Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) with Superconducting Magnetic En...IDES Editor
Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) has
been designed with Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage
(SMES) system. A closed loop control scheme has been
proposed with PI controller and real and reactive powers are
taken as references. A 48 pulse voltage source inverter is
designed for the SSSC. Control scheme for the chopper circuit
of SMES coil is also designed. A three area system is taken as
the test system and the operation of SSSC with SMES is
analysed for various transient disturbances. Test results under
different disturbances and operating conditions show the
proposed SSSC with SMES is effective in damping out the
power system oscillations.
A flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) is a system composed of static equipment used for the AC transmission of electrical energy. It is meant to enhance controllability and increase power transfer capability of the network. It is generally a power electronics-based system.
In conventional AC transmission system, the ability to transfer AC power is limited by several factors like thermal limits, transient stability limit, voltage limit, short circuit current limit etc. These limits define the maximum electric power which can be efficiently transmitted through the transmission line without causing any damage to the electrical equipments and the transmission lines. This is normally achieved by bringing changes in the power system layout. However this is not feasible and another way of achieving maximum power transfer capability without any changes in the power system layout. Also with the introduction of variable impedance devices like capacitors and inductors, whole of the energy or power from the source is not transferred to the load, but a part is stored in these devices as reactive power and returned back to the source. Thus the actual amount of power transferred to the load or the active power is always less than the apparent power or the net power. For ideal transmission the active power should be equal to the apparent power. In other words, the power factor (the ratio of active power to apparent power) should be unity. This is where the role of Flexible AC transmission System comes.
The significance of power factor correction (PFC) has long been visualized as a technology requirement for improving the efficiency of a power system network by compensating for the fundamental reactive power generated or consumed by simple inductive or capacitive loads. With the Information Age in full swing, the growth of high reliability, low cost electronic products have led utilities to escalate their power quality concerns created by the increase of such “switching loads.” These products include: entertainment devices such as Digital TVs, DVDs, and audio equipment; information technology devices such as PCs, printers, and fax-machines; variable speed motor drives for HVAC and white goods appliances; food preparation and cooking products such as microwaves and cook tops; and lighting products, which include electronic ballasts, LED and fluorescent lamps, and other power conversion devices that operate a variety of lamps. The drivers that have resulted in this proliferation are a direct result of the availability of low-cost switch-mode devices and control circuitry in all major end-use segments: residential, commercial, and industrial.
Here is the outline of our presentation. First we will discuss the basic concept and objectives of FACTS. Then we will see the types of FACTS and their benefits. Finally we will be presenting the results of the model we have used with series, shunt compensator as well as static var compensator.

In order to keep power quality under the limits proposed by standards, it is required to incorporate some sort of compensation. There are two basic types of PFC circuits: active and passive. The simplest power factor correctors can be implemented using a passive filter to suppress the harmonics in conjunction with capacitors or inductors to generate or consume the fundamental reactive power, respectively. Active power factor correction circuits have proven to be more effective, generally integrated with the switch-mode circuitry, and actively control the input current of the load. This enables the most efficient delivery of electrical power from the power grid to the load. The demand for new smart, green products has set the stage for a worldwide migration from antiquated passive circuits to active correctors as well as from traditional analog technology to digital techniques. New digital active power factor correction delivers better full- and light-load power efficiency while lowering system costs, enabling smaller designs and providing a clear path for further feature enhancements and improved competitive positioning for a whole host of consumer and industrial products. Cirrus Logic’s novel advances in digital active PFC technology signify a major enabling element in the development of the newest generation of low cost, energy-efficient switch mode products.

NEW STATCOM CONTROL SCHEME FOR POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN WIND FARM.sannuthi yaramapu
Now a days we are facing so many problems with power quality issues. So in order to mitigate these problems and to improve the power quality we are using new STATCOM control scheme in wind farm.
Injection of the wind power into an electric grid affects the power quality. The performance of the wind turbine and thereby power quality are determined on the basis of measurements and the norms followed according to the guideline specified in International Electro-technical Commission standard, IEC-61400. The influence of the wind turbine in the grid system concerning the power quality measurements are-the active power, reactive power, variation of voltage, flicker, harmonics, and electrical behavior of switching operation and these are measured according to national/international guidelines. The paper study demonstrates the power quality problem due to installation of wind turbine with the grid. In this proposed scheme STATic COMpensator (STATCOM) is connected at a point of common coupling with a battery energy storage system (BESS) to mitigate the power quality issues. The battery energy storage is integrated to sustain the real power source under fluctuating wind power. The STATCOM control scheme for the grid connected wind energy generation system for power quality improvement is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK in power system block set. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme relives the main supply source from the reactive power demand of the load and the induction generator. The development of the grid co-ordination rule and the scheme for improvement in power quality norms as per IEC-standard on the grid has been presented.
Recent simulation for Reactive power compensation using STATCOM that is Static Syncronous compensator on MATLAB software. It having lots of advantages over other conventional methods.
Steady State Operation And Enhancement Of Transient Stability In Hydel Power...IJMER
In this paper, the effect of STATCOM for improving the stability and steady state operation of
the hydel power system is investigated. The STATCOM is used to control power flow of power system by
injecting appropriate reactive power during dynamic state. Simulation results show that STATCOM not
only considerably improves transient stability but also compensates the reactive power in steady state.
Therefore STATCOM can increase reliability and capability of AC transmission system. To illustrate the
performance of the FACTS controller (STATCOM), a three machine nine bus, Multi-Machine Power

Control of Active And reactive power flow in transmission line and power Osci...AM Publications
the continuous demand in electric power system network has caused the system to be heavily loaded
leading to voltage instability. This paper describe the active approach to series line compensation, in which static
voltage sourced converter, is used to provide controllable series compensation. This compensator is called as Static
synchronous series compensator (SSSC). It injects the compensating voltage in phase quadrature with line current, it
can emulate as inductive or capacitive reactance so as to influence the power flow in the line. With DC power supply it
can also compensate the voltage drop across the resistive component of the line impedance. In addition, the series
reactive compensation can greatly increase the power oscillation damping.
Simulations have been done in MATLAB SIMULINK. Simulation results obtained for selected bus-2 in two machine
power system. From the result we can investigate the effect of this device in controlling active and reactive power as
well as damping power system oscillations in transient mode.

POWER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT BY SSSC AND STATCOM USING PI CONTROLLERJournal For Research
This paper presents the enhancement of voltage stability using Static Synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and Static Synchronous series compensator (SSSC). In recent past years, along with the rapid increasing electrical power requirement has caused system to be heavily loaded leading to voltage instability. Under this condition there may be insufficient reactive power causing voltage to drop at various buses. The result would be the occurrence of voltage collapse which leads to total blackout of the whole system. FACT controllers have been used for solving various stability control problems. In this paper, SSSC and STATCOM are used to investigate the effect of these devices in controlling active and reactive powers to maintain voltage stability. The PI Controller is used to tune the circuit and to provide the zero signal error. Simulation results have been presented in MATLAB/Simulink environment for two machines four buses system.

This paper presents an analysis of virtual-flux direct power control (VFDPC) technique for the three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) ac-dc converter. The proposed VFDPC is developed by assuming the grid voltage and converter line filters quantities are related to a virtual three-phase ac motor. The controller works with less number of sensors by eliminating the voltage sensors used for measuring the three-phase grid voltage. The grid virtual flux which is proportional to the grid voltage will be estimated from the information of converter switching states, line current, and dc-link output voltage. Several analyses are performed in order to study the steady state and dynamic performance of the converter, particularly during the load and DC voltage output reference variations. The proportional integral (PI) controller at the outer voltage control loop of VFDPC is tuned properly and the entire PWM ac-dc converter system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to ensure the dc output voltage follow the desired output voltage under steady state and dynamic conditions. Ac-dc converter utilizing the proposed VFDPC is able to generate three-phase input current waveforms that are almost sinusoidal with low harmonics contents which is less than 5% and near unity power factor (pf) operation.

In a deregulated power system, the electric power demand is extending ordinary which may lead to overloads and loss of generation. Transient stability studies put a fundamental part in power systems, which give information related to the capacity of a power structure to stay in synchronism during major disturbances resulting from either the loss of generation or transmission facilities, sudden or sustained changes. The examination of transient quality is discriminating to work the power structure more secure and this paper focuses on growing the transient relentlessness using FACTS devices like Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) and static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). Geochemistry and Genesis of Kammatturu Iron Ores of Devagiri Formation, Sandu...IJMER
The Greenstone belts of Karnataka are enriched in BIFs in Dharwar craton, where Iron
formations are confined to the basin shelf, clearly separated from the deeper-water iron formation that
accumulated at the basin margin and flanking the marine basin. Geochemical data procured in terms of
major, trace and REE are plotted in various diagrams to interpret the genesis of BIFs. Al2O3, Fe2O3 (T),
TiO2, CaO, and SiO2 abundances and ratios show a wide variation. Ni, Co, Zr, Sc, V, Rb, Sr, U, Th,
ΣREE, La, Ce and Eu anomalies and their binary relationships indicate that wherever the terrigenous
component has increased, the concentration of elements of felsic such as Zr and Hf has gone up. Elevated
concentrations of Ni, Co and Sc are contributed by chlorite and other components characteristic of basic
volcanic debris. The data suggest that these formations were generated by chemical and clastic
sedimentary processes on a shallow shelf. During transgression, chemical precipitation took place at the
sediment-water interface, whereas at the time of regression. Iron ore formed with sedimentary structures
and textures in Kammatturu area, in a setting where the water column was oxygenated.

Non linear analysis of Robot Gun Support Structure using Equivalent Dynamic A...IJMER
Robot guns are being increasingly employed in automotive manufacturing to replace
risky jobs and also to increase productivity. Using a single robot for a single operation proves to be
expensive. Hence for cost optimization, multiple guns are mounted on a single robot and multiple
operations are performed. Robot Gun structure is an efficient way in which multiple welds can be done
simultaneously. However mounting several weld guns on a single structure induces a variety of
dynamic loads, especially during movement of the robot arm as it maneuvers to reach the weld
locations. The primary idea employed in this paper, is to model those dynamic loads as equivalent G
force loads in FEA. This approach will be on the conservative side, and will be saving time and
subsequently cost efficient. The approach of the paper is towards creating a standard operating
procedure when it comes to analysis of such structures, with emphasis on deploying various technical
aspects of FEA such as Non Linear Geometry, Multipoint Constraint Contact Algorithm, Multizone
meshing .

This paper present an approach based on the combination of, two techniques using
decision tree and Association rule mining for Probe attack detection. This approach proves to be
better than the traditional approach of generating rules for fuzzy expert system by clustering methods.
Association rule mining for selecting the best attributes together and decision tree for identifying the
best parameters together to create the rules for fuzzy expert system. After that rules for fuzzy expert
system are generated using association rule mining and decision trees. Decision trees is generated for

Natural Language Ambiguity and its Effect on Machine LearningIJMER
"Natural language processing" here refers to the use and ability of systems to process
sentences in a natural language such as English, rather than in a specialized artificial computer
language such as C++. The systems of real interest here are digital computers of the type we think of as
personal computers and mainframes. Of course humans can process natural languages, but for us the
question is whether digital computers can or ever will process natural languages. We have tried to
explore in depth and break down the types of ambiguities persistent throughout the natural languages
and provide an answer to the question “How it affects the machine translation process and thereby
machine learning as whole?” .
Today in era of software industry there is no perfect software framework available for
analysis and software development. Currently there are enormous number of software development
process exists which can be implemented to stabilize the process of developing a software system. But no
perfect system is recognized till yet which can help software developers for opting of best software
development process. This paper present the framework of skillful system combined with Likert scale. With
the help of Likert scale we define a rule based model and delegate some mass score to every process and
develop one tool name as MuxSet which will help the software developers to select an appropriate
development process that may enhance the probability of system success.
Material Parameter and Effect of Thermal Load on Functionally Graded CylindersIJMER
The present study investigates the creep in a thick-walled composite cylinders made
up of aluminum/aluminum alloy matrix and reinforced with silicon carbide particles. The distribution
of SiCp is assumed to be either uniform or decreasing linearly from the inner to the outer radius of
the cylinder. The creep behavior of the cylinder has been described by threshold stress based creep
law with a stress exponent of 5. The composite cylinders are subjected to internal pressure which is
applied gradually and steady state condition of stress is assumed. The creep parameters required to
be used in creep law, are extracted by conducting regression analysis on the available experimental
results. The mathematical models have been developed to describe steady state creep in the composite
cylinder by using von-Mises criterion. Regression analysis is used to obtain the creep parameters
required in the study. The basic equilibrium equation of the cylinder and other constitutive equations
have been solved to obtain creep stresses in the cylinder. The effect of varying particle size, particle
content and temperature on the stresses in the composite cylinder has been analyzed. The study
revealed that the stress distributions in the cylinder do not vary significantly for various combinations
of particle size, particle content and operating temperature except for slight variation observed for
varying particle content. Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) emerged and led to the development
of superior heat resistant materials.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Abstract: This paper investigates the problem of controlling and modulating power flow in a transmission line using a
Synchronous Static Series Compensator (SSSC). The studies, which include detailed PWM techniques controlled for SSSC,
are conducted and the control circuits are presented. In this study, a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is used
to investigate the effect of this device in controlling active and reactive powers as well as damping power system oscillations
in transient mode. The SSSC equipped with a source of energy in the DC link can supply or absorb the reactive and active
power to or from the line.
Simulations have been done in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Simulation results obtained for selected bus-2 in
two machine power system shows the efficacy of this compensator as one of the FACTS devices member in controlling power
flows, achieving the desired value for active and reactive powers, and damping oscillations appropriately.
Keywords: static synchronous series compensator (SSSC), FACTS, Two machine power system, active and reactive powers.
I. INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, the need for flexible and fast power flow control in the transmission system is anticipated to increase in
the future in view of utility deregulation and power wheeling requirement. The utilities need to operate their power
transmission system much more effectively, increasing their utilization degree. Reducing the effective reactance of lines by
series compensation is a direct approach to increase transmission capability. However, power transfer capability of long
transmission lines is limited by stability considerations. Because of the power electronic switching capabilities in terms of
control and high speed, more advantages have been done in FACTS devices areas and presence of these devices in transient
stability during transient faults resulting in improvement in power system stability [1].
This paper investigates the static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) FACTS controller performance in terms
of stability improvements. A Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) is a member of FACTS family which is
connected in series with a power system. It consists of a solid state voltage source converter (VSC) which generates a
controllable alternating current voltage at fundamental frequency. When the injected voltage is kept in quadrature with the
line current, it can emulate as inductive or capacitive reactance so as to influence the power flow through the transmission
line [2,3]. While the primary purpose of a SSSC is to control power flow in steady state, it can also improve transient
stability of a power system.
II. SSSC CONFIGURATION
The basic scheme of the SSSC is shown in Fig. 1. The compensator is equipped with a source of energy, which
helps in supplying or absorbing active power to or from the transmission line along with the control of reactive power flow.
As the name suggests, SSSC is a series compensator. It is connected in series with the transmission line. Three
phase series transformers are used to connect the compensator in series with the power system.

III. BASIC OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF THE SSSC
Fig.1 shows a functional model of the SSSC where the dc capacitor has been replaced by an energy storage device
such as a high energy battery installation to allow active as well as reactive power exchanges with the ac system. The SSSC's
output voltage and phase angle can be varied in a controlled manner to influence power flows in a transmission line. The
phase displacement of the inserted voltage Vpq, with respect to the transmission line current line I , determines the exchange
of real and reactive power with the ac system.
Fig. 2 shows the SSSC operation in four quadrants, again assuming an energy storage device connected at the
SSSC’s input terminals. The line current phasor Iline is used as a reference phasor while the injected SSSC voltage phasor is
allowed to rotate around the center of the circle defined by the maximum inserted voltage V
max
pq .
Fig 2. SSSC phasor diagram
Theoretically, SSSC operation in each of the four quadrants is possible, Theoretically, SSSC operation in each of
the four quadrants is possible, but there are some limitations to the injected SSSC voltage due to operating constraints of
practical power system. In capacitive mode, the injected SSSC voltage is made to lag the transmission line current by90° ; in
this case, the SSSC operation is similar to the operation of a series capacitor with variable capacitance kXc, i.e., pq C line V
= − jKXcIline, where k is a variable. By this action, the total transmission line reactance is reduced while the voltage across
the impedance is increased, leading to increase in the line currents and transmitted power. This action is illustrated in Fig. 3.
It is also possible to reverse the injected SSSC voltage by 180° , i.e., pq line −V = jKXcIline causing an increase in the
transmission line reactance, which results in a decrease of the line current and transmitted power. While this equation for Vpq
shows changes in the phasor magnitude and phase angle, it can be somewhat misleading, since it shows that the series
injected voltage magnitude is directly proportional to the line current magnitude. In reality, this is not true; the inserted
voltage magnitude is set by the SSSC control and is independent of the network impedance and, consequently, line current
changes. It is assumed that the SSSC losses are zero and, therefore, the series injected voltage is in perfect quadrature with
the line current, leading or lagging.
IV. CONTROL SYSTEM OF SSSC
SSSC is similar to the variable reactance because the injected voltage and current to the circuit by this device are
changing depend upon to the system conditions and the loads entering/getting out. For responding to the dynamic and
transient changes created in system, SSSC utilizes the series converter as shown in Fig. 3.
One side of the converter is connected to the AC system and the other side is connected to a capacitor and battery
which in the system we assume DC source as battery. If a dynamic change in system will be occurred, SSSC circuit works
such that according to the control circuit in Fig. 4 the energy of battery will be converted to the ac form by converter and
then injecting this voltage to the circuit the changes will be damped appropriately.
To control the active and reactive powers of bus-2, the control circuit as shown in Fig. 3 is utilized. For controlling
the powers, first, sampling from the voltage and current is One side of the converter is connected to the AC system and the
other side is connected to a capacitor and battery which in the system we assume DC source as battery. If a dynamic change
in system will be occurred, SSSC circuit works such that according to the control circuit in Fig. 4 the energy of battery will
be converted to the ac form by converter and then injecting this voltage to the circuit the changes will be damped
appropriately.
To control the active and reactive powers of bus-2, the control circuit as shown in Fig. 3 is utilized. For controlling
the powers, first, sampling from the voltage and current is done and transformed to the dq0 values. Active and reactive
powers of bus-2 are calculated using their voltage and current in dq0 references and compared with the determined reference
and the produced error signal is given to the PI controllers. Adjusting parameters of the PI controllers, we are trying to
achieve the zero signal error such that powers can follow the reference powers precisely. Then, the output of the controllers
are transformed to the abc reference and given to the PWM.

Figure. 6, at first, due to the large loads of the system active power of bus-2 got oscillations which keep continuing for 3
seconds. However, the controlling systems in power plants 1 and 2 such as governor, PSS and other stabilizing devices are
used for damping these oscillations. As shown in Figure. 6, because of the abovementioned reasons reactive power of bus-2
got oscillations at first and then will be damped properly. Oscillations amplitude for active power is more than reactive
power, and this is because the ohmic parts of loads of system are much more.
According to Figure. 7, after transient mode created at first in system, voltage and current waveforms of bus-2 got
closer to sinusoidal waveforms. Voltage amplitude is 1 per unit, but, despite the drawn currents by loads in system, current
amplitude is 6.7 pu.

B. Bus-2 parameters with SSSC
As shown in Figure.8, SSSC has been placed between bus-1 and bus-2 and the aim is achieving the following active
and reactive powers:
Pref = 4 pu ; Qref = -1 pu
The main role of SSSC is controlling the active and reactive powers; beside these SSSC could fairly improve the
transient oscillations of system.
After the installation of SSSC, besides controlling the power flow in bus-2 we want to keep constant the voltage
value in 1 per unit, hence the power flow is done in the presence of SSSC and the simulation results are as follows.
According to the Fig. 9, by installing the SSSC, active power damping time will be less than the mode without
SSSC and it will be damped faster. Also as shown in Fig. 9, reactive power damping time will be decreased and system will
follow the references value with acceptable error.

C. Bus-2 parameters with a fault without SSSC
In this section a three phase fault is applied to the power system, and observing the system performance without
using SSSC.
Here, as shown in figure. 11, circuital arrangement having three phase faults is modeled using
MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Figure 12 shows the active and reactive powers of bus-2
Figure 13 shows the voltage and currents of bus-2 for the system shown above. In this chapter, we conclude that the
applied fault make disturbances in the system for a long time.

D. Bus-2 parameters with a fault with SSSC
To further test the proposed SSSC controller, a three phase fault is applied at Bus 2.also, in this simulation the
transition times is set as follows: [ 0 1 1.5 2 ]; In Fig. 14, the simulation result shows that the power oscillation on the L1
line following the three-phase fault. Moreover the performed simulation indicates that the SSSC compensator is a very
effective tool to damp power oscillation.
