ASSURE
Analyze Learners
This unit is for the general fourth grade class geared toward the average learner.
Students range from ages 9 to 10 years, also none of the students have learning
disabilities but they are culturally diverse. The majority of the students are Caucasian
along with few Muslims and African Americans. There are also few children from the
Jewish descent. Students will need an average reading comprehension level of 3.8.
State Objectives
Students will get in small groups to do research on different cultures’ holiday
traditions. They will create a PowerPoint about their holiday that they will present to the
class. The PowerPoint will include how the holiday is celebrated, stories about the
holiday, while also incorporating games and songs that may be relevant to the holiday of
certain cultures, and bringing in items that represent certain holiday traditions by the end
of 2 weeks with 90% accuracy.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials
Students will use PowerPoint. I will provide the materials for the games and items
that can be used during those holidays. I will also provide a worksheet that will stand as
an outline for the information the students need to find.
Utilize Media and Materials
Students will use PowerPoint to make a presentation to present to the class to tell
them about the holiday traditions of their culture. I will provide materials for the games
that are relevant to the holiday of their choosing, as well as items that can be used during
those holidays.
Require Learner Participation
I will ask the class questions about the other students’ presentations the different
holiday traditions, and well as reviewing with them throughout the two weeks about the
traditions of each culture.
Evaluate and Revise
I will evaluate by making sure the class learns the information throughout the
time by reviewing with them repetitively. I will ask questions about each of the holiday
traditions discussed and see which holidays the students enjoyed learning about most,
along with the students writing a paragraph about the things they enjoyed most
throughout the assignment, something new they learned, and their favorite tradition to
learn about besides the one that they celebrate.
