Organizational Strategies and Change
TERM PAPER ON ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGIES AND CHANGE AMAL ALTAF
MOHAMMAD ALI JINNAH UNIVERSITY ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to
summarize several strategies and describe how these strategies can help bring about changes in an
organization. The authors show how different strategies can be used for successful implementation
of change process. The article compares the four level strategies, namely functional level strategy,
business level strategy, corporate level strategy and global strategy. There are many strategies to
bring about a change in an organization but the most commonly used strategies are summarized in
this article. An organization is a group of people working together to achieve a common goal. As...

вћў Monitoring product or service markets so that strategies conform to the needs of the markets
at the current stage of evolution. The strategies in business level are: 1) Cost leadership strategy
The cost leadership strategy emphasizes having the lowest costs, not necessarily the lowest
price, in a market. A firm attempting to realize a low cost strategy should stress resources that
facilitate efficiency. A firm that has successfully achieved a low cost position will have the
lowest costs relative to competitors. A firm can use such a position to either lower its prices and
gain market share and sales from rivals or keep its prices at the present market level and make
relatively more profit per unit sold. The key idea is that cost and price are independent choices,
and this strategy is focused on cost. 2) Differentiation The differentiation strategy focuses on
developing a unique product or a perception of a unique product that customers are willing to pay
a premium for. If a firm is not receiving a premium price for its goods or services it is not a
differentiator. A firm seeking to follow a differentiation strategy should attempt to develop and
enhance its resources that promote customer responsiveness, quality, and/or innovation. Note that
costs are still important to a differentiator because it is possible that the costs of making the product
unique will be greater than the premium consumers are

Roles Within The Organization s Governance Model
Introduction The Hospital Sisters Health Systems consist of four different divisions within two
states and have a total of 13 hospitals, along with a large physician group. The organization was
originally run by a group of nuns. However, the nuns have formed a board to oversee the
governance of HSHS to ensure they continue to meet the high expectations and mission
originally designed by the founding convent in 1875. As the hospital system has grown the
governance board has also grown and now has several key members listed on its organizational
chart. Each of the roles is essential in creating uniformed quality facilities throughout not only the
divisions but the entire HSHS system. The governance board assists in many areas, including
HIT decisions and upgrades. This paper will discuss the governance of HSHS, various roles
within the organization s governance model, the HIT decision making process, and an example of
HIT implementation within the HSHS EWD. Hospital Governance Sister Bernadine Gutowski is
one of a few nuns that belong to the Third Order of St Francis. She works as a secretary within the
Hospital Sisters Health Systems (HSHS) and recently discussed with me the history of our
organization and the changes it has endured. HSHS was originally ran by a group of nuns that
belonged to the Third Order of St. Francis in 1875. At that time, they began serving the community
by nursing sick and poor people within their homes. Since then they have expanded their health

Failures Of The Articles Of Confederation
In 1776, the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was formally adopted.
The American Revolution had already been going on with the battles of Lexington and Concord
over a year prior, but the first government of the United States is the Articles of Confederation, a
constitution based on Republican ideas and democracy. The Continental Congress approved the
Articles of Confederation in 1777. It was adopted, written by John Dickinson, but there was a
delay in ratifying it by the states. States like Virginia and Massachusetts had claimed a bunch of
land stretching from the East Coast all the way to the Pacific Ocean as part of their colonial
charters. States like Maryland and Pennsylvania, who did not have these land claims, did not want
to ratify this new national government until the land is relinquished. It was not until in 1781 when
the states officially ratified the Articles of Confederation. From 1781 to 1789, the Articles of
Confederation failed and had created problems in political, economic, and foreign policies, making
this new national government an ineffective government. The Articles of Confederation is a

Elizabethan Era Research Paper
The Elizabethan era ran from 1558 1603. The reason it is named Elizabethan is because Elizabeth
I was on the English thrown at the time. The arts flourished under the control of Elizabeth I. The
Queen was an excellent scholar and a keen supporter of all the arts including theatre. Her personal
love for poetry, music and drama encouraged a period where it was fashionable for wealthy
members of the public to support and appreciate the arts.
Historians often think of the Elizabethan times as the golden age in English History. It was the
highlight of the English Renaissance where the arts were explored in depth. The Elizabethan era is
well known for theatre. The most famous playwright of the time was of course, William
Shakespeare. He and others

Homeless Man Homeless
I am in a large crowd in New York City. There are many people in this crowd. Some are in a
hurry, and others are simply walking slowly, at a near stop. The people in a hurry are bumping into
the slower ones, and mumbling some rude things under their breath. The slower ones seem not to
care or notice.
Some stop to give a homeless man with a sign money, and others tell him to go get a job and to
stop robbing people blind. The man sits there, and starts to tear up. If you ask him, he ll tell you
why he s there, and it surely isn t to rob people of their money. I can t believe how rude people can
be. Then you might see people singing and playing instruments, getting more money than the
homeless man. The way the world is today makes

China Labor Watch ( Clw )
CHINA LABOR WATCH Founded by labor activist Li Qiang in 2000, China Labor Watch (CLW)
is a powerful and independent non profit organization dedicated to protecting the workers rights in
China. With the support of the media and the labor organizations, CLW conducts deep
investigations and publishes the reports about the sub standard working conditions and wages in
factories in China. The reports not only create awareness among the world community, but also put
pressure on the corporations to improve conditions for workers.
Apple s Supplier Foxconn, came under intense scrutiny for its suspicious labor practices and
suicide by its fourteen young workers at the Foxconn Shenzhen factory in 2010, followed by the
explosion in Chengdu factory resulting in 3 deaths and sixteen injuries in 2011. In 2010 CLW
also reported about several violations of China labor laws based investigation collected through
off site interviews and from its own staff who had purposefully worked in Foxconn factories as
workers to gain real and accurate information. These reports puts a big question mark on the
supplier responsibility reports and standards set by Apple.
According to CLW, Apple is equally responsible for the China labor law violations and worker
suicides as its goal of profit maximization comes at the cost of brutal working conditions at foxconn
factories. This is because the quality and price of production material used in manufacturing is pre
determined according to the Apple

A Research Project On Colon Cancer
Research Project Outcome
Colon cancer claims the lives of 12 Australians each day and is the second largest cancer killer
(1). Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer in the Australian population after the age
of 50. It is essential that Australian men and women are aware of the aggressiveness and severity
of the disease (2) and the primary preventative methods. The Indigenous Australian population, in
comparison to the non indigenous population, have a higher prevalence of the disease and
experience higher mortality rates (3). Due to the lack of medical resources and awareness, men
and women living in rural areas have an increased risk of developing colon cancer (4). For these
reasons, I have decided to conduct an investigation on the significance, the primary preventative
methods and the impact they can have on the health and awareness of the Australian population.
I conducted my initial research by investigating the internet and books, both of which
encompassed the anatomy of the stomach and allowed me to gather a greater understanding of
Colon Cancer. Bowel cancer is a malignant growth that develops most commonly in the lining of
the large bowel. The vast majority of bowel cancers develop from growths called polyps . Not all
polyps become cancerous. The larger that a polyp grows, the more likely it is to become
malignant (cancerous). Polyps can be easily re moved without surgery by a procedure called a
colonoscopy (inspection of the bowel with a

The Dangers Of Sea Turtles
Sea turtles have a unique place in world s oceans. The way they migrate and reproduce makes them
fascinating to learn about, but also it makes them very vulnerable to environmental problems.
Human development of beaches, fishing practices, and other environmental threats are threatening
sea turtles across the world. In this paper I will describe the types of sea turtles and some of the
special things about how they live and reproduce. Then, I will talk about some of the threats that
they face. Finally, I will discuss possible solutions to helping them thrive in the modern world.
Types of Sea TurtlesThere are several types of sea turtles in the world. Each of them has a long
migration pattern, and each has declined greatly in population recently. For instance, the loggerhead
sea turtle can migrate as much as 10,000 miles. Their populations have declined massively and
there is a high risk that they will become extinct in the Pacific Ocean within the next 60 years.
The leatherback sea turtle differs from other types in that it has a soft shell and other adaptations
that allow it to survive in cold environments. It has faced large declines and may become extinct
within the next several decades. Hawksbill sea turtles are found in tropical regions and rely on
healthy reefs for survival. The shells of these turtles are very desirable and it has a led to poaching
in the past. Olive Ridley sea turtles are the most abundant on earth with the largest nesting area in
India. The

the invention of the wheel to flying cars of the future. Increasing our machining ability, will allow
us, as a human race, to be able to consume less time and be more productive. More woodworking
and construction companies should use computers in their work to save time and money, while
increasing the quality of the product. Humankind has used tools for quite some time, but
throughout most of our history our ability to perform tasks was limited by our strength and

Please read the TOWN of EDEN BAY case study on pages 91 92 of your textbook and answer the 4
questions listed at the end of page 92. Make sure to properly justify your answers.
1. Upon investigation, you learn that the town does not have a strategic plan or mission statement.
in your view, does this affect the current situation? Why or why not?
* In my point of view, I think yes without a strategic plan this might affect their current situation;
because having a spreadsheet this make their work more difficult for them. Having a strategic
plan is very important because it helps them to provide direction and focus for all employees.
Also, to have a strategic plan you can follow it in order to achieve the goal that you plans for ...

Question 3, Refer to the general steps of preliminary investigation (listed in figure 2 17, page 72)

One of the first steps involved in carrying out a preliminary investigation include understanding the
problem or opportunity in sight. The analyst must first identify which department, users and
business processes the system request is involved in to evaluate and assess the causes and effects
related in the proposed system. Defining the project scope and constraints is the second step. With
clear indications of the projects boundaries or extent the project scope is determined, while the
requirements or conditions the system must confer to or achieve determine the projects constraints.
The third step in a preliminary investigation consists of fact finding techniques, that involve the
analyses of charts, interviews with users, managers and review of documents , observing operations
and finally user surveys. Followed by the fourth step that includes the process of evaluating
feasibility. This step consists of evaluating the feasibility of the proposed projects operational,

Slow The Aging Process
A majority of people tend to object to exercise during the adolescent years because the individual
is in the early stages of life where they are not fully developed. Exercise is not simply made for
its look good, feel good sensation that it provides; it is positively correlated to longer life
expectancies, which we associate to healthy lives. One of the most important businesses to help out
with exerciseare the healthclubs that are increasing in popularity as time goes on. The gym industry
thrives off of their clientele, who pay, on average, fifty eight dollars per month for membership,
where thirty nine of those dollars go to waste from under utilization (Gym Membership Statistics).

lifting weights has on the brain, as it does the muscles of the body, in order to demonstrate that

Community Observation Report
Community service is services volunteered by individuals or an organization to benefit a
community or its institutions. My favorite community service job that I completed was located at
The Junior Achievement at the Atlanta Discovery Center. The objective of this service was to teach
children how to survive and succeed in the world economically through the use of time, talent,
cooperation, and education. Before they came to the center students were trained by their teachers
to budget money and to spend it wisely. So when they finally arrived, a real life model was
presented to them. With the compelling volunteer and student interaction, we helped each student
understand the theory to life and also understand the differences between needs and wants. The
building was set up with different mini department stores like Chick fil A, Publix, philanthropy
shop, SunTrust bank, home/apartment agencies, automobile shop, Belk, Kaiser Permanente, and
AT T. These shops were to help the students understand manage the differences between what they
really needand what they really want. In addition, the goal was to also help build character and
skills to make it in the fast moving real world. Before the volunteer work began the director of
the center sat us in the room and trained us, with the use of a PowerPoint on the tasks that we
would be performing. First, she assigned us a store, and some people had to share stores because
some jobs involved printing. I was assigned the

Anthropology Is A Study Of Humankind
Anthropology is a study of humankind in all places at all times as one may say it is an observer
of human mind. This essay will critically discuss the following keys. Firstly, it will start by defining
the term holistic than it will critically discuss the statement which says why anthropology has been

linguistic anthropology, socio cultural anthropology, physical or biological anthropology, and
archaeological anthropology by linking them with the above statement explaining their role in
making the discipline holistic. Lastly, it will conclude by refreezing the important aspects that this

languages (Nzozo, 2013). One might also describe it as an analytic and descriptive branch of how
language was used in the past by a collective of people. Thirdly, ethno linguistic inspects the

A Separate Peace Tree
A tree in John Knowles s A Separate Peace, symbolizes the true strengths and weaknesses of two
boys relationship during World War Two. This specific tree really corresponds with what is
doing on with the two boys relationship. When the tree is big and strong the boy s relationship
is really thriving. Once the tree starts to lose branches and weakens the two boy s relationship
starts to weaken as well. Which is implemented all over the book with weak moments in their
relationship and strengths. In the first chapter, Finny and Gene s relationship is strong and this is
represented by the healthy tree branch they and the other boys jump off of into the lake. Gene is
not normally the type of person to just jump out of a tree, but he is willing to because of his trust
in Finny. Despite his own fear, Gene trusts Finny enough to jump. Gene says, With the sensation
that I was throwing my life away, I jumped into space (17). This demonstrates that the trust
between the two boys is very strong because Gene is willing to do things that he is not
comfortable with. Since Finny was there by his side he has no problem doing it. Gene and Finny s
relationship is able to thrive when it is healthy like the tree branch that they jump off.... Show more

progressively gets weakened over time just like the branches that fell from the tree. This incident
causes for their relationship to weaken to the lowest point because Finny s never able to fully

The magistrate are God fearing gentlemen, but merciful overmuch, that is a truth, added a third
autumnal matron. At the very least, they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne

cover it with a brooch, or such like heathenish adornment, and so walk the streets as brave as ever!

Chapter 4, paragraph 18Roger Chillingworth to Hester Prynne.
This quote almost makes you feel sympathy in a way for Roger Chillingworth. It s depressing.
Here on this wild outskirt of earth, I shall pitch my tent for, elsewhere a wanderer, and isolated from
human interests, I find here a woman, a man, a child, amongst whom and myself there exist the

We find out how much Roger and Hester have in common. They are both holding a deep secret,
they are unhappy and they both have a very desirable skill and both live on the outskirts of this
Puritan society.

Blood chilling screams, families torn apart, horrifying murders are all parts of the Holocaust.
David Faber, a courageous, young man tortured in a Nazi concentration camp shares the horrors
he was exposed to, including his brother Romek s murder, in the book Because of Romek, by
himself David Faber. When Nazis invaded his hometown in Poland during World War II, David
remained brave throughout his father s arrest and his struggle to stay alive in the concentration

We have to hope, she [David s mother] whispered, that s all that s left (Faber, 28). David s

because he knew his mother wanted him to survive. During David s stay at the concentration

Lady Midnight was amazing. It is probably Clare s best work to date and that is saying something.
There was something about Lady Midnight that was different from her other books, I think it had to

Mark, Mark, Mark. Okay I loved Mark. He broke my heart it was. It has gone through so much and

The one thing that I love about Clare s writing is that she can create so many different point of
views, but they all sound so different. It s done wonderfully in Lady Midnight and I cannot wait to
read more about these characters.
What I also love about Lady Midnight is that we find out things that we didn t know before about
the world it gives us an insight on laws, people, and events that are new to us.
That ending though I don t know how I am going to hold off to book 2, because seriously it was

Swimmer Brock Turner Rape Case Study
Envision the best collegiate football player you know. There s a good chance his fame is attributed
to how aggressive he is, praised for his no mercy attitude. While this mentality suits the field, it can
translate onto college campuses, where many student athletes are recruited to play for the school. A
case study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania revealed that certain environments
encourage aggression over others. Societies with higher levels of male dominance, tolerance of
violence, and greater gender segregation tended to fall into this category. Now recall that collegiate
football player. Sound familiar?
Despite having hundreds of sexual assault cases each year, most colleges take little action to
resolve these cases. In fact, only 20% of female sexual assault survivors report cases, the rest
believing that it was too personal to share, or that if they did, the police wouldn t listen to them. If
they did report, often times it was to the local police rather than the campus police in fear that they
would be shamed or turned away by the universities.

The Great Flood Impact On The Economy
Savannah throughout June and July 1840 was highly characterized by the economy, political life,
agriculture, and new advances in the practicing of medication. Not to say that only one product
play a role in the economy, but during this period, cotton was, figuratively, the ruler of Georgia. It
fueled the growth and expansion of the state s economy. However, with cotton being the most
desirable cash crop at the time, the lack of diversity in the economic lifeline did not help when
disaster struck and that was the only thing the city had to fall back on. The Great Flood had a
devastating impact on the economy in early June. It led to an economic depreciation due to all of

The cities of Macon and Savannah were good teammates in 1840. Cotton was shipped from Macon
and made its way along the Ocmulgee River using a steamboat to then take a small trip north in the
Ocean to Savannah s large port. With Savannah being the largest city in the state, the construction
of the Central of Georgia Railway was encouraged. This railway would connect the two cities,
Macon and Savannah, and greatly help to increase the speed of the transportation of cotton and
recourses from inland to sea. This would also put Savannah more on the map when discussing
important worldwide ports. One thing was made clear in the life of politics and that was that white
men wanted to keep the institution of slavery alive. Galvanizing the establishment of slavery was a
judicial system that deprived African Americans the same or any legal rights enjoyed by Caucasian
Americans. All of the northern states had outlawed slavery back in 1820, but the rise of cotton
made the enormous profits of the slave system irresistible to most white southerners. Relations
regarding were further reinforced by the universal racial bond among white Georgian men. Sharing
the intolerance that slaveholders held against African Americans, non slaveholding whites believed
that the abolition of slavery would annihilate their own economic prospects and bring devastation

kind , but more specifically to the culture of the period in which it originated meant the notion of
excellence and the fulfillment of one s purpose and/or function: in other words, the act of living up
to one s full potential .
Example: Aeneas, from the Aeneid, is an example of someone who possesses the foundational
aspects of the Arete philosophy. As a Trojan leader, Aeneas respects prophecy and attempts to
incorporate the idea of his own destiny into his actions, in spite of emotional impulses that conflict
with his fated duties. His ability to accept his destined path despite his unhappiness in doing so
makes him a graceful hero and a worthy recipient of the honor and favor the gods bestow upon
him. His compassion for the sufferings of others, even in conjunction with a single minded
devotion to his duty, is another aspect of his heroism. Sympathetic to the weariness of others on the
journey, he delivers speeches to his fleet to keep the men s spirits high.
Aristeia*
A scene in the rhetorical devices of epic poetry where a hero in battle has his most excellent and
glorified points. Aristeia can be the effect of the loss of life for the protagonist.
Example 1: Book 5 of the Iliad is an example of aristeia, in which Diomedes prays to Athena for
revenge, and the goddess endows him with superhuman strength and the extraordinary power to
discern gods on the field of

Vonnegut Dehumanization
In God Bless You Mr. Vonnegut: Learning Civics from Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Paul J. Ramsey
discusses recurring themes in the works of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. One major theme that occurs
throughout Vonnegut s work is how informal social norms such as dehumanization and apathy
towards suffering perpetuate violence. This occurrence is explored in several science fiction
stories: The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin, A Party Down at the
Square by Ralph Ellison, as well as Vonnegut s own Harrison Bergeron and Welcome to the
Monkey House . The dehumanization and objectification in these stories is a relevant and
accurate critique of informal social norms in society and an effective examination of how such
norms spread violence. Violence is supposed to be nonexistent in Le Guin s fictional society
Omelas. The reader is introduced to a seemingly utopian society. As the story progresses, however,
Le Guin reveals that Omelas survival is entirely dependent on violence. To keep... Show more

In Harrison Bergeron apathy toward violence is taken to the extreme by dumbing humanity down
to point that a child s own parents are barely affected by their son s death. This demonstrates how
the normalization of violence and dehumanization keeps the powerful in power. Just as Diana
Moon Glampers exerts excessive control so does the government in Welcome to the Monkey House
. By removing people s sexual desires, they have in a way dehumanized them. This dehumanization
is also seen in the government s promotion of ethical suicide, demonstrated in the population

2.2Proteins involved in Contractile machinery out of India.
2.2.1Actin Actin was first observed experimentally by Halliburton (1887), who extracted a protein
from muscle that coagulated preparations of myosin that he called myosin ferment . Straub
(1942) developed a novel technique for extracting muscle protein that allowed to isolate
substantial amounts of relatively pure actin. This protein existed in two forms: globular actin (G
actin) that was stable in the absence of salt, and in the presence of ions it polymerized to form
fibrous actin (F actin) is explained by Straub (1943). Actin became well known as a supplement to
the Acta Physiologica Scandinavica , when the paper was published by Szent Gyorgyi (1945). Then

Formal Diagnostic Analysis
Classification of mental disorders keeps improving and changing over time with the goal of
providing more accurate diagnosis and proper intervention. As guides for clinician, the formal
Diagnostic Statistical Manual has categorical description of a variety of illnesses that are classified
based on symptoms (Kite, Gullifer Tyson, 2012). Recently, the new version of the DSM raises
many controversies since it suggests merging Asperger syndromeinto the category of autismdisorder
to reduce confusion and therefore eliminating their differentiation. Their common diagnosis would
now include early delayed linguistic and cognitive development which is only the case for autism
but not for Asperger. For some researchers this slight difference create... Show more content on

The disorder may manifest differently but they presumably have the same biological basis (Frith,
2004). Beside the genetic argument, the outcome of high functioning autism adult is almost
indistinguishable to individual with Asperger to the point that it is difficult to view them
separately. High functioning autism in adulthood without delay in language development is similar
to adult who previously diagnosed with autism and delayed language development. A study
analyzing neuro anatomic structure of the brain finds out that autism and Asperger could be cause
by abnormalities in mini columnar organization and suggests that they may share similar biological
pattern regardless the intelligence. Individuals suffering from autism or Asperger have smaller mini
columns in brain and more dispersed cells than normal functioning individuals. Given this clinical
overlap between the two disorders, it is difficult to tell them apart. Studies support their genetic and
neurobiological similarities (Frith,

Examples Of Racial Disparity In Sentencing
Racial Disparities in Sentencing In a country where many believe the hatchet of racism was
buried with its first black president, many people of color, both non black and black are still
frustrated and disappointed in the progress to be made. Many progressives prefer to see America
as a colorblind nation, a nation where if you work hard and do right, you ll fulfill the American
Dream. Often this dream is accompanied with challenge after challenge for people of color. Of
course what first must be asked is if racism is still present in our justice system and in the fabric
of our country? What must be understood first is that answers to these complex issues are never
black or white, which leaves far too much gray area to be discussed. In... Show more content on

It is important to realize that one of the greatest challenges that has been and is still currently
faced by people of color is the racial disparity in sentencing in the criminal justice system. As
seen by criminal justice reform agency, The Sentencing Project, Racial minorities are more
likely than white Americans to be arrested; once arrested, they are more likely to be convicted;
and once convicted, they are more likely to face stiff sentences ( Shadow Report to the United
Nations ). This can easily be interpreted by observing the data presented (see fig.1), according to
the Bureau of Justice Statistics, one in every three black males are likely to be imprisoned
within their lifetime and one in every six Latino males are likely to be imprisoned within their
lifetime as well, this in comparison to the fact that one in every seventeen white males are likely
to be imprisoned within their lifetime is quite disgraceful. Although it is very hard to swallow, this
is just one of the many harsh realities which face progressive America. This only helps in asking
the question, in this new progressive, post racial America is this racial gap in sentencing showing
any considerable decrease? One manner in which the racial gap can be understood is the fact that
whites commit certain crimes at a

High Fat Diet Bad For Mental Health
Introduction
For this assignment I am going to analyze the popular press article High fat diet bad for mental
health, may lead to depression featured in Tech Times Magazine. During which I will examine
their claim against the actual, scientific data in the Biological Psychiatry Journal. This analysis will
provide insight on how popular press articles may misinterpret a study and spread false information
to the public.
Summary: Tech Times Magazine
In the article the author, James Maynard, tried to interpret a study published by Biological
Psychiatry Journal on Obese type Gut Microbiota Induce Neurobehavioral Changes in the Absence
of Obesity. Maynard found that mice from the study were fed different types of foods: one high in
fat and the other in normal chow diet. The rats that were fed the fat enriched diet showed some
symptoms of anxiety and forgetfulness, while the other rats were seemingly okay. In these
findings, Maynard makes and Association claim that High fat diets can cause Depression and
other psychological risks. The article does not advocate for a change in diet, but does not give any
reference to other possible causes to the lab results.
Summary: Biological Psychiatry Journal

THE TREND OF THE FUTURE:
ELECTRIC CARS BY TESLA MOTORS
I. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
The concern for the environment has never been bigger than at the turn of the century. The
growing acceptance of global warming, coupled with the growing green marketing galore gave
impetus for the clamor for major auto companies to build a better and more affordable electric car.
This plus the unpredictable oil price spikes and hikes, is intensifying the race to build the ideal car
of the future at a greater height.
The poster child of the independent electric car movement has been Tesla Motors. When the

It would take about 9 days to get the same amount of energy from household electric current.
Fortunately, it takes hours and not days to recharge an electric car, because it s much more
efficient. And you never have to leave home to recharge!
Electric cars are extremely simple. There s no oil to change, no filters, no clutch, no fluids, no crazy
mechanical systems. This makes the electric car so much cheaper to operate because there s hardly
any maintenance, like oil changes and emissions checks, that internal combustion cars require.
Electric car cuts away our dependency on oil as well and frees us from the unpredictable oil price
hikes and spikes that are so common these days.
For the car savvy drivers, electric motors develop their highest torque from zero rpms meaning
fast (and silent) zero to 60 acceleration times. This means they snap to life at the touch of the
accelerator. It does 0 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, making electric cars the fastest cars in the world.
Electric cars can be direct drive, so there s no transmission or complex gearbox. Power is applied
smoothly and quietly. Acceleration is effortless.

Movie Analysis Of The Movie Precious By Sapphire
The movie Precious, is based off of the novel Push by Sapphire. In this movie, there is a 16 year
old girl named Precious. She is pregnant with her second child from her father, still in junior high,
and is morbidly obese. Not only that, but is continuously abused by her mother and father; verbally,
mentally, and physically. Throughout the movie, you can see that she has a red scarfeither around
her neck or around her arm. I believe this represents hope. The hope that Precious has for her own
life. Precious has hope about her education, and about her future. Precious, even though her
mother says it s dumb, still goes to the alternative school because she has a sense of hope that she
can be rescued and saved from her own world. Hope is evidently the only thing keeping Precious
moving. Hope means to love. What is there for Precious to have a love for? Its evident that she
doesn t have love for her family, but she seems to care about school. She also has love for her
unborn child. Though she probably doesn t love school, she is trying to do good not only for
herself but for her child. She feels this obligation for the kid to be in a slightly better environment
than her first child. This is shown in the scene when the social worker comes over for a home visit
and it shows how the child is treated by Precious mother before and after the visit. Precious
obviouslycan t say anything about the situation because she will get more than a rough talking.
School gives Precious a sense of hope and purpose for her future and for her baby. She talks
about all the hopes and dreams she has for the baby; the colours of the room and all the things
the baby will do when he/she gets older.Throughout all the trials and tribulations hope seems to
reign above all else. In the roughest of times, Precious has hope. Its seen after she left her mother
s house and the fight happened. She stilled dreamt and hoped for a better life ahead. Another
scene of the red scarf flowing in the dim and dark, black and white background of Harlem
symbolized that the only thing worth meaning (or colour) was her hope (the red scarf). Another
scene, Precious finds out she is HIV positive. Everything for her seems to come into realization.

Social Inequalities In Northern Ireland
Social inequalities are issues that have been occurring for a significant period of time and are
continuing to be a serious issue within contemporary society. One of the most significant social
inequalities within the North and South of Ireland is religion. Religion is a vital part of Ireland s
history and due to this history, it still very much exists within society and continues to be a social
inequality. The Northern Irelandconflict, also known as The Troubles, was a war based on political
violence, low intensity armed conflict and political deadlock within the six north eastern counties
of Irelandthat formed part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland which
lasted almost 30 years (The Irish Story, 2017). It was a conflict between political actors including
the Provisional Irish Republican Army that fought against the British Army, Royal Ulster
Constabulary and the Ulster Defence Regiment (The Irish Story, 2017). Dillenburger, K et al,
(2007) stated during the early phase of the Troubles, shootings and bombings were nearly daily
occurrences, with approximately 3,600 people dying as a result of The Troubles.
However, the Troubles represent a fascinating part of Ireland s history with a large number of
deaths, injuries, and destruction but also a huge political and social change (McKittrick and
McVea 2002). By 1998 the Good Friday Agreement was signed by both Nationalist and Unionists
as a peace process within Northern Ireland. Research carried out

Calvin Klein eventually dropped the $6 million dollar campaign after the advertisements were
accused of violating child pornography laws. On September 8 the Justice Department began

Klein spokeswoman stated that only one of the models used in their ads was under the age of 18.
The fifteen year old girl that was in his ads was Bijou Phillips, whose mother was aware of the ad

The Interior Of Dance Communication
The Interior of Dance
Communication is one of the basic elements of any society. In order for any a human being to
survive they must communicate meaning that humans are very sociable. Communication is
something that we have been learning since we were kids. It has become natural to
communicate in all situations. We ve learned to communicate in writing. Due to technology
becoming more advanced we not only write in the form of letters, but now we can send and
write to communicate to other people by text messaging, emailing, public speaking, and non
verbal communication. We have also learned to smile when we are happy, cry when the tough
gets going, and scream when danger is near. Throughout the years we have become more aware
of the things we say. We don t scream fire in a room full of people or we know that we don t talk
to our teacher the way we would talk to our friends. As we get older we become apart of different
groups. Without notice we become accustom to the rules, the way they communicate, and the ideas
and interest of the group, also known as a discourse community. I myself belong to a discourse
community. At the age of five, I discovered my passion. I knew then exactly what I know now, that
I am in love with dance. Dance helps me express myself in ways that I could not even imagine
being capable of doing verbally. It is my escape from the rest of the world because it puts me in a
place where I am completely comfortable. I don t know where I would be without it.

The second sculpture would be the one in the best condition in 100 years.
The school that would have the best view for the observation tower would be Northview
Elementary school. This school has an elevation above sea level of 835 feet. Benjamin Franklin
Middle School has an elevation of 796 feet above sea level. Hayes Leonard Elementary school
has an elevation of 728 above sea level. As seen in these elevations, Northview would have the
highest view point, with the added 40 feet of the observation tower, for the children to view the
weather patterns and clouds.
Scenario 2
The more difficult route of the two routes would be the one that starts 10 miles upstream and
ends up back in the town of Jim Thorpe. The elevation at the starting point of the more difficult
route is 765 feet and the ending point is 524 feet. The distance is 10 miles which means the
gradient is 24.1 feet per mile. The less difficult routes starting point elevation is 522 feet and
ending point is 386 feet. The distance was again 10 miles, this means the gradient is 13.6 feet per
mile. Gradient is found by taking the lower elevation and subtract that from the upper elevation,
then divide the difference by the distance. The route traveling to the town of Jim Thorpe has larger
gradient which means the water in this path will flow faster. The faster the water flows the more
difficult the path is. Therefore the more difficult path would be the path starting upstream and

Speech On Polar Bear
Land without ice is a very difficult environment for polar bears. This was proven by Canadian
photographer Paul Nicklen and Sea Legacy filmmakers when they arrived on Baffin Island in late
summer. They came face to face with a shocking sight a polar bear, starved and slowly dying.
We stood there crying filming with tears rolling down our cheeks, said Nicklen.
In the video, the polar bear was limping and hanging by a thread of life. The animal had a thin
and bony frame, covered with white fur, while its back legs were likely suffering from muscle
atrophy due to wasting. It rummaged a nearby trashcan used by Inuit fishers seasonally, however,
nothing was edible. The polar bear dejectedly collapsed on the ground, deprived of food.
Nicklen thought of helping the bear but without a tranquilizer gun or 400 pounds of seal meat, he
could do nothing. Also, feeding polar bears in Canada is illegal. Nicklen also considered not to
prolong the agony of the poor animal, instead, he recorded the bear s slow death from starvation.
When scientists say bears are going extinct, I want people to realize what it looks like. Bears are
going to starve to death. This is what a starving bear looks like, Nicklen stressed out.
The heartbreaking sight of the starving and dying polar beat was a sign on how deadly climate
change to mankind and animals. According to climate scientists, the Arctic region is melting way
too fast than at any time in the last 1,500 years. Some parts of the region

The Power of Personality in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson
Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things
that effect how people develop their character where they are from, which includes their financial
status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their
lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors.
Sylvia s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Her parents not
being around much leaves her without the attention and discipline that children need to develop to
their fullest. Lastly, her friends and Miss Moore also have a great influence on how ... Show more

Because Sylvia does not recognize her own faults, it would be expected that someone else might
see them and correct her appropriately. The problem though, is that Sylvia s parents are always
in a la de da apartment up the block having a good ole time, probably partying. Sylvia s parents,
mentioned infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with
their daughter. This is represented in Sylvia s behavior, for example, when she wants to steal
Ms. Moore s cab money and run to the bar b que. Although most of Sylvia s actions are
conceivably wrong, it would be inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is
impossible for any child to understand what is right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her.
Sylvia was probably not disciplines growing up and so her judgment of what is right or wrong is
based on her own opinions and her observations of what the other children in her neighborhood are
doing.
The children in the neighborhood are probably the most influential people in Sylvia s life, since
she is around them most frequently, and they are her peers. They too seem to come from the same
kind of background as Sylvia poor, defensive,

Department of Homeland Security
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is third largest Executive Department of the Federal
Government charged with protecting the security of American homeland. Its primary mission is to
prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reducing vulnerability to terrorism and
minimizing the damage from potential attacks and natural disasters. The DHS was created by
President G.W. Bush in the aftermath of terrorist attacks on America in 2001. It is relatively new
agency that continues to evolve in the 21st century. In my chosen topic I will perform research on
the history and creation of Department of Homeland Security, identify 3 of the 22 agencies within
the DHS and describe their responsibilities. The purpose of this paper is to define and give detailed
information about Homeland Security in the United States. Exploration of this topic will enhance
knowledge about DHS and help understand the responsibilities of the agencies. First article I
selected was written by Columbia University Press (2012), Homeland Security, United States
Department of. The author s research was taken from The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th
edition. Columbia University Press conducted a tremendous research that provides readers clear
insight on how and when the Department of Homeland Security was established and under what
circumstances. The author indicates that DHS was established in the aftermath of September 11,

Analysis Background
The Ocean s Eleven movie has been chosen for the analysis in this paper mainly because of its
unique storyline. Having a group of 11 people executing an indigenous plan to steal $150 million
from a vault shared by three Las Vegas Casinos. The executed plan will be examined and mapped
into a 7 stages kill chain construction.
In our analysis, we have adopted the 7 stages kill chain model (Hutchins et al., 2011) to describe
our mapping from an adversary engaging an attack for a specific target and/or data. Figure 2 shows
the adopted kill chain model. Kill Chain Progression
In this case, study we will discuss each stage of the kill chain model that are mapped to the story
snippet and analyze how it could be disrupted or reduced the chances of letting the adversary
successfully proceed to the next kill chain stage. In our analysis, we have taken into consideration
that some stages may occur in parallel and breaking the kill chain can be mitigated at any stage or
multi stages. Reconnaissance Stage
The adversary (Danny Ocean) has done a proper identification and selection of people with the
relevant talents and abilities. Each of them has different role and responsibility to execute in the
mission. The team has done a thorough research to understand the layout of the casinos (designed
to keep people in, hence need to determine quickest route out), be aware about every guard, watcher

EWMBA 299 Competitive Strategy
Southwest Airlines
Introduction
The domestic US airline industry has been intensely competitive since it was deregulated in 1978.
In a regulated environment, most of the cost increases were passed along to consumers under a
fixed rate of return based pricing scheme. This allowed labor unions to acquire a lot of power and
workers at the major incumbent carriers were overpaid. After deregulation, the incumbent carriers
felt the most pain, and the floodgates had opened for newer more nimble carriers with lower cost
structures to compete head on with the established airlines. There were several bankruptcies
followed by a wave of consolidation with the fittest carriers surviving and the rest being ... Show

The minimum efficient scale was not very high since airlines could choose to compete in a few
markets, and costs were more or less proportional to the number of flights offered and the number
of markets the airline wanted to operate in. The main consideration for profitable entry seemed to
be the ability of airlines to fill their airplanes above the breakeven point. In an industry fraught
with price competition, brand identity and reputation did not have significant value either. In the
airline industry, exit costs are not very high either. Planes could be easily redeployed to other
markets, or sold off, and gates and landing rights could be sub leased to other carriers.
Substitutes
There are a number of substitutes to air travel, especially over short distances. These include taking
other modes of transportation such as driving, taking the train etc., or not traveling at all. The use
of technology (like WebEx, NetMeeting, video conferencing etc.) that facilitates remote virtual
collaboration is becoming a good substitute for business air travel as well.
Supplier Power
The primary inputs to the airline industry include airplanes, labor and fuel. There are only two
major manufacturers (three at the time of the case Boeing, Airbus and McDonnell Douglas) for
large commercial aircraft. This, along with the relationship specific

My Favorite Month Of The Year
Oh, October, my favorite month of the year. For many reasons, October has my heart. It holds the
peak of Autumn, my dearest season. It is full of festivities such as pumpkin carving, haunted
houses, and of course the traditional dressing up on Halloween. It also holds a large amount of
anticipation for Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is debatably better than the holidays
themselves. This year, October holds these things along with much more for me. I have
experienced a lot this October, but this month seemed to be the light at the end of the tunnel, which
made a little sliver of light fall on some important parts of life; from learning the true importance of
patience and trust, to coming face to face with love.
Practicing patience has never been something I have been good at, in regards to anything, to be
honest. Although I m not very good at it, I usually try not to fret too much about how my life
seems to be going or if things aren t going the way I want them to, because I trust that the
universe will do what it needs to do in order to make me end up exactly where I m supposed to be. I
believe that the people who are meant to be in your life will always find their way back, no
matter how far either of you may wander. I happened to wander 5 hours away from home, to a
completely different state, yet it was still possible for this person to make their way back into my
life, almost an entire year later.
Up until this October, I had never experienced the idea of love that I

The West Memphis Three Case Analysis
The Case of the West Memphis Three involves the three teenage boys accused and convicted of
murdering Michael Moore, Stevie Branch, and Christopher Byers in West Memphis, Arkansas on
May 5th, 1993. The investigation, trial, and appeals that followed would put the Arkansas criminal
justice system under scrutiny for their actions. The West Memphis Police Department arrested and
charged Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelly, Jr. with the three boy s murders.
The entire case was under the constant watch of the media and brought a great deal of attention
to the actions and conduct of the West Memphis Police Department, as well as the Arkansas
criminal justice system. Many outsiders got involved with the West Memphis Three case. Among
these outsiders were famous musicians Eddy Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam and Natalie
Maines of the Dixie Chicks, famous actors including Johnny Depp, and superstar director Peter
Jackson. These celebrities helped to raise awareness of the case as well as to help raise money for
the West Memphis three to obtain appropriate post conviction representation and unbiased forensic
testing and analysis in the hopes of exonerating them of their convictions. While the new forensic
evidence (and the new testing and expert analysis of the original evidence) ultimately helped the
West Memphis Three become free men again, the question still remains as to who really murdered
those three boys on May 5th, 1993 in West Memphis, Arkansas. Because the

A hero is someone who is looked up to for their admirable qualities. Heroes come in all different
shapes and sizes and we all have them, whether they are police officers, firefighters, soldiers, or
even family members. When we were little, our idea of a hero was a bit different, we tended to
look up to fictional superheroes such as superman, batman, and the x men. We all loved to see
them kick their enemies butts episode after episode or page after page in a comic book. These
individuals were great inspirations to kids all around the world. But many of us forget, that not
all heroes work alone, some work as a group. The group of heroes that I always used to aspire to
emulate was the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Jason, Billy, Trini, Zack,

Educational Philosophy of John Dewey Essay
The Educational Philosophy of John Dewey John Dewey is known as leader of the progressive
movement in the history of the American education system and his book, Democracy and
Education: an introduction to the philosophy of education, could be used as a textbook to teach the
foundations of the movement. Discrediting all previous educational and philosophic approaches as
intellectually incomplete or inaccurate, Dewey first presents a new perspective on the nature of
knowledge, education, society and philosophy. One fundamental theme of Dewey s progressive
movement is that education is growth and that growth is, in and of itself, the objective. Rejecting
any notion of innate knowledge or of an ideal goal to strive for, the progressive... Show more

Societies can be, by definition, small associations of like minded individuals with narrow aims
or large nations with broad, diverse aims. Dewey offers two standards which can be applied to
assess the value of a society: How numerous and varied are the interests which are consciously
shared? How full and free is the interplay with other forms of association? By applying these two
questions, the natural conclusion of the ideal society is democratic, that is to say one that offers
its citizens the freedom of expression and communication. If a democracy represents an ideal
society that presents the maximum number of common interests and the maximum opportunities
for association with other societies, then it also represents the ideal society in its potential for
growth. Any society with a near limitless potential for growth must redefine the concept of
knowledge in order to gain efficiencies in its education system. Previous attempts at defining
knowledge were flawed, in the mind of the Progressivist, by directly stating or implying a
division or duality that presents a barrier to free intercourse of ideas. Examples of these dualities
are that of different classes within a society such as rich vs poor, noble vs lower class, ruler vs
ruled or that of the physical vs metaphysical worlds. Any duality serves to separate knowledge
from action, a continuity which is proclaimed as ideal. Any piece of

The Suffrage Of The Nineteenth Amendment
In the 1900 s women did not have the same rights as men. They weren t allowed to do certain
things and are not considered equal. Once women started to protest this, the whole nation got
involved and there were some disagreements. The amendment was first proposed in 1878 to
Congress but not seriously considered. In the early 1900 s a Representative proposed the Susan B.
Anthony Amendment to allow women the right to vote. After the amendment passed in the House
of Representatives, the Senate also passed the amendment. The vote then went to the states and it
was one shy state away from the two thirds requirement and it was all up to Tennessee to break the
vote. The decision was all up to Republican Harry T. Burn who was against the amendment but his
mom was the one to change his mind. With a change in Tennessee s vote the amendment officially
passed the nineteenth amendment on June 4, 1919. The whole question is who supported and who
opposed the passing of the nineteenth amendment? The people who obviously supported the
nineteenth amendment were the women across the nation. Some more than others but in some
way all women wanted to be treated equal. There were even some men who supported the
amendment like Frederick Douglass who was a former African American slave. Even though it
seems like a lot of people want this amendment to pass and agree to equal rights, there were people
who did oppose to the passing of the amendment. Being mostly men, an even bigger group
disagreed with

  • 2. Organizational Strategies and Change TERM PAPER ON ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGIES AND CHANGE AMAL ALTAF MOHAMMAD ALI JINNAH UNIVERSITY ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to summarize several strategies and describe how these strategies can help bring about changes in an organization. The authors show how different strategies can be used for successful implementation of change process. The article compares the four level strategies, namely functional level strategy, business level strategy, corporate level strategy and global strategy. There are many strategies to bring about a change in an organization but the most commonly used strategies are summarized in this article. An organization is a group of people working together to achieve a common goal. As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... вћў Monitoring product or service markets so that strategies conform to the needs of the markets at the current stage of evolution. The strategies in business level are: 1) Cost leadership strategy The cost leadership strategy emphasizes having the lowest costs, not necessarily the lowest price, in a market. A firm attempting to realize a low cost strategy should stress resources that facilitate efficiency. A firm that has successfully achieved a low cost position will have the lowest costs relative to competitors. A firm can use such a position to either lower its prices and gain market share and sales from rivals or keep its prices at the present market level and make relatively more profit per unit sold. The key idea is that cost and price are independent choices, and this strategy is focused on cost. 2) Differentiation The differentiation strategy focuses on developing a unique product or a perception of a unique product that customers are willing to pay a premium for. If a firm is not receiving a premium price for its goods or services it is not a differentiator. A firm seeking to follow a differentiation strategy should attempt to develop and enhance its resources that promote customer responsiveness, quality, and/or innovation. Note that costs are still important to a differentiator because it is possible that the costs of making the product unique will be greater than the premium consumers are ... • 3. Roles Within The Organization s Governance Model Introduction The Hospital Sisters Health Systems consist of four different divisions within two states and have a total of 13 hospitals, along with a large physician group. The organization was originally run by a group of nuns. However, the nuns have formed a board to oversee the governance of HSHS to ensure they continue to meet the high expectations and mission originally designed by the founding convent in 1875. As the hospital system has grown the governance board has also grown and now has several key members listed on its organizational chart. Each of the roles is essential in creating uniformed quality facilities throughout not only the divisions but the entire HSHS system. The governance board assists in many areas, including HIT decisions and upgrades. This paper will discuss the governance of HSHS, various roles within the organization s governance model, the HIT decision making process, and an example of HIT implementation within the HSHS EWD. Hospital Governance Sister Bernadine Gutowski is one of a few nuns that belong to the Third Order of St Francis. She works as a secretary within the Hospital Sisters Health Systems (HSHS) and recently discussed with me the history of our organization and the changes it has endured. HSHS was originally ran by a group of nuns that belonged to the Third Order of St. Francis in 1875. At that time, they began serving the community by nursing sick and poor people within their homes. Since then they have expanded their health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Failures Of The Articles Of Confederation In 1776, the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was formally adopted. The American Revolution had already been going on with the battles of Lexington and Concord over a year prior, but the first government of the United States is the Articles of Confederation, a constitution based on Republican ideas and democracy. The Continental Congress approved the Articles of Confederation in 1777. It was adopted, written by John Dickinson, but there was a delay in ratifying it by the states. States like Virginia and Massachusetts had claimed a bunch of land stretching from the East Coast all the way to the Pacific Ocean as part of their colonial charters. States like Maryland and Pennsylvania, who did not have these land claims, did not want to ratify this new national government until the land is relinquished. It was not until in 1781 when the states officially ratified the Articles of Confederation. From 1781 to 1789, the Articles of Confederation failed and had created problems in political, economic, and foreign policies, making this new national government an ineffective government. • 5. Elizabethan Era Research Paper The Elizabethan era ran from 1558 1603. The reason it is named Elizabethan is because Elizabeth I was on the English thrown at the time. The arts flourished under the control of Elizabeth I. The Queen was an excellent scholar and a keen supporter of all the arts including theatre. Her personal love for poetry, music and drama encouraged a period where it was fashionable for wealthy members of the public to support and appreciate the arts. Historians often think of the Elizabethan times as the golden age in English History. It was the highlight of the English Renaissance where the arts were explored in depth. The Elizabethan era is well known for theatre. The most famous playwright of the time was of course, William Shakespeare. He and others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. China Labor Watch ( Clw ) CHINA LABOR WATCH Founded by labor activist Li Qiang in 2000, China Labor Watch (CLW) is a powerful and independent non profit organization dedicated to protecting the workers rights in China. With the support of the media and the labor organizations, CLW conducts deep investigations and publishes the reports about the sub standard working conditions and wages in factories in China. The reports not only create awareness among the world community, but also put pressure on the corporations to improve conditions for workers. Apple s Supplier Foxconn, came under intense scrutiny for its suspicious labor practices and suicide by its fourteen young workers at the Foxconn Shenzhen factory in 2010, followed by the explosion in Chengdu factory resulting in 3 deaths and sixteen injuries in 2011. In 2010 CLW also reported about several violations of China labor laws based investigation collected through off site interviews and from its own staff who had purposefully worked in Foxconn factories as workers to gain real and accurate information. These reports puts a big question mark on the supplier responsibility reports and standards set by Apple. According to CLW, Apple is equally responsible for the China labor law violations and worker suicides as its goal of profit maximization comes at the cost of brutal working conditions at foxconn factories. This is because the quality and price of production material used in manufacturing is pre determined according to the Apple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Research Project On Colon Cancer Research Project Outcome Colon cancer claims the lives of 12 Australians each day and is the second largest cancer killer (1). Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer in the Australian population after the age of 50. It is essential that Australian men and women are aware of the aggressiveness and severity of the disease (2) and the primary preventative methods. The Indigenous Australian population, in comparison to the non indigenous population, have a higher prevalence of the disease and experience higher mortality rates (3). Due to the lack of medical resources and awareness, men and women living in rural areas have an increased risk of developing colon cancer (4). For these reasons, I have decided to conduct an investigation on the significance, the primary preventative methods and the impact they can have on the health and awareness of the Australian population. I conducted my initial research by investigating the internet and books, both of which encompassed the anatomy of the stomach and allowed me to gather a greater understanding of Colon Cancer. Bowel cancer is a malignant growth that develops most commonly in the lining of the large bowel. The vast majority of bowel cancers develop from growths called polyps . Not all polyps become cancerous. The larger that a polyp grows, the more likely it is to become malignant (cancerous). Polyps can be easily re moved without surgery by a procedure called a colonoscopy (inspection of the bowel with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Dangers Of Sea Turtles Sea turtles have a unique place in world s oceans. The way they migrate and reproduce makes them fascinating to learn about, but also it makes them very vulnerable to environmental problems. Human development of beaches, fishing practices, and other environmental threats are threatening sea turtles across the world. In this paper I will describe the types of sea turtles and some of the special things about how they live and reproduce. Then, I will talk about some of the threats that they face. Finally, I will discuss possible solutions to helping them thrive in the modern world. Types of Sea TurtlesThere are several types of sea turtles in the world. Each of them has a long migration pattern, and each has declined greatly in population recently. For instance, the loggerhead sea turtle can migrate as much as 10,000 miles. Their populations have declined massively and there is a high risk that they will become extinct in the Pacific Ocean within the next 60 years. The leatherback sea turtle differs from other types in that it has a soft shell and other adaptations that allow it to survive in cold environments. It has faced large declines and may become extinct within the next several decades. Hawksbill sea turtles are found in tropical regions and rely on healthy reefs for survival. The shells of these turtles are very desirable and it has a led to poaching in the past. Olive Ridley sea turtles are the most abundant on earth with the largest nesting area in India. The ... Exercise is not simply made for its look good, feel good sensation that it provides; it is positively correlated to longer life expectancies, which we associate to healthy lives. One of the most important businesses to help out with exerciseare the healthclubs that are increasing in popularity as time goes on. • 13. Community Observation Report Community service is services volunteered by individuals or an organization to benefit a community or its institutions. My favorite community service job that I completed was located at The Junior Achievement at the Atlanta Discovery Center. The objective of this service was to teach children how to survive and succeed in the world economically through the use of time, talent, cooperation, and education. Before they came to the center students were trained by their teachers to budget money and to spend it wisely. So when they finally arrived, a real life model was presented to them. With the compelling volunteer and student interaction, we helped each student understand the theory to life and also understand the differences between needs and wants. The building was set up with different mini department stores like Chick fil A, Publix, philanthropy shop, SunTrust bank, home/apartment agencies, automobile shop, Belk, Kaiser Permanente, and AT T. These shops were to help the students understand manage the differences between what they really needand what they really want. In addition, the goal was to also help build character and skills to make it in the fast moving real world. Before the volunteer work began the director of the center sat us in the room and trained us, with the use of a PowerPoint on the tasks that we would be performing. • 15. A Separate Peace Tree A tree in John Knowles s A Separate Peace, symbolizes the true strengths and weaknesses of two boys relationship during World War Two. This specific tree really corresponds with what is doing on with the two boys relationship. When the tree is big and strong the boy s relationship is really thriving. Once the tree starts to lose branches and weakens the two boy s relationship starts to weaken as well. Which is implemented all over the book with weak moments in their relationship and strengths. In the first chapter, Finny and Gene s relationship is strong and this is represented by the healthy tree branch they and the other boys jump off of into the lake. Gene is not normally the type of person to just jump out of a tree, but he is willing to because of his trust in Finny. Despite his own fear, Gene trusts Finny enough to jump. Gene says, With the sensation that I was throwing my life away, I jumped into space (17). This demonstrates that the trust between the two boys is very strong because Gene is willing to do things that he is not comfortable with. Since Finny was there by his side he has no problem doing it. Gene and Finny s relationship is able to thrive when it is healthy like the tree branch that they jump off.... QuoteMeaning/Significance The magistrate are God fearing gentlemen, but merciful overmuch, that is a truth, added a third autumnal matron. At the very least, they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s forehead. Madame Hester would have winced at that, I warrant me. But she, the naughty baggage, little will she care what they put upon the bodice of her gown! Why, look you, she may cover it with a brooch, or such like heathenish adornment, and so walk the streets as brave as ever! I longed to kindle one! Chapter 4, paragraph 18Roger Chillingworth to Hester Prynne. This quote almost makes you feel sympathy in a way for Roger Chillingworth. It s depressing. Here on this wild outskirt of earth, I shall pitch my tent for, elsewhere a wanderer, and isolated from human interests, I find here a woman, a man, a child, amongst whom and myself there exist the closest ligaments. Chapter 4, paragraph 26Roger Chillingworth to Hester Prynne. We find out how much Roger and Hester have in common. They are both holding a deep secret, they are unhappy and they both have a very desirable skill and both live on the outskirts of this Puritan society. There s a good chance his fame is attributed to how aggressive he is, praised for his no mercy attitude. While this mentality suits the field, it can translate onto college campuses, where many student athletes are recruited to play for the school. A case study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania revealed that certain environments encourage aggression over others. Societies with higher levels of male dominance, tolerance of violence, and greater gender segregation tended to fall into this category. Now recall that collegiate football player. Sound familiar? Despite having hundreds of sexual assault cases each year, most colleges take little action to resolve these cases. In fact, only 20% of female sexual assault survivors report cases, the rest believing that it was too personal to share, or that if they did, the police wouldn t listen to them. If they did report, often times it was to the local police rather than the campus police in fear that they would be shamed or turned away by the universities. This occurrence is explored in several science fiction stories: The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin, A Party Down at the Square by Ralph Ellison, as well as Vonnegut s own Harrison Bergeron and Welcome to the Monkey House . The dehumanization and objectification in these stories is a relevant and accurate critique of informal social norms in society and an effective examination of how such norms spread violence. She is pregnant with her second child from her father, still in junior high, and is morbidly obese. Not only that, but is continuously abused by her mother and father; verbally, mentally, and physically. Throughout the movie, you can see that she has a red scarfeither around her neck or around her arm. I believe this represents hope. The hope that Precious has for her own life. Precious has hope about her education, and about her future. Precious, even though her mother says it s dumb, still goes to the alternative school because she has a sense of hope that she can be rescued and saved from her own world. Hope is evidently the only thing keeping Precious moving. Hope means to love. What is there for Precious to have a love for? Its evident that she doesn t have love for her family, but she seems to care about school. She also has love for her unborn child. Though she probably doesn t love school, she is trying to do good not only for herself but for her child. She feels this obligation for the kid to be in a slightly better environment than her first child. This is shown in the scene when the social worker comes over for a home visit and it shows how the child is treated by Precious mother before and after the visit. Precious obviouslycan t say anything about the situation because she will get more than a rough talking. School gives Precious a sense of hope and purpose for her future and for her baby. She talks about all the hopes and dreams she has for the baby; the colours of the room and all the things the baby will do when he/she gets older.Throughout all the trials and tribulations hope seems to reign above all else. How old are you? Are you strong? You think you could rip that shirt off? That s a real nice body. You work out? I can tell. No, it s not straight out of a steamy romance novel, though it could be. This is just one example of how provocative Calvin Klein s advertisements have been. Although the ads boosted sales for the Calvin Klein empire, it angered many parents, religious groups, and even the media over its message, its image, and its legality. And that their advertising explodes on the media scene. Calvin Klein eventually dropped the $6 million dollar campaign after the advertisements were accused of violating child pornography laws. On September 8 the Justice Department began looking into claims that the ads used young models posed in a provocative manner. A Calvin Klein spokeswoman stated that only one of the models used in their ads was under the age of 18. The fifteen year old girl that was in his ads was Bijou Phillips, whose mother was aware of the ad and was proud of her daughter. If the parents of the teen models allowed their children to pose for the advertisements, who are we to blame the CK company for using them. Who are we to look down on Calvin Klein s ads when you can watch any show on prime time TV and see much worse than what the ads portrayed? Who are we to suggest that the ads are suggestive when all we know is that, in advertising, sex sells and sells big? Isn t Calvin Klein just giving the public what it wants? Calvin Klein has publicly stated that the misunderstood ads had been intended to convey the spirit, independence, and inner worth of today s young people. In order for any a human being to survive they must communicate meaning that humans are very sociable. Communication is something that we have been learning since we were kids. It has become natural to communicate in all situations. We ve learned to communicate in writing. Due to technology becoming more advanced we not only write in the form of letters, but now we can send and write to communicate to other people by text messaging, emailing, public speaking, and non verbal communication. We have also learned to smile when we are happy, cry when the tough gets going, and scream when danger is near. Throughout the years we have become more aware of the things we say. We don t scream fire in a room full of people or we know that we don t talk to our teacher the way we would talk to our friends. As we get older we become apart of different groups. Without notice we become accustom to the rules, the way they communicate, and the ideas and interest of the group, also known as a discourse community. I myself belong to a discourse community. At the age of five, I discovered my passion. I knew then exactly what I know now, that I am in love with dance. Dance helps me express myself in ways that I could not even imagine being capable of doing verbally. It is my escape from the rest of the world because it puts me in a place where I am completely comfortable. I don t know where I would be without it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was proven by Canadian photographer Paul Nicklen and Sea Legacy filmmakers when they arrived on Baffin Island in late summer. They came face to face with a shocking sight a polar bear, starved and slowly dying. We stood there crying filming with tears rolling down our cheeks, said Nicklen. In the video, the polar bear was limping and hanging by a thread of life. The animal had a thin and bony frame, covered with white fur, while its back legs were likely suffering from muscle atrophy due to wasting. It rummaged a nearby trashcan used by Inuit fishers seasonally, however, nothing was edible. The polar bear dejectedly collapsed on the ground, deprived of food. Nicklen thought of helping the bear but without a tranquilizer gun or 400 pounds of seal meat, he could do nothing. Also, feeding polar bears in Canada is illegal. Nicklen also considered not to prolong the agony of the poor animal, instead, he recorded the bear s slow death from starvation. When scientists say bears are going extinct, I want people to realize what it looks like. Bears are going to starve to death. This is what a starving bear looks like, Nicklen stressed out. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors. Sylvia s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Having a group of 11 people executing an indigenous plan to steal $150 million from a vault shared by three Las Vegas Casinos. The executed plan will be examined and mapped into a 7 stages kill chain construction. In our analysis, we have adopted the 7 stages kill chain model (Hutchins et al., 2011) to describe our mapping from an adversary engaging an attack for a specific target and/or data. Figure 2 shows the adopted kill chain model. Kill Chain Progression In this case, study we will discuss each stage of the kill chain model that are mapped to the story snippet and analyze how it could be disrupted or reduced the chances of letting the adversary successfully proceed to the next kill chain stage. This allowed labor unions to acquire a lot of power and workers at the major incumbent carriers were overpaid. It is full of festivities such as pumpkin carving, haunted houses, and of course the traditional dressing up on Halloween. It also holds a large amount of anticipation for Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is debatably better than the holidays themselves. This year, October holds these things along with much more for me. I have experienced a lot this October, but this month seemed to be the light at the end of the tunnel, which made a little sliver of light fall on some important parts of life; from learning the true importance of patience and trust, to coming face to face with love. Practicing patience has never been something I have been good at, in regards to anything, to be honest. The investigation, trial, and appeals that followed would put the Arkansas criminal justice system under scrutiny for their actions. The West Memphis Police Department arrested and charged Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols, and Jessie Misskelly, Jr. with the three boy s murders. The entire case was under the constant watch of the media and brought a great deal of attention to the actions and conduct of the West Memphis Police Department, as well as the Arkansas criminal justice system. Educational Philosophy of John Dewey Essay The Educational Philosophy of John Dewey John Dewey is known as leader of the progressive movement in the history of the American education system and his book, Democracy and Education: an introduction to the philosophy of education, could be used as a textbook to teach the foundations of the movement. Discrediting all previous educational and philosophic approaches as intellectually incomplete or inaccurate, Dewey first presents a new perspective on the nature of knowledge, education, society and philosophy. Societies can be, by definition, small associations of like minded individuals with narrow aims or large nations with broad, diverse aims. Dewey offers two standards which can be applied to assess the value of a society: How numerous and varied are the interests which are consciously shared? How full and free is the interplay with other forms of association? By applying these two questions, the natural conclusion of the ideal society is democratic, that is to say one that offers its citizens the freedom of expression and communication. If a democracy represents an ideal society that presents the maximum number of common interests and the maximum opportunities for association with other societies, then it also represents the ideal society in its potential for growth. Any society with a near limitless potential for growth must redefine the concept of knowledge in order to gain efficiencies in its education system. Previous attempts at defining knowledge were flawed, in the mind of the Progressivist, by directly stating or implying a division or duality that presents a barrier to free intercourse of ideas. Examples of these dualities are that of different classes within a society such as rich vs poor, noble vs lower class, ruler vs ruled or that of the physical vs metaphysical worlds. Once women started to protest this, the whole nation got involved and there were some disagreements. The amendment was first proposed in 1878 to Congress but not seriously considered. In the early 1900 s a Representative proposed the Susan B. Anthony Amendment to allow women the right to vote. After the amendment passed in the House of Representatives, the Senate also passed the amendment. The vote then went to the states and it was one shy state away from the two thirds requirement and it was all up to Tennessee to break the vote. The decision was all up to Republican Harry T. Burn who was against the amendment but his mom was the one to change his mind. With a change in Tennessee s vote the amendment officially passed the nineteenth amendment on June 4, 1919. The whole question is who supported and who opposed the passing of the nineteenth amendment? The people who obviously supported the nineteenth amendment were the women across the nation. Some more than others but in some way all women wanted to be treated equal. There were even some men who supported the amendment like Frederick Douglass who was a former African American slave.
