Analyze Learners: My classroom is a group of 4th
graders. There are twenty students
total consisting of eleven girls and nine boys. Regarding ethnicity, the class contains two
Muslims, three Jewish, and two African Americans.
State Objectives: My students will explain and describe different holiday traditions from
different parts of the world through discussion, web quests, podcasts, YouTube, and
making their own webpage on a specific holiday I want them to elaborate on.
Select Methods, Media, and Material: One method I chose was discussion. During
discussion time, the children will talk about what holidays they celebrate in their own
home, what other holidays they have heard about, and they will be free to ask their
fellow students questions about the holidays they celebrate. While discussing with the
class, I will prompt the students to take notes on these holidays to write down whatever
they find interesting. I will create a few different podcasts for the class to listen to that
incorporate stories I have found about several different holidays. I will read these
stories and make comments wherever I feel necessary. I will have these podcasts free
to access at any time so that the children can go back and get information if needed. I
will generate a web quest that the students will do in order to research the different
holidays. There will be a question section on the web quest that the students have to
answer while researching the links I have given them. A rubric will be made in order to
assess how each student did answering questions. With YouTube, I plan on using
different videos that involve holiday music, stories about the holiday, why it is
celebrated, where the holiday originated, etc. As a final project to the lesson, I will
assign a different holiday to each group of students (5 groups of 4). The students must
create for me a simple webpage that displays pictures that help represent the holiday,
music they may find that is sang or played, videos that are relevant to the holiday, and
also information on their given holiday that they have learned through the discussions,
web quests, podcasts, and YouTube. Since there is a different range of ethnicities in the
class, I will be sure to give them a holiday they are more unfamiliar with in order for
them to learn information that is new to them.
Utilize Media and Materials: I will read and review daily about the holidays we are
discussing. I will recap on important characteristics I want them to remember. I will let
them openly ask me questions, and I will be asking them questions as well. I will refer
back to the videos and web quest. When the webpages are finished, the students will
bring them up on the Smart board and present them to the class.
Require Learner Participation: As an introduction before my lecture I will ask the class
what holidays they know and small details about them and write them on the board for

them to read and revise. During my lectures, they will be taking small notes. At the end
of my lecture, we will add more to the board with the help of their participation. The
class will be discussing what holidays they celebrate and what traditions they have in
their families throughout the week. We will be working on the web quest and listening
to the podcasts throughout, and also watching helpful YouTube videos. While doing
these things, they will be able to make comments or ask questions in which we will do
more researching if needed.
Evaluate and Revise: I will evaluate the students’ knowledge by our daily discussions and
recaps. I will require them to answer the questions I prompt them with throughout the
week. I will also assess their learning by their web quest answers and ending
presentations. They must have good details and must be able to describe their chosen
holiday with some enthusiasm and confidence.
