A-Since I am going to be teaching holiday traditions to a class with 2 Muslims, 3 Jews,
and 2 African Americans I realize that I cannot just teach the common American holiday
traditions because a small portion of my class does not celebrate all of those traditions. I
need to also teach the common holiday traditions of Jews, Muslims, and African
Americans to find a common ground between all of my learners and the material.
S- Through pictures, videos, and online class research 100% of my class will learn 4
holiday traditions of Americans, 4 of Jews, 4 of Muslims, and 4 of African Americans by
the end of 3 weeks.
S- In order to teach this class of 4th graders several holiday traditions I am going to need a
projector because I want to show them real life examples of different cultural holiday
traditions through videos. I also want to pass around pictures of a holiday tradition and
have my students match it to the correct holiday so they can have something to hold and
look at. Lastly I will need a computer lab so I can divide my class up into groups and
have them search 3 facts of a holiday tradition I give them. I also plan to assign the
holiday traditions to groups that are not familiar to that holiday. That way the students
will learn something new about a different culture other than their own.
U- The students will first come in and I will have the 4 holiday traditions of the 4
different cultures on the board. We will watch short clips and I will pass pictures around
and then we will go to the computer lab to do research.
R- My learners will participate by doing online research and telling the class what they
found.
E- I will evaluate my material that I use often by making changes as needed and assessing
my students along the way by asking each one of them questions about the material to see
what they understand.
