How Did The October Revolution Affect The Bolsheviks
After overthrowing the Provisional Government and forming the Sovnarkom socialist government in
the October Revolution (1917), the Bolsheviks were hampered by problems that arose over social,
political and economic factors, however to consolidate their power, they used means of sabotage and
appeasing the population. Many decrees were published to placate the masses, such as the Decree on
land and the Decree on Workers Control, to control the economic situation. Politically, the Bolsheviks
formed the Cheka to expose and investigate all counter revolutionary and criminal activities. What
sparked the consolidation of power was the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly.
Economically, the Bolsheviks set decrees based on land and factories to ... Show more content on

The Bolsheviks were concerned about their abilitiy to remain in control. This is because the October
Revolution (1917) came too late to prevent the elections of the All Russian Constituent Assembly
from going ahead in November as planned. The voting (12 15 November 1917) occurred and the
results dismayed the Bolsheviks. Although they had won 175 seats in the assembly, they were
outvoted by nearly two to one by the SRs who won 370/707 seats and had the majority with 52%.
Lenin was worried about the results and believed that they had no need of an assembly because to
hand over power to the Constituent Assembly would again be to compromise with the malignant
bourgeoisie. With this mentality in mind, Lenin urged the Bolsheviks to dissolve the Constituent
Assembly. This occurred on 5 January 1918 when, after a long day of negotiations and disagreements
between the Bolsheviks and Left SRs and Mensheviks and Right SRs, the meeting ended at 5am.
When the delegates arrived at 5pm for the reconvened session, they found that the Tauride Palace was
locked and guarded by Bolshevik troops who presented them with a decree declaring that the
Constituent Assembly has been dissolved. The Bolsheviks believed that the machine gun became for
them the principle instrument of political persuasion, (Richard Pipes) which outlined their motives
behind dissolving the assembly. This contributed to formation of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist
Republic (RSFSR), who formally came into being (19 July 1918), which allowed the Bolsheviks to
remain firmly in power. Thus, concluding that the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly allowed the
Bolsheviks to establish the RSFSR, which ultimately consolidated their power at that

Candy Corn Research Paper
While there are hundreds of types of candy on Halloween, candy corn is one of the most well known.
Candy corn is a type of candy that replicates a kernel of corn and is most popular around the time of
Halloween. While it is not an official day dedicated to candy corn, the day that is said to be The
National Day of Candy Corn is October 30. Being that this is the day before Halloween, a lot of
people consider it a Halloween candy. Candy corn is a marshmallow type of candy. The candy comes
in a lot of different colors and flavors, which usually correspond to a specific holiday. A survey was
done by the National Confectioners Association, and it was found that there is thirty five million
pounds of candy corn made a year. This is equal to 9 billion pieces of candy corn. While candy corn is
a very popular candy, there is a lot more to be known about candy corn then its popularity around

Sugar is by far the most prominent ingredient and with around 12 grams of sugar per serving (about 7
pieces), candy corn is pretty bad for you (Leah Bolton). Corn syrup is also very unhealthy. Corn syrup
is a type of sugar so there is not much nutrition in it and it also has been associated with diabetes.
Along with the high amounts of sugar in candy corn, artificial food coloring is very bad for one s
health. Some people believe that food colorings are carcinogenic dyes and can lead to a variety of
diseases. On the other hand, corn starch is not extremely unhealthy, unlike the rest of the ingredients.
Although corn starch contains a lot of calories, it can help lower blood pressure and can also provide
energy. Even with these two positive effects of corn starch, it does not make candy corn any better to
eat. It does not effect the candy corn nutritional value greatly, but the high calorie count in corn starch
only makes it worse and adds more

The Impact Of Fast Fashion On Business Environment
Introduction
The continually increasing globalization in the world has linked many countries together and the
borders have become inconspicuous. Many firms cooperate in a global market, which leads to an
increased amount of transnational corporations acting in a global surrounding (Douglas Wind, 1987).
In the fashion industry, the business environment is especially competitive and firms have to adjust
their business practices rapidly such as products and launching time of each collection on the basis of
the demand of current market (Lowson, King Hunter, 1999). Companies in the fashion industry like
ZARA, Topshop and H M have emerged a new trend fast fashion that combines two main
characteristics: short lead times and trendy design products (Passariello,2008 ; Rohwedder Johnson,
2008). However, fast fashion leaves behind some issues, which are not beneficial to environmental
protection and human costs. In fast fashion industries, it requires companies to complete missions in a
short time, some fast fashion companies use unethical acts in order to complete producing on time
which may result in environmental issue and appears unfair labour practices. In addition, Luz (2007)
pointed out that globalization provided fast fashion industries a chance to produce clothes at lower
prices so that they can sell clothes with a cheaper price. This result in many customers considers fast
fashion clothes to be disposable. Therefore, this essay will first explain what is fast

Portfolio Theory
PORTFOLIO THEORY
Let us begin our discussion on Portfolio Theory with an example of two investments (assets or
securities) Ace and Bravo. Their return expectations are given in the table below. You will notice that
both Ace and Bravo are risky investments because they do not offer a certain return. You can begin by
comparing the expected return and risk of Ace and Bravo:
State of Probability Return
Economy of occurrence Ace Bravo
Boom 0.2 +20 15
Growth 0.6 +5 +5
Recession 0.2 10 +25
1. What kind of a correlation do you observe between the two securities? 2. Calculate the expected
return and standard deviation of both Ace and Bravo. Interpret the results.
Expected Return = E(R) = ∑ ri.pi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Portfolio expected returns are a weighted average of the expected returns of the constituent
investments. If the two investments are A and B, with a being invested in A and (1 a) in B, then
[pic]
Portfolio standard deviation is less than the weighted average of the standard deviation of the
constituent investments (expect for perfectly +vely correlated investments where it is the weighted
average). The risk of a portfolio is measured by its standard deviation and calculated as:
[pic]
Covariance means the extent to which the returns on two investments move together. It is related to
correlation coefficient, but can take on any ve or +ve value.
Let us learn the above concepts with the help of a solved example:
Let there be two shares A and B, with the following returns for alternative economic states:
|State of Economy |Probability |Returns on A |Returns on B |
|Boom |0.3 |20% |3% |
|Growth |0.4 |10% |35% |
|Recessions |0.3 |0% | 5%

White Noise Religion
Don DeLillo s novel White Noise explores the relativity of religion in the modern world by
conceiving a world in which religion is entirely changed. Traditional aspects of religion, specifically
Christianity, are rarely, if at all, present in this novel. Does DeLillo believe that religion is relativity in
our modern society? Or is he pushing the boundaries by creating a distorted reality in which American
culture is the primary religion? This question is initially exemplified in White Noise when it states: It s
not what I believe that counts. It s what you believe (318). This paper will analyze White Noise s
introduction and examination into religion; in an attempt uncover an answer to the question, is
American culture the only relative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack distances himself from traditional religion when he states: Watching children sleep makes me feel
devout, part of a spiritual system. It is the closest I can come to God (141). By stating this, Jack
identities traditional religion as an obscure practice that he has no access to. Modern society proves
not only unconquerable but also unconditionally opposed to the practices and ideals of traditional
religion, which encourages humans that it is possible to believe in a higher power. Even the clergy,
who are supposedly the most devout followers of religion, only pretend to believe. In turn, the clergy s
acceptance of religion exaggerates and evolves into a form of resigned impersonation. This notion
becomes evident when Jack discusses religion with Sister Hermann Marie: To abandon such beliefs
completely, the human race would die. This is why we are here. A tiny minority. To embody old
things, old beliefs... If we did not pretend to believe these things, the world would collapse (318). Jack
s absurd encounters with the clergy, illustrate DeLillo perspective that traditional is a laughable
illusion. Religion is no longer seen as something revered and adored. Even the clergy s connection to
God is not highly emphasized; there is a clear gap between traditional religion and its relativity in our
modern

The Grimm Brothers Essay
The Grimm Brothers
Any good fairy tale may captivate a child s (or adult s) mind, but few could argue that, to be truly
enchanting, a tale needs great illustrations. Two of the most influential fairy tale tellers in history were
the German Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. Both very intelligent scholars, they knew how to
spin a tale in the most effective way possible. However, they had plenty of work just dealing with the
tales text, so in the area of illustration, they let their younger brother Ludwig take over, beginning with
the second edition of their fairy tales.
The fifth child of six in the Grimm family, Ludwig, who was always called Louis, did not necessarily
follow in the scholarly footsteps of his two older brothers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His landscapes included tranquil pastoral views from his home principality of Hesse Kassel and busy
urban scenes from cities like Berlin. He also pictured the interiors of buildings and gardens, often with
grand parties and important meetings shown in their midst. Showing an interest in nature, Ludwig
even made drawings of some varieties of plants and insects. He worked in many styles and media, too,
ranging from rough sketches to detailed engravings, from blurred watercolors to meticulous drawings.
One of Ludwig s greatest artistic gifts was his ability to give very real personalities to the faces of his
subjects by using various facial expressions and a masterful command of the different positions and
characteristics of the eyes. This ability, along with his interest in nature and his use of a myriad of
subjects, including all types of people and landscapes, lent itself well to the illustration of fairy tales.
The second edition of the first volume of the Grimms Fairy Tales marked Ludwig s first involvement
with fairy tales. Achim von Arnim, who lent money, editing and publishing services, and advice to the
Grimms, had only one criticism of the enormously successful first edition of Fairy Tales: it needed
illustrations. The logical choice to fill this void in the second edition was Ludwig, who made a series
of engravings to accompany the text published in 1819. Since that book was published, nearly every

How Different Features Of The Musculoskeletal System...
This essay will talk about how different features of the musculoskeletal system functioning in terms of
movement, support and load bearing, the factors which affect tensions in developed muscle and
different roles of muscle and their roles in movement. The first part to start with is to understand what
musculoskeletal system is and the function of it. The basic function of musculoskeletal system is to
support the human body, allow movement, support and protect organs, it also known as the loco motor
system. The system is formed by bones, cartilage, ligaments, muscles, tendons, joints and other
connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together. The skeletal part of the system
works as storage system for calcium and phosphorus. It is essential for bones to regulate mineral
balance in the bloodstream, and then the variation of minerals is high, these minerals are stored in
bone; when it is low, minerals are withdrawn from the bone. The skeleton system has a critical
relationship with blood production (hematopoietic) system. The hematopoietic system locates in long
bones and there are two distinctions of bone marrow. The yellow marrow has fatty connective tissue,
the body uses the fat in yellow marrow for energy; the red marrow is important for blood cell
production. The bones also provide stability to the body; muscles keep bones in place and also play a
role in movement of the bones. When movement happens, different bones are connected by joints and

Social Media Public Sphere
Through the emergence of the Internet, the last 20 years have seen a transformation in the way the
society communicates with one another. There is no doubt that the Internet has changed the way the
world interacts with one another on a democratic scale. Can it be said that with the emergence of the
Internet, a new public sphere has been created? If so, is this new public sphere capable of embodying
the theory that Habermas constructed? Petros Iosifidis article The Public Sphere, Social Networks and
Public Service Media (2011) examines reasons that hinder social networks from becoming a seamless
public sphere, and why Public Service Broadcasting should change over to Public Service Media.
Social Networks
Summary
Iosifidis starts the article by discussing in detail his first topic social networks as a new public sphere.
His main argument is that while social media spaces create new public spheres of both democratizing
and empowering functions (2011), the Internet is also capable of both informing individuals and
manipulating them. He argues that the public sphere is still a strong analytical instrument in today s
societies, as it helps us help us make sense of the relationship between the media and democracy
(civic engagement) (2011). Iosifidis brings up several interesting and debatable reasons why social
media is mostly overstated and represents hopefulness in the ability to be a public sphere. His six
reasons are: open participation of social media may turn

Older Workers Persuasive Speech
Attention Getter: Our economy keep changing as fast as the speed of a roller coaster. Therefore, many
people including employers assume that workers over 45 are less productivities because younger
workers will keep up with rapid economic development better. This assumption can be against anyone
of us in the future because some of us will join the group of older workers someday.
Topic Revelation: I am Uyen Nguyen, today I will convince you to support employment protection for
older workers.
Credibility Statement: In 2013, the U.S. Department of Labor announces that one third of total U.S.

III. Cause As I just mentioned about the retirement plan. I want to talk more about it because the good
purpose of retirement plans unintentionally becomes the cause of age discrimination in our society.
In the book Old and Obsolete: Age Discrimination and the American Worker published in 1989, the
prejudice against older workers in the workplace did not exist before having retirement plans. Before
the 20th century, older workers, along with all others, were expected to remain economically and
socially useful as long as they were physically able to do so

Women in the Western Genre Essay
Ever since the early 20th century, there had been several attempts and experimentation in creating a
new genre of cinema known as the Western. The first well known Western movie The Great Train
Robbery (1903), while not necessarily being the first ever Western, it is by both film historians and
theorists definitely considered the pinnacle of the genre, that got it all started and that would be the
first step in creating others similar to it, but also very different. Because it was still an unknown genre
in film, there had not yet been established a set of rules as for how to construct films in this new
experimental genre so change was to be expected. One of the most significant changes in the genre
through the years is how the role of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One other Western film that comes to mind when it comes to the role and treatment of women
(Shulman ix) is The Virginian, where Molly, an Eastern schoolteacher who comes to Wyoming from a
good but rather needy Vermont family faces several conflicts one all Westerns are typically all too
familiar with being the inevitable conflict of the East and West, but it seems as though throughout
their interactions with one another it serves as more of a guise for a contest between men and women
when Molly proceeds to educate the Virginian, then in turn educating and increasingly dominating her
thus resulting in a genteel version of the nineteenth century war between the sexes (Shulman ix), and
what could also be stated as a masculine feminine contest about responsibility and marriage (Shulman
xxvii) comes to pass upon Molly s arrival. Despite getting to know The Virginian well over the course
of the film, Molly is still naïve when it comes to the attempted newly formed laws and customs of the
parts of the West, showing so when she objects to the lynching, but as The Virginian himself
explained, despite how greatly it upsets him as well it is something he has to do, because his friend
knew of the customs of the country, and that if they did not go through with the lynching the judges
wouldn t like it. However, soon Judge Henry overcomes Molly s feminine and Eastern objections, as
his three arguments regarding the West and law serve to persuade Molly

The Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Bolivia
Globalisation is, the process by which businesses or other organisations develop international
influence or start operating on an international scale. We have crossed a boundary with globalisation
that we can not revert. Our cultures have become so homogenised, with Mcdonalisation, wearing the
same brands like Nike and listening to Ed Sheeran no matter where we are in the world. It could be
said that it would be impossible to go back to a world before globalisation. However it also has to be
said that some nations such as Bolivia are rejecting globalisation and still remain a still remain a

Evo Morales was elected president of Bolivia in 2006. He is a socialist leader and therefore rejects the
idea of globalisation, and though many experts argued this would hurt Bolivia economically, we now
know this is not the case. On his hundredth day in office, Bolivian President Evo Morales moved to
nationalise his nation s oil and gas reserves, ordering the military to occupy Bolivia s gas fields and
giving foreign investors a six month deadline to comply with demands or leave. Bolivia has grown
much faster over the last 8 years under President Evo Morales than in any period over the past three
and a half decades. A year before the election of Morales Bolivia s annual increase in GDP was 0.9%,
today under the helm of Morales the annual increased has soared to 3%, a 2.1% increase. Furthermore
it would be possible to counter the argument that the stopping of global station would lead to
shortages in produce especially food. From what we know many secluded society s like the tribes in
the Amazon have managed to grow, cultivate and harvest enough food to feed their populations. For
example the The Xingu people that live in Xingu national park, have avoided globalisation ever since
the first landings on the Conquistadores landed in South America in the 16th century. During this time
their population has thrived from 3000 members in 32 different settlements. These people obtain their
food from communal vegetable gardens and spear fishing. Furthermore their traditional longhouses
are built from local trees. This is a clear example of a civilisation that has managed not only to survive
but to thrive in a world without globalisation. From these examples we can see that it is possible to
stop globalisation without a imminent collapse of society. However it has to be said that in the case of

Comparing Beowulf And Captain America
What is a hero? As a society we have many ideals of them and with the recent events, whether they are
real, War on Terror, The persecution of our emergency responders, the upcoming political races; or are
simply all the new superhero movies coming out, the definition of a hero is somewhat vague. Looking
at Beowulf, however and comparing him to Captain America, a revisit of an old comic book, we can
see that though times have changed, our idea of the prefect hero , which these stories seem to describe
to us remain largely unchanged. In the opening part of Beowulf, a fiend of hell, began to do evil. The
grim demon (Lines 100 102). This monster is Grendel and he seeks the utter destruction of Heorot

plans of dying in his last battle, but when he sees that the only way to assure victory is to sacrifice
himself he does so with no hesitation and no thought of himself. Beowulf goes into his last battle

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Binary Options Demo Account
correctrade.com What is a binary options demo account? August 3rd, 2016
Headline: What is a binary options demo account?
Binary options trading is fairly straightforward and even a newbie can learn it in a short time.
However, owing to general volatility of the financial markets, it s risky for an inexperienced trader to
make a substantial amount of deposit and start trading for real. For that reason, many platforms have a
binary options demo account in place in order to provide the traders a risk free environment for
trading. A demo account is indispensable for a new trader as it requires no upfront commitment.

Thus, when they start trading for real, they are well prepared and quickly adapt to the constantly

Disadvantages of a demo account
Although a demo account is indispensable for the traders, it has a few disadvantages as well.
Taking unnecessary risks A demo account comes with a large amount of practice money, even up to
$100,000. Naturally, this tends to encourage a trader to take some unnecessary risks which he would
totally avoid if it was his actual investment. The risk taking behaviour develops into a habit and can
lead to the depletion of an entire trading account as soon as the trader begins trading for real.
Unrealistic expectations Even if a trader executes a series of successful trades using a binary options
demo account, he might not be able to replicate the same level of success in a real account. Markets
and asset trends change constantly because various macroeconomic and political factors are at play.
Therefore, placing successful trades require careful and constant analysis of the trends over extended

Social Media And Content Plan For Euclides
Social Media Content Plan for Euclides
Since successful social media and content plans are intertwined, this brief plan highlights the main
recommendations for both areas and offers tactical objectives for content creation and social media.
Current Status:
Euclides has a solid presence on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, as well as an active blog on their
website. They post quality information, on a consistent basis, and have a respectable following.
Engagement is consistent with what many SMB B2B companies see using social media. Euclides also
has a YouTube channel and incorporates video in a strategic fashion. Although Euclides has a strong
SM foundation, there are a few keys areas where we recommend implementing additional ... Show

d. Superior service. We recommend continuing to use case studies as an excellent vehicle to educate
your followers on the quality of your services.
e. Build relationships. One of the important aspects of Social Media is building relationships with
followers, important groups and influencers. We recommend creating a list of target press, analysts,
customer groups, industry groups, partners and other influencers. One of the key goals is to start
conversations and create/nurture interest in your skills and services. This is a key area where we
recommend some additional strategies. While social media can generate some B2B leads, its strongest
potential lies in helping to nurture leads and move them down the funnel.
Content Recommendations:
Euclides has a solid foundation of original and curated content that covers the technical, service and
business advantages Euclides offers. There is a good mix of blog posts, white papers, e books and
thought leadership content. Euclides is already doing a great job using catchy titles and tips content.
We see a couple of areas for improvement.
1. Adding case study metrics. While Euclides has some great case studies, we recommend trying to
tease out additional information, when possible, about tangible benefits. For example, Company A
estimates that it reduced customer wait times by 20%... , Customer

Drinking Water Steps
Have you tried many many weight loss plans and gotten nowhere? Would you like a simpler approach
that requires small steps that make a big difference? If you re looking for a concrete action plan that
won t leave you feeling starved, then you ve come to the right place. Let s get started. Week 1: Drink
water. My biggest weaknesses are coffee and soda. I know, however, that when I drink water instead I
have more energy and get sick less often. This week s assignment is to drink a glass of water just after
waking in the morning and before every meal. By drinking water first thing in the morning, you are
more likely to continue drinking water all day. If you drink a glass of water before every meal, you
will eat less because you will be full ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I assume that will be their main battle cry in the upcoming election. By election time the majority of
the people will be glad they can t have their insurance canceled when they get sick, that their children
are covered until age 26, that benefit caps will be removed from new policies, that pre existing
conditions will not prevent children from obtaining insurance and that death panels do not exist. The
non existence of death panels will no doubt come as a big surprise to Sarah Palin. Quoting Business

to come up with common sense ideas to fix health care for all and did nothing. With the exception of
enacting the Medicare Drug Program for seniors in 2003, they were not interested in improving the
plight of people without health insurance and completely ignored the steadily mounting numbers of
people without health insurance, at least 48,000,000. They said they preferred

Sleep Deprivation And The Sleep Cycle
Sleeping is very important for everyone as it helps our body to rest and recover its energy. Anyone,
who doesn t sleep well, can have many disorders that we will discuss later. We have first to explain
what is a typical night`s sleep cycle then go ahead and describe how sleep deprivation impacts your
ability to learn and your health as well. Regular night`s sleep cycle can always be described in 4 stages
N1, N2 and N3. Where each stage has different information and different description. N1 can be said
for light sleep. N2 is for sleep spindles. N3 is for the delta waves. Also there is REM and NREM sleep
which defers from one stage to another. First stage will be N1 which is light sleep. In this stage your
body starts to adjust itself and the other organs that it is about to stop working. Where at this stage the
body drift between sleeping and out of sleep and it can be easily awakened from this stage. This stage
affects the eye movement as it makes it move slowly and the muscle activity as well starts to relax.
Many people said that they experienced sudden muscle contraction. There is also a hypnagogic images
as hallucinations or vivid visual events and hypinc jerk for the knees, legs and sometimes for the
whole body Second stage is N2, which can be expressed by sleep spindles as it is accompanied by stop
of eye movement and different stuff.in this stage, the body relaxes to the extreme as it stopes the eye
movement and brain waves starts to slow down with an occasional

Functional Behavior Assessment
Subject and Setting
The subject is a three year old boy named Levi who has been diagnosed with autism. The setting for
his observation is in his home and front yard at 11:00 am with his mother and little brother present.
His mother reports that he has recently been sick with a cold and is getting restless. It has been five
days since he has had any school services and the date of the observation is the first day he has been
well enough to have visitors. There are no other reported medical or physiological factors that are
known to influence the target behavior.
Target Behavior
The problem behavior being observed is self injurious behavior. Self injurious behavior is
operationally defined as: projecting head into forceful contact with any surface and forceful contact
between hand and head/face. Levi s self injurious behavior occurs hourly at a severe intensity, thus
posing a physical threat to his safety. Engaging in this behavior also impedes Levi from
communicating his needs using verbal language and acquiring additional functional skills. For these
reasons, a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) should be performed in order to determine the
cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The direct observation data show antecedent behaviors that corroborate this information, but the
consequence stimuli do not appear to maintain this function. If Levi repeatedly gets the tangible item
or activity, he learns to use that behavior to achieve his desired outcome (Alberto and Troutman,
2013). Following the seven instances that Levi engaged in self injurious behavior during the
observation, he was denied access to an activity (going outside), over seventy percent of the time.
Thus, it is unlikely that gaining access to a tangible is the primary function of his behavior, as he is
denied access to playing outside as a result of his self injurious

The Day Of The Future
Like any other person, Zaid lived his childhood day by day. He has never thought of the future
because that is how a kid is; they live life in the present and only the present. As time passed, nothing
changed; he reached his teenage years and still nothing new, just living every day and waiting for
tomorrow with no expectations or assumptions. In this period of age, all of his friends had already set
goals and planned their futures, each friend with a different dream. Yet that was not for him, he was
really satisfied with living for each day and never looking towards the future.
One day, just like any other regular day; he sat down with his father and they started talking. It is a
usual thing that he does a lot, so they talked about his day and how it went just as usual. One thing that
had changed at that time was that his father shifted the course of their conversation and started to talk
with a serious tone that Zaid never had heard from his father before, so he was shocked little bit. His
father sounded like he wanted to open zaid s eyes to something. He asked him, Son, what are your
expectations for your life? . Zaid was not sure why he asked him that. Maybe because of his brother
that was constantly talking about how he wants to be a lawyer or his sister mentioning that she wants
to open her own company. Zaid was the only one who never opened a conversation about the future
with his father. All he knows is that he answered him with the biggest an innocent smile on his

Reasons for Australia s Federation
Defence, Immigration and Trade
Australian federation was a main turning point in Australia s history, not so much for it s camaraderie
and sprit, but to legislate and retaliate against three main concerns that had arose in our developing
nation; Australia s defence, immigration and trade. With the introduction of Federation to Australia, all
three problems were fixed, and much more.
Before 1901, Australia s defence lacked muscularity. Best put it by Jim Killen, a British General at the
time, was that [Australia] couldn t even defend Botany Bay on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Each
colony had there own minute militia run by volunteers, but heavily relied on the British ... Show more

People were growing tired of being susceptible to attacks so easily, vulnerable to the most minuscule
of invasions, which was one strong driver to Australia s coming of a Federation. This was driven by
the uprising of nations such as Germany, France and Russia who had already started colonising
neighbouring parts of the Pacific. Along with this, Neighbouring Asian country were also a threat, as
they had large populations and armies. Alfred Deakin, the Australian politician, was a leader of the
movement for Australian federation once referred to this problem by stating that The Asiatic wave
which has threatened to engulf us is only suspended for a short time, but if the colonies do not federate
our comparatively trifling white population will be swept before it like a feather . Along with this,
unified nation made Australia better equipped to deal with foreign policy matters. An example of this
was when Germany gain ownership of New Guinea. It is believed that New Guinea could have
belonged to Australia if the six colonies had been able to unify, meaning that a German invasion
would be unlikely. What federation created was a united defence force which could better protect
Australia and it s possessions, which would intern strengthen Australia s

For this assignment, I decided to use http://www.nsttac.org/ and http://www.ncset.org/ to research and
discuss. I believe that both websites would be beneficial for a secondary special education teacher for
many reasons. I was a little lost when researching the websites because I do not know what most of
the information is talking about, but I think a secondary special education teacher would. Both
websites had a lot of information on how to create opportunities for youth with disabilities to achieve
successful futures. The website, http://www.ncset.org/, focused on four major areas of national
significance for youth with disabilities and their families, which include: providing students with
disabilities with improved access and success in the secondary education curriculum, ensuring that
students achieve positive post school results in accessing postsecondary education, meaningful
employment, independent living and participation in all aspects of community life, supporting student
and family participation in educational and post school decision making and planning, and improving
collaboration and system linkages at all levels through the development of broad based partnerships
and networks at the national, state, and local levels. Given this information a secondary special
education teacher can look on this website for resources on secondary education, transition service
employment, service agencies, and other areas. It is provides a network of people who can assist a

CODIFICATION OF PARLIAMENTARY PRIVILEGES WHY IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY?
No law per to the provisions contained under Article 105(3)and 194(3) of the Constitution of India has
been made so far with regard to the codification of the other privileges, which is contrary to very
intent and desire of the founding fathers. Even in the United Kingdom, the law with regard to the
Parliamentary Privileges has undergone tremendous change since 1950, however, the Indian
Legislatures have still not realized the need for a step to be taken towards the improvisation and
evolution of the law which earlier prevailed in the House of Commons at the time of the
commencement of the Constitution of India. The apprehension resisting this kind of an evolution ...

There is no doubt that there is an absolute requirement to confer upon the Parliament certain powers,
immunities and privileges to ensure its independent functioning and also for the preservation of its
prestige and dignity. However, it is also absolutely necessary that such powers and privileges are made
use of in a responsible and diligent manner and in accordance with the principles of natural justice and
the other provisions enshrined under Part III of the Constitution of India. For the purpose of securing
greater clarity and certainty with respect to the provisions contained under Article 105(3) (and also
Article 194(3)), it is necessary that constitutional mandate contained in the first part of the above
provisions be implemented and thereby, the privileges also be codified. Moreover, it is completely
baseless to consider that the codification of the Parliamentary Privileges would result in the detraction
from the prestige and sovereignty of the Parliament. In fact, if

The Ethical Dilemma Of Grand Nursing Theories
Grand nursing theories are global in their application to nursing and have been instrumental in
developing the science of nursing (McEwen Wills, 2014). Grand nursing theories are abstract and can
be applied to many different situations. Because grand nursing theories are broad they can be applied
to ethical dilemmas that occur in nursing practice. Ethical dilemmas are a part of the healthcare field
and it is important to know how to navigate through the murky waters that dilemmas can present.
Nursing theories are a road map that allows nurses and healthcare workers to find the best option to
resolve a problem. One of the theories developed was by Virginia Henderson and called the theory of
need and is still being applied to nursing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The patient s son accused the nursing staff of mistreating his mother by administering pain
medications to frequently which was causing his mother to be overly sedated and would not allow
administration of pain medication without his approval first. The son was refusing to accept his
mother s condition and assumed his mother would make a miraculous recovery, he was always
coming to the hospital in the middle of the night drunk. Because the nursing staff was distressed over
the son s refusal to accept his mother s condition, an ethics meeting was convened to decide what was
ethically appropriate for the patient. After the meeting, the patient was changed to comfort care and
nursing staff was allowed to administer medications as necessary to keep the patient comfortable. The
nursing staff updated the son twice a day on his mother s condition and the patient soon passed away
with her son at the bedside. Grand Nursing Theory There are many grand nursing theories that could
be applied to this ethical dilemma. However, Virginia Henderson recognized death as an option when
treatment is no longer an option. Virginia Henderson developed the theory of need. The theory of need
defines nursing as assist[ing] the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities that
will contribute to health or its recovery (or to a peaceful death) that the person would perform unaided
given the necessary strength, will, or knowledge (Henderson, 1997, p. 22). She described the

significant name which the author uses as a symbol to show the protagonist s position as his name is
ant. He is considered insignificant to his peers and can easily be pressured. Ant is described as an
inferior character as he is so small, and his peers such as Lance are powerful. Throughout the story,
Ant also carries heavy weight on his shoulders which symbolizes he carries a lot of guilt. With his last

The Four Different Types Of Organic Compounds
Organic Compounds There are four main classes of organic compounds: carbohydrates, lipids,
proteins, and nucleic acids. Organic compounds are covalently bonded compounds that are primarily
composed of carbon atoms (excluding oxides and carbonates). These four classes of organic
compounds are vital to the life processes of all living things. One of the main organic compounds are
carbohydrates. Some carbohydrates are a source of energy and others are used as structural materials
for living things. Carbohydrates are composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. They are in a ratio of
one carbon atom to two hydrogen atoms to one oxygen atom (1:2:1). The general formula of a
carbohydrate is (CH2O)n. N is any whole number from three to eight. The functional group of a
carbohydrate is hydroxyl. Carbohydrates also have subclasses, which are monosaccharides,
disaccharides, and polysaccharides. A monosaccharide is a simple sugar that is the basic subunit of a
carbohydrate. The three examples of monosaccharides are glucose, fructose, and galactose. Glucose is
the main source of energy for cells. Fructose is the sweetest of the monosaccharides and is found in
fruits, while galactose is found milk. Compounds like these sugars have the same chemical formula,
but different structures, this is called isomers. A disaccharide is a sugar formed from two
monosaccharides. For example, the monosaccharides fructose and glucose combining to form the
disaccharide sucrose. A polysaccharide is one of

Weinberg s A Designer Universe Essay
Weinberg s A Designer Universe
The phenomenon of the creation of the universe has baffled many for some time. The question of
whether or not a designer/God put together this most intricate world in a personal quest or project
leaves many in great debate. Was life brought about by some evolutionary feat? Or, in opposition, did
an intelligent being create life with perfection in mind? Both questions can be answered in many
different ways. Steven Weinberg, writer of A Designer Universe, offers his thoughts, through
abduction, regarding the likelihood of a designer creating the universe.
Such an abduction, in which Weinberg expresses his opinion, relies on premises or declarative
statements that the conclusion proves most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first most convincing argument that Weinberg presents to the reader, points toward a universe
created by something other than a deity. Weinberg touches on carbon synthesis. He points out that the
creation of the carbon atom can be easily explained through science. Thus, if carbon developed
through some random reaction within the universe. Once this carbon develops the likelihood of more
carbon developing is great. Hence, carbon being the basis of life, life would be able to exist through
this atomic theory. Furthermore, this reaction can be simply explained by scientists without the use of
some intelligent designer. So, Weinberg concludes that, in fact, a designer does not exist, or the carbon
was produced by chance without a designer. This argument shows that the perfection of a conscious
deity doesn t need to exist for the essential beginning of life. This argument of Weinberg s clearly
implements what philosophers call the No Surprise Principle . Because the conclusion that Weinberg
makes points toward all of his premises, the conclusion makes the premises most unsurprising, thus
leading to the basis of the No Surprise Principle .
In a further argument, Weinberg again expresses via abduction that a divine creator was not the
founder of all life. Weinberg touches on his opinion of the Big Bang Theory . He suggests that if more
than one big bang occurred and more than one universe exists

Factors in the Development of Swing
Around the turn of the nineteenth century, new musical forms such as ragtime and jazz saw
development in urbanized areas particularly through the influence of the African American
community. These contemporary genres compelled the evolution of dance toward expression that was
more exuberant with exaggerated body movements (Edmondson). By the 1920s, this led to the
creation of the Charleston and the Lindy Hop, the direct predecessors to Swing. In particular, the
Savoy Ballroom, opened in 1926 in New York, was central to this development because there dancers
soon incorporated tap and jazz steps into their dancing, led by individuals such as Benny Goodman
and Herbert White (Heikkila). The East Coast Swing, often associated with the Jitterbug, Lindy, and
Triple Swing, was a redefinition of the Lindy Hop as the characteristic eight count step was simplified
to a six step swing during the 1940s. Much of the formalization of this dance was performed by the
Arthur Murray dance studios which began to teach Swing, thus introducing an otherwise wild street
dance to the ballroom dance community. Meanwhile, Dean Collins introduced Swing to California
and, though he did not explicitly invent West Coast Swing, was influential in its popularity and
stylistic development through his smooth and anchored style of dancing swing which became
imported into Hollywood s own portrayal of the dance (Powers). Originally named Western Swing,
the name was changed in 1959 to West Coast

How I Have Improved as a Writer Ever since I started attending Mrs.Kigar s 1st hour Senior Comp.

before this class I had never heard of parallelism and didn t know the impact it had on writing.
Another part of my stylistic learning was learning about transitions, semicolons, commas, and
apostrophes. I also wrote almost every different style of paper too which really helps in improving the
ability to write. One thing I have improved on is using sophisticated vocabulary in my papers. For
example, from my compare and contrast paper I wrote I said, The boxer engine also gives the exhaust

  • 2. How Did The October Revolution Affect The Bolsheviks After overthrowing the Provisional Government and forming the Sovnarkom socialist government in the October Revolution (1917), the Bolsheviks were hampered by problems that arose over social, political and economic factors, however to consolidate their power, they used means of sabotage and appeasing the population. Many decrees were published to placate the masses, such as the Decree on land and the Decree on Workers Control, to control the economic situation. Politically, the Bolsheviks formed the Cheka to expose and investigate all counter revolutionary and criminal activities. What sparked the consolidation of power was the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly. Economically, the Bolsheviks set decrees based on land and factories to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bolsheviks were concerned about their abilitiy to remain in control. This is because the October Revolution (1917) came too late to prevent the elections of the All Russian Constituent Assembly from going ahead in November as planned. The voting (12 15 November 1917) occurred and the results dismayed the Bolsheviks. Although they had won 175 seats in the assembly, they were outvoted by nearly two to one by the SRs who won 370/707 seats and had the majority with 52%. Lenin was worried about the results and believed that they had no need of an assembly because to hand over power to the Constituent Assembly would again be to compromise with the malignant bourgeoisie. With this mentality in mind, Lenin urged the Bolsheviks to dissolve the Constituent Assembly. This occurred on 5 January 1918 when, after a long day of negotiations and disagreements between the Bolsheviks and Left SRs and Mensheviks and Right SRs, the meeting ended at 5am. When the delegates arrived at 5pm for the reconvened session, they found that the Tauride Palace was locked and guarded by Bolshevik troops who presented them with a decree declaring that the Constituent Assembly has been dissolved. The Bolsheviks believed that the machine gun became for them the principle instrument of political persuasion, (Richard Pipes) which outlined their motives behind dissolving the assembly. This contributed to formation of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic (RSFSR), who formally came into being (19 July 1918), which allowed the Bolsheviks to remain firmly in power. Thus, concluding that the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly allowed the Bolsheviks to establish the RSFSR, which ultimately consolidated their power at that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sugar is by far the most prominent ingredient and with around 12 grams of sugar per serving (about 7 pieces), candy corn is pretty bad for you (Leah Bolton). Corn syrup is also very unhealthy. Corn syrup is a type of sugar so there is not much nutrition in it and it also has been associated with diabetes. Along with the high amounts of sugar in candy corn, artificial food coloring is very bad for one s health. Some people believe that food colorings are carcinogenic dyes and can lead to a variety of diseases. On the other hand, corn starch is not extremely unhealthy, unlike the rest of the ingredients. Although corn starch contains a lot of calories, it can help lower blood pressure and can also provide energy. Even with these two positive effects of corn starch, it does not make candy corn any better to eat. It does not effect the candy corn nutritional value greatly, but the high calorie count in corn starch only makes it worse and adds more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Impact Of Fast Fashion On Business Environment Introduction The continually increasing globalization in the world has linked many countries together and the borders have become inconspicuous. Many firms cooperate in a global market, which leads to an increased amount of transnational corporations acting in a global surrounding (Douglas Wind, 1987). In the fashion industry, the business environment is especially competitive and firms have to adjust their business practices rapidly such as products and launching time of each collection on the basis of the demand of current market (Lowson, King Hunter, 1999). Companies in the fashion industry like ZARA, Topshop and H M have emerged a new trend fast fashion that combines two main characteristics: short lead times and trendy design products (Passariello,2008 ; Rohwedder Johnson, 2008). However, fast fashion leaves behind some issues, which are not beneficial to environmental protection and human costs. In fast fashion industries, it requires companies to complete missions in a short time, some fast fashion companies use unethical acts in order to complete producing on time which may result in environmental issue and appears unfair labour practices. In addition, Luz (2007) pointed out that globalization provided fast fashion industries a chance to produce clothes at lower prices so that they can sell clothes with a cheaper price. Their return expectations are given in the table below. You will notice that both Ace and Bravo are risky investments because they do not offer a certain return. You can begin by comparing the expected return and risk of Ace and Bravo: State of Probability Return Economy of occurrence Ace Bravo Boom 0.2 +20 15 Growth 0.6 +5 +5 Recession 0.2 10 +25 1. What kind of a correlation do you observe between the two securities? 2. Calculate the expected return and standard deviation of both Ace and Bravo. Interpret the results. • 7. White Noise Religion Don DeLillo s novel White Noise explores the relativity of religion in the modern world by conceiving a world in which religion is entirely changed. Traditional aspects of religion, specifically Christianity, are rarely, if at all, present in this novel. Does DeLillo believe that religion is relativity in our modern society? Or is he pushing the boundaries by creating a distorted reality in which American culture is the primary religion? This question is initially exemplified in White Noise when it states: It s not what I believe that counts. It s what you believe (318). This paper will analyze White Noise s introduction and examination into religion; in an attempt uncover an answer to the question, is American culture the only relative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jack distances himself from traditional religion when he states: Watching children sleep makes me feel devout, part of a spiritual system. It is the closest I can come to God (141). By stating this, Jack identities traditional religion as an obscure practice that he has no access to. Modern society proves not only unconquerable but also unconditionally opposed to the practices and ideals of traditional religion, which encourages humans that it is possible to believe in a higher power. Even the clergy, who are supposedly the most devout followers of religion, only pretend to believe. In turn, the clergy s acceptance of religion exaggerates and evolves into a form of resigned impersonation. This notion becomes evident when Jack discusses religion with Sister Hermann Marie: To abandon such beliefs completely, the human race would die. This is why we are here. A tiny minority. To embody old things, old beliefs... If we did not pretend to believe these things, the world would collapse (318). Jack s absurd encounters with the clergy, illustrate DeLillo perspective that traditional is a laughable illusion. Religion is no longer seen as something revered and adored. Even the clergy s connection to God is not highly emphasized; there is a clear gap between traditional religion and its relativity in our modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Grimm Brothers Essay The Grimm Brothers Any good fairy tale may captivate a child s (or adult s) mind, but few could argue that, to be truly enchanting, a tale needs great illustrations. Two of the most influential fairy tale tellers in history were the German Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. Both very intelligent scholars, they knew how to spin a tale in the most effective way possible. However, they had plenty of work just dealing with the tales text, so in the area of illustration, they let their younger brother Ludwig take over, beginning with the second edition of their fairy tales. The fifth child of six in the Grimm family, Ludwig, who was always called Louis, did not necessarily follow in the scholarly footsteps of his two older brothers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His landscapes included tranquil pastoral views from his home principality of Hesse Kassel and busy urban scenes from cities like Berlin. He also pictured the interiors of buildings and gardens, often with grand parties and important meetings shown in their midst. Showing an interest in nature, Ludwig even made drawings of some varieties of plants and insects. He worked in many styles and media, too, ranging from rough sketches to detailed engravings, from blurred watercolors to meticulous drawings. One of Ludwig s greatest artistic gifts was his ability to give very real personalities to the faces of his subjects by using various facial expressions and a masterful command of the different positions and characteristics of the eyes. This ability, along with his interest in nature and his use of a myriad of subjects, including all types of people and landscapes, lent itself well to the illustration of fairy tales. The second edition of the first volume of the Grimms Fairy Tales marked Ludwig s first involvement with fairy tales. Achim von Arnim, who lent money, editing and publishing services, and advice to the Grimms, had only one criticism of the enormously successful first edition of Fairy Tales: it needed illustrations. The logical choice to fill this void in the second edition was Ludwig, who made a series of engravings to accompany the text published in 1819. Since that book was published, nearly every ... • 9. How Different Features Of The Musculoskeletal System... This essay will talk about how different features of the musculoskeletal system functioning in terms of movement, support and load bearing, the factors which affect tensions in developed muscle and different roles of muscle and their roles in movement. The first part to start with is to understand what musculoskeletal system is and the function of it. The basic function of musculoskeletal system is to support the human body, allow movement, support and protect organs, it also known as the loco motor system. The system is formed by bones, cartilage, ligaments, muscles, tendons, joints and other connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together. The skeletal part of the system works as storage system for calcium and phosphorus. It is essential for bones to regulate mineral balance in the bloodstream, and then the variation of minerals is high, these minerals are stored in bone; when it is low, minerals are withdrawn from the bone. The skeleton system has a critical relationship with blood production (hematopoietic) system. The hematopoietic system locates in long bones and there are two distinctions of bone marrow. The yellow marrow has fatty connective tissue, the body uses the fat in yellow marrow for energy; the red marrow is important for blood cell production. The bones also provide stability to the body; muscles keep bones in place and also play a role in movement of the bones. When movement happens, different bones are connected by joints and ... • 10. Social Media Public Sphere Through the emergence of the Internet, the last 20 years have seen a transformation in the way the society communicates with one another. There is no doubt that the Internet has changed the way the world interacts with one another on a democratic scale. Can it be said that with the emergence of the Internet, a new public sphere has been created? If so, is this new public sphere capable of embodying the theory that Habermas constructed? Petros Iosifidis article The Public Sphere, Social Networks and Public Service Media (2011) examines reasons that hinder social networks from becoming a seamless public sphere, and why Public Service Broadcasting should change over to Public Service Media. Social Networks Summary Iosifidis starts the article by discussing in detail his first topic social networks as a new public sphere. His main argument is that while social media spaces create new public spheres of both democratizing and empowering functions (2011), the Internet is also capable of both informing individuals and manipulating them. He argues that the public sphere is still a strong analytical instrument in today s societies, as it helps us help us make sense of the relationship between the media and democracy (civic engagement) (2011). Iosifidis brings up several interesting and debatable reasons why social media is mostly overstated and represents hopefulness in the ability to be a public sphere. The first well known Western movie The Great Train Robbery (1903), while not necessarily being the first ever Western, it is by both film historians and theorists definitely considered the pinnacle of the genre, that got it all started and that would be the first step in creating others similar to it, but also very different. Because it was still an unknown genre in film, there had not yet been established a set of rules as for how to construct films in this new experimental genre so change was to be expected. One other Western film that comes to mind when it comes to the role and treatment of women (Shulman ix) is The Virginian, where Molly, an Eastern schoolteacher who comes to Wyoming from a good but rather needy Vermont family faces several conflicts one all Westerns are typically all too familiar with being the inevitable conflict of the East and West, but it seems as though throughout their interactions with one another it serves as more of a guise for a contest between men and women when Molly proceeds to educate the Virginian, then in turn educating and increasingly dominating her thus resulting in a genteel version of the nineteenth century war between the sexes (Shulman ix), and what could also be stated as a masculine feminine contest about responsibility and marriage (Shulman xxvii) comes to pass upon Molly s arrival. Despite getting to know The Virginian well over the course of the film, Molly is still naïve when it comes to the attempted newly formed laws and customs of the parts of the West, showing so when she objects to the lynching, but as The Virginian himself explained, despite how greatly it upsets him as well it is something he has to do, because his friend knew of the customs of the country, and that if they did not go through with the lynching the judges wouldn t like it. The Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Bolivia Globalisation is, the process by which businesses or other organisations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale. We have crossed a boundary with globalisation that we can not revert. Evo Morales was elected president of Bolivia in 2006. He is a socialist leader and therefore rejects the idea of globalisation, and though many experts argued this would hurt Bolivia economically, we now know this is not the case. On his hundredth day in office, Bolivian President Evo Morales moved to nationalise his nation s oil and gas reserves, ordering the military to occupy Bolivia s gas fields and giving foreign investors a six month deadline to comply with demands or leave. Bolivia has grown much faster over the last 8 years under President Evo Morales than in any period over the past three and a half decades. A year before the election of Morales Bolivia s annual increase in GDP was 0.9%, today under the helm of Morales the annual increased has soared to 3%, a 2.1% increase. Furthermore it would be possible to counter the argument that the stopping of global station would lead to shortages in produce especially food. From what we know many secluded society s like the tribes in the Amazon have managed to grow, cultivate and harvest enough food to feed their populations. For example the The Xingu people that live in Xingu national park, have avoided globalisation ever since the first landings on the Conquistadores landed in South America in the 16th century. During this time their population has thrived from 3000 members in 32 different settlements. These people obtain their food from communal vegetable gardens and spear fishing. Furthermore their traditional longhouses are built from local trees. This is a clear example of a civilisation that has managed not only to survive but to thrive in a world without globalisation. The setting for his observation is in his home and front yard at 11:00 am with his mother and little brother present. It has been five days since he has had any school services and the date of the observation is the first day he has been well enough to have visitors. • 31. The Four Different Types Of Organic Compounds Organic Compounds There are four main classes of organic compounds: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Organic compounds are covalently bonded compounds that are primarily composed of carbon atoms (excluding oxides and carbonates). These four classes of organic compounds are vital to the life processes of all living things. One of the main organic compounds are carbohydrates. Some carbohydrates are a source of energy and others are used as structural materials for living things. Carbohydrates are composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. They are in a ratio of one carbon atom to two hydrogen atoms to one oxygen atom (1:2:1). The general formula of a carbohydrate is (CH2O)n. N is any whole number from three to eight. The functional group of a carbohydrate is hydroxyl. Carbohydrates also have subclasses, which are monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. Or, in opposition, did an intelligent being create life with perfection in mind? Both questions can be answered in many different ways. The first most convincing argument that Weinberg presents to the reader, points toward a universe created by something other than a deity. Weinberg touches on carbon synthesis. He points out that the creation of the carbon atom can be easily explained through science. Thus, if carbon developed through some random reaction within the universe. Once this carbon develops the likelihood of more carbon developing is great. Hence, carbon being the basis of life, life would be able to exist through this atomic theory. Furthermore, this reaction can be simply explained by scientists without the use of some intelligent designer. So, Weinberg concludes that, in fact, a designer does not exist, or the carbon was produced by chance without a designer. This argument shows that the perfection of a conscious deity doesn t need to exist for the essential beginning of life. This argument of Weinberg s clearly implements what philosophers call the No Surprise Principle . Because the conclusion that Weinberg makes points toward all of his premises, the conclusion makes the premises most unsurprising, thus leading to the basis of the No Surprise Principle . • 34. Factors in the Development of Swing Around the turn of the nineteenth century, new musical forms such as ragtime and jazz saw development in urbanized areas particularly through the influence of the African American community. These contemporary genres compelled the evolution of dance toward expression that was more exuberant with exaggerated body movements (Edmondson). By the 1920s, this led to the creation of the Charleston and the Lindy Hop, the direct predecessors to Swing. In particular, the Savoy Ballroom, opened in 1926 in New York, was central to this development because there dancers soon incorporated tap and jazz steps into their dancing, led by individuals such as Benny Goodman and Herbert White (Heikkila). The East Coast Swing, often associated with the Jitterbug, Lindy, and Triple Swing, was a redefinition of the Lindy Hop as the characteristic eight count step was simplified to a six step swing during the 1940s. Much of the formalization of this dance was performed by the Arthur Murray dance studios which began to teach Swing, thus introducing an otherwise wild street dance to the ballroom dance community. Meanwhile, Dean Collins introduced Swing to California and, though he did not explicitly invent West Coast Swing, was influential in its popularity and stylistic development through his smooth and anchored style of dancing swing which became imported into Hollywood s own portrayal of the dance (Powers).
