Discovering an Authentic Leader
The purpose of the study was to determine how people can become an authentic leader. Over the
years, studies were conducted to establish the characteristics and personalities of an ideal leader.
However, researchers failed to develop a clear idea of an authentic leader. In addition, in the past five
years people had developed a deep distrust of leaders. Consequently, after people read Authentic
Leadership: Rediscovering the Secrets to Creating Lasting Value by Bill George, they wanted to know
how they could become and remain authentic leaders. So, a research team was sent out to answer this
question. As a result, researchers concluded that people life stories is what developed them into a great
leader. To begin with, Discovering Your Authentic Leadership , is a review article which covers the
basis on how to become a leader. When conducting the research, researchers interviewed 125 leaders
between the ages of 23 to 93. These leaders were chosen based on their reputation for authenticity and
effectiveness as leaders, as well as recommendations from other leaders and academics. The groups
included both men and women of different race, religion, ethnicity, and social backgrounds. In
addition, these leaders varied from CEO s, profit and nonprofit leaders, midcareer leaders, and young
leaders just starting out. After, interviewing and analyzing researchers discovered that these people did
not identify with the universal idea of what makes an authentic leader. On the other

Symbolism In Hills Like White Elephants And Cross Country...
The decision Between Life and Death of a child is usually a difficult decision. There s usually a
disagreement between both partners whether it takes preparation and dealing with the consequences of
accepting them into their reality. To some this could be a barrier between living life to the fullest of
happiness. Both Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants and Cross Country Snow are short
stories about couples who struggles to accept their unborn child to their reality in terms of
responsibility and their future goals. In both of the stories, Jig s Partner and Nick Adams views on
pregnancy are different in terms of dealing with the situation.Hemingway s skills are shown through
both of the short stories and therefore he is considered an expert or a master of short story of all time.

responsibility. When her partner told her that he never seen a white elephant white represents their

white elephant a different way, he sees it as a problem that gets in the way of their relationship.

My Philosophy Statement Essay
My Philosophy Statement
In this philosophy statement you will not be reading the statement of a great philosophical mind, but
of an education student who loves to work with kids and who tries to have the students best interest in
mind. comparing and contrasting my views with the views of many of the philosophical giants
throughout history I will discuss five topics: 1.) the nature of students, 2.) the nature of knowledge, 3.)
the purpose of public education, 4.) the method of education, 5.) and the curriculum that should be
used in public schools.
Taking off on the topic of the nature of human beings we need to look back at our own childhood and
try to remember our actions, if not our thoughts. Pragmatist/Progressivists ... Show more content on

I also agree with the pragmatist/progressivists about the area of evolving knowledge. Throughout our
lives, and especially in our younger years, we develop different changes and experiences. For instance,
after sent to stand in the corner for the tenth time Billy finally realized that the action of talking back
to his mother had consequences.
My third topic, the purpose of education, has several areas in it that I am going to discuss, the first
being the general importance of education. Spring outlined many goals for education. The prevention
of teenage pregnancies, prevention of drug abuse, and the prevention of the spread of sexually
transmitted diseases were among the many goals. To achieve these goals I agree with the
pragmatist/progressivists that believe that we need to teach kids how to think and not what to think.
By teaching kids how to think we will allow them to see the consequences of their actions and let
them make the decision of whether they can handle the consequences or not. Today kids are taught
what to think and not how to think so they rebel to get out from under the control of their authorities
not seeing the consequences. For this reason education is very important, because it allows students
the opportunity to make educated and well founded judgments and decisions that they may not have
been able to make otherwise.
Continuing on with my third topic, I hope to accomplish several goals as a

INTRODUCTION Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy (1828 1910) was a Russian writer and philosopher.... His
famous novels are War and Peace and Anna Karenina .... He wrote many novels and short stories....
His way of writing was very simple yet it displays the mind of the genius.... Later in his life he also
wrote many plays and essays... Tolstoy s ideas of non violent resistance had a significant impact on
Mahatma Gandhi and other political leaders.... What Men Live By is one of the short stories of Leo
Tolstoy.... It is an inspiring story as it tells us about the importance of God in our lives.... is a story of a
cobbler, Simon who had neither house nor land of his own... He lived with his wife and children in a

And also what did we learn from three truths of life? First truth is what dwells in man? And the
answer is love... When Simon saw the man he tried to avoid him and same with Matrena she also tried
avoid him but sometimes our heart over power our mind and that s what exactly happened with Simon
and Matrena.... When they saw him they realize their mistake and helped him... Death no longer seems
to his face instead he saw love on their face which is originated by god.... This shows that god has
created humans with different emotions like love, happiness, care, sorrow, jealously etc.... And this act
of Simon and Matrena shows the emotion of love,

Compare And Contrast College Football And Pro Football
Many of the fans think college football is better than pro football, but I think this is not true. Each of
the programs have differences and we should respect this, but they also have similarities as well. They
also have rules which the players have to follow. Although the penalties are severe, the nfl and college
football, have the same rules which many of the players think are fair. Also, many of the players
respect the history behind it and encourage other players to do the same.
Many of the rules which are the same are significant and should be followed by both the pro football
players and the college players. Holding penalties for the defence are both ten yards from the last dead
ball spot and a first down for the offence, or on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a team and another team tie the game, they have what is called overtime. In this period, the first
team who scores a touchdown before the other team does, wins the game. Both teams have three
timeouts, and has a chance to touch the football and try to score a touchdown. This situation is led off
of a coin flip which decides what team gets the football first.
There are some similarities about the stadiums which host the team who is playing another(away)
team. Most stadiums have a hall of fame or a historic piece of history which stands today. Many of
these stadiums are very expensive and many are asking why they have the stadiums in the first place.
The length of each football field are one hundred yards and have two end zones, which you get points
when one person walks or runs into it.
Next, is the differences. One of the differences is about the rules. One of the rules is when the players
take drugs when the doctor did not prescribe it to them, it is an offence. The penalty for college is ban
for more than three games, and for pro football, it is four or more games. Many of the pro football
players get paid and the college football players do not get paid at all, because they are in school and
they can t do anything to get paid for just playing

a world with thousands of different visions for civilization there are societies that survive and thrive
and some that fall apart, sometimes it takes a leader to steer the society in the right direction or a

the USSR did was industrializing their economy at an astounding rate, the USSR did what other
nations took generations to accomplish. Inside a generally brief time of twelve to fifteen years, an
economically backward farming nation accomplished quick economic development, made a more
modern mechanical area, and obtained new advances that transformed it from an agricultural economy
to a modern economic society. The Soviet industrialization was organized according to five year plans.
The five year plans consisted of: The first plan secured the period from 1928 to 1933 however was

Russia a self sufficient country again. Stalin tried to industrialize the country. They were afraid that if
Russia didn t modernize as a society then it would fail as a country, so the leaders rushed the
industrialization of the Russian community. They also tried to build their country over all by taking

The Age Of Innocence By Edith Wharton And The Waste Land
The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton and The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot has similar recurring
imagery. Both literary works portray two women in a way and compare these two women characters.
Wharton s portrayal of gender in the society of Old New York illustrates the perfect woman through
May Welland along with the imperfect woman through Ellen Olenska, whereas in the poem The Waste
Land by T.S. Eliot, the role and sexuality of women is shown through the juxtaposition of two women
in the section A Game of Chess.
In The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton portrays gender through the juxtaposition of Ellen and May.
May is the type of woman who personifies innocence. She always keeps up with her appearance and
personality even when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Newland fears that May wont be able to see any of the world even if she opens her eyes. Just like the
cavefish isn t able to see after living in darkness for years, May might not be able to see after living in
the shadow of society. Newland is attempting to draw May away from her innocent personality and
open her eyes to the world. He fears that May will end up like a copy of her mother, who perfectly
portrays the role of a wife in society. Newland wants more out of May, not just the perfect housewife.
Ellen Olenska portrays the other side of the juxtaposition of women in The Age of Innocence. She is
more individualistic than May and her experiences outside of the United States such as her failed
marriage in Europe show that Ellen is a woman who is independent. For this reason, Ellen fails to
grasp the social code once she enters the society of Old New York. A great example comes at the
beginning of the novel when Ellen enters the opera in clothing that is provocative for the event. When
Ellen enters the opera in this European style dress that reveals too much shoulder, she shocks Old New
York. The suggestion of this headdress, which gave her what was then called a Josephine look, was
carried out in the cut of the dark blue velvet gown rather theatrically caught up under her bosom by a
girdle with a large old fashioned clasp. The wearer of this unusual dress, who seemed quite
unconscious of the attention it was attracting [...] (6, Wharton). The

Soul and Reincarnation
Misty Yarbrough My life often seemed to me like a story that has no beginning and no end. I had the
feeling that I was an historical fragment, an excerpt for which the preceding and succeeding text was
missing. I could well imagine that I might have lived in former centuries and there encountered
questions I was not yet able to answer; that I had been born again because I had not fulfilled the task
given to me. —Carl Jung. Reincarnation is the belief that when one dies, one s body decomposes, but
one is reborn in another body. It is the belief that one has lived before and will live again in another
body after death. Carl Jung is one of the thousands of people that believe reincarnation is possible.

The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed the souls of men
are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul passes to
another body. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that men
s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail. Even Julius
Caesar wrote of the Celts They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not
become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another, and they think that men by this tenet
are in a great degree stimulated to valor, the fear of death being disregarded. Elsewhere Caesar
complained the Druids were a troublesome people. They were difficult to destroy. There is little
evidence of reincarnation among the early Hebrew people but it later became a part of the Kabbalistic
teaching. The teaching occurred among the early Christians, especially the Gnostics, Manichaeans,
and the Carthari, but was later repudiated by orthodox Christian theologians. When asked by college

Laurence Made A Habit Of Leaving The Cabin Essay
Laurence made a habit of leaving the cabin at first light. He liked the idea that his mother might be
totally oblivious to whether or not he came home at all during the evening. He had spent the previous
day sauntering between the front yard where he chopped firewood and the shaded cabin deck where
he drank cold lemonade. Every so often, mostly when Laurence was chopping apart the forest wood,
an image of the ranger s scarred and malformed face wandered into his mind. He could not think what
sort of gruesome accident or attack could have caused someone to look so malevolent. It took most of
two days to chop all of the cabin s firewood. During this time, Mrs. Rayes spent her time alternating
between drink and sleep. When Laurence had chopped all of the cabin s wood, Laurence began to
explore the forest that lined the cabin s yard and that confined the day s light to a small, square patch
of dried grass where upon his quaint cabin stood. In order to mark his passage through the tangled
forest, he made small, triangular gouges in the trunk of every seven or five or three trees. The ease in
which his hatchet cut marks into the limbs of each tree excited Laurence. With each successive mark,
Laurence felt his life made all the more significant. Without conscience effort, the marks he made in
each tree became deeper and more damaging. Some three hundred yards from the edge of the forest s
wall, Laurence, thinking once more his mother, hacked away at a singular tree until he

Piaget s Developmental Stages Essay
Piaget s developmental stages are ways of normal intellectual development. There are four different
stages. The stages start at infant age and work all the way up to adulthood. The stages include things
like judgment, thought, and knowledge of infants, children, teens, and adults. These four stages were
names after Jean Piaget a developmental biologist and psychologist. Piaget recorded intellectual
abilities and developments of infants, children, and teens. The four different stages of Piaget s
developmental stages are sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational.

I handed my infant niece, Harper, a set of keys, thinking she would shake them and giggle at the noise
they made. I thought this because in Piaget s developmental stage, sensorimotor, it states that infants
learn from experimenting and their main focus is what is happening in that very moment. My
prediction was correct. As soon as I held the keys in front of her she began to reach for them. Then
once I handed the keys to her, she rattled them making a clanging noise.
The preoperational stage is when infants become older, young children and they are able to think in a
more symbolic way. In this stage children start to learn the difference between real and make believe,
past and future. They tend to have more of an imagination as they grow older. Children in the
preoperational stage still are not completely logical with their thinking. They go more off intuition. Do
more of what they want to do, not what is the best thing to do. They are still too young to grasp the
concept of cause and effect. They also do not understand time and comparison yet.
My niece, Arianna, plays house and has baby dolls. She pretends like she is a mother to her baby dolls.

My Thoughts On Andrew Jackson
It is true, Andrew Jackson has been quoted saying My only two regrets in life, are that I did not hang
Calhoun and shoot Clay. In my personal conviction I believe that he did not say this out of an anger,
but as an explanation for his personal conflicts with Calhoun and Clay. I can see how people assumed
he was angry when he said this. Andrew Jackson had a reason to hate Calhoun, since Calhoun called
Andrew s wife a whore, and caused his family lots of problems. I think Jackson s anger towards Clay
started in 1819, when Clay castigated Jackson for his unauthorized invasion of west Florida. Clay was

finally he left for battles that he did not have permission for. Andrew Jackson did do many inhuman
things though. Jackson led the battle of Horseshoe Bend. Jackson did do inhuman things like kill any

What Occurred During The Renaissance
Giancarlo Velasquez
The Renaissance
The renaissance was a period of major advancements. From art to technology and from literature to
architecture. Artists, inventors, playwrights, architects all played huge rolls during the renaissance.
The reason why the renaissance happened was because towards the end of the Black Plague many
people were dying so they wanted to change their lifestyle. People wanted to change the way they do
things. There wasn t just one Black Plague there were a bundle of them. Since they were tired of many
people dying they chose to change how they do things. Art had a major impact during the renaissance.
The most famous artists that made a huge impact in art were Michelangelo, Rapheal, Donatello,
Leonardo, and Masaccio. You may remember the first four artist named from the hit tv show/movie
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (tmnt). But your probably thinking who the heck is Masaccio. Well he
is the guy that Michelangelo, Rapheal, Donatello, Leonardo all learned from. The funny thing is that

The SM process is the complete opposite of AM. During SM, a machine cuts material layer by layer,
leaving the desired shape. The SM machine has three basic components, which are a movable head, a
bit to cut, and the material. To visualize the subtractive manufacturing (SM) process, imagine making
a model car from a stick of butter. Your hands act as the machines head positioning the butter knife in
your hand, which acts as the bit, to make precise cuts into the butter. You continue to follow the
cutting instructions given to you and what started as a block is now a model car. That s how SM
works. Because of SM s extensive use, a standard symbolic language known as Geometric

understand designer s designs. GD T standards for SM specify geometry, material, tolerances, surface
finish, design intent and acceptable variations in geometry. These standards ensure manufacturers

Defining Fundamental Pattern of Nursing Knowledge
As a nursing professional, several aspects of knowledge are involved in the application of care. The
fundamental pattern of nursing knowledge starts with science or empirical evidences governed by
factual and explicit information and acceptable knowledge, such as the procedures and guidelines of
nursing practice. It is derived from scientific methodology that supports the intellectual explanation of
health and illness phenomena and the processes involve in the cycle of human life. (Carper, 1978).
The second pattern represents the esthetic part of nursing knowledge which is also known as the art of
nursing. The concept that is represented in this pattern is the expressive nature of delivery of care
rather than descriptive and objective in nature.

it can affect every aspect of our lives, driving many even to suicide. Few, if any, are naturally
invincible to its hidden wrath. This invisible, yet potent dilemma is obesity, or simply weight control.
In countries, such as the United States, weight control is a common, yet, dire issue. Especially, in a
society where thin is in, but for many, so are fatty foods and infrequent exercise, there is a huge and
growing demand for quick, easy schemes to lose weight. However, the true ... Show more content on

In Western terms, ma huang is considered to have diaphoretic, diuretic, central nervous system
stimulating and antiasthmatic activity. The stem (herb) of ephedra contains a number of active
compounds, including small amounts of an essential oil, and most important, one or two percent
alkaloids composed mainly of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, with ephedrine ranging from thirty to
ninety percent depending on the source.
Alone, ephedrine is a very powerful amphetamine like compound. However, as Mark Blumenthal
editor of HerbalGram and executive director of the American Botanical Council, was quoted...as
saying that he has used the stems and twigs of the Chinese herb ma huang as a cold remedy for twenty
years. He pointed out that the effects of ephedrine, a stimulant alkaloid in ma huang should not be
confused with the whole herb itself. This is a good example of how the effects of a whole herb and its
isolated constituents must be considered separately. One should not confuse ephedrine and
pseudoephedrine with ephedra, just like one shouldn t confuse pure caffeine with coffee.

Two Triangles In Virginia Woolf s To The Lighthouse
The triangle is the strongest geometric shape. It cannot physically collapse, and stresses are equally
distributed over all three legs. But the triangle, like many things that have roots in the number three,
requires a dichotomy of balance and instability. To illustrate this dichotomy, take two triangles, one
that sits upright with its single point above its base, and the other that is inverted, with the wide base
above the single point, on which the shape balances and teeters. In Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse
(1927), the solitary points of these two triangles are personified in Mrs. Ramsay (in the upright, stable
triangle) and Lily Briscoe (in the inverted triangle). The novel itself takes on a triad form, separated
into three sections: The Window, Time Passes, and The Lighthouse. Mrs. Ramsay rules in the first
section, and Lily Briscoe in the last, with the middle section a mere twenty pages that covers ten years
of time, including the death of Mrs. Ramsay acting as a transient moment of flux in which the careful
balance established during the dinner party scene in The Window fades and leaves Lily Briscoe the
sole triangle. It is in The Lighthouse that Lily Briscoe finally finishes her painting and has her vision
(Woolf, 209). This vision, and the creation and protection that both Lily and Mrs. Ramsay specialize
in, are essential to their queering of their family unit. This transaction, for both women, becomes
apparent in the climax of the novel, Mrs.

A Comparison of Biographic Features in The Sun Also Rises...
A Comparison of Biographic Features in The Sun Also Rises and The Great Gatsby The writers F.
Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway included biographical information in their novels The Great
Gatsby and The Sun Also Rises that illuminated the meaning of the work. Although The Sun Also
Rises is more closely related to actual events in Hemingway s life than The Great Gatsby was to
events in Fitzgerald s life, they both take the same approach. They both make use of non judgemental
narrators to comment on the lost generation . This narrator allows Fitzgerlald and Hemingway to write
about their own society. Fitzgerlald comments on the jaded old wealth society of the Eastern United
States and the corruption of the American Dream. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, based on the details, the narrators conclusions are relatively evident. In this novel,
Fitzgerald is able to write about his experiences from a different perspective and include his self in
both the characters of Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway.
As in many of Fitzgerald s works, he writes about a golden girl 1), the desire of every man that he
couldn t have. In the case of The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald creates the character of Daisy to fit this
discription. In actuality the motivation for Fitzgerald s writing about the golden girl came from real
events. Ginevra King was the love of [Fitzgerald s] young life. 2) In Ginevra s eyes, however,
Fitzgerald was simply one of the many men in her young life and when it came time she dropped him.
3)Most importantly, however, his rejection by Ginevra motivated much of his fiction. 4) In The Great
Gatsby, Daisy is shown by the end to be a very careless and confused who smashed up things and
creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness... and let other people
clean up the mess they had made. 5) This statement from the novel relates to Fitzgeralds own fealings
for Ginevra who used him, then dropped him when it came time leaving Francis devastated.6) This
rejection shaped Fitzgeralds view of women in general and thus affected his characterization of
women. The romance between Fitzgerald and Ginevra King is also given

Formal Vs Informal Onboarding
The formal and informal onboarding program both send a distinct message to the new hire so it is
important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of both. First, informal plans are
unstructured and without an explicit plan. An advantage of the informal plan is your company will be
able to see right away if the new employee can adjust and learn quickly on their own. It is a sink or
swim tactic that puts pressure on the employee to learn quickly without devoting any money or
resources to training the new hire. Disadvantages of this approach is that the onboarding is very loose
without any support or direction. It does not consider their needs and the process can vary for every
new hire because there is not a system that has the steps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If I was Trevor, I would write down what I need Trevor to improve on and set up a meeting to
understand why his performance has decreased so significantly. In the meeting, I would first introduce
myself and get to know Mark better on a personal level. Next, I would tell him that I have heard great
things about what he has done for the company and that I am very glad to be able to work with him. I
would then explain how I understand that he is disappointed that his older manager left that was very
close to him and his employees. Last, I would explain to him that the success of the company is key to
everyone and that his performance needs to improve and if he needs anything from me to let me know.
To conclude, I would set up a date soon to get lunch with him personally so a relationship starts to
develop between us. This is key because it seems that Mark works best when he has a good
relationship with his manager. If Mark s performance doesn t start to improve, we must start looking
deeper into the situation and possibly find a replacement for the position. The GROW coaching model

Housing Is Categorized Under Basic Commodities
Housing is categorized under basic commodities. Despite the necessity associated with proper
housing, families and individuals all over the world continue to have trouble in affording proper
housing facilities. Affordable housing refers to a kind of accommodation that is suitable for the needs
of a range of very low to medium income families. Affordable housing should be priced so that these
households can be in a position to cater for their other basic living costs such as food, medical care,
clothing, education and transport. Housing is a combined product of land and buildings.
Accommodation bargain basement relays to an individuals capability to pay for their housing at a
given point in time. It is a multifarious issue brought about by labor markets and local housing as well
as larger macro economic, environmental and social forces. As citizens in Australia continue to
experience shortage of affordable housing, economics continue to debate on the necessity of
government intervention in the issue.
Housing affordability may result to stress in situations where people strain to meet the cost of simple
yet suitable houses. Naturally, people are supposed to spend a mere 20% of their income on housing.
However, people in Australia spend more than 40 percent of their income on housing. This means that
people do not retain enough money to cater for other basic needs such as medical, food and clothing.
The lack of affordable housing means that people experience poor living

The American Of Canadian Foreign Relations
Over the course of history Canada has engaged in social, political, economic and cultural relations
with various countries. Managing relationships and foreign policy are key elements in Canadian
foreign policy. These relationships and policies have taken many different shapes and forms as
expected, and thus, the history of Canadian foreign relations is a significant part of Canada s identity
as a nation today. In particular, one aspect that is often analyzed on this topic is the how the Americans
failed to conquer Canada. One can only imagine how different Canada would be if certain battles
favoured the Americans. It is evident, that the Americans failure to conquer Canada was a result of
poor war tactics and military conduct at crucial points in time. The Americans were not fully prepared
to conquer Canada as a whole, and underestimated the Canadians in terms of their war capabilities,
loyalty and readiness for war. The Americans also naively believed they could take advantage and
attack the British during the American Revolution.
An important period to consider is 1775 1783 where crucial battles and victories emerged for Canada
against the Americans. In December of 1975, the Americans decided to attack Quebec, what is known
and referred to as the Battle of Quebec in the American Revolutionary War. The purpose or motive of
the invasion was to incorporate Quebec into the thirteen colonies. This would ultimately prove to be a
failure for the Americans, which is discussed

Defending Utilitarianism- Mill s Answer
Defending Utilitarianism:
Mill s posthumous answer to Nozick s experience machine
The greatest good for the greatest number ; that is how the British philosopher John Stuart Mill
famously summarized utilitarianism (Shafer Landau, 2012b, p. 120). He is not only one of the greatest
utilitarians, he is also a hedonist. Hence, he believed that this greatest good can be achieved by
focussing all action on attaining the greatest amount of happiness. Mill describes utility as holding that
actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the
reverse of happiness ((Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 17). He defines happiness as pleasure and the absence
of pain, and unhappiness as pain and the privation of pleasure. Hence, Mill argues that only pleasure is
intrinsically desirable and only misery intrinsically bad (Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 120). All other
desirable things are only desirable as means to promote pleasure or prevent pain (Shafer Landau,
2012a, p. 18). Therefore, in order to refute Mill s utilitarianism, one would have to show that there is
something other than pleasure or the freedom from pain that is intrinsically desirable. First, Robert
Nozick s attempt to disprove utilitarianism and hedonism in the shape of his experience machine will
be explained. Next, Mill s arguments in favour of utilitarianism and hedonism will be recapitulated in
an attempt to answer the central research question: why does Nozick s experience

Biography Of Michelangelo Essay
Michelangelo Buonarrati
The typical stereotype of artists of the past, is a lonely, tormented outsider, who creates his art through
his pain and anguish. Well Michelangelo was just that. In fact the stereotype is modeled after him. He
was an unsociable loner who didn t have many friends, lovers, or even assistants to help him. His
temper and rudeness drove others away from him and kept him lonely. However, even though he was
not the most likeable or social guy, he still produced some of the most amazing artwork ever! In fact,
although he was lonely and tortured, out of all the artists to have ever lived, Michelangelo Buonarrati

Then from 1496 1498, while in Rome, he produced Bacchus , his first large scale sculpture and one of
his few pagan works. At about the same time, he also produced one of his most famous works of art,
the Pieta , which was finished before he was 25. In the Pieta he shows his influences from fifteenth
century artists such as Donatello, while also combining them with the new Renaissance style(cgfa). It
depicts the Virgin Mary seated majestically holding the dead Christ across her lap. Furthermore, this is
his only signed piece of work ever. And is so because he overheard a pilgrim say that Cristoforo Solari
created it. So that night in a fit of rage, Michelangelo inscribed MICHEL ANGELUS BONAROTUS

resented this and swore to never sign any of his work again.
In 1501 a republic was once again brought to Florence, which received Michelangelo s full support.
Twelve days after the republic was formed, the Arte della Lana or wool guild commissioned
Michelangelo to sculpt a statue of David. The masterpiece that he produced from 1501 1504 was a
very Greek or Romanesque style, except for its large size and angry defiant facial
expressions(scholastic art). Michelangelo expressed his patriotic feelings

elements in both of the gothic works to build a dreary and gloomy ambiance and mood. The Raven

Pros And Cons Of Oral History
Oral history has been a vital source of historical and important information since the beginning of
human interaction. Recordings and one on one interviews with someone who lived through a certain
time period or particular event can often provide a substantial amount of information and evidences on
a subject that one may be researching. Unfortunately oral history does has its flaws, and it does not
always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct interviews and other
forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a few pros and cons when
using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first hand accounts of a certain event,
person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in books, articles, or journals, and
finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a subject matter the opportunity to be
heard that otherwise wouldn t. There also are several cons when using oral history as a source of
evidence. As mention earlier information from oral history can and has often been misinterpreted and
inaccurate. Another con includes biases and ideology differences effecting personal accounts of an
event or person. The final con is the creditability of the actually source. In the Hochschild book and
the interview with Stalin s daughter, these pros and cons are present. Having a first hand account of a
historical event or person can be extremely useful. Someone from a

A Shot of Fetal Tissue Many young children are vaccinated every day, but do you know what is in
vaccines? Almost all vaccines have one ingredient in common: cells from aborted baby fetuses. The
medical community needs to realize it is not appropriate to use fetus cells in vaccines for many
reasons. Some wonder how the cells are even used in vaccines. There are two specific cells used in
vaccines (depending on what the vaccine is for). WI 38 and MRC 5 are the two types. WI 38 was first
discovered in 1964 when many pregnant women with Rubella were advised to abort their babies. It
was found that the cell must be taken from the kidney of a three month old female fetus to be used in

Because almost all vaccines use fetus cells in vaccinations, many people choose not to vaccinate their
children, because the use of the aborted cells in the vaccine is against their religion. By not using fetus
cells in immunizations, it would resolve a large portion of the conscientious objectors ( Cultural
Perspectives on Vaccination , par. 7). If fetus cells were removed, it would give more people the
opportunity to be vaccinated, because it would no longer be against their religious belief. If more of
the population was vaccinated, it would help to stop the spread of diseases such as the measles. In
2005, a teenager went on a trip overseas and returned home. The teen got a disease, because they had
not been vaccinated due to their religious beliefs. Much of their community had also not been
vaccinated for the same reason, and because of this, a major outbreak occurred ( Cultural Perspectives

I was very interested in the lesson that we did with the students today because we used the ELA
rubrics to model good writing with the short and extended responses. We went through each of the
features of the short response first and showed students different examples of student s writing. They
then had to grade the student according to if it deserved 2 points, 1 point, or 0 points. By doing this the
students were able to see examples of good, fair, and bad responses. For the short response students
were able to learn that the most important feature of a short response was that it made a valid
inference or claim from the text that answered the prompt. The criteria for the expository writing was
a little more complex and took us more time to explain. Once again the students were given examples

movie was a hit in the box office and made a lot of young children and even their parents, thrilled to

movie theater, but this one the one exception. The movie is about an 11 year old girl, Riley, who
moves to San Francisco with her parents from Minnesota, due to her father s job. The main characters
of the movie, however, are not Riley and her parents, but Riley s primary emotions Happiness (Joy),
Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. These emotions give us a glimpse into the mindset of a young
adolescent girl who is having trouble adjusting to her new surroundings and faking her happiness for
her parents. This movie appealed to me because it was so relatable and it had such a deeper messages
that takes knowledge and life experience to understand. The emotions that Riley is feeling throughout
the movie really made the audience feel connected to her character. The movie exceeded my
expectations and made it completely worth going to see. The emotions in the movie were more than
just characters; they were a part of the person watching. This movie had the potential to make viewers
think about their actions and reactions towards situations in their everyday life. Riley s

Walmart Case Study Essay
Why do you think Wal Mart did not venture abroad until 1991, despite its success in the USA? Ans.
Until then they were happy enough simply to expand their business in US, after that reached a certain
size and the company had the management time to spend on it then it was time to think about
replicating that success abroad. Because the markets abroad are much more competitive than in
America where it is a slayer of small businesses, except for fresh produce sellers. Globalization has
taken off in recent years, before the turn of the century it was much more difficult and expensive for
franchises to efficiently expand outside of their native country. Q2. How would you explain wal mart
choice of countries during the early stages of international expansion in the 1990 s. Ans.
Internationally, the retailer operates in Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, China, Korea, Germany,
and the United Kingdom. Its expansion strategy internationally has been aggressive and powerful. The
latest expansion strategy is for the company to gain entry into a nation by corporate takeover of a
national retailer. Once the company is bought, Wal Mart converts the stores into Wal Mart stores.
Three countries, all with no previous Wal Mart stores, became part of the corporation s international
presence when domestic retail chains were overtaken. In 1994, Wal Mart bought 122 Woolco stores in
Canada; today there are 196 units in Canada. In 1998 Wal Mart bought the Wertkauf store with 21
units, now there

Analysis Of The Book Animals By Simon Rich
Synthesis Essay Animals by Simon Rich is an outstanding short story which takes a unique
perspective on the everyday life in a classroom. The story is written from the point of view of a
hamster who spends his tortured life entrapped in a cage. From the first point in this story it is clear
that the purpose of the writing is not to understand the hamster, but rather to analyse the different
actions of the people, and to discover that how they act towards the hamsters reflects on their
character. It is curious to view the everyday interactions of people through a different set of eyes, that
is done by humanizing the narrator s perspective. Based on the actions of the many people and the
treatment of the class pet, the author suggests that human nature is very much a product of the
financial circumstances a person is subjected to. There are a couple of key characters in this story, the
first of which is Simon. He is just one of many strikingly similar students in homeroom 2k. Simon,
like many of the students is irresponsible, and unsympathetic towards the hamsters. Simon jeopardizes
the lives of the hamsters by attempting to joke around instead of completing his assigned task, which
involves giving them food and water. The majority of the story takes place in a private school, and the
reader can make the assumption that the student s parents are wealthy. The author portrays simon as
well as the other kids in a bad light, that they are, by default, poorly behaved and somewhat

Introduction to Oboe and Bassoon
An Introduction Oboe and Bassoon By Marie A Rogers 300005290 Woodwind Techniques 1 1010
1100 Mr. Robinson The oboe is a soprano range double reed instrument with a length of 62cm. Its
wooden tube is distinguished by a conical bore that expands into a flaring bell. The modern oboe s
range extends from the B flat below middle C (b3 flat) to about 3 octaves higher (A6). The oboe has a
very narrow conical bore. It is played with a double reed consisting of two thin blades of cane tied
together on a small metal tube called a staple, which is inserted into the reed socket at the top of the
instrument. Traditionally made from African Blackwood, also called grenadilla, the instrument is
made in 3 parts. The top joint has 10 or 11 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The modern Bassoon exists in two distinct primary forms the Buffett system and the Heckle system.
Most of the world plays the Heckle system, while the Buffett system is primarily in France, Belgium,
and parts of Latin America. Bassoon techniques The Bassoon is held diagonally in front of the player,
but unlike the flute, oboe, and clarinet, it cannot be supported by the players hands alone. Some means
of additional support is required; the most common ones used are a neck strap or shoulder harness
attached to the top of the boot joint, a seat strap attached to the base of the boot joint which is laid
across the chair seat prior to sitting down. To stabilize the right hand, many Bassoonists use an
adjustable common shaped apparatus called a crutch , which mounts to the boot joint. An aspect of
Bassoon playing technique called flicking involves the momentary pressing or flicking of the high A,
C, and D keys by the left hand thumb at the beginning of certain note in the middle octave in order to
eliminate the cracking or brief microphonic that happens without the use of the key. Bassoon Reeds
Bassoon reeds, made of Arundo donax cane, are often made by the players themselves, although
beginner bassoonists tend to buy their reeds from professional reed makers or use reeds made by their
teachers. Reeds begin with a length of tube cane that is split into three or four pieces. The cane is then
trimmed and gouged to the desired thickness,

An Ethical Will Over a Monetary or Property Will
In todays world an Ethical Will seems almost foreign to many people. A monetary or property Will is a
type of Will that people are most familiar with. This deals with ones property being distributed to a
younger generation upon or near death.2 The encyclopedia Judaica defines a Will as a, person s
disposition of his property in favor of another in such manner that the testator retains the property or
his rights to it until his death. 5(page65) Some may be unaware that there are different types of
monetary Wills. The first is called a Mattenat Bari, which means, gift by a healthy person. 5 (page 65)
The second type is called a Mattenat Shekhiv, a gift by a person critically ill. 5 (pg65) The last type is
called an Mezavveh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Will would normally speak of following Jewish laws and Jewish ideals. The Ten Commandments
are sometimes stressed on their own since they are important for Jewish law. Jewish Ethical Wills
preach to protect the Torah, and keep the land of Israel safe. Also a Jewish Ethical Will usually says
one should be a responsible Jewish person who is charitable, respectful, hardworking, and continues to
study Judaism. 7
Ethical Wills are such an important piece in Judaism that they appear in the Talmud and Bible a
numerous amount of times. The first recorded Ethical Will is in chapter 49 of Genesis in the Bible.
This Will was about Jacob speaking to his kids before his death. After blessing each child, he spoke of
the missions and destinies of each child. He based what he said on the skills and talents that each child
possessed. Everything Jacob said wasn t easy to hear but he said what he wanted his kids to know. It is
actually said that Jacob was the first to get sick before dying giving him a chance to say his last words
to loved ones. Jacob actually prayed that people would become sick like he did so they could have this
opportunity since most people were healthy until the day they died in this time period. Jacob wanted
people to have the chance to give their children an Ethical Will.9
In chapters 33 and 34 of Deuteronomy, another Ethical Will is written about Moses. Before Moses
died, he offered

Examples Of Being Responsible
Essay Since the beginning of my life,I have considered myself a responsible person. From the
beginning of preschool,my biggest achievement could be to get good grades. This value followed me
my whole elementary school, which is something that helps you so much in school.Being responsible
doesn t let you do certain things that other people do,for example not studying for a test or not doing
your homework,it also made me have a perfect conduct. The problem started as I entered high
school,my responsibility was the same but My desires to do things lowered because I began feeling
exhausted.Every year I grew was a year I kept getting good grades and being responsible ,but with less

Starship Troopers Racist Ideology
This essay will focus on the relationship between the film Starship Troopers (Verhoeven; 1997; USA)
and the parodic fascist ideology that is presented in the film. The film tells the story of an
interplanetary war between Earth and colonies of large insect like aliens in the 23rd century. In brief,
this essay will delve into some of the utilized stylistic and thematic traits included in the film such as
the obvious Nazi imagery, the powerful media presence that is dictated by the State and the deliberate
satire that is used to comment on current American concerns.
Before we delve into how Starship Troopers portrays a parodic fascist/nationalistic ideology, we must
first define what ideology is, in particular, what is means in terms of cinema. ... Show more content on

Heinlein (Crim, 2009 p. 18). The novel followed a similar pattern of all his juvenile novels aimed at
male adolescents, focusing on the science of science fiction whilst following youthful education
stories and supporting an optimistic vision of space conquest (Melin, 2010). Critics took issue with the
attitude that his young protagonists portrayed, calling Heinlein s political views strongly authoritarian
and fascist. On the other hand, Verhoeven s ideology is exactly the opposite. Rather than downplaying
these fascist elements of Heinlein s novel, Verhoeven decides to play them up, giving the film s
incipient Nazism an admiring positive spin (Cass, 1999, p. 56), hence mocking the very nature of
Heinlein s novel. In his adaptation, Verhoeven gets away with cheeky, sometimes savage, parody of
patriotism with campy enthusiasm, blatant and black humour and a cast of bugs, which steal the
picture under the noses of the scrubbed and brainwashed teenage troopers. Some critics who
understood the satirical point still worried that a younger audience would not that naïve viewers would
embrace this fascist world, much as those of similar age did in the 1930s (Grimsley, 2014, p. 76).
According to Grimsley, the film s success in depicting the allure of fascism is what assists us to

Fragile X Syndrome Essay
There are many forms of mental retardation. Webster s New World Dictionary defines mental
retardation as a condition, usually congenital, characterized by subnormal intelligence (Agnes, p404).
Mental retardation can be caused by a certain birth defect due to a traumatic event during the mother s
pregnancy, or mental retardation can also be inherited. The most common inherited form of mental
retardation is Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome was identified in the year 1991. This
disability affects more males than females. Approximately 1 in 4,000 males are affected, however only
1 in 8,000 females are affected (Lombroso, 2003). Fragile X generates in the FMR1 gene. Fragile X is

many behaviors that are autistic like (NFXF, 2006). Autism is defined as a developmental disorder
marked by impaired social interaction, communication difficulties, etc (Agnes, p43). About 2 to 6% of
children with Autism have Autism because of Fragile X. About one third of children with Fragile X

definitely not be perfectly compatible if such a thing even exists with you; but they do hold the power
to make you extremely very happy. The One does exist whether soulmates do or not. They say When

Four years later the fruits of this trade is still paying off for Boston. Boston has the number pick in the
draft, and they have so many options they can go with. Markelle Fultz Is the consensus number 1 pick
on most mock drafts boards. He has the potential to be so great that recent rumors had Boston trading
their current superstar Thomas in favor for Fultz. I think Fultz and Thomas can coexist in the same
backcourt, Fultz was a point guard in college, however I think he will thrive in the NBA as shooting
guard with everyone playing small ball. Fultz doesn t need Thomas to create a shot for him, he can
create his own shot off the dribble, and if Thomas is out the game he can be the teams primary ball
handler, and the second option on offense. Fultz fits into the modern NBA because he shoots the three
at a decent rate, and he can slash and attack the rim like James Harden. If the Nets continue to struggle
just like they did this year Boston might have another top 3 pick coming their way in

What Are The Five Generic Competitive Strategies
The Five Generic Competitive Strategies
Gaining a competitive edge in a market saturated with sellers depends on developing a strategic plan
that will align with company goals and customer needs. When it comes to attracting customers,
businesses should focus on two things: (1) quality or features of the product and (2) the price of the
product (Gamble, Peteraf and Thompson, Jr. 89). Standing out against competition, however, requires
planning using competitive strategies. There are five strategies businesses can utilize to operate
competitively and become industry leaders: (1) low cost provider strategy, (2) best cost provider
strategy, (3) differentiation strategy, (4) focus low cost provider strategy and (5) focus differentiation
strategy.
Low Cost Provider Strategy
There are several ways businesses can achieve cost leadership through the implementation of a low
cost strategy. Essentially, passing on savings to customers requires the reduction of overhead costs
incurred by the business. Such costs reductions would need to take place in the form of performing
value chain activities in a more cost efficient manner than competitors or by eliminating certain
activities from the value chain altogether (Gamble et al. 90 91). Little Caesars, Aldi and Zenni Optical
have all implemented low cost strategies that have allowed them to establish themselves as leading
competitors within their industries.
Within the past ten years, Little Caesars has been able to continue to grow as a pizza chain through the
use of a low cost strategy targeting economically challenged areas. Little Caesars Hot N Ready model
focuses on luring the customer with fast service and virtually no wait time. This model has allowed
them to eliminate the delivery option offered by most major pizza chains. In doing so, customers
avoid delivery fees and higher prices because Little Caesars reduced their labor cost significantly.
Aldi is a grocery chain that has established itself as a strong competitor in the market by offering
groceries at extremely low prices. To achieve such low prices, Aldi cuts costs throughout its entire
value chain process. Some key strategies used by Aldi include only offering private labels, reducing
labor costs by

  • 2. Discovering an Authentic Leader The purpose of the study was to determine how people can become an authentic leader. Over the years, studies were conducted to establish the characteristics and personalities of an ideal leader. However, researchers failed to develop a clear idea of an authentic leader. In addition, in the past five years people had developed a deep distrust of leaders. Consequently, after people read Authentic Leadership: Rediscovering the Secrets to Creating Lasting Value by Bill George, they wanted to know how they could become and remain authentic leaders. So, a research team was sent out to answer this question. As a result, researchers concluded that people life stories is what developed them into a great leader. To begin with, Discovering Your Authentic Leadership , is a review article which covers the basis on how to become a leader. When conducting the research, researchers interviewed 125 leaders between the ages of 23 to 93. These leaders were chosen based on their reputation for authenticity and effectiveness as leaders, as well as recommendations from other leaders and academics. The groups included both men and women of different race, religion, ethnicity, and social backgrounds. In addition, these leaders varied from CEO s, profit and nonprofit leaders, midcareer leaders, and young leaders just starting out. After, interviewing and analyzing researchers discovered that these people did not identify with the universal idea of what makes an authentic leader. On the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There s usually a disagreement between both partners whether it takes preparation and dealing with the consequences of accepting them into their reality. To some this could be a barrier between living life to the fullest of happiness. Both Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants and Cross Country Snow are short stories about couples who struggles to accept their unborn child to their reality in terms of responsibility and their future goals. In both of the stories, Jig s Partner and Nick Adams views on pregnancy are different in terms of dealing with the situation.Hemingway s skills are shown through both of the short stories and therefore he is considered an expert or a master of short story of all time. • 4. My Philosophy Statement Essay My Philosophy Statement In this philosophy statement you will not be reading the statement of a great philosophical mind, but of an education student who loves to work with kids and who tries to have the students best interest in mind. comparing and contrasting my views with the views of many of the philosophical giants throughout history I will discuss five topics: 1.) the nature of students, 2.) the nature of knowledge, 3.) the purpose of public education, 4.) the method of education, 5.) and the curriculum that should be used in public schools. Taking off on the topic of the nature of human beings we need to look back at our own childhood and try to remember our actions, if not our thoughts. Pragmatist/Progressivists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also agree with the pragmatist/progressivists about the area of evolving knowledge. Throughout our lives, and especially in our younger years, we develop different changes and experiences. For instance, after sent to stand in the corner for the tenth time Billy finally realized that the action of talking back to his mother had consequences. My third topic, the purpose of education, has several areas in it that I am going to discuss, the first being the general importance of education. Spring outlined many goals for education. The prevention of teenage pregnancies, prevention of drug abuse, and the prevention of the spread of sexually transmitted diseases were among the many goals. To achieve these goals I agree with the pragmatist/progressivists that believe that we need to teach kids how to think and not what to think. By teaching kids how to think we will allow them to see the consequences of their actions and let them make the decision of whether they can handle the consequences or not. Today kids are taught what to think and not how to think so they rebel to get out from under the control of their authorities not seeing the consequences. For this reason education is very important, because it allows students the opportunity to make educated and well founded judgments and decisions that they may not have been able to make otherwise. Continuing on with my third topic, I hope to accomplish several goals as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On December 30th, 1922, the USSR was established after a conference of presiding delegations from the Russian SFSR, the South Caucasus SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR and the Byelorussian SSR that approved the treaty on the Creation of the USSR and the Declaration of the Creation of the USSR, forming the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The Soviet industrialization was organized according to five year plans. • 10. The Age Of Innocence By Edith Wharton And The Waste Land The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton and The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot has similar recurring imagery. Both literary works portray two women in a way and compare these two women characters. Wharton s portrayal of gender in the society of Old New York illustrates the perfect woman through May Welland along with the imperfect woman through Ellen Olenska, whereas in the poem The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot, the role and sexuality of women is shown through the juxtaposition of two women in the section A Game of Chess. In The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton portrays gender through the juxtaposition of Ellen and May. May is the type of woman who personifies innocence. Newland fears that May wont be able to see any of the world even if she opens her eyes. Just like the cavefish isn t able to see after living in darkness for years, May might not be able to see after living in the shadow of society. Newland is attempting to draw May away from her innocent personality and open her eyes to the world. He fears that May will end up like a copy of her mother, who perfectly portrays the role of a wife in society. Newland wants more out of May, not just the perfect housewife. Ellen Olenska portrays the other side of the juxtaposition of women in The Age of Innocence. She is more individualistic than May and her experiences outside of the United States such as her failed marriage in Europe show that Ellen is a woman who is independent. For this reason, Ellen fails to grasp the social code once she enters the society of Old New York. A great example comes at the beginning of the novel when Ellen enters the opera in clothing that is provocative for the event. When Ellen enters the opera in this European style dress that reveals too much shoulder, she shocks Old New York. The suggestion of this headdress, which gave her what was then called a Josephine look, was carried out in the cut of the dark blue velvet gown rather theatrically caught up under her bosom by a girdle with a large old fashioned clasp. • 11. Soul and Reincarnation Misty Yarbrough My life often seemed to me like a story that has no beginning and no end. I had the feeling that I was an historical fragment, an excerpt for which the preceding and succeeding text was missing. I could well imagine that I might have lived in former centuries and there encountered questions I was not yet able to answer; that I had been born again because I had not fulfilled the task given to me. —Carl Jung. Reincarnation is the belief that when one dies, one s body decomposes, but one is reborn in another body. It is the belief that one has lived before and will live again in another body after death. The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed the souls of men are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul passes to another body. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that men s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail. Even Julius Caesar wrote of the Celts They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another, and they think that men by this tenet are in a great degree stimulated to valor, the fear of death being disregarded. Elsewhere Caesar complained the Druids were a troublesome people. They were difficult to destroy. There is little evidence of reincarnation among the early Hebrew people but it later became a part of the Kabbalistic teaching. The teaching occurred among the early Christians, especially the Gnostics, Manichaeans, and the Carthari, but was later repudiated by orthodox Christian theologians. When asked by college students why Christianity does not teach reincarnation Patricia Crowther, a witch, answered, ...The early Christians taught it (reincarnation), and this can be proved by the words of Saint Gregory, Bishop of Nyssa: It is absolutely necessary that ... • 12. Laurence Made A Habit Of Leaving The Cabin Essay Laurence made a habit of leaving the cabin at first light. He liked the idea that his mother might be totally oblivious to whether or not he came home at all during the evening. He had spent the previous day sauntering between the front yard where he chopped firewood and the shaded cabin deck where he drank cold lemonade. Every so often, mostly when Laurence was chopping apart the forest wood, an image of the ranger s scarred and malformed face wandered into his mind. He could not think what sort of gruesome accident or attack could have caused someone to look so malevolent. It took most of two days to chop all of the cabin s firewood. During this time, Mrs. Rayes spent her time alternating between drink and sleep. When Laurence had chopped all of the cabin s wood, Laurence began to explore the forest that lined the cabin s yard and that confined the day s light to a small, square patch of dried grass where upon his quaint cabin stood. In order to mark his passage through the tangled forest, he made small, triangular gouges in the trunk of every seven or five or three trees. The ease in which his hatchet cut marks into the limbs of each tree excited Laurence. With each successive mark, Laurence felt his life made all the more significant. Without conscience effort, the marks he made in each tree became deeper and more damaging. Some three hundred yards from the edge of the forest s wall, Laurence, thinking once more his mother, hacked away at a singular tree until he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The stages start at infant age and work all the way up to adulthood. The stages include things like judgment, thought, and knowledge of infants, children, teens, and adults. These four stages were names after Jean Piaget a developmental biologist and psychologist. Piaget recorded intellectual abilities and developments of infants, children, and teens. I handed my infant niece, Harper, a set of keys, thinking she would shake them and giggle at the noise they made. I thought this because in Piaget s developmental stage, sensorimotor, it states that infants learn from experimenting and their main focus is what is happening in that very moment. My prediction was correct. As soon as I held the keys in front of her she began to reach for them. Then once I handed the keys to her, she rattled them making a clanging noise. The preoperational stage is when infants become older, young children and they are able to think in a more symbolic way. In this stage children start to learn the difference between real and make believe, past and future. They tend to have more of an imagination as they grow older. Children in the preoperational stage still are not completely logical with their thinking. They go more off intuition. Do more of what they want to do, not what is the best thing to do. They are still too young to grasp the concept of cause and effect. They also do not understand time and comparison yet. My niece, Arianna, plays house and has baby dolls. She pretends like she is a mother to her baby dolls. Even though this is make believe she is playing the role of a mother to her baby doll. In my personal conviction I believe that he did not say this out of an anger, but as an explanation for his personal conflicts with Calhoun and Clay. I can see how people assumed he was angry when he said this. Andrew Jackson had a reason to hate Calhoun, since Calhoun called Andrew s wife a whore, and caused his family lots of problems. • 20. Two Triangles In Virginia Woolf s To The Lighthouse The triangle is the strongest geometric shape. It cannot physically collapse, and stresses are equally distributed over all three legs. But the triangle, like many things that have roots in the number three, requires a dichotomy of balance and instability. To illustrate this dichotomy, take two triangles, one that sits upright with its single point above its base, and the other that is inverted, with the wide base above the single point, on which the shape balances and teeters. In Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse (1927), the solitary points of these two triangles are personified in Mrs. Ramsay (in the upright, stable triangle) and Lily Briscoe (in the inverted triangle). The novel itself takes on a triad form, separated into three sections: The Window, Time Passes, and The Lighthouse. Mrs. Ramsay rules in the first section, and Lily Briscoe in the last, with the middle section a mere twenty pages that covers ten years of time, including the death of Mrs. Ramsay acting as a transient moment of flux in which the careful balance established during the dinner party scene in The Window fades and leaves Lily Briscoe the sole triangle. It is in The Lighthouse that Lily Briscoe finally finishes her painting and has her vision (Woolf, 209). Managing relationships and foreign policy are key elements in Canadian foreign policy. These relationships and policies have taken many different shapes and forms as expected, and thus, the history of Canadian foreign relations is a significant part of Canada s identity as a nation today. In particular, one aspect that is often analyzed on this topic is the how the Americans failed to conquer Canada. One can only imagine how different Canada would be if certain battles favoured the Americans. It is evident, that the Americans failure to conquer Canada was a result of poor war tactics and military conduct at crucial points in time. The Americans were not fully prepared to conquer Canada as a whole, and underestimated the Canadians in terms of their war capabilities, loyalty and readiness for war. The Americans also naively believed they could take advantage and attack the British during the American Revolution. • 28. Defending Utilitarianism- Mill s Answer Defending Utilitarianism: Mill s posthumous answer to Nozick s experience machine The greatest good for the greatest number ; that is how the British philosopher John Stuart Mill famously summarized utilitarianism (Shafer Landau, 2012b, p. 120). He is not only one of the greatest utilitarians, he is also a hedonist. Hence, he believed that this greatest good can be achieved by focussing all action on attaining the greatest amount of happiness. Mill describes utility as holding that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness ((Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 17). He defines happiness as pleasure and the absence of pain, and unhappiness as pain and the privation of pleasure. Hence, Mill argues that only pleasure is intrinsically desirable and only misery intrinsically bad (Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 120). All other desirable things are only desirable as means to promote pleasure or prevent pain (Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 18). Therefore, in order to refute Mill s utilitarianism, one would have to show that there is something other than pleasure or the freedom from pain that is intrinsically desirable. First, Robert Nozick s attempt to disprove utilitarianism and hedonism in the shape of his experience machine will be explained. Next, Mill s arguments in favour of utilitarianism and hedonism will be recapitulated in an attempt to answer the central research question: why does Nozick s experience ... Unfortunately oral history does has its flaws, and it does not always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct interviews and other forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a few pros and cons when using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first hand accounts of a certain event, person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in books, articles, or journals, and finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a subject matter the opportunity to be heard that otherwise wouldn t. Almost all vaccines have one ingredient in common: cells from aborted baby fetuses. The medical community needs to realize it is not appropriate to use fetus cells in vaccines for many reasons. Some wonder how the cells are even used in vaccines. There are two specific cells used in vaccines (depending on what the vaccine is for). WI 38 and MRC 5 are the two types. WI 38 was first discovered in 1964 when many pregnant women with Rubella were advised to abort their babies. If fetus cells were removed, it would give more people the opportunity to be vaccinated, because it would no longer be against their religious belief. If more of the population was vaccinated, it would help to stop the spread of diseases such as the measles. In 2005, a teenager went on a trip overseas and returned home. Because the markets abroad are much more competitive than in America where it is a slayer of small businesses, except for fresh produce sellers. • 40. Analysis Of The Book Animals By Simon Rich Synthesis Essay Animals by Simon Rich is an outstanding short story which takes a unique perspective on the everyday life in a classroom. The story is written from the point of view of a hamster who spends his tortured life entrapped in a cage. From the first point in this story it is clear that the purpose of the writing is not to understand the hamster, but rather to analyse the different actions of the people, and to discover that how they act towards the hamsters reflects on their character. It is curious to view the everyday interactions of people through a different set of eyes, that is done by humanizing the narrator s perspective. Based on the actions of the many people and the treatment of the class pet, the author suggests that human nature is very much a product of the financial circumstances a person is subjected to. There are a couple of key characters in this story, the first of which is Simon. He is just one of many strikingly similar students in homeroom 2k. Simon, like many of the students is irresponsible, and unsympathetic towards the hamsters. Simon jeopardizes the lives of the hamsters by attempting to joke around instead of completing his assigned task, which involves giving them food and water. Introduction to Oboe and Bassoon An Introduction Oboe and Bassoon By Marie A Rogers 300005290 Woodwind Techniques 1 1010 1100 Mr. Robinson The oboe is a soprano range double reed instrument with a length of 62cm. Its wooden tube is distinguished by a conical bore that expands into a flaring bell. The modern oboe s range extends from the B flat below middle C (b3 flat) to about 3 octaves higher (A6). The oboe has a very narrow conical bore. It is played with a double reed consisting of two thin blades of cane tied together on a small metal tube called a staple, which is inserted into the reed socket at the top of the instrument. The modern Bassoon exists in two distinct primary forms the Buffett system and the Heckle system. Most of the world plays the Heckle system, while the Buffett system is primarily in France, Belgium, and parts of Latin America. Bassoon techniques The Bassoon is held diagonally in front of the player, but unlike the flute, oboe, and clarinet, it cannot be supported by the players hands alone. Some means of additional support is required; the most common ones used are a neck strap or shoulder harness attached to the top of the boot joint, a seat strap attached to the base of the boot joint which is laid across the chair seat prior to sitting down. To stabilize the right hand, many Bassoonists use an adjustable common shaped apparatus called a crutch , which mounts to the boot joint. An aspect of Bassoon playing technique called flicking involves the momentary pressing or flicking of the high A, C, and D keys by the left hand thumb at the beginning of certain note in the middle octave in order to eliminate the cracking or brief microphonic that happens without the use of the key. Bassoon Reeds Bassoon reeds, made of Arundo donax cane, are often made by the players themselves, although beginner bassoonists tend to buy their reeds from professional reed makers or use reeds made by their teachers. Reeds begin with a length of tube cane that is split into three or four pieces. The cane is then trimmed and gouged to the desired thickness, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The novel followed a similar pattern of all his juvenile novels aimed at male adolescents, focusing on the science of science fiction whilst following youthful education stories and supporting an optimistic vision of space conquest (Melin, 2010). Critics took issue with the attitude that his young protagonists portrayed, calling Heinlein s political views strongly authoritarian and fascist.
