The Movie And The Band Played On
AIDS brought on many ethical implications. As research was conducted AIDS became well known.
The movie And the Band Played On tells the story of the discovery of HIV and AIDS and the political
issues that went along in the scientific community. During the movie it showed how each patient with
AIDS were treated like they were not part of the human race. The CDC tried their best to gather
enough money for their research. Back then people were uneducated on what exactly the nation was
up against. At the beginning of 1982 there were 447 deaths related to AIDS by 1983 the death rose to
1476 (The AIDS Epidemic 1981 1987, 1981). In June of 1981 the CDC reported an occurrence of PCP
which is known as Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in homosexual males in California (The AIDS
Epidemic 1981 1987, 1981). Back in the 80s there was very little known detail in about AIDS. There
was controversy in the movie of who should get credit for the finding of AIDS either Dr. Robert Gallo
or Dr. Gottlieb. This was an ethical implication that was ongoing throughout the movie. Don Francis
who was part of the CDC wanted to help find what exactly this unknown contagion was that was
killing so many others. Another ethical implication was when the gay society was treated as if they
were the cause of the AIDS epidemic. AIDS did occur in most the gay society but when women and
children started contracting the disease the CDC linked it back to the blood banks. The blood bank
executive fried back and

Justice. First, it will examine the Agency as a whole and then it will explore the individuality of
sectors within the agency. Second, the paper will discuss the different ways that the agency survives
and serves the community. The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice plays a vital role in the
success of at risk youth and maintaining a secure structure to assist youth that end up in troublesome

maintain a positive reputation as one of South Carolinas premiere public service agencies.
DJJ Overview
According to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (2011) website, DJJ is a state cabinet
agency, and by law it is also a treatment and rehabilitative agency for the state s juveniles. DJJ is
responsible for providing custodial care and rehabilitation for the state s children who are incarcerated,
on probation or parole, or in community placement for a criminal or status offense. DJJ s mission is to
protect the public and reclaim juveniles through acts of prevention, community programs, education,
and rehabilitative services in the least restrictive environment possible. DJJ is able to make their
mission a reality through aligning with a wide range of different divisions. The organizational
structure of DJJ is impeccable. They service juveniles, their families and the community through 43
county offices, and operating in all 46 of the state s counties. DJJ (2011) explains that, Case managers
are involved with juveniles from the moment they enter the system until they complete probation
and/or parole. In addition, they conduct detention screenings and intake interviews, complete
risk/needs assessments, and make recommendations to the family court judges regarding case
disposition. They also coordinate case diversion and supervise

How Does Dickens Present The Portrayal Of Victorian Women
In a male dominated world, does the role of women even matter? In the Victorian era, women were
expected to be innocent, loving, and interested in their husbands business or other affiliations. In
Charles Dickens Hard Times, he portrays the Victorian society s realistic and unrealistic views of an
ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated world. Through the portrayal of his female characters,
Dickens shows the lack of morality people had during this time period, as well as emphasizing how an
ideal Victorian woman should act. Dickens example of an idealistic Victorian woman is Sissy Jupe,
while her contrast is Mrs. Sparsit. Louisa s character however, shows the change from a nonidealistic
to an idealistic Victorian woman. The several female characters compare and contrast with each other
throughout the novel and provide evidence of which type of woman they are, as well as how they are
ultimately rewarded or punished. Sissy Jupe exemplifies the ideal Victorian woman in a
maledominated Coketown. Throughout the novel, Sissy remains a compassionate, realistic, and
nurturing young woman. As a child, Sissy does not succumb to the system of facts introduced to her
by Mr. Gradgrind. She struggles with concepts such as arithmetic or living objectively. She shares her
failures at school with Louisa who comforts her with, You are more useful to my mother, and more
pleasant with yourself than I am to myself (Dickens 55). This comment expresses how Sissy is
realistic since her

A Comparison Of Plato, Dover, And Plato

Plato, Dover, and Plato The response I ve chosen to expand and challenge is number four, partly
because its the only one I ve completed and in another part due to the incredibly complex subject
matter. Response four asks us to pick apart the characteristics K.Dover attributes to homosexuality in
classical Athens in comparison to Plato s definitions in Symposium. I discovered that both articles
weren t defining the same things; while Dover was speaking about the literal act, Plato touches on the
more philosophical aspects of the acts the moral implications. I m going to focus and expand on the
specific aspect of domination in sexual relationships by bringing in the complicated, and flippant,
context of The Republic s Book 5 also by Plato. I believe that this text can add a competing idea, the
ideal city containing equality, complicating the hierarchy and bringing in a more wholistic view of the
ideals. In his text Greek Homosexuality, Dover describes the roles of the active and passive lover,
defined by the age of the men. The older erastes, who is considered the dominant lover, and the
younger eromenos, as the passive beloved. This demonstrates the hierarchy that is established between
homosexual lovers (Dover 16). After the eromenos reaches a stage in his life where he becomes a
man, his role is then switched to the erastes, giving him the ability to look for his own eromenos. If a

Registration procedures at colleges can often be confusing and difficult for those who have never had

Medical Experiments During Ww2
Throughout WW2, the Nazis conducted many experiments on prisoners in the concentration camps.
The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of these doctors
used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different experiments that
were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted by Nazis were
inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the experiments done on
humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were beneficial. Some of the data
recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For example, Nazi hypothermia studies,
for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for decades, and recently several scientists have
sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson). Another compelling argument regarding the
injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg
trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Laws
were also made after the Holocaust to protect human test subjects of future experiments. On the
contrary to the dreadful things done to the prisoners, few relevant points are presented as positive
outcomes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The United States And Wyoming Economy Essay
The crackling and popping of the large redwood finally falling was a sweet noise to my grandpa Ray s
tired arms. He stood back and watched with satisfaction as the tree began to fall away from him, but as
it fell the large tree hit the branch of another tree and instead of knocking over the other tree or
breaking the branch, this large tree was heading straight for him. He saw this and stepped back to
move out of the way and fell over a stump. He cried out in agony as the log fell onto his leg. The
happenings in the U.S. and Wyoming economy in the 90s and the conditions my grandmother, Cindy
Pittsley, faced caused her to move from Dubois to a few different places before she settled in Glenrock
and led her to where she is today. My grandmother, 62 today, has lived an eventful life very unknown
to her 22 grandchildren. Most of us know she was married to our grandfather, Ray Pittsley, at the
young age of 16, however, before and after that is mysterious. They settled in Dubois, Wyoming and
raised a family of three girls and two boys. During their children s teens and twenties, my
grandparents worked for the Louisiana Pacific Sawmill in Dubois, Wyoming. This company logged in
Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana and created the job industry in these places. At the sawmill, my
grandmother worked the post peeler. I would generally work eight hours a day. It wasn t hard hard
work, but it was work. Cindy would go to work no matter the weather and no one would ever hear a

Othello s Character Flaws

eventually He did not allow himself to have any uncleanness on his body, so when he discovered that
his wife was white and he was When he is not white, he cannot tolerate his own mistakes and imposes
severe punishment upon himself. In self punishment, Othello s character has been sublimated. In this
way, as far as he himself is concerned, his character is not perfect, but in the eyes of art appreciators,
his character is beautiful, and his character is also very beautiful. There was great love between him
and Desdemona. He destroyed her because he loved her too much. He destroyed himself. It was also
evidence of love. His act of destroying his wife was evil and good. If Othello was a hero who was
clearly aware of the truth, then when Iagu married his wife, he immediately perceived and punished
the bad guys, so that Othello s character was perfect and flawless but, this way, a single, dispositional
character loses its charm, and there is no living Othello full of human nature. ... Show more content on

Although artistic beauty should be higher than the reality of beauty, it should be more idealistic than
the actual beauty, but it is still an ideal based on reality rather than an artificial ideal. The artificially
created ideal person, once born, means death. This is an irresistible artistic rule. As an ideal person,
their character is single, and the person in reality is dual and must be flawed. This duality only
manifests the beauty of art. Othello s controversial figure in the history of world literature is so

PTSD in Catcher in the Rye Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is most commonly thought of as an illness
men and women acquire from experiences while serving in the wars. Some do not even know what it

The Australian Emissions Trading Scheme
Abstract
The Australian emissions trading scheme (ETS) has been the hope of climate policy makers and
environmental scientists alike to reduce the national carbon footprint. Replacing the implemented
carbon tax law, the Australian ETS is a political issue due to the economic and social problems it
entails. With the carbon tax being repealed recently by the current government, the comparison to the
unpopular European Union ETS further emphasizes on its setbacks that it poses (Wood, 2010; Adams,
2014; Watkins, 2014). Hence a move to the ETS will be unlikely in the future.
Introduction: The Australian Carbon Footprint

its heavy reliance on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Carbon Tax Law and Emissions Trading Scheme
Up to 2013, successive Australian governments have lobbied for an emissions trading scheme (ETS)
to curb national emissions. One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in Parliament in
July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of $A23 per tonne
which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company operations and
facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions limit (Foran, 2011;
Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power plants to the mining
sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS managed by the Climate
Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, this statutory institution
will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of greenhouse gases flexible
(Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create economic incentives to entice
industries to take environmentally friendly measures without negatively affecting the national job
market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). At that point, the Australian government
also projected future aims of linking the national ETS with that of the European Union (AuGov, 2012;
Watkins, 2014).

The Honor of Sir Galahad
The knights of King Arthur s time were not only brave, but they were righteous, gallant, and faithful.
In King Arthur s time, chivalry was everything. Knights were expected to do battle, be religious, and
be respectful to women. One such knight was Sir Galahad. He was the son of Lancelot and Elaine of
Corbenic and became a knight at King Arthur s Round Table. The story of Sir Galahad was shared in
The Quest of the Holy Grail from the Middle Ages. It told how Galahad first came to King Arthur s
Round Table, and how despite being brought up by nuns, he was known as a courteous and chivalrous
knight. During the medieval era, chivalry was a very important part of society. ... Show more content

No one else had been able to do that. It was said that only the world s best knight could pull out the
sword. So he pleased the king. King Arthur proclaimed him to be the greatest knight and invited
Galahad to become a Knight of the Round Table. Sir Galahad was shown to have moral purity by
being a trustful, noble leader and putting other people over himself. Because of Galahad s moral purity
and because he was able to pull the sword from the stone so easily, the King asked him to find the
Holy Grail. The King said, If he be indeed the one for whom we have waited to bring to a close the
adventures of the Holy Grail, no man has ever met with greater joy than he shall have of us.
(Matarasso) The actions of Galahad and what was said about him show that he pleased the court and
the King. He had possessed many chivalric attributes including courtliness and moral purity.
These attributes of courtliness and moral purity were very important in the Medieval society. Chivalry
is the representative code for the conduct of the knights on the battlefield, involvement in religion, as
well as a concept of warfare (History Professor Nick Smith), Galahad represented chivalry for the

Since the Eastern Enlargement, efforts to keep history alive are supported in particular by the Europe
for Citizens Programme launched in 2006. The European Commission has extended the programme to
2014 2020 , which was presented in 2011. In the renewed programme, there is a greater focus on
remembrance and hence, a critical European culture of remembrance , rather than a standardised view
on Europe s past, is argued for.
2. The development of the Europe for Citizens Programme and the actors involved
The common European values influence the narrative and the creation of a certain culture of
remembrance. In supranational context, the two memory frameworks dominating official EU
discourses for the creation of a common European historical memory are Nazism and Stalinism. These
two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the European
project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the right to
individual self determination. The aim of remembrance policies is an informed and self critical
European historical memory. This is done with shared European principles and universalised practices
as a basis, while acknowledging the multiplicity of different national pasts at the same time. In other
words, it would not be a homogenisation of the contents of different collective memories, but rather a
Europeanisation of moral and political attitudes and practices

it. Greg! It s time for breakfast! Annie is staying for dinner tonight! He would have responded but it
seemed that he had lost the ability to speak. His heart raced very badly. His mother knocked again.
Greg? Gregor looked at the doorknob, secretly wishing that it would never be turned. Now he heard
conversation and the next moment the door flung open, revealing the affectionate couple, standing
consciously in the hallway, half peering into the messy bedroom. He bolted upright.
Through his dark eyes Gregor saw the couple petrified and wordless. They seemed too stun to stare
and they stood in disbelief. His dad s eyes shot from the vacant bed to the giant vermin and sneered at
him. After a long moment his mum cried softly. Do you hear me Greg? There was no sound except the
heavy heartbeat of the both of them. Greg didn t realise how this happened but the next instant his

Rate Laws Lab
Reaction order and rate laws are key to understanding the speed in which a reaction occurs and the
necessary amounts of each reactant in a reaction. Reaction order determines the concentration of each
reactant and can be used to calculate the amount of a substance in a reaction. The zeroth, first, and
second orders are the most common and were used in this lab. The order of a reaction can be found by
comparing the quantity of a specific substance and the rate in which the reaction occurred. Rate laws
contribute to the speed of differing reactions. This is a necessary principle in many fields. For
example, it is necessary to know the speed of a reaction that goes on during the inflation of an airbag.
Without knowing the rate law the speed could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HCl concluded to be zeroth order but generally reacted faster than Na2S2O3, which was first order.
The rate law for this reaction is rate=k[Na2S2O3]. Both reactions, when graphed, showed a straight

Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s The Surety Of Fools
Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one. We live in a world
that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the
stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety
of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of
validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is
statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While
Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick
decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from
having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted
that uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention
that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman argues that the
illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally
think quickly because they need a reason and so they do not have time to question their explanation.
However, Kahneman neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty.
Kahneman begins his essay by describing his experience in evaluating

artworks, Choo has reflected upon the socio cultural norms of the modern society, highlighting
relatable moments and characters. She was inspired by Octovio Paz who stated that the deep rooted
fact of the human condition is solitude, and only Man knows that he is alone and seeks for company.
Choo (2014) explained that Singaporeans face a significant phenomenal issue solitude despite living
in a highly populated society. In her notable work titled The Hidden Dimension II (see Figure 1

Abstract: A mechanism of the initiated nonbranched chain process of forming 1,2 alkanediols and
carbonyl compounds in alcohol formaldehyde systems is suggested. The quasi steady state treatment
is used to obtain kinetic equations that can describe the nonmonotonic (with a maximum) dependences
of the formation rates of the products on the concentration of free unsolvated formaldehyde. The
experimental concentration of the free unsolvated form of formaldehyde are given at the different
temperatures, solvent permittivity, and total concentrations of formaldehyde in water and alcohols.
An empirical equation for calculating the free formaldehyde concentration in alcohol formaldehyde
(including water/ethanediol formaldehyde) systems at various temperatures and total formaldehyde
concentrations and an equation for evaluating solvent concentrations in these systems were derived.
Keywords: nonbranched chain process, free formaldehyde, 1 hydroxyalkyl radical, formyl radical,

Free radicals add to the carbon atom at the double bond of the carbonyl group of dissolved free
(unsolvated, monomer) formaldehyde. The concentration of

3.3 Leadership Direction
Leadership is important to survive through each and every kind of situation (Burrow, et al. 2007). The
main leader of every company is the CEO, who is not only a president but also a chairman. The strong
leadership of the company is the reason that it has continued in achieving right place in list of the
World s Most Ethical Companies which is held by Ethisphere Institute. The CEO is regarded several
times by Fortune, Ethisphere Institute and Glassdoor, as world s greatest leaders . Vice President very
often said that the employees of the company are the reason he comes to work every day and manage
everything in perfect way (Starbucks News, 2014).
3.4 Motivation
The main reason behind the success as well as growth of the Starbucks is the high rate of hard work
shown by the workers. This is the reason that it was the first company who introduced the right and
benefits for the part time workers. Pensions, grocery shopping discounts, healthy environment and
stock options are the basic opportunities offered by the company (Starbucks, 2014). The company
make full use of the intrinsic as well as extrinsic elements in order to keep their workers motivated all
the time. Different surveys are held to measure the motivation of the workers. The company also

Hamlet Movie Adaptation
Hamlet was written in 1609 by William Shakespeare; Shakespeare is one of the greatest poets and
playwrights. Since the original performance of Hamlet, there have been many movie adaptations.
Some of the many well known film directors for these movies are Kenneth Branagh, Franco Zeffirelli
and Sir Laurence Olivier. From the above film directors, I will compare and contrast Zeffirelli s
production of Hamlet to the original Shakespeare s play Hamlet.
Zeffirelli s version of Hamlet is one of the sound versions of Hamlet. It was produced and starred Mel
Gibson in the late 1900s. Comparing the film version of Hamlet to the play, Zeffirelli has made
noticeable changes in the movie including some clothing choices and characters reactions. He also
altered and cut lines from the original Shakespeare play.
Shakespeare centralized the theme of revenge in the ghost scene in Act 1 Scene 5 with the use of
literary devices. In the movie adaptation, Zeffirelli used a different approach to portray the theme,
without the use of any literary devices. He instead used costume choices, characters reactions and
different word choices.
Zeffirelli used a creative way to portray Hamlet s father wearing a white shirt with black pants instead
of Shakespeare s choice of armour. He used this to show how Hamlet s father would look in 90 s
society. He made Hamlet wear black clothing throughout the movie to show that Hamlet was the only
one who cared and grieved throughout his mother s marriage and until his own death.
Zeffirelli changed the characters reactions throughout the scenes. One of the character changes is
during Hamlet s father s ghost soliloquy. Instead of his father being projected as angry towards his
wife and his brother in the movie, he uses a calm tone. In the movie while Hamlet was listening to his
father, he should have looked angry and upset. Instead he had no emotions while listening to his
father. In the movie, he should have an angry tone and should be eager to plot revenge on who killed
his father, instead he did not talk throughout his father s death story. Zeffirelli chose this so that the
audience will wait and anticipate when Hamlet s anger will grow and his reaction during the scene.

The 14th Amendment Essay
The 14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment provides that no government shall take away the individual right to life, liberty,
and property, within its jurisdiction, without due process of law.
Equal Protection Clause
No state may deprive any individual of the equal protection of the law.
Generally, the statutory classification provided by Congress is presumptively valid, unless such a
classification is considered suspect. The classification touches upon race or ethnicity of citizens falls
within one of the suspect categories. The Court stated that all racial classifications, imposed by
whatever federal, state, or local governmental actor, must be analyzed by a reviewing court under
strict scrutiny. Adarand Constructors, Inc. v. Pena, 515 U.S. 200 (1995). Thus, suspect classifications
are presumed to be void and subjected to heightened scrutiny.
Here, Congress enacted a statute forbidding private clubs that accept state officials as members or
guests from discriminating against citizens seeking the membership ... Show more content on

A benign discrimination may be justified where the distinction is used for remedial purposes of
desegregation. The statute is crafted to ban the exclusion of other racial groups and afford them the
membership eligibility. This would serve its remedial purpose of abolishing pre existing
discrimination. In addition, it has been established historically that white males represent the class that
is socially most advantaged: They do not belong to a discrete insular minority; thus, the impact of the
statute cannot be said to have been placed on a minority group. As the court held in Hunter, where the
discriminatory law s impact falls on minority, it will be under strict scrutiny and the majority needs no
protection against discrimination. Hunter v. Erickson, 393 U.S. 385

the vegetables into thin zoodles. Place in the fridge to chill. 5. In a non stick pan, gently grill the
halloumi slices until brown on both sides, about 3 to 4 minutes. Allow the halloumi to cool before
slicing into thin strips. 6. To assemble: pour in 2 tablespoons of the dressing into the bowl of

chilled plate of watercress. Add more dressing, if desired. Serve immediately. Salad tip: always dress
your salad greens at the last minute, then serve immediately. This prevents vegetables and fruits from
turning limp and soggy. If you are not sure if the salad will be eaten right away, you can toss the salad
at the table, and serve the dressing on the side. Another tip to preserve the crunchiness of leafy greens
is to spin dry (use a salad spinner) the vegetables after rinsing. This quickly removes most of the
moisture without damaging the fragile

First Person Narration In Boyle s Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake s first person narration exhibits and immediate emotional effect on its readers; Charters
explains first person narration tells the story from his or her own accounts or perspective. Secondly, it
is further stated the first person narrator is only able to tell the direct action of what s taking place or
his/her own ability top mentally process what is taking place (1793). Similarly we can see in the
beginning of the story on how he is setting the tone of a 1st person narration through a reminiscent
tone of the past.
Boyle uses of past tense words such as when, were and then at the beginning of the story gives us an
account of sitting in the room with this character being told story before our very eyes. Furthermore
the opening sentence is a powerful way to set the narration There was a time ... Show more content on

This change from the narrator s perspective of his past to actual accounts in a specific point of his past
in the story is absolutely brilliant. From this point, the narrator takes his exquisite descriptions of his
perception of the era when he was as a late teenager to a descriptive detailed moment for moment
account of the single night. Furthermore, the narrator s description of the fight between his self and the
greasy character highlights some of these points. For example, Like a fool, I d gone down on one knee
to comb the stiff hacked grass for the keys, my mind making connections in the most dragged out,
testudineous way then to end that sentence he said the lost key was my grail to salvations (Boyle 166).
This action that he is describing is very detailed from a 1st person narrator and that this narrator can be
considered reliable. Also, with this amount of description and firsthand account makes him a major

The Relevence of Free Will
Genetics play a huge part in who we are. But we also have free will. Aidan Quinn Basically this quote
is saying how we are raised in the home determines a big factory of how discipline we are however we
still must take into consideration that we are still held accountable for our action regardless. Although
how we were raised in the home play a major role with the choices we make in our entire lives as an
individual. I do believe that morals have a strong factor in free will and determinism. Homes that
teach morals and values in life have a strong factor in with their social behavior skill.
Free Will is relevant within the criminal justice sector because I do believe the vast majority do have
control of what they which is why they should be held accountable for their actions as well. However,
determinism does have a strong relevance within the criminal justice system as well. The reason for
my bias answer is because those who have clinically proven diagnoses of psychological mental
disorder should be taken into consideration when committing crime. When one research the word free
will the word is define as the ability to choose how to act (Free Will, n.d.). Then when researching the
word determinism is defined as a theory or doctrine that acts of the will, occurrences in nature, or
social or psychological phenomena are causally determined by preceding events or natural laws.
Clearly the both are incompatible but they can work with each other in the criminal justice ethics

Government Dominated By Big Business
There has been a lot of fuss over big business influencing the government in the United States lately.
Now there is no doubt that the business elite have some influence on politics. It can even be traced
back to the early 1900 s, when the People s Party had disintegrated, but many writers and activists
have continued to echo the Populists central thesis: that the U.S. democratic political system is in fact
dominated by business elites (). Although there are countless arguments to go against this idea, the
questions still comes up today: Is government dominated by big business? Political Scientist G.
William Domhoff believes that government is dominated by big business. More specifically, Domhoff
believes that owners and top level managers in income producing properties are not only dominant
power figures in the US, but they also have inordinate influence in the federal government (). Another
political scientist however, Sheldon Kamieniecki, believes otherwise. He states that businesses do not
really get involved in policies that affect them; and even when they do, their success rate at
influencing policies is not consistent. In fact, he believes that other factions have more influence on
government policies (). Let s go a little more in depth on Domhoff s argument. Domhoff is a firm
believer in big business dominating government. He states that lobbyists from corporations, law firms,
and trade associations play a key role in shaping government on narrow issues of

ABSTRACT
There are so many leaders in this world who shaped the destiny and created a new order for their
countries. Two of very popular leaders are Mahatma Gandhi(India) and Genghis Khan(Mongolia).
This research makes an analysis of these specific leaders, with focusing on their skills and how they
changed the world, the ways they used while they were in charge. This paper will mention their lives
also their strong characteristics, what they have in common or different sides of each. Thus, this paper
will try to reach to an end whose methods are more proper or which one did better jobs.

It became evident that the British could maintain the empire only at enormous cost. At the end of the
Second World War, they saw the writing on the wall, and initiated a number of constitutional moves to
effect the transfer of power to the sovereign State of India. For the first and perhaps the only time in
history, the power of a mighty global empire on which the sun never set , had been challenged and
overcome by the moral might of a people armed only with ideals and courage.
The Cabinet Mission sent by the British government proposed for the bifurcation of India along
communal lines which Gandhi vehemently protested. But eventually he had to relent and on the eve of
independence thousands lost their lives in communal riots. Gandhi urged for communal harmony and
worked tirelessly to promote unity among the Hindus and Muslims. But Mahatma s act of
benevolence angered Hindu fundamentalists and on January 13, 1948 he was assassinated by Hindu
fanatic Nathuram Godse.
GENGHIS KHAN
Genghis Khan, born Temujin, was the founder and Great Khan (emperor) of the Mongol Empire,
which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his demise.
He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of northeast Asia. After founding the
Mongol Empire and being proclaimed Genghis Khan , he started the Mongol invasions that resulted in
the conquest of most of Eurasia. These included raids or invasions of the Kara Khitan Khanate,

The Negative Effects Of Violence In Video Games
Think about it. Does violence in violent video games or role playing games increase violence and
aggression in the real world? Undoubtedly, violent role playing games nowadays are more intense
than ever. These role playing games with simulated violence are perilous for the kids. Surprisingly, In
a simulated role playing game called Killer , students play by shooting each other with water guns to
win money. Author Guy Martin write High Jinks: Shoot Out and tells us about this vehement game.
Games like Killer and other violent video games encourage violence. Not only do they encourage
violence, but they can actually harm the individual playing and distract teens from more important
things like school. Video games can be an opposing factor for many reasons.
According to the text High Jinks: Shoot Out by Guy Martin, the game Killer has a poor effect on the
kids playing and encourages violence. In the text, Martin explains how Killer is a last man standing
game with a pot of three hundred sixty dollars. Saying this, just the game itself is influencing teens to
shoot each other for money. Carey Benedicts in the article Shooting in the Dark says Playing the
games can and does stir hostile urges and mildly aggressive behavior in the short term. By saying this,
she assures that the behavior of individuals can change over time after constantly playing video games
with violence and they can become more aggressive. In the end of the article, Martin states, The game

Anglo Saxon Women In Beowulf
The Ones With Power During Angle Saxon times, women played a modest but significant role. From
the few women that are mentioned in Beowulf, the position of women in Anglo Saxon society is
visible. The women that appeared in Beowulf include Freawaru, Hildeburh, Hygd, and Modthyrth,
however the most important women in the poem are Wealhtheow and Grendel s mother. Women held
considerable power both in physical strength, such as Grendel s mother, and in influence, for example
the Danish Queen Wealhtheow. In The Roles of Anglo Saxon Women it says that their role choices
were nearly limited to mother, wife, caregiver, and teacher. Burrell gives an inside look at the life and
the surprising equality of the genders. Women in the Anglo Saxons were able to own land and
generally had the same rights. Everything that a married couple owned was shared equally and before
they married the fiancé would present his offering to the wife to be s father. Burrell said, If the man is

This fact is increasing the importance of private label references. The importance of price is resulting
in the growing importance of discounters as a place to make daily purchases. Discounters recorded a
positive performance in 2009 and it is a good sign for Marks and Spencer. There is the arrival on to
the Spanish market of low cost outlets such as Kiabi or Primark, and the good performance of second
hand shops which will not have a significant change on opening M S in Spain. (Ibid)
Marks and Spencer s main competitor would be El Cortes ingles and Mercadona. Also, the Spanish
retail market continues to be dominated by small, mostly family owned companies. However, chained
retailers increased in importance over the review period. In 2009, Mercadona led the Spanish retail
market, taking El Corte Inglés s position. Mercadona is benefiting from the dropping price strategy in
order to help Spanish consumers deal with the crisis. Also, the company is seeing sales through its

conditions mostly due to its overpriced image. (Ibid)
As seen in previous years, non store retailing saw a much stronger performance than store based

Model Neurons
Have you ever wondered why we re able to flex our muscles? Or maybe, how to we have the ability to
memorize information? These questions can be answered simply, neurons. Neurons are special cells
that transmit information to other nerve cells, muscles or gland cells. Neurons take up, process, and
transmit information through electrical and chemical signals. The basic neuron is made up of three
parts, the cell body, axons, and dendrites. The cell body contains the nucleus in which all genetic
material and organelles (golgi body, mitochondria, etc.) is carried. Dendrites are short branched

A group of neurological disorders that destroy motor neurons are called Motor Neuron Diseases
(MND). One MND you might recognize is Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as ALS or Lou

Road Cormac Mccarthy The Road Analysis
The book The Road Cormac McCarthy creates a darkened mood when he puts this son and father into
a destroyed world. McCarthy created this concept of a world to intensify the meaning of the piece all
together. This darkness in the world creates to fear and the isolation for characters to realize that this is
how life is from now on. The son in this novel comes to the realization of the world due to certain
events within the novel that manipulation the view the son has on the world. An important flaw the
son has is that he does not remember the world as a peaceful place the son only remembers the world
destroyed. This type of naivetes gives the boy a minimal outlook on the past and see the difference of
the present. The father knows the difference which gives the father the realization before The Road
begins. The son in portions of The Road is starving, this desolate place called the world does not give
any chance of hope or second ones. The importance of this geographical state in the book makes the
father and son rely on one another because they know the very importance of staying alive, and the
only way they can do that is to fight for one another. The Road opens with a setting of desolation,
When he woke in the woods in the dark and the cold of the night he d reach out to touch the child
sleeping beside him , which creates a concern within the readers that are realizing the magnitude of
this horrible place. (McCarthy 3) The son in the first page of the book is mentioned

The country s agricultural products is divided into two main groups: food crops and cash crops
produced for home consumption and exports. The special interest of Government in the Agricultural
sector is due to its relevance in the provision of raw materials for industries and most importantly the
provision of food for the teaming population of Nigeria. (Akiri and Adofu 2007). Basically, agriculture
provides 65% employment opportunities for the population to reduce poverty and contributes to the
growth of the economy (Okoro, 2011). The development of agriculture in Nigeria has been slow
despite the various agricultural policies. In fact, the government recognized the unhealthy
condition(such as lack of access to technology, lack of access to farm inputs, lack of financial
empowerment, high risk etc.) of Nigerian agricultural sector since 1970, and has formulated and
introduced a number of programmes and strategies aimed at resolving this situation. These measures
includes, introduction of scheme such as the River Basin Development Authority (1979), National
Accelerated Food Production (NAFP) was introduced in 1972, Operation Feed the Nation (OFN) was

  • 2. The Movie And The Band Played On AIDS brought on many ethical implications. As research was conducted AIDS became well known. The movie And the Band Played On tells the story of the discovery of HIV and AIDS and the political issues that went along in the scientific community. During the movie it showed how each patient with AIDS were treated like they were not part of the human race. The CDC tried their best to gather enough money for their research. Back then people were uneducated on what exactly the nation was up against. At the beginning of 1982 there were 447 deaths related to AIDS by 1983 the death rose to 1476 (The AIDS Epidemic 1981 1987, 1981). Another ethical implication was when the gay society was treated as if they were the cause of the AIDS epidemic. AIDS did occur in most the gay society but when women and children started contracting the disease the CDC linked it back to the blood banks. The blood bank executive fried back and ... • 4. How Does Dickens Present The Portrayal Of Victorian Women In a male dominated world, does the role of women even matter? In the Victorian era, women were expected to be innocent, loving, and interested in their husbands business or other affiliations. In Charles Dickens Hard Times, he portrays the Victorian society s realistic and unrealistic views of an ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated world. Through the portrayal of his female characters, Dickens shows the lack of morality people had during this time period, as well as emphasizing how an ideal Victorian woman should act. Dickens example of an idealistic Victorian woman is Sissy Jupe, while her contrast is Mrs. Sparsit. Louisa s character however, shows the change from a nonidealistic to an idealistic Victorian woman. The several female characters compare and contrast with each other throughout the novel and provide evidence of which type of woman they are, as well as how they are ultimately rewarded or punished. Sissy Jupe exemplifies the ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated Coketown. Throughout the novel, Sissy remains a compassionate, realistic, and nurturing young woman. As a child, Sissy does not succumb to the system of facts introduced to her by Mr. Gradgrind. She struggles with concepts such as arithmetic or living objectively. She shares her failures at school with Louisa who comforts her with, You are more useful to my mother, and more pleasant with yourself than I am to myself (Dickens 55). A Comparison Of Plato, Dover, And Plato Mia Shehadi Prof. Dresser Classics 361 Midterm Option 2.A 30 October, 2017 Plato, Dover, and Plato The response I ve chosen to expand and challenge is number four, partly because its the only one I ve completed and in another part due to the incredibly complex subject matter. Response four asks us to pick apart the characteristics K.Dover attributes to homosexuality in classical Athens in comparison to Plato s definitions in Symposium. I discovered that both articles weren t defining the same things; while Dover was speaking about the literal act, Plato touches on the more philosophical aspects of the acts the moral implications. I m going to focus and expand on the specific aspect of domination in sexual relationships by bringing in the complicated, and flippant, context of The Republic s Book 5 also by Plato. I believe that this text can add a competing idea, the ideal city containing equality, complicating the hierarchy and bringing in a more wholistic view of the ideals. In his text Greek Homosexuality, Dover describes the roles of the active and passive lover, defined by the age of the men. The older erastes, who is considered the dominant lover, and the younger eromenos, as the passive beloved. This demonstrates the hierarchy that is established between homosexual lovers (Dover 16). After the eromenos reaches a stage in his life where he becomes a man, his role is then switched to the erastes, giving him the ability to look for his own eromenos. If a boy ... The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of these doctors used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different experiments that were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted by Nazis were inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the experiments done on humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were beneficial. Some of the data recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For example, Nazi hypothermia studies, for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for decades, and recently several scientists have sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson). Another compelling argument regarding the injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Laws were also made after the Holocaust to protect human test subjects of future experiments. He stood back and watched with satisfaction as the tree began to fall away from him, but as it fell the large tree hit the branch of another tree and instead of knocking over the other tree or breaking the branch, this large tree was heading straight for him. He saw this and stepped back to move out of the way and fell over a stump. He cried out in agony as the log fell onto his leg. The happenings in the U.S. and Wyoming economy in the 90s and the conditions my grandmother, Cindy Pittsley, faced caused her to move from Dubois to a few different places before she settled in Glenrock and led her to where she is today. With the carbon tax being repealed recently by the current government, the comparison to the unpopular European Union ETS further emphasizes on its setbacks that it poses (Wood, 2010; Adams, 2014; Watkins, 2014). One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in Parliament in July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of $A23 per tonne which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company operations and facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions limit (Foran, 2011; Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power plants to the mining sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS managed by the Climate Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, this statutory institution will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of greenhouse gases flexible (Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create economic incentives to entice industries to take environmentally friendly measures without negatively affecting the national job market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). At that point, the Australian government also projected future aims of linking the national ETS with that of the European Union (AuGov, 2012; Watkins, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two regimes and their policies embody an absolute contrast to the ideals embraced in the European project: peace, freedom, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and the right to individual self determination. Reaction order determines the concentration of each reactant and can be used to calculate the amount of a substance in a reaction. The order of a reaction can be found by comparing the quantity of a specific substance and the rate in which the reaction occurred. Rate laws contribute to the speed of differing reactions. We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so they do not have time to question their explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his essay by describing his experience in evaluating ... Using 1 Hydroxyalkyl Free Radicals Essay Addition of 1 Hydroxyalkyl Free Radicals to Unsolvated Formaldehyde in Alcohol Formaldehyde Solutions with Nonbranched Chain Formation of 1,2 Alkanediols Michael M. Silaev Department of Chemistry, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Vorobievy Gory, Moscow 119991, Russia Corresponding Author: mmsilaev@rc.chem.msu.ru Copyright 2016 Abstract: A mechanism of the initiated nonbranched chain process of forming 1,2 alkanediols and carbonyl compounds in alcohol formaldehyde systems is suggested. The quasi steady state treatment is used to obtain kinetic equations that can describe the nonmonotonic (with a maximum) dependences of the formation rates of the products on the concentration of free unsolvated formaldehyde. The experimental concentration of the free unsolvated form of formaldehyde are given at the different temperatures, solvent permittivity, and total concentrations of formaldehyde in water and alcohols. An empirical equation for calculating the free formaldehyde concentration in alcohol formaldehyde (including water/ethanediol formaldehyde) systems at various temperatures and total formaldehyde concentrations and an equation for evaluating solvent concentrations in these systems were derived. Keywords: nonbranched chain process, free formaldehyde, 1 hydroxyalkyl radical, formyl radical, competing reaction, equation. Free radicals add to the carbon atom at the double bond of the carbonyl group of dissolved free (unsolvated, monomer) formaldehyde. The concentration of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Hamlet Movie Adaptation Hamlet was written in 1609 by William Shakespeare; Shakespeare is one of the greatest poets and playwrights. Since the original performance of Hamlet, there have been many movie adaptations. Some of the many well known film directors for these movies are Kenneth Branagh, Franco Zeffirelli and Sir Laurence Olivier. From the above film directors, I will compare and contrast Zeffirelli s production of Hamlet to the original Shakespeare s play Hamlet. Zeffirelli s version of Hamlet is one of the sound versions of Hamlet. It was produced and starred Mel Gibson in the late 1900s. Comparing the film version of Hamlet to the play, Zeffirelli has made noticeable changes in the movie including some clothing choices and characters reactions. He also altered and cut lines from the original Shakespeare play. Shakespeare centralized the theme of revenge in the ghost scene in Act 1 Scene 5 with the use of literary devices. In the movie adaptation, Zeffirelli used a different approach to portray the theme, without the use of any literary devices. He instead used costume choices, characters reactions and different word choices. Zeffirelli used a creative way to portray Hamlet s father wearing a white shirt with black pants instead of Shakespeare s choice of armour. He used this to show how Hamlet s father would look in 90 s society. He made Hamlet wear black clothing throughout the movie to show that Hamlet was the only one who cared and grieved throughout his mother s marriage and until his own death. Zeffirelli changed the characters reactions throughout the scenes. One of the character changes is during Hamlet s father s ghost soliloquy. Instead of his father being projected as angry towards his wife and his brother in the movie, he uses a calm tone. In the movie while Hamlet was listening to his father, he should have looked angry and upset. Instead he had no emotions while listening to his father. In the movie, he should have an angry tone and should be eager to plot revenge on who killed his father, instead he did not talk throughout his father s death story. Zeffirelli chose this so that the audience will wait and anticipate when Hamlet s anger will grow and his reaction during the scene. With the removal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Equal Protection Clause No state may deprive any individual of the equal protection of the law. Generally, the statutory classification provided by Congress is presumptively valid, unless such a classification is considered suspect. The classification touches upon race or ethnicity of citizens falls within one of the suspect categories. The Court stated that all racial classifications, imposed by whatever federal, state, or local governmental actor, must be analyzed by a reviewing court under strict scrutiny. Adarand Constructors, Inc. v. Pena, 515 U.S. 200 (1995). Thus, suspect classifications are presumed to be void and subjected to heightened scrutiny. The reason for my bias answer is because those who have clinically proven diagnoses of psychological mental disorder should be taken into consideration when committing crime. • 34. Government Dominated By Big Business There has been a lot of fuss over big business influencing the government in the United States lately. Now there is no doubt that the business elite have some influence on politics. It can even be traced back to the early 1900 s, when the People s Party had disintegrated, but many writers and activists have continued to echo the Populists central thesis: that the U.S. democratic political system is in fact dominated by business elites (). Although there are countless arguments to go against this idea, the questions still comes up today: Is government dominated by big business? Political Scientist G. William Domhoff believes that government is dominated by big business. More specifically, Domhoff believes that owners and top level managers in income producing properties are not only dominant power figures in the US, but they also have inordinate influence in the federal government (). Another political scientist however, Sheldon Kamieniecki, believes otherwise. He states that businesses do not really get involved in policies that affect them; and even when they do, their success rate at influencing policies is not consistent. In fact, he believes that other factions have more influence on government policies (). Let s go a little more in depth on Domhoff s argument.
