Tulane College Application Essay
I am interested in attending Tulane University because of its academic and social opportunities as well
as its location. Tulane has strong history, theatre, and dance departments. It is important to me that I
go to a university where I can receive the best possible education in the areas that interest me. I am
also interested in Tulane because it is a school where it is very easy to double major and minor. I have
a lot of interests, and I think college is the time for me to explore them. The admissions counselor I
spoke with told me that 70% of Tulane students have a minor, 33% have a double major, and some
students even have a triple major. I think this also shows that Tulane is the type of school that attracts
ambitious students with a variety of interests. Additionally, I like that the core curriculum at Tulane
allows students to investigate different areas of interests and to possibly find a new direction for
themselves. The admissions counselor I spoke to also discussed that around 1/3 of Tulane students
study abroad. This appeals to me because I would like to be able to go study theatre in Europe.
Furthermore, I have been studying Spanish for over seven years, so I am interested in study abroad in
Spain where I could be completely immersed in the language. ... Show more content on

While I am interested in sorority life, I do not want to go to a school where fraternities and sororities
dominate campus life. Since only 40% of Tulane students participate in Greek life, I think there is a
good balance. Also, since Tulane has recruitment for sororities in the Spring, there are many
opportunities for freshman to socialize and to make friend before they decide if they want to be a part
of the Greek system. While I am not a huge sports fan, I like the environment of school spirit that
sports give a university. Sports at Tulane create a feeling of school spirit without dominating student s

Pros And Cons Of American War In The Philippines
CON #1 As an ally of United States, it is not impossible to create enemies around the world that
would lead to engagement into battles.
The Philippines during 1941 was to the eyes of the Japanese Empire a perfect strategic location for
their campaign of conquest of South Eastern Asia. Not only was it a perfect place to station troops to
launch further assaults on positions like Singapore and Australia. It was also a resource rich country
which would further fuel the Japanese war machine and feed the Japanese people at home. Though
there was a substantial American Force stationed throughout The Philippines at the time, it was both
of the strategic location and resources which governed the Japanese decision to invade the islands.

Pose Character In Edgar Allen Poe s The Black Cat
Edgar Allan Poe, author of the black cat tells the story of a man who once loved life and also was
beloved by all his companions, but over time he slowly starts to change leading to a man That has no
compassion for others and is willing to kill for his own selfish reasons. What does Pose character
represents? the other side of humans that we over time have tried to tame as we tame animals. That
other side that I am talking about is animal part that we all have tried to lock deep down our soul but
we cannot seem to contain it. That is the animal nature we have to be the alpha who has control over
others and the that alcohol that has made the protagonist have mood swing that changed the man.
Allen Poe begins his life as in orphan when both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proves that the character knows that what he did was an evil deed but contued to do it One
morning, in cool blood, I slipped a noose about its neck and hung it to the limb of a tree; hung it with
the tears streaming from my eyes, and with the bitterest remorse at my heart; hung it because I knew
that it had loved me, and because I felt it had given me no reason of offence; hung it because I knew
that in so doing I was committing a sin a deadly sin that would so jeopardize my immortal soul as to
place it if such a thing were possible even beyond the reach of the infinite mercy of the Most Merciful
and Most Terrible God . This shows that he is willing to kill any living thing that he loves just because
he can. The way that he describes the insadent shows that he knew what he was doing, but he did not
stop that shows how wicked he is. He believes that everything is replaceable For months I could not
rid myself of the phantasm of the cat; and, during this period, there came back into my spirit a half
sentiment that seemed, but was not, remorse. I went so far as to regret the loss of the animal, and to
look about me, among the vile haunts which I now habitually frequented, for another pet of the same
species, and of somewhat similar appearance, with which to supply its place . What horrified me the
most is that he would dream of the mad deed that he has done and felt no remorse for his action on the
contrary, he believed that he had done the right thing by killing the cat. He also started missing the cat
that he had killed and started to look for a replacement he put no value on a life and replaced it just as

Accounting- Ida Impairment Essay
Ida U.S. Operations:
Ida Inc. (Ida) is a manufacturing company with operations in the United States and Spain. Ida is a U.S.
subsidiary of a U.K. entity and prepares its financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP for
reporting to its U.S. based lender and in accordance with IFRS in reporting to its parent. Ida owns and
operates a commercial building that at year end 2010 represents a a cash generating unit (CGU) under
IFRS and a long lived asset classified as held and used under U.S. GAAP. One of Ida s competitors
sold its commercial building for an amount significantly less than its asking price in December 2010.

Ida should measure the impairment loss as the amount that the carrying value of the building exceeds
its fair value (ASC 360 10 35 17). Ida s impairment loss for the commercial building is $600,000 (the
carrying amount of the building $4,500,000 minus its fair market value 3,900,000).
Parent Company (IFRS)
* According to IAS 36.12 Ida should test for impairment when the asset s market value has declined.
Given the information provided that the competitor s sold their building for less than the asking price
suggests to management that the fair value of the building may have declined. An impairment loss
should be reported, If, and only if, the recoverable amount of an asset is less than its carrying amount,
the carrying amount of the asset shall be reduced to its recoverable amount. That reduction is an
impairment loss (IAS 36.59). IAS 36.74 states that the recoverable amount of a cash‐generating unit is
the higher of the cash‐generating unit s fair value less costs to sell and its value in use. Ida s
recoverable amount would be its value in use of $4,000,000. Therefore Ida should report to its parent
an impairment loss of $500,000 (Carrying value minus the Value in use).

Micro controller (AT89C51) In this project work we are using AT89C51 micro controller. This micro
controller plays a major role. Micro controllers were originally used as components in complicated
process control systems. However, because of their small size and low price, Micro controllers are
now also being used in regulators for individual control loops. In several areas Micro controllers are
now outperforming their analog counterparts and are cheaper as well. A Micro controller consists of a

Naturalism As A Genre Of Naturalism
Naturalism as a genre depicts commonplace happenings dictated by powers larger than humans, such
as nature or society. As Phillip Barrish puts it, Literary works ... traditionally identified with
naturalism depict characters whose lives are controlled or determined by immense, impersonal forces
that the characters themselves can barely understand, let alone effectively resist (116). Obviously, not
all naturalist literature is created equal; different authors choose to focus on different aspects of the
genre. Specifically, this study will be exploring the differences between divergent interpretations of
naturalism: the first, a story controlled by the forces of nature, and, the second, a story manipulated by
the power of societal structures.
First, let s take a closer look at these two branches of naturalism. The naturalism based in nature
involves both the nature of the human body, including things such as hunger and death, and the
influences of the natural world itself, such as hurricanes and snowstorms. This varies significantly
from the form of naturalism that roots itself in the authorities of society such as the economy and
social class limitations. While these two subdivisions of naturalism are perceivably unique from one
another, Barrish explains that naturalist writers frequently blur together the natural and social orders
(116). That is to say, there is a fine line between the two that is repeatedly smudged by authors. Jack

Authors Rosario, Schrimshaw, and Hunter in this article, documents the very high rates of
homelessness among lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth. However, this study is primarily focuses on the
psychological symptoms and disparities of gay youth and how they outstandingly differentiate from
their homeless heterosexual counterparts. After further investigation they had begun to examine
potential mediators between the two such as, friends, family, childhood, and environmental factors.
These findings suggest the need for interventions to reduce stress and enhance social support among
LGB youth with a history of homelessness in order to reduce psychological symptoms.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youths and black youths are more likely to experience
homelessness more than, cisgender, and white peers. This study examines whether perceived LGBT
racial micro aggressions and perceived racial micro aggressions are associated with depressive
symptoms and suicidality in black youths experiencing homelessness. This study used a cross
sectional design with structured face to face interviews of 89 black youths (ages 16 to 24 years)
experiencing homelessness. Depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts and acts are common
experiences among black youths and other races dealing with homelessness. The perception of micro
aggressions targeted at sexual or racial minority statuses is associated with depressive symptomology.

I Am On The Clock Right Now
As I neared Bryant Street, I shifted the box with car parts. I had to get them to that guy up the block as
quickly as I could. There wouldn t be anything to smile about if I got fired for being too slow. Music
was blaring from a radio perched on top a phone booth down the block, where a group of men leaned
against cars in front of the barbershop. I rushed past them, trying to balance the car parts in the box
with one hand while rubbing my other hand; trying some of the sticky grease off of it. I spotted Sam
and Maxie and crossed toward them. Hey, Sam. Maxie. Hey, Bucky, she replied, You finally got a free
afternoon? Hardly. No, girl, I m on the clock right now. Just dropping off some parts to a guy up the
block. I pointed my thumb over my shoulder. I suddenly remembered that I had to talk to Stick about
that. I m glad I ran into you, Sam. Do you a favor, will ya? Tell Steve to stop by the shop tomorrow.
We gotta talk. I sped up my speaking, It s real important. I tried to catch him earlier, but I missed my
shot. Yeah, no problem, Bucky. I ll tell him. I grinned, relieved. Thanks man, I gotta go. Get back to
work fore they dock me. I slapped his shoulder. Catch ya later. I jogged off down the sidewalk and
then slowed to wave at some friends coming out of the mini grocery carrying bottles of soda. One of
them called out and I turned partway, still jogging. You coming tonight, man? Can t. Working, I called
back. I waved and dashed toward the corner.

The Rationale Behind Nursing Interventions
Introduction:
Mrs. Pink, aged 75 was admitted to the orthopaedic ward after suffering a fall at home, resulting in an
intracapsular fracture of the hip at the femoral neck. Mrs. Pink has a history of cancer and cardiac
diseases and has severe rheumatoid arthritis. Due to ageing patients putting a great deal of strain on
the health care system, the incidences of hip fractures in the elderly are a major concern and requires
careful consideration regarding treatment. Known as a major cause of disability in the elderly, hip
fractures and their subsequent need for surgery result in chronic pain and an altered quality of life
(Strike, Sieber, Gottschalk Mears, 2013). Although important to improve a patient s quality of life and
physical independence, pain related to a total hip replacement (THR), also known as hip arthroplasty
(HA) can lead to delays in ambulation, longer hospital stays, poor functional outcomes and quality of
life. The purpose of this essay is to identify the rationale behind nursing interventions provided to post
operative THR patients as well as the pathology of a femoral neck hip fracture and their procedure for
assessment and diagnosis.
Pathology:
The pathology of a hip fracture relates to the science, or aetiology of the femoral neck fracture in
question and risk factors specific to hip fractures in the elderly are related to ageing. The most
common cause of a hip fracture is physical trauma or impact, such as when stress or pressure placed

Edward Kennedy Ellington Research Paper
Great American Composers
Over the course of history, the arts have played an important role in aspects of people s lives. More
specifically, music is something that has been around for centuries and will continue to play a part in
shaping people into who they are. There have been numerous talented composers in America, but
some worth mentioning are Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin.
Though music has been around for generations, during the 1900 s, Duke Ellington was a famous
composer in the Americas. Edward Kennedy Ellington was born on April 29, 1899 in Washington
D.C. to a religious family; his mother was a Baptist and his father was a Methodist ( Duke, n.d.).

He also won numerous Grammy Awards as well as the Spingarn Medal from the National Association

music until he died from lung cancer in May of 1974. He will always be remembered for the daring
innovations that came to mark his music the strange modulations (changing from one key to another)
built upon lush melodies that ramble into unexpected places, the unorthodox (untraditional)
construction of songs.... ( Duke, n.d.).
Not only was Duke Ellington well known for his involvement in jazz during the 1900 s, George
Gershwin was also popular during that time. Gershwin was born in Brooklyn in 1898 to a family of
immigrants. He left school at the age of 15 in order to work as a song plugger (a pianist that
demonstrated songs) on Tin Pan Alley (Hingley, 2013). He soon began to write his own pieces, and his
first published song was When You Want Em, You Can t Get Em ; although this song was composed

Trauma And Trauma In Literature
CHILDREN AND TRAUMAA STUDY OF SELECT TESTIMONIO LITERATURE OR
NARRATIVE Literature has allowed us to explore beyond the limits of this world and also the human
psyche. Among that are certain literary works which is capable of posing a social challenge by setting
out to explore the pain, suffering and trauma through self narratives, testimonies and flashbacks. My
thesis will throw sufficient light on the self narrated traumatic experiences of children under various
oppressing situations. Trauma is an emotional shock caused by a deeply distressing or disturbing
experience, it involves feelings and emotions. The consequences of a trauma may be long term or
short term depending upon the catastrophic effects it left on the victim. Trauma caused by

Testimonial writings prove themselves as a classic expression of trauma as the writers can retrieve
themselves as active participants and witnesses of the history they went through. Moreover
Testimonial narratives make the reader to get acknowledged of the prevailing social challenges,
injustices and the need to render a helping hand to those who suffer. A new literary method that
considered traumatized children was developed in American literature towards the end of 19th
century. A keen study on those traumatized children paralleled the research on child development
studies, child psychology, PTSD and many other theories. This new tradition gained its significance
when children started to narrate their own traumatic experiences through testimonials and self
narratives. Danielle Bernock, an American author has famously quoted that: Trauma is personal. It
does not disappear if it is not validated. When it is ignored or invalidated the silent screams continue
internally heard only by the one held captive. When someone enters the pain and hears the screams

Alcohol Alcoholism And Alcohol Abuse Essay
Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are different, although they have several connected characteristics,
including genetics, how you were raised, social environment, and emotional health. Some of the
following are indicators of alcohol abuse e.g., craving alcohol, having tried to quit in the past, but
could not, spending longer time drinking than you expected, or continuing to drink even though it
causes trouble with family or friends. An alcoholic is someone who has no control over alcohol and is
unable to live a normal or healthy life; consequently, it causes a psychological and physical
dependence upon alcohol. Alcoholics typically experience physical withdrawals when not drinking.
Both disorders have a significant attribute for risky behavior e.g., drinking and driving or unsafe sex.
Alcohol distresses all parts of the body, particularly the brain, pancreas, liver, and heart.
Hereditary factors attribute to whether the individual has a propensity towards alcohol abuse, while
studies indicate that there is a greater risk factor if there is a family history of substance abuse.
Lineages can transport a gene that makes individuals more susceptible to becoming an alcoholic. This
is only part of the calculation; the other takes account our environment Our hereditary behaviors
interact with our environment to form the basis of our decisions. (www.addictioncenter.com) some
people are more sensitive to stress and use alcohol as a way of soothing their self.

Summary Of Globalization
Globalization Textbook Readings (Chapters 19 20) Chapter nineteen elaborates on the big picture of
globalization and discusses the many definitions; contested meanings; and both cultural and economic
aspects of the term. In this chapter, the authors argue that defining the term globalization is difficult,
and stress the importance of understanding the spatial and temporal aspects that parallel its
geographical scope. Furthermore, this chapter emphasizes that globalization is more than
understanding global, national, regional, and local relationships; it is also critical to consider the
uneven development, networks, flows, and interconnectedness in the world. In Key Concepts of
Geography (KCG), chapter twenty discusses aspects of globalization that relate to the physical and
environmental sciences. The chapter emphasizes four key themes related to this: (1) the technologies
for enhancing scientific knowledge; (2) the role physical geographers and environmental scientists
have in the politicization of the environment; (3) the relationship of physical geography with science
and related activity; and (4) the historical and contemporary nature of physical geography. Chapter
twenty also mentions the globalization syndrome and highlights the relationship between politics,
environment, and development; the participation of geography within modern conservation efforts and
historical resource exploitation; and the difficulties that geography has had with concepts which
integrate a wide range of different knowledge of the world. Both chapters address the broadness of
globalization, but chapter twenty stresses that it is not a term which has been frequently applied in the
environmental and physical sciences and it certainly has a place there. In contrast to this, chapter
nineteen places much emphasis on the social aspects of globalization. While this is a notable
difference, both chapters nineteen and twenty do acknowledge temporal and spatial factors, and also
the interconnectedness that globalization often attempts to define.

Examples Of Suspense In Stranger Things
Suspense is when the author makes the reader, or audience excited or scared for what might happen in
the story, or even what will happen to the character next in the story. Suspense might even be
something you see or hear that will make you have questions about what will happen next. If there is a
cliffhanger at the end of a story, it will leave you with questions wondering what will happen to the
characters next. The mood, tone, setting, emotions of character, sound and sight might affect how the
story is suspenseful. We all enjoy watching suspenseful movies and reading stories, because they are
exciting. It leaves us with questions that the author won t have the answers to in the end, so the author
gives us as the audience, the chance to make up their own ending to the story or movie. The author
will give you clues throughout the story, to help you fill in questions you might have in the end. This
makes it more exciting for the reader and the audience because we get to engage with the characters in
the book or movie. The tv series, Stranger Things, is about 4 kids who have to fight off monsters in a
little town in Indiana. This TV show is a great example of suspense, and it shows it effectively
because, of Foreshadowing, Dilemma, and Dramatic Irony presented throughout the show. With just
using those four examples, Stranger Things is a great example of suspense. The example,

Effects Of Anti Babesia Vaccine On The Livestock Industry
4. Discussion Babesia has a worldwide economic importance due to the enormous losses it causes for
the livestock industry. A subunit antigen attracted the attention for the development of anti Babesia
vaccine (Brown et al., 2006). In this respect, HSPs have emerged as prospective immunostimulatory
components for vaccine development (Suto and Srivastava, 1995; Suzue and Young, 1996; Zugel and
Kaufmann, 1999). Therefore, we investigated the characterization of a member of the HSP 70 family
from B. bigemina. The sequence of BbigHSP 70 was found in the genome sequence database of B.
bigemina through the blast search with homologue sequences of B. bovis and B. gibsoni. The
sequence of BbigHSP 70 from the Argentina strain was identified by sequencing. Gene has 2 copies in
most apicomplexan, but we did not analyze the copy number in B. bigemina; this will be done in a
future study. Phylogenetic analysis of the amino acid sequence showed that all intraerythrocytic
protozoan parasites, including Plasmodium spp., make one group located outside the paraphyletic
group containing eumycetes and vertebrates. Since the HSP 70 of the parasites and hosts do not seem
to be closely related, they likely evolved separately. The H SP 70 of Babesia, Theileria and
Plasmodium seem to be closely related; therefore, the function of HSP 70 might be similar among
these parasites. Jie et al. (1996) suggested that HSP 70 perform functions critical to the survival of B.

unrealistic fantasy love and romance and impractical ideals of women. It has become a popular culture
phenomenon in the Western countries, as well as Australia; bringing in remarkable revenue for media

Matilda Crabtree, 14, was shot and killed by her father when she jumped from the closet and yelled
BOO to scare her parents; her last words were, I love you, daddy. (Rottenberg 87) Laws that regulate
carrying concealed weapons (CCW) have been wildly debated in the California and the US. There
have mainly been two different types of laws. One is a type of legislation known as may need laws,
which issues licenses to people who are in absolute need of carrying a concealed weapon. The other is
known as shall use laws, which is a lot more lenient for people and makes it easier for the general
public to get a gun. This law gives state authorities to issue concealed weapon licenses to any adult
who does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the FBI, there were 49 handgun murders for every one civilian justifiable homicide in
1994 (Fisherman). In fact, carrying concealed weapons makes you more vulnerable. Researcher
Arthur Kellerman, Director of the Center for Injury Control at Emory University, warns, If the bad
guys know more people are carrying guns, they just might shoot first and reach for the wallet later.
(Sojourners)
Legalizing concealed weapons would make sense if the public supported more lenient CCW laws. An
April 1995 study, Illinois Statewide Survey on Public Attitudes Toward Concealed Handguns, found
that more than 73% of Illinois residents do not think that citizens should be able to carry concealed
weapons, which also happens to be one of the Mafia capitals of the world. A Michigan survey of 600
state residents found that 71% opposed laws that make it easier for people to carry concealed
weapons. (Kirchner)
There are many arguments that gun clubs and the NRA try to reassure society about concealed
weapons. Many say, society is safer if criminals do not know who is armed; but if that is what society
thinks, then why conceal weapons in the first place? It could be argued that concealed weapon laws
might make criminals more violent; criminals might anticipate a potential victim to be armed and
shoot first. Another argument gun lovers say is, an armed society is a polite society. Surveys taken

hardware and software resources of a computer system. Basically an OS is a set of libraries or

The kernel maintains a list of free pages for each zone. Each zone has its own page allocator that
allocates and frees memory as needed. Mac OS X is a little different as compared to the older MAC
OS virtual memory. Similar to Windows OS, when Mac OS X needs memory it pushes something
currently not needed into a swap file for temporary storage (OSX Daily, 2010). The swap file concept
is also known as virtual memory. Mac OS X, because it is built on the UNIX core, relies heavily on
swap files and paging for general memory and cache management. Virtual memory, also known as
secondary memory or secondary storage, typically refers to hard disk storage and is much slower than
main memory. Advantages of virtual memory include; running more than one application at a time, the
ability to run larger programs with less RAM, applications may launch faster because of file mapping,
and the user does not have to buy more main memory (RAM). Disadvantages of virtual memory
include; applications run slower than if loaded into main memory, increased time to switch between
applications, less hard drive space for the users use, and some may argue reduced system stability is
inherent to virtual memory. Linux s virtual memory system is responsible for the memory visible to
each process. The memory system creates virtual memory on demand and swaps pages in and out of
main memory to the disk as needed. Virtual memory is divided into regions called backing. Backing is

Work Assignment
As requested, here is a brief synopsis of the work I ve been doing since I resigned my full time
employment at GreenPointe (GP) as of December 31, 2016.
Most of my work has been for three clients, all of which I ve had connections with previous
employment. Please understand that I have a formal confidentiality agreement with one client and am
cautious about divulging too much detail with the others out of professional courtesy. I am also quite
interested in keeping our conversations tight as I want, and need, to make sure my clients don t think I
might be considering abandoning them without proper discussions and notice per our agreements.
That being said, GP has been a strong client of mine and the work I do for them is quite diverse. ...

In this role, I expanded my reach further into the public sector and not for profit organizations by

A Brief Summary Of The Giver By Lois Lowry
Jonas. An interestingly vague character. As the story starts we get almost no background. Yet as the
story progresses we learn more, and more about his life. Past, Present, and Future. He never knew his
true parents, and was essentially adopted by his current family. He has one sister and two parents. He
is 11, I believe, at the beginning of the story, and is tentatively awaiting the ceremony of the 12 s. The
coming of age ceremony in his society. Being supposedly chosen by an anonymous council, becoming
essentially the keeper, or more accurately the receiver, in his (presumably post apocalyptic)
civilization. To fulfil this calling, he must go through pain, trials, threats, and many people lurking,
and watching. After many months of training he unearths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

failure to thrive) in a storm he steals the baby away from the daycare only a day before the baby was
scheduled to be released. And he sets out on his amazing, and epic journey. Slowly yet surely he
makes his way through forest, desert, and snowy mountains. Yet halfway through his travels he
realizes he is going to run out of food. As a true Samaritan he cuts his food intake down to only the
bare minimum, so that the baby may be able to eat and survive. As time goes by Jonas has stopped
eating at all and is giving everything to his brother. As he unknowingly ascends the final mountain his
body begins to fail. As he arrives at the summit, he looks down and with everything he has left, he
takes one step. A step full of agony, and despair and as he completes his step he fumbles and collapses.
Falling down the mountain he desperately tries to protect his brother... Hours later he wakes at the
bottom of the mountain, with his brother six feet away from him. Full of adrenaline he runs to his

Negative Capability within Kubla Khan Essay
There are a myriad of critical theory lenses that can be applied and utilized to closely observe pieces
of literature. One of these theories is John Keats s Negative Capability theory which consists of an
idea of ...when man is capable of being in uncertainties, Mysteries, doubts, without any irritable
reaching after fact reason... (Keats 968). Ultimately, this signifies that in poetry the emphasis be
placed on the significance of inquisitiveness and the asking of questions of the life and scenery around
one s self, rather than placing emphasis on strongly searching for these answers. This theory can be
applied to a multitude of works, but for these sakes and purposes what will be critiqued is Samuel
Coleridge s Kubla Khan. In a subtle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is there more? Since the dream was forgotten, there is an obvious abrupt stop to the work, which can
never be truly completed. It is even stated that, ...the Author has frequently purposed to finish for
himself what had been originally... but the to morrow is yet to come (Coleridge 460). So, readers are
told from the start that this work is not finished, which instantly sparks a curiosity of what was the
whole dream? Whilst the poem sparks this interest for knowledge within the reader, this need is never
sated within the reader due to the fact that none of their questions can be answered. Due to the dream
like essence of this poem, and the fact that the dream itself ...passed away like the images on the
surface of a stream which a stone had been cast... there are no answers offered (Coleridge 460). The
parts of the dream that faded away for the speaker may have contained the answers to these questions,
but unfortunately neither the reader nor the speaker will ever know. So, this poem instills this sense of
inquisitiveness, but it does not go against the theory of Negative Capability due to the fact that it does
not offer these questions that arise upon reading. Additionally, what makes this embody Negative
Capability so well is the fact that it does not even seem like the work is attempting to answer these
questions. It provides the reader detail after detail about this dream world, yet it does not offer
anything to the readers concerning

Porphyria Research Paper
Porphyria is a disease that affects the body s red blood cells mutating them to where the hemes
enzyme is nonexistent (Daempfle, 2016). The hemes job is to accumulate oxygen in the blood cells, so
when it does not store the hemes the porphyrins amass causing issues. These issues or symptoms
manifest as extreme hair development, hunger for blood, photosensitivity, skin abrasions, receding
gum lines, and worst of all it impairs organs (Daempfle, 2016). Due to the body s failure to produce
hemes blood transfusions are required for affected individuals. So, we know what the disease is and
that it is inherited, but how is it inherited?
Although the majority of disease are contained in recessive alleles, porphyria occurs in dominant
alleles as well (Daempfle, 2016). The two forms of this disease are autosomal dominant pattern (AIP),
and autosomal recessive patterns (congenital). The recessive pattern of porphyria may lay dormant
within the carrier, and would require another donor with the recessive patterns before their offspring
could exhibit the symptoms. However, if there are homozygous dominant or heterozygous alleles
possessing porphyria then the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

numerous cases of porphyria would have been possible. This is especially true if the disease
progressed without the knowledge of transfusions and it is likely that an individual could have went

opinion, that the origins of vampire and werewolf tales likely started from a lack of understanding of
porphyria in olden

muscle degeneration. It has been a medical problem for many years. In particularly Duchenne

progressive in children neuromuscular disorders (MDA, 2015). DMD affects approximately 1 in 3600
live male births throughout the whole world (MDA, 2015). DMD can cause or create an array of
difficulties for diagnosed patients depending on how bad the patient s case of DMD is. This is all as a
result of the faulty or lack of the dystrophin gene, making it incredibly difficult for these patients to do
simple activities like walking and running.
Currently there is no cure for DMD, but certain exercise therapy and muscle building medicines to

Three Different Types Of Conflicts In Short Stories
Types of Conflicts in Short Stories
Short story writing literature is a very important art and has been around for long time. Every short
story will consist of five different elements. These are as follows: Setting, Plot, Character, Point of
View and Theme. In this essay, we are going to discuss three of these stories and try to look at them
from different perspectives. We will be considering the elements of the stories and how the writers
expressed that. We are going to discuss the different phases and changes that each character in these
three different stories from the beginning until the end with some highlight on the events and conflicts
that lead to these changes. We will start with A Letter from Gaza by Ghassan Kanafani, then After
Twenty Years by O. Henry and last will be The Scarlet Ibis by J. Hurst. I will give a summarizing
overall conclusion at the end of this essay.

Essay On The Massachusetts Bay Colony
The Massachusetts colony, otherwise known as the Massachusetts Bay colony was originally settled
by Puritans in 1630. They were plagued by the religious persecutions of King Charles I and the
Church of England. Weary from this dogged torment, they left England under the leadership of John
Winthrop. These original colonists quickly established many small towns in the name of high religious
ideals and strict societal rules. They also planted churches, spread Puritanism and religiously educated
the masses, as these were some of their goals. A utopian society that other colonies looked upon with
high regards was the ultimate goal. The charter that gave the Puritans freedom to leave the England

Strong religious views that coincided with a reverence for family and accountability for one s own
actions made for a strict lifestyle in the colony. The minister was considered to be the most important
man within the community. To have spoken out or fallen asleep during a four hour sermon was
thought to be unacceptable and a harsh punishment was handed out. Another example of the rigidness
of the colony was that if a person were to miss a sermon without just cause, they were to be placed in
a pillory and have their ear nailed to it. Simplicity was a key element in worship as there were no
candles, religious ritual, or decoration. Emphasis was solely placed on the sermon. Puritans did not
participate in traditional holidays as it was thought to be sacrilegious. Dramatic plays along with any
form of gambling were banned also. Oddly enough, drinking was allowed but no toasts could be made
as it was considered to be wasteful. Another core belief was the family had a social order . The father
was the head of the household, with mother as the helper (as stated in the Bible) and children were the
lowest in the hierarchy. Obedience of the children in the home was expected and demanded. A just
love of the children was to discipline the children justly. If the children were obedient then the
austerity and goodness of the mother were seen to be her saving grace in the hereafter. However, if the

  • 2. Tulane College Application Essay I am interested in attending Tulane University because of its academic and social opportunities as well as its location. Tulane has strong history, theatre, and dance departments. It is important to me that I go to a university where I can receive the best possible education in the areas that interest me. I am also interested in Tulane because it is a school where it is very easy to double major and minor. I have a lot of interests, and I think college is the time for me to explore them. The admissions counselor I spoke with told me that 70% of Tulane students have a minor, 33% have a double major, and some students even have a triple major. I think this also shows that Tulane is the type of school that attracts ambitious students with a variety of interests. Additionally, I like that the core curriculum at Tulane allows students to investigate different areas of interests and to possibly find a new direction for themselves. The admissions counselor I spoke to also discussed that around 1/3 of Tulane students study abroad. This appeals to me because I would like to be able to go study theatre in Europe. Furthermore, I have been studying Spanish for over seven years, so I am interested in study abroad in Spain where I could be completely immersed in the language. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I am interested in sorority life, I do not want to go to a school where fraternities and sororities dominate campus life. Since only 40% of Tulane students participate in Greek life, I think there is a good balance. Also, since Tulane has recruitment for sororities in the Spring, there are many opportunities for freshman to socialize and to make friend before they decide if they want to be a part of the Greek system. While I am not a huge sports fan, I like the environment of school spirit that sports give a university. Sports at Tulane create a feeling of school spirit without dominating student s social ... • 3. Pros And Cons Of American War In The Philippines CON #1 As an ally of United States, it is not impossible to create enemies around the world that would lead to engagement into battles. The Philippines during 1941 was to the eyes of the Japanese Empire a perfect strategic location for their campaign of conquest of South Eastern Asia. Not only was it a perfect place to station troops to launch further assaults on positions like Singapore and Australia. It was also a resource rich country which would further fuel the Japanese war machine and feed the Japanese people at home. Though there was a substantial American Force stationed throughout The Philippines at the time, it was both of the strategic location and resources which governed the Japanese decision to invade the islands. (Chen, 2004) According to the Chinese Ministry of the Interior in 1947, China makes the largest claim in the South China Sea where it can be found in the nine dash line map. This map (nine dash line) served as the basis for the Declaration on China s Territorial Sea, which was declared and made by the Government of Chinese in the year 1958 and arranged territorial claim to a majority of he islands in the South China Sea. Moreover, in the year 2009, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But since we are not and since we re facing battles on various fronts, we must have the humility that we need America s assistance. We don t think favoring the VFA is tantamount to giving up our sovereignty. It is us who benefit from this military agreement. America can always trade and establish military agreements with our neighboring countries. It is independent and it is still one of the most powerful nation in the world. The people who blindly and staunchly believe that it is the US that benefits more from our country simply wanted to flatter themselves. We must admit that America made crucial mistakes in history, but we still believe that it is mankind s last best ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pose Character In Edgar Allen Poe s The Black Cat Edgar Allan Poe, author of the black cat tells the story of a man who once loved life and also was beloved by all his companions, but over time he slowly starts to change leading to a man That has no compassion for others and is willing to kill for his own selfish reasons. What does Pose character represents? the other side of humans that we over time have tried to tame as we tame animals. That other side that I am talking about is animal part that we all have tried to lock deep down our soul but we cannot seem to contain it. That is the animal nature we have to be the alpha who has control over others and the that alcohol that has made the protagonist have mood swing that changed the man. Allen Poe begins his life as in orphan when both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proves that the character knows that what he did was an evil deed but contued to do it One morning, in cool blood, I slipped a noose about its neck and hung it to the limb of a tree; hung it with the tears streaming from my eyes, and with the bitterest remorse at my heart; hung it because I knew that it had loved me, and because I felt it had given me no reason of offence; hung it because I knew that in so doing I was committing a sin a deadly sin that would so jeopardize my immortal soul as to place it if such a thing were possible even beyond the reach of the infinite mercy of the Most Merciful and Most Terrible God . This shows that he is willing to kill any living thing that he loves just because he can. The way that he describes the insadent shows that he knew what he was doing, but he did not stop that shows how wicked he is. He believes that everything is replaceable For months I could not rid myself of the phantasm of the cat; and, during this period, there came back into my spirit a half sentiment that seemed, but was not, remorse. I went so far as to regret the loss of the animal, and to look about me, among the vile haunts which I now habitually frequented, for another pet of the same species, and of somewhat similar appearance, with which to supply its place . What horrified me the most is that he would dream of the mad deed that he has done and felt no remorse for his action on the contrary, he believed that he had done the right thing by killing the cat. He also started missing the cat that he had killed and started to look for a replacement he put no value on a life and replaced it just as you replace a piece of crumbled paper. Killing the thing that he most loved lead him to loss remorse for others and ferder drove him to be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parent Company (IFRS) * According to IAS 36.12 Ida should test for impairment when the asset s market value has declined. Given the information provided that the competitor s sold their building for less than the asking price suggests to management that the fair value of the building may have declined. An impairment loss should be reported, If, and only if, the recoverable amount of an asset is less than its carrying amount, the carrying amount of the asset shall be reduced to its recoverable amount. That reduction is an impairment loss (IAS 36.59). IAS 36.74 states that the recoverable amount of a cash‐generating unit is the higher of the cash‐generating unit s fair value less costs to sell and its value in use. Ida s recoverable amount would be its value in use of $4,000,000. Therefore Ida should report to its parent an impairment loss of $500,000 (Carrying value minus the Value in use). As Phillip Barrish puts it, Literary works ... traditionally identified with naturalism depict characters whose lives are controlled or determined by immense, impersonal forces that the characters themselves can barely understand, let alone effectively resist (116). Obviously, not all naturalist literature is created equal; different authors choose to focus on different aspects of the genre. Specifically, this study will be exploring the differences between divergent interpretations of naturalism: the first, a story controlled by the forces of nature, and, the second, a story manipulated by the power of societal structures. First, let s take a closer look at these two branches of naturalism. The naturalism based in nature involves both the nature of the human body, including things such as hunger and death, and the influences of the natural world itself, such as hurricanes and snowstorms. This varies significantly from the form of naturalism that roots itself in the authorities of society such as the economy and social class limitations. While these two subdivisions of naturalism are perceivably unique from one another, Barrish explains that naturalist writers frequently blur together the natural and social orders (116). That is to say, there is a fine line between the two that is repeatedly smudged by authors. Jack London s To Build a Fire and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rationale Behind Nursing Interventions Introduction: Mrs. Pink, aged 75 was admitted to the orthopaedic ward after suffering a fall at home, resulting in an intracapsular fracture of the hip at the femoral neck. Mrs. Pink has a history of cancer and cardiac diseases and has severe rheumatoid arthritis. Due to ageing patients putting a great deal of strain on the health care system, the incidences of hip fractures in the elderly are a major concern and requires careful consideration regarding treatment. Known as a major cause of disability in the elderly, hip fractures and their subsequent need for surgery result in chronic pain and an altered quality of life (Strike, Sieber, Gottschalk Mears, 2013). Although important to improve a patient s quality of life and physical independence, pain related to a total hip replacement (THR), also known as hip arthroplasty (HA) can lead to delays in ambulation, longer hospital stays, poor functional outcomes and quality of life. The purpose of this essay is to identify the rationale behind nursing interventions provided to post operative THR patients as well as the pathology of a femoral neck hip fracture and their procedure for assessment and diagnosis. Pathology: The pathology of a hip fracture relates to the science, or aetiology of the femoral neck fracture in question and risk factors specific to hip fractures in the elderly are related to ageing. • 14. Alcohol Alcoholism And Alcohol Abuse Essay Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are different, although they have several connected characteristics, including genetics, how you were raised, social environment, and emotional health. Some of the following are indicators of alcohol abuse e.g., craving alcohol, having tried to quit in the past, but could not, spending longer time drinking than you expected, or continuing to drink even though it causes trouble with family or friends. An alcoholic is someone who has no control over alcohol and is unable to live a normal or healthy life; consequently, it causes a psychological and physical dependence upon alcohol. Alcoholics typically experience physical withdrawals when not drinking. Both disorders have a significant attribute for risky behavior e.g., drinking and driving or unsafe sex. Alcohol distresses all parts of the body, particularly the brain, pancreas, liver, and heart. Hereditary factors attribute to whether the individual has a propensity towards alcohol abuse, while studies indicate that there is a greater risk factor if there is a family history of substance abuse. Summary Of Globalization Globalization Textbook Readings (Chapters 19 20) Chapter nineteen elaborates on the big picture of globalization and discusses the many definitions; contested meanings; and both cultural and economic aspects of the term. In this chapter, the authors argue that defining the term globalization is difficult, and stress the importance of understanding the spatial and temporal aspects that parallel its geographical scope. Furthermore, this chapter emphasizes that globalization is more than understanding global, national, regional, and local relationships; it is also critical to consider the uneven development, networks, flows, and interconnectedness in the world. In Key Concepts of Geography (KCG), chapter twenty discusses aspects of globalization that relate to the physical and environmental sciences. The chapter emphasizes four key themes related to this: (1) the technologies for enhancing scientific knowledge; (2) the role physical geographers and environmental scientists have in the politicization of the environment; (3) the relationship of physical geography with science and related activity; and (4) the historical and contemporary nature of physical geography. Chapter twenty also mentions the globalization syndrome and highlights the relationship between politics, environment, and development; the participation of geography within modern conservation efforts and historical resource exploitation; and the difficulties that geography has had with concepts which integrate a wide range of different knowledge of the world. Both chapters address the broadness of globalization, but chapter twenty stresses that it is not a term which has been frequently applied in the environmental and physical sciences and it certainly has a place there. In contrast to this, chapter nineteen places much emphasis on the social aspects of globalization. While this is a notable difference, both chapters nineteen and twenty do acknowledge temporal and spatial factors, and also the interconnectedness that globalization often attempts to define. Examples Of Suspense In Stranger Things Suspense is when the author makes the reader, or audience excited or scared for what might happen in the story, or even what will happen to the character next in the story. If there is a cliffhanger at the end of a story, it will leave you with questions wondering what will happen to the characters next. The mood, tone, setting, emotions of character, sound and sight might affect how the story is suspenseful. We all enjoy watching suspenseful movies and reading stories, because they are exciting. A subunit antigen attracted the attention for the development of anti Babesia vaccine (Brown et al., 2006). In this respect, HSPs have emerged as prospective immunostimulatory components for vaccine development (Suto and Srivastava, 1995; Suzue and Young, 1996; Zugel and Kaufmann, 1999). Therefore, we investigated the characterization of a member of the HSP 70 family from B. bigemina. The sequence of BbigHSP 70 was found in the genome sequence database of B. bigemina through the blast search with homologue sequences of B. bovis and B. gibsoni. The sequence of BbigHSP 70 from the Argentina strain was identified by sequencing. Gene has 2 copies in most apicomplexan, but we did not analyze the copy number in B. bigemina; this will be done in a future study. Phylogenetic analysis of the amino acid sequence showed that all intraerythrocytic protozoan parasites, including Plasmodium spp., make one group located outside the paraphyletic group containing eumycetes and vertebrates. Since the HSP 70 of the parasites and hosts do not seem to be closely related, they likely evolved separately. The H SP 70 of Babesia, Theileria and Plasmodium seem to be closely related; therefore, the function of HSP 70 might be similar among these parasites. Jie et al. • 26. Porphyria Research Paper Porphyria is a disease that affects the body s red blood cells mutating them to where the hemes enzyme is nonexistent (Daempfle, 2016). The hemes job is to accumulate oxygen in the blood cells, so when it does not store the hemes the porphyrins amass causing issues. These issues or symptoms manifest as extreme hair development, hunger for blood, photosensitivity, skin abrasions, receding gum lines, and worst of all it impairs organs (Daempfle, 2016). Due to the body s failure to produce hemes blood transfusions are required for affected individuals. So, we know what the disease is and that it is inherited, but how is it inherited? Although the majority of disease are contained in recessive alleles, porphyria occurs in dominant alleles as well (Daempfle, 2016). The minister was considered to be the most important man within the community. An ARP is a network protocol that maps together a network layer address and a data link layer hardware address. For example, an ARP is used to resolve IP addresses to their corresponding Ethernet address (Leyden, 2007). For a café latte attack to be successful, the cyber criminal does not have to be in the same area as the user but can also be in a remote location to intercept the WEP key. A cyber criminal can take advantage of the message modification flaws in the 802.1WEP architecture and the shared key authentication by flooding a network with encrypted Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) requests. A café latte attack functions by using a bit flipping technique that modifies the Media Access Control (MAC) address and Internet Protocol address (IP address) of a user s computer which is collected when gratuitous ARP requests are sent from the cyber criminal.
