Carbon footprint essentially measures the total carbon emission produced by a company
contributing to climate change (Swallow, 2009). After the trucking incident in Indonesia, E227
Global Solutions is determined to reduce its carbon footprint by 25% next year. By doing so,
E227 Global Solutions will improve its public image while simultaneously protecting the
environment. While efforts of going green can be seen with E227 Global Solutions local
initiatives, it is crucial to do so within the company. Currently the company does not have a
structured green initiatives for the internal work environment. Statement of Purpose The main
purpose of the proposal is to persuade the executives of E227 Global Solutions to adopt an overall
eco friendly internal operations mainly replacing all current equipment with energy efficient ones
(e.g. LED lightings). Sources and Methods The majority of the research will be secondary and

(2002, p. 29) declares in her guide Globalisation: Capitalism its Solutions that globalisation is to

Schirato and Webb (2003, pp. 1 9) tried first to comprehend the phrase of globalisation and the

Issues At Junk Van
The first year of 1 800 JUNK Van s existence saw success due to the virtual business model that
Marcus Kingo implemented. However, with the rapid growth of the business and future plans,
Kingo needs to address some serious operational issues going forward. To do this, he must
thoroughly analyze his current processes and determine both the current and future needs of the
business. Once this is complete, Kingo can be betterprepared to choose the most appropriate
information technology solution that will provide the greatest valueto 1 800 JUNK Van.
Process Issues at Junk Van
There are numerous problems with the Junk Van s current process. Inefficiencies exist in the
system that are preventing the business from maximizing value, such as drivers having to
sometimes go back to the customer s location in order to collect money. Data consolidation in
many areas of the process is also wasting valuable resources that could be better focused
elsewhere. This and other manual procedures are partly responsible for mistakes being made and
errors occurring. Having one live database copy is impractical and ineffective, especially
considering the company s virtual business model. Changes are bound to arise and there needs to
be a centralized place where all team members can go to make updates and look up relevant
information in real time. Emailing information back and forth among several people makes it easy
for some of that information to get lost in the mix. Kingo must also address his

Copyright Law And Plagiarism
Most people have heard about Copyright laws and plagiarism, but not everyone knows the full
extent of the protection Copyright laws provide, or the penalties of plagiarizing. First I will go
over Copyright law, what can be Copyrighted, what having a Copyright lets you do, the penalties of
Copyright infringement, and fair use. Next I will go over plagiarism, what can be plagiarized, the
punishments of plagiarism, and the techniques that can be used to avoid plagiarism. And finally I
will go into how Copyrightlaw and plagiarism relate to each other, as well as talking about the
public domain.
First let s look at what Copyright laws protect and the penalties of infringing upon Copyrighted
work. Copyright is a form of protection granted by the government which protects original
works of authorship, such as books, song, movies, computer software, and more, from being
stolen. However facts, ideas, systems, or methods of operation, cannot be Copyrighted. Having
a Copyright lets you reproduce your work, make related works, make copies, and perform or
display the work publicly. The penalties of infringing upon a Copyrighted work are, the infringer
may be taken to court, be forced to pay the damages or lost profits the copyright infringing work
cost the creator or the profits the infringer made off of the stolen work. They could also be forced
to pay all attorney fees and court costs, have the illegal work impounded, and may be jailed.
However, most of the time the Copyright

1970s Environmentalism Conspiracy
Our planet faces a lot of problems such as resources, energy supply, waste and pollution, habitats
and species becoming endangered. These problems lead to environmentalism conspiracy. There are
many different ideas or understandings of environmentalism. In a recent address to the CATO
Institute in Washington, President Klaus declared environmentalismis a religion, but
environmentalism conspiracy is a different way of thinking in which people attempt to care about
the planet more and the long term survival of life on earth these idea created by primarily middle
class lobbying groups became a political movement in the late 19th to the mid 20th century these
groups worried about nature conservation, wildlife protection, and the pollution that... Show more

and the health consequences of pollution during the Industrial Revolution. Most early
environmentalist believed that market shouldn t have been charged with protecting the environment;
they believed that the government should. In the 1970s environmentalist tried to develop strategies
for limiting environmental decline through recycling. There are two different understanding of
environmentalism conspiracy. Emancipatory environmentalism is human welfare ecology
understanding that aims to enhance life by creating a safe and clean environment, is a part of wide
concern with even justice and reflected tendency, later industrial societies to place more importance
on quality of life issues than on traditional economic concerns. The other understanding is
anthropocentric this approaches the negative effects of environmental degradation has on humans
and their interest, health, recreation, and quality of life. The features of anthropocentric are that it
considers the moral liability that humans have to each other. Environmentalist point out the need
for government to regulate market, they also do not ignore the destitute problems that are being

First, Death Comes to Daulat Ram is steeped in the elements of folklore and supernatural
elements. Ranga, the son of old Daulat Ram always takes tea in the same restaurant. One day,
the barman receives the phone and searches out Ranga. Ranga then gets the news of his father s
illness. The barman tells Ranga about the call without asking him whether he is Ranga. It is also
noticeable that Ranga thinks that it may be a bad news. Then follows the description of the
supernatural atmosphere and happenings. Daulat Ram fell sick for several times. But this time,
Ranga experienced many different things. The sun is seen fighting hard with the big black
clouds. The trees in the garden had drooped in despair. There was no blowing wind. The house
looked widowed . The creeper on the walls had fallen down at many places. /there was uneasy
stillness and no one was seen around the house. This was unusual. Usually, the lawns of the
house were littered with children and maids. The chaprasi was not at his place and the telephone
had been taken away. Strangely enough, none was there except an old beggar sitting near the
entrance. Usually, Moti did not allow any beggar near the house. Moti was seen near the beggar
with puzzle in his eyes. The old beggar was not disturbed by the arrival of Ranga or by the sound of

Stereotypes In The NBA
Sports can date back to prehistoric times and throughout history sports have continued to advance,
more sports have been created and the rules and regulations have been fined tuned over the years
to better fit our modern perception of them. In America, sports are a huge part of our culture and
one of the very popular sports in America in basketball. Basketball was invented by Dr. James
Naismithin Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891. After 1891, the popularity of basketball has
erupted. In the modern world, basketball has been incorporated into our daily lives. High schools

Some things they all have in common are more broad, but they still similarities. The goal on
offense is always is to put the ball in the net and on defense the goal is to stop the offense from
putting the ball in the net. But at any level, the common thread is competing. At any level of
basketball you will always see guys competing, working hard, going after loose balls, playing
tough defense. These common principles will be preached at any level. The differences between
the high school, college, and professional level are more physical. In high school there is no shot
clock and there are 8 minute quarters, in college there is a 30 second shot clock and 20 minute
halves, and in the NBA, there is a 24 second shot clock and 12 minute quarters. The other
differences would be that the offenses are more advanced the higher level you are, the game is at a
much faster pace, the players are faster, quicker, and stronger, and in the NBA, the players get

African American life as well as historical issues that are further developed by Walker s unique
point of view. Writers like Alice Walker make it possible to bring words and emotions to voices
and events that are often silenced. Far from the traditional image of the artist, she has sought what
amounts to a personal relationship with her readers. She has also taken positions of passionate

Alice concentrated and studied hard in school. She graduated as valedictorian from her high
school and went on to attend the local Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She was greatly
influenced by one of her professors there named Howard Zin, who she worked closely with on
civil rights rallies. She became a volunteer for registered voters of Georgia and began attending
political rallies for civil rights. Zin would eventually become an influence for some of Alice
Walker s later writing. In 1963, Walker left Spelman for Sarah Lawrence College, a place housing
only a handful of African Americanpeople, most of them men. This was Walker s predecessor to
participating in many civil rights demonstrations and meeting Martin Luther King at his home in
recognition of her invitation to the Youth World Peace Festival in Finland (Bates, Alice Walker: A
Critical Companion). 1964 was the turning point for Alice Walker. Realising that she was
pregnant she contemplated suicide and slept with her razor under her pillow for three nights
(Bates, Alice Walker: A Critical Companion). During the same week, Walker again turned to
writing as a natural outlet for her distress. She stopped writing only to eat and sleep. Thankfully,
through the help of a friend, Walker was able to attain a safe abortion. The end product of weeks of
anguish was, among other things, a story entitled To Hell with Dying and with the help of teacher

Character Analysis Of Shylock In The Merchant Of Venice
In The Merchant of Venice, Shylock is one of Shakespeare s most complicated characters.
Throughout the play he seemingly hates everyone save Tubal, a Jewish friend. He even refuses to
acknowledge his daughter because she runs away to marry Lorenzo. Nevertheless, Shylock is a
fascinating character because initially it is difficult to know whether to embrace him or reject him.
To support Shylockis to condone murder, but to reject Shylock is to ignore the plight of someone
who seems to be hated possibly because of his religion and race. However, as Shylock s character is
gradually revealed through his famous defensive speech, Shakespeare leads us to dislike Shylock
and recognize his character as one of pitiful selfishness.
Act III begins with Salanio and Salarino discussing the unfortunate wrecks of Antonio s ships, a
tragedy that sets the stage for the eventual courtroom encounter between Shylock and Antonio.
Shylock s speech is bookended by an argument that he has with Salanio and Salarino. Shylock
accuses them of knowing that Jessica, Shylock s daughter, has run away. They parry that they did
in fact know, but they are not apologetic for it. Salarino then changes the subject and asks Shylock
whether he has any knowledge of Antonio s losses. Salarino asks Shylock what benefit there
would be in taking a man s flesh, a question which prompts Shylock to begin his discourse.
Shylock begins his speech with a litany of wrongs he has suffered at the hand of Antonio. Shylock

The school employs a number of sanctions to enforce school rules and to ensure a safe and positive
learning environment. We employ each sanction appropriately to each individual situation.
The reward system is a merit based structure, we give merits to pupils who have worked hard in a
lesson or shown they are following the code of conduct and being a good role model. For unwanted
behaviour we apply a yellow and red card scheme if a child is not behaving in the correct way a
warning is given and if no change in behaviour we would move on to yellow card and then red.
Dealing with conflict and inappropriate behaviour the procedure for any conflict or inappropriate
behaviour taking place would primarily be dealt with by adhering to the rules set out in the

The Tribunes In Julius Caesar Act 1
Act 1 Scene 1 In plays, the type of language said by characters can have double or multiple
meanings. Language can be interpreted to evaluate the main idea of a particular scene in a play. In
Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare introduced a conflict in Act 1 Scene 1 through the use of
language between the conversations of the commoners and the tribunes to indicate that not all are
content with Caesar s trip back home. To begin, the tribunes speech differs from the commoners
because they are degrading and dehumanizing them. The tribunes perceive the commoners
differently, based on class distinctions, education, and wealth. Having said that, they believe it s
alright to speak lowly towards them. For example, Falvius said, Being mechanical,

Dr Strangelove is the more comical version of the issues at hand, involving the Cold War. The
filmmakers of Dr. Strangelove took the idea of this horrible bomb and projected it to be comical
and something that we should just accept. The subtitle of the movie How I learned to stop
worrying and love The Bomb was implying we shouldn t worry about nuclear bombs for the
reason that there is nothing an ordinary person, can do to stop it. The subtitle is a way of saying
that no one is really in control over the deployment of nuclear weapons. In Dr. Strangelove they
recognized that the Soviet Union had been working on a Doomsday device. An obsessive right
wing commander found a way to declare red alert, that lead to a domino effect of events that were
unstoppable resulting in mass destruction. At the beginning of the movie they placed a disclaimer
stating that the Air Force would prevent [this type of incident from happening, and that] none of
the characters portrayed in this film are meant to represent any real persons living or dead (Dr.
Strangelove, Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.) The male sex drive is what

Green Fluorescent Protein Lab Essay
Title: Purification of Green Fluorescent Protein
Introduction: Transformation is used to introduce a gene coding for a foreign protein into bacteria.
Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC) is used to purify the foreign protein. Protein gel
electrophoresis is used to check and analyze the pure protein. Research scientists use Green
Fluorescent Protein (GFP) as a master or tag to learn about the biology of individual cells and
multicultural organisms. This lab introduces a rapid method to purify recombinant GFP using HIC.
Once the protein is purified, it may be analyzed using polysaccharide gel electrophoresis (PAGE).
Purpose: To illustrate the process of transformation and perform it using Green Fluorescent Protein.

Success Is An Important Aspects Of Success
My ideal of success is setting and accomplishing goals you have set for yourself. Success can be
achieved through determination, staying focused, and overcoming obstacles. Determination is
a quality that makes you continue trying. I feel determination is an important aspect of
achieving success because staying determined to achieve a goal, gets you one step closer to
being successful in the goal you ve set for yourself. I was able to achieve my goal of becoming a
good basketball player, through determination. I started basketball when I was 12 years old,
with no experience. I was scared to get into something totally different than the usual sports I
played but wanted to achieve and be successful as a player and a teammate, so I started asking
for feedback on everything I did, like dribbling and shooting hoops. I made sure I was at every
practice and game with a positive attitude and ready to learn. I also asked for coaching assistance
and practiced once a week with a coach, in order to strive at being the best player I could be. A
few months went by and my routine of practicing every day, asking for feedback, and staying
determined to be better, paid off, I was not only a better player, but I also became the teams
MVP. Another aspect of being successful is staying focused. The word focused means to direct
time and attention to a limited number of issues. An example of someone who is staying focused,
in order to achieve being successful would be my 15 year old brother

Ethical Considerations Of Organ Transplants
A human life is precious. When a procedure takes place to extend a life, there s many regulations
doctors must abide by. An organ transplant is a laborious process due to the National Organ
Transplant Act (NOTA) of 1984. NOTA established the national Organ Procurement and Transplant
Network (OPTN) for matching donor organs to waiting recipients. The United Network for Organ
Sharing (UNOS) is the organization that manages the OPTN, pretty much responsible for making
and managing the connections between donors and recipients. The donor s blood type and body
size is provided to UNOS. The UNOS computer system then matches the donated organs to patients
who are potential recipients of the needed organs. The recipient is selected on different criteria;...

in the auto business? In terms of communication and coordination, vertical integration leads to
efficient and effective collaboration between supplier and Dell, and between Dell and customer
through the physical proximity, established patterns of communications, and greater willingness to

Ford should trim its supplier networks down to one or two tier and select the suppliers with
advanced and compatible IT capabilities. In the meantime, Ford should pay more attention to

fashion. Ford also needs to encourage the dealers to improve their IT ability and much more involve
them in forecasting demand. 4) If you were Teri Takai, what would you recommend to senior
executives? To what degree should Ford emulate Dell s business model?
I will recommend the BOD to approach the Dell model with a prudent attitude, neither too
aggressive nor too timid. Emulating the virtual integration should focus on developing the
strategic partnerships with technologically advanced suppliers and eliminating the correlation
with smaller ones. Ford would make sure that key suppliers have access to forecasting data from
customers purchasing trends and production information to enable a faster order to delivery cycle.
The difference in the distribution model between Dell and Ford lies in the middle link of using
retail shops. Since Ford cannot skip retail as a focal distribution point, it should work on
establishing a network of retail shops that it owned. Ford make sure shops are not affecting

Causes Of Racism In America
The United States of America is a country that was built on the very principles of liberty, freedom,
and prosperity, as well as discrimination and racism. Thomas Paine, a prominent English writer who
supported the American Revolution, argued that America was among the best nations in the entire
world. He believed that the government was completely fair, that tolerance existed in all parts of
the country, and that America was the land of diversity. His claims, although seemingly positive,
are not completely consistent with the history nor status of this nation today. The tolerance and
freedom in this country was achieved at a very high cost. Although America is a democracy and its
citizens are widely diverse, it is also a place of bigotry and political unsettlement. Despite the fact
that America has made significant progress towards tolerance and acceptance, this country still
today struggles with politics and has unresolved issues with the government.
Racism has been a drag within the us of America for a protracted time, qualitative analysis back to

which allow the reader to understand the characters and story better.
Black Science is an enjoyable read because the drama and thrills cease to end. Even though the

household (U.S.

up to three children, in which the Simpson family has: Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Also, the average
American is a blue collar worker. The father figure, Homer, meets this factor with his job at the
nuclear power plant within his hometown of Springfield. So according to the statistics, the Simpson
family could be considered an average American family.
In the next part of the essay, I will look at each individual character of the Simpson family, and

stereotypes, but nothing is full proof. I will look at some of the character s traits and try to relate

house quite often (Hall, quot;The

Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno
Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno
Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued
that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the
will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The
placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit
subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is
painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of
their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante
arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and
critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante
created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their
lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally
inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and
critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite
view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each
of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the

Daisy Buchanan of The Great Gatsby and Brett Ashley of The Sun Also Rises
Written right after the publication of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, Hemingway s The Sun Also

manifested in Hemingway s portrayal of his heroine, Brett Ashley. Numerous critics have noted and
discussed the similarities between Brett and Daisy Buchanan, and rightly so; but the two women
also have fundamental differences. Compared to Daisy, Brett is a more rounded, complex character,
and Hemingway has treated her with more sympathy than Fitzgerald has with Daisy. Some

Gatsby sinks into it, allowing his imagination to exaggerate until finally,
The colossal vitality of his illusion ... had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown
himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright
feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up
in his ghostly heart (101).
That dream is also empty because Daisy is empty. Fitzgerald depicts her as an empty, useless and
dependent female who ultimately lacks definition. Whereas Gatsby works to pursue Daisy, Nick
has a regular job, and even Jordan has her tournaments; Daisy does not have a purpose, a
profession, or even a talent for anything. Her purposelessness is apparent in this scene with Jordan
Baker:
We ought to plan something, yawned Miss Baker, sitting down at the table as if she were getting
into bed.
All right, said Daisy. What ll we plan? She turned to me helplessly. What do people plan? (16)
More literally, Daisy ruins Gatsby by killing Myrtle Wilson and letting him take the blame for it,
thus ultimately causing his death. Of course, one may argue that Gatsby himself is willing to take
the blame for her:
Was Daisy driving?
Yes, he said after a moment, but of course I ll say I was. (151)

Analysis Of Domestic Unrest And Jennifer Johnston s...
One of the critics who discuss Johnston s work is Laila Khan. In her essay, Domestic Unrest
and Jennifer Johnston s Fiction of the Irish Trouble, Khan focuses on how Johnston s novels do
not concentrate on the violence happening in the nation, but instead how she uses Irish domestic
fictions to explored alternative approaches to friendships and family bonds that could exist
when women reject nationalist narratives (2). Khan s essay analyzes these trends in
relationship to the mothers in Johnston s The Railway Station Man and Shadows on Our Skin.
While women often are representative of Ireland in Irish fictions, Khan notes that Johnston
purposely creates mothers that refuses to act as mouthpieces for national rhetoric in the home,
choosing instead passivity or alternative kinships as what they see as the only escape (3). An
example of this from Shadows on Our Skin is the way the Mrs. Logan has sent her eldest son
Brendon off to England in hopes of keeping him safe (3). According to Khan, the purpose of this
is to keep him away from his pro Nationalist father, [and] also out of the Irish public sphere (3). In
The Railway Station Man, Helen is less interested in protesting political involvement than she is in
escaping it entirely (6). It is because of this that Helen is unlike many mother, she does not force
her son to owe her anything (9). This analysis differs from the one that will be examined in this

There is increasing evidence that poverty, unemployment and social stress are all now seen in
British Inner Cities. There are
many problems which the areas face, both physically and even in some cases mentally:
1.the physical fabric of the buildings, many originally built using cheap materials and methods, is
deteriorating rapidly.
However the councils are trying to upgrade these poor housing conditions gradually.
2.Many inner city areas include high rise buildings which have created feelings or isolation and

3.The low level or car ownership and high bus fares have increased the feeling of isolation from

Teenage Girls
As a matter of fact, teenage girls are not the only ones who fall victim to the ideal of beauty.
Teenage boys are going through very similar situations. Media and advertisements set their
standards for men to be tall, muscular, board upper body, v line and have beards etc. Neither
males nor females live without having standards set up for them by society and media. Widely
held perceptions of beauty and perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both
women and men. Some impact is that these standards will continue to exist in our future culture
and both genders will never feel comfortable in their own skin/body. Both men and women
would continue to judge themselves and their beauty. Magazines and advertisements usually
have images of men without their shirts in order to show off their muscles and to attract
customers. This makes members of society expect to see a six pack,v line and pectorals when a
male takes off their shirt. This gives teenage boys fear to take off their shirt when going to the
beach or smaller situations like going inside a pool because they are scared to be criticized for not
being muscular. Magazines display images of these fake models for both men and women which
creates intimidation. Study of mass mediamagazines discovered that women s magazines had 10.5
times more advertisements and articles promoting weight lossthan men s magazines did (as cited in
Guillen Barr.1944). The ideal of beauty targets women more than men. In

that specific professionals can read it. The first EKG was made by Willem Einthoven, a Dutch
Java island (now called Indonesia) born citizen. Willem was born the 21st day of May 1860. His
father, Jacob Einthoven, was born and educated in Groningen (Netherlands). His father was also ...

At the latter end of the p q interval, atrial contraction occurs forcing additional blood into the
ventricles. At the beginning of the QRS interval on an ECG reading, the mitral valve closes and
the ventricles are at EDV (135ml). During the QRS interval, ventricular contraction occurs
increasing the pressure in the ventricle and the aorta. When the pressure continues in the
ventricle exceeds the pressure in the arteries, the aortic valve opens and blood is ejected. The
increased pressure continues through the t peak. The ventricles are now in ESV (65ml) and the
aortic valve is closed. Now the ventricles are relaxed causing pressure to fall and the cardiac
cycle starts over again. This ECG reading was from a normal tracing. Keep in mind that an ECV is
easy to obtain, but there are some subtleties that are very complex.
Exercise increases heart rate by a process of sympathetic autonomic stimulation. Sympathetic
(adrenergic) nerves increase the excitability of the sino atrial node and reduce the P R interval .As
exercise continues, the physiological changes in the body are continuously monitored by a number
of physiological systems and the balance of activity of the sympathetic system (speeding up) and
the parasympathetic system (slowing down) is constantly adjusted. When exercise is over, the
heart rate does not drop immediately as the body has to undergo a period of re adaption to return to
the resting state.

The Pros And Cons Of Bottle Nosed Dolphins
Bottle nosed Dolphins are often regarded as being one of the smartest animal to have existed. Their
existence has been over the past few centuries have been noted and highly complimented for being
close allies of humans. In recent years, over the past few decades, the controversy of keeping
dolphins under human captivity has blown way up and received uncanny amounts of criticism for
holding dolphins in smaller aquariums for human entertainment. The ethicality of bottle nosed
dolphincaptivity is frequently questioned, however the quality of life and health of the dolphins is
often not acknowledged to its full potential or received praise for the benefits constant human
supervision has for dolphin life.
Dolphins are social animals, when in the wild they live in pods varying in sizes from 2 40
dolphins. They develop a social hierarchy with either a head male or female to essentially lead the
group. In comparison, social bonds between dolphins and even their trainers in their tanks have also
been found to have remarkable bonds, and specifically the partnership between the dolphin and its
trainer has been notarized for their mutual respect. However, the human communication is nothing
in comparison to the conversing between an actual pods of dolphins in the wild with one ultimate
goal of survival.

Millions of dollars have been invested into vet care and machines to help with the care of dolphins,

of the constantly monitored lives of the mammals, and because of the near to zero threat level.
Having no predators in captivity guarantees them safety, however an unnatural life. (Schaefer,

The language
What is language?
As North Americans living in the early 21st century, we have been educated about language from
the time we entered school. But much of what we learn about language in schools belongs more
to a folk model than to an analytic model of language. Here are several pervasive aspects of our
folk model of language.
Language is a communication system. It is true that we use language to communicate with others.
However, language is much more than a communication system. The most recent thinking about the
nature of language suggests that language is first and foremost a representational system; a system
which provides us with the symbols we need to model for ourselves, to ourselves, inside our heads,
the universe around us. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
not be there not any beer brewed among Estonians There is no beer brewed among the Estonians.
Furthermore, in some languages, like Spanish and Russian, so called double negatives are the rule,
rather than the exception. Note the Spanish and Russian expressions for I don t see anything.
Spanish: Yo no veo nada. I no see nothing
Russian: Ya ne vizhu nichevo.
These are the normal, indeed the only, way of expressing this in Spanish and Russian. If
language worked like formal logic, Spanish and Russian speakers would be suffering from a
permament case of illogic. Since speakers of Spanish and Russian appear to be normal human
beings, we have to conclude that language does not obey the rules of formal logic.
Thus, the rule against double negatives formulated by Bishop Lowth is not a grammar rule, but
rather a social rule having to do with what he considered to be the acceptable use of English.
Language is pure and unchanging. As a conservative society heavily focused on written, rather than
oral, forms of language, we tend to think that change, in language as in many other things, is bad. A
whole industry of language experts such as Edwin Newman and William Safire regularly rant

Yellow Fever Outbreak
Yellow fever is a viral infection that is transmitted by mosquitoes. This communicable disease has
had an outbreak that crossed international borders within the past five years. According to WHO
(2017), countries that have been affected by the outbreaks include Brazil January 2000,
Netherlands February 2000, Nigeria May 2000, Liberia August 2000, Guinea December 2000,
CГґte d Ivoire May 2001, Peru June 2001, Belgium November 2001, Senegal January 2001,

Due to the potential deadly nature of the Yellow Fever, it would be vital that people within the
community get vaccinated immediately after an outbreak happens. India is a highly populated
area with a generally warm climate. The environment in India would sustain the vectors necessary
for transmitting Yellow Fever, and the massive quantity of potential hosts could lead to a massive
outbreak. Businesses would be affected because travel into the outbreak area would slow down.
The local government would have to focus on the outbreak instead of other local issues. The local
government would have to report the case to the higher levels of government and thus relaying the
information to the World Health Organization. Hospitals would have to supply screening and
vaccinations to the citizens of the community. Patients would fill hospital beds until treatment is
finished, and this would lead to an overcrowding of patients in the hospital. Schools would have
to have ways of getting screening of students. Due to the students being close to one another
throughout the day, the students would need bug spray, and long sleeved shirts with pants. The
school would have to use money on resources such as screens for open windows and doors so
that the vectors cannot get into the classrooms. Prevention is key when discussing how to put a
stop to outbreaks like yellow fever. There are two main prevention strategies one should follow to
avoid yellow fever. The first one involves the use of personal protective measures to limit your
exposure to the mosquitoes. Firstly, this includes the use of insect repellent. The CDC recommends
Environmental Protecting Agency registered insect repellent because it contains certain chemicals

Examples Of Face Negotiation Theory
OPTION #2 THEORY EXPLORATIONS2
Option #2 Theory Explorations
What do money, time and face have in common? They are all something that people try to save.
Some cultures in the world are focused on saving money, some on saving time. Yet, unlike money
or time, there exists a universal desire among all peoples to save face. This saving of face during a
conflict and it s intercultural understanding is known as the Face Negotiation Theory. The Face
Negotiation Theory has evolved since its first inception; however, it continues to be highly
applicable with broad applications worldwide.
The Face Negotiation Theory Defined The Face Negotiation Theory was proposed by researcher
Stella Ting Toomey in 1985 Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). It is based on the concept that individuals
of every culture found in the world care about how their face (or self image) is presented and it
seeks to explain the reason individuals of different cultures manage conflicts which occur in
different ways (Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). In conflicts, a person s face may be under threat and
this causes an individual to want to save or restore their face. The theory calls this behavior

Therefore, Ting Toomey expanded upon concepts in Goffman s theory. She defined face as a
positive social self image which occurred in both relationships and network contexts. Ting Toomey
developed a theory (described above) which incorporated multiple contexts which included filtering
the theory through the perspective of the Asian culture (Communication Studies, n.d.). In fact, face
is a metaphor with Chinese origins. It seems it is a combination of the Chinese lien which
represents the internal moral face which is applicable to shame as well as honor issues (Brown
Levinson, 1978). In addition, mien tzu represents the external face which is applicable to social
recognition and power (Brown Levinson,

Column Of Trajan Analysis
The Column of Trajan is a very interesting piece of Art and drew my attention right away with the
commentary of the picture on pg. 141. Apollodorus of Damascus, who was also the creator of the
Pantheon, designed the column and it was built from 106 C.E to 113 C.E. by the emperor Trajan in
the Forum of Trajan, Rome. It is very interesting to learn that columns were mainly constructed to
celebrate military victories, with reliefs starting from the bottom and wrapping around the
structure ending at the top. It seems odd to me since, there was no really way to read or see the
stories from the ground without a scaffolding or structure built around it because it stood 125 feet
tall with a base that was probably 15 feet. The Column of Trajan does

My High School Job

part time job. I will be working this job to save enough money to go to my dream college, Full Sail

that to models in video games. By going to Full Sail, in particular, I feel that I may have a better
chance of successfully getting a job in that field. I have already planned out my future, and have
been doing so since seventh grade. I wanted to be prepared by the time I graduated because I knew

History Of Jack The Ripper
Who is Jack the Ripper?
From August 1888 to November of the same year, the Whitechapel area of London was under
attack by an unknown assailant. He terrorized the district, as well as surrounding areas, by killing
and mutilating prostitutes all within a mile of each other (Biography.com Editors, 2015). During
that time, violence towards prostitutes was not unusual, but the way the bodies were attacked and
dismembered lead officials to believe the killings were acted out by a single offender
(Biography.com Editors, 2015).
It can be construed; the Ripper killings suggested a sociopathic tendency with a deep hatred of
women. Not only did he kill them by slicing their throats, but he also dismembered and mutilated
their bodies. It is hard to determine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Using fingerprint analysis and DNA, we can streamline the identification process and allow the
perpetrators to be named. With all the dismemberment Jack the Ripper participated in amongst his
victims it is likely he injured himself in the process. Not only could his DNA have been at the crime
scene, but trace evidence from his hair or clothing fibers could have also been there. At that time,
when technology was sparse, they were unaware of the possibilities that awaited their future
generation. However, as time passed and advances were made, it can be concluded that with urban

Tangible Property is defined as the type of property we can see and touch (Jennings, 2006). At each
of Riordan s locations, they maintain a variety of tangible property, such as: general office
equipment, transportation equipment, and information technology equipment. Riordan must
develop a better system to track the purchase, and use of this equipment, including management of
leases, maintenance, and general accounting guidelines.
Riordan also maintains a supply of raw materials at each location. However, there is not currently
a process in place of investigating any missing material (University of Phoenix, 2009). It is
recommended that Riordan develop a process for documenting the full inventory process from
delivery to use in order to assist any investigation into missing materials.
In addition, Riordan needs to develop a much more robust security and emergency plan to protect
these assets from theft or other damages.

Allowing someone to choose when to die, in the face of intolerable pain, is seen by South
Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society (SAVES) as the most dignified and compassionate
remedy to end suffering (South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society 1995). Therefore, present
legislation allowing patients to refuse treatment does not help them to die with any dignity. 5.2 Life
Support
The cost of healthcare has risen dramatically and shows every sign of continuing to do so
(Australian Psychological Society n.d.). The Australian Psychological Society claim that for
many, the improper use of life support systems to temporary lengthen life, without any
improvement in the quality of life, can be used as a good argument for euthanasia (Australian
Psychological Society n.d.). Medical policy and hospital practice means decisions are already
being made about who qualifies for life support. This implies an already covert practice of
euthanasia (Chaney 2001). Therefore, some form of legalisation would acknowledge an already
existing practice and extend the decision making to the patient also.
5.3 Public Opinion
Recent studies and polls in Australia seem to show support from both professionals and the general
public for individuals to have the right to choose between euthanasia as an alternative to a life of
suffering (What is euthanasia? 2006, para 8). If it is supposed that legislation should represent the
views of the public, then

meeting I got a chance to speak with the wife of a guest speaker and she explained to me how
the meeting was going to go. They first read two chapters from a book that was used in this
program and everyone was required to have. Then, they had their guess speaker talk about their
experience and how it was for him to go through the process which kept him sober for 30 years.
After he was done talking, for the rest of the hour people were called on to come up and share
their story. However they were asked to share a small part of their story so everyone could get a
chance to talk a little and have the opportunity to feel heard. It was interesting how every story was

Thoughts on Being Humble
What is the purpose of being humble, when should we be humble, and is being humble overrated?
Do people only dislike other people for being cocky because they doubt themselves?
Personally, I do not mind it much when people brag about what they have achieved or have done.
More often than not, I know they never intentionally mean any harm by doing so. Why should I
mind? They re only excited about their life, right?
It is always easy to remain humble when everything is good and dandy, but the moment someone
criticizes them, they tend to withdraw, especially if the person criticizing does so in a tone which
may not be soothing enough.
I know people who swear on their lives they are humble, yet, they are not. They are so deep in ...

We must strive to remember how to behave during tough situations.
In contrast, I can understand why it isn t a good idea to be humble also. In other countries,
people tend to be less direct, or more humble during business or discussions. America tends to be
more direct, and if people who tend to be more direct are less understanding and less able to
recognize one who is less direct during a conversation, we must remember that there is a potential
that the humble person may be perceived as a weak individual, whether it be physically, mentally,
or via business.
I propose we be humble, confident, and persistent. We can prove ourselves to ourselves by
consistently making things happen by REMEMBERING to take positive action. Let us advance in
life by remembering to remain humble during proper moments because it is those moments which
shape our destiny.
Being humble is the same as having a student mentality, and it is much more difficult to learn when
we lack a student mentality. We simply become less receptive to knowledge.
Also, you may want to keep in mind that cockiness and talking about what you want to do may
cause people to resent you, and people often do not like to see cocky or arrogant individuals rise
above levels which they themselves have yet to achieve. It is easier to rise above when we remain
humble because people will like us better.
Another good reason to be humble is because we never know when the tables

The differences between the high school, college, and professional level are more physical. In high school there is no shot clock and there are 8 minute quarters, in college there is a 30 second shot clock and 20 minute halves, and in the NBA, there is a 24 second shot clock and 12 minute quarters. The other differences would be that the offenses are more advanced the higher level you are, the game is at a much faster pace, the players are faster, quicker, and stronger, and in the NBA, the players get ... Throughout the play he seemingly hates everyone save Tubal, a Jewish friend. He even refuses to acknowledge his daughter because she runs away to marry Lorenzo. Nevertheless, Shylock is a fascinating character because initially it is difficult to know whether to embrace him or reject him. To support Shylockis to condone murder, but to reject Shylock is to ignore the plight of someone who seems to be hated possibly because of his religion and race. However, as Shylock s character is gradually revealed through his famous defensive speech, Shakespeare leads us to dislike Shylock and recognize his character as one of pitiful selfishness. Act III begins with Salanio and Salarino discussing the unfortunate wrecks of Antonio s ships, a tragedy that sets the stage for the eventual courtroom encounter between Shylock and Antonio. Shylock s speech is bookended by an argument that he has with Salanio and Salarino. Shylock accuses them of knowing that Jessica, Shylock s daughter, has run away. They parry that they did in fact know, but they are not apologetic for it. Salarino then changes the subject and asks Shylock whether he has any knowledge of Antonio s losses. Salarino asks Shylock what benefit there would be in taking a man s flesh, a question which prompts Shylock to begin his discourse. His failures were a result of poor planning, prompt or advance requesting of resources, and a failure to communicate with his team, management and the end user. Steve s job as the PM is to monitor progress, ensure key stakeholders keep their people focused on the task and prevent delays, or if delays occur communicate those issues to management. Managing stake holders and keeping them focused on requirements and due dates goes a long way towards preventing problems. Steve seems to have failed at this. 2b. In this essay, I will examine and analyze each business entity that is discussed in our class textbook. The book displays five types business entities. For each business entity, I will go in depth and define each usage and develop some pros and cons ideas. A business entity can be defined as an association that launches itself as a distinct presence for devotions with taxes. A general partnership would be easier to practice if two or more partners who strive to be vigorously convoluted in the company. One of the major advantages of a partnership is the tax treatment it entails. A partnership does not pay tax on its earnings but passes through any profits or losses to the individual partners. Usually, what constitutes making up a family is relative to a specific culture, but as always, there are exceptions to the rule. Even as early as the 1950 s, television producers made programming that would represent what exactly the ideal American family was. Take for example the show quot;Leave It to Beaver quot;. The father figure, Homer, meets this factor with his job at the nuclear power plant within his hometown of Springfield. So according to the statistics, the Simpson family could be considered an average American family. In the next part of the essay, I will look at each individual character of the Simpson family, and try to relate how that individual could be considered a typical American. • 34. Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Analysis Of Domestic Unrest And Jennifer Johnston s... One of the critics who discuss Johnston s work is Laila Khan. In her essay, Domestic Unrest and Jennifer Johnston s Fiction of the Irish Trouble, Khan focuses on how Johnston s novels do not concentrate on the violence happening in the nation, but instead how she uses Irish domestic fictions to explored alternative approaches to friendships and family bonds that could exist when women reject nationalist narratives (2). Khan s essay analyzes these trends in relationship to the mothers in Johnston s The Railway Station Man and Shadows on Our Skin. While women often are representative of Ireland in Irish fictions, Khan notes that Johnston purposely creates mothers that refuses to act as mouthpieces for national rhetoric in the home, choosing instead passivity or alternative kinships as what they see as the only escape (3). An example of this from Shadows on Our Skin is the way the Mrs. Logan has sent her eldest son Brendon off to England in hopes of keeping him safe (3). According to Khan, the purpose of this is to keep him away from his pro Nationalist father, [and] also out of the Irish public sphere (3). In The Railway Station Man, Helen is less interested in protesting political involvement than she is in escaping it entirely (6). Media and advertisements set their standards for men to be tall, muscular, board upper body, v line and have beards etc. Neither males nor females live without having standards set up for them by society and media. Widely held perceptions of beauty and perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men. Some impact is that these standards will continue to exist in our future culture and both genders will never feel comfortable in their own skin/body. Both men and women would continue to judge themselves and their beauty. Magazines and advertisements usually have images of men without their shirts in order to show off their muscles and to attract customers. This makes members of society expect to see a six pack,v line and pectorals when a male takes off their shirt. This gives teenage boys fear to take off their shirt when going to the beach or smaller situations like going inside a pool because they are scared to be criticized for not being muscular. Language is a communication system. It is true that we use language to communicate with others. However, language is much more than a communication system. Some cultures in the world are focused on saving money, some on saving time. Yet, unlike money or time, there exists a universal desire among all peoples to save face. This saving of face during a conflict and it s intercultural understanding is known as the Face Negotiation Theory. The Face Negotiation Theory has evolved since its first inception; however, it continues to be highly applicable with broad applications worldwide. The Face Negotiation Theory Defined The Face Negotiation Theory was proposed by researcher Stella Ting Toomey in 1985 Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). It is based on the concept that individuals of every culture found in the world care about how their face (or self image) is presented and it seeks to explain the reason individuals of different cultures manage conflicts which occur in different ways (Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). Tangible Property Tangible Property is defined as the type of property we can see and touch (Jennings, 2006). At each of Riordan s locations, they maintain a variety of tangible property, such as: general office equipment, transportation equipment, and information technology equipment. Riordan must develop a better system to track the purchase, and use of this equipment, including management of leases, maintenance, and general accounting guidelines. Riordan also maintains a supply of raw materials at each location. However, there is not currently a process in place of investigating any missing material (University of Phoenix, 2009). It is recommended that Riordan develop a process for documenting the full inventory process from delivery to use in order to assist any investigation into missing materials. In addition, Riordan needs to develop a much more robust security and emergency plan to protect these assets from theft or other damages. Allowing someone to choose when to die, in the face of intolerable pain, is seen by South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society (SAVES) as the most dignified and compassionate remedy to end suffering (South Australian Voluntary Euthanasia Society 1995). Therefore, present legislation allowing patients to refuse treatment does not help them to die with any dignity. 5.2 Life Support The cost of healthcare has risen dramatically and shows every sign of continuing to do so (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). The Australian Psychological Society claim that for many, the improper use of life support systems to temporary lengthen life, without any improvement in the quality of life, can be used as a good argument for euthanasia (Australian Psychological Society n.d.). Medical policy and hospital practice means decisions are already being made about who qualifies for life support. This implies an already covert practice of euthanasia (Chaney 2001). Therefore, some form of legalisation would acknowledge an already existing practice and extend the decision making to the patient also. 5.3 Public Opinion Recent studies and polls in Australia seem to show support from both professionals and the general public for individuals to have the right to choose between euthanasia as an alternative to a life of suffering (What is euthanasia? 2006, para 8). If it is supposed that legislation should represent the views of the public, then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the beginning of the meeting I got a chance to speak with the wife of a guest speaker and she explained to me how the meeting was going to go. They first read two chapters from a book that was used in this program and everyone was required to have. Then, they had their guess speaker talk about their experience and how it was for him to go through the process which kept him sober for 30 years. After he was done talking, for the rest of the hour people were called on to come up and share their story. However they were asked to share a small part of their story so everyone could get a chance to talk a little and have the opportunity to feel heard. • 56. Thoughts on Being Humble What is the purpose of being humble, when should we be humble, and is being humble overrated? Do people only dislike other people for being cocky because they doubt themselves? Personally, I do not mind it much when people brag about what they have achieved or have done. More often than not, I know they never intentionally mean any harm by doing so. Why should I mind? They re only excited about their life, right? It is always easy to remain humble when everything is good and dandy, but the moment someone criticizes them, they tend to withdraw, especially if the person criticizing does so in a tone which may not be soothing enough. I know people who swear on their lives they are humble, yet, they are not. They are so deep in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We must strive to remember how to behave during tough situations. In contrast, I can understand why it isn t a good idea to be humble also. In other countries, people tend to be less direct, or more humble during business or discussions. America tends to be more direct, and if people who tend to be more direct are less understanding and less able to recognize one who is less direct during a conversation, we must remember that there is a potential that the humble person may be perceived as a weak individual, whether it be physically, mentally, or via business. I propose we be humble, confident, and persistent. We can prove ourselves to ourselves by consistently making things happen by REMEMBERING to take positive action. Let us advance in life by remembering to remain humble during proper moments because it is those moments which shape our destiny. Being humble is the same as having a student mentality, and it is much more difficult to learn when we lack a student mentality. We simply become less receptive to knowledge. Also, you may want to keep in mind that cockiness and talking about what you want to do may cause people to resent you, and people often do not like to see cocky or arrogant individuals rise above levels which they themselves have yet to achieve. It is easier to rise above when we remain humble because people will like us better. Another good reason to be humble is because we never know when the tables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
