Evidence Based Management Process
Planning is the process of setting goals and creating a plan for meeting those goals. The benefits of
planning as seen by the research evidence is firstly, it provides a team with a direction for future
actions. For example, in my team we did not have a direction on how to proceed thorough each stage,
if it was better to move up or down, which made our team members losing interest. Furthermore,
planning helps when there is a problem, because if we had a plan we can proactively address problems
and their impact on the project or goal is reduced. For instance, a problem in our Everest simulation
was when of our team members health was critical or if someone wanted to complete an individual
goal, we spent a lot of time discussing on what to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, I will use Evidence based management in my future career, because managers who
practice evidence based management make better management decisions and perform better.
Furthermore, for a evidence based manager, there is always a learning phase, because everyday there
is always new research done to help managers in their decisions making, which makes managers bring
continuance value to an organisation. As, more managers start adopting evidence based management
the gap between manager, scholars and educators become closer, which helps in building a community
for information gathering and sharing. I would use the 6 principles used by Rosseau McCarthy (2007)
as a guideline to manage a modern organisation. Firstly, I would manage an organisation using
principles and theories of behaviour in and out of an organisation that is supported by the best
available research. Secondly, mastering decision awareness which is knowing when an action or non
action is a decision in itself, that if done properly can motivate employees and organisation
performance. Furthermore, as a manager, I would only make decisions when I have the whole picture
of the situation. Moreover, I will manage an organisation by adapting my knowledge and using
effectively in different settings and circumstances. I will also use all important decision support, like
financial performance to help make decision on how the organisation is doing. Finally, an important
part of managing a organisation using evidence based management is to always update my knowledge
in any new developments. Following these principles I will be a better

Hemodialysis In Nursing
Transitioning Into Dialysis
Krista M Walter
Western Governors University
End stage renal disease causes a total life change for someone. Hemodialysis is a type of care people
can choose when their kidneys fail. Kidney failure patients have to start limiting their fluids, start a
new renal diet, and attend dialysis usually three days a week for an average of four hours each visit. A
person with kidney failure whole lifestyle changes. This is an emotional and lifestyle transition for
anyone starting on dialysis. This article is research on how people transition into this new life of being
on hemodialysis and how to make that transition easier. The purpose of this qualitative research is how
a person can adapt and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers put the data received in the interviews into a conceptual map. In the concept map,
they had two categories, the first one that helps a person move into a healthy transition is the
facilitator factors in transition to dialysis, which include personal factors and social factors. The
second category leads to an unhealthy transition and these are the inhibitor factors. The factors would
include personal factors, social factors, and economic problems that arise. Another part of the
conceptual map shows a turning circle that is a constant battle that people must fight to keep moving
towards a healthy transition into dialysis. Another way the researchers analyzed the data from this
study, was by reporting what the people said about their transition into dialysis. For many of these
people, it was a terrible experience. People also shared how hard this life change was on them and
their families. While others shared how they got through the transition positively, and how other
dialysis patients can do the same. In the interviews, they discussed physical changes, mental changes,
and social changes that all took place during this transition into dialysis. In conclusion, the authors see
that now they have more ways to help someone new coming into hemodialysis after chronic kidney
failure starts. This article and interviews have shared the struggles of people on

Auto Window Construction
Before, a harmed auto window implied a great deal of smashed glass or a super measured bug
catching network like break. Today s auto windows have a composite structure that can withstand a
higher level of anxiety and restrict harm without shattering the glass. This development makes it
conceivable to repair most harms without requiring a costly substitution. Auto window repair can
relate to reestablishing any of the glass segments in an auto windshield, entryway windows, back
glass, and sun rooftops.
Things you ought to think around an auto window repair
Auto windows, be it a windshield or a back window, go about as a shield against extreme climate,
shield travelers from flotsam and jetsam and shots, keep tenants from being tossed out in case of a
mischance, and go about as a bolster structure for the rooftop. A window is a basic security segment
that gives drivers a protected ride. It is along these lines critical to repair or supplant a harmed window
to guarantee security.

Conflicts During The Cold War
During the Cold War, there were many elements leading the United States and Soviets into a conflict
and almost into another World War. The Cold War lasted from 1945 to 1991 and invented many
things, for example the doomsday clock which counts down to humanity destruction of nuclear war,
glady never reached midnight. Many of these causes were because of basic philosophical differences
between the US and USSR. Another reason would be broken promises and unsettled arguments made
during World War II or shortly after. Also the spread of communism creating the Iron curtain building
up aggression within the USA and USSR.
The First objective would be there basic philosophical differences as in how their economy and whole
government system works. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book it said that Eastern Europe had already lost to the communist and that this calls the U.S to
help out. This basically meant that communism was spreading and taking down democracy and that
the U.S is needed to stop the threat. So U.S does start helping and we start off by experimenting on
Turkey and Greece.
As the result the United State did something to stop communism spreading and so the Truman
Doctrine was formed. In 1947, Greece and Turkey were in threat by the Soviet Union and were about
to become communist but Truman tells congress for their help so they stabilize their economy by
transferring 400 million dollars and preventing them from becoming communist. This showed nations
that the United States would do anything to stop communist aggression.
In the End, no bullets were fired nor bombs were dropped but this cold war could have lead to the next
World War which would have left the world in shambles of the nuclear power each nation had in there
deposit. Each nation was close to war because of basic philosophical differences and many broken
promises but luckily the doomsday clock never reached

Security Architecture Is Developed For Systems Providing...
X.805 security architecture is developed for systems providing end to end communications. It was
developed by ITU T SG 17 and was published in October 2003.
Issues which X.805 addresses are:
1. What type of protection is to be given against what kind of threats?
2. What are the various kinds of system gear and facility groupings that needs to be secured?
3. What are the different types of network exercises that needs to be secured?
X.805 architecture incorporates three security layers which are as follows:
Infrastructure Security Layer: These are fundamental building pieces of networks services and
applications. Example: routers, switches, servers etc.
Services Security Layer: These are services given to end clients. Example: Cellular, Wi Fi, QoS etc.
Applications Security Layer: These are network based applications used by end clients. Example: E
mail, E commerce etc.
Security planes speak about the types of activities that occur on a network. X.805 architecture has
three security planes, which are as follows:
End User Security Plane: This security plane represents the access and use of the network by the
customers for various purposes, like value added services, basic connectivity/transport etc.
Control/Signaling Security Plane: This security plane represents activities that enable efficient
functioning of the network.
Management Security Plane: This plane represents the management of network elements, services and
applications.

How North Korea became a Cruel Country
How did North Korea become the cruel country that scorches both surrounding and distant nations
with its sternly severe socialist flame? Subjugated by Japan in 1910, North Korea was mercilessly
enslaved for thirty five years. Due to Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the United States
occupied the southern region of the Korean Peninsula while Soviet troops seized the north. As a result
communism spread like weeds. Sadly, North Korea s government, military, and economy were all by
shaped by the leftist views suppressed on them. The root of the problem was Kim Il Sung, the first
premier of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. At the urging of the United States, the United
Nations General Assembly established elections, introduced a constitution, and formed the Republic
of Korea in South Korea. The North Korean government evenly divides the tasks of leadership among
numerous officials as this obligation requires careful attention. In accordance with their constitution,
the head of government is the premier; Choe Yong rim presently occupies this position. Specifically
aiding the premier, three vice premiers and the cabinet, which is comprised of twenty eight ministers,
are next in power. The uppermost lawmaking body, the Supreme People s Assembly, elects the
majority of cabinet members. The minister of the People s Armed Forces is the sole exception. He
recurrently reports to Kim Jong eun. The Korean Worker s Party is where the SPA s authority is

Lessons from a Third World Perspective on Environmentalism
Possibly more than any of the other articles we have read so far,
Ramachandra Guha s article Radical Environmentalism and Wilderness
Preservation: A Third World Critique made me think. In analyzing the
Western deep ecology movement, he criticized its focus on preservation of
wild areas. By doing this, he was directly criticizing what I have long
thought of as my main goal as an environmentalist. One of the first
things that turned me on to environmental issues when I was younger was my
horror at the soaring rate of rainforest destruction so dramatically
portrayed to us in 9th grade biology class. Since then, by following a
biology track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But reading the article, I was struck by
what we can learn from each other and from where we overlap.
Guha s article critiqued the four main tenants of deep ecology
(which are, as he sees them,: a shift from anthropocentric to biocentric
ethics, a focus on preservation of wilderness, an invocation of Eastern
spiritual traditions, and a perception of being the vanguard of current
environmentalism) in order to show that, as is, deep ecology would only
meet its goals at the expense of the Third World. He gave the example of
Project Tiger in India, in which Western preservationists organizations
encouraged the designation of a network of parks to preserve the tiger s
habitat but only by moving whole villages of people and prohibiting them
from using the land (272). Of course, this type of conflict between
protecting the habitat of an endangered species and letting the land be
used by locals does not only occur in Third World contexts it is a common
debate, including of course the famous Spotted Owl example within our own
country.
Although it seems clear that a conflict between anthropocentric and
biocentric world views is at work here, Guha claims that the dichotomy is
useless (271). I have also seen it as somewhat problematic, even from my
own biological

Essay on Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
III. Character Description
1. John the Savage
Thomas and Linda s son, John, is a scholar and resident of the savage reservation in New Mexico.
Despite not being introduced until Chapter 7, John is seen as the centralizing character of the novel.
Unlike the rest of his community, he is educated. When Lenina and Bernard come across John during
their trip, they soon realize John s biological father is the Director, Thomas. Once reaffirming this,
Bernard and Lenina offer to bring John and Linda back to the World State. Hoping to connect better to
the people in the World State, John gladly accepts. It was, however, to John s misfortune to find out
that either way, there was no escaping his isolation. In one scene, where John takes Lenina home, ...

Which in turn increased his sense of being alien and alone. A chronic fear of being slighted made him
avoid his equals, made him stand, where his inferiors were concerned, self consciously on his dignity.
How bitterly he envied men like Henry Foster and Benito Hoover! (65). It isn t until Bernard gives
John residence in his house, that he starts attracting the attention of everyone. Soon after, Bernard
personality becomes overbearing and Mustapha Mond, the ruler of the World State, exiles him for non
conformity. Throughout the novel, Bernard struggles to fit in as a normal Alpha despite his stature.
Bernard s strengths are his curiosity and intelligence, but his downfalls are his instable mind and short
temper.
3. Lenina
A young, beautiful and sexually liberated Beta, Lenina is a popular and promiscuous vaccination
worker at the Hatchery and Conditioning Centre. Unlike many of the underlining characters of Brave
New World, Lenina doesn t feel socially out of place. She, like the rest of society, copes with
unwanted emotions by taking Soma, participates in parties, and polygamy. One example of this in the
novel, occurs while Lenina converses with her friend, Fanny; And to tell the truth, said Lenina, I m

Bachelor In Paradise Analysis
It is almost time for Bachelor in Paradise and spoilers are already coming out like crazy. Grant Kemp

Hollywood Life shared that ABC actually spoiled that Grant proposes at the end of the show. In the
preview video, you can see the tattoo of a guy that is down on one knee. It turns out that this guy is
Grant Kemp based on the tattoo on his arm. ABC probably wasn t thinking about that when they
posted this preview. Of course, the fans notice things like that right away. Mike Fleiss already shared
that more than one proposal happens this season, but he didn t say that Grant Kemp was one of them.

The Life of Paul Mccartney

McCartney. 2. Paul was born June 18, 1982 in the Anfield section of Liverpool, England; where his
family has been for generations. 3. Paul McCartney is a world famous singer songwriter and musician,
most famous as a member of the iconic pop rock band The Beatles along with John Lennon, George
Harrison and Ringo Starr. After The Beatles, he formed, and was the frontman for, the band Wings. 4.

going to jail for ten day s in Japan and The Beatles tour of Japan being cancelled. There was also a
time when police found strange plants growing at Paul s farm in Scotland the Mull of Kintyre. Paul
was also a frequent user of LSD and although not as much as his counterpart, John Lennon, Paul also
experimented with cocaine and heroin. If I were in Paul s shoes it would ve been very hard to stay
away from the drugs because they were all around him and being a rock star gave him easy access to
all of the drugs he wanted. I would have tried my best to stay away from all of the drugs, and even if I
did happen to use a bit now or then, I would use much less than Paul did. Also, Paul made his
affection for drugs, especially marijuana and LSD, very public. I would ve kept that more to myself to
keep a better public image. 11. Paul s life has had an impact on millions of people around the world
for many, many years. From the thousands of girls screaming his name and passing out at the sight of
him, to the countless people he continues to inspire with his great musical abilities and success.
Through Paul s success he has become a very influential person and he can easily impact people. The
impact Paul has had on people is a very positive one. He, along with the three other Beatles

The Sin Of Intellect Vs. The Sin Of Passion
The Sin of Intellect vs. The Sin of Passion Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote, The Scarlet Letter, an
American novel that follows the events of a young woman, Hester Prynne, who is living in 1640 s
Boston, Massachusetts. Because she committed adultery she is punished by the puritanical town she
resides in by wearing a scarlet letter A on her chest forever. Throughout the novel, Hester s husband,
Roger Chillingworth, strives to discover the identity of the father who is the beloved minister, Arthur
Dimmesdale. Chillingworth s mission for discovery and revenge causes him to commit the sin of
intellect which affects the people surrounding him. Hester is constantly emotionally distressed from
Chillingworth s sin, but is rewarded from her sin of passion. The physical and mental state of
Dimmsdale is ruined by the sin of intelligence, but also partially by the sin of passion. Not
intentionally, Chillingworth s sin of intellect affects him the most by changing him morally,
physically, and mentally. The effects that the sin of intellect causes are far worse in contrast to the sin
of passion. Major changes in Hester s emotional state, Dimmesdale s severe health reduction, and
Chillingworth s drastic shift in character are reasons why the sin of intellect overpowers sin of passion
in the severity of the sin. To begin, Chillingworth s sin of passion is constantly emotionally stressing
for Hester, but the sin of passion leads to her ultimate happiness. The greatest result of the sin of

My Experience Of Homecoming
Homecoming The first time I went back home after coming to college was a rollercoaster of emotions.
After arriving home I was embraced with open arms by my mom and dad. This was the first time I had
seen them since being dropped off at college and I suddenly realized how much I missed them. I
called every so often but being in my own home being able to talk and with them was something I
hadn t ever experienced. All of my worries about homework and future exams were gone and I got to
enjoy the company of my parents. At the beginning of college I constantly felt like I couldn t be
myself. Coming home these feelings vanished because I was surrounded by those who loved me. After
spending a few hours catching up, I went to reconnect with my high school friends. Seeing them I was
flooded with nostalgia because these were the guys I had spent my life getting to know. We sat around
a campfire and talked all about our college experiences each with a different story. It felt surreal
because even in this short time I could tell everyone had changed. We all were more mature and in the
little time we had grown slightly apart. This was hard to admit but we all could tell. Throughout the
campfire we shared stories and laughed at our experiences during our first few months of college.
Being back with friends was different because every so often we would text or snapchat our friends
from college. You could tell we all appreciated being back but we had made a new home at our
colleges.

Privacy And Privacy Of National Security
Importance of Privacy and Acceptance of National Security The definition of the word privacy,
according to Dictionary.com is, The state of being apart from other people or concealed from their
view . The right to feel safe and secure is one that citizens are privileged to have. Although the
Government s use of spying techniques is an invasion of privacy some would argue that the positive
effects far outweigh the negative. The ability to increase security, prevent attacks, and provide safety
to citizens are just some of the positive effects of Government surveillance. Freedom of privacy comes
with being an American, but some citizens are not ready to give up that basic right for added
protection (Mullikin and Rahman). There has to be a balance of privacy for some and security for
others. There are many tools used by the Government to keep its citizens safe. One of the more talked
about and effective tools is wiretapping. The ultimate goal in wiretapping is to collect data on a
specific individual, usually someone that is a high risk suspect. A wiretap can be manually or digitally
placed, then the necessary data can be gathered. Although wiretapping has been around since the 1890
s it really gathered relevance in 2001 with the Bush administration (Mullikin and Rahman). On
September 11, 2001 there was a devastating terrorist attack against The United States, where 2,977
people lost their lives. As a result of this horrible terrorist attack the Government had to put more

Essay on Racism
Discrimination Racism
Racism, the belief that one race possesses inherent traits that make that particular race superior, or
racial prejudice. Discrimination has always been an issue globally, and within our nation. While it was
more commonly accepted and practiced decades ago, it is still quite prominent in the hearts of many
people worldwide and is demonstrated through their behavior. It was common practice to keep slaves,
or people who submit entirely to another s will, for work, and other duties. Slaveholding was allowed
in the United States until 1865, when Amendment XIII was ratified. The date June 19th, 1865 is when
the last slaves were said to be freed. Human Rights are basic fundamental rights, ... Show more

Regardless of any actions, any laws, written, spoken, or left unsaid, a mark has been made in the
minds of all people, whether their ancestors were enslaved, or slave owners, rich, poor, racist, or civil
rights activist, as a result of what has taken place in the past. People still consciously and
unconsciously are racist, make race related comments, and stereotype based on nationality, religion,
skin color, sexual affiliation, and gender, this is generally not a good thing. As all people are entitled to
their own ideas or opinions, that being a civil right, I cannot say that racism is wrong entirely, but
when people are being discriminated against, harassed, or having their rights violated, that is wrong. If
someone feels the need to be racist, that s fine, just keep those ideas in your head, or go ahead and use
your right to peaceably assemble, wear swastikas, white robes and pointed caps, and talk about how
much you don t like that other guy. Usually everything a person might like or dislike, about someone
or something, is connected or related somehow to something they like or dislike about themselves.
Maybe the KKK hates blacks because they are afraid of the strength or some African Americans, for
fear they will be more efficient at a job, and thereby take away their chance as a weaker white person
to get it. Sometimes fears are irrational, and I think racism is a good example of an ignorant, or

Gary Soto
Gary Soto was an amazing poet. He was quite famous and had many achievements throughout his
current life. His poems are easy to understand and literal. The poems are usually about events that
have happened to him. Soto is definitely a great poet whose style of writing is unique.
Gary Soto was born on April 12, 1952. He was raised in Fresno, California. Married to Carolyn Oda,
he s now 63 years old. Gary had a tough childhood. His father died when he was five years old. Soto
received very little motivation from his family. As a result of this, he did poorly in school. But, during
high school he found an interest in poetry. Soto received the 1993 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Film
Excellence when he produced the film The Pool Party . He also attended Fresno City College, and
California State University. There, he earned his B.A degree in English. At the University of
California, Irvine, Soto did graduate work in poetry. He was also the first Mexican American to earn

Bernard Madoff Financial Scandal Controversy
Bernard Madoff Financial Scandal
I would first like to begin this paper by saying why I decide to chose this topic out of the 3 choices. I
believe that all of the choices were credible and a viable topic in their own regards, but the reason this
one hit home for me was because of the simplicity of the scandal. It s hard to believe that someone
could have made off with the amount of money Bernard did when the idea of a Ponzi scheme was
notable as early as the 19th century, and was named after Charles Ponzi in 1920 after his scandal
created enough issues to make it more aware to the public of what was happening. The fact that this
happened almost 100 years later at the level that it did and where it happened made me extremely
concerned and interested in the topic. In this paper I will cover the details happening up to the scandal,
the scandal itself, the people involved in the scandal, the legislation and regulations implemented after
the scandal, and my views on the outcome of the scandal.
Bernard Madoff was born April 29th, 1928 in Queens, New York. He grew up as a son of two Jewish
parents, one of which was a stockbroker. He graduated from Hofstra University in 1960 with a degree
in Political Science and then moved on to attend Brooklyn Law School where he dropped out to start
and pursue his own company, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.

Archetypal Characters and Symbols in The Phantom of the Opera
The story of The Phantom of the Opera appeals to many types of personalities and people of all ages
because of its archetypal characters and patterns. Carl Jung theorized that we are born with innate
tendencies to perceive things a certain way: a kind of readiness to reproduce over and over again the
same or similar mythical ideas . . . 1. These repeated ideas are archetypes. The basic legend of The
Phantom takes place in 19th century Paris, and is that of a young and talented, but untrained singer
named Christine. Erik, the Phantom, is a disfigured genius of many fields, including music,
architecture, magic, and science. His fatal flaw stems from his ... Show more content on

The children s version, meant for 8 to 12 year olds, is the most like the original 1920s Gaston Leroux
version. One of the few things that is changed, other than the overall abbreviation of the novel, is
simplification of the language. For example, Erik begins describing himself by saying, I was ugly.
Worse than ugly 3. This straightforward, childlike language puts the novel at the preteen reading level
while preserving Erik s crucial description. The Phantom of the Opera is the most popular book in
Random House Publishing s youth Bullseye Chiller series, above other tales of vampires, werewolves,
mummies, and witches4. Even children can identify with the love triangle among the three main
characters Erik, Christine and Raoul. They probably still pity his unrequited love for Christine, and the
way in which he was mistreated. Night Magic, another adaptation, is much lighter reading and aimed
at a different audience than the more literary variations. Night Magic is the modern day romance
version of Phantom, spanning two decades. Erik becomes a reclusive scarred contractor, and Christine
is now Marisa, a spoiled and orphaned teenager with a beautiful voice. The traditional Erik kills
without a thought when he feels threatened, while Erik s most raging moment in Night Magic consists
of him throwing a stool across the room when a client has been flirtatious with Marisa5. This
adaptation is lacking the dangerous side of Erik, so as not to scare

Emmett Till Essay Thesis
On August 28th, 1955 in Money, Mississippi 14 year old Emmett Till was murdered by two white
men, Roy Bryant and his brother in law J.W. Milam. Emmett was murdered for allegedly flirting with

old Emmett Till was visiting family in Mississippi. He was with his friends and cousin and was telling
them that he has a white girlfriend back at home. His friends did not believe him and dared him to go
into the store they were all by and go up to a white woman woman behind a counter and ask her to go
on a date with him. He was heard by his friends saying bye baby while walking out the store.
According to history.com It states that Emmett bragged that his girlfriend back at home was white.
Emmett s African American companions, disbelieving him, dared Emmett to ask the white woman
sitting behind the counter for a date. He went in. Bought some candy, and on the way out was heard

Bone Gap By Laura Ruby Character Analysis
Small towns usually consist of people that know about everyone else s business but their own. In the
fiction novel Bone Gap by Laura Ruby, Ruby introduces the reader to the main character, Finn O
Sullivan, who everyone believes is a weird and peculiar child. Finn lives with his brother Sean and
friend Roza in a small town called Bone Gap. One day Roza goes missing and given the fact that the
O Sullivan boys mother left them for her lover, the people of Bone Gap do not find the disappearance
a surprise. Except Finn knows the truth about her disappearance. However, no one in the town, not
even his brother, believes Finn s story. The mystery unfolds as Ruby uses the different characters point

Potential Dialogue Between Civilizations And The Clash Of...
I. Introduction
As being stated by Samuel P. Huntington, the Clash of Civilization is a hypothesis in which the
primary sources of conflicts in the post cold war era are more dominant to the people s cultural and
religious identities. Civilization has three attributes which are the objective elements language, history
religion, customs, and institution; the subjective elements variable levels of self identification; and
civilization itself is dynamic they rise and fall, divide and merge. Dialogue between civilizations are
also needed and will give significant impacts for not only both civilizations but also for the world.
This paper would like to discuss and analyze two cases about the possibility of Post American World
Order towards the potential Dialogue between Civilizations or the Clash of Civilizations theory; and
the contribution of Dialogue between Civilizations towards the management of negative impact in this
globalization era.

Wholesale Funding, Bank Runs and Liquidity Freezes In the 2007/8 Financial Crisis
Introduction
Banks make loans which are not quickly sold at high price. The demand deposits by Banks issue allow
their depositors to make withdraws at their convenience. Therefore a liquidity mismatch exists
between a bank s liabilities which are more liquid compared to the bank s assets. It leads to a problem
in case a large number of depositors decide to withdraw at the same time. Such a situation is called a
bank run. To prevent bank runs there are policies by the banks to stop runs, while the government
provides deposit insurance for prevention of bank runs. The canonical model of depositor runs by
Diamond and Dybvig (1983) provides an explanation as to why banks issue deposits which have
greater liquidity than the bank s assets and also explain why banks are prone to depositor runs
(Diamond, Dybvig, 1983). This model focuses on bank runs along other financial crises and the
mechanisms to prevent such financial crises. This paper discusses how traditional bank runs is
different from runs in the 2008 financial crisis and the innovation of wholesale funding.

Overpopulation is Not the Problem
As we sailed into the new millennium, humans crossed a threshold never before witnessed in our
species. We flew past the 6 billion mark in number. This is an impressive figure, but not one that we
can easily appreciate, unless we are Bill Gates or ExxonMobil.
Let s try to understand how incredibly large this number is. Consider that this article has ~9000 letters.
Thus, it would take more than 650,000 copies of it to produce enough letters to represent all humans.
Or, put in other terms, consider that if all the humans were to hold hands side by side, our species
would circumscribe the equator nearly 14 times! And perhaps, most horrifying, if we all were to move

Massive starvation, as observed in Ethiopia in 1973 and Bangladesh in 1974, didn t occur because
food wasn t available. These famines, and many others, occurred because large numbers of the
population didn t have sufficient funds to purchase foods, even though food was available hence a
question of distribution not limitation. Current world debts have now reached proportions that
developing countries now spend $13 on debt repayment for every $1 it receives in grants (Global

While some countries, including the United States, store away surplus grain production as a security
blanket, many human beings don t get enough to eat on a regular basis. In many developing countries,
given its rewarding economic payoffs, large landowners harvest export crops (such as coffee and
tobacco) rather than food crops for local people. Also, and possibly most damning to the reading
audience, a diet rich in meat requires nearly ten times the land than that of a strict vegetarian s diet.
Nearly 40 percent of U.S. land is used for grazing livestock (which accounts for about two thirds of
agricultural land). While some of this land is more fit for free range grazing than vegetable crops,
much of it would be many times more productive if grains were grown rather than quot;meats. quot;

Fat Girl Analysis
Cléo places her desires to look like the ideal woman over her physical health for only the first part of
the film. Cléo aligns in the first half of the film with Beauvoir s claims that the average Western male
s ideal is a woman who freely submits to his domination (Beauvoir 201). Similarly, in Fat Girl, Elena
represents another type of ideal woman that men seek, which is one that will give herself to man,
therefore relinquishing a part of her and her control. Elena like Cléo in the first part of the film has
virtually no control. Elena cannot control what happens after giving her virginity to Fernando because
she had already given herself to him, having succumbed to the fantasy. Fernando had played Elena
and she could not control their relationship or lack thereof. Cléo also accepts the fantasy to a degree
when she believes what the Tarot card reader tells her about her fate, which is that she is destined to
die from what was making her sick (Cléo From 5 to 7). Cléo s impending death affects her
significantly, but because it threatens her looks. Cléo begins to shift her ideology about halfway
through the film. For the second half of the film Cléo perceptions align much more with Anaïs. Cléo
begins to accept her potential fate and begins to not worry about aligning with societal expectations
any further. Therefore, Cléo takes control over her situation, choosing to take off her wig and hide her
face with glasses, no longer representing society s expectations of beauty.

Ojibway Indian men usually wore breechcloths and leggings. The women wore dresses and kept their

Customarily, they wore leather headbands with feathers in the back. The Ojibway Indians made
pictures, belts, purses, and other objects out of beads. They loved to use wampum beads in their

beadart by sewing the beads onto leather so they can be placed individually or sewn into strips. They
make the strips by stitching the beads into a string. This is usually done by hand or sometimes with a

Ojibway also made dream catchers out of sticks and feathers. They believed that the dream catchers

Reasons for Project Failure
Reasons for Project Failure There are many causes of project failure and every failed project will have
its own set of issues. Sometimes it is a single trigger event that leads to failure, but more often than
not, it is a complex entwined set of problems that combine and cumulatively result in failure. In case
of Avon, though implementation of SMT model was a the next logic step which would give a
tremendous boost to its direct marketing structure, there were some pretty drastic errors made which
led to catastrophic failure of the project. The prime causes of failure in case of Avon were: Lack of
coordination between the model development group and the end users who will actually be using the
model to place orders. The model had an excellent back end system to integrate with warehouse.
During the testing it responded correctly showing correct inventory numbers. However, the user
interface was not paid much attention to. It selected and implemented a third party e commerce
solution for that purpose. Also, the UI was extremely non user friendly. It took a long time to place an
order and at times even gave faulty inventory numbers. It s more evidence of an emerging trend that
corporate workers are increasingly demanding the business apps they use be as intuitive and user
friendly as the consumer apps they rely upon in their personal life. This trend, which ties into the
consumerization of IT, challenges traditional enterprise software giants such as SAP, Oracle and

The Golden Booklet Of The True Christian Life
God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, therefore a predetermined path of righteousness or
condemnation is contradictory to the core values of Christianity, as it eliminates the need for the will
to be saved by Christ. This shows that God does not control our actions, in hopes that we live in
accordance to him.
In The Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life, author John Calvin explains that our actions do
affect our relationship with God. He says, It is God s own glory that he cannot have anything to do
with iniquity and uncleanness, (Calvin, 17). God would not be able to be with us if we lived a
complete life of inconsideration to him that would be an uncleanly life. A Christian is called to be as
much like Jesus as they possibly can. Jesus never made compromises, he didn t ever say I am the son
of God so I can live how I want. For it is unlawful for you to make a compromise with God: to try to
fulfill part of your duties and to omit others at your own pleasure, (Calvin, 22). If Jesus had made
compromises he would probably not have dies for the sins of human kind. ... Show more content on

test ones faith but the person themselves is in control of their fate and what will come from the
challenge that lies ahead. Calvin states, The Lord has still another reason for afflicting his children: to
try their patience and to teach them obedience, (Calvin, 52). God would not try a persons patience or
teach them obedience if God knew exactly what would happen, because it is in those trials that he

a. Standardized test (3 points). A standardized test is an exam given to a student using formal language
in a predetermined and standard manner. These tests are given in a specific way, and given the same
way each time, for each student taking the test, all under the exact same conditions. There are two
types of standardized tests, aptitude tests which a predictive test like the SAT, which is used to predict
how well a student, may perform in a college setting; and achievement tests, which are what school
districts use to evaluate the overall performance of a school.
b. Criterion referenced test (3 points) A criterion referenced test is different than a norm referenced

them to create their own meaningful content, rather than simple worksheets or exams. I think it

Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass, was a night of organized violent assault on the
Jews on November 9, 1938. Although it appeared to be a spontaneous response to a Jewish teenager s
assassination of a German ambassador in Paris, this event was, in fact, a thoroughly organized attack
on the Jews. As the name of the incident suggests, two day long violent outbreak was detrimental. Not
only were Sturmabteilung set loose to ransacking Jewish stores and homes, civilians also participated
in the series of attacks against the Jews. Over 250 synagogues were targeted; they were destructed,
burned, and vandalized. Moreover, over 7,000 businesses were shattered. Plundered Jewish owned
properties were often redistributed to German citizens. During this massive coordinated attack,
approximately 100 Jews were killed, and approximately 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration
camps, such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. Although brutally treated, the prisoners
were released if they could prove that they were able to emigrate. However, an estimate of 1,000 Jews
ended up dying. After Kristallnacht, Jews clearly became social outcasts; they were aggressively
dissimilated from the society, marginalized from economic interactions, and persecuted from political
activities. Anti Semitism rose

The Four Objects In Ancient Egyptian Religion
The four objects I have picked set a tone on what Ancient Egyptian religion was like. Ancient
Egyptian religion was not based on a set of theological Ideals, but they were more connected to nature
and the elements or even animals. As you can see I have chosen four different animals and all are
associated with Egyptian religion. Each of these animals plays a very important role in Ancient
Egyptian lifestyle and how they could all be connected.
The first object I picked was the Head of a calcite figure of a cow . This is supposed to represent the
animal manifestation of the goddess of the west, Hathor. The Head of a calcite figure of a cow is
coloured white because it represents omnipotence and purity. Hathor was well known as the goddess
of fertility and the reason for this is that he is the protectress of pregnant women and midwives. She
was the patron of all women and it did not matter what stages they were in their lives.

A Brief Note On The Civil Service System
Civil service systems are designed to hire and promote members of the bureaucracy on the basis of
merit. The merit principle is the idea that hiring should be based on entrance exams and promotion
ratings to reward qualified individuals to produce an administration of skilled and talented people. All
civil servant applicants must pass an exam that measures skills related to the particular civil service
position they hope to fill. Some civil service exams are general and apply to a wide range of jobs,
whereas others are focused on a particular type of job. I do not see how a merit exam can truly show
how successful a potential civil servant would be performing in a particular position. An exam may be
able to measure the extent of their paper knowledge on the position, but does not reflect how well a
civil servant would be able to apply their knowledge to their job. Standardized tests are often frowned
upon in public schools, with some politicians and scholars arguing that standardized tests measure
how well a student can take the test, and does not measure how much he or she has learned. The same
applies to these merit exams. I do not believe that a potential bureaucrat should earn their government
position through entrance exams. The exam does not measure how successful a bureaucrat would be at
performing their job, but rather measures their test taking abilities. I believe that a potential bureaucrat
should have to partake in a two year long paid internship in their

Tsar Autocracy In Russia
In the course of Russian History, there is a long running debate over whether Russia tends towards
autocracy or if it is merely the illusion of autocracy. In its place, some have proposed that an oligarchy
ruled by consensus. The relationship between the Tsar and the Boyars is the subject of much debate
and varied based on the time in history and the personality of the Tsar. However, in general, the trend
is towards autocracy. There are a few reasons for this. The first is that the importance of the Boyars is
often overstated in relation to the political power of the Tsar. The second is that the policies, as much
in fact as in law, are by and large determined by the Tsar. The final reason for the trend towards
autocracy, is the all encompassing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Orthodox theology, there could be no Christian church without a secular power to
protect it and enforce its teachings; there had to be a Third Rome with its own emperor. After
Constantinople was conquered in 1453, Russia remained the only rightful claimant of the title of Third
Rome . In the culture of Russia at the time the best way to build a reputation was to be a pious
Orthodox man. The Tsar was not only deeply entwined with the practice and leadership of the
Orthodox Church in Russia; he also embodied its social and political influence. The Tsar was able to
claim that his right to rule was divine because the church was both influential and in favor of a strong
ruler who professed the Orthodox Faith. While there were many different religions present in Russia,
it was truly the Orthodox Church that was the most influential and widely accepted in elite circles.
What does this mean in regard to the relationship between the Tsar and the Boyars? The Tsar was able
to justify his decisions on a religious basis, which was acceptable to most Russians, without having to
have the consensus of the Boyars. Again, while the Boyars put forth their advice or dissent, the Tsar
exercised relatively unrestrained power as an executive and as a legislator in Russia. Byzantine dogma
represented politics as the responsibility of the rulers and this facilitated the

Allelic Variation in BRCA Genes Could Be the Key to Understanding Familial Breast Cancer
Introduction
Breast cancer is an uncontrollable division of cells within the breast tissue that affects about 12% of
women in their lifetime. Cancer can be caused by sporadic mutations influenced by environment or by
genetic disposition. Several genes play a role in cell division: Oncogenes are responsible for directing
mitosis, and tumor suppression genes prevent the expression of genes involved in cell division.
Mutations that occur in either gene can lead to carcinogenic tumor growth and immortal cell lines.
BRCA1 and BRCA2 are tumor suppression genes known as caretakers that are responsible for
maintaining the cell genome during cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A quantitative allelic imbalance assay was developed to determine differences in gene expression from
individual BRCA1/2 alleles. Allele specific assays quantify gene expression specific to the allele
being tested. For the BRCA1 gene, two individuals homozygous for the BRCA1 c.4308T/T or
BRCA1 c.4308C/C polymorphism were tested. Complementary DNA (cDNA) was created from
reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) using RNAs extracted from blood
lymphocytes. RT PCR uses reverse transcriptase to form an RNA/cDNA heteroduplex that is then
amplified by normal polymerase chain reaction techniques to produce a large quantity of cDNA.
Ratios of the cDNA from the two alleles were mixed for use in real time PCR (qPCR). qPCR uses
fluorescent probes that anneal to the cDNA during PCR. These probes contain a reporter and a
quencher; the reporter fluoresces when separated from the quencher, allowing a computer to measure
the number of cycles needed for the fluorescence to exceed background levels (cycle threshold or CT).
Using the ratios of cDNAs and ∆CT, a linear regression was computed to form an allelic expression
standard curve that can be used to evaluate allelic imbalance. These same methods were repeated with
BRCA2 with two individuals homozygous for the BRCA2 c.3396A/A or BRCA2 c.3396G/G allele.
The allelic imbalance assay developed was now used with specific single nucleotide polymorphisms

Non Genotoxic Carcinogens
Continuous exposure to an increasing number of certain natural and man made chemicals is a major
risk factor for cancer. Therefore, evaluating the carcinogenic risk of chemicals remains important.
Currently, substantial progress has been made in identification of genotoxic carcinogens. In contrast,
predicting a carcinogenic potential of non genotoxic compounds is a challenge due to many different
modes of action that may lead to tumorigenesis; however, accumulating evidence suggests that some
of the earliest events of tumorigenesis involve perturbations of the cellular epigenome. In the present
study, we investigated the effect of the non genotoxic liver carcinogen methapyrilene, the genotoxic

kidneys. The methapyrilene induced hepatic histone modifications were accompanied by a reduced
expression of chromatin modifying genes responsible for the modifications, including histone
methyltransferases Suv4 20h2 and Kmt2a, histone demethylase Kdm5b, and histone
acethyltransferase Ep300. The results indicate that organ specific carcinogen induced histone
modifications changes may have significance in the carcinogenic process and in carcinogen hazard

The Classic Inferno By Dante Alighieri
The classic Inferno by Dante Alighieri is beautifully woven to reflect the realities or unrealities of the
time. The various circles of hell are used by the writer to tell the tale in a free flowing manner (Havely,
98). Interesting, however, is the manner in which he describes the characters such that they are seen to
be facing tragedies in their life in hell. The writer categorizes the different types of sins that people
can commit and subjects the characters to various punishments, each of which is in a separate circle in
hell. Lawall opines that the writer uses a style that makes the reader envision themselves in the poem
(Lawall, 17). In so doing, the writer subjects the characters to relatively tragic states even though they

The story narrates that Francesca and Paolo are both punished in hell for their adultery and thus the
subjection to the circle of lust (Alighieri, 1012). She expounds that she had been married to Paolo s
brother Gianciotto. Francesca discloses that she was not shy of expressing her feelings towards Paolo,
who she loved even though she was married to his brother. One day, she reveals, her husband caught
them together inside her bedroom and was sure that they were lovers. Francesca opened the door and
pretended that all was well before her husband. Unknown to Francesca, Paolo had got stuck in a
ladder as he attempted to run away. Gianciotto then killed the two of them, although he had not
intended to kill his wife. The circumstance that led to her death is an emphasis of the beauty of love.
When Gianciotto jumped to slay Paolo with his sword, Francesca rushed in between and faced the
death first. The husband was too disappointed and ended up killing Paolo as well. The portrayal of the
two characters as lovebirds and the lack of love between Francesca and her husband show the reality
that was then (Alighieri, 1013). The writer further says, through Francesca, that Gianciotto was
thrown into the circle of Caina for killing his family members. This assertion, in character is a
balanced move to portray both parties (Francesca and Gianciotto) as losers in the fight. However, the

Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift
WHO DIED AND NAMED YOU SUPERIOR
What are some of the characteristics that makes humans a distinct species? According to National
Geographic s article, Minds of Their Own , higher capability human like characteristics include, good
memory, a grasp of grammar and symbols, self awareness, understanding others motives, imitating
others, and being creative (Morell). Because humans possess all these skills we automatically assume
we are the dominant race. What if we knew animals possessed these skills as well? Would we still
think we are superior? The fact is that, animals share and express human like capabilities.
Authors like Jonathan Swift have used their works to shine a light on the similarities between humans
and animals. In Part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well surprise, animals have dialects too. According to the Huffington Post Science article, Human
Intelligence , killer whales share a complex language of their own and dolphins have individual names
just like [humans] based on whistle signals (Mosbergen). Similarly, Professor Con Slobodchikoff,
from Northern Arizona University, has been studying and recording the calls of the Gunnison s prairie
dog for three decades (Edwards). Based off of these recordings many other scientists have discovered
that the evolved complex language of the prairie dogs contain varying numbers of frequency
modulations, barks, squeals and squeaks, and each animal has unique tonal qualities (Edwards). Not
only have animals established different dialects, like humans, animals speak and understand extremely
complicated speaking patterns that humans have failed to notice on a daily basis.
Scientists recognize specific skills as key signs of high cognitive abilities: they include...self
awareness amongst many other variables (Gaertner). Self awareness is the pivot point upon which all
development depends (Craig). And without self awareness there is no way to anchor your journey, no
way to orient yourself, no way of knowing if you are losing or finding your way (Craig). Clearly being
self aware is extremely important to the development and livelihood of the human race. It s such an
important trait that all humans are taught to inherit it

Nielsen s Music 360 Study
In Nielsen s Music 360 study in 2014, 93% of the country s population listens to music with 75% of
respondents (saying) they actively chose to listen to music, even ahead of watching television at 73% .
The number of people that prefer to listen to music can be considered enormous and as the population
grows, so does that number. This only goes to show how music has become commonplace in our lives
such that most U.S. residents listen to roughly four hours and five minutes of audio each day (Stutz).
As the world changes and new innovations emerge however, so does how we, as consumers, enjoy
music. Over the years, there has been a gradual shift from physical copies of music such as CDs to
their digital counterparts. As shown in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We now have the ability to consume massive amounts of torrent or streams of music due to its
availability (Muller). People can simply go online and listen to their favorite artists for free with the
click of a mouse. For example, global online audio distribution platforms such as SoundCloud,
Pandora, and Spotify all boast a vastly enormous library of online music; furthermore, these platforms
allow their users to listen to any song for free and construct their own music playlists that is unique for
each user. Why bother buying a CD or an album when you can listen to the songs you want to at any
time on your phone or your laptop? The effects of this inherent convenience can also be seen by
looking at statistics from YouTube, a popular website for sharing videos. By using YouTube, from
casual hobbyists to aspiring artists to celebrities, anyone can upload a video of their own and likewise
anyone can watch any video (granted they are 18+ years old for certain videos). And in this huge
amalgamation of diverse videos, there lies a sizeable number of videos that revolve around music.
According to YouTube, it has over a billion users almost one third of all people on the Internet , a
clearly defining statement that supports the idea that the convenience of YouTube has drawn a plethora
of people. Even more so is the statistic from

Individual Project: Manager Interviews
Executive Summary/Introduction
As a process, management is a series of connected functions. Management does not take place in any
particular order; it is a continuous process in which managers adjust what they are doing if a situation
requires them to do so. The management process consists of the four functions, planning, organizing,
and controlling, performed in order to achieve business objectives. The management function of
planning is the practice of setting performance goals and identifying what actions should be used to
meet them. The function of organizing includes assembling duties, individuals, and other ... Show

She uses planning tools such as employee feedback, data analysis, and guidelines to help her
employees in accomplishing company goals. Katie spends less time planning at only 15 percent. She
spends a little bit of time each day planning what her employees can do to utilize their time in an
efficient way to complete any tasks needing to be completed. Katie uses schedules, meetings, reports,
and organizes transponder fulfilments. She considers herself a behavioral decision maker that uses
problem solving skills to come up with the solutions. When implementing a plan she likes to write the
idea down, confirm it with upper management, use trial and error, and then finalize it. At 35 percent,
Patrick spends the most time of the three managers planning. He is involved in activities such as
profits and losses, finances, the analyzation of trends, improving customer relations, and in figuring
out where to best invest the companies money. When creating or implementing plans, Patrick likes to
use tools such as reports, tables for time management, and excel for forecasting. He does not rely on
meetings as much because his company does not have a hierarchy of command; everyone is on a
similar level. Patrick considers himself a systematic thinker and problem solver (Schermerhorn, 2011,
p.89). When he implements a plan he will message his employees to let them know about it and any
information they need, he prefers receiving no suggestions of alternatives. All

  • 2. Evidence Based Management Process Planning is the process of setting goals and creating a plan for meeting those goals. The benefits of planning as seen by the research evidence is firstly, it provides a team with a direction for future actions. For example, in my team we did not have a direction on how to proceed thorough each stage, if it was better to move up or down, which made our team members losing interest. Furthermore, planning helps when there is a problem, because if we had a plan we can proactively address problems and their impact on the project or goal is reduced. For instance, a problem in our Everest simulation was when of our team members health was critical or if someone wanted to complete an individual goal, we spent a lot of time discussing on what to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, I will use Evidence based management in my future career, because managers who practice evidence based management make better management decisions and perform better. Furthermore, for a evidence based manager, there is always a learning phase, because everyday there is always new research done to help managers in their decisions making, which makes managers bring continuance value to an organisation. As, more managers start adopting evidence based management the gap between manager, scholars and educators become closer, which helps in building a community for information gathering and sharing. I would use the 6 principles used by Rosseau McCarthy (2007) as a guideline to manage a modern organisation. Firstly, I would manage an organisation using principles and theories of behaviour in and out of an organisation that is supported by the best available research. Secondly, mastering decision awareness which is knowing when an action or non action is a decision in itself, that if done properly can motivate employees and organisation performance. Furthermore, as a manager, I would only make decisions when I have the whole picture of the situation. Moreover, I will manage an organisation by adapting my knowledge and using effectively in different settings and circumstances. I will also use all important decision support, like financial performance to help make decision on how the organisation is doing. Finally, an important part of managing a organisation using evidence based management is to always update my knowledge in any new developments. Following these principles I will be a better ... In the concept map, they had two categories, the first one that helps a person move into a healthy transition is the facilitator factors in transition to dialysis, which include personal factors and social factors. The second category leads to an unhealthy transition and these are the inhibitor factors. The factors would include personal factors, social factors, and economic problems that arise. Another part of the conceptual map shows a turning circle that is a constant battle that people must fight to keep moving towards a healthy transition into dialysis. Another way the researchers analyzed the data from this study, was by reporting what the people said about their transition into dialysis. For many of these people, it was a terrible experience. People also shared how hard this life change was on them and their families. While others shared how they got through the transition positively, and how other dialysis patients can do the same. In the interviews, they discussed physical changes, mental changes, and social changes that all took place during this transition into dialysis. In conclusion, the authors see that now they have more ways to help someone new coming into hemodialysis after chronic kidney failure starts. • 8. How North Korea became a Cruel Country How did North Korea become the cruel country that scorches both surrounding and distant nations with its sternly severe socialist flame? Subjugated by Japan in 1910, North Korea was mercilessly enslaved for thirty five years. Due to Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the United States occupied the southern region of the Korean Peninsula while Soviet troops seized the north. As a result communism spread like weeds. Sadly, North Korea s government, military, and economy were all by shaped by the leftist views suppressed on them. The root of the problem was Kim Il Sung, the first premier of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. At the urging of the United States, the United Nations General Assembly established elections, introduced a constitution, and formed the Republic of Korea in South Korea. The North Korean government evenly divides the tasks of leadership among numerous officials as this obligation requires careful attention. In accordance with their constitution, the head of government is the premier; Choe Yong rim presently occupies this position. Specifically aiding the premier, three vice premiers and the cabinet, which is comprised of twenty eight ministers, are next in power. The uppermost lawmaking body, the Supreme People s Assembly, elects the majority of cabinet members. The minister of the People s Armed Forces is the sole exception. In analyzing the Western deep ecology movement, he criticized its focus on preservation of wild areas. By doing this, he was directly criticizing what I have long thought of as my main goal as an environmentalist. Since then, by following a biology track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But reading the article, I was struck by what we can learn from each other and from where we overlap. Guha s article critiqued the four main tenants of deep ecology (which are, as he sees them,: a shift from anthropocentric to biocentric ethics, a focus on preservation of wilderness, an invocation of Eastern spiritual traditions, and a perception of being the vanguard of current environmentalism) in order to show that, as is, deep ecology would only meet its goals at the expense of the Third World. He gave the example of Project Tiger in India, in which Western preservationists organizations

The Sin Of Passion The Sin of Intellect vs. The Sin of Passion Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote, The Scarlet Letter, an American novel that follows the events of a young woman, Hester Prynne, who is living in 1640 s Boston, Massachusetts. Because she committed adultery she is punished by the puritanical town she resides in by wearing a scarlet letter A on her chest forever. Throughout the novel, Hester s husband, Roger Chillingworth, strives to discover the identity of the father who is the beloved minister, Arthur Dimmesdale. Chillingworth s mission for discovery and revenge causes him to commit the sin of intellect which affects the people surrounding him. Hester is constantly emotionally distressed from Chillingworth s sin, but is rewarded from her sin of passion. The physical and mental state of Dimmsdale is ruined by the sin of intelligence, but also partially by the sin of passion. Not intentionally, Chillingworth s sin of intellect affects him the most by changing him morally, physically, and mentally. The effects that the sin of intellect causes are far worse in contrast to the sin of passion. Major changes in Hester s emotional state, Dimmesdale s severe health reduction, and Chillingworth s drastic shift in character are reasons why the sin of intellect overpowers sin of passion in the severity of the sin. I called every so often but being in my own home being able to talk and with them was something I hadn t ever experienced. All of my worries about homework and future exams were gone and I got to enjoy the company of my parents. At the beginning of college I constantly felt like I couldn t be myself. Coming home these feelings vanished because I was surrounded by those who loved me. After spending a few hours catching up, I went to reconnect with my high school friends. Seeing them I was flooded with nostalgia because these were the guys I had spent my life getting to know. We sat around a campfire and talked all about our college experiences each with a different story. It felt surreal because even in this short time I could tell everyone had changed. We all were more mature and in the little time we had grown slightly apart. This was hard to admit but we all could tell. Throughout the campfire we shared stories and laughed at our experiences during our first few months of college. • 16. Privacy And Privacy Of National Security Importance of Privacy and Acceptance of National Security The definition of the word privacy, according to Dictionary.com is, The state of being apart from other people or concealed from their view . The right to feel safe and secure is one that citizens are privileged to have. Although the Government s use of spying techniques is an invasion of privacy some would argue that the positive effects far outweigh the negative. The ability to increase security, prevent attacks, and provide safety to citizens are just some of the positive effects of Government surveillance. Freedom of privacy comes with being an American, but some citizens are not ready to give up that basic right for added protection (Mullikin and Rahman). There has to be a balance of privacy for some and security for others. There are many tools used by the Government to keep its citizens safe. One of the more talked about and effective tools is wiretapping. The ultimate goal in wiretapping is to collect data on a specific individual, usually someone that is a high risk suspect. A wiretap can be manually or digitally placed, then the necessary data can be gathered. Although wiretapping has been around since the 1890 s it really gathered relevance in 2001 with the Bush administration (Mullikin and Rahman). It was common practice to keep slaves, or people who submit entirely to another s will, for work, and other duties. Regardless of any actions, any laws, written, spoken, or left unsaid, a mark has been made in the minds of all people, whether their ancestors were enslaved, or slave owners, rich, poor, racist, or civil rights activist, as a result of what has taken place in the past. People still consciously and unconsciously are racist, make race related comments, and stereotype based on nationality, religion, skin color, sexual affiliation, and gender, this is generally not a good thing. As all people are entitled to their own ideas or opinions, that being a civil right, I cannot say that racism is wrong entirely, but when people are being discriminated against, harassed, or having their rights violated, that is wrong. If someone feels the need to be racist, that s fine, just keep those ideas in your head, or go ahead and use your right to peaceably assemble, wear swastikas, white robes and pointed caps, and talk about how much you don t like that other guy. • 19. Bernard Madoff Financial Scandal Controversy Bernard Madoff Financial Scandal I would first like to begin this paper by saying why I decide to chose this topic out of the 3 choices. I believe that all of the choices were credible and a viable topic in their own regards, but the reason this one hit home for me was because of the simplicity of the scandal. It s hard to believe that someone could have made off with the amount of money Bernard did when the idea of a Ponzi scheme was notable as early as the 19th century, and was named after Charles Ponzi in 1920 after his scandal created enough issues to make it more aware to the public of what was happening. The fact that this happened almost 100 years later at the level that it did and where it happened made me extremely concerned and interested in the topic. In this paper I will cover the details happening up to the scandal, the scandal itself, the people involved in the scandal, the legislation and regulations implemented after the scandal, and my views on the outcome of the scandal. Bernard Madoff was born April 29th, 1928 in Queens, New York. He grew up as a son of two Jewish parents, one of which was a stockbroker. He graduated from Hofstra University in 1960 with a degree in Political Science and then moved on to attend Brooklyn Law School where he dropped out to start and pursue his own company, Bernard L. Archetypal Characters and Symbols in The Phantom of the Opera The story of The Phantom of the Opera appeals to many types of personalities and people of all ages because of its archetypal characters and patterns. Carl Jung theorized that we are born with innate tendencies to perceive things a certain way: a kind of readiness to reproduce over and over again the same or similar mythical ideas . . . 1. These repeated ideas are archetypes. The basic legend of The Phantom takes place in 19th century Paris, and is that of a young and talented, but untrained singer named Christine. The children s version, meant for 8 to 12 year olds, is the most like the original 1920s Gaston Leroux version. One of the few things that is changed, other than the overall abbreviation of the novel, is simplification of the language. For example, Erik begins describing himself by saying, I was ugly. Worse than ugly 3. This straightforward, childlike language puts the novel at the preteen reading level while preserving Erik s crucial description. The Phantom of the Opera is the most popular book in Random House Publishing s youth Bullseye Chiller series, above other tales of vampires, werewolves, mummies, and witches4. Even children can identify with the love triangle among the three main characters Erik, Christine and Raoul. They probably still pity his unrequited love for Christine, and the way in which he was mistreated. Erik becomes a reclusive scarred contractor, and Christine is now Marisa, a spoiled and orphaned teenager with a beautiful voice. Huntington, the Clash of Civilization is a hypothesis in which the primary sources of conflicts in the post cold war era are more dominant to the people s cultural and religious identities. Civilization has three attributes which are the objective elements language, history religion, customs, and institution; the subjective elements variable levels of self identification; and civilization itself is dynamic they rise and fall, divide and merge. Dialogue between civilizations are also needed and will give significant impacts for not only both civilizations but also for the world. Wholesale Funding, Bank Runs And Liquidity Freezes Wholesale Funding, Bank Runs and Liquidity Freezes In the 2007/8 Financial Crisis Name Course Tutor University City/State Date Wholesale Funding, Bank Runs and Liquidity Freezes In the 2007/8 Financial Crisis Introduction Banks make loans which are not quickly sold at high price. The demand deposits by Banks issue allow their depositors to make withdraws at their convenience. Therefore a liquidity mismatch exists between a bank s liabilities which are more liquid compared to the bank s assets. It leads to a problem in case a large number of depositors decide to withdraw at the same time. Such a situation is called a bank run. To prevent bank runs there are policies by the banks to stop runs, while the government provides deposit insurance for prevention of bank runs. The canonical model of depositor runs by Diamond and Dybvig (1983) provides an explanation as to why banks issue deposits which have greater liquidity than the bank s assets and also explain why banks are prone to depositor runs (Diamond, Dybvig, 1983). This model focuses on bank runs along other financial crises and the mechanisms to prevent such financial crises. This paper discusses how traditional bank runs is different from runs in the 2008 financial crisis and the innovation of wholesale funding. Cléo aligns in the first half of the film with Beauvoir s claims that the average Western male s ideal is a woman who freely submits to his domination (Beauvoir 201). Similarly, in Fat Girl, Elena represents another type of ideal woman that men seek, which is one that will give herself to man, therefore relinquishing a part of her and her control. Elena like Cléo in the first part of the film has virtually no control. Elena cannot control what happens after giving her virginity to Fernando because she had already given herself to him, having succumbed to the fantasy. Fernando had played Elena and she could not control their relationship or lack thereof. Cléo also accepts the fantasy to a degree when she believes what the Tarot card reader tells her about her fate, which is that she is destined to die from what was making her sick (Cléo From 5 to 7). Cléo s impending death affects her significantly, but because it threatens her looks. Cléo begins to shift her ideology about halfway through the film. For the second half of the film Cléo perceptions align much more with Anaïs. Cléo begins to accept her potential fate and begins to not worry about aligning with societal expectations any further. Sometimes it is a single trigger event that leads to failure, but more often than not, it is a complex entwined set of problems that combine and cumulatively result in failure. In case of Avon, though implementation of SMT model was a the next logic step which would give a tremendous boost to its direct marketing structure, there were some pretty drastic errors made which led to catastrophic failure of the project. The prime causes of failure in case of Avon were: Lack of coordination between the model development group and the end users who will actually be using the model to place orders. The model had an excellent back end system to integrate with warehouse. During the testing it responded correctly showing correct inventory numbers. However, the user interface was not paid much attention to. It selected and implemented a third party e commerce solution for that purpose. Also, the UI was extremely non user friendly. It took a long time to place an order and at times even gave faulty inventory numbers. The Golden Booklet Of The True Christian Life God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, therefore a predetermined path of righteousness or condemnation is contradictory to the core values of Christianity, as it eliminates the need for the will to be saved by Christ. This shows that God does not control our actions, in hopes that we live in accordance to him. In The Golden Booklet of the True Christian Life, author John Calvin explains that our actions do affect our relationship with God. He says, It is God s own glory that he cannot have anything to do with iniquity and uncleanness, (Calvin, 17). God would not be able to be with us if we lived a complete life of inconsideration to him that would be an uncleanly life. A Christian is called to be as much like Jesus as they possibly can. Jesus never made compromises, he didn t ever say I am the son of God so I can live how I want. The merit principle is the idea that hiring should be based on entrance exams and promotion ratings to reward qualified individuals to produce an administration of skilled and talented people. All civil servant applicants must pass an exam that measures skills related to the particular civil service position they hope to fill. Some civil service exams are general and apply to a wide range of jobs, whereas others are focused on a particular type of job. I do not see how a merit exam can truly show how successful a potential civil servant would be performing in a particular position. An exam may be able to measure the extent of their paper knowledge on the position, but does not reflect how well a civil servant would be able to apply their knowledge to their job. Standardized tests are often frowned upon in public schools, with some politicians and scholars arguing that standardized tests measure how well a student can take the test, and does not measure how much he or she has learned. The same applies to these merit exams. I do not believe that a potential bureaucrat should earn their government position through entrance exams. Allelic Variation in BRCA Genes Could Be the Key to Understanding Familial Breast Cancer Introduction Breast cancer is an uncontrollable division of cells within the breast tissue that affects about 12% of women in their lifetime. Several genes play a role in cell division: Oncogenes are responsible for directing mitosis, and tumor suppression genes prevent the expression of genes involved in cell division. Mutations that occur in either gene can lead to carcinogenic tumor growth and immortal cell lines. A quantitative allelic imbalance assay was developed to determine differences in gene expression from individual BRCA1/2 alleles. Allele specific assays quantify gene expression specific to the allele being tested. For the BRCA1 gene, two individuals homozygous for the BRCA1 c.4308T/T or BRCA1 c.4308C/C polymorphism were tested. Complementary DNA (cDNA) was created from reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) using RNAs extracted from blood lymphocytes. RT PCR uses reverse transcriptase to form an RNA/cDNA heteroduplex that is then amplified by normal polymerase chain reaction techniques to produce a large quantity of cDNA. Ratios of the cDNA from the two alleles were mixed for use in real time PCR (qPCR). qPCR uses fluorescent probes that anneal to the cDNA during PCR. These probes contain a reporter and a quencher; the reporter fluoresces when separated from the quencher, allowing a computer to measure the number of cycles needed for the fluorescence to exceed background levels (cycle threshold or CT). Using the ratios of cDNAs and ∆CT, a linear regression was computed to form an allelic expression standard curve that can be used to evaluate allelic imbalance. These same methods were repeated with BRCA2 with two individuals homozygous for the BRCA2 c.3396A/A or BRCA2 c.3396G/G allele. The allelic imbalance assay developed was now used with specific single nucleotide polymorphisms in BRCA1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Treatment of F344 rats with methapyrilene caused a marked decrease in the trimethylation of histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me3) and H4 lysine 20 (H4K20me3), and acetylation of histone H3 lysine 9 (H3K9ac) and H3 lysine 56 (H3K56ac) in the livers. Exposure to usnic acid resulted in a minor reduction of H3K4me3 and H3K9ac only. No histone modification changes were found in the livers of rats treated with aristolochic acid. Also, none of the chemicals caused histone modifications in the kidneys. The methapyrilene induced hepatic histone modifications were accompanied by a reduced expression of chromatin modifying genes responsible for the modifications, including histone methyltransferases Suv4 20h2 and Kmt2a, histone demethylase Kdm5b, and histone acethyltransferase Ep300. The results indicate that organ specific carcinogen induced histone modifications changes may have significance in the carcinogenic process and in carcinogen hazard ... • 41. The Classic Inferno By Dante Alighieri The classic Inferno by Dante Alighieri is beautifully woven to reflect the realities or unrealities of the time. The various circles of hell are used by the writer to tell the tale in a free flowing manner (Havely, 98). Interesting, however, is the manner in which he describes the characters such that they are seen to be facing tragedies in their life in hell. The writer categorizes the different types of sins that people can commit and subjects the characters to various punishments, each of which is in a separate circle in hell. Lawall opines that the writer uses a style that makes the reader envision themselves in the poem (Lawall, 17). In so doing, the writer subjects the characters to relatively tragic states even though they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story narrates that Francesca and Paolo are both punished in hell for their adultery and thus the subjection to the circle of lust (Alighieri, 1012). She expounds that she had been married to Paolo s brother Gianciotto. Francesca discloses that she was not shy of expressing her feelings towards Paolo, who she loved even though she was married to his brother. One day, she reveals, her husband caught them together inside her bedroom and was sure that they were lovers. Francesca opened the door and pretended that all was well before her husband. Unknown to Francesca, Paolo had got stuck in a ladder as he attempted to run away. Gianciotto then killed the two of them, although he had not intended to kill his wife. The circumstance that led to her death is an emphasis of the beauty of love. When Gianciotto jumped to slay Paolo with his sword, Francesca rushed in between and faced the death first. The husband was too disappointed and ended up killing Paolo as well. The portrayal of the two characters as lovebirds and the lack of love between Francesca and her husband show the reality that was then (Alighieri, 1013). The writer further says, through Francesca, that Gianciotto was thrown into the circle of Caina for killing his family members. This assertion, in character is a balanced move to portray both parties (Francesca and Gianciotto) as losers in the fight. However, the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to National Geographic s article, Minds of Their Own , higher capability human like characteristics include, good memory, a grasp of grammar and symbols, self awareness, understanding others motives, imitating others, and being creative (Morell). Because humans possess all these skills we automatically assume we are the dominant race. What if we knew animals possessed these skills as well? Would we still think we are superior? The fact is that, animals share and express human like capabilities. Authors like Jonathan Swift have used their works to shine a light on the similarities between humans and animals. In Part ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well surprise, animals have dialects too. According to the Huffington Post Science article, Human Intelligence , killer whales share a complex language of their own and dolphins have individual names just like [humans] based on whistle signals (Mosbergen). Similarly, Professor Con Slobodchikoff, from Northern Arizona University, has been studying and recording the calls of the Gunnison s prairie dog for three decades (Edwards). Based off of these recordings many other scientists have discovered that the evolved complex language of the prairie dogs contain varying numbers of frequency modulations, barks, squeals and squeaks, and each animal has unique tonal qualities (Edwards). Not only have animals established different dialects, like humans, animals speak and understand extremely complicated speaking patterns that humans have failed to notice on a daily basis. Scientists recognize specific skills as key signs of high cognitive abilities: they include...self awareness amongst many other variables (Gaertner). Self awareness is the pivot point upon which all development depends (Craig). And without self awareness there is no way to anchor your journey, no way to orient yourself, no way of knowing if you are losing or finding your way (Craig). Clearly being self aware is extremely important to the development and livelihood of the human race. It s such an important trait that all humans are taught to inherit it ...
