ASSURE Assignment
A-Analyze Learners: There are 20 students in the fourth grade class split into 11 girls, and 9
boys. There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
S-State Objectives: My students will be able to describe the holiday traditions of Christmas by
the end of the week long unit at an accuracy of 90% by watching videos, participating in
computer activities, and by listening to and reading a book about Christmas.
S-Select Methods, Media, and Materials: On Monday and Wednesday the students will watch
two videos about Christmas. The videos will show the typical Christmas traditionsand who and
why certain people believe in Christmas. On Tuesday the students will go to the computer lab
and participate in an online tutorial about Christmas. On Thursday the students will listen to a
book about Christmas, and on Friday the students will independently read a book of their choice
from the classroom library about Christmas.
U-Utilize Media and Materials: I will talk to the students each day prior to their activity to give
them background knowledge. The online computer activity can only be done on Tuesday
because that is the only time the computer lab is available, but I will check to make sure before I
take the students there. All other materials such as the Christmas videos and books are available
in the classroom. I will check the videos before the students view them to make sure they play
properly.

2. R-Require Learner Participation: The students will watch the videos, and after that they will
have a class discussion on their traditions and if this is what they do or if they celebrate a
different holiday. If a student does celebrate a different holiday they may inform others of their
traditions. The students must do the online tutorial which involves asking other students around
them questions. The students will listen to the teacher read a book about Christmas to them and
have a group discussion afterwards. The students will also read a Christmas book independently
and share to others what they found interesting about their book.
E-Evaluation and Revision: If the computer lab would not be open, the students will listen to
three different Christmas songs and have a group discussion on what they mean.
