The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes, one on each side of the trachea, below the
level of the larynx. These lobes are connected by a narrow piece of tissue called the isthmus
(Johnstone, Farley, Hendry, McLafferty, 2014). The thyroidconsists of follicles, which contain
follicular cells that synthesize and secrete the thyroid hormones. These hormones are tetra
iodothyronine or thyroxine (T4), tri iodothyronine (T3) and calcitonin. The main function of the
thyroid gland is to control the body s metabolic rate; however in children it also controls growth
and development (Warren, 2014). The thyroid gland is controlled by thyroid stimulating hormone
(TSH), which is secreted by the pituitary gland (Warren, 2014). These hormones are produced by
an endocrine feedback loop that allows the body to control their release according to need (Hall,
2010). The hypothalamus, which synthesizes and secretes Thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH),
initiates this loop (Hall, 2010). These hormones can be measured in the blood and are important in
diagnosing and managing thyroid disease. Thyroid disease is seen in three forms: under activity
(hypothyroidism), over activity (hyperthyroidism) and swelling of the thyroid. Thyroid disease is
one of the most common disorders of the endocrine system and is more common in women than
men.

by considering the women as for whether they are the right woman for Ivanhoe leaves both
Rowena and Rebecca matched, with a slight inclination towards Rebecca. However, if we
consider the rules of medieval chivalry, we instantly comprehend that Rowena is the right
woman for Ivanhoe. In this literary analysis, I will first explain how Rowena and Rebecca

works. This is the case In Ernest Hemingways a clean well lighted place is a short story about two
waiters, and an old, deaf man in a late night cafe. The young waiter is tired and impatiently
waiting for the old man to leave so he can go home. The older waiter tries to explain to him why
the old man is there at the cafe instead of a bar or bodegas. The short story is a set of dialogs,
and within these we learn that some need a safe haven for their despair. Some need a clean and

To start with, the setting of this story takes place in what is most likely Spain. The title plays a

In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing critical
themes combining spiritual and religious traditions resonating with the audience. The compelling
themes demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of role in women, connection to
nature, traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman
myself, I can feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in
convincing her grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider.
As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the
birth of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of
the film. Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born; this is because both her mother
and brother [ who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as
Koro searches for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death
of his wife, Koro searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of
her sex. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by
attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her
uncle whom she privately learns from.

I created a investing formative assessment to check for understanding. In the process of creating
this assessment I wanted to discover how comfortable the students were with each security and
savings plan. In order to accomplish this I designed a short google form that has every security
and savings plan we discussed. The students are to rate their level of understanding on each. I
chose this method to allow further development into each respective investment. The plan is to
