Ghetto Life Under the Nazis
The term ghettos was first used in relation to Jews in the year 1516 when the Venetian government
designated a specified living area for its Jewish population. During World War II, they were
established by the Nazis to isolate and control the Jews as a first step in their eventual annihilation (
Ghettos ). Throughout the War, the Nazis established over 400 ghettos in Eastern Europe and Russia
for this purpose. The Nazi ghetto overseers appointed Jewish councils, called the Judenrat, to maintain
order in the ghettos, distribute food rations and to assist the Nazis with deportations to the
concentration and death camps (Glazer). Daily life in the ghettos was very challenging for the Jews,
and they endured extreme physical hardships from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Lodz ghetto, people suffered similarly. Blanka Rothschild recalled that she managed to acquire
a single glove in the ghetto. She passed her glove around to her friends and family, each wearing it for
a few minutes, so that the numbness in their hand would subside ( Oral History ). Emmanuel
Ringelbaum, a Warsaw ghetto inhabitant who recorded daily occurrences and conditions of the ghetto,
explained that cold and shivering Jews felt helpless as they watched others suffer from the cold. He
lamented that the most fearful sight ... [was] that of freezing children, [standing] dumbly weeping in
the street with bare feet, bare knees and torn clothing. (Dawidowicz 209)
The cramped conditions, meager food rations and general lack of cleanliness caused rampant disease
throughout the ghettos. Persistent hunger, intense labor, and constant fear of deportation caused an
inflated number of heart and circulatory system diseases among the ghetto Jews. The ghettos lacked
adequate amounts of medicine to treat the thousands of Jews suffering from typhus, dysentery,
tuberculosis, diphtheria, scarlet fever, trachoma, meningitis, and other diseases, and many of them
perished as a result. In the Lodz ghetto alone, 7,269 people died from tuberculosis (Dobroszycki). In
the Warsaw ghetto, it was estimated that 100,000 Jews contracted typhus in the first 18 months of the
ghetto s existence.

Florida International University is an amazing school but affording it is not easy, especially due to my
circumstances. My mother is a single mother of four children, me being the oldest, each child five to
seven years apart. She is a certified nursing assistant and only has some college completed. My mom

the United States, but in Haiti. After my aunt there is not much family that lives in the United States,

Market Structure: The coffee industry is an extremely competitive one. However, the market structure
of the coffee industry and specifically the coffee bean industry that provides the raw materials for
Yuban could be described as an oligopoly. The specific characteristics of this oligopoly are, however,
more reminiscent of a cartel because a relatively small number of suppliers control the supply and
distribution of coffee beans globally (Igami, 2011). Consequently, Yuban, which is a brand within the
Kraft Foods umbrella, has limited choice in selecting its supplies. The coffee bean industry was
controlled officially through a cartel structure until 1989 under the International Coffee Agreement or
ICA but thereafter market competition with new entrants such as Vietnam eroded the control of this
official cartel organization (Igami, 2011). Yet, because coffee bean production is largely limited to
certain geographic regions, these countries governments express a great deal of control over which
entities control production and distribution.
Competitive Barriers: There are a number of significant competitive barriers within the coffee bean
and coffee grind industry. While virtually any firm can purchase the raw materials or even the finished
product in the form of ground coffee, the packaging and distribution of the product is a much more
sophisticated endeavor. The most significant

The Buddha Stands On The Crown Of The Head With A Round...
This Buddha has a bun shaped fleshy protuberance on the crown of the head with a round and plump
face, which has been severely weathered, leaving half of a halo behind the head. However, a sense of
solemn and compassionate can still be perceived from the downward gazing eyes and the facial
expression. The Buddha wears a full shoulder kasaya with compact and specified drapery that forms
into a U shape along the axis of the body. The left hand naturally drops to hold a piece of the clothes
yet the right forearm is fragmented. The Buddha stands on a rising lotus throne which is set on a
Sumeru throne. This artifact was excavated at Ruins of the Ancient Andier City, which is a inner
desert that locates 27 km southeast of Andier Ranch (安迪尔牧场) in Minfeng County, Hetian Region,
Xinjiang. Originally built in Han dynasty, the city was gradually abandoned during 11th century AD,
remaining to be an important site of remnants of the south Silk Road (丝绸之路) of Han and Tang
dynasties.
This artifact is severely damaged, leaving only part of the head and chest remain. The face of the
Buddha appears to be relatively round, using ink to draw the eyebrows and to emphasize the already
carved on eyelids. The upper eyelids are curvy while the lower ones are relatively flat. With plump
alae of the nose, small lips and dimples on the edge of the mouth, the figure is depicted to be smiling.
Although the neck is broken, the piece left in front of the chest indicates the kasayaworn by the

Doctors may let older women know who are pregnant or who are expecting to get pregnant (generally

in the best condition and because their bodies may have a harder time carrying or providing the best

Knowing that your child has a birth defect or an abnormality can make the delivery very emotional.
An older woman trying to deliver a baby may also have more difficulty with the delivery depending
on how healthy and in shape she is. That may also affect the labor process as well and how fast it will
go. Although, the most common birth defect in children with mothers of an advanced maternal age is
Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs from a chromosomal defect. The mother must also be
motivated to keep herself healthy in good shape during and before the pregnancy (if planning to get
pregnant). The mother must want to maintain a good health status in order to make the pregnancy a
successful one, no matter the age. She must follow all the doctor s orders and go to her regular check
ups as needed. Usually, by not following the doctor s orders is where abnormalities and defects can
occur. The doctors make the mother aware of the consequences that can happen when they don t do
what is asked of them during the pregnancy and what can happen if they do the complete opposite.
The complete opposite would be eating bad, not caring about their health status at all, not drinking
enough water or drinking an excessive amount of sugary or alcoholic beverages, smoking, using
drugs, not taking the pre natal vitamins, and not exercising as much as they could be. All of these
things can result in

Ethical Dilemmas Of Earthquake
There are about 10,000 earthquakes in southern California every year (USDS). I would think that it
would take a tremendous amount of time to track every earthquake. John, a prestigious seismologist,
has just discovered an earthquake that has the potential to cause a lot of damage to an area in southern
California. He has developed a technique that detects earthquakes that is 80% accurate. This technique
has told him this earthquake has a magnitude of 7.3. This technique has also told him that this
earthquake is bound to hit one of four fault lines. If the earthquake hits the san Andreas fault line there
is a chance for significant damage, if it hits one of the other three, there will not be major damage.
John has an ethical dilemma. He doesn t know if he should announce his findings. Does he tell
everyone so that they are prepared for the earthquake? Does he wait it out to see what happens? I can
see why John is having a hard time. If he announces his research and the earthquake doesn t happen
then he is labeled as a fraud. If he doesn t announce his research and there is significant damage from
this earthquake then he will feel terrible because he had the chance to warn everyone who lives in the
affected area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his choices is he can tell the research director about his findings so then he can decide the best
route to take in this situation. Another choice is he can tell the media so everyone is informed and can
decide what they feel the best route to take. Another choice is he can keep his research to himself and
see what happens when the earthquake hits. John may want to keep his research to himself with the
fear of having incorrect information. One more option John can is he can confide in a friend to
rationalize his thinking to see if they are thinking the same thing. I think that john is in a sticky

The Triads are a family run organized crime gang in China. Triads are sometimes referred to as the

pirating, minibus concessions, and computer software (Hays, 2010). The Triads have a signature
instrument of torture, punishment and execution, the kitchen meat cleaver. Triad victims bodies are
often found horribly mutilated, severed limbs can be used as a warning. In 1984 the leaders of the

Summary In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
The Guilty Maloney
Time stands still for the defendant and her dead husband, but was she insane? Lamb to the Slaughter, a
short story written by Roald Dahl. The story places the reader in a scenario where Mary Maloney kills
her husband after he wishes to have a divorce. She does this with a frozen leg of lamb that she was
going to prepare for dinner. Mary is either guilty of murder or innocent due to insanity, supported by
evidence from the story. Mary should be deemed guilty and responsible for the murder of her husband
Patrick because she contained enough sanity to formulate a plan to escape police persecution.
First, Mary was able to acknowledge that she had killed Patrick. At the time of the murder she was
pregnant with a child, and she had contemplated what the police would do when the baby was born.
She began thinking very fast. As the wife of a detective, she knew what the punishment would be.
(Dahl 382) The character Mary was aware of the punishment and could deduce that there would be
consequences. The legal insanity defense is used properly when the defendant is unaware that they
committed the crime or what they had done was wrong or illegal. On the other hand, what about the
baby? What were the laws about murderers with unborn children? (Dahl 382) Mary worried about
what the future of her baby would be, a trait not found is most diagnosed with a mental illness. A

A Comparison Between Fitzgerald s Great Gatsby and...
Fitzgerald s Great Gatsby and Veblen s The Theory of the Leisure Class
The American Dream is real; Americans are able to rise out of poverty and into leisurely lifestyles
with a bit of luck and a lot of hard work. Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Thorstein Veblen s The
Theory of the Leisure Class both address issues of status and wealth that arise from peoples pursuits of
the American Dream. But the authors differ in their beliefs about the nature and motives of peoples
pursuits of wealth. To begin with, Fitzgerald disagrees with Veblen s notion of pecuniary emulation as
being intrinsic behavior (a goal in and of itself). He does this by conveying that Gatsby s flamboyant
lifestyle is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fitzgerald s explanation of peoples pursuits of wealth, however, attributes these pursuits not to an
internal need for contentment but to external, tangible goals. Gatsby throws extravagant parties in the
hopes that he ll be able to see Daisy and not for his own enjoyment or self respect . In fact, Fitzgerald
takes great pains to convey that Gatsby does not enjoy his parties Gatsby is often alone on the marble
steps or lamenting about [Daisy] not having a good time (p116). His conspicuous consumption is not
motivated by his need for invidious distinction but by an external, tangible goal he wants Daisy to
reenter his life and fall in love with him again. Fitzgerald echoes the ideas of Josiah Strong, who wrote
of pursuits in life that need to precede the self seeking (p164, Our Country) pursuit of money. While
Strong most values spiritual quickening (p165), Fitzgerald seems to value commitment to one s ideals
(requited love in Gatsby s case). Fitzgerald further disagrees with Veblen s belief that the desire for
invidious distinction is a pervasive trait that shapes [one s] scheme of life (p33) through a twist in the
Great Gatsby s plot. After Gatsby realizes that Daisy is not pleased by his parties or by his
extravagance, he

The Three Types Of Friends
A unusual sense of humor, great advice, and honesty are all things that come to mind when you think
about a friend. Friends are important to have because they are a backbone when things get tough in
life and are always there to love and support. However, anyone who has spent time with friends will
notice that each one has a special personality with respect to their honesty, loyalty, and care. Basically,
friend types can be fallen into four groups; acquaintances, school or activity friends, and best friends.
The first type of friend is an acquaintance. A acquaintance is someone you know, but you only have a
minor level of relationship with. You probably do not have any intimacy with them aside from sharing

Although, conflicts such as the American Civil war and the Revolutionary war do interest me, my
main interest lies within conflicts in the 20th century. I have watched many documentaries featuring
first hand accounts of military personnel and their experience in combat. In school and out of school,
the one war that comes up the most is WW2. I know about how Germany was the main problem in
ww2 and also the persecution of Jews, gypsies, gays, and many other people. But I didn t realize until
after starting this project, that I had never learned a lot about ww1. This book not only taught me of
some factors leading up to the war, but it also gave me an interest of ww1. One thing I learned was
that William the II of Germany did not like Edward the VII of England because he had denied any
alliances or treaties between Negland and Germany. Instead, Edward formed an alliance with France. I
learned this on page two when William says that he is happy that Edward it dead. Not everything
about this book was good in my opinion. Most books that I read are fictional/fantasy books. Therefore,
this book wasn t necessarily a walk in the park for me. I had a very difficult time following the story

and didn t really follow the chronological order of events in history. For example, in the beginning it

FADE IN:
EXT. FIELD DAY
From the distance, a BEE is quickly approaching the screen until it flies past.
Footsteps soon follow as the sound of the BEE fades, springy toy antennas flying across the bottom of
the screen as the footsteps fade away.
We then see the GIRL chasing the BEE over a hill, of which there are many, as they are on their way
to the yellow HONEYCOMB on the horizon.

GIRL (V.O)
I m bringing home a baby bumblebee
There is silence as she bites into the fruit a second time and instead of it s previous white juices, an
oozing black comes out instead causing the GIRL to drop the fruit.
The fruit falls down into the pit below the bridge. The GIRL, horrified, holds her clean hand to her
mouth as she looks in tears at the one covered in the black ooze.
As the GIRL looks at her hand, white smoke begins to build up around her.
BUG KILLER (V.O)

Looking up, she sees a man in a white hazmat suit and a gasmask. The BUG KILLER is spraying the
bushes with fruit on them in front of him and the GIRL moves to stop him.

However, she hears a faint buzzing in the distance. Worried for the BEE, she spots him failing to fly.

Alternative to Animal Testing Essay
Alternatives to Animal Testing
Animal testing has become a controversial issue among many people in the world today. Some of
these people involved in this controversial debate believe that animal testing is unethical and should
be replaced by other methods. The other group of people in this debate believe that animal testing is
necessary in order to research new products that cannot be tested on humans. Traditional animal
testing forces animals to undergo numerous experiments for different forms of research. Medical,
cosmetic, and many other types of research experiments use animals to provide the results on how the
new product may affect humans. There are many people that support the use of alternative methods to
animal research and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if the chemical is shown promising for helping the animals it does not automatically mean that it
would be safe for humans.
Using animals for research is not reliable in predicting the outcome of new chemicals on the human
body system. According to American Anti Vivisection Society, Nine out of ten drugs that appear
promising in animals studies go on to fail in human clinical trials. That indicates that almost ninety
percent of traditional animal experiments fail in human trials. Although humans are similar to animals,
they still do not have the exact genetic make up as animals. American Anti Vivisection Society claims
that, Even the same species have similar differences that can be found among different genders,
breeds, ages and weight ranges, and ethnic backgrounds. For example, humans react to new products
differently because nobody is genetically the same. Some people experience the therapeutic effect of a
drug and then others may have an allergic reaction to the drug. Even in the human species researchers
see that not all drugs or products produce the same ideal results that are expected. If there were such
wide variations of results between the same species why would it be logical to test products intended
for human use on animals? This is a question that most advocates for alternative methods to animal
testing would ask.

Their Eyes Were Watching God Literary Analysis
While reading the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, I examined the motif
of love and free will in which intertwines with the motif of gender roles. As the book prolongs, Janie
is seen continuously searching to fulfill her pursuit of finding the true love she once fanaticized of.
Janie first crafted her own representation of love while stretched on her back beneath the pear tree in
the alto chant of the visiting bees (11). Her young innocence is connected to the intimacy of nature in
which the bee [sank] into the sanctum of a bloom (11). Janie s belief on marriage is represented
through the usage of a bee and its balanced relationship to the blossom on the pear tree. The scent of
the pear blossoms and the chant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tea Cake allowed Janie to involve herself in community activities while Starks tried to isolate Janie as
much as possible. Janie and Tea Cake moved to the Everglades where there were big beans, big cane,
big weeds, big everything (127). The luscious, thriving nature symbolizes the new and growing
profound love Janie and Tea Cake have for one another. Soon, Janie got ready to pick beans along
with Tea Cake (133) because its mo nicer than settin round dese quarters (133). Therefore, Janie now
doesn t mind partaking in manual labor because it s out of her personal choice and love for Tea Cake
whereas, before with Logan she was forced into it causing no enjoyment. Janie learned what it felt like
to be jealous (136) with Tea Cake involving Nunkie and cut [Tea Cake] short with a blow (137).
Instead of fighting back, Tea Cake kept holding Janie s wrists (137), hurled her to the floor (137), and
kissed [Janie] until she arched her body to meet him (138). The resistance Tea Cake displays to use
physical contact upon Janie reveals Tea Cake s patient character. Also, it adds onto the motif of love
where Janie and Tea Cake have equally passionate feelings toward one another such that Janie is
demonstrating jealously which was absent in her previous marriages. Moreover, with the threat of the
oncoming hurricane and the turned down invite from one of the Bahman workers, Janie and Tea Cake
s relationship heightens. The soon appearance of the violent hurricane caused crashing (159), hurdling
(159), and questioning God (159). The hurricane brings the theme of religion where God is mentioned
throughout the text as a sense of hope and faith. However, Tea Cake and Janie realize they needed to
escape before worse things happened (160) causing Janie to soon approach a near death experience.
While fighting for her life by holding onto the tail of the cow (166) in the aggressive waters, Tea Cake

The Civil Rights Movement Of The United States Of America
Until the 19th century, no abortion laws existed in the United States of America. By the 1880s, most
states had banned abortion except in cases where it was necessary to save the mother s life. The cause
of this shift in attitude can largely be attributed to the American Medical Association, founded in
1847. The organization wanted to stop unlicensed abortions by forcing the people giving them out of
business. Religious leaders supported the American Medical Association s move and worked with
them to lead campaigns that would make abortions illegal. It was only in the 1960 s that these strict
laws were reconsidered. The civil rights movement seeking equal treatment for black Americans led to
women s rights organizations seeing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Better Person InThe Alchemist, By Paulo Coelho
Imagine the impact of helping someone when they need it. When you help someone, it can make
someone s day, or make them want to help someone else, including you. Because of this, not only you
feel better but others will want to help you to. Characters who help someone will receive a benefit,
even if they do not know it at the start. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, Santiago learns,
When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too. First, good
came after bad. Next, Santiago helps people who eventually help him. Last, important lessons make
Santiago become a better person.
First, good came after bad. For example, while Santiago is at Tarifa after he is robbed, he meets a
crystal merchant who allows him to clean his shop, which results in him getting a job there. When
they had eaten, the merchant turned to` the boy and said, I d like you to work in my shop. Two
customers came in today while you were working, and that s a good omen (49). Good comes to
Santiago after he goes through the bad. He is robbed, and then he gets offered a job that will pay him,
so he has a chance to regain the money he just lost. Finally, since he still tries to become better, he gets
a job which will help him gain money for the journey. To conclude, Santiago learns that even if
something bad happens, if you still strive to become better, you will be awarded.

providing extra nitrogen in the soils as a fertilizer. They found evidence that deer populations promote

promotes plant biodiversity, it also decrease the amount of palatable, or edible, plant species. This is

Households which do not live in buildings or census house but live in the open or roadside, pavement,
in Hume pipes, under fly over and staircase, or in the open in places of worship, man daps, railway
platform etc. Are treated as homeless households. Households living in dilapidated homes or
households without access to basic amenities, infrastructure or services apart from households with
too many members living under a single roof (congestion factor) should also be termed as homeless.
The census has found that between 2001 and 2011 homeless population in urban areas grew by 20.5%
but in rural areas it declined by 28.4%. Census 2011 has presented data on homeless household s size.
Most number of homeless households at the national level comprises single member households to be
followed by 7+ members households. The population of homeless in urban areas (9.4 lakhs) is more
than that in rural areas (8.3 lakhs). In India Uttar Pradesh (3.3 lakhs), Maharashtra (2.1 lakhs),
Rajasthan (1.8 lakhs), Madhya Pradesh (1.46 lakhs), Andhra Pradesh (1.45 lakhs), Gujarat (1.4 Lakhs)

Analysis Of If By Rudyard Kipling
I chose poetry because it usually carries many rhetorical elements and is open to more interpretation.
Kipling is successful in achieving this through his poetry because of his experiences and audience.
The main audience he is writing to would be his son, but once he circulated his work physically and
then eventually onto the Internet, the poem applied to many different people. I chose Kipling s piece
in particular because of the emotional bond he distinguished with his audience along with the many
interpretations I was able to gain from this piece. Depending on where a person is at in their life
maturity wise, they can get different lessons from this piece and I found that very unique about his
writing and how he was maximizing the use of his literature. In If, a poem by Rudyard Kipling, he
integrates his personal experiences in a parallel structure in order to form an emotional bond to the
audience and leave the ending open with multiple interpretations.
Kipling s person experiences are constructed to leave a message of maturity for both audiences.
Kipling has his poetry set in a parallel structure and left many of the lines open ended for further
interpretation. He guides the reader in the right direction of the mature thing to do, however,
depending on where a person is at, the audience will take their own route with their personal mindset.
Kipling is trying to convey the message that maturity is not age, but rather growing from situations
and how a person handles

The Theory Of American Exceptionalism
Mandisa Nickerson
POL 2001
May 20, 2015
Final Paper: Question 2 The theory of American Exceptionalism has been around for decades and
outlines what makes the United States so unique based on our governmental structure and our
willingness to defend accordingly. Recently, there have multiple claims that America is not the
superpower it once was based on its unwillingness to become involved in many foreign affairs. Many
believe that instead of America taking care of their responsibilities as the number one democratic
superpower, they are admitting defeat by not tackling these international issues. There have also been
multiple attacks on America s model of democracy and how even a democracy as strong and stable as
ours has encountered dilemmas amongst its economic, political and cultural sectors. American power
is being put into question and the idea of globalization either positively or negatively affecting this
power is up for debate. Based on Americas past disputes pertaining involvement in international
relations, Americas role in world affairs should continue to be less active. Getting involved will
eventually lead to weakening of democratic principles thus ending our exceptionalist nature and
moving us into declination. America s form of democracy is one of the most important reasons why
the United States remains the top superpower. Democracy is defined as a government by the people in
which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by

The Seven Miracles Of Christ Essay
Introduction
Throughout the New Testament are recounts of the miracles that Jesus performed to give proof that He
was indeed the Son of God and the Messiah foretold of in the Old Testament. John chose to recount
only seven of the many miracles that Jesus performed. He felt that these seven, more than any of the
others, showed definitive proof that the Messiah, the Son of God, had come as promised.
The First Miracle John 2:1 11
The first of the seven miracles that John recounts is the turning of water into wine. John notes that this
miracle marks the beginning of Jesus signs to His disciples and the world. Jesus and his mother are
invited to a wedding during which the hosts run out of wine. When the servants come to Mary and tell

Jesus initial response seems somewhat hard and insensitive to me, but as Laney notes He is addressing
the Jewish people in general and the fact that they have a need to see signs to justify their faith.
(Laney, 1992, p.102)
The nobleman asks Jesus again to come and save his son. Jesus tells the man that he can go home; that
his son will live. Now, what I find interesting is that the nobleman didn t even question Jesus or
continue begging him to come with him. The nobleman simply left to go home believing that what
Jesus had said was true. There is no mention anywhere in the Gospel of John of this man or how he
knew of Jesus. It makes sense to me that the nobleman must have witnessed one of Jesus thereby
reinforcing his faith in Him. The illness that afflicted the nobleman s son shows us how weak, frail
and mortal we are. Jesus healing of the man s son shows us that we can be healed of our sins but only
through Him are we saved. He shows that we can have eternal life through Him.
The Third Miracle John 5:1 18 When Jesus goes to Jerusalem He finds there a man who is lame, an
invalid. This man tells Jesus that he is unable to get to the pool by the sheep gate where the waters can
heal him. Jesus could tell that the man had been sick for a very long time; thirty eight years according
to John. So, He asked the man if he wanted to get well. Thinking

Theoretical Perspectives Of Abortion
The Three Theoretical Perspectives on Abortion
Abortion has been a highly debated topic for many years. Until 1973, when abortion was legalized in
the U.S., women were obtaining very dangerous abortions that often killed them in the process.
Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is right. There are
pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives; Structural
Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. This essay explains what the three
theoretical perspectives are and how they view the social issue of abortion.
Structural Functionalism states that everything in society serves a purpose, whether it is positive or
negative. Structuralists look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the years, more people have become pro choice because of the many circumstances under which
a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro Life and Pro Choice supporters are almost 50/50 in the
U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut down Planned
Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot afford to see another
physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health care. If this business shuts
down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a doctor if they think they are
pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc. While these people will have no way
of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals will still be able to afford going to another
doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle/upper class would have less unwanted babies,
allowing them to push off having a child until they are financially and emotionally prepared, while the
lower class will have higher numbers of unwanted babies because they could not afford an abortion. It
is possible that some type of dialectical model could be created that would appeal to both groups, but
as the conflict theory states, there will always be some disagreement.

over
various boundaries of Neoplatonic, Ovidian, and Petrarchan forms, for example, often with many

argument will go on whether an oppressive economic class system is responsible for the oppressive

When reading Philips in light of Rich s essay, the reader realizes that Philips was writing for re vision

male dominated society (35). Apparent in Philips alterations of Donne s metaphors is this drive to

Lab Experiment On The Effect Of Temperature On Enzymes
Title: Effects of Temperature on Enzymes
Problem/Purpose: How does temperature affect the rate of enzyme activity on its substrate?
Hypothesis: If the temperature increases, then rate of the chemical reaction will increase as well, and
if the temperature decreases, then the rate of reaction will also decrease.
Data:
There were three test tubes in which the experiment was held. A relatively equal sized portion of raw
potato (this contained the enzyme [a biological catalyst] hydrogen peroxidase) was placed in each
tube. Then, enough water to cover the potato was added. Proceeding this, each of the test tubes were
assigned a temperature; cold, room temperature or warm (this was written on the tag so that they were
not confused). The test tube destinated cold was placed in a ice bath for five minutes. At the same
time, the hot test tube was placed in a hot water bath for five minutes. Meanwhile, the room
temperature test tube sat at room temperature for five minutes. When the five minutes were over, the
test tubes were returned to the rack (so that they were able to be observed). Then, the test tubes were
allowed to sit at room temperature for five more minutes. Once that period of time was over, 2 ml of
hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) was added to each tube.
Once this step was completed, a timer was started and observations were made. Using the timer, how
long cellular respiration (this was noted by the appearance of gas in the tube) took to start was noted.

  • 2. Ghetto Life Under the Nazis The term ghettos was first used in relation to Jews in the year 1516 when the Venetian government designated a specified living area for its Jewish population. During World War II, they were established by the Nazis to isolate and control the Jews as a first step in their eventual annihilation ( Ghettos ). Throughout the War, the Nazis established over 400 ghettos in Eastern Europe and Russia for this purpose. The Nazi ghetto overseers appointed Jewish councils, called the Judenrat, to maintain order in the ghettos, distribute food rations and to assist the Nazis with deportations to the concentration and death camps (Glazer). Daily life in the ghettos was very challenging for the Jews, and they endured extreme physical hardships from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Lodz ghetto, people suffered similarly. Blanka Rothschild recalled that she managed to acquire a single glove in the ghetto. She passed her glove around to her friends and family, each wearing it for a few minutes, so that the numbness in their hand would subside ( Oral History ). Emmanuel Ringelbaum, a Warsaw ghetto inhabitant who recorded daily occurrences and conditions of the ghetto, explained that cold and shivering Jews felt helpless as they watched others suffer from the cold. He lamented that the most fearful sight ... [was] that of freezing children, [standing] dumbly weeping in the street with bare feet, bare knees and torn clothing. (Dawidowicz 209) The cramped conditions, meager food rations and general lack of cleanliness caused rampant disease throughout the ghettos. Persistent hunger, intense labor, and constant fear of deportation caused an inflated number of heart and circulatory system diseases among the ghetto Jews. The ghettos lacked adequate amounts of medicine to treat the thousands of Jews suffering from typhus, dysentery, tuberculosis, diphtheria, scarlet fever, trachoma, meningitis, and other diseases, and many of them perished as a result. In the Lodz ghetto alone, 7,269 people died from tuberculosis (Dobroszycki). In the Warsaw ghetto, it was estimated that 100,000 Jews contracted typhus in the first 18 months of the ghetto s existence. Hunger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Market Structure: The coffee industry is an extremely competitive one. However, the market structure of the coffee industry and specifically the coffee bean industry that provides the raw materials for Yuban could be described as an oligopoly. The specific characteristics of this oligopoly are, however, more reminiscent of a cartel because a relatively small number of suppliers control the supply and distribution of coffee beans globally (Igami, 2011). Consequently, Yuban, which is a brand within the Kraft Foods umbrella, has limited choice in selecting its supplies. The coffee bean industry was controlled officially through a cartel structure until 1989 under the International Coffee Agreement or ICA but thereafter market competition with new entrants such as Vietnam eroded the control of this official cartel organization (Igami, 2011). Yet, because coffee bean production is largely limited to certain geographic regions, these countries governments express a great deal of control over which entities control production and distribution. Competitive Barriers: There are a number of significant competitive barriers within the coffee bean and coffee grind industry. While virtually any firm can purchase the raw materials or even the finished product in the form of ground coffee, the packaging and distribution of the product is a much more sophisticated endeavor. This Buddha has a bun shaped fleshy protuberance on the crown of the head with a round and plump face, which has been severely weathered, leaving half of a halo behind the head. However, a sense of solemn and compassionate can still be perceived from the downward gazing eyes and the facial expression. The Buddha wears a full shoulder kasaya with compact and specified drapery that forms into a U shape along the axis of the body. The left hand naturally drops to hold a piece of the clothes yet the right forearm is fragmented. The Buddha stands on a rising lotus throne which is set on a Sumeru throne. This artifact was excavated at Ruins of the Ancient Andier City, which is a inner desert that locates 27 km southeast of Andier Ranch (安迪尔牧场) in Minfeng County, Hetian Region, Xinjiang. Originally built in Han dynasty, the city was gradually abandoned during 11th century AD, remaining to be an important site of remnants of the south Silk Road (丝绸之路) of Han and Tang dynasties. This artifact is severely damaged, leaving only part of the head and chest remain. The face of the Buddha appears to be relatively round, using ink to draw the eyebrows and to emphasize the already carved on eyelids. The upper eyelids are curvy while the lower ones are relatively flat. With plump alae of the nose, small lips and dimples on the edge of the mouth, the figure is depicted to be smiling. An older woman trying to deliver a baby may also have more difficulty with the delivery depending on how healthy and in shape she is. That may also affect the labor process as well and how fast it will go. Although, the most common birth defect in children with mothers of an advanced maternal age is Down syndrome. John, a prestigious seismologist, has just discovered an earthquake that has the potential to cause a lot of damage to an area in southern California. He has developed a technique that detects earthquakes that is 80% accurate. This technique has told him this earthquake has a magnitude of 7.3. Lamb to the Slaughter, a short story written by Roald Dahl. The story places the reader in a scenario where Mary Maloney kills her husband after he wishes to have a divorce. She does this with a frozen leg of lamb that she was going to prepare for dinner. Mary is either guilty of murder or innocent due to insanity, supported by evidence from the story. Mary should be deemed guilty and responsible for the murder of her husband Patrick because she contained enough sanity to formulate a plan to escape police persecution. First, Mary was able to acknowledge that she had killed Patrick. At the time of the murder she was pregnant with a child, and she had contemplated what the police would do when the baby was born. She began thinking very fast. As the wife of a detective, she knew what the punishment would be. (Dahl 382) The character Mary was aware of the punishment and could deduce that there would be consequences. The legal insanity defense is used properly when the defendant is unaware that they committed the crime or what they had done was wrong or illegal. On the other hand, what about the baby? • 28. The Population Of Urban Areas CHAPTER 1:INTRODUCTION According to census defined homeless as houseless households. Households which do not live in buildings or census house but live in the open or roadside, pavement, in Hume pipes, under fly over and staircase, or in the open in places of worship, man daps, railway platform etc. Are treated as homeless households. Households living in dilapidated homes or households without access to basic amenities, infrastructure or services apart from households with too many members living under a single roof (congestion factor) should also be termed as homeless. The census has found that between 2001 and 2011 homeless population in urban areas grew by 20.5% but in rural areas it declined by 28.4%. Census 2011 has presented data on homeless household s size. Most number of homeless households at the national level comprises single member households to be followed by 7+ members households. The population of homeless in urban areas (9.4 lakhs) is more than that in rural areas (8.3 lakhs). • 29. Analysis Of If By Rudyard Kipling I chose poetry because it usually carries many rhetorical elements and is open to more interpretation. Kipling is successful in achieving this through his poetry because of his experiences and audience. The main audience he is writing to would be his son, but once he circulated his work physically and then eventually onto the Internet, the poem applied to many different people. I chose Kipling s piece in particular because of the emotional bond he distinguished with his audience along with the many interpretations I was able to gain from this piece. Depending on where a person is at in their life maturity wise, they can get different lessons from this piece and I found that very unique about his writing and how he was maximizing the use of his literature. In If, a poem by Rudyard Kipling, he integrates his personal experiences in a parallel structure in order to form an emotional bond to the audience and leave the ending open with multiple interpretations. Kipling s person experiences are constructed to leave a message of maturity for both audiences. Kipling has his poetry set in a parallel structure and left many of the lines open ended for further interpretation. He guides the reader in the right direction of the mature thing to do, however, depending on where a person is at, the audience will take their own route with their personal mindset. Kipling is trying to convey the message that maturity is not age, but rather growing from situations and how a person handles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Theory Of American Exceptionalism Mandisa Nickerson POL 2001 May 20, 2015 Final Paper: Question 2 The theory of American Exceptionalism has been around for decades and outlines what makes the United States so unique based on our governmental structure and our willingness to defend accordingly. Recently, there have multiple claims that America is not the superpower it once was based on its unwillingness to become involved in many foreign affairs. Many believe that instead of America taking care of their responsibilities as the number one democratic superpower, they are admitting defeat by not tackling these international issues. There have also been multiple attacks on America s model of democracy and how even a democracy as strong and stable as ours has encountered dilemmas amongst its economic, political and cultural sectors. American power is being put into question and the idea of globalization either positively or negatively affecting this power is up for debate. Based on Americas past disputes pertaining involvement in international relations, Americas role in world affairs should continue to be less active. Getting involved will eventually lead to weakening of democratic principles thus ending our exceptionalist nature and moving us into declination. America s form of democracy is one of the most important reasons why the United States remains the top superpower. Democracy is defined as a government by the people in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The individual tiny molecules from which the polymer is formed are known as monomers (meaning, single part) and the process by which the monomer molecules are linked to form a big polymer molecule is called polymerization. The small molecules, which combine to form a big molecule, can be of one or more chemical compounds. Polymer crystals are never perfectly ordered, therefore they rarely experience sharp diffraction peaks like inorganic crystals. The Seven Miracles Of Christ Essay Introduction Throughout the New Testament are recounts of the miracles that Jesus performed to give proof that He was indeed the Son of God and the Messiah foretold of in the Old Testament. John chose to recount only seven of the many miracles that Jesus performed. He felt that these seven, more than any of the others, showed definitive proof that the Messiah, the Son of God, had come as promised. The First Miracle John 2:1 11 The first of the seven miracles that John recounts is the turning of water into wine. John notes that this miracle marks the beginning of Jesus signs to His disciples and the world. Jesus and his mother are invited to a wedding during which the hosts run out of wine. Jesus initial response seems somewhat hard and insensitive to me, but as Laney notes He is addressing the Jewish people in general and the fact that they have a need to see signs to justify their faith. (Laney, 1992, p.102) The nobleman asks Jesus again to come and save his son. Jesus tells the man that he can go home; that his son will live. Now, what I find interesting is that the nobleman didn t even question Jesus or continue begging him to come with him. The nobleman simply left to go home believing that what Jesus had said was true. There is no mention anywhere in the Gospel of John of this man or how he knew of Jesus. It makes sense to me that the nobleman must have witnessed one of Jesus thereby reinforcing his faith in Him. The illness that afflicted the nobleman s son shows us how weak, frail and mortal we are. Jesus healing of the man s son shows us that we can be healed of our sins but only through Him are we saved. He shows that we can have eternal life through Him. The Third Miracle John 5:1 18 When Jesus goes to Jerusalem He finds there a man who is lame, an invalid. This man tells Jesus that he is unable to get to the pool by the sheep gate where the waters can heal him. Jesus could tell that the man had been sick for a very long time; thirty eight years according to John. So, He asked the man if he wanted to get well. Thinking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Theoretical Perspectives Of Abortion The Three Theoretical Perspectives on Abortion Abortion has been a highly debated topic for many years. Until 1973, when abortion was legalized in the U.S., women were obtaining very dangerous abortions that often killed them in the process. Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is right. There are pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives; Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. This essay explains what the three theoretical perspectives are and how they view the social issue of abortion. Structural Functionalism states that everything in society serves a purpose, whether it is positive or negative. Structuralists look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the years, more people have become pro choice because of the many circumstances under which a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro Life and Pro Choice supporters are almost 50/50 in the U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut down Planned Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot afford to see another physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health care. If this business shuts down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a doctor if they think they are pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc. While these people will have no way of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals will still be able to afford going to another doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle/upper class would have less unwanted babies, allowing them to push off having a child until they are financially and emotionally prepared, while the lower class will have higher numbers of unwanted babies because they could not afford an abortion. It is possible that some type of dialectical model could be created that would appeal to both groups, but as the conflict theory states, there will always be some disagreement. ... Examination of Women s Friendships through an Analysis of Katherine Philips Friendship s Mystery: To My Dearest Lucasia When readers reflect on the poetry of the seventeenth century, poets such as John Donne and the Metaphysicals, Jonson and the Cavaliers, and John Milton often come to mind. The poetry crosses over various boundaries of Neoplatonic, Ovidian, and Petrarchan forms, for example, often with many references to women filling the lines. Described as helpless creatures, seventeenth century women were often shut out from all possibilities of power, and they were generalized into four categories: virgins, women to be married, married, and widowed. • 39. Lab Experiment On The Effect Of Temperature On Enzymes Title: Effects of Temperature on Enzymes Problem/Purpose: How does temperature affect the rate of enzyme activity on its substrate? Hypothesis: If the temperature increases, then rate of the chemical reaction will increase as well, and if the temperature decreases, then the rate of reaction will also decrease. Data: There were three test tubes in which the experiment was held. A relatively equal sized portion of raw potato (this contained the enzyme [a biological catalyst] hydrogen peroxidase) was placed in each tube. Then, enough water to cover the potato was added. Proceeding this, each of the test tubes were assigned a temperature; cold, room temperature or warm (this was written on the tag so that they were not confused). The test tube destinated cold was placed in a ice bath for five minutes. At the same time, the hot test tube was placed in a hot water bath for five minutes. Meanwhile, the room temperature test tube sat at room temperature for five minutes. When the five minutes were over, the test tubes were returned to the rack (so that they were able to be observed). Then, the test tubes were allowed to sit at room temperature for five more minutes. Once that period of time was over, 2 ml of hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) was added to each tube. Once this step was completed, a timer was started and observations were made. Using the timer, how long cellular respiration (this was noted by the appearance of gas in the tube) took to start was noted. Noted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
