Comparison Of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief Movie Vs Book
Some people say movies are the way to the heart, but have you ever read a book? Books are way more
descriptive than movies because they add so many more important details. Movies are not as
descriptive because they try squishing an eleven hour reading into a two hour screening. Finally,
movies always leave out important scenes and characters. On the other hand movies are pretty cool
because they do have some pretty creative images that you would have never imagined before. The
book version of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief is better than the movie version because the book
includes characters like Ares, Cerberus, and the Three Kindly Ones. The first important character to
the story is Ares for many reasons. First reason is he stole Hades s ... Show more content on

Cerberus is a super nice dog that is super cute. He is also the creature who guards the entrance to the
underworld. Finally, Cerberus loves Annabeth, is her friend, and obeys her commands. Even though
he is a cool character, he is not the most important to the storyline. He still adds detail to the storyline
though, because he guards the underworld so people who aren t supposed to be in the underworld get
in. As you can see, Cerberus is an important character to the story. Finally the Three Kindly Ones are
important to the story for a variety of reasons. First, one of them is Mrs. Dodds his old Pre Algebra
teacher. Second, they won t stop trying to kill Percy Jackson. Finally, after they get killed they come
back to life. They aren t as important as other characters because they didn t even hurt Percy once.
That shows they are in the story but not necessarily important to the storyline, but they are still fun to
read about. Ms. Dodds is the only one that is very important to the storyline, that s why she is in the
movie too. However, they do work for Hades and he wants them to get the helm for him. Even though
they didn t hurt Percy they still scared him and attacked many times, which makes the book more
interesting. That s why the Three Kindly Ones make the book more

How Did The Light Bulb Improve Society
The invention of the incandescent light bulb is seen as a major historical milestone. This product,
invented by Thomas Edison, helped revolutionize human society and push forward further
advancements. The impact of the light bulb improved society drastically
Working Hours
One of the main impacts of the lightbulb is that it made working hours longer and provided light so
that workers had longer hours which then made more profit for the companies, while not so great for
the employees, it definitely benefited to the company owners and the expansion of the companies.
Work Place Safety
More lighting in the workplaces made them safer, even though working conditions standards were
very low and unsafe, it would sure make a difference to work in

Argumentative Essay On Phobias
Taking into consideration that all people are unique, we all have different phobias. A phobia is an
extreme or irrational fear of something. Many phobias are in relation to one another. For instance the
phobias agoraphobia, anthropophobia, and stenophobia. These three are related by the reason of they
can correspond with social situations. Agoraphobia is mainly the fear of crowds. It can also be the fear
of bridges or being outside. Anthropophobia is the fear of people and society. It is also known as an
extreme pathological form of shyness. The last phobia, stenophobia, is very rare. It is the fear of
narrow things or places. All phobias are important to understand. Being able to understand a phobia

Waterproofing Vs Building Construction
If you notice cracks or water leaks around your home, you may be having some foundation problems.
This is a very dangerous situation because if your foundation is cracking, sinking, or shifting, it puts
your whole house at risk. So, routinely check for any brick wall cracks or chimney cracks, drywall
fractures and always look in your basement to see what your foundation is doing down there. If you
notice any problems it s best to address the situation immediately because there are solutions
available. When it comes to repairing a cracked foundation, whether it be sinking, bowing or leaking
water, two words immediately come to mind Foundation Repair Waterproofing. What are the
differences? Which one do I do? Which one do I do first? Which one is correct for my situation? First,
as always, contact a knowledgeable foundation inspector. This generally is a civil engineer, structural
engineer or P.E., or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waterproofing does not solve structural issues. Waterproofing does not fix a failed foundation.
Waterproofing can remove problematic water from around a structure. Waterproofing can divert water
so as to not put undo stresses on basement walls. Waterproofing can stop nuisance water infiltration.
Waterproofing is just one step in the process of solving your failed foundation. When used in
conjunction with quality foundation repair products, waterproofing, can and will help maintain the
integrity of your home. Foundation repair can be defined as methods of underpinning or shoring your
failing foundation due to unexpected forces. Using designed and engineered foundation repair
products can reposition your foundation to originally designed tolerances. These products can be used
to lift a structure. These products can support your foundation by changing load bearing points.
Quality foundation repair methods use surrounding load bearing soils to support your homes

Learning Outside The Classroom Rationale Report
This report will discuss the rationale for a unit of work, combining a class trip to Jodrell Bank. It has
been planned and considered for a Year 1 class, but is adaptable to suit any Key Stage 1 class. It
concentrates on the effective teaching of the foundation subjects, in particular, History and Art and
Design, supporting the use of Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC).
The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) defines Learning Outside the Classroom ( LOTC ) as

the Classroom, 2017: online). The use of LOTC in schools has proven to contribute to children s

Whilst the benefits of LOTC are clear it is important to note that it may only be effective when
relevant to the National Curriculum and planned for in the correct context (Beames et al, 2012).
Whilst the importance and benefits of LOTC has been reported by many educational and professional
bodies in the past, it has also been noted that some schools are reluctant to plan for LOTC due to the
pressure of a packed National Curriculum and time constraints (Maynard and Waters, 2007). However,
Ofsted has addressed these concerns, along with concerns about financial barriers and health and
safety aspects, in their report dated 2008. Suggesting that, where the LOTC activity directly related to
the curriculum and specific learning outcomes, the majority of the planning for the trip would already
be complete, reducing the demand of teachers.

Ontological And Epistemological Debate About The Nature Of...
Ontological and Epistemological debates about the nature of the therapeutic relationship.
Existence and Relationship . Can these two concepts exist independently of each other without the
presence of the one to be necessary for the presence of the other? Is it possible for anything to exist
without being related to anything else nor being perceptible by touch? Is it possible for something to
exist if it cannot be described nor being visually present, even though it brings out strong feelings and
a sense of connection?
Epistemologically, everything we see (people, objects, etc.) exists only in relationship to something
else.
As Cottone (1988,363) mentions, relationship is what we are born from, nurtured by and getting
educated from. Our existence is defined within the domain of the society, and it is within society
where we interact with others, socialise and satisfy our biological needs. ... Show more content on

From the ancient years, the relationship between two people has healing properties and is the main
influence for changes in people s lives.
Especially, in counselling and psychotherapy, the relationship between client and counsellor is the
most significant part of the therapeutic procedure. Many studies (Buborsky et al. 1983, O Maley et al.
1983, Hill 1989) illustrate that it is the therapeutic relationship more that any other factor, which
determines the effectiveness of counselling therapy. Moreover, literature which reviews the way, in
which clients experience the therapeutic process, indicates that the many of the client s thoughts and
feelings remain unspoken during the counselling sessions. (Dinnage, 1988, Mearns and Dryden,

Persuasive Speech On The Cub World
In the summer of 2016, I worked as a counselor at Camp Cub World. The job didn t pay too well, but
it kept me busy and was a wonderful learning experience while having fun. The camp was built for
Cub Scouts, or the little boys younger than fifth grade, and resided just downhill from the main Boy
Scout camp, Friedlander.
One of the attributes of Cub World that makes it unique is called Challenge Camp. Normally we
would hold three or four day camp sessions for scouts, but for two weeks in July, we would bring in
kids from the city to experience nature and gain scouting skills. Teaching these kids, so eager to learn,
itself, was rewarding, but what made the staff honestly love Challenge Camp was that they didn t stay
the night. They would return home at three pm, and we would receive the rest of the day off.
One afternoon, six other staff members and I between the ages of 14 and 16 decided that we wanted to
explore the creek on the edge of camp. Sometimes we took the campers down there to search for
fossils, but we weren t allowed to travel past a certain point. Today, we wanted to venture beyond and
examine how far the creek went. First, we needed to hike through some fields and then wade through
a bit of stinging nettle, but eventually, we reached the water. We were all expecting to become fully
drenched, so we brought bathing suits and water shoes. It started off shallow, but gradually grew
deeper and deeper, with some areas of the creek as high as waist deep. After

Central American Employment Laws Essay
There are many differences regarding employment laws worldwide. Some countries have created and
modified employment laws that will benefit the employer and even more the employee. Central
American countries have many laws and departments that organize the labour force of their countries,
while the United States provide of laws and agencies dedicated to regulate everything regarding the

Aguinaldo in Spanish, and one month of paid vacations. Alike Central American Countries, the United
States do not provide the thirteenth month of payment, and the vacations are less than one moth

some benefits to all working pregnant mothers. These benefits include a pre/post natal period which
are 40 day before and after birth with payment. Also, in the event that a working woman gets

Seraphina Poem Analysis
In the land of Novyd lived a bard named Spero, who always wore his heart on his sleeve. He traveled
from court to court, charming the nobles with his songs and poems about love. In each court, Spero
longed to meet the love of his life: he pursued any woman who caught his eye, offering them a piece
of his heart in exchange for their affection. One evening in the castle courtyard, he came across a
noblewoman surrounded by her handmaidens. They trembled in her presence, scampering away like
frightened rats once she waved them away. She was Seraphina, the fairest lady of the court. No man
could win her over. Nonetheless, Spero was determined to woo her. He spent the next few days
picking the most vibrant flowers in the garden: blue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he returned, the whole court marveled at sight of his kaleidoscopic bouquet, including the
woman, who introduced herself as Lyra. Spero sang his song for her, not a note out of place, then
handed her a piece of his heart. She accepted with delight. The next few days passed without incident.
They were a happy couple, smiling and holding hands at every opportunity. The bard found himself
performing better each night on stage and in bed for his new love ignited all his senses. But one night,
Lyra came to him in tears. I ve lost the piece of your heart, she cried, if you will give me another, I
promise I shan t lose it. And so Spero did, for he knew that lovers ought to forgive each other. He felt
himself grow weaker as he gave her a new piece, but he wanted nothing more than to see Lyra happy.
A couple of days passed and she lost another piece, and another, and another, until Spero finally drew
the line. His voice was hoarse as of late, and he could no longer sing as well as he used to. I cannot
give you any more pieces of my heart, he said. You do not value it enough to take care of it. Lyra was
hurt by his words, but knew that her chances of being forgiven were spent. She gathered her
belongings from his bedchamber and bade him a tearful farewell. After giving a weak performance for
the court, and enduring his audience s painful silence Spero decided to stay and

Reflection About Anthropology
When I first enrolled in this class, I had absolutely no idea or clue as to what Anthropology was. I had
this sense that I had at least heard of the word before, but later realized that it was only the clothing
store I was aware of. I never knew that Indiana Jones was supposed to be considered an
Anthropologist, all I ever associated him with was stealing ancient artifacts. I also was uninformed of
the fact that Bones was a show about Forensic Anthropology. If anything, the media does not portray a
clear idea as to what Anthropology really is and what it s purpose is for humankind. I investigated and
interviewed five people to see if they had the same understanding of it as I had in the beginning which
was nothing at all. I interviewed people mostly under the age of thirty, with the exception of one
seventy eight years old. Only two of them are currently college students, while the others have no
higher education than high school. The ones with some college education were the only ones who
actually knew even the slightest about it at all. All of them had no response to what a stereotypical
Anthropologist looks like because none of them know how to decipher one through the media. It is
undoubtedly evident that having some extra education and exploring different fields can open the door
to higher knowledge.
When I asked what is Anthropology or what do you think it is, I got a variety of answers. One
response I got was from my grandmother, Delores Kimm, who is seventy eight

Aztec Food Research Paper
We believe that this is a basket with some açaí berries in it. This basket of grape looking things, (what
seems to be açaí berries), demonstrate the idea of food. This suggests that the ancient Aztec
civilizations were able to grow or forage things to eat. We think that these things are açaí berries,
because they are purple ish black, small and round, the way açaí berries are supposed to look. Açaí
berries are found in Mexico. We believe that the Aztecs may have had to move across a large area of
land to collect and pick these berries, because the berries are in a basket, an easy to handle container.
Moving across a big area of land requires a container to hold the berries, and in this case, a basket is
what they used. This also shows that

Deforestation in the Amazon benefits some people at the moment. It also causes problems for other

In Brazil, there is a huge inequality between the rich and the poor 1% of the population owns 45% of
the land. Large areas of the Amazon rainforest have been destroyed as governments have tried to
develop it to make Brazil a better country. Some estimates suggest that a fifth of the Amazon
rainforest was cleared between 1960 and 1990. It is also estimated that approximately 7.5 million
hectares of rainforest are being cut down each year. This is extremely unlikely to be replaced. The
Amazon rainforest is in extreme danger. Developments such as deforestation are proving to be a huge
problem.
Developments that have taken place
Numerous types of developments have taken place in the Amazon rainforest. The aim of this is to
bring wealth to the area by using its natural resources. . A large amount of iron ore, gold, copper,
bauxite and other minerals have been discovered in the rainforest. Mining companies have cut down
trees to get to these deposits. An example of this is the Carajas Iron Ore Project; this is what led to
highway building. A lot of new roads have been built in the rainforest for transport and commuting.

from east to west. Other major highways, which were built, are the Belém Brasília Highway (from

Women in the Merchant s Tale and the Manciple s Tale
The Wife of Bath s extraordinary prologue gives the reader a dose of what is sometimes missing in
early male written literature: glimpses of female subjectivity. Women in medieval literature are often
silent and passive, to the extent that cuckolding is often seen as something one man (the adulterer)
does to another (the husband). Eve Sedgwick argues in Between Men that in many literary
representations, women are playing pieces or playing fields in struggles between male players. By
default it seems, male writers cannot help but create shallow constructions of women; heroism occurs
in male spheres of activity, while the wives and daughters make the background, and ... Show more

The narrator begins with a disclaimer, saying that even her surface appearance must remain
inaccessible to those reading the tale. This disclaimer is followed by an amazingly unhelpful simile:
May is like the morrow of May. The element of cliché is not the only problem with the simile.
Especially in a literary context, the reference to the month is already contained in May s own name.
The simile becomes sadistically repetitive. In text, the word May (the name of the woman) becomes
not only the signified but the signifier; her own name, in a way, calls us to liken her to the month.
Consequently, the line likening her to the month shoves one metaphor back into itself, and then this
simile becomes not one of A=B but rather A=A or even A within A. If a simile s two parts are too
similar, then the simile ceases to be a simile, thus losing its poetic power to describe. Chaucer drives
the point home by rhyming May with may, setting up a parallel situation between his simile and his
rhyme; may cannot properly be said to rhyme with May ‹they are homophones. So in describing May
on the night of the wedding feast, Chaucer first creates an aura of mystery, then intimates that much
may be unknown about the bride, then finally gives the reader completely undescriptive lines about
May s

THE SYMBIOTIC RISE OF CATHOLICISM AND MILITARISTIC VIOLENCE FROM THE 8TH
TO THE 12TH CENTURY In this essay, I examine how the rise of the Catholic Church s power in
Western Europe and the increased military violence are symbiotic, not contradictory in the 8th to 12th
centuries I argue that the papal coronations of Pippin and Charlemagne begin the papacy s relationship
with political rulers and how it transitions from a weak structure to a bureaucracy that envisions a

What Was The Evolution Of Rugby
Rugby is a very popular sport in England that is best known to have been born in 1873, when William
Webb Ellis, with fine disregard for the rules of soccer, considering the fact that soccer rules hadn t
even really taken serious yet anyways, was playing soccer at rugby school where he attended, when he
took off with the ball in his hands, thus originating the distinctive feature of the Rugby Game. This is
also the explanation of why the Rugby world is called the William Webb Ellis Trophy.
However, Rugby originated from various earlier ballgames similar to itself, before it s time .It
developed slowly over time throughout the fifth century of our common era due to the other games
that resembled itself, or football in a rougher, unruled way, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Stoppages for injury or to allow the referee to take disciplinary action do not count as part of the
playing time, so that the elapsed time is usually longer than 80 minutes. The referee is responsible for
keeping time, even when as in many professional tournaments he is assisted by an official
timekeeper. If time expires while the ball is in play, the game continues until the ball is dead , and only
then will the referee blow the whistle to signal half time or full time; but if the referee awards a
penalty or free kick, the game continues.
In the knockout stages of rugby competitions, most notably the Rugby world cup, two extra time
periods of 10 minutes periods are played (with an interval of 5 minutes in between) if the game is tied
after full time. If scores are level after 100 minutes then the rules call for 20 minutes of sudden death
extra time to be played. If the sudden death extra time period results in no scoring a kicking
competition is used to determine the winner. However, no match in the history of the Rugby World
Cup has ever gone past 100 minutes into a sudden death extra time period. This paper was a paper

Essay On The Battle Of San Jacinto
The battle of San Jacinto started on March 13, 1836, this battle was the last one of the Texas
revolution. Sam Houston led his troops to San Felipe de Austin on March 28. By March 30, they were
by the Brazos River, where they would camp out and practice drill over the night. At this time Santa
Anna had control of the Texas coast and sea ports. Santa Anna crossed the Brazos River and
Richmond on April 11 and on April 15, with about 700 men, arrived at Harrisburg. He would then
began to start burning down Harrisburg and go looking for the Texas government, but when he arrived
at morgens point the movement had fled to Galveston. Santa Anna then sent out Anahuac by way of
Lynchburg. On April 11 the Texans received a cannon called the twin sisters.

House Essay
House, despite having a sexist main character and hardly and characters who are women, is my very
favorite television show. When I watch (which, by the way, is every week; religiously), I do so
because of the intensity and intrigue of the program. The various medical cases that the show involves
keep me on my toes and excited for what is about to happen next. It wasn t until this week, however,
that I noticed just how many inequalities and separations there are between men and women in the
show. First of all, the main character of House, Dr. Greg House, is a man. Whether or not the position
could be played as either a man or a woman, I do not know. However, I should say that Hugh Laurie,
the actor, does a truly remarkable job (he won a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has absolutely no tact in dealing with her, and has mentioned on made many remarks about her
gender. Later, I will discuss how this is evident even in this one particular episode. To only look at
House s relationship with Cameron, however, would prove as an injustice. House is equally rude and
uncouth with his other two employees. One is black, and one is British. To say that House ignores
either of these factors would be completely incorrect. House refers to the black man as darky , asks
him about crime related incidents, all in an effort to spite him. This is the same way he speaks with
Cameron about her womanhood. Is he sexist? Is he racist? Maybe. Personally, I feel that he is not
meant to be portrayed as such. I think he is just an old, angry man. Tonight s episode did not
disappoint, and has actually proved quite pertinent to this assignment. It revolves around a sixteen
year old supermodel who has a panic attack on the runway, punches a fellow model, and then
collapses to the ground, unable to move, but still aware of what is around her. When she arrives at the
hospital, her father admits to giving her Valium prior to her performance in order to help with nerves.
Also, he later admits to having had sex with her a year or so again. House is not concerned with this
information, and decided to keep the father around to ask him more questions about the daughter.
Cameron, however, finds this information very troubling and reports him. At the very end of the

Wes Anderson s Hotel Mise En Scene
Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel is a cinematic piece that involves witty humor, wild
adventures, and several murders. One murder scene involved a predatory stalking of Deputy Kovacs
by Jopling, a hired henchman. The scene has many different film strategies that are used to instill
feelings of discomfort in the audience. Through use of exciting music coupled with minimal
background noise, subtle choices of lighting, and a few comedic elements, Wes Anderson cultivated a
fear in the viewer in efforts to shock the viewer with the scene s ending.
The syncopated music worked with reduced background noise and the amplification of more distinct
sounds in order to instill fear and apprehensiveness in the viewer. The scene starts with Kovacs ...

The first comedic element can been seen at the beginning of the scene: Kovacs has a coat check ticket
for his cat, murdered by Jopling in a prior scene. By having checked his cat s carcass at the front desk,
there is a hint of comedy, suggesting to viewers that the scene will be more lighthearted than it came
across. Yet the mere fact that Kovacs had to pick up the dead body of his pet that was killed by Jopling
is enough maintain the eerie energy of the scene. Soon after Kovacs and Jopling begin their cat and
mouse chase, Kovacs sought shelter in the Kunst Museum. As he enters the museum, a sign indicated
that it was only open for 15 more minutes. Kovacs rush into the museum prompted the manager to
check his watch and observe Kovacs rush up the stairs of the museum but he soon soon brushes it off.
The museum managers nonchalant attitude and the medium paced chase that ensues between Kovacs
and Jopling works to ease the sense of urgency in the scene thus confusing the viewer and giving them
conflicting feelings of uneasiness and ease. Altogether, these various comedic elements work to keep
the viewer moderately calm while other devices gradually intensify in order to collectively affect the
viewer at the climax of the

Effects Of Binge Drinking On College Grounds
Introduction According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, binge drinking is
defined as the consumption of five or more drinks for males and four or more drinks for females
consecutively in the same day, within a two hour period. Problem drinking seems to be a phenomenon
highly present amongst the college age population. However, not a lot of focus has been given to the
negative impacts that come along with binge drinking on college grounds. Having encountered
multiple clients reporting problems with alcohol consumption while in college sparked an interest in
working with this population in order to have a broader understanding of what should be a major
concern. It is no secret that binge drinking is present amongst college aged students. However, data
collected by Kelly Weeder (2010), supports that this binge drinking is specifically present on college
grounds. More specifically, binge drinking is even more prevalent amongst college students across
campuses in the United States; being identified as a major public health concern (Johnston, O Malley,
Bachman, Schulenberg, 2013). To a greater extent, although binge drinking does not seem to
discriminate amongst genders, it seems to affect more college aged males than females as they
reported more reoccurring episodes (Kelly Weeder, 2010). Literature supports, that this major health
concern can be correlated with low various negative outcomes that include poor academic
performance, risky sexual

The Picture Of Dorian Gray
In Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray human nature is heavily discussed and explored, more
specifically the idea that one can not deny who they truly are and that it will eventually affect them, or
in the presented case bring their judgment. Throughout the text this concept is conveyed to the reader
through various symbols. The book s namesake, the painting of Dorian Gray, is the most prominent
example of this symbolism due to its very peculiar quality. As any reader can tell, the cornerstone of
this novel s plot is the fact that Dorian has been given the very rare fortune of being able to suffer no
detrimental effects to his beautiful appearance in real life due to his horrible actions while his painting
bears these crosses instead. But here was a visible symbol of the degradation of sin (Wilde 93). As
Dorian continues to become worse and loses any iota of morality, he maintains the appearance of an
angel while the painting becomes a twisted, grotesque, and aged monstrosity that stands as a
monument to all of his sins. In the beginning of the story Dorian meets the character Lord Henry, who
removes Dorian from his state of naiveté. Essentially, Lord Henry makes Dorian much more aware of
the world around him and teaches him a great deal about cynical philosophy and the indulgences of
the physical world. This, combined with the great deal of praise the artist Basil Hallward gives to
Dorian over his great physical beauty, leads Dorian into having a relatively vain

SuperTraining should utilize current software to advertize on the web and socical media in order to
atract new customers and CRM is necessary to facilitate that. Their Sales and Marketing Information
Systems should fall in line with CRM and are important because without marketing, sales will
deminish. In today s market, no company can stand on it s product with out new marketting ideas
much like what Kimberly Clark did when they revampted their Kleenex® by allowing people to send
the new product to friends via Kleenex.com (Jack Neff, 2011). SuperTraining will need Firewall
security to prevent unwanted intrusion form out side hackers. Not only do they need to secure the
private information for each student but they also need to be conerned about on line payments and
keeping credit card or bank system imformation private. Audio and Video Streaming is also important
to SuperTraining s business model because many of the classes, such as math, are taught on line where
on site instruction is not needed. I metion these 6 topics as important not to say that other topics are
not important, just that I perceive them to be most important to keep Super Training s business model

In maternal child health in the United States and feasibly throughout the world, preterm birth is
currently the most important problem and is the most significant challenge to modern obstetrics.
According to the World Health Organization, a preterm birth is defined as birth before 37 completed
weeks of gestation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014) estimated that 1 in 9
infants born in United States are preterm babies. Preterm related reasons of death together accounted

cause of long term neurological disabilities in children. Preterm birth costs the U.S. health care system

etiologies, one of which is a drop in progesterone action, which makes cervical ripening. A

The Common Man, Nothing More Than A Phantom
Though Wall Street seems to be an enigma to the common man, nothing more than a phantom one
hears about constantly. Many view Wall Street in a negative light because they seem to be living in an
elite exclusive parallel world, where they are untouched by the economic disasters they cause. In some
way they really are living in a parallel world, in the sense that Wall Street has its own culture that is
separate from other surrounding cultures. In Biographies of Hegemony author Karen Ho explores this
sub culture especially focusing on their recruitment methodology. One of the parts of their culture is
the word smart which means something different to them. Smartness implies that recruits standardize
themselves and Investment Banks customize themselves in order to be impressive to each other and
because Wall Street s business relies on impressiveness.
The recruits have to tailor themselves to find into a box, model of the ideal candidate , that Investment
Banks are looking for. To be hired employers and recruiters need to ensure that they fit into the Wall
Street Lifestyle, the expensiveness, the exclusivity, and the impressiveness. Wall Street is looking for a
specific candidate, because as Ho points out, The key criterion of smartness is to wow the clients...
smartness must be represented and reinforced by a specific appearance and bodily technique that
dominantly signals that impressiveness... (Ho 167). The ideal candidate is smart , which does not

The Pilgrims In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer
The poem The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, is a frame story about the journey of twenty
nine pilgrims as they are on their pilgrimage to Canterbury. Each of these pilgrims belong to one of
three basic Medieval English estates which are based on their profession: The Nobility, The Religious
Affiliate, and Peasantry. Of the Peasantry estate, there are three specific pilgrims that are very colorful
in terms of their personality and they ways that they present themselves. These pilgrims are the

Because of his story, The Miller s Tale, it can be concluded that he has a very lustful nature versus to
the Plowman who does not find any interest in even being affiliated with such desires. He is, A great

[...] was a master hand at stealing grain. (pg. 18) and again the Plowman would never decide to steal
from the church because he is such a God loving man. The Miller falls into the Medieval Stereotype of
the Peasantry which is that they are very lustful and also indulge into illegal activities such as theft.
the Plowman s demure is the exact opposite of the Miller however there is one character that

Death Is A Bit Taboo
The idea of death is a bit taboo, however it is the unspoken reality of life. Naturally, there comes a
time when you will no longer be a part of the ever evolving world physically and it will be your time
to die. The question that has arisen is whether or not an individual s unbearable pain should constitute
them to request death. A person should not have to be hooked up to machines in order to be kept alive,
if that is not what they want; they should be able to choose death.
Perhaps when Patrick Henry stated, Give me liberty or give me death he was not referring to assisted
suicide but the principles still remain the same. Our society was built on the principles of life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness; lying in a bed while incapacitated is not living, freedom or happiness.
The idea of assisted suicide is to permanently end the suffering of an individual after every other
opinion has been exhausted and it allows the patient to take control of their lives. When an individual
becomes terminally ill many options regarding their health is placed in the doctor s hands and the
individual s family s hands, leaving the sick patient without control over their body and over their life.
When the patient loses control regarding their healthcare and their health continues to decline without
improvement, the thought of suicide rises because the individual wants to simply escape their pain and
suffering. However, due to the fact that in many states assisted suicide is illegal,

I never had a brain until Freak came along... Max This summer I had the pleasure of reading Freak
The Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. It is a tale about 2 eighth graders that are best friends. The main

How can the communications between the operations department and Elegante division be improved

Cherie Cosmetics is a wholly owned subsidiary of the International Cherie Company of New York.
The company is directed by Ralph Nolk and has four distinctive product lines each headed by a

Heather King doesn t have any resources that the operations department needs, thus she doesn t have
any power to direct their actions.
Heather King is making demands to Dennis Green and Sandra Mirano, but she is not their superior
and they are not in the same department. Dennis Green and Sandra Mirano s manager is Bob Shaw.
An employee should only have one manager. Dennis Green s behavior of verbally attacking Heather
King is inappropriate and unprofessional given that Heather King has a higher rank, but his behavior
is understandable. He may have just been acting out of frustration from having to deal with different
managers. As the purchasing manager, he does have a need to feel in control of his responsibilities.
Heather King had reasons to bypass Dennis Green, but by doing so, she became a threat to his
territory. When people feel threatened, they can become hostile and angry.
III. Alternatives and Evaluation of Alternatives
Alternative 1:
Heather King can bring up the issue to Ralph Nolk. As the Managing Director superior to Bob Shaw,
Ralph Nolk has the formal power to influence the operations department to coordinate with Heather
King. Ralph Nolk has the resources that the operations department needs, thus he has power over their
actions.

things are going the way we want them to, but the reality is, he is always there, even in the roughest
times, if we just believe in Him and his capabilities. Another significant quote is, I was embarrassed
that I once thought myself superior to him, stooping to sprinkle my wealth and wisdom into his lowly
life. Ron s shame at looking down on Denver goes back to another important theme of the novel:
never judge a person based on what you see, for you have never walked a mile in their shoes. Ron s
first impression of Denver was drastically mistaken, which emphasizes that people aren t always who
they appear to be, and for that, one should never jump to conclusions or assumptions about

Examples Of Sexism In Metropolis
Science fiction s presence in film is nearly as old as film itself. With humble beginnings, film pioneers
such as the French George Méliès set the genre in motion. At first, simple pastiches to Jules Verne
pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden voyage of a (then)
futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist masterpiece Metropolis
proved that the science fiction film could go beyond the trivial and occupy a place of legitimate
artistic worth. Metropolis also marks the first feature length film to feature a robot though the word is
never used. Instead, Maria is a Maschinenmensch, a machine human, a being capable of labor and
beauty, even of sexual enticement, but devoid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She has breasts, sex appeal, she dances, she winks her smoky eye. Other robots in film, like the
Terminator, portray what are perceived as definitively masculine characteristics. Roy Schwartzman, in
writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less robots
engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously, have no need
for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of now, unlike in
film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications. Should robots hit
the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (à la Rosie in The Jetsons), their designs may
incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to feel more comfortable around
their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to gender the personality that is
programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no need for gender; she is only a
simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit, empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria
tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as mechanical humans that require a personality
and gender identity, despite robots in reality having nothing at all with their human creators. But the
more autonomous machines become, the greater the need for talking about them in anthropological
terms. Jump forward 40 years in film history to 1968 to look at another film featuring artificial
intelligence. 2001: A Space Odyssey, after all, is about evolution. Filmmaker Stanley Kubrick and
famous science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke wrote the screenplay to 2001 jointly (as well as the
novelization) with human evolution in mind and, naturally, artifical intelligence comes into

A Night At The Perk
A night at The Perk
Ethnography or field research is a sociological method that explores how people live and make sense
of their lives with one another in particular places. The focus might be on understanding the human
race and the meaning they produce through everyday interactions, or places, and the organizational
logics that guide our activities (columbia.edu, 2017). A discourse community comprises of a group of
people, especially within a sphere of intellectual or social activity, who share common goals, who
support and understand each other using their own specific language or manner of interaction whether
verbal or non verbal (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2017). The discourse community I researched on is The

These businesses that are run by students are very vital to the student body that is interested in
business and entrepreneurship. They should be introduced in every campus that hosts business studies.
Business students read about ventures, organizations and management in textbooks, but it s a
completely different experience while making decisions about an actual business. The thrill of making
decisions, feeling the consequences of every decision made is something that cannot be taught. It must
be experienced. This method of learning would revolutionize how business and management is taught
in universities, creating social change and bettering society (Mars, Matthew M. and Gary Rhoades,
435 459).
The members of my field research discourse community The Perk would be any student that works for
this business or any person who visits and purchases food from this café. Although The Perk is open to
everybody, the late night hours and the location allow only students who dorm on campus to be able to
visit the café. Circumstances have made this café exclusively for resident students. The main goals of
this community include providing a safe place for students to eat and hang out with friends in a late
night café. The Perk community believes in the policy of customers always come first and customers
are always right. This community also provides a safe

Junior Ambassador Research Paper
During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to become a Junior Ambassador for the
Chamber of Commerce of Walker County. Being a Junior Ambassador for this organization was a
great experience. It taught me how to be responsible, hardworking, and has prepared me to hopefully
become a Bevill State Ambassador if I get the opportunity. Based on my experience as a Junior
Ambassador, if I had the chance to change anything in Walker County, I would change the fact that
there is not as much community involvement as many would hope for. Being involved in the
community is something that I strive to do. My generation is becoming the face of tomorrow. I think it
is very important to show the people of my generation what it is like to serve

Asian American Research Paper
Continuing Significance of Race for Asian Americans
The formation of pan ethnic and pan minority boundaries, as well as intermarriage, also has important
implications for changing racial landscapes and race relations of the United States. On one hand,
newly emerging racial order along the axes of socioeconomic status and interracial attitudes and
relations suggests that Asian American pan ethnic boundaries may be shifting or being redefined
altogether. On the other hand, interracial marriage patterns and the ways in which intermarried
individuals discuss their mixed unions reveal that black exceptionalism in the (inter)marriage market
is likely to continue.
Bonilla Silva (2004) theorizes that the United States is experiencing a shift in its ... Show more

If boundary crossing through intermarriage is occurring mainly within a single category of the tri
racial order even among Asian Americans, then this would suggest solidifying racial boundaries and
intra Asian boundaries as well as weakening salience of and potentials for pan ethnic and pan minority
solidarity and identification. Research on Asian American interethnic marriage shows clustering
marriage patterns among different Asian groups. Asian interethnic marriages occur within clusters of
East Asians and South/Southeast Asians with only Filipinos exhibiting about the same levels of
likelihood of marrying individuals from all ethnic clusters (S. Lee and Fernandez 1998; S. Lee and
Boyd 2008). However, scholars have paid little to no attention on the effects of such interethnic
marriage clusters on Asian pan ethnicity. Research on interracial marriage also suggests a bleak future
for the proposed pan minority identification and cultural diffusion. For example, Lee and Bean (2010)
examines interracial couples in the United States and found that people perceive Asian white and
Latino white unions to be more intercultural in its boundary crossing nature than interracial, whereas
intermarriage with blacks are considered interracial and therefore, crossing a rigid group boundary.
Therefore, Lee and Bean (2010) argue that the white/non white distinction in the mainstream racial
system is shifting to distinguish those who are black from

The Sabbatean Controversy Born on August 1, 1626
The Sabbatean Controversy Born on August 1, 1626, in Smyrna in today s Turkey, Sabbatai Zevi
studied in a yeshiva headed by Smyrna s rabbi, Joseph Escapa, where he excelled. He was fascinated
by Jewish mysticism Kabbalah and found practical Kabbalah through which it was claimed one was
able to communicate with angels, predict the future, and perform all sorts of miracles especially
appealing. Possessing a reputation as a devoted Kabbalistic ascetic, at age 22 Sabbatai revealed
himself to a group at Smyrna as Messiah designated by God to restore the Kingdom of Israel. But at
such a young age, Sabbatai s authority did not reach far enough for him to gain many supporters, and
suspecting rabbis, including his own, put him and his followers under cherem excommunication in
Judaism. In Jerusalem, he faced persecution again from Jewish authorities and later returned to
Smyrna, where he was welcomed affectionately, publicly proclaiming himself as Messiah in 1665.
Jews throughout the world prepared to join him in a restored Kingdom of Israel the following year.
Sabbatai developed this strong following due to many different factors, including ideas of the
approach of the Messianic time becoming popular, the fact that Shabbatai pronounced the
Tetragrammaton a symbolic act, and his claiming to have been born on Tisha B Av, the Jewish day of
mourning believed to be when the Jewish Messiah will be born. However, he soon found himself in
prison in Istanbul and eventually, under severe

Values Is The Core Being Of Who You Are And Influences How...
Values are the core being of who you are and influences how you conduct yourself. Your values are
guidelines for making important decisions such as who to marry, what type of career to pursue and the
list goes on. Values are grown from the time you are an infant into adulthood and do not change
drastically, but can change in priority as you go through life. As Johnston (2014) states, Much research
indicates that while our attitudes and interests may change as a result of life experiences our values
remain relatively stable (p. 14). The only way we know what drives us to do what we do are to stop
and take a look at ourselves, take time to assess and hone in on those things that are most important.
In taking the Distinguishing Your Values assessment, it is evident that the most important values to me
are working under pressure, variety, security and stability along with environment and supervision. A
clean, uncluttered environment at work is very important to me as it allows me to work efficiently.
Repetitive or monotonous work can be very boring and cause burnout which is why variety is another
value I appreciate. It helps to keep things balanced and interesting. Variety also lends to cross training
and allowing one to work more than one job area promoting growth for each individual within a team.
Moreover, it builds employees with a broader base of experience to be a better asset to the company.
Managers and peers have commented that I perform my best work

Victory At Vimy Ridge
July 1st, 1916 marks the commencement of a memorable battle in the world s history: the Battle of the
Somme. This eminent battle, as well as its catastrophic first day is referred to as a symbol of the
extravagancy and unfortunate outcome of Britain s First World War. It was originally arranged to
relieve the pressure on the French at Verdun. The immense count of casualties and deaths during this
battle have totaled to a record of over 1.25 million dead on both sides. Both the Allies and Central
Powers experienced great losses as a result of the poor decisions made on behalf of the higher
commanders. The relation between the total casualties and ineffective strategies are clearly seen
through the outcome of this battle; with a gain of only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

their contributions to the war, July 1st is noted as a solemn memorial day in Newfoundland. Along
with the tremendous losses suffered by the Canadians, also came their hard work and effort. Several
Canadians were given the name storm troopers for their excellent combat efficiency. This name was

  • 3. Comparison Of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief Movie Vs Book Some people say movies are the way to the heart, but have you ever read a book? Books are way more descriptive than movies because they add so many more important details. Movies are not as descriptive because they try squishing an eleven hour reading into a two hour screening. Finally, movies always leave out important scenes and characters. On the other hand movies are pretty cool because they do have some pretty creative images that you would have never imagined before. The book version of Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief is better than the movie version because the book includes characters like Ares, Cerberus, and the Three Kindly Ones. The first important character to the story is Ares for many reasons. First reason is he stole Hades s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cerberus is a super nice dog that is super cute. Even though he is a cool character, he is not the most important to the storyline. He still adds detail to the storyline though, because he guards the underworld so people who aren t supposed to be in the underworld get in. As you can see, Cerberus is an important character to the story. Finally the Three Kindly Ones are important to the story for a variety of reasons. First, one of them is Mrs. Dodds his old Pre Algebra teacher. Second, they won t stop trying to kill Percy Jackson. Finally, after they get killed they come back to life. They aren t as important as other characters because they didn t even hurt Percy once. That shows they are in the story but not necessarily important to the storyline, but they are still fun to read about. Ms. Dodds is the only one that is very important to the storyline, that s why she is in the movie too. However, they do work for Hades and he wants them to get the helm for him. Even though they didn t hurt Percy they still scared him and attacked many times, which makes the book more interesting. That s why the Three Kindly Ones make the book more ... However, Ofsted has addressed these concerns, along with concerns about financial barriers and health and safety aspects, in their report dated 2008. • 9. Ontological And Epistemological Debate About The Nature Of... Ontological and Epistemological debates about the nature of the therapeutic relationship. Existence and Relationship . Can these two concepts exist independently of each other without the presence of the one to be necessary for the presence of the other? Is it possible for anything to exist without being related to anything else nor being perceptible by touch? Is it possible for something to exist if it cannot be described nor being visually present, even though it brings out strong feelings and a sense of connection? Epistemologically, everything we see (people, objects, etc.) exists only in relationship to something else. • 10. Persuasive Speech On The Cub World In the summer of 2016, I worked as a counselor at Camp Cub World. The job didn t pay too well, but it kept me busy and was a wonderful learning experience while having fun. The camp was built for Cub Scouts, or the little boys younger than fifth grade, and resided just downhill from the main Boy Scout camp, Friedlander. One of the attributes of Cub World that makes it unique is called Challenge Camp. Normally we would hold three or four day camp sessions for scouts, but for two weeks in July, we would bring in kids from the city to experience nature and gain scouting skills. Teaching these kids, so eager to learn, itself, was rewarding, but what made the staff honestly love Challenge Camp was that they didn t stay the night. They would return home at three pm, and we would receive the rest of the day off. One afternoon, six other staff members and I between the ages of 14 and 16 decided that we wanted to explore the creek on the edge of camp. Sometimes we took the campers down there to search for fossils, but we weren t allowed to travel past a certain point. Today, we wanted to venture beyond and examine how far the creek went. First, we needed to hike through some fields and then wade through a bit of stinging nettle, but eventually, we reached the water. We were all expecting to become fully drenched, so we brought bathing suits and water shoes. • 13. Reflection About Anthropology When I first enrolled in this class, I had absolutely no idea or clue as to what Anthropology was. I had this sense that I had at least heard of the word before, but later realized that it was only the clothing store I was aware of. I never knew that Indiana Jones was supposed to be considered an Anthropologist, all I ever associated him with was stealing ancient artifacts. I also was uninformed of the fact that Bones was a show about Forensic Anthropology. If anything, the media does not portray a clear idea as to what Anthropology really is and what it s purpose is for humankind. I investigated and interviewed five people to see if they had the same understanding of it as I had in the beginning which was nothing at all. I interviewed people mostly under the age of thirty, with the exception of one seventy eight years old. Only two of them are currently college students, while the others have no higher education than high school. The ones with some college education were the only ones who actually knew even the slightest about it at all. All of them had no response to what a stereotypical Anthropologist looks like because none of them know how to decipher one through the media. It is undoubtedly evident that having some extra education and exploring different fields can open the door to higher knowledge. When I asked what is Anthropology or what do you think it is, I got a variety of answers. One response I got was from my grandmother, Delores Kimm, who is seventy eight ... We think that these things are açaí berries, because they are purple ish black, small and round, the way açaí berries are supposed to look. Açaí berries are found in Mexico. We believe that the Aztecs may have had to move across a large area of land to collect and pick these berries, because the berries are in a basket, an easy to handle container. • 17. Comparing Women in the Merchant s Tale and the Manciple s... Women in the Merchant s Tale and the Manciple s Tale The Wife of Bath s extraordinary prologue gives the reader a dose of what is sometimes missing in early male written literature: glimpses of female subjectivity. Women in medieval literature are often silent and passive, to the extent that cuckolding is often seen as something one man (the adulterer) does to another (the husband). Eve Sedgwick argues in Between Men that in many literary representations, women are playing pieces or playing fields in struggles between male players. By default it seems, male writers cannot help but create shallow constructions of women; heroism occurs in male spheres of activity, while the wives and daughters make the background, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (ll. 1746 9) The narrator begins with a disclaimer, saying that even her surface appearance must remain inaccessible to those reading the tale. This disclaimer is followed by an amazingly unhelpful simile: May is like the morrow of May. The element of cliché is not the only problem with the simile. Especially in a literary context, the reference to the month is already contained in May s own name. The simile becomes sadistically repetitive. In text, the word May (the name of the woman) becomes not only the signified but the signifier; her own name, in a way, calls us to liken her to the month. Consequently, the line likening her to the month shoves one metaphor back into itself, and then this simile becomes not one of A=B but rather A=A or even A within A. If a simile s two parts are too similar, then the simile ceases to be a simile, thus losing its poetic power to describe. Chaucer drives the point home by rhyming May with may, setting up a parallel situation between his simile and his rhyme; may cannot properly be said to rhyme with May ‹they are homophones. So in describing May on the night of the wedding feast, Chaucer first creates an aura of mystery, then intimates that much may be unknown about the bride, then finally gives the reader completely undescriptive lines about May s ... This is also the explanation of why the Rugby world is called the William Webb Ellis Trophy. To say that House ignores either of these factors would be completely incorrect. House refers to the black man as darky , asks him about crime related incidents, all in an effort to spite him. Through use of exciting music coupled with minimal background noise, subtle choices of lighting, and a few comedic elements, Wes Anderson cultivated a fear in the viewer in efforts to shock the viewer with the scene s ending. Effects Of Binge Drinking On College Grounds Introduction According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, binge drinking is defined as the consumption of five or more drinks for males and four or more drinks for females consecutively in the same day, within a two hour period. Problem drinking seems to be a phenomenon highly present amongst the college age population. However, not a lot of focus has been given to the negative impacts that come along with binge drinking on college grounds. Having encountered multiple clients reporting problems with alcohol consumption while in college sparked an interest in working with this population in order to have a broader understanding of what should be a major concern. It is no secret that binge drinking is present amongst college aged students. However, data collected by Kelly Weeder (2010), supports that this binge drinking is specifically present on college grounds. More specifically, binge drinking is even more prevalent amongst college students across campuses in the United States; being identified as a major public health concern (Johnston, O Malley, Bachman, Schulenberg, 2013). To a greater extent, although binge drinking does not seem to discriminate amongst genders, it seems to affect more college aged males than females as they reported more reoccurring episodes (Kelly Weeder, 2010). The Picture Of Dorian Gray In Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray human nature is heavily discussed and explored, more specifically the idea that one can not deny who they truly are and that it will eventually affect them, or in the presented case bring their judgment. Throughout the text this concept is conveyed to the reader through various symbols. The book s namesake, the painting of Dorian Gray, is the most prominent example of this symbolism due to its very peculiar quality. As any reader can tell, the cornerstone of this novel s plot is the fact that Dorian has been given the very rare fortune of being able to suffer no detrimental effects to his beautiful appearance in real life due to his horrible actions while his painting bears these crosses instead. But here was a visible symbol of the degradation of sin (Wilde 93). As Dorian continues to become worse and loses any iota of morality, he maintains the appearance of an angel while the painting becomes a twisted, grotesque, and aged monstrosity that stands as a monument to all of his sins. In the beginning of the story Dorian meets the character Lord Henry, who removes Dorian from his state of naiveté. Essentially, Lord Henry makes Dorian much more aware of the world around him and teaches him a great deal about cynical philosophy and the indulgences of the physical world. This, combined with the great deal of praise the artist Basil Hallward gives to Dorian over his great physical beauty, leads Dorian into having a relatively vain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Naturally, there comes a time when you will no longer be a part of the ever evolving world physically and it will be your time to die. The question that has arisen is whether or not an individual s unbearable pain should constitute them to request death. A person should not have to be hooked up to machines in order to be kept alive, if that is not what they want; they should be able to choose death. Perhaps when Patrick Henry stated, Give me liberty or give me death he was not referring to assisted suicide but the principles still remain the same. Our society was built on the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; lying in a bed while incapacitated is not living, freedom or happiness. The idea of assisted suicide is to permanently end the suffering of an individual after every other opinion has been exhausted and it allows the patient to take control of their lives. When an individual becomes terminally ill many options regarding their health is placed in the doctor s hands and the individual s family s hands, leaving the sick patient without control over their body and over their life. • 39. Freak The Mighty Chapter 3 Paragraphs I never had a brain until Freak came along... Max This summer I had the pleasure of reading Freak The Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. It is a tale about 2 eighth graders that are best friends. The main character, Max also referred to as Maxwell is much larger in height and weight compared to other boys his age. Also, he is unintelligent and lazy. Kevin, known more as Freak, is underheight and very smart. Their differences bind them together well and they become Freak The Mighty . Beginning Paragraph; Chapter 3; Page 13; Paragraph 5 What I do, I keep out of range of that crutch and just reach up and pick up the paper thing right out of the tree. Except it s not a paper thing. It s a plastic bird, light as a feather. I have to hold it real careful or it might break, that s how flimsy it is. This paragraph has great importance because it starts the friendship with Max and Freak that makes the story. This started their friendship, and trust for each other to help each other when needed. As a matter of fact I do know the answer the reason Johnny Tremain got mad and hateful is because he burned his hand in a stupid accident and I know about that because Freak has been showing me how to read a whole book and for some reason it all makes sense, where before it was just a bunch of words I didn t care about. This paragraph is important because it shows how strong Max and Freaks friendship is. In return for Max guiding Freak around, Freak helps Max catch up on education. An employee should only have one manager. Dennis Green s behavior of verbally attacking Heather King is inappropriate and unprofessional given that Heather King has a higher rank, but his behavior is understandable. He may have just been acting out of frustration from having to deal with different managers. As the purchasing manager, he does have a need to feel in control of his responsibilities. Heather King had reasons to bypass Dennis Green, but by doing so, she became a threat to his territory. When people feel threatened, they can become hostile and angry. III. Same Kind Of Different As Me Analysis Denver Moore and Ron Hall, both the authors and the main characters of this novel, provided a delightfully captivating story about how the two became one through the help of Hall s wife, Deborah, also known as Miss Debbie. Coming from completely different lifestyles, Denver Hall grew up a slave in Louisiana. On the opposite end of society, there s Ron Hall, the rich, successful art dealer. Their worlds collided when Miss Debbie convinced her husband Ron to help out at one of the missions for the homeless she was involved in. There, he met Denver, and with the help of God, their lives were unexpectedly changed for the better. We may not notice God when things are going the way we want them to, but the reality is, he is always there, even in the roughest times, if we just believe in Him and his capabilities. Another significant quote is, I was embarrassed that I once thought myself superior to him, stooping to sprinkle my wealth and wisdom into his lowly life. Ron s shame at looking down on Denver goes back to another important theme of the novel: never judge a person based on what you see, for you have never walked a mile in their shoes. • 43. Examples Of Sexism In Metropolis Science fiction s presence in film is nearly as old as film itself. With humble beginnings, film pioneers such as the French George Méliès set the genre in motion. At first, simple pastiches to Jules Verne pervaded, whether it be adventurous astronauts on a trip to the moon or the maiden voyage of a (then) futuristic airship. Then, come the German avant garde, the expressionist masterpiece Metropolis proved that the science fiction film could go beyond the trivial and occupy a place of legitimate artistic worth. Metropolis also marks the first feature length film to feature a robot though the word is never used. She has breasts, sex appeal, she dances, she winks her smoky eye. Other robots in film, like the Terminator, portray what are perceived as definitively masculine characteristics. Roy Schwartzman, in writing for Studies in Popular Culture, calls this trend of sexualizing what should be sex less robots engenderneering. (75) In reality, robots, defined as machines that operate autonomously, have no need for sexual characteristics. Real robots have no gender characteristics because, as of now, unlike in film, the robot s existence is limited to strictly industrial and scientific applications. Should robots hit the mainstream and enter our homes as maids or nannies (à la Rosie in The Jetsons), their designs may incorporate more markedly human qualities. In order for consumers to feel more comfortable around their new robot friends, they may give them names and choose to gender the personality that is programmed into them. (Schwartzman 83) Maria in Metropolis has no need for gender; she is only a simulated she and, within her mechanical core, lacks desire, spirit, empathy, love, malice, etc. Maria tells us that in the 1920s, robots were still being seen as mechanical humans that require a personality and gender identity, despite robots in reality having nothing at all with their human creators. But the more autonomous machines become, the greater the need for talking about them in anthropological terms. Asian American Research Paper Continuing Significance of Race for Asian Americans The formation of pan ethnic and pan minority boundaries, as well as intermarriage, also has important implications for changing racial landscapes and race relations of the United States. On one hand, newly emerging racial order along the axes of socioeconomic status and interracial attitudes and relations suggests that Asian American pan ethnic boundaries may be shifting or being redefined altogether. On the other hand, interracial marriage patterns and the ways in which intermarried individuals discuss their mixed unions reveal that black exceptionalism in the (inter)marriage market is likely to continue. If boundary crossing through intermarriage is occurring mainly within a single category of the tri racial order even among Asian Americans, then this would suggest solidifying racial boundaries and intra Asian boundaries as well as weakening salience of and potentials for pan ethnic and pan minority solidarity and identification. Research on Asian American interethnic marriage shows clustering marriage patterns among different Asian groups. Asian interethnic marriages occur within clusters of East Asians and South/Southeast Asians with only Filipinos exhibiting about the same levels of likelihood of marrying individuals from all ethnic clusters (S. Lee and Fernandez 1998; S. Lee and Boyd 2008). However, scholars have paid little to no attention on the effects of such interethnic marriage clusters on Asian pan ethnicity. Research on interracial marriage also suggests a bleak future for the proposed pan minority identification and cultural diffusion. For example, Lee and Bean (2010) examines interracial couples in the United States and found that people perceive Asian white and Latino white unions to be more intercultural in its boundary crossing nature than interracial, whereas intermarriage with blacks are considered interracial and therefore, crossing a rigid group boundary. Therefore, Lee and Bean (2010) argue that the white/non white distinction in the mainstream racial system is shifting to distinguish those who are black from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sabbatean Controversy Born on August 1, 1626 The Sabbatean Controversy Born on August 1, 1626, in Smyrna in today s Turkey, Sabbatai Zevi studied in a yeshiva headed by Smyrna s rabbi, Joseph Escapa, where he excelled. He was fascinated by Jewish mysticism Kabbalah and found practical Kabbalah through which it was claimed one was able to communicate with angels, predict the future, and perform all sorts of miracles especially appealing. Possessing a reputation as a devoted Kabbalistic ascetic, at age 22 Sabbatai revealed himself to a group at Smyrna as Messiah designated by God to restore the Kingdom of Israel. But at such a young age, Sabbatai s authority did not reach far enough for him to gain many supporters, and suspecting rabbis, including his own, put him and his followers under cherem excommunication in Judaism. In Jerusalem, he faced persecution again from Jewish authorities and later returned to Smyrna, where he was welcomed affectionately, publicly proclaiming himself as Messiah in 1665. Jews throughout the world prepared to join him in a restored Kingdom of Israel the following year. Sabbatai developed this strong following due to many different factors, including ideas of the approach of the Messianic time becoming popular, the fact that Shabbatai pronounced the Tetragrammaton a symbolic act, and his claiming to have been born on Tisha B Av, the Jewish day of mourning believed to be when the Jewish Messiah will be born. Your values are guidelines for making important decisions such as who to marry, what type of career to pursue and the list goes on. Values are grown from the time you are an infant into adulthood and do not change drastically, but can change in priority as you go through life. As Johnston (2014) states, Much research indicates that while our attitudes and interests may change as a result of life experiences our values remain relatively stable (p. 14). The only way we know what drives us to do what we do are to stop and take a look at ourselves, take time to assess and hone in on those things that are most important. In taking the Distinguishing Your Values assessment, it is evident that the most important values to me are working under pressure, variety, security and stability along with environment and supervision. A clean, uncluttered environment at work is very important to me as it allows me to work efficiently. Repetitive or monotonous work can be very boring and cause burnout which is why variety is another value I appreciate. It helps to keep things balanced and interesting.
