Jane Addams And Her Fight For Social Reform
Jane Addams and her Fight for Social Reform
For years, Jane Addams has been known as a social activist who created the first settlement home in
the United States. However, many people often disregard the fact that she has accomplished a
significant amount of other things throughout her life that will always make her a significant icon
in history. Were it not for Jane Addamsleadership and contribution towards the creation of the first
U.S. Hull House, social changes such as child labor, women s suffrage, and peace may not have
occurred in the United States. Growing up in Cedarville, Illinois where both educated and non
educated women struggled to be seen and heard in the public s eye, encouraged social activist,
Jane Addams, to strive to make great changes in her society. Her many achievements such as
graduating as valedictorian, being the first student to receive a bachelor s degree at the Rockford
Female Seminary in 1881, and co founding the first U.S. Hull House, has helped show that she was
very determined to make a change. After a few years of trying to improve her community, her drive
to make it better soon made for greater social changes throughout the entire country.
As a woman that underwent not being able to obtain a decent job involving any public role
besides school teaching and missionary work, Addams wanted to do something that would make it
possible for women to have more work options. In 1888, after taking a trip to visit the Toynbee
Hall in London,

Russia s Food Embargo With The Eu
There are several factors in Russia s economy that may contributed to many trade opportunities
being created for the United States. The US will likely be greatly affected by any shifts in the
demands of Russian consumers along with any import needs the country has to maintain its
society and infrastructure. One of the key considerations for examining Russia s resource needs
must be the fact that the US s core competency as an energy producer cannot be leveraged in this
scenario due to Russia s own dominance as a producer of oil (Lavrov, 2013). The loss of the
strength of the Russian ruble has caused Russia to experience a trade deficit, which has contributed
to an increase in the demand for imports (Beck, Kamps, Mileva, 2007). One of... Show more content

Russia has a very low inflation rate. This rate is the lowest it has been for the past 25 years. The
inflation sunk from 13% in the year 2015 to 5.4% today. Conversely, however, the prices to
consumers have risen. Russian currency has fallen behind because of the weak oil prices and
the sanctions of the West. Imports, in particular, were much more expensive. This year s low
price increase rate comes from President Vladimir Putin. At the beginning of 2018, presidential
elections will be held. Only recently, he asserted that economic growth in his country had fallen
by only 0.5 to 0.6 percent this year. In the last quarter of 2016, the gross domestic product even
grew. By way of comparison: last year, economic growth declined by 3.7 percent. This was mainly
due to oil price declines. Russia is part of the customs union between Russia, Kazakhstan, and
Belarus. Since January 1, 2010, uniform rules on prohibitions and restrictions as well as uniform
tariffs have applied. The three Member States apply the Common Customs Code of the Customs
Unions which creates a single customs territory between the three countries. The Eurasian
Economic Union, forced into treaty in May 2014 between Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus,
guaranteed the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor between the member countries,
and was established on January 1, 2015. This agreement is comparable to the one the United Stated

Discuss the ways in which the government may use Fiscal policy to help the economy grow out of
a recession. Reference must be made to some policies that the current government has actually use
Fiscal policy involves the use of government spending, taxation and borrowing to affect the level
and growth of aggregate demand, output and jobs. Fiscal policy is also used to change the
pattern of spending on goods and services. It is also a means by which a redistribution of income
amp; wealth can be achieved. It is an instrument of intervention to correct for free market failures.
Changes in fiscal policy affect aggregate demand (AD) and aggregate supply (AS). In the UK, the

National insurance contributions are the closest example in the UK of a proportional tax, although
low income earners do not pay NICs below an income threshold. A regressive tax is the rate of tax
falls as incomes rise I.e. the average rate of tax is lower for people of higher incomes. In the UK,
regressive taxes come from excise duties of items of spending such as cigarettes and alcohol.
Indirect taxes forma larger percentage of the disposable income of those who earn less, even
though they may also spend less.
How the current government is using fiscal policy.
The current collation government are using fiscal policy to attempt to cut down borrowing and the
budget deficit from previous borrowing of the recent labour governments to be in power. The
Coalition Government wants to halve the budget deficit over a five year period, they have launched
a programme of fiscal austerity amounting to ВЈ126 billion a year of combined spending cuts and
tax rises. Most of the fiscal austerity is coming through planned reductions in the real level of
government spending. 80% will come from spending reductions, 20% is forecast to come from
higher taxes. The fiscal squeeze is highly controversial and has led to an impassioned debate
among economists about the best way to control a budget deficit as an economy struggles to lift
itself out of recession and sustain a recovery. Keynesian economists argue that deficit reduction
policies risk driving the economy into a second recession

Teenage Paparazzo is an enticing documentary from actor Adrian Grenier about 14 year old Austin
Visschedyk, a young paparazzo. Going into the film, I wasn t sure what I was going to see. I was
familiar with Grenier as an actor, but as far as his directing skills, I was curious to see what he
could do with this very captivating premise. The documentary goes much further then just about
Austin, it delves deep into the paparazzi culture, and even examines our obsession with celebrities.
Grenier delves deeper than one might expect, by interviewing various university professors and
media experts about the psychology behind celebrities. Although some of this academic talk is
interesting, it starts to feel like a script pumped out of a university textbook, and detours from the
storyline based for too long.
The movie uses split screen techniques to spice up the presentation, but at times it comes across
quite amateur. Generally speaking, though, the documentary flows well and creates a good
combination of humourous and thoughtful moments. The conclusion isn t all that satisfying since
the story doesn t have a true end, and no major declarations are made, but I suppose a subject
matter like this can be infinitely spoken and had to wrap up at some

The Perspective That Influenced My Life
Everyone s perspectives have been influenced by their experiences. Every so often a grand
occurrence influences one s life in an impactful way, while other times it is the little instances
that influence your life the most. I know that I have definitely been influenced by innumerable
occurrences, but one perspective stands out more than others. My perspective is unlike the
majority of others. This is from the perspective of a girl who has four loving parents. Some kids
may find it difficult to deal with four parents, but for me it is comforting. Having multiple
parents, I receive more support with everything I undertake. For example, it is not just my mother
and father supporting my decision to attend Lenape for Culinary but also my step mother and
step father. So, as you can tell I acquire an abundance amount of support. Although people may be
under the impression that it would be more difficult to receive permission when wanting to do
something, in my instance, it is actually better to get more perspectives. Growing up, my father
told me no to a large amount of activities that I wanted to do. Now I m allowed to do more after
school activities, as well as spend more timewith friends. I live with my father and step mother. My
step mother is my biggest inspiration. She is the person that I look up to. If I traveled between...

Sub Saharan Afric Developing The World With Its Most...
INTRODUCTIONBackground Sub Saharan Africa continues to present the world with its most
formidable developmentchallenge. During the last two decades the number of the poor in Africa
has doubled from150 million to 300 million, more than 40 percent of the region s population. About
one thirdof the region s population lives in countries affected by or emerging from conflict.
Moreover,HIV/AIDS continues to threaten African lives and livelihoods. Africais the only region
thatremains behind on most of the MDGs. On current trends it will fall far short of meeting
the2015 targets, (The World Bank, 2005).Africa has come a long way in its efforts to achieve
sustainable development. Lessons of thecontinent s development over the last two decades
consistently highlighted the need for moreintensive efforts to effectively address some of its major
development constraints. Acombination of ineffective policies, outright mismanagement (in some
countries), heavyexternal debt burden, poor governance, and conflicts precipitated the massive
economicdecline in the early 1980s. The recovery in the latter half of the decade was partly due
tomajor economic policy reforms as well as growing socio political pluralism and economicstability,
which were consolidated in the decade of the 1990s. Yet, much still remains to bedone, as the
African continent entered the 21st century faced with numerous developmentchallenges. Some of
these challenges

The Power Of The Crown And The Authority Of The Government
The power of the crown and the authority of the government is limited by the Declaration of Man
and the Citizen. One situation where the government is limited is where Men are born free and
remain equal in rights. (1789, Art, 1, DRMC.) The government must give all men equal rights.
The rights of man include liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression. (1789, Art, 2,
DRMC.) Both the power of the crown and the authority of the government are limited by (1789,
Art, 3, DRMC.) no individual can exercise authority which does not emanate from it expressly. If
authority does not originate directly from the crown or a member of government, they may not
exercise said authority. The law has the right to prohibit only those actions harmful to society.
(1789, Art, 5, DRMC.) Neither the power of the crown nor government can prohibit an individual
from doing something that is not harmful to society or force an individual to do what it does not
order by obstructing or changing the law. The right to concur personally or through their
representative in its formation... must be the same for everyone. Authority must give the same
rights to everyone to concur personally or through their representative. (1789, Art, 6, DRMC.) In
Article 8, the government or power of crown may only punish a person if strictly and plainly
necessary. (1789, Art, 8, DRMC.) If unneccessary, a person may not be penalized by government or

Playboy Of The Western World Analysis
There was significant development of Ireland as an independent country in the first few decades of
the twentieth century. Through the examination of Synge s Playboy of the Western World, Shaw s
O flaherty, V.C., and Yeats Easter 1916 and Sixteen Dead Men readers are able to better understand
the violence that allowed for that development to be possible within Irelandat the time. Playboy of
the Western World, published in 1907, is a playwright in which John Millington Synge attempts
to define relevant political violence by highlighting the power of English s rule on the Irish
natives. The protagonist, Christy Mahon, is a murderer of his own father who is driven to tell
his story due to the attention that he is receiving. In almost all cases you would perceive the
attention that he is receiving as negative; however, in this case Christy uses his power of
persuasion and desperation of his audience to be enlightened by his story. Christy begins by
labeling his father as a, dirty man, God forgive him, and he getting old and crusty, the way I
couldn t put up with him at all. (75) Christy begins to talk down t his father almost as if he was a
useless authoritative figure much like the role of the British on Ireland s soil. As his audience
listens to his story it becomes more and more embellished and almost as if the killing was a
necessary duty. Act II begins with Christy admiring himself in the mirror, Didn t I know rightly I
was handsome... (83). Christy develops even more

Ku Klux Klan Research
Several months ago, I walked to my mailbox to check the mail. As walked down my driveway, I
noticed a clear plastic bag in my front yard. As I retrieved the bag, I realized that it contained
some sort of flyer. The flyer was a drawing of a Ku Klux Klaman with a caption below it that
read, Neighborhood Watch, you can sleep tonight knowing that the Klan is awake! . The flyer also
contained several phone numbers and a website. Upon reading the contents of this flyer, I was
appalled and shocked. After the initial shock of finding this flyer, I became angry, but curious. I was
curious about the establishment of the Klan.
In this paper, I will attempt to discuss how the Ku Klux Klan was founded and the impact the group

History.com (2009) stated that the group turned to the Greek language for inspiration. One of the
founders, Richard R. Reed, suggested the Greek word kuklos, which in English meant circle and
cycle. Bond (2011) also stated that John B. Kennedy added the word clan. After a while, the
society settled on the Ku Klux Klan. By chance, the selection of the name had a profound effect
on the clan s early success. Bond (2011) added that soon after the adaption of the name, the Klan
decided to do a little boosting of their newly formed society. So, the Klan disguised themselves in
sheets and rode their horses through the calm streets of the small town on Pulaski, Tennessee. This
action created a stir in the quiet community. This led the men to adopt the sheets as the official
uniform of the Ku Klux Klan. They added to the uniform by wearing tall pointed hats.
Similar to hazing or initiation in college fraternities and sororities, the Klan performed intricate
ceremonies for new members. The ceremony consisted of acts such as blind folding the prospect,
subjecting them to a series of oaths and rough handling before bringing him before the royal alter,
where he was to be given a royal crown, which was nothing more than a mirror and a crown made
of two large donkey

Adoption Consequences
Adoption and its Consequences for an Adopted Child
Kristiane B. Fallarcuna
Adoption is a good option for parents who can t secure the future of their children and for people
who long to have children to take care as their own. It can be a saving ground for unwanted
children and for parents who can t afford to keep their children. There are lots of successful adoption
cases and that children with their adoptive parents had happy and loving relationship with one
another. However, there are possible consequences for the adopted child which include lack of
genetic and biological information, feeling of rejection and lowered self confidence and self esteem.
Most adopted children have totally loss contact with their biological parents so it is hard for them
to check some important biological and genetic information. They have no easy way of knowing
what kind of diseases or traits can be genetically transferred to them so they can prevent it earlier.
This consequence can highly affect the medical history of the adopted child which is very
important in improving the healthy lifestyle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many especially those who were never treated differently by there adoptive parents, such feeling
can be overcome easily but unfortunately for some, it takes lifetime to overcome.
Another consequence of adoption for an adopted child is the lowering of self confidence and self

experiences such issue but the authentic love, concern, trust, and care of the adoptive parents play
an important role in giving their children normal and happy

There would be some cases when doctors will take into consideration the financial situation of the
patient while deciding whether to apply euthanasia or not. For example if a patient cannot afford to
pay for the continuous health treatment an immoral behavior of doctor would be suggesting
euthanasia in order to save some money from this patient s treatments. It is unethical and immoral
of doctors to behave so but we should certainly consider it as a possible alternative. Moreover,
euthanasia is restricted by the church. This is another important point that we should consider,
especially for religious people. According to Death and Dignity it is emphasized that Life is a gift
from God and it is only God who can take it back . Christian s point of view considers euthanasia
as a crime against church, religion and God. Christians consider this as an immoral act. When
considering the religious factor as well, we can conclude that no one has the right to take control
over our lives, especially when we are unconscious. Legalizing euthanasia would cause a very huge
despair and depression for the relatives of the deceased person. The family would feel responsible
and depressed when taking the decision whether or not their family member should continue living.

Essay about Compact Flourescent Lamp and the Environment
Compact Flourescent Lamp and the Environment
Abstract
Technological advances have come a long way since the incandescent light bulb. Today, the
compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) is the most energy efficient light bulb on the market. In the
beginning, consumers had resistance toward the CFL. With governmental support in establishing
energy efficient lighting programs, the CFL have been able to stay in the market and improve
throughout the years.
Introduction
With the advances in technology today, we are able to produce a variety of energy efficient
products, one of which is the compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). Having come a long way from the
energy absorbing incandescents, CFL is clearly the choice for the future. CFLs ... Show more

(Rigdon and Wadman, 1992). One must wonder why this new and improved technology is left in
the dark and why the resistance to the CFL?
Historical Significance
The incandescent light bulbs dates back to Thomas Edison s 1879 design which was a marvelous
invention for the 19th Century. The incandescent light bulb heats a filament by electric resistance
inside a sealed glass globe and makes the thin tungsten wire glow white hot (Luoma, 1991). The
incandescent blub is very inefficient because only 10% of the electricity flowing into the filament
becomes light and the remaining nine tenths is lost at heat (Luoma, 1991). A standard blub is hot to
the touch because it expends more than 90% of the electrical energy keeping its tungsten filament
hot enough to glow (Roodman, 1993).
A more advanced alternative to the standard incandescent light bulb is the CFL. Fluorescent tubes,
developed in the 1930 s, utilize a chemical physical process involving the ionization of argon gas
(Luoma, 1991). The fluorescent bulbs use one fifth to one third as much electricity to deliver the
same number of lumens as conventional incandescent light bulbs (Petrowski, 1995). However,
fluorescent s adaptability to everyday household lamps have been hampered by the bulkiness of its
long tubes and by problems with flickering and unpleasant light. With

What Is Brown V Board Of Education Essay
Although American schools were technically desegregated by the landmark U.S. Supreme Court
decision handed down in Brown v. Board of Education, in practice they remained largely segregated
due to trends in housing and neighborhood segregation. Consequently, busing came to be a main
remedy by which the courts sought to end racial segregation in the U.S. schools. The court s 1970
ruling in Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education furthered desegregation efforts by
upholding busing as a constitutional means to achieve integration within a school district. Due to
patterns of residential segregation, busing became a principal tool for promoting school
desegregation, by which minority students were transported to largely white schools and white
students were brought to largely minority schools. It was intended to safeguard the Civil Rights of
students and to provide equal opportunity in public education. Also, busing was an... Show more

Board of Education case initially accomplished relatively little in terms of achieving a truly
integrated public education system. The Supreme Court said in 1954 that schools should be
integrated, but in the following year, the court allowed the opponents of desegregation to frame
the process. Due to the program not receiving sufficient support, allocating sufficient money with
which to function well, indifferently staffed, and many areas of resistance, the case consequently
remained immobile. However, the Brown v. Board decision itself was a huge step forward: It
shifted the way society as a whole viewed race and helped begin to challenge what many people
had long considered acceptable. Ultimately, the court case became to be an effective instrument in
achieving successful school desegregation, in that its importance was realized and the program
became to be adequately financed and wisely

The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez
The struggle for equality has existed for thousands of years. The first decree of human rights was
drafted by King Cyrus in 539 BCE and is still an evolving issue today (Finkel). The book In the
Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez is a historical fiction novel written to tell the tale of the
Mirabal sisters and their struggle against a dictator in the Dominican Republic. As women, the
sisters were objects of discrimination by the dictator s regime. Their struggle against obstacles
forced consequences upon them for speaking their minds in a censored society. Through Mate
Mirabal, the youngest sister, we see a shift in characterization from a cautious adolescent to a
strong woman who helps change her country. Joining the rebellion and spending time in jail
changed Mate into a courageous person. In In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez uses the
change in Mate s characterization to describe the impact of oppression and people s need to have
their voice heard.
During her first year at boarding school, Mate is portrayed as a shy girl who is unable to stand
up for herself. This is shown when Mate is unable to keep some girls from making fun of her.
Her thoughts are written in a diary and they give us insight into how she feels and reacts to
certain situations. Her diary is called her Little Book and she uses it to record her feelings when
she is teased. Mate writes, And you might not know this, Little Book, but I always cry when
people laugh at me (Alvarez 31). In

The Kula is one of the most complicated aspects in Trobriand society. Throughout anthropological
history, two anthropologists, namely Bronislaw Malinowski and Annette Wiener, have successfully
given people a look into the intricate works of the Kula. While no anthropologist is more right than

The Past and Present Views on the Status of Women in...
Introduction
In India, past and present, the status and freedom that are held by women has and is in a constant
decline due to both external and cultural factors that not only causes large panic, but defensive
reactions that negatively affect and hinder the women in their culture.
Many studies conducted, have shown that the influence of other cultures and religions have made
an impression on the ideas of Indian men that have resulted in alterations to certain behaviors, attire,
possession and customs. In the beginning the treatment and views of Indian women was somewhat
degrading and depressing, often called the dark ages . Even in today s modern times, although some

According to research conducted by Kamat (1997), Indian leader Rajaram Mohan Roy, through
his organization Brahmo Samaj was among the first who fought to eliminate Sati. The ritual of
sati was banned by the British Government in 1829 There was also the Purdah System where
women were demanded to wear veils to protect them from invaders from other cultures, but in the
process it hindered the women s freedom. Female infanticide was also a large practice in
medieval Indian times. This is when a female infant was killed as soon as they were born because
they were considered a burden.
Conditions of Indian Women Culture
In addition to these customs there were also other problems that plagued the Indian women such as
malnutrition, poor health, maternal mortality and lack of education. The poor health is generally
stemmed from poor nutrition and the poor nutrition came in many forms and some still exists in
India today. The contributions to malnutrition range anywhere from negligent nursing as an infant
for favoritism to the male sibling, the desire for sons and women getting pregnant at early ages to
try and conceive one when the body was not ready to bear children, and the fact that women eat
the least of all members in the family. The families in India generally arrange most marriages and
women have a severe lack of power in their country. Divorce almost never really happens but

significant problems and was known to be a dangerous place to work. In other words the

were injured in an explosion at BP s Texas City refinery (Schorn). It was the worst workplace

antiquated blowdown drum used to collect gasoline. However, BP decided to bank a saving of
$150,000 and just repair the blowdown drum, because capital expenditure was very tight
(Schorn). According to many experts, this savings was the direct cause of the 2005 explosion.
On March 23, 2005, BP employees began restarting a unit that had been down for repairs. The
blowdown drum began to fill with gasoline, but it overflowed and sent a geyser of gasoline into
the air (PBS: Frontline). The cloud of gas created from the drum was ignited by an idle truck.
The blast that followed destroyed several office trailers full of workers parked nearby (Schorn).
After the blast, several investigations were performed by Chemical Safety Board and Secretary of
State James Baker to discover the cause of the explosion. The investigation

Anderton asks Witwer why he caught the ball, to which he responds, Because it would have fallen

have indeed rolled off the table despite Witwers prediction. Nevertheless, he asserts that such is the

Overview of Free Trade Barriers
Throughout history nations have utilized trade barriers such as tariffs and embargoes to regulate
trade among other nations (Bartlett, 1998). The purpose of such trade barriers was to provide
safeguards for a nation s imports and exports. The philosophy surrounding the use of trade barriers
has changed from time to time with there being periods when they were used extensively and
periods when they were abandoned entirely. Prior to the First World War international trade
was
flourishing and although tariffs were being used by a variety of nations they did little to discourage
trade. During and after the War, however, trading barriers between nations put heavy burdens on
international trade and by the time that the Great Depression struck world trade had reached a point
of near stagnation (Madsen, 2001).
The United States and Great Britain in the waning days of the Second World War recognized that
a resumption of international trade was necessary in order to assist the war torn European
economy. In an attempt to avoid the heavy trade barriers that were in operation prior to the War,
the United States injected millions of dollars in aid in order to induce world trade. Such measures
worked for a short period but a more permanent solution was necessary and there was a split of
opinion on what the permanent solution should be. The attempts at reaching a solution became the
source of considerable debate and as time progressed the situation became quite acrimonious.

Crime Rate And Its Effect On The Incarceration Rate
In our study, the independent variable is whether a state elects or appoints judges. The dependent
variable is the incarceration rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. To control for these
variables, we also measured the violent crime rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. The violent
crime rate allows us to see whether or not crimerate or judges are having a measurable effect on the
incarcerationrate. Without controlling for the crime rate, we would not be able to tell if higher
incarceration rates were truly a result of elected judges, as crime rate would also be playing a
significant part. This is because it could be purely coincidental that violent crimerates are higher in
states that also elect judges. Therefore, if we didn t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The value of each variable is the number of people who are incarcerated per 100,000 people. No
mathematical equation or changes were made before entering it into the SPSS program, our
statistical test.
For our data, we chose to control for the violent crime in each state. We did this by using the
violent crime rate, which was measured similarly to the incarceration rate. We measured it by
every 100,000 people for each of the 50 states. In order to code this, we used a range of 0
100,000. The variable can be anywhere within the range and only represents the number of
individuals who have committed violent crime per 100,000 people per state. No type of
equations or recoding was done before we entered this data into the SPSS program. We used a
linear regression as the statistical test to prove our hypothesis. We chose to run a linear regression
because the dependent variable, the incarceration rate, had more than two values that could be
used. This is because the incarceration rates could range anywhere from 0 to 100,000 people.
Therefore, it only made sense to use the linear regression. As seen, the independent variable was
whether a state elected or appointed judges. Further, the violent crime rate (per 100,000 people)
was the control variable. With the data above, we can conclude that our hypothesis (which asserts
that states that elect judges are more likely than those who appoint judges to have higher

Media Influence Media
How does the media influence elections and politics
During the past 20 years, the media has experienced massive changes in terms of the platforms it

This essay will describe how new occurrences have gained media the power to actively re enforce

And usually, once the public deems certain issues as of most importance, they are quickly initiated
to legislature. Going back to the Cold Warand Vietnam, we can see how media coverage the
Vietnam War inspired peace movement activists to take over the streets and demand the withdrawal
of foreign (mostly American) troops from Vietnam.
Undeniably, political candidates and the media, have always had intense interactions. The world of
media and the world of politics have a symbiotic relationship ; without the media politicians would
find it extremely hard to make their voices heard, while the media has a duty of encouraging
democracy and people s involvement in important matters, therefore media s involvement in the
world of politics is inevitable.
Curran wisely said; Media owners and politicians are so interlocked (that) media can t be
independent (2002.) A.J. Liebling also expressed his disapproval with his words; Freedom of the
press is guaranteed only to those who own one.
Certainly, the changes in technology have affected our attention spans and focuses. News articles
are becoming shorter and are often dominated by visual content. Big fonts, bright and shocking
pictures win more clicks , and it is not rarely that images and videos of politicians/political events

Modelling And Verification Of Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks Essay
Modelling and Verification of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
The University of Auckland
Auckland, New Zealand akmu584@aucklanduni.ac.nz Abstract A step towards the research of
wireless time triggered networks was taken with the development of a new safety critical wireless
protocol called the Time Triggered New Zigbee (TTNZ) protocol. The methodology for
developing the TTNZ protocol involved Model Driven Engineering (MDE) and a tool called
TimeMe which is an IEC 61499 standard compliant software. MDE overcomes the limitations of the
traditional approach which does not guarantee consistent performance during the design and
development phases of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) [1]. This safety critical wireless
protocol, TTNZ, does not take into consideration the irregularities of the physical (PHY) layer. The
current project is undertaken to consider the issue of timeliness with PHY layer abnormalities and
accordingly use a measurement or testing based approach to verify timeliness.
Index Terms TTNZ, Timeliness in Wireless Sensor Networks, PHY layer abnormalities. Introduction
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are revolutionizing the way people interact with the physical
world. The use of WSNs is rapidly growing in various types of applications. Some of these
applications have strong timeliness constraints [2]. Timeliness is a crucial factor in safety critical
applications. In general terms, timeliness refers to the

One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest Essay: Power Dynamics In The Cuckoo s Nest
She aint honest ... She likes a rigged game (Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film).
Power can be used as a source of evil or heroism. It has the capacity to control and manipulate
people. However, it also has the capability to champion freedom and rights for others. In the novel
One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest, Nurse Ratchet s controlling power came from her ability to
emasculate the male patients and maintain a sexless façade. She also held in place an extensive
system of rules and regulations, as well as an ordered routine. McMurphy s liberating power
derived from his rebellion against the ward rules and his open sexuality which granted him
confidence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, McMurphy places a bet on whether or not he could lift up a marble control panel,
throw it at a window to escape, and go watch a sports game at a bar. A few of the patients agreed
to going with him, but everyone (including McMurphy) knew that lifting the control panel would
be impossible. His aim in doing this was to show the other group members that they could claim
their rights if they were being wrongfully denied. McMurphy wanted the men to reclaim their
masculinity and engage in stereotypical manly activities; going to a bar, watching sports,
having a drink. After he attempts to lift the control panel he asserts Well, I tried, didn t I?
Goddamnit, at least I did that. (Kesey 111). As a result, McMurphy enabled the patients to see
the power of rebellion and that while they may not always succeed in their endeavours it is
worth the attempt. The Chief, our narrator, is a shy Native American who pretends to be deaf
and dumb to remain invisible on the ward. This allows him to be an observer which offers him a
measure of self protection. Most of the patients treat Chief like an object. However, McMurphy
continually tries to communicate with him. For example, he states I swear you re the biggest
Indian I ever saw (Kesey 219). As in most cases, McMurphy motivates and imparts confidence in
numerous men during his stay at the asylum. One of the primary acutes he encourages is Bromden,
as McMurphy is the only person who is able to make Chief Bromden, who

Comparison Of Blake s Songs Of Innocence And Songs Of...
When regarding the different options I had in comparing two of the works we have already read
this semester, my mind automatically went to William Blake s Songs of Innocence and Songs
of Experience. Blake s examination of the duality of a single subject s nature lends itself
perfectly to a close reading such as this. When looking at the different options available to me in
Blake s volumes, Holy Thursday (both the Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience
versions) demonstrated this duality clearly. The subject in Holy Thursday stays the same,
however, the nature of the subject is drastically different in each poem. In both Songs of
Innocence and Songs of Experience, the poem titled Holy Thursday occurs on Holy Thursday.
This was a special service at St. Paul s Cathedral in London, which was held on the first Thursday
in May. The tradition started in 1782, and this special service was held for the poorest children in
London. These children would be brought to the church by their parish officers, serving
approximately six thousand children. Both poems focus on this procession of children to the
cathedral, describing the state of the children and the varying attitudes towards the event itself.
These varying attitudes are what divides these poems that are so similar in content to two
drastically different creations. In Songs of Innocence, Holy Thursday opens with a picture of a
bright, cheery, and exciting event. Blake chooses crisp and clear language to describe the

William Faulkner is a Giant
The man himself never stood taller than five feet, six inches tall, but in the realm of American
literature, William Faulkner is a giant. (Padgett, olemiss.edu) He was a Nobel Prize winning

The Use of Bandura s Social Learning Theory in Schools Essay
One of the central tenants of Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory, which is also called
Social Cognitive Theory, is that aggression in children is influenced by the reinforcement of
family members, the media, and the environment (Bandura, 1975, pp. 206 208). Evans (1989)
suggested that the basis for Bandura s theories came from work completed by researchers Miller
and Dollard (1941) who suggested that human development is actively influenced by response
consequences (Evans, 1989, p. 4), but regardless of the impetus for Bandura s work, he is most
known for his work regarding aggressionin children. This paper will focus on why the principles of
Bandura s Social Learning Theory will benefit leaders in school environments as they... Show more

Therefore, from a human developmental perspective, the self efficacy characteristic can aid
students in comprehending the link between current behavior and future consequences (Evans,
1989). Bandura also noted that there were four distinct processes that influence a child s behavior
attention, retention, motor reproduction and motivation. During the attention phase, a child will
observe behaviors conducted around them and if this attention is thorough enough, the child will
absorb the reactions and reasons for the aggressive behavior modeled. Bandura believed that the
second stage, retention, is also vitally important because it is this re enactment that causes the
behavior to be transferred to the long term memory of the child. Of course, even if the child has
memorized the actions, they still need to have the physical attributes necessary to reproduce an
action they have seen, but there is little physical dexterity needed to hit or punch something (Isom,
1998). The final phase of this process is the motivation for the behavior. In Bandura s experiment
the children observed an adult praised for behaving badly, and this is enough, under Bandura s
theory, to cement those actions into a repeatable response by the child at a later stage. Bandura
believes this theory also supports the rise in the number of aggressive teens in high crime areas
(Isom, 1998). It is this correlation between

The On The Worship Of Fetish Gods, And Michel Tournier s...
The concept of fetishes has been ever changing, since its introduction. To look at the more precise
development of fetishism, one must start at the origin. To do this, one would look at the initiation,
the moment a fetish begins. Throughout literature, different notions of this idea has been discussed.
Using Charles de Brosses On the Worship of FetishGods and Michel Tournier s The Fetishist, the
idea of fetish initiation has evidence of presenting a common similarity and slight interpretational
differences.
Charles de Brosses elaborates on his theory of fetish initiation in his work On the Worship of
Fetish Gods or the translation of this, On the Cult of the Devine Fetishes or the Parallel of the

They chose the one they were pleased with and held a ceremony by the priests. Basically, there was
no internal connections to the chosen deities. It was solely a first encounter, split second moment
connection with anything ranging from nature to animals to colors. He viewed the fetishist people
as ignorant with their superstitious stupidity when he said, There is no superstition so absurd or so
ridiculous that ignorance joined to fear has not engendered it; when we see with what ease the
coarsest cult establishes itself in stupid minds diseased with that passion, and roots itself through
custom (De Brosses 172). His theory stated: If one considers them only from the moment when one
sees the memory of Divine Revelation entirely extinguished among them (De Brosses 172). The
moment of fetish initiation was just a mere sighting of an object that struck a moment of realization
of wants and needs.
In later literature like The Fetishist by Michel Tournier, fetish initiation is discussed in a different
light outside of religion. This story is a limited subjective perspective of a monologue by insane
asylum patient, Martin, who has a fixation on women undergarments to the extent of it becoming a
detrimental fetish. Within the first paragraph of the story, Tournier first mentioned the fetish, Some
beautiful dresses! I like that. It reassures me. It s polite. It s nice. It s gratifying (Tournier 192). He

British explorer, cartographer and navigator. James Cook is famous for his three voyages of
exploration in the South Pacific Ocean along with the coastal waters of North America. He is
best acknowledged for discovering the Hawaiian Islands, and his greatest realization was the
broad scope of his own exploration, his detail, and finally the documentation of his discovery. In

in the southern hemisphere. Thirdly explain the scientific importance that the voyage was

Moving forward, the expedition went from Plymouth to England in 1768 aboard a ship called the

The Death Of The Khmer Rouge Party Leader, Pol Pot Seized...
From the time humans began to exist in this world, hatred seemed to be a superior attribute that
one comes accustomed to. This inevitable emotion has the ability to provoke people to engage in
acts without thinking; but it is the acts that are premeditated that should be be classified as evil
and brutal. This appalling endeavor is known as genocide, the deliberate destruction of a particular
national, racial or religious group. Between the years of 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rougeparty
leader, Pol Pot seized power of Cambodiaand forced civilians of urban regions into rural lands for
labor in order to build his own agrarian utopia. Over the course of these four years, the
Cambodians and other minor ethnic groups suffered through labor camps, starvation, and torture
which all led up to their demise. As a result of these mass killings, the country s population
depleted by over 20 percent in just a few years. The country went through hardship during and
even before the genocide began including wars, torment, and considerable numbers of deaths.
Cambodia is a country located within Southeast Asia and is bordered by the countries of Thailand,
Laos, and Vietnam. After being a French protectorate for nearly a century, on 9 November 1953,
Cambodia regained its full independence. The population was over seven million and the country
was ruled by a monarch with Prince Sihanouk as Head of State. However, this happiness was short

Film Analysis Of The Movie Ex Machina
In this essay I will be taking an in depth look at the movie Ex Machina, and analyzing scenes of
the film and look for a deeper meaning and possible foreshadowing of things to follow in the film.
In the film Ex Machina, we are led to believe that the main points in the film are AI s and testing
whether they can be conscious, have emotions and basically have all the qualities and traits a human
portrays. Caleb who is believed to be chosen at random by Nathan to take part in being the person
to test the AI, realizes that is all, but random as Nathan had a purpose in choosing Caleb to take

Caleb s room that he arrives in shortly after, has no windows and Nathan simply explains that it s
a research facility and windows are not needed, and he has a lot of things in his facility that he
can t take the chance of them being seen or exposed to someone on the outside. While it may be
somewhat accurate according to Nathan and the situation, I think the windowless rooms and the
off limit rooms are to give off a sense of seclusion to the audience and also to Caleb in the film, as
it helps contribute to his eventual meltdown towards the end of the movie.
Another deeper aspect revolves around the relationship formed between Caleb and Ava, as well as
how much Nathan knows about their relationship and everything he has to do with them having
feelings for each other and his awareness of it. At first, you realize the power outages and you
question as to whether Nathan is watching or not, because surely he knows Ava has something to
do with it and he s not stupid enough to just let them happen and lose those few moments of
knowing what they are talking about. Later, we see that Nathan does indeed know and sets up his
own cameras, but the more I thought the more I wondered if he let them happen on purpose to get
them to confess certain things to each other in those moments. Nathan being a programmer and a
pretty smart guy, surely, he could fix the power outages

Green Tea As A Treatment For Cancer
In 2737 B.C., the day was pleasant as Emperor Shen Nung sat beneath a tree sipping hot water. The
slight breeze rippled through the tree above him, sending twirling leaves cascading all around him.
Sipping his tea, he noticed a leaf had fallen into it, changing the color slightly and giving the hot
water a slightly bitter, yet refreshing taste (Nerz Stormes).
Whether or not this ledged depicting how tea was discovered is true, it sets the stage for the deep
history and tradition that revolves around this world wide drink. Cultures that consume green tea
have believed in its healing properties and treated it as both a beverage and a medicine for countless
generations. Within these cultures, its common belief that green tea can increase longevity, treat
diabetes, and even prevent cancer. The question that really got me interested in the direction of this
topic was does green tea really have the ability to prevent or work as a treatment for cancer.
Green tea has been a major part of Japanese cultures throughout history, both for leisure as well as
medicine. There are people who devote their lives to learning The Way of Tea, a long ceremony
that involves brewing and sharing tea with guests as well as appreciated nature. In recent years,
some researchers aware of the correlation between Japanese culture and longevity started doing
scientific research on its validity in terms of medicine. The antioxidants, specifically catchins, as
well as the vitamins and potassium in green tea

George Washington, John Adams, And Thomas Jefferson
George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Not only is this a list of US Presidents
but it is also a list of three of the most well known Founding Fathers. Yes, they have their reasons to
be because each one of them have numerous achievements and have accomplished many things that
others have not. But one Founding Father often over looked, and not just because he stands five
feet four inches tall, is James Madison. With all due respect, James Madison has accomplishments
that stand just as well against the test of time. James Madison to me is one of the most important
Founding Fathers. Please allow me to explain why I chose Mr. James Madison, the background and
upbringing of him, some of his most notable contributions to the Unites States and why those
contributions are still important today.
The reason I chose James Madison over the rest of the Founding Fathers is because I believe he
isn t as well known as he should be and with that being said, would like to inform you about him.
Madison has accomplished many great things in his life that have had an effect on the United States
as we know it today. Undoubtedly the biggest contribution that Madison made to the United States
of America was the he was the author of the draft that was used to create the Constitution and
without the constitution there really wouldn t be a frame of government. Another reason I chose
James Madison is because he fought for religious freedom, believing it was an individual s right

Roach violation should mean the shutdown of your restaurant. The government should have stricter

My plan to eliminate such problems include the forcing shutdown of restaurant at first violations, to

  • 2. Jane Addams And Her Fight For Social Reform Jane Addams and her Fight for Social Reform For years, Jane Addams has been known as a social activist who created the first settlement home in the United States. However, many people often disregard the fact that she has accomplished a significant amount of other things throughout her life that will always make her a significant icon in history. Were it not for Jane Addamsleadership and contribution towards the creation of the first U.S. Hull House, social changes such as child labor, women s suffrage, and peace may not have occurred in the United States. Growing up in Cedarville, Illinois where both educated and non educated women struggled to be seen and heard in the public s eye, encouraged social activist, Jane Addams, to strive to make great changes in her society. Her many achievements such as graduating as valedictorian, being the first student to receive a bachelor s degree at the Rockford Female Seminary in 1881, and co founding the first U.S. Hull House, has helped show that she was very determined to make a change. After a few years of trying to improve her community, her drive to make it better soon made for greater social changes throughout the entire country. As a woman that underwent not being able to obtain a decent job involving any public role besides school teaching and missionary work, Addams wanted to do something that would make it possible for women to have more work options. • 3. Russia s Food Embargo With The Eu There are several factors in Russia s economy that may contributed to many trade opportunities being created for the United States. The US will likely be greatly affected by any shifts in the demands of Russian consumers along with any import needs the country has to maintain its society and infrastructure. One of the key considerations for examining Russia s resource needs must be the fact that the US s core competency as an energy producer cannot be leveraged in this scenario due to Russia s own dominance as a producer of oil (Lavrov, 2013). The loss of the strength of the Russian ruble has caused Russia to experience a trade deficit, which has contributed to an increase in the demand for imports (Beck, Kamps, Mileva, 2007). One of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Russia has a very low inflation rate. This rate is the lowest it has been for the past 25 years. The inflation sunk from 13% in the year 2015 to 5.4% today. Conversely, however, the prices to consumers have risen. Russian currency has fallen behind because of the weak oil prices and the sanctions of the West. Imports, in particular, were much more expensive. This year s low price increase rate comes from President Vladimir Putin. At the beginning of 2018, presidential elections will be held. Only recently, he asserted that economic growth in his country had fallen by only 0.5 to 0.6 percent this year. In the last quarter of 2016, the gross domestic product even grew. By way of comparison: last year, economic growth declined by 3.7 percent. This was mainly due to oil price declines. Russia is part of the customs union between Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. Since January 1, 2010, uniform rules on prohibitions and restrictions as well as uniform tariffs have applied. The three Member States apply the Common Customs Code of the Customs Unions which creates a single customs territory between the three countries. The Eurasian Economic Union, forced into treaty in May 2014 between Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, guaranteed the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor between the member countries, and was established on January 1, 2015. Reference must be made to some policies that the current government has actually use Fiscal policy involves the use of government spending, taxation and borrowing to affect the level and growth of aggregate demand, output and jobs. Fiscal policy is also used to change the pattern of spending on goods and services. It is also a means by which a redistribution of income amp; wealth can be achieved. Adrian Grenier Research Paper After many years of playing a famous actor on the Entourage series, Adrian Grenier has become a celebrity in real life, and profiles a young teenager who is a product of our star struck society. One evening, while being followed by a group of paparazzi, Grenier noticed that one of them looked like a boy barely left childhood, and later uncovers that the paparazzo in question, Austin, was indeed a mere thirteen year old, but already working as a celebrity photographer and earning up to $2,000 a shot for his pictures of the right star. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SCORE /10? Teenage Paparazzo is an enticing documentary from actor Adrian Grenier about 14 year old Austin Visschedyk, a young paparazzo. Going into the film, I wasn t sure what I was going to see. I was familiar with Grenier as an actor, but as far as his directing skills, I was curious to see what he could do with this very captivating premise. The documentary goes much further then just about Austin, it delves deep into the paparazzi culture, and even examines our obsession with celebrities. Grenier delves deeper than one might expect, by interviewing various university professors and media experts about the psychology behind celebrities. Although some of this academic talk is interesting, it starts to feel like a script pumped out of a university textbook, and detours from the storyline based for too long. The movie uses split screen techniques to spice up the presentation, but at times it comes across quite amateur. Generally speaking, though, the documentary flows well and creates a good combination of humourous and thoughtful moments. The conclusion isn t all that satisfying since the story doesn t have a true end, and no major declarations are made, but I suppose a subject matter like this can be infinitely spoken and had to wrap up at some ... Every so often a grand occurrence influences one s life in an impactful way, while other times it is the little instances that influence your life the most. I know that I have definitely been influenced by innumerable occurrences, but one perspective stands out more than others. My perspective is unlike the majority of others. This is from the perspective of a girl who has four loving parents. Some kids may find it difficult to deal with four parents, but for me it is comforting. Having multiple parents, I receive more support with everything I undertake. For example, it is not just my mother and father supporting my decision to attend Lenape for Culinary but also my step mother and step father. So, as you can tell I acquire an abundance amount of support. Although people may be under the impression that it would be more difficult to receive permission when wanting to do something, in my instance, it is actually better to get more perspectives. Growing up, my father told me no to a large amount of activities that I wanted to do. Now I m allowed to do more after school activities, as well as spend more timewith friends. Lessons of thecontinent s development over the last two decades consistently highlighted the need for moreintensive efforts to effectively address some of its major development constraints. Acombination of ineffective policies, outright mismanagement (in some countries), heavyexternal debt burden, poor governance, and conflicts precipitated the massive economicdecline in the early 1980s. Through the examination of Synge s Playboy of the Western World, Shaw s O flaherty, V.C., and Yeats Easter 1916 and Sixteen Dead Men readers are able to better understand the violence that allowed for that development to be possible within Irelandat the time. Playboy of the Western World, published in 1907, is a playwright in which John Millington Synge attempts to define relevant political violence by highlighting the power of English s rule on the Irish natives. The protagonist, Christy Mahon, is a murderer of his own father who is driven to tell his story due to the attention that he is receiving. In almost all cases you would perceive the attention that he is receiving as negative; however, in this case Christy uses his power of persuasion and desperation of his audience to be enlightened by his story. Christy begins by labeling his father as a, dirty man, God forgive him, and he getting old and crusty, the way I couldn t put up with him at all. (75) Christy begins to talk down t his father almost as if he was a useless authoritative figure much like the role of the British on Ireland s soil. So, the Klan disguised themselves in sheets and rode their horses through the calm streets of the small town on Pulaski, Tennessee. This action created a stir in the quiet community. This led the men to adopt the sheets as the official uniform of the Ku Klux Klan. They added to the uniform by wearing tall pointed hats. Similar to hazing or initiation in college fraternities and sororities, the Klan performed intricate ceremonies for new members. One must wonder why this new and improved technology is left in the dark and why the resistance to the CFL? Historical Significance The incandescent light bulbs dates back to Thomas Edison s 1879 design which was a marvelous invention for the 19th Century. The incandescent light bulb heats a filament by electric resistance inside a sealed glass globe and makes the thin tungsten wire glow white hot (Luoma, 1991). The incandescent blub is very inefficient because only 10% of the electricity flowing into the filament becomes light and the remaining nine tenths is lost at heat (Luoma, 1991). A standard blub is hot to the touch because it expends more than 90% of the electrical energy keeping its tungsten filament hot enough to glow (Roodman, 1993). A more advanced alternative to the standard incandescent light bulb is the CFL. Fluorescent tubes, developed in the 1930 s, utilize a chemical physical process involving the ionization of argon gas (Luoma, 1991). The fluorescent bulbs use one fifth to one third as much electricity to deliver the same number of lumens as conventional incandescent light bulbs (Petrowski, 1995). However, fluorescent s adaptability to everyday household lamps have been hampered by the bulkiness of its long tubes and by problems with flickering and unpleasant light. With ... Board of Education, in practice they remained largely segregated due to trends in housing and neighborhood segregation. Due to patterns of residential segregation, busing became a principal tool for promoting school desegregation, by which minority students were transported to largely white schools and white students were brought to largely minority schools. The book In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez is a historical fiction novel written to tell the tale of the Mirabal sisters and their struggle against a dictator in the Dominican Republic. As women, the sisters were objects of discrimination by the dictator s regime. Their struggle against obstacles forced consequences upon them for speaking their minds in a censored society. Through Mate Mirabal, the youngest sister, we see a shift in characterization from a cautious adolescent to a strong woman who helps change her country. Joining the rebellion and spending time in jail changed Mate into a courageous person. In In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez uses the change in Mate s characterization to describe the impact of oppression and people s need to have their voice heard. During her first year at boarding school, Mate is portrayed as a shy girl who is unable to stand up for herself. This is shown when Mate is unable to keep some girls from making fun of her. The head of the Pre Crime department, John Anderton (Tom Cruise), rolls a ball off a desk which is caught by Witwer before it can fall onto the ground. Anderton asks Witwer why he caught the ball, to which he responds, Because it would have fallen off the desk. Anderton retorts that by Witwers logic, there is not definitive proof that the ball would have indeed rolled off the table despite Witwers prediction. Nevertheless, he asserts that such is the case of the Pre Crime system which knows beyond reasonable doubt that the would be criminals would become criminals. • 36. Overview of Free Trade Barriers Throughout history nations have utilized trade barriers such as tariffs and embargoes to regulate trade among other nations (Bartlett, 1998). The purpose of such trade barriers was to provide safeguards for a nation s imports and exports. The philosophy surrounding the use of trade barriers has changed from time to time with there being periods when they were used extensively and periods when they were abandoned entirely. Prior to the First World War international trade was flourishing and although tariffs were being used by a variety of nations they did little to discourage trade. During and after the War, however, trading barriers between nations put heavy burdens on international trade and by the time that the Great Depression struck world trade had reached a point of near stagnation (Madsen, 2001). The United States and Great Britain in the waning days of the Second World War recognized that a resumption of international trade was necessary in order to assist the war torn European economy. In an attempt to avoid the heavy trade barriers that were in operation prior to the War, the United States injected millions of dollars in aid in order to induce world trade. Such measures worked for a short period but a more permanent solution was necessary and there was a split of opinion on what the permanent solution should be. The attempts at reaching a solution became the source of considerable debate and as time progressed the situation became quite acrimonious. The concept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dependent variable is the incarceration rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. To control for these variables, we also measured the violent crime rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. The violent crime rate allows us to see whether or not crimerate or judges are having a measurable effect on the incarcerationrate. Without controlling for the crime rate, we would not be able to tell if higher incarceration rates were truly a result of elected judges, as crime rate would also be playing a significant part. This is because it could be purely coincidental that violent crimerates are higher in states that also elect judges. Therefore, if we didn t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The value of each variable is the number of people who are incarcerated per 100,000 people. No mathematical equation or changes were made before entering it into the SPSS program, our statistical test. For our data, we chose to control for the violent crime in each state. We did this by using the violent crime rate, which was measured similarly to the incarceration rate. We measured it by every 100,000 people for each of the 50 states. In order to code this, we used a range of 0 100,000. The variable can be anywhere within the range and only represents the number of individuals who have committed violent crime per 100,000 people per state. No type of equations or recoding was done before we entered this data into the SPSS program. We used a linear regression as the statistical test to prove our hypothesis. We chose to run a linear regression because the dependent variable, the incarceration rate, had more than two values that could be used. This is because the incarceration rates could range anywhere from 0 to 100,000 people. Therefore, it only made sense to use the linear regression. As seen, the independent variable was whether a state elected or appointed judges. Further, the violent crime rate (per 100,000 people) was the control variable. With the data above, we can conclude that our hypothesis (which asserts that states that elect judges are more likely than those who appoint judges to have higher ... Modelling And Verification Of Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks Essay Modelling and Verification of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks Anvay Kumar Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering The University of Auckland Auckland, New Zealand akmu584@aucklanduni.ac.nz Abstract A step towards the research of wireless time triggered networks was taken with the development of a new safety critical wireless protocol called the Time Triggered New Zigbee (TTNZ) protocol. The methodology for developing the TTNZ protocol involved Model Driven Engineering (MDE) and a tool called TimeMe which is an IEC 61499 standard compliant software. MDE overcomes the limitations of the traditional approach which does not guarantee consistent performance during the design and development phases of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) [1]. This safety critical wireless protocol, TTNZ, does not take into consideration the irregularities of the physical (PHY) layer. The current project is undertaken to consider the issue of timeliness with PHY layer abnormalities and accordingly use a measurement or testing based approach to verify timeliness. Index Terms TTNZ, Timeliness in Wireless Sensor Networks, PHY layer abnormalities. Introduction Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are revolutionizing the way people interact with the physical world. When looking at the different options available to me in Blake s volumes, Holy Thursday (both the Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience versions) demonstrated this duality clearly. These children would be brought to the church by their parish officers, serving approximately six thousand children. Both poems focus on this procession of children to the cathedral, describing the state of the children and the varying attitudes towards the event itself. Evans (1989) suggested that the basis for Bandura s theories came from work completed by researchers Miller and Dollard (1941) who suggested that human development is actively influenced by response consequences (Evans, 1989, p. 4), but regardless of the impetus for Bandura s work, he is most known for his work regarding aggressionin children. Therefore, from a human developmental perspective, the self efficacy characteristic can aid students in comprehending the link between current behavior and future consequences (Evans, 1989). Bandura also noted that there were four distinct processes that influence a child s behavior attention, retention, motor reproduction and motivation. During the attention phase, a child will observe behaviors conducted around them and if this attention is thorough enough, the child will absorb the reactions and reasons for the aggressive behavior modeled. Bandura believed that the second stage, retention, is also vitally important because it is this re enactment that causes the behavior to be transferred to the long term memory of the child. Of course, even if the child has memorized the actions, they still need to have the physical attributes necessary to reproduce an action they have seen, but there is little physical dexterity needed to hit or punch something (Isom, 1998). The final phase of this process is the motivation for the behavior. In Bandura s experiment the children observed an adult praised for behaving badly, and this is enough, under Bandura s theory, to cement those actions into a repeatable response by the child at a later stage. Bandura believes this theory also supports the rise in the number of aggressive teens in high crime areas (Isom, 1998). It is this correlation between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Between the years of 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rougeparty leader, Pol Pot seized power of Cambodiaand forced civilians of urban regions into rural lands for labor in order to build his own agrarian utopia. Over the course of these four years, the Cambodians and other minor ethnic groups suffered through labor camps, starvation, and torture which all led up to their demise. As a result of these mass killings, the country s population depleted by over 20 percent in just a few years. The country went through hardship during and even before the genocide began including wars, torment, and considerable numbers of deaths. Cambodia is a country located within Southeast Asia and is bordered by the countries of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. After being a French protectorate for nearly a century, on 9 November 1953, Cambodia regained its full independence. • 52. Adeline Last Letter I received this letter this morning and it fills me with pride and joy to find out Adeline is well and is working her way closer and closer to achieve her goals. She is doing what she had always dreamt of doing and is now taking her first major step by going to university, she has worked so hard despite all the hardships she has faced. It killed me a little inside to watch her be pushed away as though she is nothing, she knows they don t want her and no child should ever go through that. That cruel Niang always picking on her, she has Joseph wrapped around her finger, she manipulates him and he is too naive to realise, he thinks she is doing the right thing by him and his children, yet deep down I think he knows what she is doing, however, ... Adeline had told me about her, about the storm she was trying to walk home in when they kindly offered to drop her home, it was a small gift of thanks. But that was what got poor Adeline caught and accused of these absurd things and to be punished for something that couldn t cause any harm, it was a birthday party for crying out loud... Let the girl live a little! you only get one life. Although she denied telling me their plans that they had informed her of once she had been caught, I could tell what they had in store for us, or for her... Sending her away from me, from my bad influence, how dare they think that. I have only ever put my all into protecting her and trying to give her the love and affection a young child needs and deserves. How much I would pay to see her again, to see what she has become of, I never saw what everyone saw, the young broken girl with the horrible clothes, I saw a beautiful, intelligent and strong women who has faced more horrendous things then most grown people will see in their whole entire life, to hear the sound of her tinkling laugh and see her beaming smile that hid all her troubles brought me so much pride.I love her more than anything, I love her like she is my own ... • 53. Film Analysis Of The Movie Ex Machina In this essay I will be taking an in depth look at the movie Ex Machina, and analyzing scenes of the film and look for a deeper meaning and possible foreshadowing of things to follow in the film. In the film Ex Machina, we are led to believe that the main points in the film are AI s and testing whether they can be conscious, have emotions and basically have all the qualities and traits a human portrays. Caleb who is believed to be chosen at random by Nathan to take part in being the person to test the AI, realizes that is all, but random as Nathan had a purpose in choosing Caleb to take part in his tests. A test as to whether the AI in the film, Ava can break the communication barrier with Caleb her during sessions that Nathan had set up.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caleb s room that he arrives in shortly after, has no windows and Nathan simply explains that it s a research facility and windows are not needed, and he has a lot of things in his facility that he can t take the chance of them being seen or exposed to someone on the outside. While it may be somewhat accurate according to Nathan and the situation, I think the windowless rooms and the off limit rooms are to give off a sense of seclusion to the audience and also to Caleb in the film, as it helps contribute to his eventual meltdown towards the end of the movie. Another deeper aspect revolves around the relationship formed between Caleb and Ava, as well as how much Nathan knows about their relationship and everything he has to do with them having feelings for each other and his awareness of it. At first, you realize the power outages and you question as to whether Nathan is watching or not, because surely he knows Ava has something to do with it and he s not stupid enough to just let them happen and lose those few moments of knowing what they are talking about. Later, we see that Nathan does indeed know and sets up his own cameras, but the more I thought the more I wondered if he let them happen on purpose to get them to confess certain things to each other in those moments. Nathan being a programmer and a pretty smart guy, surely, he could fix the power outages ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Green Tea As A Treatment For Cancer In 2737 B.C., the day was pleasant as Emperor Shen Nung sat beneath a tree sipping hot water. The slight breeze rippled through the tree above him, sending twirling leaves cascading all around him. Sipping his tea, he noticed a leaf had fallen into it, changing the color slightly and giving the hot water a slightly bitter, yet refreshing taste (Nerz Stormes). Whether or not this ledged depicting how tea was discovered is true, it sets the stage for the deep history and tradition that revolves around this world wide drink. Cultures that consume green tea have believed in its healing properties and treated it as both a beverage and a medicine for countless generations. Within these cultures, its common belief that green tea can increase longevity, treat diabetes, and even prevent cancer. The question that really got me interested in the direction of this topic was does green tea really have the ability to prevent or work as a treatment for cancer. Green tea has been a major part of Japanese cultures throughout history, both for leisure as well as medicine. There are people who devote their lives to learning The Way of Tea, a long ceremony that involves brewing and sharing tea with guests as well as appreciated nature. In recent years, some researchers aware of the correlation between Japanese culture and longevity started doing scientific research on its validity in terms of medicine. The antioxidants, specifically catchins, as well as the vitamins and potassium in green tea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. George Washington, John Adams, And Thomas Jefferson George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Not only is this a list of US Presidents but it is also a list of three of the most well known Founding Fathers. Yes, they have their reasons to be because each one of them have numerous achievements and have accomplished many things that others have not. But one Founding Father often over looked, and not just because he stands five feet four inches tall, is James Madison. With all due respect, James Madison has accomplishments that stand just as well against the test of time. James Madison to me is one of the most important Founding Fathers. Please allow me to explain why I chose Mr. James Madison, the background and upbringing of him, some of his most notable contributions to the Unites States and why those contributions are still important today. The reason I chose James Madison over the rest of the Founding Fathers is because I believe he isn t as well known as he should be and with that being said, would like to inform you about him. Madison has accomplished many great things in his life that have had an effect on the United States as we know it today. Undoubtedly the biggest contribution that Madison made to the United States of America was the he was the author of the draft that was used to create the Constitution and without the constitution there really wouldn t be a frame of government. Another reason I chose James Madison is because he fought for religious freedom, believing it was an individual s right from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
