2. Emergency? Emergencies / disasters can strike anyone, anytime, anywhere. Definitions make it easy to understand… Any emergency that is beyond the normal response resources of the entity & would require the response of outside resources and assistance for recovery. An occurrence or threat to the entity with severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from natural or human causes. A suddenly occurring or unstoppable developing event that, Claims loss of life, suffering, loss of valuables or damage to the environment Overwhelms local resources or efforts Has a long term impact on social or natural life that is always negative in the beginning

3. Purpose of ERP (Emergency Response Plan) To assess current programs or to develop, implement and maintain a program to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster & emergency

Definitions Emergency Management Program: A program that implement the mission, vision and strategic goals and objectives as well as the management framework of the program and organization Damage assessment: Estimation or determination of the effects of the disaster on human, natural resources, property…etc Impact analysis (Business impact analysis, BIA): A management level analysis that identifies the impact of losing the entity’s resources. The analysis measures the effect of resource loss over time in order to provide data for taking decisions on hazard mitigation and business continuity planning.

5. … Definitions Entity: Govt. agency, private or public company, partnership, non-profit organization or other organization that has emergency management responsibility. Incident Management system: The combination of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures and communications within the organization with responsibilities for the management of assigned resources to effectively accomplish stated objectives pertaining to an incident. Business continuity program: An ongoing process supported by top management to ensure that all the necessary steps are taken to identify the impact of potential losses, maintain possible recovery strategies / recovery plans and ensure continuity of services through personnel training, plan testing and maintenance Mutual Aid Agreement: A pre-arranged agreement developed between two or more entities to provide assistance to the parties of the agreement

8. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment The entity shall identify the hazards, the Probability & Severity with reference to the existing history & potential. Hazards should be considered in depth that include, but shall not be limited to, Natural events (flood, earthquake, extreme heat / cold…etc) Technological events (Building collapse, power failure, communication…etc) Human events (Terrorism, sabotage…etc)

10. Importance of Emergency Plan An emergency plan address the actions of employers and employees those should be taken to ensure employee safety from emergencies. These plans should be comprehensive and address all hazards specific to your work area and department. It should be in writing and reviewed annually.

Direction, control & coordination Communication & Warning (agencies, mutual aid parties) Operations procedure Address all the systems installed for emergency communication. 13. Continuity of Operations Consideration of day-to-day operations continuity, in case of any emergency / major disaster. The core areas must be identified to prepare appropriate plans & this is possible only in RA (Risk Assessment)

14. Do you know? Several companies those were involved in 9/11/2001 attack continued operations in seconds of the attack & this happened due to operation plans which were well-planned and practiced before the tragedy occurred. Be ready with plan!
