Difference Between Opportunity Cost And Benefit Essay
l. Opportunity cost a benefit that someone could have gotten but gave it up for an alternative route.
Benefit an advantage or profit gained from something. The Difference between these words is that
opportunity cost is deciding a different route instead of the beneficial one that is offered and benefit is
taking that advantage; Opposites. You can figure out of the choice is rational or irrational by looking
up statistics. See what the statistics are on taking out a loan for college and if it will benefit you or if
you should take a separate route. Difference between opportunity cost and benefit, and how these
terms can be used to determine if a choice was rational or irrational Benefit is something you can
profit from Opportunity cost is the second best decision Website:

best choice. Title: Opportunity cost D. Summary: You have $15,000 saved up to either get a college
degree or invest in a stock. The opportunity cost would be making the decision to get your degree and
overtime make more money in your lifetime. The second best choice of buying shares can make you a
ton of money but it also fluctuates and you could completely loose your money. E. This is a great
example because it gives two options. A better one that in the long run will benefit you more and a
second choice that will still be beneficial; second best decision. ll. Economic value the maximum

Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean
Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: For human populations, particularly people in the
poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food. As a result,
fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic
levels that are higher than those fished. For a long period of time, several human populations across
the globe have continued to depend on fish as a significant source of food and nourishment, which has
contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease
in the global catch of fish. Nonetheless, the links between overfishing and food security have
remained largely unclear and uncertain. According to the findings of research, approximately 50
percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan,
Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled
by the significant increase in the demand for food because of the constant increase of human
population. While the practice has remained a major threat to every fish species in the ocean, it has
largely contributed to the large migrations by marine mammals as they seek to get the left over fish.
Since the 1950s, there has been an increasing trend in the number of unsustainable fisheries, which is
an indication of the global geographic expansion of overfishing (Coll et. al., p.1).

Media Violence and Violence in Society
If television causes aggression and violent behavior, assuming that the television programming
contains some violence, there should be more and more violent crime after television is available
(Freedman). Many suggest the violence in media is causing violence in society but then how is it that
violent crimes are actually decreasing in the United States. The violence that is occurring is actually
due from the mentally ill, poor parenting, and the location of where one lives in society. Violence has
actually decreased over the decades even though media has more violence than ever before. According
to a report done by Lawrence W Reed with the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, by the age of 18 an
American child will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence. These are
astounding figures yet crime has hit a nine year low (Frieden). Because of these statistics media is not
causing more crime in America. The actual correlation between being exposed to media violence and
actually acting violently are not conclusive. According to Jonathan L. Freedman of the University of
Toronto, The Surgeon General s Report on Youth Violence concluded that exposure to television
violence causes a short term increase in aggression, but when on to say that television violence has
little or no role in causing real violence. Again this is showing that there might be a little aggressive
behavior caused by media violence but the long term effects are not what is causing

Skellig Symbolism
In David Almond s magic realist novel Skellig, the story follows the protagonist Michael, a young boy
who is facing many difficulties and challenges in his young life, the author uses a number of language
devices to tell his story, including puns, metaphors and similes. However one of the most powerful
devices are symbols. The author strongly uses symbols to reinforce character traits and to show the
connections between characters throughout the novel. The author constantly refers to the symbols of
evolution, death, birds and wings.
Evolution in the novel Skellig has a strong connection to bones and skeletons these are constantly
referred to when describing arthritis and Skellig. Evolution is also constantly associated with change
and new beginnings. Bones play a significant role in the novel as they are a symbolism of evolution
because they develop and grow. This is evident when Michael introduces Mina to Skellig and Mina
discovers that Skellig has calcification. Mina explains that it is The process by which the bone hardens
and becomes inflexible ... where the bone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Black is often connected with death and despair, white is often connected to life, freedom and
innocence. As Doctor Death is looking over Michael for sickness, Michael describes doctor death as,
He was cold, dry, pale as death. Wings would never grow at his back this suggests that wings are
connected to freedom and life, Doctor Death has no sign of living or happiness he wears black which
is a symbolism of death and despair it is also a symbol of being trapped or restricted. In contrast, in
the final pages of the novel, Skellig leaves behind 3 white feathers. The feathers are a symbolism of
hope, life and new beginnings, these are also a symbolism of how skellig has changed, earlier on he
was often associated with the colour black however now he is connected with the colour white, and he
is no longer a symbolism of death, but now

Using Structured Interview Method For Future Selection
(1) Refer to Appendix and based on the data available, I would recommend that this company should
use the structured interview method for future selection because the method has the highest utility
compare with the other two selection methods. A higher utility indicates an increased validity of the
method used, and this implies that the annual productivity of these selected applicants in average
dollar value would increase thereby increasing the financial position of the company (pg.191).
Structured interview method which is a standardized technique is the process of asking, collecting,
and rating of the interviewees based on the information collected from them (pg.221). All the
respondents are asked the same questions in a predetermined format and the essence of this interview
method is to know and determine the past experiences and the qualities the interviewees are bringing
into the company.
When the numbers of applicants are increased to 200, the utility for structured interview increased
from 95,080 to 96,680. Utility for the Mental Ability decreased from 75,120 to 73,360. The utility for
the work sample decreased from 58,200 to 55,000. The structured interview showed higher validity in
the selection method which implies an increase in the average dollar value of annual productivity by
candidates that were selected for the positions (Pg.191); however, the utilities for mental ability and
work sample decreased thereby showing decrease in average dollar value and in

History Of Career And Technical Education
Career and Technical Education has played a large role throughout the history of the United States and
Ohio specifically. The legal history of Career and Technical Education in the United States and the
state of Ohio has a long history dating back to the 1800s. Career and Technical Education is also at the
forefront in current legal news: a bill sitting in committee and a push for more Americans to study in
Career and Technical Education related fields. With Americans realizing that not everyone can or
wants to attend college or university, Career and Technical Education is relevant and so is its long
history in the United States and, more specifically, Ohio. Before 1862, there was really no legal
history for Career and Technical Education. However, Congressman Justin S. Morrill of Vermont
proposed a bill in 1857 to have federal support in agricultural and industrial education. President
Buchanan did not support the legislation, so there was no action on the bill. In 1861 however, Morrill
reintroduced his bill to the House of Representatives. President Lincoln later signed it in summer of
1862. This act gave public lands to build colleges for agriculture and mechanical arts in each state.
Each state, within five years, had to provide a college or the state would be revoked of the grant. This
set the stage clearly for the rest of the legislation in what is now known as Career and Technical
Education ( Independent Action 38). The first major legislation in Ohio for Career

Essay On Cordoba
In pre Islamic period, Cordoba was an important political centre because of its geostrategic condition
opened a new page in its history with being captured by Umayyad Arabic in 711. Abd al Rahman El
Takati who was the fifth governor of the Umayyad Dynasty in Damascus carried government centre
from Seville (İşbiliyye) to Cordoba in 716. Thus, Cordoba became one of four centres during the
management of early Andalusia Umayyad (Hillenbrand, 1994: 112 113). With the moving of the
central government, the first urban studies were started in Cordoba. In addition to city public works,
the population of the city increased and the southern districts of the city were established as the new
settlements (Akyüz, 2005: 238 239). Cordoba s spectacular rising ... Show more content on

Real splendour of this era could be seen on the developments being achieved in the science, culture
and art fields rather than political space. Cordoba University which was founded by Abd al Rahman

and the Muslim world to itself. In this period, even there were a complete ignorance within Western
Europe; the rate of literacy was very high in Cordoba and Andalusia cities (Bal, 2008: 68). Cordoba

Middle Age. Libraries that were established by each sultan were combined at the time of Hakem II

complete ignorance in Europe, Andalusia and its capital Cordoba were at the highest level in many
fields such as religious as well as history, geography, philosophy, law, mathematics and medicine.

The Walking Dead Themes
Have you ever felt like you are living in a world where humanity isn t at its best? Have you ever felt
mixed emotions by watching a TV show? Is it possible for a show to represent love, hate, anger,
drama, pain, sadness or even cause you a sense of distress? The Walking Dead is the perfect show to
make you think about how people act in different situations in life and shows us what type of people
these circumstances can create. The show is based on a post apocalyptic time where the existence of
humanity is near its end. The Walking Dead represents themes of fear, betrayal, sacrifice, hope,

The Walking Dead represents fear, betrayal, sacrifice, hope, leadership and, the conflict between good
and bad. Fear, the main theme of the show, followed by sacrifice is portrayed in every episode where
everyone fears where are they going to end the next day, where they find themselves questioning if
that is their last day, scared of losing a loved one and of course, the fear of being eaten by walkers .
Sacrifice, portrayed at its highest, on life or death situations where every character feels torn between
two options that may affect someone in one way or another, as well when someone will die for the
safety of others. Betrayal, one of the most repetitive themes in the show that represents what will a
person do to save himself/herself in a life or death situation, and in this case, each character try to
build up alliances that at the end, they betray their own, which could lead to someone dying or getting
hurt, depending on the situation. Leadership and hope can be put together since in the show, the main
thing that a leader should do is give his/her followers hope that everything can get better, and the show
portrays it every time Rick Grimes try to take matters on his hands for his group, considered as his
family, hope as well, as the birth of Rick s daughter, brought a more hopeful future for the survivors.
The walking dead represents each of these themes in a strong way, where humanity is at its lowest and
how human beings see themselves obligated to make decisions never thought to do in their

Mass Media On Teenagers
The media has a strong influence on teenagers since they are mentally vulnerable and have access to
various media especially visual and social. It is imperative for parents to filter the content that
teenagers have access. This paper seeks to find out the effects of media on teenagers. Mass media has
both negative and positive influences, and I strive to prove this claim.
Online media and television have given teenagers access to health education on various diseases such
as STDs, acne, and depression. The programs help the adolescents to dispel any myths about health
care. Health organizations such as MayoClinic have confidential sites where teenagers are given a
platform to ask any question without being judged. Youths who suffer from chronic conditions such as
diabetes, asthma and skin ailments can join networks that provide support and the best method to
handle their health.
Television also has the potential to create negative and positive impacts. Although not all television
programs are immoral, data has shown that the majority have scenes of violence, offensive language,
and inappropriate sexuality. Such series include Empire, where the main character deals with drugs,
violence and sex. Another show is Game of Thrones where the characters portray gory battle scene,
foul language and sexual scenes. Television has also been shown to take teens away from their reading
and studying time since they become addicted to the programs they watch (Osama 94).
Television occupies time for exercises and other physical activities from teenagers. Youths who binge
watch television are more likely to consume junk foods and snacks that contain high calorie intake.
Since these calories are not being burned physically, there is a higher chance that these teenagers will
end up being obese. Advertised foods have been shown to contain fats that surpass the recommended
limit by nutritionists. The number of hours spent watching programs on television is related to an
increased chance of cholesterol levels in teens. Eating disorders, especially in female teens, have been
fueled by the images seen on television of thin models or characters in TV programs who have lost
weight due to unconventional ways.
Advertising media has shown

It was like two hands intertwining together when the moon s light peeked through the gargantuan

family. If all goes well tonight, I will be a free man who makes his own decisions instead of having
everything forced upon me by an austere master. It seems like we had been running for days and my
feet had never felt pain this agonizing until now. We slid through the woods like a snake slithering

What Is Objective Reality In The Allegory Of The Cave
The correspondence theories of truth tell us that a belief is true if it corresponds to reality (DeWitt

Essay On Trauma
Without a doubt having taken this course has opened my eyes to the subject of trauma and its effects
in ways that I would never have conceived in my limited exposure to this area of study. I can say, that
it is the study of trauma and its many faceted dimensions that have perked up my ears at times such as
when the mention of the term on the T.V. brings me to tune in to hear what the latest event or
discussion surrounding a specific take on violence and its trauma related after probing. My reflection
on my emotional reactions to certain KB s is that at the heart of the topic of trauma are various
nuisances. I am looking at my journey as I go through the course, and I am personally affected by
resilience as a factor of people s lives. I was struck by this because the idea was not one which comes
to my attention when thinking of trauma. What comes to mind is what takes place at the time of a
traumatic event and the recovery aspect of it. The varied aspects of family history and resilience never
entered the conversation about trauma which I carried on with myself. But after looking at the need
for victims of traumatic events such as a mass shooting to get better after a traumatic event, it is
reiterated over and over by research of well documented studies as to how a person s recovery
progresses will depend on what resilience mechanisms have been laid down in their childhood for a
given individual. I have this point of view or good stressors to fall back on for myself

Persuasive Speech About Crafting
When people think of crafting, they think of craft fairs in small towns, of mothers and grandmothers
manning booths with hand sewn clothing for American Girl dolls and beeswax candles and hand
knitted mittens and hats and they re not totally wrong. But these days, everyone is crafting.
Thanks to the proliferation of do it yourself blogs on the internet and online interior design magazines,
crafting is bigger than ever. It s become something that s no longer reserved for grandmothers who
spend their days sewing quilts while they watch episode after episode of General Hospital. In fact,
many young people have taken up crafting, having figured out that making great gifts and things for
your home is so much easier and better than buying them.
This year, instead of gifting store bought gifts, consider making things on your own. When you ve

I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen
I Stand Here Ironing, which is a popular short story by Tillie Olsen describing the hard lives of people
during The Great Depression in the 1930s, focuses on the numerous difficulties of a mother who had
to take care of a child by herself. The short story begins with a view of an apartment room where a
woman is ironing. Her work is interrupted by a call asking for her help for understanding Emily, her
first daughter. By recalling and gathering all memories between her and Emily, the narrator realizes
that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and regretful about her daughter. In the end,
turning back to the present, she believes that Emily will be fine with her true value inside despite of
the rocky childhood. In the setting, the narrator is doing her housework, ironing, as an ordinary
activity at every late night weekend after taking her children to bed. Actually, the ironing, which is
such a boring work for everyone, makes her mind easily follow the mental process of flashback about
Emily s childhood, especially after she receives a call from Emily s counselor.
By the time of the post Great Depression, most of working class families still lived in the small, old
and hovel apartments in urban or suburban areas. Each apartment only had two or three rooms where
all family members had to share their spaces to live. Under the glimmering, dim yellow light of a
lamp, the room in the setting appears as little, simple living room which is combined with the dining

People Allow Adversity To Rid Them Of Hope....
People allow adversity to rid them of hope. Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut highlights the
pitfalls of mankind in their perception of love, death, war, and societal norms through the unusually
clear lenses of Billy Pilgrim. Pilgrim s acceptance towards life relieves him of the weight of the world;
however, even Pilgrim is unable to remain indifferent about war. Billy Pilgrim encounter with the

Granville Hicks notes how war leaves soldiers disillusioned and, The terrible destruction of Dresden
is... an example of the way the military mind operates (Hicks 602 603). Pilgrim sees the trivialities of
war, while exhibiting disdain for other aspects in life; this demonstrates the effect war had on him. In
Novels for Students, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. speaks about how the bombing of Dresden made the terrain
look like the moon, Pilgrim noticed that Nobody talked much as the expedition crossed the moon.
There was nothing appropriate to say. One thing was clear: Absolutely everybody in the city was
supposed to be dead, regardless of what they were, and that anybody that moved in it represented a
flaw in the design (Vonnegut 260). The soldiers, left speechless at the carnage, Pilgrim states that We
had been foolish virgins in the war, right at the end of childhood... you ll be played in the movies by
Frank Sinatra and John Wayne or some of those other glamorous, war loving, dirty old men. And war
will look just wonderful, so we ll have a lot more of them (Vonnegut 18). War lost all glamourous
appeals; the monotonous task of fighting in the military wore on Billy Pilgrim and made him question
his participation in the war. The alienating experience of war separates soldiers from everyday people;
civilians never see the horrors of war, they never see the casualties and deaths, they never suffer from
the traumas of war.

Methods Of Design For Social Capital
Methods of Design for Social Capital Social capital in collaborative economy intermediaries is
incorporated by design. This section outlines some of the available methods for designing for
inclusivity. Much of the existing research around designing for trust online focuses on increasing users
trust. Researchers Riegelsberger, Sasse, and McCarthy (2005) instead decided to design a framework
focusing on factors that lead the trusted actor (service provider) to act in a trustworthy manner. The
design heuristics include stable identity, traceability/accountability, group membership, group identity,
social presence, and recording outcomes. By limiting users to ATB Financial customers, trust is
created through stable identity and group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the most common way to establish trust in the collaborative economy. A complaint of these
reputation systems is the accuracy of reviews given and the tendency to only provide extremely
satisfied or extremely unsatisfied reviews. Some platforms are aware of this and incorporate
mechanisms to encourage accurate, average reviews. For example, Airbnb added a feature in 2014 to
reveal host and guest reviews simultaneously to make both parties feel comfortable in leaving honest
reviews without the worry of a dishonest retaliatory review. The ATB gig site will not only reveal
reviews simultaneously, it will have a template for constructive feedback. The template will ask for a
rating and/or review of specific behaviours, such as adhering to the terms of the agreement. Both
parties, in advance of the gig, will negotiate the agreement to facilitate clear communication and
expectations. Rare and used mostly in online gaming, hybrid trust models use both network structure
and interactions to compute trust. In this model, interacting users exchange friend lists that are saved
as a friendship graph. The more frequent the interactions and the longer their duration, the higher the
trust value. This is an infrequently used trust model. This model may be considered for a future
iteration of the site, but only for ATB employees to identify service providers who would be a good fit

On Liberty Speech Analysis
This essay will explain Mill s view regarding freedom of expression and apply it to a modern concern
regarding hate speech. In On Liberty, Mill argues in favor of nearly unrestricted freedom of expression
in accordance with the harm principle because limiting the opinions of others hinders the marketplace
of ideas or clashing of views to allow for the truth to rise to the top through refinement or exchanging
false beliefs for truths. Mill explicitly states that silencing speech is an evil that robs the human race,
posterity as well as the existing generation.... It robs those who disagree with these silenced opinions.
Mill s view is utilitarian because minimizing speech is socially advantageous because it allows people
to learn from the choices, actions, and experiences of others. Additionally, this view is utilitarian
because limiting speech would lead to even worse harm than simply tolerating hateful or harmful
speech.
The main arguments that Mill presents in favor of his view in favor of almost complete freedom of
expression. First, allowing government censorship allows for the government to act with infallibility
to what is right or true. To refuse hearing opposing opinions because the government is sure the belief
to be false is to assume that their certainty is absolute certainty. Instead, allowing for near unlimited
freedom of expression allows for the consideration of thoughts. This allows us as citizens to evaluate
and critique other government and our own governments that have been wrong in the past. By
allowing for the presentation of contrary views, we as humans can be aware of past mistakes and
come to know the truth. For example, allowing for Galileo arguing that the Earth revolves around the
Sun allowed for correcting the false belief that the Earth is at the center of the universe. While this
allowance can lead to risky behaviors, prejudices or other harms, Mill hold that regardless, it is worth
these risks and challenges because this can lead to finding truths or correcting truths. Second, Mill
argues that allowing for falsehoods to be spoken, even if wholly false, can have some kernels of truth
that lead to truths for that issue or truths of other issues. Suppressing speech can lead to

Literary Analysis Of Hercules Delivering Prometheus By...
Hercules Delivering Prometheus, a free standing French sculpture, now in the Art Gallery of Ontario
is cast in bronze by Francois Lespingola. This highly intricate bronze sculpture is an example of
French baroque art, which was created in between 1690 and 1705. The incredible creativity of this
composition and the audacity of its three dimensional conception included a widely known scene from
classic Greek mythology. A series of statuettes on the sculpture depict a display of Hercules freeing
the chained Prometheus from an eagle that comes to pick his liver each day. Lespingola promoted
these effects in grouping multiple figures, optimizing the individual prominence of each figure and
integrating them into one concordant sculpture.

The mixture of realism and idealism allows the sculpture to stand and symbolize other figures at the
same time. These figures have a style of idealism especially the way Hercules and Prometheus look.
They are both very muscular. The muscles have defining curves, showing that the body is flexed and
in action. These ideal human forms also show that the symmetry is not being equal, but the
proportions of these individuals make a whole composition. Furthermore, the male figures are more
human than human. They are idealized in softer cravings with smaller heads and the hair is very
stylized. The movements of the male figures are emphasized in a contrapposto position. Both are
counterposed and weight is shifted on a feet. These shapes come together and give the effect of how
the real body looks like. Moreover, it suggests the figure s characteristics. For example, Hercules s
weight is on his right foot and left foot is placed as a movement. The indication of his dynamic
movement reflects his strong character. Prometheus s kneeing contrapposto position along with his
anxious expression gives an insight that he is trembled with fear. The eagle s fierce eyes, sharp beak
and its threatening gesture show a strong determination of defeating Hercules. The artist inlaid eyes in
all figures which helps to gain more understanding of their emotions. In fact, the

Animal Poaching In Zimbabwe
Poaching in Zimbabwe has been a major issue in Zimbabwe since the mid 1800 s. Many of Zimbabwe
s wild animals have suffered a massive decline in population due to poaching. The best way to stop
the decline of wild animals in Zimbabwe is drones. Using drones will give rangers an upper hand
against animal poachers by monitoring and tracking different animals and poaching zones. For the
past 2 decades, Endangered animals are being killed for simple body parts tusks, bones, or pelts
illegally for money. Many poaching laws have been established in Zimbabwe but none of these laws
have been effective.
Poaching
has been illegal for hundreds of years, but it was during the Late Middle Ages that poaching
became a punishable offense. During this time, the right to hunt was limited to landowners and
nobility. Peasants usually did not have weapons, skills or the extra time to hunt, so in order to provide
food for their families they devised another way to bring meat to their tables ( How Poaching works ).
Since the middle ages people have always been buying and selling animals but as life got tougher for
the poor they had to resort to killing and selling body parts of animals to gain money. In the mid 1800
s hunting was only for the wealthy and privileged but as poverty increased poaching levels did too.
While hunting was reserved for the privileged, it was illegal to buy and sell wild animals. It remained
illegal to do so until the mid 1800s. Gangs of poachers formed outlaw

literature in America Essay
When I think of America, I think of freedom. We live in a country where we can do what we choose.
We can express our opinions and live our own lives. Individuals can form their own individual beliefs
and they can do what they want and pursue what they wish. They can play basketball, go to school,
get a job, have a family, buy a house, or go to church. We are free. We have opportunity to be
whatever we want to make ourselves. When you ask, what is an American? I find it no different to ask,
what is freedom? America and freedom are intertwined and this relationship is evident in American
literature.
The notion of freedom and everything relating to freedom unites all of the American literature we
have read. In Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Huck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Self Reliance, Emerson explains that our freedom to choose and our ability to think what we want
to think define what America is. I believe it is characteristic of Americans to strive for what they think
is right. In Poe s the House of Usher, Usher decided to bury his sister alive. I think this story can relate
to us today. Many people would say that America is known for persevering through rough times. I d
say the last few years have been a rough time for America, from 9/11 to now the war in Iraq.
Sometimes situations may seem unbeatable, like being trapped in a coffin, but if you fight hard
enough, like we are against the terrorists and in Iraq, you can overcome anything. American s can
overcome anything. Usher s sister was buried alive and finally broke from the coffin after a week of
struggle. Also, many of the authors we have studied describe nature in riveting detail. To them and to
me, our beautiful nature represents something more then just what you see with your eye it represents
America s freedom. In Emerson s Nature, Thorpe s The Big Bear of Arkansas, Twain s Huckleberry
Finn, Bryant s Thanatopsis, and Edwards Shadows of Divine Things, we see an apparent love and lust
of nature by the authors. The great aspects of nature represent the great aspects of America freedom.
The mountains and trees scatter in nature in pure harmony just like the American people live freely in
America. The authors had a fascination

My Experience At High School Classroom
Key Assessment Education 2130 Throughout my observation hours that I completed at South Forsyth
Middle School, I learned many things that I can apply to my classroom when I become a teacher. I
was cultured inside of the classroom to many new techniques and teaching styles that will be
beneficial for my career that is to come. I experienced the classroom in a wide variety due to the
different environments I witnessed during my time observing. Taking my experiences from the broad
array of students, I now feel more prepared for what lies ahead in my teaching career.
My time at South Forsyth Middle School gave me experience with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The
students ranged from on level art students to advanced year long students. I came across a trend of
endless opportunities within the classroom for the students. If the students came across a technique or
type of artwork that they wanted to try, the school and Ms. Wood made that happen. She had high
school teachers and college professors present their studies and beliefs to the students in order to
widen their perspectives and outlook on the art community. For example, they had the opportunity to
watch a high school teacher come and create pieces of pottery on the wheel. This can almost give
students a sense of motivation, encouraged them to look past art as they know it, and see the beauty of
art from someone else s perspective.
I have completed my field hours in a middle school environment. I observed 6th, 7th, and

1)Why Did The Philosophes Place Freedom Of Expression At
1) Why did the philosophes place freedom of expression at the center of their system of values?
The theories of the enlightenment were centered around five basic concepts: reason, science, progress,
liberty, and toleration. These lead themselves into thinking of the world in Realist terms. We must look
at the universe and understand it from what we can see. A common train of thought was that humanity
had grown far too comfortable depending on history and facts as they were retold. One no longer
thought for themselves. Progress had been constrained by social and political institutions that did not
reflect humanities natural goodness and capacity for material and moral improvement. Humans were
prone to relying on emotions rather than reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
when the discussion of impoverishment shifted towards a politico economic outcome rather than the
manifestation of a natural order, poverty was regarded as necessary. It was terrible for those forced to
live in it, but it kept the economy running by providing lots of cheap labor. Poverty also often meant
uneducated. An uneducated public was easy to control and ignorant of the effects that the aristocracy
were having. The uneducated are likely to work for low wages, even more so if they are already
impoverished. This allows the wealthy to exploit large groups of people without much effort or
money. There was an enforced idea that God had placed oneself into such a position and it was not
their job to raise themselves up, but to accept and be content. Poverty was seen as a necessary evil, a
kind of darkness that contrasted the wealth of the central civilization. For one very wealthy man, there
are many, many, poor but it is their burden to bear to balance the order of things.
3) The French Revolution destroyed the French monarchy in order to strengthen the French state.
Explain this paradox. The French polity, previously an absolute monarchy with feudal privileges for
the aristocracy and catholic clergy, underwent radical change to forms based on the enlightenment
principles of republicanism, citizenship, and rights. The revolution was aimed at the destruction of
aristocratic society, and the structure it supported in an effort to create a more autonomous

Sovereign Nation Legal Issues On Law Enforcement
Sovereign Nation Legal Issues on Law Enforcement

Mr. Courtemanche Sovereign Nation Legal Issues on Law Enforcement
When you ask an average American what is sovereign nation or sovereign citizens extremist, most
will likely answer you that they have no idea what that is. Law enforcement officers across the country
are experiencing a growing number of contacts with Sovereign Citizens. Many local, states and
federal law enforcement have been having problems with this group so call sovereign nation group.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) classifies sovereign citizens as domestic terrorists, which
are scattered across the United States of America. Sovereign citizens are anti government extremists
who believe that even though they physically reside in this country, they are separate or sovereign
from the United States (FBI, 2011). Ideology
Many sovereign citizens don t pay taxes and, they hold illegal courts that issue warrants for judges and
police officers. They clog up the court system with frivolous lawsuits and liens known as Paper
Terrorism against public officials to harass them, and they use fake money orders, personal checks,
and operate fake businesses. They believe they don t have to answer to any government authority,
including courts, the IRS, motor vehicle departments, or law enforcement and, this causes all kinds of
problems and crimes (FBI, 2011). They also commit murders, threaten judges, law

The Stop And Frisk Police Essay
The stop, question, and frisk policy qualifies as a criminal justice issue that has captured the attention
of public nationwide. Empirical research has presented evidence that the stop and frisk police is
disproportionately used against minorities, which indicates the prevalence of racial profiling. Firstly,
statistical databases have shown that the New York Police Departments have stopped and frisked
approximately 685,000 persons since 2011, with 85 percent of those individuals representing African
Americans and Latino Americans (Zamani, 2012). Many of the individuals are male. The statistical
representation, unaccompanied, speaks volumes that the racial profiling is prevalent in the practice.
The racial profiling of minorities violates the constitutional rights of the individuals that are stop and
frisked based on their skin color.
Secondly, research shown that approximately 6% percent of the stops and frisk have caused
individuals being arrested and 2% in the recovery of illegal weapons ( Report of The NYPD S , 2013).
This statistical data demonstrates how the stop and frisk policy is ineffective at achieving the objective
of removing illegal weapons off of the streets, however, it is effective at removing illegal substances
off of the streets. In many of the cases, the police officer instructs the individual to remove illegal
substances from their pockets and then arrested and convicted of a misdemeanor for having marijuana
in plain view. This is a violation of the

Examples Of Negligence In Sports
Upon being injured in his first rugby game, Jim Smith decided to sue his university for negligence. He
believed that the school did not provide him with proper medical attention upon suffering a
concussion during his game. Negligence can be defined as failing to do something that a reasonable,
prudent, and up to date person would have done under the same/similar conditions or doing something
that a reasonable, prudent and up to date person would not have done (Dougherty, Goldberger,
Carpenter, 2007, p. 187). Despite these acts being unintentional, one can seek compensation from the
courts under tort law. For a tort lawsuit to be successful, it must have all four elements of negligence:
duty, breach of duty, proximate cause, and loss. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waivers are legally binding contracts which states that the coach or whoever else is in charge is not
liable for any injuries. These hold up as defense in court, unless it is applied to gross negligence. Jim s
case files under gross negligence since the school made a conscious and voluntary disregard of the
need to use reasonable care, which is likely to cause foreseeable grave injury or harm to persons, (
gross negligence, 2008). The University made the conscious decision to not make sure that there was
medical assistance at the rugby game, knowing that some type of injury was bound to occur. Despite
the school committing gross negligence, the school still has the defense of assumption of risk. It
means that an individual recognizes that an activity comes with certain inherent risks. Inherent risks
are risks that cannot be eliminated without fundamentally altering the very nature of the activity
(Dougherty et al., 2007, p. 190). Rugby by nature is a violent contact sport, where the players have
almost no padding to protect them. The only way to remove some of the risk of it would change the
sport entirely. Given that Jim voluntarily decided to participate, was aware of the nature of the sport
what risks went along with it, and that his injury possibly could have come from the inherent risk not
the negligence, the

  • 3. Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean Proposal for Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: For human populations, particularly people in the poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food. As a result, fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic levels that are higher than those fished. For a long period of time, several human populations across the globe have continued to depend on fish as a significant source of food and nourishment, which has contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease in the global catch of fish. Nonetheless, the links between overfishing and food security have remained largely unclear and uncertain. According to the findings of research, approximately 50 percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan, Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled by the significant increase in the demand for food because of the constant increase of human population. While the practice has remained a major threat to every fish species in the ocean, it has largely contributed to the large migrations by marine mammals as they seek to get the left over fish. Since the 1950s, there has been an increasing trend in the number of unsustainable fisheries, which is an indication of the global geographic expansion of overfishing (Coll et. al., p.1). ... • 4. Media Violence and Violence in Society If television causes aggression and violent behavior, assuming that the television programming contains some violence, there should be more and more violent crime after television is available (Freedman). Many suggest the violence in media is causing violence in society but then how is it that violent crimes are actually decreasing in the United States. The violence that is occurring is actually due from the mentally ill, poor parenting, and the location of where one lives in society. Violence has actually decreased over the decades even though media has more violence than ever before. According to a report done by Lawrence W Reed with the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, by the age of 18 an American child will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence. These are astounding figures yet crime has hit a nine year low (Frieden). Because of these statistics media is not causing more crime in America. The actual correlation between being exposed to media violence and actually acting violently are not conclusive. According to Jonathan L. Freedman of the University of Toronto, The Surgeon General s Report on Youth Violence concluded that exposure to television violence causes a short term increase in aggression, but when on to say that television violence has little or no role in causing real violence. Again this is showing that there might be a little aggressive behavior caused by media violence but the long term effects are not what is causing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Skellig Symbolism In David Almond s magic realist novel Skellig, the story follows the protagonist Michael, a young boy who is facing many difficulties and challenges in his young life, the author uses a number of language devices to tell his story, including puns, metaphors and similes. However one of the most powerful devices are symbols. The author strongly uses symbols to reinforce character traits and to show the connections between characters throughout the novel. The author constantly refers to the symbols of evolution, death, birds and wings. Evolution in the novel Skellig has a strong connection to bones and skeletons these are constantly referred to when describing arthritis and Skellig. Evolution is also constantly associated with change and new beginnings. Bones play a significant role in the novel as they are a symbolism of evolution because they develop and grow. • 6. Using Structured Interview Method For Future Selection (1) Refer to Appendix and based on the data available, I would recommend that this company should use the structured interview method for future selection because the method has the highest utility compare with the other two selection methods. A higher utility indicates an increased validity of the method used, and this implies that the annual productivity of these selected applicants in average dollar value would increase thereby increasing the financial position of the company (pg.191). Structured interview method which is a standardized technique is the process of asking, collecting, and rating of the interviewees based on the information collected from them (pg.221). All the respondents are asked the same questions in a predetermined format and the essence of this interview method is to know and determine the past experiences and the qualities the interviewees are bringing into the company. When the numbers of applicants are increased to 200, the utility for structured interview increased from 95,080 to 96,680. Utility for the Mental Ability decreased from 75,120 to 73,360. The utility for the work sample decreased from 58,200 to 55,000. The structured interview showed higher validity in the selection method which implies an increase in the average dollar value of annual productivity by candidates that were selected for the positions (Pg.191); however, the utilities for mental ability and work sample decreased thereby showing decrease in average dollar value and in ... • 7. History Of Career And Technical Education Career and Technical Education has played a large role throughout the history of the United States and Ohio specifically. The legal history of Career and Technical Education in the United States and the state of Ohio has a long history dating back to the 1800s. Career and Technical Education is also at the forefront in current legal news: a bill sitting in committee and a push for more Americans to study in Career and Technical Education related fields. With Americans realizing that not everyone can or wants to attend college or university, Career and Technical Education is relevant and so is its long history in the United States and, more specifically, Ohio. Before 1862, there was really no legal history for Career and Technical Education. However, Congressman Justin S. Morrill of Vermont proposed a bill in 1857 to have federal support in agricultural and industrial education. President Buchanan did not support the legislation, so there was no action on the bill. In 1861 however, Morrill reintroduced his bill to the House of Representatives. President Lincoln later signed it in summer of 1862. This act gave public lands to build colleges for agriculture and mechanical arts in each state. Each state, within five years, had to provide a college or the state would be revoked of the grant. This set the stage clearly for the rest of the legislation in what is now known as Career and Technical Education ( Independent Action 38). The first major legislation in Ohio for Career ... Fear, the main theme of the show, followed by sacrifice is portrayed in every episode where everyone fears where are they going to end the next day, where they find themselves questioning if that is their last day, scared of losing a loved one and of course, the fear of being eaten by walkers . Sacrifice, portrayed at its highest, on life or death situations where every character feels torn between two options that may affect someone in one way or another, as well when someone will die for the safety of others. Betrayal, one of the most repetitive themes in the show that represents what will a person do to save himself/herself in a life or death situation, and in this case, each character try to build up alliances that at the end, they betray their own, which could lead to someone dying or getting hurt, depending on the situation. Leadership and hope can be put together since in the show, the main thing that a leader should do is give his/her followers hope that everything can get better, and the show portrays it every time Rick Grimes try to take matters on his hands for his group, considered as his family, hope as well, as the birth of Rick s daughter, brought a more hopeful future for the survivors. • 12. Mass Media On Teenagers The media has a strong influence on teenagers since they are mentally vulnerable and have access to various media especially visual and social. It is imperative for parents to filter the content that teenagers have access. This paper seeks to find out the effects of media on teenagers. Mass media has both negative and positive influences, and I strive to prove this claim. Online media and television have given teenagers access to health education on various diseases such as STDs, acne, and depression. The programs help the adolescents to dispel any myths about health care. Health organizations such as MayoClinic have confidential sites where teenagers are given a platform to ask any question without being judged. Youths who suffer from chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and skin ailments can join networks that provide support and the best method to handle their health. Television also has the potential to create negative and positive impacts. Although not all television programs are immoral, data has shown that the majority have scenes of violence, offensive language, and inappropriate sexuality. Such series include Empire, where the main character deals with drugs, violence and sex. Another show is Game of Thrones where the characters portray gory battle scene, foul language and sexual scenes. Television has also been shown to take teens away from their reading and studying time since they become addicted to the programs they watch (Osama 94). Television occupies time for exercises and other physical activities from teenagers. Youths who binge watch television are more likely to consume junk foods and snacks that contain high calorie intake. Since these calories are not being burned physically, there is a higher chance that these teenagers will end up being obese. Advertised foods have been shown to contain fats that surpass the recommended limit by nutritionists. The number of hours spent watching programs on television is related to an increased chance of cholesterol levels in teens. Eating disorders, especially in female teens, have been fueled by the images seen on television of thin models or characters in TV programs who have lost weight due to unconventional ways. The varied aspects of family history and resilience never entered the conversation about trauma which I carried on with myself. But after looking at the need for victims of traumatic events such as a mass shooting to get better after a traumatic event, it is reiterated over and over by research of well documented studies as to how a person s recovery progresses will depend on what resilience mechanisms have been laid down in their childhood for a given individual. The short story begins with a view of an apartment room where a woman is ironing. Her work is interrupted by a call asking for her help for understanding Emily, her first daughter. By recalling and gathering all memories between her and Emily, the narrator realizes that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and regretful about her daughter. Some platforms are aware of this and incorporate mechanisms to encourage accurate, average reviews. For example, Airbnb added a feature in 2014 to reveal host and guest reviews simultaneously to make both parties feel comfortable in leaving honest reviews without the worry of a dishonest retaliatory review. The ATB gig site will not only reveal reviews simultaneously, it will have a template for constructive feedback. • 23. On Liberty Speech Analysis This essay will explain Mill s view regarding freedom of expression and apply it to a modern concern regarding hate speech. In On Liberty, Mill argues in favor of nearly unrestricted freedom of expression in accordance with the harm principle because limiting the opinions of others hinders the marketplace of ideas or clashing of views to allow for the truth to rise to the top through refinement or exchanging false beliefs for truths. Mill explicitly states that silencing speech is an evil that robs the human race, posterity as well as the existing generation.... It robs those who disagree with these silenced opinions. Mill s view is utilitarian because minimizing speech is socially advantageous because it allows people to learn from the choices, actions, and experiences of others. Additionally, this view is utilitarian because limiting speech would lead to even worse harm than simply tolerating hateful or harmful speech. The main arguments that Mill presents in favor of his view in favor of almost complete freedom of expression. First, allowing government censorship allows for the government to act with infallibility to what is right or true. To refuse hearing opposing opinions because the government is sure the belief to be false is to assume that their certainty is absolute certainty. Instead, allowing for near unlimited freedom of expression allows for the consideration of thoughts. This allows us as citizens to evaluate and critique other government and our own governments that have been wrong in the past. By allowing for the presentation of contrary views, we as humans can be aware of past mistakes and come to know the truth. For example, allowing for Galileo arguing that the Earth revolves around the Sun allowed for correcting the false belief that the Earth is at the center of the universe. While this allowance can lead to risky behaviors, prejudices or other harms, Mill hold that regardless, it is worth these risks and challenges because this can lead to finding truths or correcting truths. Second, Mill argues that allowing for falsehoods to be spoken, even if wholly false, can have some kernels of truth that lead to truths for that issue or truths of other issues. Suppressing speech can lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Literary Analysis Of Hercules Delivering Prometheus By... Hercules Delivering Prometheus, a free standing French sculpture, now in the Art Gallery of Ontario is cast in bronze by Francois Lespingola. This highly intricate bronze sculpture is an example of French baroque art, which was created in between 1690 and 1705. The incredible creativity of this composition and the audacity of its three dimensional conception included a widely known scene from classic Greek mythology. A series of statuettes on the sculpture depict a display of Hercules freeing the chained Prometheus from an eagle that comes to pick his liver each day. Lespingola promoted these effects in grouping multiple figures, optimizing the individual prominence of each figure and integrating them into one concordant sculpture. The ... These figures have a style of idealism especially the way Hercules and Prometheus look. They are both very muscular. The muscles have defining curves, showing that the body is flexed and in action. These ideal human forms also show that the symmetry is not being equal, but the proportions of these individuals make a whole composition. Furthermore, the male figures are more human than human. They are idealized in softer cravings with smaller heads and the hair is very stylized. The movements of the male figures are emphasized in a contrapposto position. Both are counterposed and weight is shifted on a feet. These shapes come together and give the effect of how the real body looks like. Moreover, it suggests the figure s characteristics. For example, Hercules s weight is on his right foot and left foot is placed as a movement. The indication of his dynamic movement reflects his strong character. Prometheus s kneeing contrapposto position along with his anxious expression gives an insight that he is trembled with fear. The eagle s fierce eyes, sharp beak and its threatening gesture show a strong determination of defeating Hercules. The artist inlaid eyes in all figures which helps to gain more understanding of their emotions. In fact, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Animal Poaching In Zimbabwe Poaching in Zimbabwe has been a major issue in Zimbabwe since the mid 1800 s. Many of Zimbabwe s wild animals have suffered a massive decline in population due to poaching. The best way to stop the decline of wild animals in Zimbabwe is drones. Using drones will give rangers an upper hand against animal poachers by monitoring and tracking different animals and poaching zones. For the past 2 decades, Endangered animals are being killed for simple body parts tusks, bones, or pelts illegally for money. Many poaching laws have been established in Zimbabwe but none of these laws have been effective. Poaching has been illegal for hundreds of years, but it was during the Late Middle Ages that poaching became a punishable offense. During this time, the right to hunt was limited to landowners and nobility. Peasants usually did not have weapons, skills or the extra time to hunt, so in order to provide food for their families they devised another way to bring meat to their tables ( How Poaching works ). Since the middle ages people have always been buying and selling animals but as life got tougher for the poor they had to resort to killing and selling body parts of animals to gain money. In the mid 1800 s hunting was only for the wealthy and privileged but as poverty increased poaching levels did too. While hunting was reserved for the privileged, it was illegal to buy and sell wild animals. It remained illegal to do so until the mid 1800s. Gangs of poachers formed outlaw ... • 27. literature in America Essay When I think of America, I think of freedom. We live in a country where we can do what we choose. We can express our opinions and live our own lives. Individuals can form their own individual beliefs and they can do what they want and pursue what they wish. They can play basketball, go to school, get a job, have a family, buy a house, or go to church. We are free. We have opportunity to be whatever we want to make ourselves. When you ask, what is an American? I find it no different to ask, what is freedom? America and freedom are intertwined and this relationship is evident in American literature. The notion of freedom and everything relating to freedom unites all of the American literature we have read. In Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Huck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Self Reliance, Emerson explains that our freedom to choose and our ability to think what we want to think define what America is. I believe it is characteristic of Americans to strive for what they think is right. In Poe s the House of Usher, Usher decided to bury his sister alive. I think this story can relate to us today. Many people would say that America is known for persevering through rough times. I d say the last few years have been a rough time for America, from 9/11 to now the war in Iraq. Sometimes situations may seem unbeatable, like being trapped in a coffin, but if you fight hard enough, like we are against the terrorists and in Iraq, you can overcome anything. American s can overcome anything. Usher s sister was buried alive and finally broke from the coffin after a week of struggle. Also, many of the authors we have studied describe nature in riveting detail. To them and to me, our beautiful nature represents something more then just what you see with your eye it represents America s freedom. In Emerson s Nature, Thorpe s The Big Bear of Arkansas, Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Bryant s Thanatopsis, and Edwards Shadows of Divine Things, we see an apparent love and lust of nature by the authors. The great aspects of nature represent the great aspects of America freedom. The mountains and trees scatter in nature in pure harmony just like the American people live freely in America. • 28. My Experience At High School Classroom Key Assessment Education 2130 Throughout my observation hours that I completed at South Forsyth Middle School, I learned many things that I can apply to my classroom when I become a teacher. I was cultured inside of the classroom to many new techniques and teaching styles that will be beneficial for my career that is to come. I experienced the classroom in a wide variety due to the different environments I witnessed during my time observing. Taking my experiences from the broad array of students, I now feel more prepared for what lies ahead in my teaching career. My time at South Forsyth Middle School gave me experience with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The students ranged from on level art students to advanced year long students. I came across a trend of endless opportunities within the classroom for the students. If the students came across a technique or type of artwork that they wanted to try, the school and Ms. Wood made that happen. She had high school teachers and college professors present their studies and beliefs to the students in order to widen their perspectives and outlook on the art community. For example, they had the opportunity to watch a high school teacher come and create pieces of pottery on the wheel. This can almost give students a sense of motivation, encouraged them to look past art as they know it, and see the beauty of art from someone else s perspective. I have completed my field hours in a middle school environment. I observed 6th, 7th, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. 1)Why Did The Philosophes Place Freedom Of Expression At 1) Why did the philosophes place freedom of expression at the center of their system of values? The theories of the enlightenment were centered around five basic concepts: reason, science, progress, liberty, and toleration. These lead themselves into thinking of the world in Realist terms. We must look at the universe and understand it from what we can see. A common train of thought was that humanity had grown far too comfortable depending on history and facts as they were retold. One no longer thought for themselves. Progress had been constrained by social and political institutions that did not reflect humanities natural goodness and capacity for material and moral improvement. Humans were prone to relying on emotions rather than reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... when the discussion of impoverishment shifted towards a politico economic outcome rather than the manifestation of a natural order, poverty was regarded as necessary. It was terrible for those forced to live in it, but it kept the economy running by providing lots of cheap labor. Poverty also often meant uneducated. An uneducated public was easy to control and ignorant of the effects that the aristocracy were having. The uneducated are likely to work for low wages, even more so if they are already impoverished. This allows the wealthy to exploit large groups of people without much effort or money. There was an enforced idea that God had placed oneself into such a position and it was not their job to raise themselves up, but to accept and be content. Poverty was seen as a necessary evil, a kind of darkness that contrasted the wealth of the central civilization. For one very wealthy man, there are many, many, poor but it is their burden to bear to balance the order of things. 3) The French Revolution destroyed the French monarchy in order to strengthen the French state. Explain this paradox. The French polity, previously an absolute monarchy with feudal privileges for the aristocracy and catholic clergy, underwent radical change to forms based on the enlightenment principles of republicanism, citizenship, and rights. Hausman CJCU 465 August 21, 2016 Mr. Courtemanche Sovereign Nation Legal Issues on Law Enforcement When you ask an average American what is sovereign nation or sovereign citizens extremist, most will likely answer you that they have no idea what that is. Law enforcement officers across the country are experiencing a growing number of contacts with Sovereign Citizens. Many local, states and federal law enforcement have been having problems with this group so call sovereign nation group. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) classifies sovereign citizens as domestic terrorists, which are scattered across the United States of America. Sovereign citizens are anti government extremists who believe that even though they physically reside in this country, they are separate or sovereign from the United States (FBI, 2011). Ideology Many sovereign citizens don t pay taxes and, they hold illegal courts that issue warrants for judges and police officers. They clog up the court system with frivolous lawsuits and liens known as Paper Terrorism against public officials to harass them, and they use fake money orders, personal checks, and operate fake businesses. • 31. The Stop And Frisk Police Essay The stop, question, and frisk policy qualifies as a criminal justice issue that has captured the attention of public nationwide. Empirical research has presented evidence that the stop and frisk police is disproportionately used against minorities, which indicates the prevalence of racial profiling. Firstly, statistical databases have shown that the New York Police Departments have stopped and frisked approximately 685,000 persons since 2011, with 85 percent of those individuals representing African Americans and Latino Americans (Zamani, 2012). Many of the individuals are male. The statistical representation, unaccompanied, speaks volumes that the racial profiling is prevalent in the practice. The racial profiling of minorities violates the constitutional rights of the individuals that are stop and frisked based on their skin color. Secondly, research shown that approximately 6% percent of the stops and frisk have caused individuals being arrested and 2% in the recovery of illegal weapons ( Report of The NYPD S , 2013). This statistical data demonstrates how the stop and frisk policy is ineffective at achieving the objective of removing illegal weapons off of the streets, however, it is effective at removing illegal substances off of the streets. In many of the cases, the police officer instructs the individual to remove illegal substances from their pockets and then arrested and convicted of a misdemeanor for having marijuana in plain view. • 32. Examples Of Negligence In Sports Upon being injured in his first rugby game, Jim Smith decided to sue his university for negligence. He believed that the school did not provide him with proper medical attention upon suffering a concussion during his game. Negligence can be defined as failing to do something that a reasonable, prudent, and up to date person would have done under the same/similar conditions or doing something that a reasonable, prudent and up to date person would not have done (Dougherty, Goldberger, Carpenter, 2007, p. 187). Waivers are legally binding contracts which states that the coach or whoever else is in charge is not liable for any injuries. These hold up as defense in court, unless it is applied to gross negligence. Jim s case files under gross negligence since the school made a conscious and voluntary disregard of the need to use reasonable care, which is likely to cause foreseeable grave injury or harm to persons, ( gross negligence, 2008). The University made the conscious decision to not make sure that there was medical assistance at the rugby game, knowing that some type of injury was bound to occur. Despite the school committing gross negligence, the school still has the defense of assumption of risk. It means that an individual recognizes that an activity comes with certain inherent risks. Inherent risks are risks that cannot be eliminated without fundamentally altering the very nature of the activity (Dougherty et al., 2007, p. 190). Rugby by nature is a violent contact sport, where the players have almost no padding to protect them. The only way to remove some of the risk of it would change the sport entirely. Given that Jim voluntarily decided to participate, was aware of the nature of the sport what risks went along with it, and that his injury possibly could have come from the inherent risk not the negligence, the ...
