, the reader is able to draw
conclusions and different abstractions (Melani). In this poem there is an overpowering theme directly
related to romanticism, the bird representing nature and immortality while on the flip side Keats
representing a worldly state of mind trying to capture the essence of the nightingale by listening to the
song. Art is more than a response to the human experience of love and nature; it is the transmuted
product of the imagination, a higher form of nature that triumphantly outreaches the mortal lifespan

Effective Supervision Requires Establishing Different...
Effective supervision requires establishing different levels of supervision in order to know which
offenders need closer supervision from those who require less supervision (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
Generally, the supervision of offenders is categorized into three or four levels: maximum, medium and
minimum or maximum, high, standard, and administrative (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The
administrative level is for probationers or parolees who have committed minor offenses, satisfied
financial responsibilities, and been in compliance for two years (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
Probationers and parolees on the administrative level do not require a personal visit or personal
contact with the officer (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). Individuals on the administrative level are
required to call in and leave a voicemail or mail in a residence verification and employment document
(Alarid Del Carmen, 2012).
A caseload is the number of individuals that one probation or parole officer is responsible for and can
supervise effectively (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The number of people that one officer can supervise
varies from state to state (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). The more intensive the supervision is the lower
the officer s caseload (Alarid Del Carmen, 2012). In Georgia, probation and parole caseloads are
classified under two risk levels of supervision standard and high (Department of Community
Supervision, n.d.). Individuals who have a sex crime conviction will be

One of the cornerstone models for understanding organizational change was developed by Kurt Lewin
back in the 1950s, and still holds true today. His model is known as Unfreeze Change Refreeze, refers
to the three stage process of change he describes. Lewin, a physicist as well as social scientist,
explained organizational change using the analogy of changing the shape of a block of ice.
Understanding Lewin s Model
If you have a large cube of ice, but realize that what you want is a cone of ice, what do you do? First
you must melt the ice to make it amenable to change (unfreeze). Then you must mold the iced water
into the shape you want (change). Finally, you must solidify the new shape (refreeze).
Unfreeze Change Refreeze
By looking at change as process with distinct stages, you can prepare yourself for what is coming and
make a plan to manage the transition looking before you leap, so to speak. All too often, people go
into change blindly, causing much unnecessary turmoil and chaos.
To begin any successful change process, you must first start by understanding why the change must
take place. As Lewin put it, Motivation for change must be generated before change can occur. One
must be helped to re examine many cherished assumptions about oneself and one s relations to others.
This is the unfreezing stage from which change

Barrett s Esophagus Case
I.Description
Barrett s Esophagus can be complication of gastroesophageal reflux disease. The acid causes the
normal simple stratified squamous epithelium to be destroyed and the body replaces the tissue with
columnar epithelium, the same tissue present in the stomach. The disease can occur causing symptoms
or can be asymptomatic. Not every patient with gastroesophageal reflux disease will develop Barrett s
Esophagus and not every patient who has Barrett s Esophagus had gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Screening is important to help identify patients that may be affected by the disease. Caucasian male

This repeated exposure to this acid over time can damage the esophagus and cause chronic
inflammation damaging healthy cells. In most patients the damaged cells are repaired and new healthy
squamous cells regenerate the area. In cases when a patient is diagnosed with Barrett s Esophagus the
body replaces the damaged areas with metaplastic columnar epithelium.7 The exact reason the body
replaces the squamous cells with columnar cells in the damaged portion of the esophagus is unknown
but research is pushing for to find the exact source of why the body responds in this manner. It is
believed this replacement happens because progenitor cells, which would normally would differentiate
into squamous cells, differentiate into columnar cells. Other researchers believe gastroesophageal
reflux might cause changes in the expression of transcription factors necessary for development which
causes transdifferentiation or causing immature progenitor to differentiate into columnar rather than
squamous cells.6 However, animal models indicate that the cause is a result of migration of stem cells
from the cardiac portion of the stomach or developing cells from the gastroesophageal junction. Other
animal models point to bone marrow progenitor cells contributing to the cell replacement.10 While
this change in cells may be

Perfil Racial
Es evidente que en nuestra sociedad el racismo aún prevalece. Lo vemos todo el tiempo en las

Why Are Dental Implants Important
Dental implants are a very useful tool to combat a wide range of dental issues, such as bone

They Can Improve Your Dental Health
One of the primary reasons to consider implants is that they can improve your dental health. This is
because these implants can actually reduce a lot of the wear that your teeth may begin experiencing
once you have lost several of your teeth. When you lose one or more teeth, you are most likely going
to be favoring other areas of your mouth whenever you chew, which means that the teeth in those
areas are going to be working substantially harder and more often in order to help you chew food.

Remembering In Alejo Carpentier s Imagine Community
Forgetting/remembering is an important factor when building a nation. Anderson speaks extensively
about this in Imagine Communities. In order for a new nation to thrive the old one must be forgotten
so they can start anew. However, forgetting and remembering tend to blend together. Alejo Carpentier

makes a conscious choice to leave in historic characters: Macandal, Henri Christophe etc. These
characters remind the reader of Haiti s history, whereas Ti Noel is a fictitious character. Carpentier

believes that he should live out his faith and that means through his company, not just on a Sunday

As it pertains to both his employee and service manager Whiting and his customers it seems he is

In Margaret Atwood s Siren Song
Poetry has been defined by many people in numerous ways. Robert Frost puts it perfectly stating A
poem begins in delight, it inclines to the impulse, it assumes a direction with the first line laid down, it
runs a course of lucky events, and ends in a clarification of life... In Margaret Atwood s Siren Song, it
does just that. The speaker portrays the scenery and the siren as danger.
The poem opens with the speaker explaining the siren song as the song that is irresistible and makes
men leap overboard. Sirens were half mythical bird, half woman. From the first line, the reader can
already assume the song is a deception, but we all desire to learn it. The sense to continue onto the
next line or stanza indicates that the classical myth is not average. The colons in lines 2 3 also specify
the sense of anticipation and suspense that will build up.
The speaker lulls you in with the second stanza, creating the possessed feeling the sailors were under.
The speaker goes on to tell of the song that no one knows, because those who jump are dead and some
just do not remember. This enchanting song forces sailors to jump overboard, even though they are
aware of the island filled with beached skulls . The speaker then alludes to how ... Show more content

  • 4. Pressure Ulcer Prevention Essay Pressure Ulcer Prevention in the Acute Care Setting Pressure ulcers are localized wounds to the skin that are also known as decubitus ulcers, or are known by the colloquial term bed sores. They are common occurrences in healthcare that result from injuries to the skin and the tissues beneath it when the patient remains in one position for long periods of time. Pressure ulcers are typically located over an area with a bony prominence that then causes pressure on the skin. Pressure ulcers are especially common in individuals in extended care facilities, but can occur even in an acute setting. Pressure ulcers, in fact, can develop in just 24 hours, although they may not be apparent to healthcare providers until up to 7 days later (Truong, Grigson, Patel, Liu, 2016). For immobile or relatively immobile patients, pressure ulcers are one of the most serious problems that can occur, because they can result in infections or other complications, and decrease the quality of life. As an example, a prospective cohort study conducted in Brazil found that pressure ulcers could harbor multi drug resistant bacteria that conferred a mortality rate of 100 percent (Braga, Brito, Filho, Filho, Ribas, 2016) and that were able to spread to other patients in the form of infected pressure ulcers or other hospital acquired infections. • 6. The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis The Five People You Meet In Heaven The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper meaning of the story. The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings. When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He ...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier, and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier: greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie ... Another advantage of the matrix structure is intra team communication, this allows ease of communication between the different functional product groups within the same organisation, and similarly there is less pressure on managers, quality monitoring is easier and skills are interchanged within departments of the same function thus improving efficiency. • 27. Symbolism In Keats s Ode To A Nightingale Torn between two worlds, Keats battled his own personal life between his engagement to Fanny Browne and the death of his brother. Also the poem was written approximately two years before he died. These life changing events resulted in Keats writing one of his most famous poems, Ode to a Nightingale. This poem is an escape from reality in trying to find a happy place such as the singing of the Nightingale (Fiero 9). The poem is a parallel to Keats thoughts and desires, which are directly connected to his reasoning for writing the poem, its connections to understanding nature as well as its reflection of the human consciousness and natural environment. One of the themes in Keats poem Ode to a Nightingale is reality verses imaginary (Melani). In the beginning of the poem, the bird is tangible, allowing Keats to hear its pleasant song. As the poem develops the bird becomes a symbol. The bird can represent joy, self expressions and nature s music. One concern in the poem is Keats analysis on the divided nature of humans. This includes mixed feelings of pain verses happiness, feeling verses dullness, real verses ideal and mortal verses immortal. As the poem continues to build on emotion based on human nature, the reader is able to draw conclusions and different abstractions (Melani). In this poem there is an overpowering theme directly related to romanticism, the bird representing nature and immortality while on the flip side Keats representing a worldly state of mind trying to capture the essence of the nightingale by listening to the song. His model is known as Unfreeze Change Refreeze, refers to the three stage process of change he describes. Lewin, a physicist as well as social scientist, explained organizational change using the analogy of changing the shape of a block of ice. Understanding Lewin s Model If you have a large cube of ice, but realize that what you want is a cone of ice, what do you do? First you must melt the ice to make it amenable to change (unfreeze). Then you must mold the iced water into the shape you want (change). Finally, you must solidify the new shape (refreeze). Unfreeze Change Refreeze By looking at change as process with distinct stages, you can prepare yourself for what is coming and make a plan to manage the transition looking before you leap, so to speak. All too often, people go into change blindly, causing much unnecessary turmoil and chaos. To begin any successful change process, you must first start by understanding why the change must take place. As Lewin put it, Motivation for change must be generated before change can occur. One must be helped to re examine many cherished assumptions about oneself and one s relations to others.
