devices, the poet emphasizes both perspectives as they relate to separate groups of people and are
shown simply through analysis of the poem. While the lover overzealously believes his love can
transcend time, the clocks counter by stating that time s relentlessness erodes all. The overzealous
beliefs brought about by love can be seen in the attitude of the lover, who acts as though his love will
never die and can never be changed by time. When speaking to his lover, he says I ll love you, dear, I

was looking forward to was band. I knew band was the same no matter where I was. Little did I know

Into today s society mental health has become something that is becoming more known to individuals.
Mental health is something that is as serious as a physical illness but it is still feared and
misunderstood by many people including those who are diagnosed with mental illness. There are
many forms of mental illness that include; anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, eating
disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and phobias and panic disorders. Many individuals with
mental health seek help from doctors and are usually prescribed different medications. Dealing with a
mental health issue is hard enough as it is because many people misunderstand them and they carry a
stigma with the mental illness that needs to be overcome by the individual. For those newly diagnosed
medications are given to help improve the psychosis, hallucinations and major depressive disorder
with great success, but for many the medication that is given has a side effect that makes the patient
gain large amounts of weight throughout treatment. Not only are you dealing with stress from being
diagnosed with a mental illness and learning to cope but now you are also given the stress of caring
extra weight around and having people judge you because of your weight gain not knowing what

What Does The Eye Of The Storm Mean
Studs Terkel (1980) relates C. P. Ellis story about how his experiences organizing a union opened his
eyes about how corporations treat minorities, and resulted in a new understanding of the people
around him even though he was a former Klansman. I have never been in the Klan or organized a
union, but a similar turning point for me came for me when I saw the movie The Eye of the Storm,
about Jane Elliot s experiment with white schoolchildren in Riceville, Iowa. This experiment
demonstrated to me how children respond to cultural cues first from their parents and family
members, but then through the institutions they are forced to participate in like school; the church;
other families and supervisory agencies. If even white children can be taught to discriminate against
other white children on something as arbitrary and insubstantial as eye color, then how easy it must be
to train them to respond in denigrating ways to people with different skin color, body shapes or
language for example, I realized. This changed my perspective on racism and ethnicity and while I
have since done much research and believe education is the secret, the way I have decided to
implement change in my own life, is to speak out when I hear someone making a denigrating
comment.
This goes back to what I learned from The Eye of the Storm, where if people accept certain behaviors
as normal, as the children in Ms. Elliot s class were trained to do, then they become so reinforced as to
turn into norms
