Rear Quarter Essay
If you were recently involved in an accident, and your rear quarter panel on your vehicle was
damaged, here is a quick breakdown of the work that is going to be involved in order to repair and fix
your rear quarter panel if it was badly dented.
Accessing The Rear Quarter Panel
Generally, the first thing that an auto body shop will do is make sure that they have access to your
entire rear quarter panel so they can assess the degree of damage to it. On most cars, part of the rear
quarter panel is actually not visible. In order to examine the entire rear quarter panel, often times the
auto body shop will have to remove your bumper and the closest rear tail light in order to fully
evaluate the level of damage done to your vehicle. This is referred ... Show more content on

If they had to remove your bumper or tail light in order to access the rear quarter panel, than they will
have to put them back on your vehicle. This entire process can take a couple of hours to achieve.
Paint The Panel
When you have work done on your rear quarter panel, the auto body shop is most likely going to need
to remove the paint from your vehicle to fix the damage. That means they are going to have to put
primary on your rear quarter panel, paint it, and then seal it. In order to get the new paint to blend in
with the old paint on your vehicle, they will most likely use a blending technique. This technique
requires them to spray new paint onto the areas around your rear quarter panel, such as your door and
bumper, in order to blend the paint and make the paint job look smooth.
Check For Mechanical Damage
After all of the body work is done, the auto body shop will then drive your vehicle and make sure that
your tire and all steering mechanisms were not damaged as well. They will most likely at least suggest
that you get your tires realigned since they would have removed your rear tire in order to work on
your rear quarter panel. If any work needs done to your suspension, arm bar or other parts connected
to the tire, this is when you would find out about any additional work that needs

Ethics Essay
Our case study discusses the rise and fall of one of the largest telecommunications corporations in the
world, Nortel Networks Corporation. Nortel was one of the many early 21st century
telecommunications companies that failed due to upper echelon management, a dysfunctional board of
directors, inflated costs and earnings, and a smoke and mirrors illusion of stability. There were many
avenues that could have been taken that would have prevented the demise and fall of the organization,
but those roads were not traveled. Many argue that government intervention could have prevented the
backlash and whitewater effect of Nortel s bankruptcy, but due to corporate ties within the government
and the Securities and Exchange Commission the many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although initially they created unintended unethical behavior which probably resulted from a
dysfunctional management team, those initial ideas would later lead to several action sequences that
would have lasting effects. The two moral imperatives of do not lie and do unto others as you want
done to you were not attributes that several of the board members held (Collins, 2011, pg. 24). There
are a multitude of mechanisms that should be put in place to better align managers with the interests of
shareholders, and the government plays a big part of that puzzle. Agency problems arise when the
management of a public company pursues its own economic self interest ahead of shareowners and
secondary stakeholder s interests and portrays disregard for the respect for others and does not reflect
at atmosphere of corporate citizenship. This behavior may manifest itself in the form of golden
parachutes, long term employment contracts, corporate jets, and other perquisites. Managers are
susceptible to human nature and may pursue their own economic agendas without any concern for
maximizing the wealth of the shareowners (Anson, White, McGrew, Butler, 2004). Nortel investors
complained that even in its downward spiral, the executives received bonuses and issued excessively
optimistic projections. Soon there would not be much left other than the lawsuits alleging issuance of
misleading financial statements and blatant insider trading

The Forum Pompeii
The Forum Historians consider the Forum to be the centre of Pompeian life therefore it is an important
aspect to study as numerous buildings and many events occurred there. From the latest evidence, it is
believed that the Pompeian Forum was undergoing a comprehensive, vigorous and ambitious post
earthquake restoration. (Bradley. 2005, p.87). The Forum at Herculaneum, however, is still buried
under the town of Resina and therefore there is not enough physical evidence to provide a great depth
of information. Studies were concentrated on the Forum at Pompeii. The Forum dates back to the 2nd
century BCE. It underwent numerous alterations during the city s history and at the time of the

damaged in the 62AD earthquake. It was described in Pompeii: The Vanished City (1992, p60) as
being turned into a workshop, with uncut blocks of basalt and stonecutting tools, and other building
supplies stored there. However in the last decade, as noted in Pamela Bradley s book, it had been
repaired and in working order when the eruption occurred. The Sanctuary of the Public Lares was
located in the North East of the Forum in Pompeii. The Lares Publici were the protectors of the
crossroads (compita). Historians argue whether the building was either commenced after the
earthquake of 62 AD or almost fully reconstructed as a dedication to the tutelary gods of Pompeii due
to the recent misfortune. The architecture was quite unusual showing changing designs. The temple
had no roof and had a floor with coloured marble arranged in a geometric pattern. It had no wall on
the Forum side that left it entirely open. It could be entered through a portico adjoining the colonnade
of the Forum. On entering the temple there was two alcoves where statues of the Lares would most
likely have stood. Remains show a centred altar. The rear wall reveals a niche where statues of the
town s gods would have been positioned. The Temple of Vespasian was located in the East side of the
Forum between the Eumachia and the Temple of the

A Research Study On The Research Design
The research design was a quantitative with qualitative comparison using a mixed methodology as
previously mentioned. This study is a descriptive correlational study based on describing associations
among variables rather than to conclude cause and effect relationships (Polit Beck, 2008, p. 556). The
study also encompasses a prospective longitudinal component which demonstrates causality between
study variables, which produces improved quality of evidence. The sample participants consisted of
only acute care clinical managers for data analysis. Important to note The participants were mailed
confidential surveys to their home addresses, with notification letters sent 2 weeks later.

leadership essential to modify culture is transformational. In order to change culture considerable

change through the leader s application of a visualization of the organization over personal
individualities intended to modify internal structural cultural principles. In addition, these leaders must
function from an underpinning of great moral practices and hold a central appreciation of the
multifaceted issues that are conducive in collective exertions within the organization (Belias

Enlightenment And The Great Awakening On Colonial Society
What were the impact of the Enlightenment and the Great Awakening on colonial society in America?
Enlightenment is noted as a movement to prioritize the human capacity for reason as the highest form
of human attainment. The American Enlightenment rose from the European Enlightenment. It was
also called the Age of Reason . And it had begun to spread quickly through Europe. It gave the people
the right to change a government that didn t protect the natural rights of life, liberty, and property.
People had begun to doubt the existence of a GOD who would predestine human begins to damnation

Substance Use Disorders Are Chronic And Recurrent. Impulse...
1.6 Guiding principals 1.6.1 Longitudinal data analysis Substance use disorders are chronic and
recurrent. Impulse control, which is a predisposition to and/or a consequence of substance use
disorders, is also a core behavioral domain underlying many HIV risk behaviors. Unlike some HIV
risk behaviors such as engaging in unprotected sex, substance use disorders are more proximally
associated with brain biology. In order to study HIV risk behaviors among injection drug users, we
will use the data in a longitudinal manner rather than reducing the data to a cross section or single
measure (e.g., lifetime dependence). The reason is that a longitudinal data provides more valuable
information about the long term trajectories of the HIV risk behaviors of injection drug users. This
information may yield a phenotype that reflects severity and intensity in a way that is more strongly
related to the underlying biology of the trait. Using longitudinal ALIVE injection data, we borrow the
concept of pack years to create our phenotype, injection years, (Caporaso et al., 2009) and analyze the
composite HIV risk phenotypes of the trajectories of the participants. (Smith et al., 2015) The lives
and relationships of injection drug users tend toward instability; hence, there exists virtually no perfect
attendance record for any single participant in this study. For this thesis, we accessed the ALIVE
cohort, a longitudinal community based study, and we use statistical approaches to impute the

The Influence Of Female Fashion In The 1920 s
As female fashion in the Western world has evolved since through the 20th century, an exciting feature
has been the evolving exposure of skin. While arms and legs have had their share of change in
exposure and acceptance from early traditional fashion to modern fashion, the exposure of the midriff
has experienced controversy from the early 1900s to now. Midriff exposure has a history worth
looking into in understanding its popularity and prevalence in fashion today.
To begin exploration of the topic, the origins of the trend must be determined. Most sources agree that
Madeleine Vionnet officially introduced midriff exposure into high fashion in 1932 with her haute
couture dresses, intentionally cut to reveal the waist. While it was common to see characters in films
baring their midriffs, it was only common to see real women exposing their midriffs at the beach with
two piece bathing suits at this time and into the 1940s. It was not common at all for women to bare
their midriffs in public spaces besides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, more girls are gaining positivity through daring to bare their midriffs or even their shoulders in
defiance of illogical school dress codes and that more people are feeling liberated by accepting and
loving their bodies. I see the resurgence of the exposed midriff not so much part of a sexual
revolution, but a part of a revolution of acceptance acceptance of gender equality, acceptance of the
beauty of all, and rejection of hate in all forms. Girls who were told to cover up for the sake of not
distracting boys in school or because they were told they were not pretty are now a part of a positive
movement in body love and appreciation. I believe this is a trend to stay, especially as it was the focus
of the Spring Summer 2015 Haute Couture Show by Chanel in Paris, being brought back into high
fashion as well as street

In the article, the author claims that there is little to no evidence that energy drinks have any benefits. I
think the author successfully supports his claim. Energy drinks have little scientific support, rely on
caffeine, and have the same effects as coffee and NoDoz. There have been very few studies on energy
drinks or their ingredients. Dr. Craig A. Goodman, could not find any trials in humans of the additive,
glucuronolactone, That is used in energy drinks. Dr. Goodman stated I have no idea what it does in

A Public Debate on Health Care Reform
A public debate on health care reform has been ongoing since the 1980 s, when the conservative
heritage foundation introduced the debate by suggesting a shift in health care policy from single payer
health care to individual mandates. The debate was amplified by President Clinton through the health
care reform bill of 1993. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 can be seen as the
pinnacle of this debate. This legislation aims to improve overall health by expanding health insurance
coverage and controlling the cost of health care. While the goal of the legislation is to improve the
nation s health care, the main objective is to make health insurance affordable for all Americans. To
achieve this objective the legislation aims at increasing insurance coverage, controlling cost,
decreasing medical induced bankruptcies, and reducing hospital bad debts. The Affordable Care Act
(ACA) was created to achieve the objectives leading to the overall goal. There are many options
readily available to Americans which are affordable based on the individual. In order to be able to
succeed we have to go to the root of the problem and start from the bottom to the top. The main
components of this law deals with reforming health insurance system. In the U.S. health insurance
system is controlled by both public and private entities. The law provides mechanisms for regulating
private insurance. These regulations address issues of gender discrimination, terminating insurance for

The Best Week For Building Educational Success
The BEST week is the first week of the first year in DCU, it is stands for building educational success,
and It is very an important week to recognize the DCU program. In this reflection I will write about
the most important things I have learned and also the things I enjoyed it most in the BEST week,
which is the information and the knowledge I received, the challenges and the teamwork.
Information and knowledge:
During the week we had so much information and knowledge about DCU in general and financial in
particular. For instance: DCU international center. It is one of the top 50 universities under 50 around
the world, which means it is a very strong university. Knowing this information motivate me in
somehow and made me feel so proud and it is accomplishment being a part of this program, and I
think this will help me to have higher job opportunities in the future. Actually when I went home I got
curious to know more about the university so I searched about DCU and I had a look at the DCU
website. Not only this, but also the information about our career opportunities like the names of the
companies will hire business school international finance graduates. And that has really made me feel
secure and my studies will never go in vain. I wrote the company s names so I do not forget them later
and to search about them to know more about what kind of companies I will work on it in the future.
Also, there was 2nd and the 3rd year students who volunteered their time to help us

The Golden Gate Bridge Essay
The Golden Gate Bridge
Since the dawn of time, man has had an inherent need to get to the other side. Rivers, canyons, and
impassable trails have always hindered the migration of man, leaving him the choice to continue no
further, or to build a bridge and get over it. The earliest bridges were made of simple materials such as
stone, or even a fallen log. Regardless of the material, natural bridges allowed man to explore the
other side. However, man has never been satisfied with what nature gives him. Over time, man
developed the ability to construct his own bridges in order to create a shortcut across an otherwise
impassable obstacle. The first man made bridges consisted of wooden beams or stone arches. With

The Golden Gate Bridge broke span records and set new safety standards in the bridge building
community. Although architects and engineers designed a safe structure, various improvements such
as a lighter deck and reinforced steel trusses have been added over the years. The Golden Gate Bridge,
in all its glory, is a true structural wonder for both its size and artistic design.
Although actual construction began in January of 1933, the idea for the Golden Gate Bridge began
back in 1872. At that time, railroad entrepreneur Charles Crocker envisioned bridging the gap across
the entrance to San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The idea was deemed unfeasible at the time
and was put to rest until 1916, when James Wilkins, a newspaper editor, began to heavily promote the
idea of building a bridge across the Golden Gate Strait. This time the proposal caught the attention of
various bridge engineers in the area. The initial response was that the bridge would be difficult to
build and cost in excess of 100 million dollars. Joseph Baermann Strauss stepped in with his proposal
that, not only could the bridge be built, but construction would cost less than thirty million dollars. He
even believed that tolls would soon pay for the expenses. On June 28, 1921 Strauss submitted his plan
to build the Golden Gate Bridge for twenty seven million dollars. While the City of San Francisco
needed the bridge to accommodate the rapid population boom, it lacked the funds to

The Importance Of Student Athletes In High School Sports
When I participated in high school interviews last year, the interviewer always wanted to know which
sports I played. The school interviewer knew I was a student at Hillside; a boarding school in
Marlborough that housed male students from grades 5 9. Hillside is one of the well known middle
school boarding institutions in New England and is known for having one of the best athletics
programs in Massachusetts. Every time I was asked, I d just shrug it off and tell them the truth: I m not
a real student athlete... Unless you count skiing and sailing as athletic activities. Like all the student
athletes, I was in a demographic of kids who worked their hardest to succeed in both academics and
athletics. During my time at Hillside, I went through all the hardships that the serious athletes went
through by trying to balance the two subjects. Some kids blamed their grades on teachers that did not
explain concepts well. Others turned to the lack of study material for answers. The only thing that we
all agreed on, as a community, was that pushing the start and end times back an hour was the worst
decision that an athletically focused school like ours could make. Since many private schools already
have very tight schedules, the athletes in these schools get the short end of the stick more often than
not in the event of a new and improved school schedule. We prepared for our day and woke up at 6:40
A.M. with classes beginning at 7:30 A.M. sharp. If we didn t play a team sport, our

Social Isolation In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
A block of unmoving ice sits waiting until someone makes use of it. For an unknowledgeable amount
of time it spends its existence waiting. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Finally, it melts and no one discovers
it. Ice cannot converse, it cannot socialize. Conversing is to talk and mingle with others. Socializing
does not necessarily indicate conversation, but within spoken word is what the hoi polloi thinks of
when they hear let s socialize with the other members. Language acquisition is a crucial structure in
social psychology; however, before the discovery and subsequent study of a young girl, known
pseudonymously as Genie, the field of study had little development. Genie spent the first thirteen
years of her life as ice. Ignored, spurned, and utterly isolated by her parents, Genie could not talk

(Cacioppo 4). The effects of social isolation are physiological as well as psychological. This may also
explain why Mary Shelley gave her creature a burning ambition to make Victor s life a living, flame

While drafting out my essay on the values President Coolidge and I share, I began to wonder what
people thought of when they heard Calvin Coolidge . I asked many acquaintances and the results
shocked me. Majority of those that I spoke with about President Coolidge did not know much about

about him during school, unlike other presidents such as President Lincoln and President Washington.
The only thing that came to their mind was that he looked like an intelligent man and he was known as

The part about the Rocky statue that makes it so universal is that it represents the tale of an underdog.
This underdog tale not only relates to Philadelphians, but it inspires people everywhere. An interview
was conducted where boxers were asked to talk about Rocky s impact on Philadelphia. Justin Sargus,
a boxer in Philadelphia says The impact it has had on fighters, and what they think they can do, and
endure, and the way they go about training and style is certainly still felt today. A world championship
is a possibility, based from being a relative unknown . (Dinero 1) The statue gives Philadelphia
something monumental to stand on and something to represent all the hardship the city has been
through. The Rocky character also embraces the culture, and lifestyle of a true Philadelphian. He eats
at the same restaurants, runs through the same streets, and speaks like a Philadelphia. This gives the
statue a personal connection to the people of the city, one they can claim as their own. The places and
stores seen in the movie are very popular tourist attractions in the city. Zeke Ferguson from Di Brunos
Bros, a popular site from the movie says It is an iconic story of an underdog which I think all
Philadelphians have been at, at one time or another, and it shows you can succeed in the face of
overwhelming odds (Dinero 1) The city is filled with an enormous amount of diversity and just as the
city and its people have been through hard times, so has Rocky. The statue also appeals to people
worldwide not only because of its iconic underdog story, but because of its ability to appeal on a
personal level. Whenever failure is upon someone, Rocky inspires them to come back strong because
if you work hard you can achieve your goals. Justin Sargus says The thing about the Rocky movies is
that they make it seem like you can take an enormous amount

The only department that will be utilizing the computerized coding assistant is the health information
department mainly our coding staff. The HIM staff will mainly use this system in order to help smooth
the coding process of charts, check to make sure all codes are correct before being submitted for
billing, and to help them identify codes for diagnosis or procedures they are unfamiliar with. The
receptionists in the different departments may also utilize the system if a time were ever to arise in
order to assist the coders with work load.
The only projects that the organization is currently undergoing is the preparation for the
implementation of the new ICD 10 coding. We are hoping that with the new computer coding assistant
that it will help the HIM staff transition better and be able to look up the new codes for all the
diagnosis and procedures more easily and quickly.

Warriors: Wizards :: Mushrooms: Pigs
The sun shone brightly as I stared off into the distant grass, swaying unrelentingly as the winds lashed

Pardoners Tale, Chaucer, Canterbury Essays
The Pardoner s Subconscious Character
quot; The Pardoner s Tale, quot; by Geoffrey Chaucer, makes evident the parallel between the internal
emotions of people and the subconscious exposure of those emotions. This particular story, from The
Canterbury Tales, is a revealing tale being told by a medieval pardoner to his companions on a journey
to Canterbury. Though the Pardoner s profession is to pardon and absolve the sins of people, he

The old man is the guide to spiritual and physical death, as is easily seen by the deaths of the three
rioters. Thus, the old man looks of death: quot;Lo how I vanysshe, flessh, and blood, and skyn! quot;
(Line 732). On the other hand, the Pardoner s profession is to absolve sinners and steer them towards
life; he guides people to spiritual and even physical life! Therefore, he personifies all that is pure and
innocent, such as a youthful and innocent boy. Both, with this physical aid, do good jobs of preaching
to people to get their desired results.
The eager minds of the people and the skill of the two preachers are what lead the people to either life
or death. It is obvious that the Pardoner does not actually use sacred relics to cure anything:
quot;Relikes been they, as wenen they echoon / Thanne have I in latoun a sholder boon / Which that

to him seeking salvation and pardon. This mindset, with the addition of the Pardoner s great skill in
making himself sound so innocent and pure, is what actually cures the people. The people just need
something tangible, like the fake relics, to hold on to and believe in to be quot;cured quot;. Again, the
same is true for the old man. The three rioters that come to him are already in search of and eager to
find Death, as opposed to life or salvation. When the old man points them in the right

Music and Modular Arithmetic and their Similarities
For many right brained people, like myself, math is not an enjoyable concept. Aside from just
counting, it seems that there is no correlation between people who practice differential calculus and
people who practice Violin Concertos. When I am working on learning a piece of music, the only
numbers I need to know are measure numbers and note numbers. But without realizing it, there is a
pattern of numbers that is present in most all music, a basic scale. Though it is different for each key,
most pieces stick to a basic eight note scale. Musicians understand the concept of the musical
alphabet. It begins at A and ends on G and is repeated over and over. But this concept of the musical
alphabet is the concept of modular arithmetic. If a piece is in the key of C major, the C~scale would
begin on C and go up. Each semitone between the beginning C and the next octave could be numbered
1 to 12. However, at the number 13, the scale starts over at C again. The next whole tone, D, would be
numbered 14. But there are only 12 notes in the chromatic scale so this new, higher D is 14 12 which
equals 2. Therefore, 14 is 2 modulated 12.
This diagram shows a three octave scale beginning on a C and ending on an E. The original line of
numbers is how all the notes would be counted without repetition. Each new line of numbers begins at
1 again at a new octave C. So without knowing it, musicians have incorporated modular arithmetic
into the very fabric of musical theory through the musical

The Witch Hunt Of The Salem Witch Trials
Imagine, if you will, having to spend 25 years in prison for a crime that you didn t commit. It may
seem absurd and ridiculous, but it has happened before. Meet Dan and Fran Keller, a couple that ran a
daycare that was accused of exposing children to satanism in many different ways. This was all
because of a witch hunt in the 1980 s and 1990 s surrounded around accusing people of different acts
of satanism.A witch hunt is when many innocent people are wrongly accused of crimes they didn t
commit, mainly with little, uncredible, or no evidence to back it up. The term witch hunt was derived
from the Salem witch trials in which hundreds of people were accused and hanged for witchcraft.

This case began with couple Mr. and Mrs. Keller opening up a daycare in Austin Texas that was
overwhelmingly positive and filled with fun activities for the kids that may attend. All of this came to
a halt though, when one day a three year old girl who was already seeing a therapist for mental issues
told her mother that Mr. Keller had assaulted her when she was at the daycare.
In the summer of 1991, the accusation of the Kellers was made by a three year old and her mother.
The three year old girl came home one day and told her mother she was spanked by Mr. Keller while
at daycare. After hearing this, the mother and the girl s therapist repeatedly questioned her retaining
what else may have happened when she was at daycare. As Jordan Smith wrote in an article for The
Intercept, By the time the Kellers were tried, three children (whose parents were, at least for a time, all
regularly communicating about the Kellers) had described a shocking panoply of sadistic abuse,
(Smith 1). From here the accusations started to lose any kind of basis and went to the furthest possible
extremes. Some of these accusations included forcing the children to drink blood laced Kool Aid,
throwing children and sharks in the swimming pool they had at the daycare, and cutting out the heart
of a baby. Some of the more wild accusations were holding a gun to a child s head and forcing him to
assault his infant sister while

Comparing the Journeys of Hesse s Siddhartha and Gandhi Essay
Siddhartha and Gandhi strove for different goals during their lives. Siddhartha s goal was very
personal, while Gandhi s goal encompassed the world. This was shown by their spiritual development
throughout their journeys. Siddhartha evolved from an inexperienced spiritual being to a man,
returned to spirituality, and ended with nirvana. Gandhi traveled a much straighter path, originally
being a worldly man merely seeking his correct place in life, when his spiritual development
unexpectedly produced a great world leader; in Gandhi s own words, a politician trying to be a saint.
Siddhartha and Gandhi s main goals were always different, but they traveled similar paths at times.
Siddhartha s goal was to find nirvana. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Siddhartha accordingly sought to lose himself, but only succeeded in returning to himself. At this
point, Siddhartha, the self centered thinker, re evaluated his path to nirvana. He came to the conclusion
that all teachings were useless, that he would have to find his own way to the state of higher being. He
expressed this to the Samanas, and to the Illustrious One, Buddha, whose teachings his faithful
shadow, Govinda, accepted. To nobody, O Illustrious One, can you communicate in words and
teachings what happened to you in your hour of enlightenment (Hesse 34). At this point, Siddhartha
rejected all doctrines and teachings, believing experience to be the only true teacher, and set off on his
quest again.
Free of all thought and all connections but of those to himself, Siddhartha crossed a river, and entered
the town. Here was where Siddhartha gained the experience he had never before had. He believed
himself to have no teacher of doctrines or wisdom, but Kamala, the courtesan, and Kamaswami, the
merchant, eroded his morals and all the wisdom he had learned from other s lips, as they taught him
how to sin, how to lust for women, wine, possessions, and money. Siddhartha became a man, and
eventually forgot his goal of spiritual nirvana, gradually replacing it with a more common goal;
worldly nirvana, fashioned of wealth and other material pleasures. Despite

Social Construction
For a lot of people, when the word technology is said they picture something related to or of a
computer or cell phone. Not many people think of the technology found in the field of science or the
creation of a modern day car or even what powers the technology they imagine. Even less think of the
individual parts of the artifact that makes up the piece of tech they thought of or just how long this
science of craft has existed and grown. With such an ever expanding and omnipresent force at work to
make humankind more advanced and life simpler, it s not surprising that other fields have sprouted to
examine how technology is shaped. One such examination led to the concept of the social construction

except this earthquake had people who were experiencing it using Twitter to share their stories, which
led to another group of people who heard about the earthquake using Twitter to get information from a

but they are the best example of interpretative flexibility. Two groups of people both using the same

though the app was still used to communicate with friends, it became more of an information sharing

social media created a new way to interact and soon led groups of investors, celebrities, politicians,
scientists, and even soccer moms to use the site to network, advertise products, educate themselves,
and start important conversations. Twitter was no longer just a place to trade information, it became a

Currently, the majority of Twitter users are shaping this application by using it as a political platform
to share, stop, and acknowledge injustice. Yet, just a year ago, it was more often than not a place

Example Of Culture Jamming
This essay will unpack the ways in which hegemonic discourses are subverted to present
counterhegemonic discourses focusing on the Tokolos stencil on page two. It shall equally consider
the potential and limitations of such a practice in a South African context. Finally, this essay will argue
that culture jamming brings about liberal pluralism and leads to a critical pedagogy by encouraging
people to do reverse engineering and question the dominant ideologies set in place.
Culture jamming is a form of media activism where hegemonic discourses are disputed though the
subversion of media texts to create a new counterhegemonic meaning. According to Klein, it is the
practice of parodying advertisements and hijacking billboards in order to drastically alter their
messages (2001: 280). Another definition is, A form of media activism that subverts and reworks the
intended meaning of existing media texts or parodies major corporations, public figures, and their
media images (Stadler O Shaughnessy, 2005: 188).
Hegemony in this case means the success of the dominant classes in presenting their definition of
reality, their view of the world, in such a way that it is accepted by other classes as common sense .

platform used by the advertiser to create a new message via mimesis. It can be described as some sort

Analysis Of I Just Wanna Be Average By Mike Rose
We go to school day after day and see the same things happening. We never have the time to question
these things or to even stop and take a second to wonder, is this the right way to handle this or is this
what I am supposed to be doing with my life. From the moment we walk through those school doors
until we leave at the end of the day there is nothing but competition. There are many different kinds of
competition, whether it is in a sport for school or for who has the best academic scores. A second in
the day does not go by where there are not two students competing for the winning spot. In Mike

Many people believe that we need to have our children competing to be the best of the best when they
are young. Therefore, giving them a head start on a great future. In Rose he says, Students will float to
the mark you set. (Rose 154) This means that if we set the mark at college, there are kids that will
compete to be the best out of their class and will strive to become the most successful. Although we do
not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers something to aim for even though they
never seem to compete for anything. This means that by having an environment that is willing to push
even the slackers in school shows that they to can have something to compete for in the future. The
environment of students plays an important role in helping students compete to become better. We
tend to see better scores from students in private schools rather than students in public schools, this is
because students are pushed harder in private schools and are competing to be the best because they
know that if they start to fall behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers.
Problems start to form when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is
not that important. Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents.
When reading Katherine S. Newman, The Accordion Family: Boomerang Kids, Anxious Parents, and
the Private Toll of Global Competition we find it interesting when she brings up the topic on how
Adult children are migrating home or refraining from leaving in the first place, and there they stay for
many years longer. (Newman 91) With this being said we can right away notice that there is no
motivation to become better or to even compete in the work for to be able to be living on their

John Ford built a standard that many future directors would follow with his classic 1939 film

revolutionized the western genre by elevating the genre from a B film into a more serious genre. The
film challenged not only western stereotypes but also class divisions in society. Utilizing specific
aspects of mise en scène and cinematography, John Ford displays his views of society. The film
consists of many cliché western characters. There is a banker, an outlaw, a prostitute, a doctor, a

Doc Boone is not taken seriously and considered a fool because he is always drunk. Dallas is always
forgotten and all the attention is given to Mallory. In a scene where the stagecoach is headed towards
Apache Wells in the cold, Hatfield s facial expressions show that he is worried and concerned
whenever he looks at Lucy Mallory. Hatfield, being a gentleman, offers Lucy Mallory water and
serves water to her in a fancy silver cup but does not bother to ask Dallas. However, Ringo Kid makes
sure Dallas also gets a drink of water. This demonstrates that even though Hatfield is considered a
gentleman, he does not show any concern for Dallas because she has a lower social status. Once the
stagecoach arrives in Lordsburg, Lucy Mallory is carried out on a stretcher. At first, the camera shot is
wide angled and the street is crowded with soldiers and civilians. Then there is a close up shot of
Mallory on the stretcher as she speaks to Dallas. The shot reveals Mallory s facial expression of
remorse. Mallory looks apologetic and offers any help to Dallas. This is one of the final scenes in the
film and illustrates how Mallory s view of Dallas completely changed by the resolution of the film.
Throughout the film, Mallory felt uncomfortable being around Dallas. Once Dallas helped take care of
Mallory s baby, Mallory realized that her judgment of Dallas was completely wrong.

Introduction Basel III is a far reaching set of reform measures developed by Basel committee on
banking administration and risk management of banking industry. The third segment was developed in
response to the deficiencies in financial regulation which were highlighted in 2007 08 financial crisis.
The outcome of the 2008 Financial Crisis (which begun in 2007), has witnessed numerous changes
one of the changes was the need for an enhanced Basel ll framework which had failed miserably
during the 2007 2008 financial crunch. After the global financial crisis, the G20 and the Basel
Committee on Banking Supervision planned a series of new bank capital and liquidity guidelines

September 2010 the Basel committee announced the new capital and liquidity ratios and the timeline
by which banks need to fulfill the requirements. Once implemented new changes will have a drastic
impact on the banking sector. It will mark an end to asset driven liability management which will
force the banks to adapt the characterized banking or we can say the size of banks balance sheet will
be dependent on their ability attract funds rather than their capacity to secure assets. A cautious study

The Impact Of Federal Government On Aviation Development...
The answer to this capstone question will examine the role the Federal Government in the
development of aviation in the United States. The discussion will discuss the three ways in which the
Federal Government became involved in aviation development and cite an example in each of those
cases. The resulting effect on aviation development of such involvement will also be explored. Body
In examining the history of aviation in the U.S. and the development of the airlines, it is clear that the
Federal Government played a vital role in the development of both. Historical records clearly show
that this involvement by the Federal Government was critical in getting them established and in
helping to develop them into the globally dominant enterprises they are today. Furthermore, it can be
easily argued that U.S. aviation as a whole, and the airlines in particular, would not be where they are
today without this direct involvement by the Federal Government and some of the very specific
actions that it has taken to keep them relevant and competitive during the most dire of times. The
Federal Government ensured that U.S. aviation and its airlines would develop and achieve a
worldwide leadership role by becoming involved in three major ways: through funding, legislation,
and policy setting. As any person or organization involved in getting a product to market can attest to,
the endeavor involves a costly process that starts with acquiring the funds for research and

Cinderella And Princess Culture Summary
The Princess Paradox and Cinderella and Princess Culture Authors James Poniewozik and Peggy
Orenstein are both concerned with the increase of princess culture among young girls. Poniewozik s
article The Princess Paradox and Orenstein s article Cinderella and Princess Culture discuss similar
aspects of princess culture that could be potentially harmful to it s audience. Both Poniewozik and
Orenstein take on a feminist perspective in their articles. Specifically, both authors discuss feminist
themes in princess culture but Orenstein focuses on toddler to pre teen aged girls while Poniewozik is
more concerned with specifically teenagers. Both authors make satirical remarks towards princess
culture. Orenstein describes a dentist visit where she became unhinged after the professional asked her
three year old daughter, Would you like to sit in my special princess throne so I can sparkle your
teeth? (326). She describes the dentists remark as a Betty Boop inflection mocking the high pitched
tone in which the dentist chose to speak to her daughter (326). As a feminist, Orenstein advocates that
women must earn their respect in order to be treated equally. She does not want her daughter, being as
young as she is, to grow up thinking she is entitled to being treated as royalty. Therefore she is
insulted by the mollycoddling her daughter receives simply because she is a little girl. On the other
hand, Poniewozik uses the film 13 Going on 30 to describe how ridiculously

Research Paper On Perampanel
Introduction Perampanel (Fycompa®) is a new antiepileptic drug used as a secondary therapy in
adolescents and adults who suffer from partial onset seizures. Perampanel was identified via a focused
discovery program at Eisai Research Laboratories in London and Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan (Satlin,
Kramer Laurenza, 2013). It is a selective, non competitive antagonist drug and is the first in this new
class of antiepileptic drug known as a amino 3 hydroxy 5 methyl 4 isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA)
type glutamate receptor antagonist on post synaptic neurons; thereby selectively preventing the
transmission of seizures by blocking the effects of glutamate(Perucca, French and Bialer, 2007).

AMPA receptors are localized at a postsynaptic level and under normal condition transduce responses
to glutamate, released before the junction across which a nerve impulse passes from an axon terminal
to a neuron, muscle cell, orgland cell. In the brain, AMPA receptors are the most represented
ionotropic glutamate receptors and mediate excitatory neurotransmission. Hypersensitivity and
overexpression of AMPA receptors in human epileptic hippocampal and neocortical tissue has been
reported and an excessive glutamate release has been observed during seizure activity. (Zaccara et al.,

their anticonvulsant effects, AMPA receptor antagonists could play an important neuroprotective role
by preventing neuronal death and could elicit an anti epileptogenic effect (Franco et al.,

Lysistrat A Political Satire Written By Aristophanes
Lysistrata was a political satire written by Aristophanes in early 400 B.C.E., and was performed in
Athens. The connection between Lysistrata and the society and culture surrounding it is deeply
significant. Due to the immense cultural pressure in this period, it s difficult to pinpoint a singular
theme that Aristophanes was trying to make a comment on. With the Peloponnesian War continuing to
lead a seemingly endless reign of chaos over Greece and its citizens, these elements of fear and
despair became very relevant in the plays of the time, most notably being Aristophanes Lysistrata.
Within such satires, it became commonplace to see women being used as satirical devices to call
attention to the craziness that had consumed society. It also contributed to the idea of women having a
social or political power and, more importantly, having worth and a voice. Although it is impossible to
know exactly which social aspects Aristophanes was trying to comment on, through historical
documents and contexts, it is clear that statements were made condemning war through the satirical
use of subverting gender norms to reinforce the foolishness in society and fighting. The fighting and
devastation that influenced Aristophanes was the result of the Peloponnesian War. The war had been
reigning terror and sorrow from about 431 to 404 B.C.E. across the Greek nation ( The Peloponnesian
War ). It was fought between Sparta and Athens, however, each of these cities served as the head of

John K, Thornton s African Dimension Of The Stono Rebellion
On September 9, 1739, the Stono Rebellion took place in the colony of South Carolina. The slaves,
lead by an Angolan named Jemmy, stunned the plantation owners in their revolt against their
oppressive lifestyle. Their goal was to march all the way to Spanish Florida, but they were eventually
stopped by the militia. In total, about 60 white civilians were killed and many more slaves experienced
the same fate. This was such a significant uprising, not only because of the lack of information we
have about rebellions in general, but because it showed that slaves had the ability to revolt against the
harsh lifestyle that was forced upon them. While most historians can agree that this was one of the
most influential revolts, the best way to interpret this event is still debated. Some historians, like
William Stephen, hone in on the aspect of competition in his piece Spanish Designs and Slave
Resistance . While other look at specific factors. For example, John K, Thornton sees that the best way
to view the Stono Rebellion is to look at the African background of slaves in his essay, African
Dimension of the Stono Rebellion . Edward A Pearson, for example, asserts gender is the way to
comprehend this revolt in his essay Rebelling As Men . All of these historians address important
factors of the Stono Rebellion, however in order to best understand the Stono Rebellion one must

The American Clock Essay
Arthur Miller is a social dramatist who reflects his outlook on the US government, in many of his
plays. The Great Depression had a lasting influence on him, which he portrays in The American Clock
. Because he was so deeply impacted by the Depression and the government s role in it, Miller mocks
the idealism of the American dream in Death of a Salesman and A View from the Bridge . Due to his
unjust condemnation as a Communist during the McCarthy Era he accuses the faulty court system as
culpable. Miller creates John Proctor in, The Crucible as a victim during the Salem Witch Trials, to
represent himself during the Red Scare. In his plays, Miller s characters deal with injustices in order to
express Miller s view that American law is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wren describes Miller s intention through this theme, The American Clock seems to be not only about
the Depression, but more generally about how humans recall and retrieve experience (Wren). Miller
blames these bad experiences, during the Great Depression, on the U.S government. Edwards, an
expert on the depression, explains that generally, Misguided federal policies caused the downturn
began in 1929 (Edwards). He more thoroughly addresses the government s role when he states, Policy
blunders by the Federal Reserve, Congress and Presidents Herbert Hoover and Roosevelt battered the
economy on many fronts (Edwards). Miller blames his childhood issues on the U.S government, due
to the role it played during the Great Depression Miller blames the U.S government for his family s
poverty during the Great Depression, and therefore questions economic security as a theme in his
plays. Wren highlights the effect the Depression had on Miller, Miller was shaped by the poverty that
surrounded him during that time (Wren). Not only do his plays demonstrate this influence, but Miller
states that, While extending its hospitality to the wealthy and titled of Europe, the State Department
has consistently obstructed Jews and Anti Fascists (Crandell) , which shows his abhorrence for the
State Department and the government, not only because of it s role in the Depression, but also due to
other adversities he s had to face. Due to the

The Japanese War Of Japan
Introduction: The Russo Japanese War was important for propelling Japan forward to becoming a very
powerful country in the world. Japan did win the war, but it was a difficult was for both countries
involved. It was a war fought for expansion, power, and economic gain.
Background Information: Japan was a rising power. It was a country getting more powerful mainly
because of the Meiji restoration, which lasted from 1868 to 1912. It had recently won a war against
China that lasted from 1894 1895. This war is called the Sino Japanese war, and it is the turning point
of Japan emerging as a powerful country in the world. This war was fought over who got to control
Korea, and Japan wanted Korea because of potential trade, as well as all of their natural resources.
Japan received its first constitution that was like the ones in Europe in 1889. Japan built their first
railroad line between Yokohama and Tokyo in 1972, and this really shows how much Japan was
modernizing before the Russo Japanese war. Russia was experiencing a lot of tumult before the Russo
Japanese war. A large political group, The Social Democratic Labor Party, split into two sides in 1903,
one called the Bolsheviks and the other the mensheviks. They had the Crimean war in 1853 to 1857,
and the Russo Turkish war from 1877 to 1878. They also experienced a rapid increase in industrialism
after they stopped the practice of serfdom in 1861. This increase in industrialism led to a big working

Plato And Aristotle s Life Essay
In much of both Plato and Aristotle s works there seems to be a general trend about the best way to
live one s life and the different facets, actions and experiences one should encounter to reach this
position. For Plato such claims can be clearly examined through his work entitled the Phaedo where
he tunes into the qualification of what characteristics of human beings make up the essential pieces to
one achieving the best life. Uniquely, in the instance of the Phaedo this comes by means of The Myth
of Minotaur where a half man half bull is creature is formed, locked away and eventually slain by
Theseus. However, such story signifies more than just the killing of beast for Socrates in Plato s text
but rather stands as a metaphor for Socrates s death in which he represents the beast combined of body
and soul slain by Athens. For it is the soul that leads to the best life of rational thinking but being
combined with the body creates a beast which is all that is seen by Athens. Aristotle also makes an
interpretation as to the best life one is to live in his text entitled Nicomachean Ethics. Throughout this
work Aristotle makes continuous points as to why happiness should be the ultimate goal to anyones
life. However, this can only be achieved through a life of contemplation and theory. For Aristotle
states that in order for one to follow down the path to happiness one needs to be virtuous through
contemplation and thought. While Plato and Aristotle have different ways in

Evolution Of Airplane Research Paper
Aviation is something that has changed our lives in every way and it will still continue that way. It all
started with a balloon in the 1800 s. Then came the gliders but they were mainly just wings that you
glide on. That s when the Wright brothers thought of an idea that changed history. North Carolina the
Wright brothers flew their first full size glider (Berliner 77). They attached a body and inserted an
engine inside with a propeller and it flew! The propeller was there to thrust and the engine made the
propellers work and that s how it started. The second airplane, the 1904 Flyer, flew more that 100
times (Berliner 86). The Wright brothers became actually very successful. A million of them were
built between 1939 and 1945 two thirds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The weight has to be distributed through the whole plane. If it s only in the middle, it s gonna fall and
crash. If it s only in the front, then it s gonna lean forward and keep going down. It s eventually gonna
crash. If you put it in the back, it s gonna be leaning backwards and not move. That s also gonna drop
and crash. That s why it s got to be even. Airplane s are built so that their weight is spread from front
to back. This keeps the airplane balanced (NASA). The critical speed for lift is also changed based on
how much weight a particular flight packs. Most people think that airplane s are flying just by jets but
it s actually flying by 4 forces. You need lift to get off ground. You need drag for air resistance. You
need thrust for moving. You need weight to make you go faster. Each force helps the other and that s
what keeps an airplane in the

  • 2. Rear Quarter Essay If you were recently involved in an accident, and your rear quarter panel on your vehicle was damaged, here is a quick breakdown of the work that is going to be involved in order to repair and fix your rear quarter panel if it was badly dented. Accessing The Rear Quarter Panel Generally, the first thing that an auto body shop will do is make sure that they have access to your entire rear quarter panel so they can assess the degree of damage to it. On most cars, part of the rear quarter panel is actually not visible. In order to examine the entire rear quarter panel, often times the auto body shop will have to remove your bumper and the closest rear tail light in order to fully evaluate the level of damage done to your vehicle. This is referred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If they had to remove your bumper or tail light in order to access the rear quarter panel, than they will have to put them back on your vehicle. This entire process can take a couple of hours to achieve. Paint The Panel When you have work done on your rear quarter panel, the auto body shop is most likely going to need to remove the paint from your vehicle to fix the damage. That means they are going to have to put primary on your rear quarter panel, paint it, and then seal it. In order to get the new paint to blend in with the old paint on your vehicle, they will most likely use a blending technique. This technique requires them to spray new paint onto the areas around your rear quarter panel, such as your door and bumper, in order to blend the paint and make the paint job look smooth. Check For Mechanical Damage After all of the body work is done, the auto body shop will then drive your vehicle and make sure that your tire and all steering mechanisms were not damaged as well. They will most likely at least suggest that you get your tires realigned since they would have removed your rear tire in order to work on your rear quarter panel. If any work needs done to your suspension, arm bar or other parts connected to the tire, this is when you would find out about any additional work that needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ethics Essay Our case study discusses the rise and fall of one of the largest telecommunications corporations in the world, Nortel Networks Corporation. Nortel was one of the many early 21st century telecommunications companies that failed due to upper echelon management, a dysfunctional board of directors, inflated costs and earnings, and a smoke and mirrors illusion of stability. There were many avenues that could have been taken that would have prevented the demise and fall of the organization, but those roads were not traveled. Many argue that government intervention could have prevented the backlash and whitewater effect of Nortel s bankruptcy, but due to corporate ties within the government and the Securities and Exchange Commission the many ... Although initially they created unintended unethical behavior which probably resulted from a dysfunctional management team, those initial ideas would later lead to several action sequences that would have lasting effects. The two moral imperatives of do not lie and do unto others as you want done to you were not attributes that several of the board members held (Collins, 2011, pg. 24). There are a multitude of mechanisms that should be put in place to better align managers with the interests of shareholders, and the government plays a big part of that puzzle. Agency problems arise when the management of a public company pursues its own economic self interest ahead of shareowners and secondary stakeholder s interests and portrays disregard for the respect for others and does not reflect at atmosphere of corporate citizenship. This behavior may manifest itself in the form of golden parachutes, long term employment contracts, corporate jets, and other perquisites. Managers are susceptible to human nature and may pursue their own economic agendas without any concern for maximizing the wealth of the shareowners (Anson, White, McGrew, Butler, 2004). From the latest evidence, it is believed that the Pompeian Forum was undergoing a comprehensive, vigorous and ambitious post earthquake restoration. (Bradley. 2005, p.87). The Forum at Herculaneum, however, is still buried under the town of Resina and therefore there is not enough physical evidence to provide a great depth of information. It was described in Pompeii: The Vanished City (1992, p60) as being turned into a workshop, with uncut blocks of basalt and stonecutting tools, and other building supplies stored there. However in the last decade, as noted in Pamela Bradley s book, it had been repaired and in working order when the eruption occurred. The Sanctuary of the Public Lares was located in the North East of the Forum in Pompeii. The Lares Publici were the protectors of the crossroads (compita). Historians argue whether the building was either commenced after the earthquake of 62 AD or almost fully reconstructed as a dedication to the tutelary gods of Pompeii due to the recent misfortune. The architecture was quite unusual showing changing designs. The temple had no roof and had a floor with coloured marble arranged in a geometric pattern. It had no wall on the Forum side that left it entirely open. It could be entered through a portico adjoining the colonnade of the Forum. On entering the temple there was two alcoves where statues of the Lares would most likely have stood. Remains show a centred altar. • 7. Substance Use Disorders Are Chronic And Recurrent. Impulse... 1.6 Guiding principals 1.6.1 Longitudinal data analysis Substance use disorders are chronic and recurrent. Impulse control, which is a predisposition to and/or a consequence of substance use disorders, is also a core behavioral domain underlying many HIV risk behaviors. Unlike some HIV risk behaviors such as engaging in unprotected sex, substance use disorders are more proximally associated with brain biology. In order to study HIV risk behaviors among injection drug users, we will use the data in a longitudinal manner rather than reducing the data to a cross section or single measure (e.g., lifetime dependence). The reason is that a longitudinal data provides more valuable information about the long term trajectories of the HIV risk behaviors of injection drug users. This information may yield a phenotype that reflects severity and intensity in a way that is more strongly related to the underlying biology of the trait. Using longitudinal ALIVE injection data, we borrow the concept of pack years to create our phenotype, injection years, (Caporaso et al., 2009) and analyze the composite HIV risk phenotypes of the trajectories of the participants. (Smith et al., 2015) The lives and relationships of injection drug users tend toward instability; hence, there exists virtually no perfect attendance record for any single participant in this study. For this thesis, we accessed the ALIVE cohort, a longitudinal community based study, and we use statistical approaches to impute the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While arms and legs have had their share of change in exposure and acceptance from early traditional fashion to modern fashion, the exposure of the midriff has experienced controversy from the early 1900s to now. Midriff exposure has a history worth looking into in understanding its popularity and prevalence in fashion today. To begin exploration of the topic, the origins of the trend must be determined. Most sources agree that Madeleine Vionnet officially introduced midriff exposure into high fashion in 1932 with her haute couture dresses, intentionally cut to reveal the waist. While it was common to see characters in films baring their midriffs, it was only common to see real women exposing their midriffs at the beach with two piece bathing suits at this time and into the 1940s. Girls who were told to cover up for the sake of not distracting boys in school or because they were told they were not pretty are now a part of a positive movement in body love and appreciation. • 10. A Public Debate on Health Care Reform A public debate on health care reform has been ongoing since the 1980 s, when the conservative heritage foundation introduced the debate by suggesting a shift in health care policy from single payer health care to individual mandates. The debate was amplified by President Clinton through the health care reform bill of 1993. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 can be seen as the pinnacle of this debate. This legislation aims to improve overall health by expanding health insurance coverage and controlling the cost of health care. While the goal of the legislation is to improve the nation s health care, the main objective is to make health insurance affordable for all Americans. To achieve this objective the legislation aims at increasing insurance coverage, controlling cost, decreasing medical induced bankruptcies, and reducing hospital bad debts. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was created to achieve the objectives leading to the overall goal. There are many options readily available to Americans which are affordable based on the individual. In order to be able to succeed we have to go to the root of the problem and start from the bottom to the top. The main components of this law deals with reforming health insurance system. Rivers, canyons, and impassable trails have always hindered the migration of man, leaving him the choice to continue no further, or to build a bridge and get over it. The earliest bridges were made of simple materials such as stone, or even a fallen log. Regardless of the material, natural bridges allowed man to explore the other side. However, man has never been satisfied with what nature gives him. Over time, man developed the ability to construct his own bridges in order to create a shortcut across an otherwise impassable obstacle. Although architects and engineers designed a safe structure, various improvements such as a lighter deck and reinforced steel trusses have been added over the years. The Golden Gate Bridge, in all its glory, is a true structural wonder for both its size and artistic design. Although actual construction began in January of 1933, the idea for the Golden Gate Bridge began back in 1872. At that time, railroad entrepreneur Charles Crocker envisioned bridging the gap across the entrance to San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The idea was deemed unfeasible at the time and was put to rest until 1916, when James Wilkins, a newspaper editor, began to heavily promote the idea of building a bridge across the Golden Gate Strait. This time the proposal caught the attention of various bridge engineers in the area. The initial response was that the bridge would be difficult to build and cost in excess of 100 million dollars. Joseph Baermann Strauss stepped in with his proposal that, not only could the bridge be built, but construction would cost less than thirty million dollars. He even believed that tolls would soon pay for the expenses. On June 28, 1921 Strauss submitted his plan to build the Golden Gate Bridge for twenty seven million dollars. Hillside is one of the well known middle school boarding institutions in New England and is known for having one of the best athletics programs in Massachusetts. Every time I was asked, I d just shrug it off and tell them the truth: I m not a real student athlete... Unless you count skiing and sailing as athletic activities. Like all the student athletes, I was in a demographic of kids who worked their hardest to succeed in both academics and athletics. During my time at Hillside, I went through all the hardships that the serious athletes went through by trying to balance the two subjects. Some kids blamed their grades on teachers that did not explain concepts well. Others turned to the lack of study material for answers. The only thing that we all agreed on, as a community, was that pushing the start and end times back an hour was the worst decision that an athletically focused school like ours could make. Since many private schools already have very tight schedules, the athletes in these schools get the short end of the stick more often than not in the event of a new and improved school schedule. On the other hand, the Pardoner s profession is to absolve sinners and steer them towards life; he guides people to spiritual and even physical life! • 22. Music and Modular Arithmetic and their Similarities For many right brained people, like myself, math is not an enjoyable concept. Aside from just counting, it seems that there is no correlation between people who practice differential calculus and people who practice Violin Concertos. When I am working on learning a piece of music, the only numbers I need to know are measure numbers and note numbers. But without realizing it, there is a pattern of numbers that is present in most all music, a basic scale. Though it is different for each key, most pieces stick to a basic eight note scale. Musicians understand the concept of the musical alphabet. It begins at A and ends on G and is repeated over and over. But this concept of the musical alphabet is the concept of modular arithmetic. If a piece is in the key of C major, the C~scale would begin on C and go up. Each semitone between the beginning C and the next octave could be numbered 1 to 12. However, at the number 13, the scale starts over at C again. The next whole tone, D, would be numbered 14. But there are only 12 notes in the chromatic scale so this new, higher D is 14 12 which equals 2. Therefore, 14 is 2 modulated 12. This diagram shows a three octave scale beginning on a C and ending on an E. The original line of numbers is how all the notes would be counted without repetition. Each new line of numbers begins at 1 again at a new octave C. So without knowing it, musicians have incorporated modular arithmetic into the very fabric of musical theory through the musical ... In the summer of 1991, the accusation of the Kellers was made by a three year old and her mother. The three year old girl came home one day and told her mother she was spanked by Mr. Keller while at daycare. After hearing this, the mother and the girl s therapist repeatedly questioned her retaining what else may have happened when she was at daycare. As Jordan Smith wrote in an article for The Intercept, By the time the Kellers were tried, three children (whose parents were, at least for a time, all regularly communicating about the Kellers) had described a shocking panoply of sadistic abuse, (Smith 1). Siddhartha s goal was very personal, while Gandhi s goal encompassed the world. This was shown by their spiritual development throughout their journeys. Siddhartha evolved from an inexperienced spiritual being to a man, returned to spirituality, and ended with nirvana. Gandhi traveled a much straighter path, originally being a worldly man merely seeking his correct place in life, when his spiritual development unexpectedly produced a great world leader; in Gandhi s own words, a politician trying to be a saint. He came to the conclusion that all teachings were useless, that he would have to find his own way to the state of higher being. He expressed this to the Samanas, and to the Illustrious One, Buddha, whose teachings his faithful shadow, Govinda, accepted. To nobody, O Illustrious One, can you communicate in words and teachings what happened to you in your hour of enlightenment (Hesse 34). At this point, Siddhartha rejected all doctrines and teachings, believing experience to be the only true teacher, and set off on his quest again. Free of all thought and all connections but of those to himself, Siddhartha crossed a river, and entered the town. Here was where Siddhartha gained the experience he had never before had. He believed himself to have no teacher of doctrines or wisdom, but Kamala, the courtesan, and Kamaswami, the merchant, eroded his morals and all the wisdom he had learned from other s lips, as they taught him how to sin, how to lust for women, wine, possessions, and money. Although we do not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers something to aim for even though they never seem to compete for anything. This means that by having an environment that is willing to push even the slackers in school shows that they to can have something to compete for in the future. The environment of students plays an important role in helping students compete to become better. We tend to see better scores from students in private schools rather than students in public schools, this is because students are pushed harder in private schools and are competing to be the best because they know that if they start to fall behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers. Problems start to form when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is not that important. Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents. When reading Katherine S. The answer to this capstone question will examine the role the Federal Government in the development of aviation in the United States. The discussion will discuss the three ways in which the Federal Government became involved in aviation development and cite an example in each of those cases. The resulting effect on aviation development of such involvement will also be explored. Body In examining the history of aviation in the U.S. and the development of the airlines, it is clear that the Federal Government played a vital role in the development of both. Historical records clearly show that this involvement by the Federal Government was critical in getting them established and in helping to develop them into the globally dominant enterprises they are today. Furthermore, it can be easily argued that U.S. aviation as a whole, and the airlines in particular, would not be where they are today without this direct involvement by the Federal Government and some of the very specific actions that it has taken to keep them relevant and competitive during the most dire of times. The Federal Government ensured that U.S. aviation and its airlines would develop and achieve a worldwide leadership role by becoming involved in three major ways: through funding, legislation, and policy setting. The connection between Lysistrata and the society and culture surrounding it is deeply significant. Due to the immense cultural pressure in this period, it s difficult to pinpoint a singular theme that Aristophanes was trying to make a comment on. With the Peloponnesian War continuing to lead a seemingly endless reign of chaos over Greece and its citizens, these elements of fear and despair became very relevant in the plays of the time, most notably being Aristophanes Lysistrata. Within such satires, it became commonplace to see women being used as satirical devices to call attention to the craziness that had consumed society. It also contributed to the idea of women having a social or political power and, more importantly, having worth and a voice. Although it is impossible to know exactly which social aspects Aristophanes was trying to comment on, through historical documents and contexts, it is clear that statements were made condemning war through the satirical use of subverting gender norms to reinforce the foolishness in society and fighting. The fighting and devastation that influenced Aristophanes was the result of the Peloponnesian War. The war had been reigning terror and sorrow from about 431 to 404 B.C.E. across the Greek nation ( The Peloponnesian War ). The slaves, lead by an Angolan named Jemmy, stunned the plantation owners in their revolt against their oppressive lifestyle. Their goal was to march all the way to Spanish Florida, but they were eventually stopped by the militia. In total, about 60 white civilians were killed and many more slaves experienced the same fate. This was such a significant uprising, not only because of the lack of information we have about rebellions in general, but because it showed that slaves had the ability to revolt against the harsh lifestyle that was forced upon them. While most historians can agree that this was one of the most influential revolts, the best way to interpret this event is still debated. Some historians, like William Stephen, hone in on the aspect of competition in his piece Spanish Designs and Slave Resistance . While other look at specific factors. For example, John K, Thornton sees that the best way to view the Stono Rebellion is to look at the African background of slaves in his essay, African Dimension of the Stono Rebellion .
