This unit plan aims to teach 19 second grade students about wildlife found on the seven continents. Over the course of a week, students will be split into groups and research one continent, creating a poster with pictures and facts about animals native to that area. Each day will focus on 1-2 continents, and technology like videos and guided internet research will supplement lectures and books. The goal is for all students to recognize different types of animals and describe their habitats on each continent by the end of the week.

2. The Learners
 My
class is a group of 19 second graders: 9
boys and 10 girls. 3 children are African
American, and 2 children are Hispanic.

3. Main Objective

My students will recognize and describe different types of wild life
found in the seven continents of Earth. They will locate the
continents on a globe and tell me what animals live where and give
small details about their habitats such as weather they endure and
the food the animals eat. The students will participate in small
groups and create a poster board of a continent I give them. They
are to provide on the poster pictures they find and small facts.
Students will do this with the help of my lecturing, using guided
research online, and science magazines/books found in the library.
This lesson will last a week, and students will have a 100% success
rate.

5. Use of Technology


As a class, we will watch and discuss videos and
pictures I find of animals in their habitats. We will use
this technology to help give a visual of what the
environments are like in each continent.
The students will have guided internet research time to
read about their continent and the wildlife residing there.
