Introduction:-
• Electrospinning is a useful and efficient technique to produce ultrafine
polymeric fibers.
• Outstanding properties make the polymer nanofibres to be good
candidates for many applications, which extend to filtration, tissue
engineering, wound dressings, protective clothing, drug delivery,
cosmetics, electronic and semi-conductive materials.
• It is versatility, cost efficiency and potential to be used in a wide range
of applications, resulting in an outstanding potential for
nanotechnology research.
What is Electrospinning
Electrospinning is a fiber production method which uses electric force
to draw charged threads of polymer solution or polymer melts up to
fiber diameters in the order of some hundred nanometers.
Electrospinning shares characteristics of both electrospinning and
conventional solution dry spinning of fibers.
Why we call the name of Electrospinning
Mainly two mechanism is used in this process :
Used high electric voltage
Spinning of polymer
So this is called name of Electrospinning.
Nanofibres:-
Nanofibres are fibres with diameter in the Nanometer range.
It can generated from different polymers like
Natural polymers:- Collagen, Cellulose, silk fibroin, keratin,
Polysaccharides, Chitosan and Alginate etc.
Synthetic polymers:- Poly(lactic acid), Polycaprolactone,
Polyurethane and Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) etc.
History of Electrospinning: -
• The term electrospinning was derived from “electrostatic spinning” and it is
an old technique that dates back to 1897.
• John Zeleny Cooley field the first patented the process in 1900.
• Electrospinning process gained more popularity in 1980’s due to interest in
nanotechnology and increase in use of ultrafine fibers and fibers in
submicron and nanometer scale.
• In 1981, Larrondo and Manley investigated electrospinning process using
melting Polymer. Companies such as Donaldson Company and Freudenberg
are using electro spinning process in their air filtration products since the
last two decades.
ELECTROPINNING PROCESS: -
• Mainly three components: -
1. Needle of small diameter.
2. High voltage supplier.
3. Metal collecting screen.

Electrospinning parameters:-
It is very important to understand the electro spinning working
parameters, as they effect fiber morphologies.
Process Parameters: –
1. Electric field
2. Tip to collector distance
3. Flow rate
4. Hydrostatic pressure
5. Humidity and temperature
Solution Parameters: –
1. Viscosity
2. Conductivity
3. Molecular weight
4. Surface tension
Process Parameters: –
Characteristics:-
• Different type of instruments used:
1. Scanning Electron Microscope:- To determine the Morphology &
Diameter of fibres.
2. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy:- To determine the
chemical change(Reference & fibres).
3. Thermogravimetric Analysis & Differential Scanning
Calorimetry:- To determine the Thermal transition and
Temperature.
4. X-Ray Diffraction:- To calculate the Crystallinity & Amorphous
Region of the fibres.

Conclusion:-
• Electrospinning is a simple method to produce nanofibres both in
laboratory and industrially. Because of its wide application such as
medicine, filtration, textile, etc. this technique has become one of the
most acceptable methods for producing nanofibres.
• Electrospinning is a simple, unique, versatile, and cost-effective
technique that is widely used for the fabrication of non-woven fibers.

  • 4. Introduction:- • Electrospinning is a useful and efficient technique to produce ultrafine polymeric fibers. • Outstanding properties make the polymer nanofibres to be good candidates for many applications, which extend to filtration, tissue engineering, wound dressings, protective clothing, drug delivery, cosmetics, electronic and semi-conductive materials. • It is versatility, cost efficiency and potential to be used in a wide range of applications, resulting in an outstanding potential for nanotechnology research.
  • 5. What is Electrospinning Electrospinning is a fiber production method which uses electric force to draw charged threads of polymer solution or polymer melts up to fiber diameters in the order of some hundred nanometers. Electrospinning shares characteristics of both electrospinning and conventional solution dry spinning of fibers.
  • 6. Why we call the name of Electrospinning Mainly two mechanism is used in this process : Used high electric voltage Spinning of polymer So this is called name of Electrospinning.
  • 7. Nanofibres:- Nanofibres are fibres with diameter in the Nanometer range. It can generated from different polymers like Natural polymers:- Collagen, Cellulose, silk fibroin, keratin, Polysaccharides, Chitosan and Alginate etc. Synthetic polymers:- Poly(lactic acid), Polycaprolactone, Polyurethane and Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) etc.
  • 8. History of Electrospinning: - • The term electrospinning was derived from “electrostatic spinning” and it is an old technique that dates back to 1897. • John Zeleny Cooley field the first patented the process in 1900. • Electrospinning process gained more popularity in 1980’s due to interest in nanotechnology and increase in use of ultrafine fibers and fibers in submicron and nanometer scale. • In 1981, Larrondo and Manley investigated electrospinning process using melting Polymer. Companies such as Donaldson Company and Freudenberg are using electro spinning process in their air filtration products since the last two decades.
  • 9. ELECTROPINNING PROCESS: - • Mainly three components: - 1. Needle of small diameter. 2. High voltage supplier. 3. Metal collecting screen.

  • 12. Electrospinning parameters:- It is very important to understand the electro spinning working parameters, as they effect fiber morphologies. Process Parameters: – 1. Electric field 2. Tip to collector distance 3. Flow rate 4. Hydrostatic pressure 5. Humidity and temperature Solution Parameters: – 1. Viscosity 2. Conductivity 3. Molecular weight 4. Surface tension
  • 14. Characteristics:- • Different type of instruments used: 1. Scanning Electron Microscope:- To determine the Morphology & Diameter of fibres. 2. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy:- To determine the chemical change(Reference & fibres). 3. Thermogravimetric Analysis & Differential Scanning Calorimetry:- To determine the Thermal transition and Temperature. 4. X-Ray Diffraction:- To calculate the Crystallinity & Amorphous Region of the fibres.
  • 15. Applications of electrospun fibers in different sectors:- Filtration Biomedical Protective clothing Affinity Membrane Drug delivery Wound healing Electro spun Fibers
  • 16. APPLICATIONS: - Polymer Electrospun in solution Solvent Perspective Application Polyamide 6,6 Formic acid Protective clothing Polycarbonate Dimethyl formamide: tetrahydrofuran (1:1) Protective clothing, Electret filter Polyacrylonitrile Dimethyl formamide Carbon fibre Collagen Hydrochloric acid Wound healing, tissue engineering Polyaniline Chloroform Conductive fiber Silk/PEO blend Silk aqueous solutions Biomaterial scaffolds Polystyrene Toluene Enzymatic biotransformation Catalyst Cellulose Acetate Acetone, Acetic acid, Membrane
  • 17. Conclusion:- • Electrospinning is a simple method to produce nanofibres both in laboratory and industrially. Because of its wide application such as medicine, filtration, textile, etc. this technique has become one of the most acceptable methods for producing nanofibres. • Electrospinning is a simple, unique, versatile, and cost-effective technique that is widely used for the fabrication of non-woven fibers.
