Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Highest Death Rate
Abstract Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also known as SIDS, is the leading cause of death in
children under the age of one (Kaneshiro Zieve, 2009). There is no underlying cause that an
infant is at risk of SIDS, but there are many theories being tested to help determine if a child may
be at risk. Many doctors and researchers now believe that SIDS is not a single condition that is
always caused by the same medical problems, but infant death caused by several different factors
(Kaneshiro Zieve, 2009). Along with the research being done to determine risk factors for SIDS,
there are other studies being conducted to help in the prevention of SIDS. This will possibly allow
families and medical professionals to spot warning sign... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the triple risk model it suggests that three different factors or events can lead to SIDS: The
first element of the model is the critical development period, where the baby is growing and
developing rapidly. A rapid growth can make a baby s system unstable. This defect possibly will
be located in the brainstem, which is to blame for heart rate, respiratory controls and overall body
regulatory mechanisms (Firstcandle, 2010). The second element, the vulnerable infant, represents
an infant with this underlying abnormality in an area of their brain stem that controls respiration,
heart rate, temperature, arousal from sleep and other major bodily functions during early life
(Firstcandle, 2010) . The third and last element involves outside or environmental challenges,
which a normal baby can easily overcome, but a baby already vulnerable might not. Challenges
such as tobacco exposure, tummy sleeping, soft bedding, bed sharing or an upper respiratory
infection alone do not cause death for healthy infants, but could trigger a sudden, unexpected
death in a vulnerable infant (Firstcandle, 2010). According to the triple risk model, an infant will
die of SIDS only if he or she possesses all three factors described above (Firstcandle, 2010) .
Although SIDS cannot always be prevented, there are a few precautions that may reduce the risk of
SIDS. Most of these precautions are easy to implement and just might

The Shipping News by Annie Proulx-Navigating the Global...
Extension English 1 Assessment Task 2 The Shipping News Task 2(a) Formal Response By Henri
Rutherford
Annie Proulx s prose fiction novel The Shipping News explores the complexities of individual s
navigation in our modern and increasingly globalised society. Proulx would agree with the
statement The global cannot be all bad nor the local all good. In our lives today, the two must
coexist and we must learn to navigate both , and her text provides evidence to this effect. The novel
does not present the simplistic dichotomies of the global being negative and the local being
positive, but instead focuses on characters navigation through both. Proulx demonstrates that these
two different and often opposite sets of values can coexist in ... Show more content on

She defeats, intrudes and controls Quoyle, who could be said to be a representative of the many
overwhelmed and marginalized local society. This is her way of navigating a complicated world
and her eventual death is a symbol, suggesting that Proulx believes this way of navigating is
ineffective and that she disagrees with the things she represents.
Agnis Hamm, Quoyle s aunt, successfully navigates and responds to the changing global world
in the novel, through the useful cohesion of the global and local. We discover this information
and her story in various fragments throughout the book. Agnis retreats, or more accurately
withdraws, from her local birthplace of Newfoundland. This is due to various factors of the
community that were affecting her adversely. It is revealed that her father raped when she was a
young child. Alongside this is the depiction of the past Quoyle s as inbreds, pirates and primitives,
occupants of a parochial, limited and isolated community. This quote relating to Agnis s move
from the local shows this ...away from isolation, illiteracy, trousers made of worn upholstery fabric
, no teeth, away from contorted thoughts and rough hands, from desperation . Proulx s depiction of
this local community disregards the notion that the local is always good, replacing it with an
anything but positive view. In this case the lack of global values and influence within the local is
what leads it to being so defective.

Illicit Drug Use And Safe Injection Sites
Illicit Drug Use and Safe Injection Sites: A Risk or a Benefit?
Heroin, methamphetamine, and opioids have been around for centuries and the use of these drugs
is not a new phenomenon. The use of injection drugs causes individual s serious harm and have
placed large expenses on the health care system. Heroin, cocaine and other drugs kill around 0.2
million people each year, shattering families and bringing misery to thousands of other people
(United Nations iii); Because of these incidents harm reduction strategies have been put in place to
create a safer and more educated population, but it has only been a start. Safe injection sites has

202). SIS provides an upstream approach thanks to investing in solving the current complications
of IDUs. Overdoses are one of the high risk problems when working with IDUs. Marshall et al.
recorded that [b]etween Jan 1, 2001, and Dec 31, 2005, 290 accidental illicit drug overdoses
occurred within the city boundaries of Vancouver an average of 1В·1 per week (1432). With SIS,
the lack of understanding can first be addressed, followed by the precautions and knowledge the
individuals can take away to prevent an overdose occurring personally or to another individual.
Resources and support are available from the staff working at SIS, which would be lost without
these injection sites creating relationships with health care workers. With the capability for
healthcare providers to interact with this population, the ability to directly improve individual lives,
and progress quality of life is researched and argued by authorities on the matter to occur.
Sites such as Insight were originally opened because of the growing awareness surrounding the
high rates of diseases intravenous drug use is known to cause, such as HIV and the Hepatitis C
virus. With these sites leveraged as a harm reduction strategy, the purpose is to provide education
about safe drug injection practices and the ways to prevent avoidable diseases and health
threatening outcomes. SIS provides clean needles which reduce the risk of reusing needles

Management Team, Change Management And A Disaster Recovery...
IT Organization Structure The organization must use governance and best practices to ensure that
the right individuals are assigned to the appropriate roles that can support the merged organization.
IT can be a resourceful tool that facilitates growth requirements.
IT Security Privacy Companies are most vulnerable to data breaches when they exchange personal
information during a merger. Most organizations get so wrapped up in completing the deal, that
they neglect best practices. Therefore it is necessary to create a framework that guards employee
and customer data.
IT Operational Processes Ensuring that all processes and controls are in place to enable the
framework to run seamlessly. The framework should include a support management team, change
management and a disaster recovery contingency plan.
The Marriot and Starwood integration teams both worked long and hard to figure out which
systems from each organization were the most efficient. Early into the planning process we
learned that a lot of Marriott s tacit knowledge has yet to be transferred into explicit content. They
had no real system in place and the ones that they do, are not fully optimized. Marriott is a family
run business that grew into an organization; therefore they still have an old fashioned way of doing
things. Their billing functions are not electronic, as well as their files, payroll, etc. Starwood on the

The Problem Of The Hospital Emergency
The world hospital comes from Latin word hopes, which means a visitor or host who receives a
visitor. That is why in the early century, the primary goal of the hospital was to serve the poor.
Torrens (1993) states, In the early 20 the century, with the establishment of consistent medical
education, hospitals became more accepted across socioeconomic classes and became the symbol
of medicine. Since hospitals now requires more training and specialization for workers,
furthermore, need sophisticated material to delivery services, hospitals passed the poorhouses to
the symbol of the institutionalizations of health care said Niles (1994). Hospitals almost lost the
duty to provide care to people in emergency because they turned patients away who cannot pay or
indigents. That is why many people are afraid to dial 911 now even though they have an important
emergency to go to the hospitalemergency because of fear to turn way. This situation if not remedy
can cause people to die when they could be saved if they would admit to the hospital emergency.
Today, admitting to the hospital is so expensive that makes it very difficult to those who do not
have insurance to get in when there are sick. This issue becomes so common that retains the
concerns of many. For that, the government intervenes by creating institutions such as the
Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) and the Consolidated Omnibus
reconciliation Act (COBRA) created and passed by the US congress in 1986 to

Walmart uses the various BI tools in order to understand how online behavior influences in store
behaviors and vice versa (SAS Institute Inc.). From the HR perspective, Walmart seeks to
understand how to harness the knowledge of its associates and make it available and accessible for
everyone in the organization (SAS Institute Inc.). This plethora of raw data, along with the high
potential to improve both sales and HR management is a challenging task which creates a
significant demand for analytics talent.
To combat this demand, Walmart decided to apply crowdsourcing, with positive results (Marr,
2015). In 2014, Walmart turned to crowdsourced analytics competition platform Kaggle for an
army of armchair data scientists who applied their skills to analytical problems submitted by
companies (Marr, 2015). As a result of this competition, the designer of the best solution was
rewarded sometimes financially and in this case the winner was granted a job at Walmart in the
technology division.

Wal Mart even creates its own software to collect and analyze data. Walmart has been able to

Andragogy In The Military Essay
Andragogy in the Military Andragogy is the study of the art and science of how adults learn
(Reischmann, 2000). The military is comprised of adults that must be constantly trained to the
highest of proficiencies in combat and non combat supporting roles. In the military, the personnel
responsible for conducting training are noncommissioned officers, which are soldiers between the
ranks of corporal and sergeant major. Noncommissioned officers must know their soldiers and be
able to train them to the high levels of efficiency required to successfully conduct their missions.
Noncommissioned officers must practice and use andragogyregularly to continue training junior
soldiers. There are four definitions of the term adult: biological, legal, social, and psychological.
The biological definition of an adult is the age in which people can reproduce. The legal
definition of an adult is when a person is able to vote, get a driver s license, marry without
consent, etc. The social definition of an adult is the age at which people start performing adult
roles in society, such as a full time worker, spouse, parent, or voting citizen. The psychological
definition, the most obscure definition, is when a person arrives at a self concept and become
responsible for their life (Knowles, Holton Swanson, 2012). The ages in which one could be
considered an adult is very broad with these definitions; however, every soldiermeets at least three
of the four definitions. The first

Green zone in the year 2008.It is true that the period the director took to make this movie, was not a
waste. The movie lives up to the expectations of the audience (Topmann). The attention that he
gives for details, and his ability to scout talent is present in this exhilarating movie (McNeil).
Analysis of film reviewer
Movie reviewers have had different stands on Captain Phillips movie. Many movie reviewers have
criticized the movie negatively, while others have praised the efforts of the director in creating a
thoughtful account. Movie reviewers have presented mixed reactions that the audience may depict
on regards to this movie.
Ed Whitfield, Lawrence Topman and Tony Brian all agree that the movie does not live to the
expectations. Their common claim is that, Captain Phillips is just an ordinary thriller movie, Ed
Whitfield says that captain Phillips, does not have an absorbing tale to tell (Whitfield). He
describes the movie as being meaty and immensely raw (Whitfield). The critic argues that the
movie is just an ordinary thriller, with components like those in other thriller movies, an armed
siege, a game of cat and mouse (Whitfield).

The Values Of The Culture Industry Plays Up On Our...
Every community has its own set of standards that the members adhere to and uphold. These
ideologies are often unspoken ways of thinking, and while they reflect the society s values, they
are often represented in a distorted manner so that the social system stays in order. Interpellation,
on the other hand, is what discreetly holds each person in their societal position, often based on
ideologies. Whether we realize it or not, the culture industry plays up on our societal ideologies,
especially in movies and televisionprograms. Think of a typical children s TV sitcom; most of
these programs depict a white, middle class, suburban family with two heterosexual parents, three
children, a pet. Each element of this average family is ideological in assuming that the audiences
expects and believes in, or are a part of, this familial structure. By endorsing these ways of
thinking, the program is relating to the audience and validating their beliefs. For example, a young
girl interpellates when she recognizes herself as a daughter, and thus, she gives her parents power.
Children s television is not the only ideology industry; all forms of entertainment often reflect
multiple ideologies at any given moment. Tina Fey s satirical comedy, 30 Rock, provides plenty of
nods to ideologies surrounding the workplace, specifically the entertainment business. In the fifth
episode of season one, Jack Tor, Jack Donaghy, the big shot Vice President of East Coast Television

The Grid Model And Its Contribution To International...
Question 1
This case is review of the grid model and its contributions to international organizational
development. It talks about how Grid International design its learning process such that it combines
leadership styles with self convincing learning methodology that creates motivation to change and
organizational development. The Grid has seven leadership styles that are based on varying concern
for people and results. The Grid approach to change takes a four step organization development
process that builds a culture of mutual trust respect and candor through discussion of personal
values, norms and behaviors against soundest behaviors needed to accomplish standard of
excellence set by participants themselves. The process begins with individual development, then
move to intact team development, group to group development and organization strategic planning.
Grid international approach to organizational development is applied by many organizations around
the globe.

In this phase, there is the development of group to group relationships. Team to team conflicts are
resolved and a cooperative relationship is build based on mutual trust and respect. Management and
unions shared understanding of cross functional roles and develop standard of excellence for

between management and unions.
The concept of strategic human resource planning is seen in the final stage of Grid approach to
organizational development. In this stage where companies take full advantage of people common
language, standards of excellence, and skills in place to undertake organizational wide strategic

27.9% in the 2005 2010 period to $7.55 billion, as product placement growth continues to

Goldilock s Requirements To Be A Habitable Zone
Habitable zones are regions around a star in which a planet can possess H2O (water) on their
surface. It is also one that can actually sustain life or water only in its liquid form. This definition
was based on the hypothesis that life may be existing on other planets around the universe other
than the Earth. Requirements to be a Habitable Zoneis the star around the planetor region must
survive long enough for the planet to develop life and that the other planets in that region have the
proper distance from its star so that the planet could have water remain as a liquid. For example,

There are 3 planets Mars, Venus, and Mercury that are closest to being Earth like and are called
Terrestrial planets. Mars today is not a habitable planet for humans to make a living on but is
told by scientist and astronomers that on a day in the future it may be. The future for Mars
would be dependent heavily on local Red Planet Resources, such near surface water and glaciers.
Evidence starting in the 21st Century have evidence building that liquid water may be flowing
through seasonally at some of the Martian sites, which could prove life up there as all others
predicted. So until further more test is done yearly; Mars, for now, is not yet habitable but may
become one soon yet to be known. Switching to Venus, the planet that is most Earth like.
Astronomers believe that Venus may have been a habitable planet once is the past (about 2
billion in our Solar Systems history). This prediction came from the founding of Venus having a
crushed Carbon Dioxide atmosphere that is 90 times thicker than our Earth s, and there is also no
water vapor. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water ocean.
Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if a planet is habitable.
Venus, in this case, was to have a slow orbit rate since it had the thickest atmosphere. Astronomers
in the past have recorded that Venus had more dryland in the past than Earth does

Big Two-Hearted River
Ernest Hemingway s short story titled Big Two Hearted River examines the character, Nick, and
his moments of regeneration. Following his time in the war, Nick struggles to recover his identity
and purpose within society. Hemingway utilizes nature as a background to highlight Nick s
instability with his own independence. The contrast of pure freedom and serenity found in nature
delivers Nick with an overwhelming source of refuge and transcendence. Entirely consumed by this
landscape, Nick desires to be freed from his former insecurities, however, this journey reveals to
him a vast realization that his situations are not isolated and he begins to rediscovery his identity.
Regeneration is often described in contexts other than literature, yet... Show more content on

Hemingway indicates that Nick began to feel as if he was rediscovering his place in society
throughout his journey in nature. Already there was something mysterious and home like
(Hemingway, 183). This is written where Nick has just began to settle down for the night.
Simply the contrast between how he felt that morning to how he felt that night demonstrates the
transition he has begun to make. From returning from war feeling lost and out of place, to
describing his camp as a home is a progressive transformation. There are small moments
throughout the story where Nick s mood is seemingly more positive. Moments such as It was a
good feeling (Hemingway,190) when he felt the fishing line pull taught for a moment or when
his heart stopped with the excitement (Hemingway, 193) after the core of his reel revealed
itself. These are emotions that are familiar to Nick, however are feelings he has not felt in a long
time. A profound statement that Hemingway makes regarding perception is when he says [Nick]
was in his home where he had made it (Hemingway 184). Since the war, Nick had been struggling
with rediscovering his own identity. When he returned to general civilization again, he struggled
with integrating back into society, and regenerating himself as a civilian. This statement that
Hemingway makes suggests that Nick came to a realization that he was happy with who he was
and where he was. It may not have been exactly as he has expected it to be, but the man he is and
used to be is still

The Last Of The Mohicans Analysis
The book, The Last of the Mohicans, is a very deep book. There are many genres one could label
it as, but in some opinions, including my own, the most fitting one is adventure. There are a few
reasons for this, one being that the majority of the book is adventure. And there is only a little bit
of the other genres while adventure is the most fitting one. If one were to look up adventure genre,
the would find that most of the book identifies under that category. So if one asked what genre this
book was many would say adventure.
The last of the Mohicans unequivocally has a lot of adventure in it. In one of the first chapters,
the readers are introduced to an Indian who was posing as a guide for white men. When the crew
ran into Hawk eye and the Mohicans, Hawk eye quickly informed them that their guide was going
to lead them straight into an ambush. They tried to kill the guide, but he managed to get away.
Hawk eye knew that immediately after the Indian returned to his tribe the tribe would start hunting
down the new crew. They had to flew the area and find a hiding spot. All of this was in the earlier
chapters of the book and the adventure grows as time goes on. ... Show more content on

This story has a lot of action, the charters are constantly trying to get away from the Indians or
the French. The crew is almost always in danger or risk, this makes a lot of excitement for the
reader. It is a fast paced novel, it can go from one minuet fighting to the next hiding again, this
makes it hard to anticipate what is going to happen next. There is no doubt that this novel is of the
adventure genre.
If one were to ask what genre this book would be, one would think that many people would say
adventure. This is because most of the book is adventure. The reader had barely opened the book
before Hawk eye and the Mohicans tried to capture Magua. And there is a lot of adventure while
there is only a little bit of the other genres. If one was to look up the Adventure genre they would
find that this book definitely classifies under that genre, but not as much the other ones. This book
should undoubtedly be labeled under the adventure

Imagery Rehearsal Therapy
Approximately 72% of persons with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) report experiencing
traumatic nightmares (Casement Swanson, 2012). Traumatic nightmares are an intrusive symptom
of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which can negatively impact persons experiencing
symptoms after experiencing, either directly or indirectly, a traumatic experience (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Given the large proportion of persons with PTSD who experience
traumatic nightmares, it behooves social workers to be aware of interventions which can benefit
persons experiencing traumatic nightmares. Imagery Rehearsal Therapy is one intervention which

Olmec Culture Research Paper
The Olmec culture is one of the oldest cultures in Mesoamerica. The Olmecs were known as one of
the oldest cultures, as well as, the mother culture of mesoamerican cultures and were estimated to
be around from 1000 to 500 BC. The name Olmec comes from the Mexica cultures that came after.
It was not the name that the people of this culture named themselves, the name they called
themselves has been lost through history. The Olmecculture was the culture that produced rubber,
and had great workmanship in which they were able to create jade masks, celts, ornaments and
tools using different materials such as gold. This culture was able to develop and stay alive

The Olmec mask is not the size of a present day human face, but rather much smaller, and could
be compared to the size of the palm of an adults hand. The color is a deep green with a tint of
grey, which has come from the aging of the stone. While there is evidence of cremation in the
mesoamerican cultures, the color of this mask proves that the mask was not on the body during
the cremation process, but rather after the ashes were put into the body bundle. In order to
create these masks, the olmecs would carve the faces into the rock that would be used as the
mask. To create the mouth, eyes and other deep incised areas, they used a technique in which
they would attach a string to two pieces of wood and move in a saw like motion in order to heat
and shape the stone. There is no negative space evident in the masks such as no holes for the eyes,
nose, or mouth, only in the earlobes for attachment to the corpse bundle. When analyzing the
iconography of the Olmec mask, the viewer must question the symbolic meaning and the use of
conventionalized imagery. Although the symbolic meaning was not explicitly stated in any of the
ancient codecies or texts, it is assumed that the mask was a way to give the deciesed a face for
what could be the afterlife, or simply to identify the bundle. On the other hand, the repeated use of
certain aspects in the mask such as the closed, squinting

Database Backup and Disaster Recovery for ABC Company
A backup and recovery plan is necessary for the databases that the ABC Company uses for its
business needs. In the event of a natural disaster, human error, hardware failure, or any other
corruption or loss of data, backup and recovery measures will mean the difference between an
inconvenience and a catastrophic loss of company data. The following report addresses various
options for backupand recovery, and proposes what measures ABC Inc should adopt for its SQL
Server 2012 servers.
Database Backup SQL Server 2012 supports three scopes of backup and an additional special
purpose backup type. The first of the three backup types is whole database which as its name
implies, backs up the entire database. A partial database backup backs up read/write filegroups
and, possibly, one or more read only files or filegroups according to Microsoft (n.d.). File or
filegroup backups are conducted on singe file or filegroups. Finally, a copy only backup is an
out of schedule backup that is initiated for a special purpose, and does not affect the normal
cycle of backups. When a backup is conducted, it can be a full backup or a differential backup. A
full backup will copy the entire database, while a differential backup will backup only the
changes that have been made since the last backup was conducted. Whole, partial, and file
/filegroup backups all can be full or differential backups. A copy only backup can only be a full
backup because it does not change the transaction log, and

Symbols Of Death In Halloween
Symbols of death have been commonplace in western cultures since their inception. However, the
way in which these symbols are interpreted have gone through significant changes as the human
relationship to death has progressed. This relationship has been fundamentally shaped by
interactions with disease, war, and varying levels of technology, which influences the amount of
deathindividuals encounter throughout their lives. This intersectionality of causal factors,
symbolism, and interpretation of the human condition, is continually illustrated through different
cultural means, especially art and dГ©cor and holidays. In the post war to contemporary period,
Death has been largely removed from Western cultures, particularly North America and Europe, as
technological advancements, and the sanitization of the public gaze have occurred. However, an
indirect relationship to death still persists through cultural interactions with Halloween. Analysis of
the spaces in which death is opening described, visualized, and indirectly interacted, need to occur
to create a larger understanding the roots of western cultural practices, and to understand the
problematic aspects of the spectacle of death through commodification.
Within the historical trajectory of Halloween the connections to death and human mortality are
abundantly apparent. Though there are many examples of cultural practices or holidays that
celebrate or commemorate death globally, the origins of Halloween can be directly

The Fall Of The Republic And Fall
Main Article
When articles are written about the fall of the Republic and the fall of democracy, the blame is
often attributed to one man: Julius Caesar. However, a figure that tends to be overlooked in
popular history held the consulship over fifty years prior to the Republic s inevitable fall was
named Gaius Marius. Coming from an obscure Volscian town in the territory of Arpinum, sixty
miles south east of Rome, Plutarch wrote of Marius coming from poor origins and rising to the
consulship as an archetypal rags to riches story. This is nothing more than dramatic flair, since in
reality he came from a good municipal family who were members of the local aristocracy, with the
contemporary view characterising them as powerful nobles in their native town.
Upon being elected consul in 107 BC, Marius was presented with the chance to cement his legacy.
Accordingly, he began to reform the military. Before leaving for Africa, to finish off Jugurtha, he
changed the traditional way of recruitment. Previously, Roman citizens were recruited on the basis
of their property qualification: Scullard writes that the rule was that the army should be recruited
only from men enrolled in the five classes. Instead, Marius appealed to the proletarii, who were
men that lacked the necessary property qualification. This wasn t any great innovation, as property
qualifications had already been reduced. He simply completed the next logical step. But the results
of this reform were

Coke and PepsiCo opposed the move, arguing that lab tests aren t reliable enough to detect minute

both PepsiCo and competitor The Coca Cola Company must label all cans and bottles of the
respective soft drinks with a consumer warning after tests showed unacceptable levels of residual

Both companies continue to maintain that their products meet all international safety standards

PepsiCo has also been alleged to practice water piracy due to its role in exploitation of ground

The Importance Of Effective Teaching Practices Essay
Demonstrating Effective Teaching Practices Criterion two of the Teacher and Principal Evaluation
Program is Demonstrating Effective Teaching Practices (CEL 5D+, 2014, p.3). The focal point of
this criterion is developing teaching practices that engage all or most students. Implementing
effective teaching practices positively affects students in a variety of ways. It allows students to
learn the necessary skills for them to be independent lifelong learners, helps them develop a deeper
understanding and meaning of texts, find solutions to real world problems, increase
comprehension, thinking and reasoning skills as well as increases achievement (Alozie Mitchell,
2014; Chun Jang, 2012; Murphy, Wilkinson, Soter, Hennessey, Alexander, 2009; Ong, Hart, Chen,
2016; Patrick, Ryan and Kaplan, 2007; Van de Pol, Volman, Oort, Beishuizen, 2015). Criterion two
includes four sub criterions. This section will provide a description and empirical evidence to
support the following four sub criterions: quality of questioning, expectation and support and
opportunity for participation and meaning making, substance of student talk and finally, scaffolding
tasks. Quality of Questioning The first component of the second criterion is quality of questioning
(CEL 5D+, 2014). In order for teachers to become proficient in this area they must frequently ask[s]

Biography of Andrew Carnegie Essay
Biography of Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie was born into a poor working class family living in the town of Dunfermline,
Scotland, in 1835. His father operated a small hand looming business located in the family home.
The Carnegies was literate, well read, and active in the politics of the day. It was a time of
repression of the Scottish worker by the Government, the employers, and the culture. Rebellious in
thought as well as actively participating in protests was part of the Carnegie family life style. He
was exposed to all of Scotland s dramatic portrayal of Scottish Heroes. He learned the poetry and

which I dwelt with my companions, all of them refined young men, striving to improve themselves

There are many theories on why this Scottish immigrant succeeded in the land of opportunity . It

thousands of other Scottish immigrants who came to this country searching for economic

Similarities And Differences Between Olfo And Orsino
Orsino and Olivia
Orsino and Olivia are worth discussing together, because they have similar personalities. Both claim
to be buffeted by strong emotions, but both ultimately seem to be self indulgent individuals who
enjoy melodrama and self involvement more than anything. When we first meet them, Orsino is
pining away for love of Olivia, while Olivia pines away for her dead brother. They show no interest
in relating to the outside world, preferring to lock themselves up with their sorrows and mope
around their homes.
Viola s arrival begins to break both characters out of their self involved shells, but neither
undergoes a clear cut change. Orsino relates to Viola in a way that he never has to Olivia,
diminishing his self involvement and making him more likable. Yet he persists in his belief that
he is in love with Olivia until the final scene, in spite of the fact that he never once speaks to her
during the course of the play. Olivia, meanwhile, sets aside her grief when Viola (disguised as

Love is generally represented as something sudden and irresistible, something that attacks its
victim from the outside in a fashion similar to a disease. Like a disease, love is extremely
difficult to get rid of or cure. People seem to suffer painfully from it or at least they claim to
suffer. Orsino describes it as an appetite that must be satisfied (I.i.1 3); Olivia calls love a plague
(I.v.265); Viola sighs that [m]y state is desperate for my master s love (II.ii.35). Because love
makes those who suffer from it desperate, it has the potential to result in violence, as in Act V,

the play is only a few delicate steps away from turning into a tragedy a testament to how violent

Garrison Keillor s The Prodigal Son vs. Luke s The Parable of the Prodigal Son
The classic story of the Prodigal Son is one of the best known parables in literature. A parable is
often times described as a short narrative which teaches a moral; however, the plot is more
realistic, than say a fable, and the characters are humans as oppose to animals or natural forces
within nature. Parables are also presented in a more suggestive tone, which leaves them more open
to interpretation. The play Prodigal Son told by Garrison Keillor differs greatly in terms of style
compared to Lukes The Parable of the Prodigal Son told in the Catholic scriptures. Both of these
parables convey the same moral, however, both are open to very different ... Show more content on

This style merely added to the parable itself. One could argue that since the personalities in
Keillors version were more developed, it left less room for ones own interpretation. Because the
personalities of the characters were more distinct, it also alllwed for more focus on the actual
plot and the building moral. Since the moral is the true point to a parable, it would be pointless
for an audience or reader to be stuck on the their curiosity of the type of people the characters
were supposed to represent. More detail, merely aids in the strength of a parables narrative
qualities. A major difference that I noted when reading and comparing the two parables was the
usage of language. That writing style of the parables truly affected my interpretation of the
moral. Keillor took a much more modern approach to the language that the characters conversed
with. He also utilized more symbolism in the language in order to pursue more of a comedy type
piece. An example of such is when Wally returnas home and his father is ecstatic about his return,
and begins to give him gifts and attention. The father then decides amongst all his excitement that
he wants to give Wally a ring, which he had already given to the older son Dwight. Dwight
responds with, cant give it to the son who has worked his tail off for thirty years, oh no, gotta give
it to the weasel who comes dragging his butt through the door (Kennedy 1366). This language

peaks, contractions, troughs and recoveries. Predicting the whereabouts of a nation and its
economy on the trade cycle is a very important challenge; as the determination of current and
forecasted economic conditions allows governments, firms and households alike to navigate the
economy and prepare for future issues. In today s article, the Australian economic position on the
business cyclewill be forecasted using a range of different reports, models and economic criterion.
THE REPORTS Current reports, experts and articles all indicate that conditions of the global
economy are currently very poor. Looking past a number of singularities and minor issues, most
reports point towards three main economic issues as the cause of the weak worldwide markets;
poor productivity in China, recent slumps in the value of commodities, and minimal investor
confidence. This section will analyse exactly what these issues are, how they are effecting the
global economy and what impact they have on Australia.
Starting with China, the Motley Fool recently reported that falls in the level of productivity and
economic movement in the country resulted in a worldwide reduction of foreign trade and
investment. In

A Note On The Bridge Loan
A bridge loan has nothing to with bridges; it is a short term loan from a bank or other lender. For
any business owner the knowledge of bridge loans may mean the difference between failure or
success of a business venture. Commercial bridge loans are also known as hard money loans and
they are used by business owners as a stop gap arrangement while a permanent loanis being secured.
Even though home owners sometimes use bridge financing between the time they purchase or sell
their homes, it is more frequently used by business people to refinance or purchase all types of
commercial properties including commercial real estate. Today commercial bridge loans are being
used for financing a wide range of commercial properties including hotels, factories, industrial
properties, retail businesses and commercial properties having a variety of uses. Essentially a
bridge loan is used for bridging the current gap between a buyer s immediate need for cash for
closing a deal and the availability of a long term loan package for financing the deal. The terms
of bridge loans are short and vary between 12 to 36 months. After that period the long term lower
cost permanent financing package, usually from the same lender, takes its place. Like other
types of loans bridge loans also have their benefits and drawbacks. One of the major benefits of
most bridge loans is that they are designed to close very quickly. This makes them very useful
when fast cash is required to close a commercial

Violence In Rap Music Essay
Boom, boom! Boom, boom! The kind of bass that drains batteries and the kind of lyrics that
unload clips, these are the sounds that rap music produces. I chose this topic because I am
extremely interested in rap music and I want to explore the violent aspect of the industry. I have
never had a chance to look at the violent side of it and I plan to find answers to questions I have
in my search. Tupac Shakur is one of my favorite artists and when he was shot and killed I really
started to take notice of the violence. People were getting killed because of an image that was
being set. What I really want to know, however, is why rappers feel compelled to graphically
describe the violence.

Hip hop wasn t a new form of music in 1989, in fact it started in 1982 with Run DMC, but
nobody was ready for this form. The police and politicians didn t like what N.W.A was saying in
their lyrics, but all of the things they were rapping about were things that were going on around
them on a daily basis. They were seeing people being shot, drug deals going down, and women
being called b*tch*s. quot;I remember when Straight Outta Compton came out, where I lived

How does the temperature and the surface area to volume ratio of water affect the rate of water
evaporation?
We believe the rate of water evaporation is affected by the temperature and surface area to volume
ratio. The hotter the temperature of the water is, the faster it evaporates, while lower temperatures
slow down the process of evaporation. Also, the bigger the surface area is, the quicker water
evaporates, while water in containers with smaller surface areas take longer to evaporate. We
carried out two experiments to prove our claim.
One of the experiments we conducted was the temperature experiment, in which our independent
variable was temperature. First, we measured 100 milliliters in two beakers of the same size. We
put the first beaker on a hot plate with the setting on 2 for 22 minutes. When we took it off, there
were 83 milliliters left in the beaker, meaning 17 milliliters had evaporated. ... Show more content

In order to carry out this experiment, we had to go through the process of multiple steps. First, we
measured 100 ml of water in two different sized square containers. The bigger container had a
surface area of 225 centimeters squared, while the smaller container s surface area was 100 cmХ·.
Next, we put both containers under a heat lamp for an equal amount of time. Then we set the
containers aside. After 3 days, we revisited the containers and measured how much water had
evaporated. The bigger container had only 22 ml of water left, meaning 78 ml had evaporated in
the 3 days, while the smaller container still had 46 ml left, suggesting that 54 milliliters of water
had evaporated over the course of the 3 days. After recording our data, we came to the conclusion
that the bigger the surface area of the container is, the faster water evaporates, while water
evaporates slower in smaller surface

Ancestral Lines Chapter 3
Chapter three of Ancestral Lines begins with Barker being taught how to paint a Tapa (a
personally designed cloth) by two elder women, as the process is explained Barker compares the
Tapa cloth to society composed of basic elements that fit together to produce a whole. (Barker
2017:75) Barker also breaks down the three key facets of contemporary social organization: The
socialization of children into gendered adults, the formation of kin based groups and categories, and
the formation of alliance between groups through marriageexchanges and life crisis ceremonies.
(Barker 2017:75 76) Things to note about children in general and as socialized gendered adults:
when a child is born, they are not considered socially human and are believed to be vulnerable to
attacks from spirits because their souls are not yet attached to their bodies. Mothers are the main
source of care. Girls are often put to work first, assisting their mothers with cooking, cleaning, and
caring for infants. Boys contrastingly help their fathers with hunting, building, and protecting.
While inequality is prevalent, women are not without power and enjoy high levels of security and
influence. They also believe that men... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of My Antonia By Willa Cather
Everyone can think upon their past and remember a time where things were easier or more fun.
Throughout the book My Antonia by Willa Cather, longing for a time in the past is the recurring
theme. The story is told through Jim Burden s eyes and his times with the lovely Antonia. As
life goes on, Jim reminisces about his childhood with Antonia. These memories transits from
teenage years, all the way into late adulthood for Jim and Antonia. To start, the first time we see
Jim and Antonia s relationship drift is after Mr Schimerdas dies from supposedly killing himself.
When Jim comes to teach Antonia more English after that, he begins to only teach Yulka.
Antonia, being the next oldest kin, had to go out for work on the farm. I ain t got time to learn.
I can work like mens now. My mother can t say no more how Amrosch do all and nobody to help
him. I can work as much as him. School is alright for little boys. I help make this land one good
farm. (61) Antonia is already four years older than Jim, making her responsibilities even greater.
Jim misses the days where the two of them went out in adventures, but soon has to go to school in
town. This means that Jim will be even further away from Antonia. Eventually, Jim and his
Grandparents move into town so Jim can go to school. At which is bittersweet for him and the
Schimerdas. After I began to go to the country school, I saw less of the Bohemians. We were
sixteen pupils at the Sod Schoolhouse, and we all came on horseback

Tracking the Ebola Virus
These past years I spent my time tracking the virus of Ebola as well as its various strains all over
the world. At first I didn t know of the disease, only of the mysterious deaths. I had heard a rumor
of a man by the name of Monet who had become mysteriously sick with a disease that none have
seen. This information led me to Nairobi, Kenya where the man was supposed to be. When I
arrived at Nairobi Hospital I didn t encounter the man of my search. I questioned a nurse, who
asked not to be named, and she stated A very sick man named Monet came to the hospital
looking very zombie like and died but not before exploding over the waiting room and the
doctors and nurses who were operating on him. Also Dr. Musoke was infected and is now
unconscious. I then started to search for Dr. Silverstein who had cared for Dr. Musoke. When I
found Dr. Silverstein I told him what I why I was there. Though he was reluctant to reveal
information, I convinced him to tell me that Dr. Musoke was positive for a virus known as
Marburg. Apparently He had never heard of Marburg so I went to investigate. My sources found
out that Marburg is an African virus but was first discovered in Marburg, Germany. In 1967 a
factory that was working with African green monkeys from Uganda. The virus spread throughout
the monkeys causing monkeys to crash and bleed out, and soon after the virus jumped species and

Coy Wolf Research Paper
Hybridization of species in the wild is both rare and often unsuccessful. The product of hybrids are
most often sterile and unfit to survive in the natural world. North America may claim one of the
most successful hybrids of this century. The newly discovered coy wolf is a mix between two
canis species, the western coyoteand the eastern wolf. This hybrid is also called the eastern coyote
or northeastern coyote. The hybrid did not arise spontaneously. Human s set up the perfect scenario
to create a hybrid from species that would otherwise be allopatric. Humans highly influenced the
formation and success of this hybrid. Without human destruction of American ecosystems, the coy
wolf may have never walked this Earth. As European settlers arrived... Show more content on

In the eastern United States, the white tailed deer is so abundant that it is destroying broad
amounts of herbivory. Even after legal hunting season, deer are abundant even near cities. As
the coyote migrated east, the largest and most abundant food source became the white tailed
deer. The western coyote weighs on average 20 40 lbs while the white tailed deer can weight up
to 140 lbs. To take advantage of this food source, a genetic change must occur in the coyote
population. With the addition of wolf DNA, weight and muscling is added to the slim physique
of the coyote. The larger body size of northeastern coyotes is widely accepted as advantageous
for hunting large prey (Kirchman 92). The coyotes that bred with wolves became genetically
favorable over coyotes of western decent. The northeastern coyote or coy wolf became the apex
predator of the eastern region over that of the wolf or western coyote because it is able to live
off of the most abundant food source of the region. Wolves can live off of deer also, but they are
not as adaptable to industrialized areas as the coy wolf. This hybrid can also live off of more than
just deer, but almost any small game in the eastern region. They can also scavenge from the scraps
of humans such as garbage and pet

An Systematic Norms Of A Young Age
From a young age, society classifies us in order to keep our civilization organized and to avoid
chaos. However, ambiguity can be necessary at times to question the systematic norms. Gender is a
system that categorizes males and females based on their physical appearance, tone of voice, and
personality. However, these strict genderroles created by society exclude those who defy
classification, such as individuals who are non gender binary or gender fluid.
Gender is a cultural construct, completely unrelated to one s sex assigned at birth. Nevertheless,
in American culture one is assigned a specific gender the minute they are born. When we enter the
world, the doctor immediately exclaims: it s a boy! or it s a girl! and the baby is ... Show more

Even the sign on the bathroom door is of a woman wearing a dress, which presumes that all
women wear dresses or that everyone who wears a dress is a woman. This limited designation
fails to include others who may not fit the traditional stereotype, including men who self identify
as biologically male, but prefer wearing female attire, or individuals who are born biologically
male but might identify as women. Nor does this description take into consideration women who
were born biologically female, but identify as male, or women who may dress more masculine but
consider themselves female.
We are constantly being bombarded by the social constructs of gender. In advertisements women
are portrayed as beautiful, fragile and dainty, where as men are seen as powerful, strong and
masculine. These subliminal messages, along with the more blatant ones from peers, teachers,
media, and parents, serve to reinforce gender stereotypes, roles and labels. In addition, they further
alienate those who do not conform to these norms.
There are two opposite ends of the spectrum, male and female, but non gender binary and gender
fluid people do not fit neatly into these two categories. Unlike cisgenders, who identify with the
gender they were assigned at birth, non gender binary individuals do not identify with a specific
gender. More specifically, if you are non gender binary, you have

What Is The Solow Economic Growth Model And The Solow...
2.Literature Review
2.1.Introduction to the literature review
The following headings cover the theory and literature relevant to this study.
The literature review is divided into four distinct sections: Economic growth, productivity, industrial
robot density and its effect on labour.
2.2.Economic growth models
2.2.1.The Solow economic growth model and the Solow residual
Burda Severgnini (2014) stated that that for half a century the Solow decomposition and residual
theory have been used to define and measure the productivity component of growth in economics
and management. The work by Solow (1957) remains influential, as it broke the limitations of the
contemporary and restrictive labour and capital input growth models of the period. ... Show more

The so called Solow residual can be explained by the phenomenon where the growth rate in output
exceeds that of the growth rate of inputs (Ten Raa, 2011). This paved the way for the contribution
of productivity as a metric contribution to economic growth theory, and in this context why the
increased productivity effected through ever advancing robotic technologies and rate of
implementation are important to study. Robert Solow s research was core to theoretical concepts
of which the Solow residual, total factor productivity (TFP), the Solow decomposition and the Neo
classical growth model were relevant to this research.
Robert Solow s (1956) seminal essay titled: A contribution to the theory of economic growth
introduced the framework for the development of the neo classical growth model. Productivity is a
key enabler of economic growth (Autor, 2015; Krone, 2014; Mokyr, Vickers Ziebarth, 2015).
These theories affirmed the applicability of industrial robot density as an accurate metric and
enabler of economic growth within the neo classical economic growth theory

catastrophic disaster occurred August 29, 2005 killing over 1800 people and causing billions of
dollars in damages. Most of the damages were to homes, buildings, schools, and city
infrastructure. The vulnerable populations in this disaster were the elderly, the disabled, and lower

people suffered the most due to the impact of Hurricane Katrina. There is no way to 100%
accurately measure the impact that a natural disaster will have on a city or the environment but
this disaster definitely left its mark on New Orleans history as well as the United States History.
According to CNN.com, (Hurricane Katrina Statistics Fast Facts, 2014), Katrina was the single
most catastrophic natural disaster in U.S. History . Not only did this disaster take the lives of
people and cause major infrastructural damage to buildings but it also as some would say ruined

This natural disaster caused many problems for city of New Orleans, its surrounding communities,
and also the citizens that lived there. This disaster caused an abundant amount of infrastructural
damage to the levees, local businesses, grade schools, colleges, churches, high rise buildings, and
homes. The damage was so excessive that it caused the city to lose thousands of jobs in a city
where there was a shortage of jobs prior to the hurricanes damage.

Treatment Of Women In The Taming Of The Shrew
The Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare obtains various interpretations that are
viewed as debatable. The novel involves men attempting to ask for Baptista s blessing to marry his
youngest daughter, Bianca. However, the oldest daughter Katherine was not fancied by most men
because of her blunt personality and feisty attitude. Many readers, especially feminists, argue that
the Taming of the Shrewrevolves around the idea of how men oppress women by the way men find
Kat s attitude as unappealing, how Petruchio attempts to tame Kat, and at the end of the novel when
the three married men challenge each other to see which wife is the most obedient.
Kehler s Statement on What is Expected of Women The youngest sister, Bianca, was adored by
dozens of men because she was quite the opposite of her older sister, Katherine. Katherine came
off as harsh because she spoke whatever was on her mind which is why men preferred to ask for
Bianca s hand in marriage. Bianca was obedient and most importantly kept her thoughts to herself.
Bianca s soft and quiet personality did not threaten men in the slightest; therefore, the line to ask for
her hand in marriage grew. Dorothea Kehler argues, The explicit and implicit subjects of this play

Lensey Namioka s Use Of Figurative Language
Have you ever become embarrassed because you were different? The author Lensey Namioka
wrote about a girl who felt left out because her family was unique. Many authors use figurative
language to develop themes. Shel Silverstein wrote about how everyone is the same When we
turn off the light. Lensey Namioka and Shel Silverstein are two examples. They use similes,
metaphors, and hyperboles to develop the theme of tolerance in the short story The All
American Slurp, by Lensey Namioka and the poem No Difference by Shel Silverstein. In the
short story The All American Slurp, the author, Lensey Namioka uses figurative language to
develop the theme of tolerance by stating Our family retreated back to the sofa as if chased by
enemy soldiers. This shows that they were unable to tolerate the people staring at them, and had
to run away and hide. If they did tolerate the staring, they might of been able to explain that they
usually eat celery that way. Then they might of had more delicious food, and been able to talk
with everyone else. As well as that, the author stated I squirmed and died at least 50 times. This
shows the theme of tolerance because If she were able to stand up to her fears of being

  • 2. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Highest Death Rate Abstract Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also known as SIDS, is the leading cause of death in children under the age of one (Kaneshiro Zieve, 2009). There is no underlying cause that an infant is at risk of SIDS, but there are many theories being tested to help determine if a child may be at risk. Many doctors and researchers now believe that SIDS is not a single condition that is always caused by the same medical problems, but infant death caused by several different factors (Kaneshiro Zieve, 2009). Along with the research being done to determine risk factors for SIDS, there are other studies being conducted to help in the prevention of SIDS. This will possibly allow families and medical professionals to spot warning sign... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the triple risk model it suggests that three different factors or events can lead to SIDS: The first element of the model is the critical development period, where the baby is growing and developing rapidly. A rapid growth can make a baby s system unstable. This defect possibly will be located in the brainstem, which is to blame for heart rate, respiratory controls and overall body regulatory mechanisms (Firstcandle, 2010). The second element, the vulnerable infant, represents an infant with this underlying abnormality in an area of their brain stem that controls respiration, heart rate, temperature, arousal from sleep and other major bodily functions during early life (Firstcandle, 2010) . The third and last element involves outside or environmental challenges, which a normal baby can easily overcome, but a baby already vulnerable might not. Challenges such as tobacco exposure, tummy sleeping, soft bedding, bed sharing or an upper respiratory infection alone do not cause death for healthy infants, but could trigger a sudden, unexpected death in a vulnerable infant (Firstcandle, 2010). According to the triple risk model, an infant will die of SIDS only if he or she possesses all three factors described above (Firstcandle, 2010) . Although SIDS cannot always be prevented, there are a few precautions that may reduce the risk of SIDS. Most of these precautions are easy to implement and just might ... • 3. The Shipping News by Annie Proulx-Navigating the Global... Extension English 1 Assessment Task 2 The Shipping News Task 2(a) Formal Response By Henri Rutherford Annie Proulx s prose fiction novel The Shipping News explores the complexities of individual s navigation in our modern and increasingly globalised society. Proulx would agree with the statement The global cannot be all bad nor the local all good. In our lives today, the two must coexist and we must learn to navigate both , and her text provides evidence to this effect. The novel does not present the simplistic dichotomies of the global being negative and the local being positive, but instead focuses on characters navigation through both. Proulx demonstrates that these two different and often opposite sets of values can coexist in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She defeats, intrudes and controls Quoyle, who could be said to be a representative of the many overwhelmed and marginalized local society. This is her way of navigating a complicated world and her eventual death is a symbol, suggesting that Proulx believes this way of navigating is ineffective and that she disagrees with the things she represents. Agnis Hamm, Quoyle s aunt, successfully navigates and responds to the changing global world in the novel, through the useful cohesion of the global and local. We discover this information and her story in various fragments throughout the book. Agnis retreats, or more accurately withdraws, from her local birthplace of Newfoundland. This is due to various factors of the community that were affecting her adversely. It is revealed that her father raped when she was a young child. Alongside this is the depiction of the past Quoyle s as inbreds, pirates and primitives, occupants of a parochial, limited and isolated community. This quote relating to Agnis s move from the local shows this ...away from isolation, illiteracy, trousers made of worn upholstery fabric , no teeth, away from contorted thoughts and rough hands, from desperation . Proulx s depiction of this local community disregards the notion that the local is always good, replacing it with an anything but positive view. In this case the lack of global values and influence within the local is what leads it to being so defective. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heroin, methamphetamine, and opioids have been around for centuries and the use of these drugs is not a new phenomenon. The use of injection drugs causes individual s serious harm and have placed large expenses on the health care system. Heroin, cocaine and other drugs kill around 0.2 million people each year, shattering families and bringing misery to thousands of other people (United Nations iii); Because of these incidents harm reduction strategies have been put in place to create a safer and more educated population, but it has only been a start. SIS provides an upstream approach thanks to investing in solving the current complications of IDUs. Overdoses are one of the high risk problems when working with IDUs. Marshall et al. recorded that [b]etween Jan 1, 2001, and Dec 31, 2005, 290 accidental illicit drug overdoses occurred within the city boundaries of Vancouver an average of 1В·1 per week (1432). With SIS, the lack of understanding can first be addressed, followed by the precautions and knowledge the individuals can take away to prevent an overdose occurring personally or to another individual. Resources and support are available from the staff working at SIS, which would be lost without these injection sites creating relationships with health care workers. With the capability for healthcare providers to interact with this population, the ability to directly improve individual lives, and progress quality of life is researched and argued by authorities on the matter to occur. Sites such as Insight were originally opened because of the growing awareness surrounding the high rates of diseases intravenous drug use is known to cause, such as HIV and the Hepatitis C virus. With these sites leveraged as a harm reduction strategy, the purpose is to provide education about safe drug injection practices and the ways to prevent avoidable diseases and health threatening outcomes. • 5. Management Team, Change Management And A Disaster Recovery... IT Organization Structure The organization must use governance and best practices to ensure that the right individuals are assigned to the appropriate roles that can support the merged organization. IT can be a resourceful tool that facilitates growth requirements. IT Security Privacy Companies are most vulnerable to data breaches when they exchange personal information during a merger. Most organizations get so wrapped up in completing the deal, that they neglect best practices. Therefore it is necessary to create a framework that guards employee and customer data. IT Operational Processes Ensuring that all processes and controls are in place to enable the framework to run seamlessly. The framework should include a support management team, change management and a disaster recovery contingency plan. The Marriot and Starwood integration teams both worked long and hard to figure out which systems from each organization were the most efficient. Early into the planning process we learned that a lot of Marriott s tacit knowledge has yet to be transferred into explicit content. They had no real system in place and the ones that they do, are not fully optimized. Marriott is a family run business that grew into an organization; therefore they still have an old fashioned way of doing things. Their billing functions are not electronic, as well as their files, payroll, etc. Starwood on the other hand since infancy has always relied on technology to push the ... • 6. The Problem Of The Hospital Emergency The world hospital comes from Latin word hopes, which means a visitor or host who receives a visitor. That is why in the early century, the primary goal of the hospital was to serve the poor. Torrens (1993) states, In the early 20 the century, with the establishment of consistent medical education, hospitals became more accepted across socioeconomic classes and became the symbol of medicine. Since hospitals now requires more training and specialization for workers, furthermore, need sophisticated material to delivery services, hospitals passed the poorhouses to the symbol of the institutionalizations of health care said Niles (1994). Hospitals almost lost the duty to provide care to people in emergency because they turned patients away who cannot pay or indigents. That is why many people are afraid to dial 911 now even though they have an important emergency to go to the hospitalemergency because of fear to turn way. This situation if not remedy can cause people to die when they could be saved if they would admit to the hospital emergency. Today, admitting to the hospital is so expensive that makes it very difficult to those who do not have insurance to get in when there are sick. This issue becomes so common that retains the concerns of many. For that, the government intervenes by creating institutions such as the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) and the Consolidated Omnibus reconciliation Act (COBRA) created and passed by the US congress in 1986 to ... Walmart uses the various BI tools in order to understand how online behavior influences in store behaviors and vice versa (SAS Institute Inc.). From the HR perspective, Walmart seeks to understand how to harness the knowledge of its associates and make it available and accessible for everyone in the organization (SAS Institute Inc.). This plethora of raw data, along with the high potential to improve both sales and HR management is a challenging task which creates a significant demand for analytics talent. To combat this demand, Walmart decided to apply crowdsourcing, with positive results (Marr, 2015). In 2014, Walmart turned to crowdsourced analytics competition platform Kaggle for an army of armchair data scientists who applied their skills to analytical problems submitted by companies (Marr, 2015). As a result of this competition, the designer of the best solution was rewarded sometimes financially and in this case the winner was granted a job at Walmart in the technology division. • 8. Andragogy In The Military Essay Andragogy in the Military Andragogy is the study of the art and science of how adults learn (Reischmann, 2000). The military is comprised of adults that must be constantly trained to the highest of proficiencies in combat and non combat supporting roles. In the military, the personnel responsible for conducting training are noncommissioned officers, which are soldiers between the ranks of corporal and sergeant major. Noncommissioned officers must know their soldiers and be able to train them to the high levels of efficiency required to successfully conduct their missions. The legal definition of an adult is when a person is able to vote, get a driver s license, marry without consent, etc. The social definition of an adult is the age at which people start performing adult roles in society, such as a full time worker, spouse, parent, or voting citizen. The psychological definition, the most obscure definition, is when a person arrives at a self concept and become responsible for their life (Knowles, Holton Swanson, 2012). • 11. The Values Of The Culture Industry Plays Up On Our... Every community has its own set of standards that the members adhere to and uphold. These ideologies are often unspoken ways of thinking, and while they reflect the society s values, they are often represented in a distorted manner so that the social system stays in order. Interpellation, on the other hand, is what discreetly holds each person in their societal position, often based on ideologies. Whether we realize it or not, the culture industry plays up on our societal ideologies, especially in movies and televisionprograms. Think of a typical children s TV sitcom; most of these programs depict a white, middle class, suburban family with two heterosexual parents, three children, a pet. Each element of this average family is ideological in assuming that the audiences expects and believes in, or are a part of, this familial structure. By endorsing these ways of thinking, the program is relating to the audience and validating their beliefs. For example, a young girl interpellates when she recognizes herself as a daughter, and thus, she gives her parents power. Children s television is not the only ideology industry; all forms of entertainment often reflect multiple ideologies at any given moment. Tina Fey s satirical comedy, 30 Rock, provides plenty of nods to ideologies surrounding the workplace, specifically the entertainment business. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water ocean. Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if a planet is habitable. Following his time in the war, Nick struggles to recover his identity and purpose within society. Hemingway utilizes nature as a background to highlight Nick s instability with his own independence. The contrast of pure freedom and serenity found in nature delivers Nick with an overwhelming source of refuge and transcendence. Hemingway indicates that Nick began to feel as if he was rediscovering his place in society throughout his journey in nature. Already there was something mysterious and home like (Hemingway, 183). This is written where Nick has just began to settle down for the night. Simply the contrast between how he felt that morning to how he felt that night demonstrates the transition he has begun to make. From returning from war feeling lost and out of place, to describing his camp as a home is a progressive transformation. There are small moments throughout the story where Nick s mood is seemingly more positive. Moments such as It was a good feeling (Hemingway,190) when he felt the fishing line pull taught for a moment or when his heart stopped with the excitement (Hemingway, 193) after the core of his reel revealed itself. If one were to look up adventure genre, the would find that most of the book identifies under that category. So if one asked what genre this book was many would say adventure. The last of the Mohicans unequivocally has a lot of adventure in it. In one of the first chapters, the readers are introduced to an Indian who was posing as a guide for white men. When the crew ran into Hawk eye and the Mohicans, Hawk eye quickly informed them that their guide was going to lead them straight into an ambush. They tried to kill the guide, but he managed to get away. Hawk eye knew that immediately after the Indian returned to his tribe the tribe would start hunting down the new crew. The Olmec mask is not the size of a present day human face, but rather much smaller, and could be compared to the size of the palm of an adults hand. The color is a deep green with a tint of grey, which has come from the aging of the stone. While there is evidence of cremation in the mesoamerican cultures, the color of this mask proves that the mask was not on the body during the cremation process, but rather after the ashes were put into the body bundle. In order to create these masks, the olmecs would carve the faces into the rock that would be used as the mask. To create the mouth, eyes and other deep incised areas, they used a technique in which they would attach a string to two pieces of wood and move in a saw like motion in order to heat and shape the stone. However, the way in which these symbols are interpreted have gone through significant changes as the human relationship to death has progressed. This relationship has been fundamentally shaped by interactions with disease, war, and varying levels of technology, which influences the amount of deathindividuals encounter throughout their lives. This intersectionality of causal factors, symbolism, and interpretation of the human condition, is continually illustrated through different cultural means, especially art and dГ©cor and holidays. In the post war to contemporary period, Death has been largely removed from Western cultures, particularly North America and Europe, as technological advancements, and the sanitization of the public gaze have occurred. However, a figure that tends to be overlooked in popular history held the consulship over fifty years prior to the Republic s inevitable fall was named Gaius Marius. Coming from an obscure Volscian town in the territory of Arpinum, sixty miles south east of Rome, Plutarch wrote of Marius coming from poor origins and rising to the consulship as an archetypal rags to riches story. This is nothing more than dramatic flair, since in reality he came from a good municipal family who were members of the local aristocracy, with the contemporary view characterising them as powerful nobles in their native town. Upon being elected consul in 107 BC, Marius was presented with the chance to cement his legacy. Accordingly, he began to reform the military. Before leaving for Africa, to finish off Jugurtha, he changed the traditional way of recruitment. Previously, Roman citizens were recruited on the basis of their property qualification: Scullard writes that the rule was that the army should be recruited only from men enrolled in the five classes. Instead, Marius appealed to the proletarii, who were men that lacked the necessary property qualification. This wasn t any great innovation, as property qualifications had already been reduced. • 34. The Importance Of Effective Teaching Practices Essay Demonstrating Effective Teaching Practices Criterion two of the Teacher and Principal Evaluation Program is Demonstrating Effective Teaching Practices (CEL 5D+, 2014, p.3). The focal point of this criterion is developing teaching practices that engage all or most students. Implementing effective teaching practices positively affects students in a variety of ways. It allows students to learn the necessary skills for them to be independent lifelong learners, helps them develop a deeper understanding and meaning of texts, find solutions to real world problems, increase comprehension, thinking and reasoning skills as well as increases achievement (Alozie Mitchell, 2014; Chun Jang, 2012; Murphy, Wilkinson, Soter, Hennessey, Alexander, 2009; Ong, Hart, Chen, 2016; Patrick, Ryan and Kaplan, 2007; Van de Pol, Volman, Oort, Beishuizen, 2015). Criterion two includes four sub criterions. This section will provide a description and empirical evidence to support the following four sub criterions: quality of questioning, expectation and support and opportunity for participation and meaning making, substance of student talk and finally, scaffolding tasks. Quality of Questioning The first component of the second criterion is quality of questioning (CEL 5D+, 2014). In order for teachers to become proficient in this area they must frequently ask[s] questions to probe and deepen students understanding (CEL 5D+, 2014, p.3). • 36. Similarities And Differences Between Olfo And Orsino Orsino and Olivia Orsino and Olivia are worth discussing together, because they have similar personalities. Both claim to be buffeted by strong emotions, but both ultimately seem to be self indulgent individuals who enjoy melodrama and self involvement more than anything. When we first meet them, Orsino is pining away for love of Olivia, while Olivia pines away for her dead brother. They show no interest in relating to the outside world, preferring to lock themselves up with their sorrows and mope around their homes. Viola s arrival begins to break both characters out of their self involved shells, but neither undergoes a clear cut change. Orsino relates to Viola in a way that he never has to Olivia, diminishing his self involvement and making him more likable. Yet he persists in his belief that he is in love with Olivia until the final scene, in spite of the fact that he never once speaks to her during the course of the play. Orsino describes it as an appetite that must be satisfied (I.i.1 3); Olivia calls love a plague (I.v.265); Viola sighs that [m]y state is desperate for my master s love (II.ii.35). Because love makes those who suffer from it desperate, it has the potential to result in violence, as in Act V, scene i, when Orsino, thinking that Cesario is Olivia s lover, threatens to kill him. Garrison Keillor s The Prodigal Son vs. Luke s The Parable of the Prodigal Son The classic story of the Prodigal Son is one of the best known parables in literature. A parable is often times described as a short narrative which teaches a moral; however, the plot is more realistic, than say a fable, and the characters are humans as oppose to animals or natural forces within nature. Parables are also presented in a more suggestive tone, which leaves them more open to interpretation. The play Prodigal Son told by Garrison Keillor differs greatly in terms of style compared to Lukes The Parable of the Prodigal Son told in the Catholic scriptures. One could argue that since the personalities in Keillors version were more developed, it left less room for ones own interpretation. Because the personalities of the characters were more distinct, it also alllwed for more focus on the actual plot and the building moral. Since the moral is the true point to a parable, it would be pointless for an audience or reader to be stuck on the their curiosity of the type of people the characters were supposed to represent. More detail, merely aids in the strength of a parables narrative qualities. A major difference that I noted when reading and comparing the two parables was the usage of language. That writing style of the parables truly affected my interpretation of the moral. Keillor took a much more modern approach to the language that the characters conversed with. He also utilized more symbolism in the language in order to pursue more of a comedy type piece. An example of such is when Wally returnas home and his father is ecstatic about his return, and begins to give him gifts and attention. For any business owner the knowledge of bridge loans may mean the difference between failure or success of a business venture. Commercial bridge loans are also known as hard money loans and they are used by business owners as a stop gap arrangement while a permanent loanis being secured. Even though home owners sometimes use bridge financing between the time they purchase or sell their homes, it is more frequently used by business people to refinance or purchase all types of commercial properties including commercial real estate. Today commercial bridge loans are being used for financing a wide range of commercial properties including hotels, factories, industrial properties, retail businesses and commercial properties having a variety of uses. Essentially a bridge loan is used for bridging the current gap between a buyer s immediate need for cash for closing a deal and the availability of a long term loan package for financing the deal. The terms of bridge loans are short and vary between 12 to 36 months. After that period the long term lower cost permanent financing package, usually from the same lender, takes its place. Like other types of loans bridge loans also have their benefits and drawbacks. One of the major benefits of most bridge loans is that they are designed to close very quickly. We believe the rate of water evaporation is affected by the temperature and surface area to volume ratio. The hotter the temperature of the water is, the faster it evaporates, while lower temperatures slow down the process of evaporation. Also, the bigger the surface area is, the quicker water evaporates, while water in containers with smaller surface areas take longer to evaporate. We carried out two experiments to prove our claim. One of the experiments we conducted was the temperature experiment, in which our independent variable was temperature. First, we measured 100 milliliters in two beakers of the same size. We put the first beaker on a hot plate with the setting on 2 for 22 minutes. When we took it off, there were 83 milliliters left in the beaker, meaning 17 milliliters had evaporated. ... The novel involves men attempting to ask for Baptista s blessing to marry his youngest daughter, Bianca. However, the oldest daughter Katherine was not fancied by most men because of her blunt personality and feisty attitude. Many readers, especially feminists, argue that the Taming of the Shrewrevolves around the idea of how men oppress women by the way men find Kat s attitude as unappealing, how Petruchio attempts to tame Kat, and at the end of the novel when the three married men challenge each other to see which wife is the most obedient. Kehler s Statement on What is Expected of Women The youngest sister, Bianca, was adored by dozens of men because she was quite the opposite of her older sister, Katherine. Katherine came off as harsh because she spoke whatever was on her mind which is why men preferred to ask for Bianca s hand in marriage. Bianca was obedient and most importantly kept her thoughts to herself.
