Human Papilloma Virus ( Hpv )
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is currently thought to be the most common sexually transmitted
infection (STI) in the United States with roughly 79 million Americans currently affected
(CDC,2015). There are over 120 identified types of HPV (CDC, pink book); most of which infect the
cutaneous epithelium and cause common skin warts. Approximately 40 types of HPV infect the
mucosal epithelium and are categorized according to their epidemiological association with cervical
cancer: low risk type is associated with non oncogenic types and cause benign or low grad cervical
cell abnormalities, genital warts and laryngeal papillomas. High Risk Types can cause low grade
cervical cell abnormalities, high grade cervical cell abnormalities or anogenital cancers less common
than cervical cancer, such as cancer of the vulva, vagina, penis and anus. The purpose of this paper is
to explore and discuss differences in the vaginal microbiome and metabolome of women who have
been classified as HPV positive vs women who have been classified as HPV negative. These
differences are based upon a preliminary analysis which showed pathway enrichment of lipids,
sphingolipids and estrogen when comparing women that were HPV positive with women that were
HPV negative. This paper is exploratory in nature; as these topics hold great value for the rest of my
dissertation, I briefly explored the following topics of interest in order to gain further insight: HPV, the
vaginal microbiome, the life cycle of HPV, HPV

Summer Youth Leadership Scholarship Essay
Being a leader is much more than just a position. During my first year in the Summer Youth
Leadership Program (Summer Youth for short), I got a glimpse of what it felt to be a responsible
young adult, amicable colleague, and a good friend. I relished my time at the Summer Youth
Leadership Program. It influenced my life in so many ways: mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Therefore, this past 2017 summer, I decided to reapply and learn more things throughout my summer.
Because I was an alumnus, I knew I was going to receive more responsibility, higher standards, and
new situations than 2016 and I deiced to go through with the program. I told myself that I would be
resilient and persevere through it. Frankly, being a Summer Youth returner

Pentheus Death In Euripides The Bacchae
sexual love, is actually the god he says he is. This is Pentheus demise. Dionysus chooses to castigate
the willful young king by driving the women of the city into a bloodthirsty turmoil, including
Pentheus own mother. In an intense and violent scene, she leads the other women in ripping him limb
from limb, too deranged to see that it is her own son being killed. However, the story that leads up to
this is full of encounters that show where Pentheus went wrong. To avoid a tragic demise according to
Euripides, one must know their own limits and be aware of the finiteness of human life, on top of
obeying the gods. Pentheus did none of these. Euripides uses The Bacchae as a receptacle to bring
wisdom to people who do not want to meet the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether you believe in God or gods, fate, karma, or even just the forces of nature, you are imprudent
to not acknowledge that there are powers in this world greater than you. If one begins to believe that
they are above the influence of these forces, they may be seduced into ignoring the reality of their own
human limitations. We are unlikely to come across a mortal embodiment of a god, yet Euripides begs
us to consider the frailty of our own mortality. It does not to do to dwell on whatever human power we
may consider important. Even Teiresias begs Pentheus to not be so certain that power is what matters
in the life of a man (lines 333 334). It does not do to swell on the now we must be wise in our thinking
and consider the short time we may have left. We must have the wisdom to recognize that we do not

Differences And Similarities Between Hinduism And...
The world is made up of different religions that consist of different beliefs and different ways of
worshipping those beliefs. It is one s opinion to place judgment on whether a certain type of religion is
right or wrong . Essentially, religious beliefs boil down to the connection one feels within oneself.
Whether that connection can be explained by nature or spiritual beings, is determined by the beliefs a
person lives by. The most common religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and
Islam. Here, we will discuss the differences and similarities between Hinduism and Christianity. These
two religions are the most alike out of the five previously mentioned religions.
Hinduism is the major religion of India, and it unites the worshipping of many gods while believing in
a single divine reality. Hinduism can be thought of as an umbrella of many beliefs. The Hinduism
religion believes in many gods, each one having a specific purpose. Many of them are mentioned in
the Vedas, which contains the ancient scriptures of India. The Vedas are the earliest sacred books of
Hinduism, and its name translates to knowledge or sacred lore . It is said that the Vedas were revealed
to holy men of the distant past, who transmitted them to later generations. Similar to the Bible, the
Vedas were originally preserved in oral form then eventually written down. The Vedic period is
estimated to date back to about 2000 to 500 BCE. During this period is when a vast amount of

Citizen Kane Analysis
Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created today. In many
ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each one of us
who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his
political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kane owes a great deal to Orson
Welles because of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which without a
doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its time
because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema
forever.
It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many reasons is
because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope of its subject
(The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the
introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having
everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the
people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep focus technique
requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and type of camera lens to produce
the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this technique in several occasions

Persuasive Speech On Skin Cancer
Exposure to tanning beds before the age of 30 increases melanoma risk by 75 percent. This is a quote
on an advertisement in Allure magazine. Tanning beds cause skin to age prematurely. It causes the
skin to lose its elasticity and increases skin cancer. Tans are caused by harmful UV radiation from the
sun or tanning lamps, and those who have one, have sustained skin cell damage. A person with a
hereditary risk of melanoma has a greatly increased risk of developing melanoma during his or her
lifetime. There is also an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in families with familial melanoma, but
that is rare. Neutrogena published this ad in Allure magazine, July 2015. Their intentions to persuade
on the damages of tanning beds and presenting their products to reverse damage previously done were
effective. Neutrogena uses Hayden Panettiere, a well known actress, for the face of their
advertisement. It is a very up close image of her face with an all white background. It shows her skin
having a soft glow and looking healthy. Her eyes are shining and she appears to be happy. She is
wearing a white tank top, making her skin glow brighter. Her hair is softly flowing and golden.
Hayden s skin looks completely flawless. Seeing as how all girls long for flawless looking skin, the
publishers did a wonderful job of picking the perfect face for their advertisement. In big, bold letters,
it says, Hayden Panettiere s idea of perfect skin? Skin that s never seen a tanning bed. In

Modern Juvenile Justice System
Today, the debate over the development and change of the modern juvenile justice system raises the
problem of its adaptation to the specific environment, where the juvenile justice system is
implemented. To put it more precisely, the juvenile justice system is traditionally different from the
adult justice system. However, today, the youth tends to commit serious crimes, which raise the public
criticism in relation to the modern juvenile justice system because the punishment of juveniles is
considered by average citizens irrelevant to the crime they commit. In such a case, violent crimes
committed by juveniles provoke a particularly severe criticism of the modern juvenile justice system.
However, the public is often unaware of the substantial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is meant here is the fact that, unlike adult offenders, juveniles have larger options in this regard.
At this point, it is possible to refer to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974
(JJDPA), which resulted in dramatic changes mandating the removal of juveniles from adult jails and
police lock ups, requiring a parallel system of juvenile detention centers for those who needed to be
held securely, and forbidding the secure confinement of status offenders and children in need of
supervision (Hayward, 2004). In such a way, the practice of using juvenile detention centers was
rejected and replaced by other programs, which introduced less restrictive measures on the freedom of
juvenile offenders and put them into less strict conditions. In this respect, it is possible to distinguish
three major pre adjudication programs juvenile offenders may be involved in, including shelters,
holdover programs, and home detention. First, shelters are widely used and involve the community
assistance to juvenile offenders detention. In terms of this program, some communities have non
secure, temporary residential facilities intended for children removed from their homes in the initial
stages of child protective services investigations or for children who may be picked up by police as
status offenders (Reiman, 2006). As for holdover programs, they also aim at securing the position of
juveniles. Holdover program requires a room (this might be located in a police station or sheriff s
department, or some other public facility) and someone (either a volunteer or part time employee) who
can provide continuous supervision of a youth for a few hours or overnight pending transportation
(Reiman, 2006). Finally, the home detention is another program that may be applied in terms of the
pre adjudication. In actuality, the home

Dean Bond Fleming was a teacher, minister, and philosopher in Oxford College of Emory University.
An active member in the Oxford community, Dean Bond Fleming was significant because he
incorporated Oxford College into Emory University, redesigned the Oxford campus, altered
recruitment efforts, and inspired Oxford students. Similar to Dean Bond Fleming, I plan to get
involved in campus activities; including clubs like Chemox, Circle K, and Volunteer Oxford because I
want to make the Oxford community better. Although Dean Bond Fleming did pass away at the age of
ninety nine, his legacy in the Oxford College community will live on. An active member in the Oxford
community, Dean Bond Fleming was an alumni of Emory and Candler School of Theology. Motivated
to create strong bonds between Oxford College and Emory University, he was able to build this link
under his administration. Additionally, he integrated a new library, gymnasiums, and a commonplace

dinosaurs couldn t. Birds also survived, and are the only descendants of dinosaurs that survived the
mass extinction other than lizards. Frogs and salamanders are among the few small amphibians that

of the world s population were thought to have died out in the course of this event. Many species

some cephalopod molluscs.

Innovations In The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire strengthened through legal innovations such as the creation of the Code of
Justinian. The code was a collection up many edicts and rulings regarding law by previous emperors,
which unified and organized the empire. Prior to the code, the Byzantine Empire s laws were
multitudinous and very confusing. Furthermore, military innovations saved the capital from the Arabs
who laid a major siege. A napalm like weapon called Greek fire was used to destroy Arab ships at the
coasts. This new weapon contained chemicals that ignited as it touched water. It helped drive back the
Arab naval forces. Also, the empire expanded religious innovations through the building of new
churches such as the Hagia Sophia. It was an achievement for Christianity and engineering. No other
building in the world at the time could support a dome so large. However, it later became a mosque
when the Ottoman Turks conquered the Byzantine Empire. Caesaropapism became evident in
Byzantine Empire as it incorporated the state and the church in society. However, the state was
superior than the church. For example, the emperor appointed the leaders of the church ... Show more

They became the sole provider of silk in the Byzantine Empire. However, merchants were allowed to
buy silk outside of Constantinople, but they were not allowed to travel outside of the city. Finally,
coinage played a huge role to the empire s trade, because it allowed organization within the empire

Marketing Activities, Tools And Strategies
Founded less than 2 years ago with a small band of 30 exceptionally talented young people, the Never
Settle motto of the Chinese startup company called Oneplus popped into the headlines of tech
magazines by creating an amazing flagship killer handset dubbed Oneplus One. Few even heard of its
name back then and now, you will find long queues like that of Apple and Samsung, such that it had to
create an invite system, amping up the demand and a whole new secondary market of reselling invites.
How did it manage to sell over 1 million sets in just 18 months, with a gross revenue of $300 million
(as of 2014) and serving over 35 countries including whole of Europe with almost no marketing
budget? The powerhouse behind its galloping growth lies in its effective marketing and risk control
and this essay will discuss the key marketing activities, tools and strategies a company uses to build its
repute, and in this context, as a premium smartphone manufacturer.
According to AMA (2013), Marketing is defined as the activity, set of institutions, and processes for
creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients,
partners, and society at large. It manages conveying the right item, to the right individuals at the right
cost and at the ideal time.
Marketing is the link that connect customers with the organisation as it is the only department who
knows the holistic nature of customers through it activity, such as market research.

Functionalism, conflict perspective, and symbolic interactionism.
Pay it forward represents functionalism, the approach that emphasizes the contributions made by each
part of society to keep it functioning smoothly, in each characters lifestyle and background. Society
uses functionalism to understand what they are doing themselves. We depend on an overall consensus
of beliefs and values, mechanical solidarity, to give our lives its value. In the dramaturgy, Arlene is a
perfect example of someone using mechanical solidarity working a degrading job also allowing
sexism to be a part of what values she has for herself. Society also is dependent on the specialization

Marriage Of Figaro Gender Roles
The Marriage of Figaro is an opera performed in 1786 in Vienna and remains another one of Mozart s
most prominent works. The opera is notable for its depiction of the increased social status of women
and its critical commentary on the aristocracy and social hierarchy of its time, as the Countess and
Susanna form a rapport that transcends class boundaries and gender roles. Mozart further raises the
issue of aristocratic power while expressing the rights of the bourgeois, as women in the play are
further responsible for challenging the social order and standing up for themselves through their
physical environment. The Marriage of Figaro is a socially critical piece by its questioning of the

with Suzanne and Figaro bickering in their half furnished room. In Act 2, the Countess is first featured
in her boudoir alone and in reflection within her space, Is there no consolation, O God of Love, in
return for my sorrows and my sighs? (39). The cabinet present in the Countess s boudoir plays an
important part in this regard, as Susanna s emergence from the closet at the end of Act 2, Are you
brandishing your sword to kill that disobedient page? (59), signifies her wielding of power as she
confronts the Count who apologizes for his foolishness. Furthermore, the outdoor setting in Act 4, the
gardens of the castle , is conducive the power that the women wield, as Susanna refers to the
environment as a charming place , where even the darkness befriends my wishes (111). Susanna and
the Countess trade clothes in the darkness, which allows them to easily conceal their identities and
carry out their plan. In using the power of the natural environment as their ally, Suzanna comes

Essay about Panic Disorder
Panic disorder is something that develops for no apparent reason. It causes repeated and unexpected
attacks of intense fear. It can last for a few minutes or even hours. The people that have this disorder
usually live in fear of having another attack. They are afraid to be alone, or to be far from medical
help. The feelings of intense fear can trigger severe physical reactions. This disorder is very real and
treatable. While it is not known what actually causes the attacks there are things that may play a role

into a panic attack. Panic attack symptoms can make one feel short of breath, dizzy, flushed,
nauseated, and cause the heart to pound. Attacks can include many of these symptoms: rapid heart
rate, sweating, chest pain, trembling, tightness in the throat, chills, hot flashes, and a sense of
impending doom. Panic attacks usually begin suddenly, without warning. While driving, at the mall,
or even when one is sound asleep panic attacks can happen at any time. While the time is varied the
symptoms usually peak within ten minutes, lasting about half an hour. Some people feel tired and
worn out after a panic attack is over. For people with this disorder one of the worst things is the
intense fear that they will have another panic attack. Some even try to avoid situations where they may
have a panic attack; because, no place feels safe some are unable to even leave home. Symptoms of
panic attack can closely resemble those of other serious health problems, such as heart attack. Seeking
medical attention as soon as possible is best. It is hard to manage panic attacks on your own. They
may even get worse without treatment. People that suffer from anxiety have a hard time with

Hip Hop Influence On American Culture
Hip hop music in today s world has grown immensely in the past 20 years, first spreading throughout
America and now to parts of Europe and Asia. However, this change was indeed a gradual one. What
began as a simple expression of dissatisfaction of inner city life has turned into a multimillion dollar

Use Of Syntax And Imagery In Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
Edgar Allan Poe, an American writer, wrote many short stories in his lifetime. One of those stories is
The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, a person murders an old man because of his eye. Poe has
also written Hop Frog, where a king s jester murders the king and his seven ministers as revenge for
striking his friend. In both stories, Poe uses narrative elements to develop a narrative point of view. He
develops a third person objective point of view in Hop Frog, and develops a first person point of view
in The Tell Tale Heart. Poe uses syntax and imagery to develop a point of view in both stories, but
uses repetition and metaphors for one story and allusions and sarcasm for the other.
Syntax and imagery help develop a point of view in both The Tell Tale Heart and Hop Frog. In The
Tell Tale Heart, the story is mostly in a first person point of view. A narrator is recounting his murder
of an old man. Since the story is in a first person point of view, readers can see the narrator s personal
thoughts and opinions. Syntax helps characterize the narrator and show his personality. For example,
the story says, So I opened it you cannot imagine how stealthily, stealthily until, at length a simple dim
ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye. In this
quotation, Poe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Tell Tale Heart, Poe uses repetition and metaphors. Poe uses repetition to help characterize the
narrator as mad. For example, the story says ...hark! louder! louder! louder! louder! The repetition also
creates suspense. Poe uses metaphors to foreshadow what will happen. For example, the story says He
had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Vultures are scavenging birds who circle
around and eat dead organisms. This connection to death foreshadows that death will happen in the

Ovarian Cancer Research Paper
Ovarian Cancer
Introduction
Ovarian cancer is a disease of an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells that are in the ovaries.
Ovaries produce eggs as well as hormones (estrogen, progestogen). Ovarian cancer is found in women
because they have two ovaries (the size of an almond) located on each side of the ovaries (Ovarian
cancer, 2000). Ovarian Cancer affects a lot of women. Statistics show that the risk of getting and
dying from ovarian cancer is one in ninety five. This cancer is the eighth most common cancer found
in women. Women have a risk of one in sixty five of getting this cancer in their lifetime. Therefore,
there is a lot of research gathered that explains: the pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, and
medical management.
Pathophysiology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This cancer is found in women and in their ovaries. During the early stages of ovarian cancer there are
typically no symptoms. However, symptoms do tend to appear. Symptoms in the early stages include:
abdominal bloating, abdominal swelling, feeling full quickly, weight loss, discomfort in the pelvis
area, changes in bowel habits such as constipation, and a frequent need to urinate (Norquist, 2007).
However, other symptoms may be present: fatigue, indigestion, heartburn, constipation, back pain,
menstrual irregulates, painful intercourse, and dermatomyositis. This cancer is very hard to identify
with these symptoms. The reason for this is because these symptoms are very vague and can point
physicians to other diagnosis. Therefore, ovarian cancer is best diagnosed in the early stages, so this

Reflection On A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
When I first learned that Convocation was going to be an award ceremony with the writer of our
summer reading book, A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, giving a speech, I did not think I would
like the event. I had only read a little of the book written by speaker, and I thought he was only going
to address the topics and situations that occurred in the novel. While I did almost nod off during the
part of the Convocation were they gave out awards, I appreciated everything else. As a writer of
poetry myself, I really enjoyed the poem written and read by the Professor of Creative Writing and at
first believed it was going to be the only highlight of the whole experience, but I was wrong.
To my surprise the best part of Convocation was listening

The Five Stages of an Interview in Counselling Essay
Stage One Relationship and structure
The interview took place in a small room. There were four members from the Interviewing and
Counselling class that were present; myself the counsellor, the client and the two others were technical
support. The client gave permission for the other two members to be present because they helped to
tape and time of the session. The setting was not very ideal, since there were two additional members
and the room was available for a limited time. Nevertheless, it worked because it was a familiar
setting where we practice our counselling most of the time. The setting encouraged comfort and
disclosure because the door of the room was closed and the client and I trusted the other members. At

However, I may have not used all the skills necessary to draw out the client s feelings and meaning in
a therapeutic way (Ivey Ivey, 2007). I used open ended and closed questions to gather more in depth
information from the client. For example, What are your expectations? and Would you be satisfied
with your grades if your parents do not pressure you? I also used encouragers such as head nods and
repetition of key words stated by the client. I also summarized her story several times to clarify with
the client that I was hearing her correctly. I felt that she was motivated to elaborate (Ivey Ivey, 2007,
pg 231). I also used some observation skills such as observing the client s verbal and non verbal
behaviours, e.g. her voice tone, eye contact and the way she was sitting at certain point in the session.
While I listened to the tape, I realized that I had empathized and reflected on the client s feelings a few
times and this was done later in the interview. Not reflecting empathy earlier led the client to think that
I did not understand her situation. Also, I imposed my values on the client by telling her that eighty
percent is good even though she clearly stated that it is really bad for her. I thought this would have
made her feel better but it did not. If I were to meet this client again for the same issue I would reflect
empathy by saying the following: Getting good grades means a lot to you. I can see

Western Influence On John Hersey s Characters
Japanese has an immense effect on those in contact with it. Japanese is a culture with divine beliefs
and enormous pride in their culture. John Hersey explores the effects that culture and environment
have on an individual s views and beliefs; a stereotypical Japanese man , an Americanized Japanese
priest, and a widowed Japanese woman all react similarly to the bombing of Hiroshima. The influence
of Japanese culture has an astounding impact on the reactions of Hersey s characters. Japan is a
country of many cultures. Japan s most renowned is the art of the samurai and currently, urbanization.
Due to the American occupation in the pacific, Japanese moved from a cultural masterpiece, to an
eastern constitutional monarchy. Which is generally effected by a western influence. The effect of
Japanese culture on Dr. Sasaki is an example of home pride and cultural pride. Dr.Sasaki has been
surrounded by Japanese culture all his life and he in turn represents stereotypical Japanese culture. Dr.

How Does Shakespeare Use Humor In Twelfth Night
Humans have been on this planet for an estimated 200,000 years and yet we are still a cruel and
immoral species that finds the pain and manipulation of others amusing. Though the Twelfth Night
written by William Shakespeare takes place 400 years ago the humor in it has not changed as people
still find humour in Sir Andrew s antics, laugh at Malvolio s imprisonment, and giggle at the
misfortune of Antonio. The reason for that is simple; it is in human nature to mock others.
One example of Sir Andrew s abuse comes from before his first line is spoken. Maria is reprimanding
Sir Toby for his drinking and bringing is a knave too woo lady Olivia Sir Toby reasons with her saying
Why, he has three thousand ducats a year. (the Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare 1.3.20) This
shows that Sir Toby does not care to reason that he has a kind heart or a fine personality but only
wealth for drinking. Because of this fact Sir Toby reveals his manipulation in the final act resulting in
humour at Sir Andrews expense. Sir Toby is shown to be one of the main contributors to Sir Andrew s
manipulation like when Sir Andrew wishes to leave on the grounds that Olivia is being ... Show more

Iran and Modernity
All states within the international system have to bow to the inevitable and embrace its inherent
dynamic force that determines the structure of their governance. Thus, no society within the
international arena can stay in voluntary solitary confinement and ward itself off modernity. Berman
defines modernism as any attempt by modern men and women to become subjects as well as objects
of modernisation, to get a grip on the modern world and make themselves at home in it
(Berman_1988_p. 5), which becomes increasingly troubled especially in relation to modernising the
societal system of the Muslim countries. One of the most salient examples demonstrating a feasible

And in Article 2, the repugnancy clause is enshrined so that no laws can be contrary to the religion of
Islam and its interpretation in the Shia faith (Video_5.3_36:18). Successful incorporation of Islamic
principles into the Constitution embodies the principles of religious reformism explicitly underpinning
the profound formative role of Islam defining the legal identity of the country. Indeed, Iranian history
offers other quintessential examples of modernisation attempts invoking the spirit of emulation. Reza
Shah follows the trend of social modernisation while striving to further reshape the structure of Iranian
society by implementing a multitude of reforms including education health, transport or industrial
sectors. Despite their relative success, Shah s enforcement of western dress code encounters stiff
resistance of citizens again supported by the clergy. If adopting slightly simplistic approach, it was his
son backed by the Western powers, who leaves the most distinctive bad taste in the Iranians mouth
after instituting his reformist policy designed to secularise the country. Mohammad Reza Shah s reign
prepared a fertile ground for the 1978 Islamist Revolution. The most critical factors contributing to it
were the Shah s reassertion of control over the country after the coup orchestrated by foreign
intelligence services in 1953 defending the vital Western oil interests. This recurrent

Summary Of Don Sabo s Pigskin, Patriarchy, And Pain
In Don Sabo s essay Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain , Sabo s central claim states that society s pressure
synthesizes males to accept and conform to pain, whether that be external or internal with an
underlying message to walk away from conformity. At the beginning of Sabo s essay, Sabo mainly
speaks about the external pain of his back, which started when he went out for football when he was
only eight years old in the interest of changing his physical appearance. While beginning at the age of
eight, Sabo played until the end of his NCAA career, which ultimately, turned out to be the result of
Sabo s spinal fusion surgery, and also was the result of Sabo being one of many men who got
swallowed up by a social system on male domination (86). The system that Sabo commonly refers to
is also known as patriarchy, which teaches kids to not only enjoy the pain, but to inflict pain too.
These teachings, according to Sabo, is the pain principal, which includes taking our anger out on other
people and limits our emotional expression (86). Another part of these teachings include taking pain,
and to take women, and take their place (87). Through all of this information, Sabo is trying to make
the inference that our Patriarchy system is corrupted and unfair. Women in this system are at the
bottom of the totem pole, and are even considered a prize for enduring the pain. This patriarchy
system doesn t only exist in sports, but it also exists in the military, business world, and in the

What Is The Thesis Of Thomas Paine The Crisis No 1
Originally from Britain, Thomas Paine sailed to the now known United States and soon became a
journalist in favor for the colonial revolution. He wrote The Crisis No. 1 where with his use of
aphorisms and emotional appeals inspired the colonial soldiers to fight for their freedom. Thomas
Paine s writing was read to General Washington s troops before crossing the Delaware River to
motivate them and bolster both the citizens and soldiers morale.
First, It matter not where you live, or what rank of life you hold, the evil or the blessing will reach you
all. With this sentence Paine is informing the audience that what he is about to announce isn t only for
the rich, isn t only for the poor, or the middle class, but it is for the society as ... Show more content on

The message that he wants to use to persuade the audience is that they won t be fighting this war for
wealth or social status; instead they will be fighting so that the wealthy and the poor no longer have to
be under the rule of Great Britain.
Paine also associates the battle to being a good parent. He claims that when the war is fought and the
heart that feels not now is dead then their children will then curse their fathers by feeling shame that
their fathers were too much of a coward to fight for themselves and most importantly their children.
He aims at putting pressure to the soldiers saying that their children would most be ashamed that their
father has [shrunk] back at a time when a little might have saved the whole and made them happy,
causing the audience to feel guilt if they do not proceed into the battle with all their force.
In conclusion, Thomas Paine uses aphorisms, emotional appeals, and guilt to persuade the soldiers to
go into battle and give it their best because they will be fighting for the country. The soldiers can also
conclude that Thomas Paine thinks that if they do not fight this battle then it will be a great shame
upon him that even his children will dishonor

The Peasants Of Manorial Villages Vs. 1800s
Peasants in Manorial Villages vs. Townspeople? Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and 1300
A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in these two
distinct types of communities was the freedom, rights of the people and advancements. In the manorial
villages you had lords who owned large portions of land, vassals who entered into a military
obligation with the lords in exchange for land and protection, and serfs who were a class of people that
worked their lord s land as half slave, half freeman. Vassals were more of an employee and the serfs
was little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s land. The serfs could not leave or do
anything without the lord s permission and most of the time they had to pay fees to be granted the
permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople elected their officials, had freedom to choose
a career, move about where they liked, and could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople were in
fact free, were not lorded over and watched all the time. As for the manorial villages, the lord had all
the power and had absolute control oved all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. In manorial
villages the lords of the land would have vassals and serfs. A vassal was a voluntary obligation to be
taken care of by the lord. Although once one became a vassal this obligation would follow through
from one generation to the next. Serfs on the other hand were people

Essay about The Football Player Duane Hanson
What force is so strong that it has the power to bring even the strongest man to his knees? What force
plagues the workforce at all hours of the day? What force prevents continuous work at all times of the
day, making us bow to the night as if to say We are not strong enough ? That force is exhaustion, the
most terrible and rarely conquerable force on earth. As I stood staring at such a life like sculpture in
the confines of a briskly chilly art museum corridor, I could only imagine the amount of exhausted
nights the sculptor had to endure to create his extremely exhausted masterpiece. The sculptor Duane

The player shown holds the cup loosely with two fingers. Parallel to the physical state exemplified in
The Football Player , I located a similarly themed group of sculptures entitled Korean War Veterans by
Frank Gaylord on Artstor.org. The group of large sculptures is made up of eight life size soldiers of the
Korean war era. Dressed in rain parkas and grim faces while holding their weapons, the soldiers show
a generally exhausted state, most likely from their constant battles. One soldier is pictured giving the
lower ranking soldiers orders in their freeze frame of war, with the others not even acknowledging
their commands with eye contact, instead staring straight ahead or into space. The soldiers all have
quite exhausted expressions and mannerisms, such as squinting eyes and slouched postures, which
help to magnify their tired states. The grey color of the unpainted stone also helps to darken the tone
of the piece. The parallels in the expressions of the various warriors shown in the two pieces on the
football field and on the battlefield brought up an intriguing idea to me. How does the body and mind
respond to the extreme levels of exhaustion caused by their respected stressful situations? How does a
human being survive in such an extreme environment without driving oneself over the edge?

that some characteristics of an epic hero would include courage, devotion, loyal and justice. But never
do we touch on intelligence. Is it a trait amongst all hero s? No, however two stand out due to their

Landlords were trying to find the problem to the deaths. Landlords knew exactly what to do. They

Unemployment was the view of the workers due to soldiers coming home from the Napoleonic Wars
and more people were dying from disease. As the farmlands of Ireland were being cleaned out, over
the period of time, emigration increased at an excessive rate. Many Irish residents left for America and
other English speaking countries. During the famine, nearly one million people sought a new and

hunger and other causes. While Britain provided much relief for Ireland s starving population, many
Irish criticized Britain s delayed response and further blamed centuries of British political oppression
to underline the causes of the famine. As depression continued in Ireland, two million more people left

It was a Friday, I hopped off the bus and sprinted home as fast as I could to pack my clothes in my
suitcase. I regretted procrastinating the night before, because my mom would be home any minute to
leave for Oklahoma. I grabbed my suitcase and flung it carelessly on my bed. I was so excited for my

I left a shirt in the laundry room. I stepped down from my bed and felt something cut through my toe

Immediately I knew what happened. With my quick thinking, I grabbed my cell phone and I hopped
into the bathroom. Trying my best not to get blood on the clean carpet. I sat on the edge of the bathtub
and turned on the water. While the water washed the fresh blood, I called my dad on my phone. I
heard his thunderous footsteps coming down the hallway. He swung open the door and wrapped my
foot in a towel.

but at the same time there was an ominous silence to it. I sat alone with my thoughts until they were
broken by the sound of my name. They helped me inside and looked at my foot once more. Instantly
they decided that I would need stitches. That was what I figured from the very beginning, but still
dreaded the idea. Right before they began the stitches they looked once more and realized the cut
wasn t deep enough for something as drastic as stitches. They simply decided to use skin glue instead.
They glued the skin back together with much less pain and effort that stitches could have caused. I
walked out with my cautiously trying not to break the glue because I never wanted to walk back into

The Effects Of Community On Parenting Practices
Running head: EFFECTS OF COMMUNITY ON PARENTING Sanchez | 2
The Effects of Community on Parenting Practices
Christina Sanchez
November 6th 2016
The definition of a community can vary by its culture and experiences. It is those differences that are
the framework for what any given community regards as normal and appropriate when it pertains to
parenting practices. These norms set the standards as to when and how parents should seek help from
others as well. Parenting practices are normally looked at in relation to a particular culture; this focus
excludes community input and effect on the expectations and behaviors of parents. For this reason, the
focus of this paper will be the effect of community, not culture, on parenting practices. The
community can become the standard reference for a parent, and practices may be accepted without
question even if they do not match that of the broader society. Variations that exist here in the
Southwest, include Native and non Native parenting practices, Hispanic influences, and socio
economic factors. For Native American families in the Southwest, it is important to also note that their
style of shared living impacts their parenting practices. For instance, children may live with other
family members such as grandparents, and move routinely from family member to family member as
they are growing up. The burden of parenting or raising children in a traditional Native American
family belongs to the

Billy Graham Accomplishments
Dr. Billy Graham told William McKay during an interview that My only concern is that my image on
screen would eclipse the image of Jesus. I am at an age where I know that I will be standing before my
Savior soon, and I don t want anything to disappoint him. (McKay, p. 1) Billy Graham s goal through
life was for others to see Jesus through him and in him so that when he saw his Savior, He would be
proud of him. Billy Graham is remembered as a great evangelist because his early life helped prepare

He was the oldest of four children so he would have to get up at 4 A.M. to milk the cows, feed the
chickens, goats and cats and often smelled like the farm the rest of the day. His parents were
Calvinists and never dreamed that he would be a preacher. However, Mordecai Ham, a traveling
evangelist, came through and Billy heard him preach and accepted Christ at the age of 16 and he was
never the same. He started preaching to the animals on the farm, his family and kids at school. He
soon became known as Preacher boy and weird Billy (Wellman, p. 22) but he did not mind. Billy
knew to follow God he would have to be different. After he graduated high school, he began selling
Fuller Brushes door to door to make some money. Albert McMakin, Billy s friend, told him You re
selling more brushes than I am, Billy. (Wellman, p. 36) He knew how to talk anyone into needing a
new brush. Billy returned home in the fall to attend Bob Jones University to learn more about
preaching. However, he felt like a prisoner there and transferred to Florida Bible Institute. When Billy

No Other Place Like Home
Home is more than just four walls; it is a place and feeling that surrounds people with security and
comfort. It is culture, religion and traditions. Homeland is a place one can call home, whether it is a
person s native land or a place where anyone can feel safe, happy and welcome. In an immigrant s
perspective, on the other hand, they have a hard time calling home home. Laviera a famous Nuyorican
poet, decribed his battle in the poem NUyorican. He points out the idea that immigrants migrate
elsewhere to find economic stability and later return to their hometown and encounter feelings of
isolation and exclusion. Laveira states, I fight for you, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Black Men In Public Spaces Summary
Black men and public spaces is an excellent article it has many similarities to the world today. This
story has several points that I agree with I have a strong connection with the story. I assume his
choice, this new title for the female readers to have more insight on the problems that a black man go
through in the real world. I like how Staples used different scenarios to get the readers to have an
emotional connection. So, that they will be able visualize and understand what he is going through.
This story shows that black men still get judged due to their race and gender. I don t like how he
acquired to change just to satisfy the needs of others. Till this day black men in society are always
going to get judge by the cause of their skin color. It shouldn t be that way in the world, but that s how
things are. They always must wonder about rather they re going to get arrested for just roaming the
streets at night or entering a jewelry store. Therefore, people are always categorizing men as lower
class men, they don t think that they can be successful in life. ... Show more content on

The problem is that people quickly start to stereotype black men and think that every man is up to no
good. But people don t see it that way they just quick to go spread the word around. They should
consider taking more time in understanding how black men are. There are several black men today
that can be the kindest person in the world but, nobody will never see it. They always judge you base
on your race and gender. How come black men are always the ones to get judged but not women? I
don t think that s right. This article not only have me emotionally connected but it s brings a
requirement for a change to be made in today s world. People need to stop stereotyping black men
based on what they heard or seen. If they can t state facts, then there is so need for all the unnecessary

  • 2. Human Papilloma Virus ( Hpv ) Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is currently thought to be the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the United States with roughly 79 million Americans currently affected (CDC,2015). There are over 120 identified types of HPV (CDC, pink book); most of which infect the cutaneous epithelium and cause common skin warts. Approximately 40 types of HPV infect the mucosal epithelium and are categorized according to their epidemiological association with cervical cancer: low risk type is associated with non oncogenic types and cause benign or low grad cervical cell abnormalities, genital warts and laryngeal papillomas. High Risk Types can cause low grade cervical cell abnormalities, high grade cervical cell abnormalities or anogenital cancers less common than cervical cancer, such as cancer of the vulva, vagina, penis and anus. The purpose of this paper is to explore and discuss differences in the vaginal microbiome and metabolome of women who have been classified as HPV positive vs women who have been classified as HPV negative. These differences are based upon a preliminary analysis which showed pathway enrichment of lipids, sphingolipids and estrogen when comparing women that were HPV positive with women that were HPV negative. This paper is exploratory in nature; as these topics hold great value for the rest of my dissertation, I briefly explored the following topics of interest in order to gain further insight: HPV, the vaginal microbiome, the life cycle of HPV, HPV ... • 3. Summer Youth Leadership Scholarship Essay Being a leader is much more than just a position. During my first year in the Summer Youth Leadership Program (Summer Youth for short), I got a glimpse of what it felt to be a responsible young adult, amicable colleague, and a good friend. I relished my time at the Summer Youth Leadership Program. It influenced my life in so many ways: mentally, emotionally, and physically. Therefore, this past 2017 summer, I decided to reapply and learn more things throughout my summer. Because I was an alumnus, I knew I was going to receive more responsibility, higher standards, and new situations than 2016 and I deiced to go through with the program. I told myself that I would be resilient and persevere through it. Frankly, being a Summer Youth returner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pentheus Death In Euripides The Bacchae sexual love, is actually the god he says he is. This is Pentheus demise. Dionysus chooses to castigate the willful young king by driving the women of the city into a bloodthirsty turmoil, including Pentheus own mother. In an intense and violent scene, she leads the other women in ripping him limb from limb, too deranged to see that it is her own son being killed. However, the story that leads up to this is full of encounters that show where Pentheus went wrong. To avoid a tragic demise according to Euripides, one must know their own limits and be aware of the finiteness of human life, on top of obeying the gods. Pentheus did none of these. Euripides uses The Bacchae as a receptacle to bring wisdom to people who do not want to meet the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether you believe in God or gods, fate, karma, or even just the forces of nature, you are imprudent to not acknowledge that there are powers in this world greater than you. If one begins to believe that they are above the influence of these forces, they may be seduced into ignoring the reality of their own human limitations. We are unlikely to come across a mortal embodiment of a god, yet Euripides begs us to consider the frailty of our own mortality. It does not to do to dwell on whatever human power we may consider important. Even Teiresias begs Pentheus to not be so certain that power is what matters in the life of a man (lines 333 334). It does not do to swell on the now we must be wise in our thinking and consider the short time we may have left. We must have the wisdom to recognize that we do not dictate how long our time is on earth, that our lives are fleeting at best, and that whatever we want to accomplish in our lives must be done with our own impending finality in ... • 5. Differences And Similarities Between Hinduism And... The world is made up of different religions that consist of different beliefs and different ways of worshipping those beliefs. It is one s opinion to place judgment on whether a certain type of religion is right or wrong . Essentially, religious beliefs boil down to the connection one feels within oneself. Whether that connection can be explained by nature or spiritual beings, is determined by the beliefs a person lives by. The most common religions include Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Here, we will discuss the differences and similarities between Hinduism and Christianity. These two religions are the most alike out of the five previously mentioned religions. Hinduism is the major religion of India, and it unites the worshipping of many gods while believing in a single divine reality. Hinduism can be thought of as an umbrella of many beliefs. The Hinduism religion believes in many gods, each one having a specific purpose. Many of them are mentioned in the Vedas, which contains the ancient scriptures of India. The Vedas are the earliest sacred books of Hinduism, and its name translates to knowledge or sacred lore . It is said that the Vedas were revealed to holy men of the distant past, who transmitted them to later generations. Similar to the Bible, the Vedas were originally preserved in oral form then eventually written down. The Vedic period is estimated to date back to about 2000 to 500 BCE. During this period is when a vast amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Citizen Kane Analysis Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created today. In many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each one of us who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kane owes a great deal to Orson Welles because of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which without a doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its time because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema forever. It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this technique in several occasions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Persuasive Speech On Skin Cancer Exposure to tanning beds before the age of 30 increases melanoma risk by 75 percent. This is a quote on an advertisement in Allure magazine. Tanning beds cause skin to age prematurely. It causes the skin to lose its elasticity and increases skin cancer. Tans are caused by harmful UV radiation from the sun or tanning lamps, and those who have one, have sustained skin cell damage. A person with a hereditary risk of melanoma has a greatly increased risk of developing melanoma during his or her lifetime. There is also an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in families with familial melanoma, but that is rare. Neutrogena published this ad in Allure magazine, July 2015. Their intentions to persuade on the damages of tanning beds and presenting their products to reverse damage previously done were effective. Neutrogena uses Hayden Panettiere, a well known actress, for the face of their advertisement. It is a very up close image of her face with an all white background. It shows her skin having a soft glow and looking healthy. Her eyes are shining and she appears to be happy. She is wearing a white tank top, making her skin glow brighter. Her hair is softly flowing and golden. Hayden s skin looks completely flawless. Seeing as how all girls long for flawless looking skin, the publishers did a wonderful job of picking the perfect face for their advertisement. • 8. Modern Juvenile Justice System Today, the debate over the development and change of the modern juvenile justice system raises the problem of its adaptation to the specific environment, where the juvenile justice system is implemented. To put it more precisely, the juvenile justice system is traditionally different from the adult justice system. However, today, the youth tends to commit serious crimes, which raise the public criticism in relation to the modern juvenile justice system because the punishment of juveniles is considered by average citizens irrelevant to the crime they commit. In such a case, violent crimes committed by juveniles provoke a particularly severe criticism of the modern juvenile justice system. However, the public is often unaware of the substantial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is meant here is the fact that, unlike adult offenders, juveniles have larger options in this regard. At this point, it is possible to refer to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 (JJDPA), which resulted in dramatic changes mandating the removal of juveniles from adult jails and police lock ups, requiring a parallel system of juvenile detention centers for those who needed to be held securely, and forbidding the secure confinement of status offenders and children in need of supervision (Hayward, 2004). In such a way, the practice of using juvenile detention centers was rejected and replaced by other programs, which introduced less restrictive measures on the freedom of juvenile offenders and put them into less strict conditions. In this respect, it is possible to distinguish three major pre adjudication programs juvenile offenders may be involved in, including shelters, holdover programs, and home detention. First, shelters are widely used and involve the community assistance to juvenile offenders detention. In terms of this program, some communities have non secure, temporary residential facilities intended for children removed from their homes in the initial stages of child protective services investigations or for children who may be picked up by police as status offenders (Reiman, 2006). As for holdover programs, they also aim at securing the position of juveniles. Holdover program requires a room (this might be located in a police station or sheriff s department, or some other public facility) and someone (either a volunteer or part time employee) who can provide continuous supervision of a youth for a few hours or overnight pending transportation (Reiman, 2006). Finally, the home detention is another program that may be applied in terms of the pre adjudication. In actuality, the home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Innovations In The Byzantine Empire The Byzantine Empire strengthened through legal innovations such as the creation of the Code of Justinian. The code was a collection up many edicts and rulings regarding law by previous emperors, which unified and organized the empire. Prior to the code, the Byzantine Empire s laws were multitudinous and very confusing. Furthermore, military innovations saved the capital from the Arabs who laid a major siege. A napalm like weapon called Greek fire was used to destroy Arab ships at the coasts. This new weapon contained chemicals that ignited as it touched water. It helped drive back the Arab naval forces. Also, the empire expanded religious innovations through the building of new churches such as the Hagia Sophia. It was an achievement for Christianity and engineering. No other building in the world at the time could support a dome so large. However, it later became a mosque when the Ottoman Turks conquered the Byzantine Empire. Society uses functionalism to understand what they are doing themselves. We depend on an overall consensus of beliefs and values, mechanical solidarity, to give our lives its value. The opera is notable for its depiction of the increased social status of women and its critical commentary on the aristocracy and social hierarchy of its time, as the Countess and Susanna form a rapport that transcends class boundaries and gender roles. Mozart further raises the issue of aristocratic power while expressing the rights of the bourgeois, as women in the play are further responsible for challenging the social order and standing up for themselves through their physical environment. We struggle with whether or not we satisfy those desires, and feel guilty, or embrace what may be facets of our true identity. In The Strength of God, by Sherwood Anderson, Reverend Curtis Hartman fights lust and the temptation of adultery when he spots a beautiful woman, Kate Swift, through his office window in her apartment. • 20. Use Of Syntax And Imagery In Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart Edgar Allan Poe, an American writer, wrote many short stories in his lifetime. One of those stories is The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, a person murders an old man because of his eye. Poe has also written Hop Frog, where a king s jester murders the king and his seven ministers as revenge for striking his friend. In both stories, Poe uses narrative elements to develop a narrative point of view. He develops a third person objective point of view in Hop Frog, and develops a first person point of view in The Tell Tale Heart. Poe uses syntax and imagery to develop a point of view in both stories, but uses repetition and metaphors for one story and allusions and sarcasm for the other. Syntax and imagery help develop a point of view in both The Tell Tale Heart and Hop Frog. In The Tell Tale Heart, the story is mostly in a first person point of view. A narrator is recounting his murder of an old man. Since the story is in a first person point of view, readers can see the narrator s personal thoughts and opinions. Syntax helps characterize the narrator and show his personality. Symptoms in the early stages include: abdominal bloating, abdominal swelling, feeling full quickly, weight loss, discomfort in the pelvis area, changes in bowel habits such as constipation, and a frequent need to urinate (Norquist, 2007). However, other symptoms may be present: fatigue, indigestion, heartburn, constipation, back pain, menstrual irregulates, painful intercourse, and dermatomyositis. This cancer is very hard to identify with these symptoms. The reason for this is because these symptoms are very vague and can point physicians to other diagnosis. Therefore, ovarian cancer is best diagnosed in the early stages, so this will not occur. Ovaries are located deep in the abdominal cavity, so it is very hard to feel a tumor. Unfortunate, there is no diagnostic screening for ovarian cancer, so reporting any symptoms to a doctor is very necessary. A doctor may require a pelvic exam if any symptoms are present. A pelvic exam will allow the doctor to observe an abnormality. Small ovarian tumors are very hard to find because they are small and press against the bladder and rectum. How Does Shakespeare Use Humor In Twelfth Night Humans have been on this planet for an estimated 200,000 years and yet we are still a cruel and immoral species that finds the pain and manipulation of others amusing. Though the Twelfth Night written by William Shakespeare takes place 400 years ago the humor in it has not changed as people still find humour in Sir Andrew s antics, laugh at Malvolio s imprisonment, and giggle at the misfortune of Antonio. The reason for that is simple; it is in human nature to mock others. One example of Sir Andrew s abuse comes from before his first line is spoken. Maria is reprimanding Sir Toby for his drinking and bringing is a knave too woo lady Olivia Sir Toby reasons with her saying Why, he has three thousand ducats a year. Summary Of Don Sabo s Pigskin, Patriarchy, And Pain In Don Sabo s essay Pigskin, Patriarchy, and Pain , Sabo s central claim states that society s pressure synthesizes males to accept and conform to pain, whether that be external or internal with an underlying message to walk away from conformity. At the beginning of Sabo s essay, Sabo mainly speaks about the external pain of his back, which started when he went out for football when he was only eight years old in the interest of changing his physical appearance. While beginning at the age of eight, Sabo played until the end of his NCAA career, which ultimately, turned out to be the result of Sabo s spinal fusion surgery, and also was the result of Sabo being one of many men who got swallowed up by a social system on male domination (86). The system that Sabo commonly refers to is also known as patriarchy, which teaches kids to not only enjoy the pain, but to inflict pain too. These teachings, according to Sabo, is the pain principal, which includes taking our anger out on other people and limits our emotional expression (86). Another part of these teachings include taking pain, and to take women, and take their place (87). Through all of this information, Sabo is trying to make the inference that our Patriarchy system is corrupted and unfair. Life in the high middle ages, between 1000 and 1300 A.D., had two kinds of communities, manorial villages and towns. The major difference in these two distinct types of communities was the freedom, rights of the people and advancements. In the manorial villages you had lords who owned large portions of land, vassals who entered into a military obligation with the lords in exchange for land and protection, and serfs who were a class of people that worked their lord s land as half slave, half freeman. Vassals were more of an employee and the serfs was little more than a slave because they were bound to the lord s land. The serfs could not leave or do anything without the lord s permission and most of the time they had to pay fees to be granted the permissions they requested. In contrast the townspeople elected their officials, had freedom to choose a career, move about where they liked, and could acquire training and schooling. Townspeople were in fact free, were not lorded over and watched all the time. As for the manorial villages, the lord had all the power and had absolute control oved all the actions and work of the vassals and serfs. They started by getting an overview of what was already being done to assess pain. Only 60% of patients (n=923) were evaluated by a nurse using an accepted pain scale during their visit. Surprised by the lack of pain assessment, they began the protocol in a community hospital. The beginning results were lower than most people want to see; only one third of the patients who had gone to the emergency room for pain related reasons got treated. During the famine, nearly one million people sought a new and richer life in the United States. Ship owners crowded hundreds of Irish onto boats, later labeled coffin ships (Ruddy 43). These ships reached port only after losing a third of their passengers to disease, hunger and other causes. While Britain provided much relief for Ireland s starving population, many Irish criticized Britain s delayed response and further blamed centuries of British political oppression to underline the causes of the famine.
