Analyze Learners: My classroom is a group of 4th graders. There are twenty students
total consisting of eleven girls and nine boys. Regarding ethnicity, the class contains two
Muslims, three Jewish, and two African Americans.

State Objectives: My students will explain and describe different holiday traditions from
different parts of the world through lecture and by reading a variety of holiday stories.
Also, since my classroom has children from different cultural backgrounds, they will
learn from each other by discussion of what holiday traditions they have in their own
home. After we have discussed the holidays, each student will do a small presentation
on the holiday of their choice, but not one they personally celebrate. My class will have
mastered learning about different traditions within a week and a half with 95%
accuracy.

Select Methods, Media, and Material: One method I chose was lecture. During this
time, I will use pictures, video/music clips, and music to help with teaching my class the
different holiday traditions. I would use online resources and whatever books I find
useful to assist me. The children will be reading a variety of holiday stories from books
that I have found from either my classroom library or the local library in town. When
the class discusses what traditions they have in their own home, they will be prompted
to take short notes while the other students are talking. For their presentations, the
class will be allowed library time and guided computer research time.

Utilize Media and Materials: I will read and review daily about the holidays we are
discussing. I will recap on important characteristics I want them to remember. I will
have the computer set up and handouts with important lecture points, so as I speak,
they can follow along. I will prepare the class at the beginning of the lesson by
explaining that each holiday a student celebrates is very important to that individual and
we will respect everyone’s customs. Throughout this week, the class will have decided
on their holiday that they want to present.

Require Learner Participation: As an introduction before my lecture I will ask the class
what holidays they know and small details about them and write them on the board for
them to read and revise. During my lectures, they will be taking small notes. At the end
of my lecture, we will add more to the board with the help of their participation. The
class will be discussing what holidays they celebrate and what traditions they have in
their families throughout the week. We will be taking guided research time on the
computer to help with their reports they will be presenting.

Evaluate and Revise: I will evaluate the students’ knowledge by our daily discussions and
recaps. I will require them to answer the questions I prompt them with throughout the
week. I will also assess their learning by their ending presentations. They must have
good details and must be able to describe their chosen holiday with some enthusiasm
and confidence.
