Mobile has become the primary communication tool for many business professionals, including a majority of executives under the age of 40. In early 2014, the landscape in which businesses operate changed forever when Internet usage on mobile devices exceeded PC usage. Nine-two percent of executives own a smartphone they use for business. Eighty-six percent of executives use their tablet and 72 percent use their smartphone to conduct research for products or services for the business by which they’re employed. Two-thirds of small businesses say they wouldn’t be able to survive without mobile technology. More than 50 percent of small businesses use mobile for remote work. Small businesses are increasingly reliant on mobile apps for day-to-day operations. Three-quarters of small businesses report they use mobile apps. The most popular app usage (in rank order) is for GPS/navigation, social media marketing, document management, location-based services, time management, travel and expense tracking, debit/credit payments in the field, and conferencing. Whether the day-to-day focus is business management, marketing, sales, SEO (search engine optimization), social media, advertising, software development, or customer relationship management, the mobile device is increasingly becoming the dominant tool for work and communication. As a result, it should become a chapter-by-chapter topic in every business communication classroom by 2015.

This presentation previews the important points you should know about mobile business communication in the midst of today's mobile revolution. Mobile communication, and mobile connectivity in the larger sense, is changing the way business communicators plan, create, and distribute messages. Mobile devices are overtaking PCs as the primary digital communication tool for millions of consumers, employees, and executives, and businesses that don’t get mobile-friendly in a hurry will fall behind. For business communicators, the shift to mobile involves much more than the constraints of small screens and new input technologies. The ability to reach people anywhere at any time can be a huge advantage, but the mobile communication experience can also be a major challenge for senders and receivers alike. It requires new ways of thinking about information, message structures, and writing styles. With the notion of radical connectivity, for example, many communication experiences are no longer about “batch processing” large, self-contained documents. Instead, communication is taking on the feel of an endless conversation, with recipients picking up smaller bits of information as needed, in real time, from multiple sources. There are a variety of helpful resources for designers (e.g., books, blogs) that describe best practices for data visualization. While these resources often provide useful recommendations, they sometimes fail to offer explanations about how these visual representations support human cognition and perception. For example, why should we provide time-series trends, limit the use of color, and strive for visual interpretations of values? What is it about human attention, memory, and situation awareness that make some data visualization techniques more effective than others? This presentation will give an overview of some best practices of data visualization and will provide a discussion of why they benefit human perception and performance. Paul Derby is a Senior Experience Designer within the Honeywell User Experience design studio. Paul has a PhD in experimental psychology (human factors) from Texas Tech University. At Honeywell, Paul focuses on UX research and design within the process industry (e.g., oil/gas, petrochemical, etc.). Currently, Paul is leading multiple UX efforts to improve data visualization products within this domain.

Education remains a severely unpolished domain for the application of human factors principles; although human factors methods and theories thrive in their application within both the learning and training domains. Continued efforts are needed to increase educational outcomes from the human-system interaction perspective. This paper shall continue to investigate how to apply constructs and theory from within the related human factors, human-computer interaction, and usability fields to the domain of instructional design. This paper intends to place human factors, human-computer interaction, and usability measurement methods among those used to evaluate cognitive load for the benefit of instructional design, following a new quantitative model for cognitive load. This effort shall assist in increasing collaboration between the fields of human factors and education, and make a significant contribution to cognitive load theory measurement methods. The goal of universal design for learning is to proactively value diversity such that sup- ports are embedded into instructional materials before a student needs them. ABSTRACT: Lecturing and instruction to students at university has traditionally been based on qualifications, experience and position of academics within ones department or college. The higher the level and more advanced the subject then the most experienced lecturers are traditionally selected for that task. Visiting lecturers are never asked to teach basic mathematics or science, they are to share their experience and enlighten the students from a vast knowledge and history. This paper reviews and discusses Kano’s model with Quality Function Deployment related to customer satisfaction and compares if the traditional approach is in keeping with university practice. Furthermore, it argues that industry has concepts and ideas that can be more proactive if applied to an educational environment where students’ demands are ever increasing and their expectations are becoming higher. If universities are to improve student-learning experiences then novel and successful techniques are needed. One such approach is discussed in this research paper to find better ways to improve student satisfaction.

Information management has traditionally been the job of the IT department, but the responsiveness required of business operations these days makes it imperative that top management takes responsibility for information quality from the business viewpoint rather than seeing it as a solely technological exercise. It is the management’s task to define what information it needs to run the business successfully, when the information is needed and what its quality criteria should be. 2.Evaluate the level of impact of IT / enterprise architecture on information management (e.g., the flow of information throughout the company / organization, etc.) within a company or industry of your choice. Information technology (IT) is dramatically changing the business landscape. Although organization cultures and business strategies shape the use of IT in organizations, more often the influence is stronger the other way round.
