Chemical Reactions
Chemistry
Chemical Reaction and the PH Scale Chemical reactions are the heart of chemistry. People have
always known that they exist. The Ancient Greeks were the firsts to speculate on the composition of
matter. They thought that it was possible that individual particles made up matter. As you might
imagine, it s useful to be able to measure the acidity of solutions. Scientists have come up with the pH
scale for determining the concentration of acid in a solution so we can distinguish between solutions
with varying acidity. A Chemical reaction is the outcome of two or more elements together results in
the formation of a chemical bond between atoms and compound. Chemicals react together due to ...

Internet Based Architecture And Its Impact On System...
1. The Internet has had an enormous impact on system architecture. (Rosenblatt, 2013, p.417). The
reward of selecting an Internet based architecture has the benefit of being able to assist the users with
daily business transactions in an environment that is online. The shift to Internet based collaboration
has been so powerful and compelling that it has been named Web 2.0. Web 2.0 envisions a second
generation of the Web that will enable people to collaborate, interact, and share information more
dynamically. (Rosenblatt, 2013, p.419). Also, with the Internet based architecture, the whole system is
on the web server, eliminating the need for a server/system. In an Internet based architecture, in

The information you want to tell to Gray is that by using a Web based marketing you can make the
advertising interactive, people would be able to access the site for all online transactions, and the
customer will be able to make comments to improve the overall business. The most important of that
point is the achievable expectation when we make the push for more internet marketing efforts, we
want to make attainable goals. The goals we set will show to Gray that Web marketing is the best way
for Personal Trainer to interact with their customers and have the ability to have our presence on the
internet. 3. For the point of sale transactions (POS), Personal Trainer will have hardware and software
requirements. For the hardware, a scanner will be needed to scan the item into the system. The scanner
should be able to either scan money amounts or barcodes that represent the item in the system. A
monitor would be required to see the items that are scanned and to verify the price of the item; if a
keyboard is not attached to the system, the monitor should also have a touchscreen. All these items
should be plugged into a system that will contain the software that should maintain the database for
inventory and sales. The software should be able to maintain a database that has all the items and
service that Personal Trainer will be able to provide. The database can maintain the inventory of items
that are being sold, along with historical data

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Bride Of Frankenstein...
It is amazing how words on a page take a life of their own once they are written. An author s story can
take readers away on a magic carpet ride, to a magical castle that anything can happen in Britain, even
through a wardrobe to a land far away and draft them in the battle of a lifetime. But what is even more
fascinating is that unlike humans, the words on the page never changes. From this moment to 200
years from now, the words on this page will always be the same, it is only the reader and the world
around them that changes. Take for example Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In 1818, Shelley had a
nightmare that lead her to write her novel as a personification of the Victorian Culture s fascination of
science and death. In 1934, director James Whale adapted the material into The Bride of Frankenstein
film, and was an allegory for pre WWII unity, then in 1997, someone interpreted the film as a
homosexual allegory for the 1990 s. This paper will examine how Mary Shelley adapted her
nightmare into an allegory for her Victorian era audience, how James Whale used her original text to
turn The Bride of Frankenstein into a message of unity for a pre WWII audience, as well as how Garry
Morris uses Whale s film to create a pro same sex marriage message out of the text in 1997.
Mary Shelley adapted her nightmare of a mad scientist bringing a dead body back to life, into a text
that reflects Victorian Customs is by featuring the importance of education in Victorian society as

Anthony Ng Architects Limited
ANTHONY NG ARCHITECTS LIMITED: building towards a paperless future 2011 BSM920 Topics
in Advanced Strategy Group D 8/6/2011 1. Introduction Since the 1970s, the architectural industry in
Hong Kong enjoyed a brilliant growth as a result of real estate and stock market speculation. In 1996,
the industry was very profit oriented and time conscious, and heavy bureaucracy was one of the main
characteristics of the market. The role of the government and others institutions such as the HKIA
(Hong Kong Institute of Architects) are essential in the Hong Kong architectural industry. Anthony Ng
is an architect from Hong Kong who started his own architectural practice in 1991 in Wan Chai.

government is a national institution which encourage compliance as it is taken for granted as the way
things are done (Oliver 1991, Shenkar 2002) = gt; cognitive internalization To respond to these
institutional pressures, Anthony Ng decides to use co option strategies to cope with government
pressures. Learning to deal with the Building department was an important aspect of the architectural
industry, as it would help avoiding important delays and loss of contracts. Another aspect of the co
option strategies use by Anthony Ng was to adopt corporate social responsibility which is considered
as a new institutional logic (Lee, 2008). In addition to standards building and attractive designs,
Anthony Ng decided to work on eco friendly projects, which enabled the firm to won the highest
honour from the HKIA. 3. Chaos The implementation of a paperless system was a change that would
take place in a complex environment. When starting to use this new system Anthony Ng did not know
the real outcome of this change, because there could have been many different effects that were
largely unknown in advance. When the staff started using the paperless system, the organization could

History Of The National Retail Federation
The National Retail Federation is the Nation s largest retail group with over 18,000 member
companies. The NRF represents 1.6 million companies and over 24 million employees. It makes sense
since retail is one of the largest industries in the world. Retail accounts for 1 in 4 jobs in the United
States and contributes over 2.6 Trillion to the annual GDP. The NRF has several different things it
does, like many other special interest groups. It mainly serves as a voice for the retail industry. With
over 10 different interests residing in fields from Chain Restaurants, Finance and Global Issues, to
Legal, Small Business, and Technology. They are a voice for every type of retail, and anything that is

Patrick s Day, Super Bowl, Tax Returns, Valentine s Day, and the Holiday Season.). One of the biggest
reasons they do this is to provide a tangible service for their due paying members. While members do
see value in the NRF s lobbying, it is very hard to measure and really see results from most of the
time. Like many other interest groups, this is the NRF s way of staying afloat and paying those who
lobby. That is why due paying members are crucial to the NRF, this is their main source of income.
Along with that, the NRF is also funded by large conferences and events. The conferences they host
are some of the largest n retail with over 40,000 attendees. Another reason the NRF puts out these
reports and hosts events is to gain recognition and create a reputable strong name. In today s world if a
business does not have a name for themselves, they can not succeed. The NRF recognizes how crucial
this is. If they want to properly lobby and advocate for retail, they must have some authority when
going to government officials.
This leads us to the lobbying side of the NRF. The group lobbys for retail, and everything that affects
it. The NRF breaks down into different specific areas to lobby for. With over 60 departments/
committees, they cover a broad range of things. Some of the very specific groups lobby for: protection
against patent trolls, consumer credit issues, postal issues, supply chain, and support for the Americans
with Disability Act. The NRF has a

Vince Lombardi once said, It s not whether you get knocked down. It s whether you get back up. In

Price Value Of A Product Or Service
First of all, price represents the value of a good or service for both seller and buyer. The value attached
to a good or service is based on both tangible elements (such as product quality and benefits) as well
as intangible elements (the feel good factor taken into consideration for luxury products). Price is the
only element in the marketing mix that produces revenue; all other elements represent costs. (Sallie
Phillips, 2015, p.99); it also represents a relevant factor in the decision to purchase a product or a
service. It affects both the sales volume and profit.
Establishing the value of a product or service is not easy. A wide variety of relevant factors such as the
cost of goods or services, the market factors, sales volume, competition, economic conditions, must be
taken into consideration. Although, price desideratum is an ideal hard to reach, the price should be
high enough to cover the costs and generate revenue.Pricing it may have different guidelines. The
most relevant pricing strategies are cost based pricing, value based pricing, and competition based
pricing.
The cost based pricing strategy is determined by the total product cost plus an individual profit. The
most significant advantage of this approach is that it guarantees to cover the costs of the production of
the good or service. The price is made by various types of costs (fixed costs and variable costs). Fixed
costs do not vary depending on the level of production and sales. For example, a company

College Students Are Responsible For Interpreting And...
College students are responsible for interpreting and remembering a vast amount of information. An
efficient method for remembering things can be associations that are pictures or sounds that aid a
person in remembering information. There also can be certain distractions that can hinder the amount
of information that one can recollect. In a two way ANOVA, we tested the effect that associations and
distractions can have on memory recall. We hypothesized that when an association was present,
participants would be able to record more words than when there not any associations present. We also
hypothesized that when a distraction was present, participants would record less words than when
distractions are not present. We used a between subjects design and with the use of a visual
presentation to we tested college level students on their memory recall. According to the data
collected, we accept the null hypothesis for both of the hypothesis. Since none of the trials presented
to the participants contained a significant difference, associations and distractions that were tested
were not significant enough to be from a different population.
Introduction
The research and experimentation that was done in this study is very important in the efforts to learn
more on the issue of memory recall and what specifically can effect one s performance. This
information can help improve the methods of teaching in schools where students heavily rely on
memorizing things. It is pertinent

A Pursuit to Compromise Happiness Everyone that is living in the world we live in today are all

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Perkins Gilman
Perkins Gilman aptly used narrative voice to shape the meaning of The Yellow Wallpaper, by writing a
first person narrative about a woman who slowly loses herself to madness. This voice is one of a
woman who may possibly have post partum depression or some other form of manic depression, and
her unheard cries for help. She slowly draws within herself, and allows the insanity to take over.
Within the first few paragraphs we learn general characteristics about the narrator: she is middle class,
as indicated by the phrase mere ordinary people (354); we also learn that she is married, suggested a
statement about John laughing at her, something she says is only expected in marriage. Though we are
never given her name, these generic aspects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early on, she openly admits that she may be ill, which quickly lends some reason to doubt when it
comes to some of the things she talks about. Are there really women hiding behind the wallpaper?
Surely not. Is there a woman lurking in the bushes outside? Unlikely. Are the patterns and shapes on
the wallpaper interesting and thought provoking? Probably so. That is all she thought of the wallpaper
when first confined to the room yellowish in color, with strange shapes woven into the texture.
However, as her condition worsens, the way she looks at the wallpaper grows more and more
distorted. The textures and strokes take shape and form; they turn into living beings, women who are
confined between the layers of wallpaper. The narrator begins to feel sympathetic for them, feeling
trapped and confined as well. The narrative slowly shifts from first to second person, with the
inclusion of a you. Instead of simply describing her feelings, she then begins to say this is how such a
thing would make you feel.
The narrator s descriptions of the room itself change with each entry. At first, it is merely irritating.
She describes the color as repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded
by the slow turning light (356). Any reliable, sane person would be irritated by an ugly yellow on their
walls. By the second entry, she admits she has a growing fondness for the room, aside from the
wallpaper. She starts to pick out

African American Oppression
Oppression and vulnerability can correlate with each other. For one to feel vulnerable, this can be
caused by oppression. The way the two can coincide with each other is not difficult. Once one is
exposed to oppression, the human body can feel vulnerable in many ways. After reading Between the
World and Me by Coates and watching I Am Not Your Negro , you can see and actually feel how
African American see vulnerability. Both the book, and the movie are about how African American
strive to overcome circumstance they can t control. Coates write a letter to his young son on how to

Statistics show that in America, African Americans are leading the nation in deaths. Going back to
slavery, blacks were oppressed by their owners and held against their will. Now it is 2018, and many
say the same how blacks are still more vulnerable to death than others. So many innocent lives have
been taken from police brutality, hate crimes, and many other situations. African Americans are at the
top of the list of being brutally victimized as a race. In Between the World and Me , this was the kind
of treatment Coates was trying to express to his son in his writing. Blacks and other minorities have a
hard time living their lives, because their seen as something their not. You can be an honor roll student
and still be treated like a criminal. A perfect example of that is Coate s classmate Prince Jones. Prince
Jones was even considered an privileged youth, but still got his life taken over a senseless crime. That
is why I state in life we are all vulnerable to death. It does not matter how rich or famous you are, you
can still have your life taken away in an instant. Another example is in the movie I Am Not Your
Negro , you can watch how forceful and brutal whites and police officers were to African Americans.
They were verbally and physically abused as an act of oppression. Prince s death can be seen as a
result of oppression. He was not treated right, and did not get the justice he deserved. The unfair

The research by Indiana University Professor Johan Bollen shows that their algorithms are capable of
predicting the direction of DJIA with 87 percent accuracy, up to four days before the actual move
happens in the market. Here is an example of their findings.
In the graph the blue line represents the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the red line represents the
predicted model of stock prices based on twitter updates. The trends are separated for better viewing
in the middle and bottom graphs. From the graph we can see that when delayed by three days, the
trends in predicted model of stock prices overlaps meaningfully with the Dow (top). However, events
that the public cannot predict, like the bank bailout pointed to in the top, can disrupt the accuracy of
the predicted model of stock prices. b) Another research study says it has found a correlation between
the social media popularity of key brands and their share price, and suggests that it might be used as a
lead indicator to determine the trend of the stock price as well. The author of the study, Arthur O

stock prices of three major stocks over a 10 month period. He also made three predictions, claiming
that Wal Mart, Viacom and Sony each had seen major recent growth in key social media profiles,

Analysis Of Outcasts In Gregory Boyle s Tattoos On The...
Outcasts in society are in need of love and compassion. In the book Tattoos on The Heart by Gregory
Boyle, Father Greg gives gang members an opportunity to better themselves by providing them with
jobs. Attention makes gang members realize they are worthy.
Giving gang members attention makes them apprehend that they are worthy. Yolanda, an active
woman from the parish, expressed to Speedy, Sabes que, mijo, she says, Te digo una cosa. If anything
happened to you, it would break my heart in two ... You know, he says, tapping his heart with his
finger, That sh*t made me feel good (Boyle 58). Speedy was hanging out with a girl from a rival gang,
which he knew was extremely dangerous, but he didn t care whether he lived or died. Speedy
understood that he was a worthy person when Yolanda expressed to him that there is people who care
for him and his wellbeing.
Gang members recognize they are worthy when they receive attention. Father Greg explains the
reaction Lula, a young ex gang member, had when he states, I roll down my window and catch his
attention Hey, Lula. You would have thought I had electrocuted him. His whole body spasmed with
delight to be known, to be called, to hear his name uttered out loud (Boyle 47). Father Greg
acknowledged Lula and made conversation with him. This made him feel happy because Father Greg
knew who he was and took the time to converse with him. Even the smallest form of attention can

Essay on A Feminist Journey through Beethoven s Musical...
A Feminist Journey through Beethoven s Musical Structure
Traditional analysis of Beethoven s use of Sonata Allegro form tends to focus on harmonic or melodic
movement and key relationships. This study stretches such investigations to include questions of
historical context and philosophic motivations that drive a composer to structure music in a certain
way. Ultimately this leads to an inquiry about how these traditions affect us as listeners, and more
specifically how they relate to gender issues in a musical tradition primarily made up of male
composers.
Music of the 1700s is often characterized as highly structured and balanced. A favorite form for pieces
of many kinds was the sonata form, which relies heavily on the basic ... Show more content on

Hadow says that Haydn and Mozart s use of the same melodic material for both the first and second
subject was indicative of their influence from binary form. But Beethoven, who was a much more
daring innovator, as well as a much greater master of structure, than either of his predecessors never
committed such an atrocity, since such a scheme would only help to stereotype an outworn and
obsolete form (61). The melodic material of the two themes makes up the exposition, melodic
expansion on those themes constitutes the development and a return to the themes makes up the
recapitulation. Ternary form s use of different melodic material allowed for variety while its strict key
relationships kept unity throughout.
Charles Rosen, on the other hand, sees harmonic rather than melodic material as central to sonata
analysis. He says that the fact is that while the placing, number, and character of the themes, at least
from Scarlatti to Beethoven, have in an importance which ought not to be underestimated, they are in
no sense the determining factors of the form (30). In fact, although Beethoven might not explicitly use
the existing first theme in the next key area, often the second theme is clearly a variant of the opening
theme (31). The key areas rather than the melodic themes can be seen as constituting a two part

The Paleo Diet By Loren Cordain
The Lemonade Cleanse
In the article, The Paleo Diet by Loren Cordain, the author talks about America s fascination with diet
fads, telling readers about their widespread appeal as a fix all for America s health problems and
obesity. I have to admit, like a lot of people, I am a bandwagon jumper. Whether this new fad be a new
fashion trend or a new video game sensation, chances are that I ve tried it. And new diet fads are no
exception for me.
One of the things that has become popular today is the cleanse. Cleanses can take many forms, but the
main function of these is to detox the body. Many scientists, such as Dr. Joy Dubost, a dietitian and
food scientist, warn people to shy away from such cleanses that claim to give the body a total detox.
Dubost states that, Your body has built in mechanisms for detoxification, including your liver,
kidneys, and gastrointestinal system. Going on a cleanse is not going to aide these bodily systems in
doing their job. These are short term diets that often consist solely of liquids that contain very little
caloric value and can often make going on a cleanse dangerous.
As a child, like many American children, I ate relatively unhealthily. For breakfast I would have
sugary cereal and lunch and dinner usually followed up with something equally bad for my health.
However, after each one of these meals I would dart outside to run around and play with my best
friend. My high energy and active lifestyle allowed me to get away with my diet at

Literary Analysis OfThe Goldfinch, By Donna Tartt
The story in the novel The Goldfinch, written by Donna Tartt, begins even before Tartt s writing
begins. Upon opening the novel, the first sentence present is a quote by Albert Camus, stating, The
absurd does not liberate, it binds . Even before beginning this novel, the meaning of this quote shines
through; the peculiar things that happen in life are what bring people together, a fate is not necessarily
a punishment. This quote begins the first section of the novel and gives great meaning to it as the
protagonist quickly learns that his world does not end just because his mother s does. At the beginning
of the novel, the protagonist, Theo Decker is introduced in his hotel room in Amsterdam, feeling
lonesome and miserable. Shortly after the introduction, the point of view is changed from this older
version of Theo to a much younger, thirteen year old Theo. At this point in time, Theo explains about
the death of his mother, the woman whom he regarded most highly. While on their way to a meeting
with the principal of Theo s school due to his poor behaviour, the two stop at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. Theo s mother, Audrey is extremely passionate about art and her favourite painting is
entitled The Goldfinch , painted by Carel Fabritius. In stopping to examine the painting, Theo thinks
to himself It was a direct and matter of fact little creature, with nothing sentimental about it; and
something about the neat, compact way it tucked down inside itself its brightness, its alert watchful
expression made me think of pictures I d seen of my mother ... a dark capped finch with steady eyes
(Tartt 27). This moment is important because it displays Theo s kind hearted, innocent and observant
nature. By comparing his mother to the painting she loves the most, and by finding the good in the
painting, despite being plain, Theo demonstrates his innocence and ability to be observant. This
comparison between the bird in the painting and his mother leads to the development of a symbol
throughout the novel. While in the museum, a terrorist attack occurs. Bombs are set off and multiple
explosions occur in the gift shop of the museum, where Audrey is. Fortunately for Theo, who is
entranced by a strange looking,

School Day In High School
The school bell rings at 2:50 indicating the end of the school day. I race out of my AP Chemistry class
and head straight for my car parked across the street from the high school. Within four minutes, I m
pulling out of the parking lot and heading north on McHenry Avenue. As I drive as efficiently as
possible, I scan the street for any dangers. I approach the only stoplight on this relatively short journey
and I pray that it s green. Luckily, it almost always is. I continue up the street for a few more blocks
and pull into the parking lot of the public library at 2:58. I put the car in park, turn it off, open the
glove department and grab my earbuds, and take the water bottle from my backpack. I sprint up the
stairs, into the Youth Department, and straight to the carts of books to be put away. Within seconds,
my earbuds are in, the podcast app is open, and I m pulling a cart of books over to the Junior Non

Hybridity In Garcia Marquez s Of Love And Other Demons
In the novel Of Love and Other Demons, the author uses a few kinds of magic to bring out a few
themes, mainly the themes of love and hybridity.
The author uses Sierva Maria s hair as a magic symbol for love. The novel is framed by a description
of Sierva Maria s hair. Firstly in the introduction, Garcia Marquez sees a stream of living hair the
intense color of copper (pg 6) pouring out of the Santa Clara crypt. In the final line of the novel,
strands of hair gushed like bubbles as they grew back on her shaved head (pg 109). Both usage of hair
as a magic symbol shows Garcia Marquez s use of magical realism. It is unrealistic for hair to
continue living and growing in death, and also for it to grow so quickly and immediately after Sierva

After being bitten by the dog, Sierva Maira is believed to have contracted rabies. While the Africans
consider it quite mundane, the Spaniards read it as purely demonic because of their belief in the
superstition of fearing animals and what relates to animalism inherent in human beings. Therefore, the
issue of being possessed by the demons dramatizes a trepidation. Marquez paints a vivid picture of the
hybridity in the novel that is highlighted by the demonic magic by portraying the difference in how the
blacks and the whites faces this issue. In the novel, the Bishop sees rabies as a form that the demon
may take to enter an innocent body. The superstitious Abbess to whom Sierva Maria is entrusted finds
something supernatural and portentous in every ordinary event; the fact that she did not notice the girl
s presence in her courtyard for several hours meant to her that the girl must have been rendered
invisible by witchcraft. While the servants sat enchanted (pg 49) by Sierva Maria s singing, the
Abbess raised the crucifix she wore around her neck (pg 49). The use of demonic magic brought on by
the bite of the dog thus highlights the different treatment that is received by Sierva Maria, therefore
bringing the reader s focus to the theme of hybridity in the

Rights Of The Legal System
Right to Legal Counsel Access to justice refers to one s ability to access the legal system to enforce
one s legal rights. Without access to the legal system, an individual s legal rights are meaningless. The
maldistribution of legal services has rendered the ideal of equality before the law an empty promise.
Ensuring access to justice is cumbersome, as a constitutional right to legal counsel will impose a
considerable burden on taxpayers. The Charter of Rights and Freedom (the Charter ) guarantees the
right to legal counsel for criminal matters. Conversely, right to civil legal aid only arises when
someone s life, liberty, or security of the person is threatened by state action. The state action
requirement excludes all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extra legal solutions aim to incentivize practicing lawyers to engage in pro bono work. This paper will
focus on incentivizing lawyers to do pro bono work. First, the paper will discuss the main barrier to
pro bono work and then it will suggest a general framework to address the barrier. The main barrier to
pro bono work is liability risk, which should be shifted to an insurance provider.
The main reason behind private practice lawyers reluctance to take on pro bono cases is liability risk.
In Canada, most practicing lawyers have professional liability insurance coverage. According to the
Federation of Law Societies of Canada ( FLSC ) report, in Ontario, 85 out of 125 charges laid resulted
in conviction. Overall, LawPro (main insurance provider to lawyers in Ontario) received 5140
complaints. Even though there is only 1.65% chance of a successful malpractice claim (but 68%
chance if a charge is laid), lawyers are still fearful of such claims. Lawyers practice meticulously
because mistakes will end their career. For example, the team of lawyers that drafted the contract in
the comma case will likely not be hired again. The legal profession is reputation based. Clients expect
expertise, competence, and perfection. Failure to deliver less than a perfect document that costs the
client money will ruin the lawyer s reputation. The time between the retainer agreement and closing
letter, lawyers are vulnerable. The opposing counsel cannot harm the lawyer as

mechanical functionality of aeronautical propulsion systems, from the early attempts at propulsion to
modern propulsion system such as propeller, internal combustion engine, ramjet engine and gas

almost exclusively involved in astronautics and will not be discussed.
As an engineer will have to decide the best combination of engine and thrust device to attach to an

A jet engine follows Newton s Third law and as such the rushing hot gases creates a force in the
opposite and parallel direction.
Propulsion systems are not jet engine exclusive. Propulsion system are the constant Conversion any of
various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion to produce thrust. Thus it can be viewed as
an energy transformer.
This transformation is however not perfect and brings into account how efficient the system is. The
efficiency is the ratio between the input and intended output of the system. This unfortunately is never
100% and is a critical factor that plays into propulsion systems and fuel options.
DRAG
Drag is the aeronautical term for the air resistance encounter by an object in motion. Drag acts in the
inverse direction to the objects movement through the air as it constrains its movement and acts
parallel to the relative wind stream.
Drag can be managed in aircraft and countered by increasing its aerodynamic properties. These
include incorporating streamlined shapes, having cleaned surfaces, implementing flush fitting bolts
and also several other configuration characteristics.
The secondary responsibility of an aircraft s engine is to handle and conquer the drag. However, the
more thrust produced the more air resistance encountered and consequently produces increased drag
on the aircraft.

The Last of the Mohicans and Stereotyped Native Americans
[1] Native Americans were part of this country long before our founding forefathers. They were the
people that Christopher Columbus found inhabiting this land. There is even evidence to show that they
have been on the American continents for thousands and even tens of thousands of years. Yet,
somehow the European powers dominated these people, forcing them from their land to make it ours.
In the early part of the twentieth century, a new industry began to develop; we call it the film industry.
Along with the industry came movies that were made and are still made for the amusement of a mass

Filmmakers showed what they felt had already been conventional to their beliefs about Native
Americans. In the film The Last of the Mohicans (1920) these two contrasting roles of Native
Americans dominate most of the plot. The fiend is Magua, and the noble savage is Uncas. These two
roles that are shown of Native Americans have some historical ground, but what makes one side good
and the other bad? Is it because that is how society wants to see them? And does the director s
representation of the two sides gain them acceptance in American culture? In the history of America,
Native American tribes often became associated with similar tribes with similar beliefs. This is true of
the two tribes in The Last of the Mohicans. The Huron, who according to the historical events of Fort
William Henry are the Iroquois and the Mohicans are historically associated with the Delaware. The
Huron in the various versions of The Last of the Mohicans, come to represent the Iroquois who were
allied with the French, and were seen as evil in the eyes of the British. The Mohicans, historically
come to represent the noble Delaware, who were allied to the British. These tribes get grouped
together, the Huron [became] condensed into the same entity as Maquas, Mingoes and Mohawks and
contrasted with the superior virtue of the Delawares and Mohicans (Clark 122). These tribes were

Essay On Vertical Integration
Vertical and Horizontal Integration of Health Systems in Various Regions
In the health care system, various integration strategies involve services to improve the delivery of
care. However, these services include a vertical and horizontal integrated health system that will help
organizations increase market share, become more diversified, and achieve cost advantages by using
existing operation to offer new products or services (Shi Singh, 2015).
Vertical Integrated Health Systems
For example, Florida Hospital, who is a member of the Adventist Health System, is a vertically
integrated health care system that first started in 1908 with a small group of Seventh Day Adventists
(Florida Hospital System, 2017). It is known as one of the largest not for profit healthcare
organizations in the country with 22 campuses throughout Florida (Florida Hospital System, 2017).
Florida Hospital has tremendously expanded that it provides various services in cancer, orthopedics,

Examining Evidence Based Practice For Patients With Chest...
The important arguments for the need to implement evidence based practice (EBP) are that it leads to
the highest quality of care and the best patient outcome (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). It is the
standard of practice for nurses to be able to use research skills for evidence based knowledge that are
relevant to their clinical practice. The purpose of this paper is to outline and compare the selected
articles on how the study findings related to patients with chest pain, to determine the validity and
reliability of the selected articles, and to formulate a plan for implementing the newly acquired
knowledge into clinical practice. Selected Articles to the Phenomenon of Interest Chest pain is a
common complaint in all health care setting. The cause can be from mild self limiting musculoskeletal
disorder to life threatening condition like acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Approximately 24.5 to
49.8% of patients with chest pain have chest wall syndrome, and only 1.5 to 3.6% of patients have
ACS that need immediate interventions (Haasenritter et al., 2015). Therefore, the selected meta
analysis articles will be focus on the most common cause of chest pain the musculoskeletal pain,
(Croft, Peat, van der Windt, 2010), and the most serious cause of chest pain, the ACS (Abbas, 2015).
Brief summaries of the selected quantitative and qualitative articles appear in the Appendix. The cause
of pain can be puzzling and is not always related to specific pathology (Croft et al.,

René Descartes Meditations
In Meditation Two of René Descartes Meditation on First Philosophy, he notes the sight of men
crossing the square. This observation is important as Descartes states, But what do I see aside from
hats and clothes, which could easily hide automata? Yet I judge them to be men. This is an important
realization as Descartes argues that instead of purely noticing the men through sight, it is actually
solely with the faculty of judgement, the mind, that perceives and concludes that the thing wearing a
hat and clothes are men. I argue that this view of the outside world by Descartes is incomplete as his
idea of I is faulty, as well as having a misunderstanding on the importance of the senses. In Meditation
One, Descartes shows that the

Comparing The Matrix And Plato s Allegory Of The Cave
Do you take the red pill or the blue pill? Is ignorance bliss or is the truth worth knowing? These are
questions which revolves around the battle of accepting or rejecting the illusions that constructs all of
life. In both The Matrix and Plato s Allegory of the Cave contemplate the question of what is real?
According to Plato, knowledge gained through our senses is no more than an opinion, and to obtain
true knowledge we must gain by philosophical reasoning. In the Matrix written and directed by the
Wachowski sisters, grasped its own complex version of a false reality formed by our perception of life
as the actual one surrounds it. Furthermore, the film is no more than an interpretation of Plato s

Majority of Plato s works are written in dialogue in order in make the reader discover the importance
of his writing in gradually step to making it easily for the reader to accept. In the Allegory of the Cave
Plato structured it in the form of a dialogue between Socrates and Glaucon. According to Frédéric
Cossutta Dialogic in his article Characteristics of Philosophical Discourse:The Case of Plato s
Dialogues, The dialogical plays a constitutive role: the logical (demonstrative rules), the dialogical
(dialogical rules), and the dramaturgical (narrative rules). In fact, these three dimensions are
inextricable in the dialogues, having been separated for analytical purposes only. In making
participants responsible for what they say, we make plain the fact that the acceptance of the dialogical
rules, the ethical norms that sustain them, and their dramaturgical embodiment is the same acceptance.
To clarify the reasoning why Plato writing is in a dialogue, is because in order to make a person search
for the truth, it must be formed as a process of assertions, and by testing those assertions or
questioning these statements help build reasoning behind Plato s theory; How stating mere ideas is not
sufficient, and it is important to put those beliefs into a test of reasoning. Plato does this by making

New Religious Movements and the Biased Media
What happened in Jonestown? How could sensible people follow the rantings of a crazed lunatic? The
questions and the simplified answers that are provided by the media coverage of Jonestown and
Heaven s Gate perhaps contributed to their downfall. The feeling of public persecution is a central
theme of many new religious movements, and the negative publicity of suicide cults only fuels the
fear of other like minded religious groups. The misleading definitions the media provided for the how,
what and why of these new religious movements were symptomatic of the media bias against all such
movements. Through examination of the print media response immediately following both mass

Religious Sect s Jungle Temple. A father of one woman living in Jonestown revealed how all the
members had written undated suicide notes while still in the United States and had staged mass
suicide rehearsals. They will be all dead by tomorrow, he predicted. Another article on Monday
detailed how the Deaths in Guyana Threaten Sect s California Organization. Members of the People s
Temple in California had read a statement on Sunday that declared, Rev. Jim Jones has always
deplored violence...and whatever the circumstances of the airstrip incident it is not the kind of action
anyone in the temple would precipitate. The article also mentioned that, according to an interview
with his wife, Marceline, Jim Jones did not believe in Christianity but was instead a Marxist.[1]
This important distinction of Jones political views began a discussion that would continue in
subsequent descriptions of him. According to the articles, Jones realized early that in order to bring
people out of their superstition, you have to give them a substitute. Through the description of Jones
radical political beliefs, the media found an alternative for why Jones was able to lead so many to their
death. The religious beliefs of Jim Jones and

F. Salinger s The Catcher s The Rye
There s always been a need to hide certain thoughts or actions from the eyes of others. Society tends
to look down towards others who doesn t follow in the majority s footsteps. In The Catcher in the Rye,
Holden struggles to make sense of his thoughts. Many times, he makes judgements or vocalizes his
thoughts which leads to many judgments placed upon him. In The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger
uses society s reactions to Holden s struggle to place himself within the society, in a light that
emphasizes his behavior as irrational or in madness, demonstrating how the clouded perception that
society has of others can lead to misconceptions of rational behavior. In the novel Holden has varying
thoughts about different aspects of life and due to them, the way he takes on a situation can be unique
compared to the majority of people. Holden at one time vocalizes his thoughts to Sally, showing how
he wishes to run away with her. He expresses his plan, I have about a hundred and eighty bucks in the
bank. I can take it out when it opens in the morning, and then I could go down and get this guy s car.
No kidding. We ll stay in these cabin camps and stuff like that till the dough runs out. Then, when the
dough runs out, I could get a job somewhere and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and,
later on, we could get married or something. I could chop all our own wood in the wintertime and all.

Analyzing Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Short Stories

Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Stories Edgar Allen Poe exhibits many different themes
throughout his poems and short stories, most readers see his stories as consistently and exclusively
putting death at the fore front in themes but there are countless other themes that Poe puts in his
stories and poems. These themes include love, uncertainty, subconscious self, nature, human
imagination, hope and despair so one can see that Poe is not as death oriented as many people think
and say he is. The first theme I will be focusing on in this evaluation is death, Poe wrote many if not
most of his short stories and poems focusing on death for example in Eldorado the main character can
only fulfill his goals through dying, another example is The Raven where the main character is
increasingly focused on imminent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story Telltale Heart the narrator for nights on end ponders in detail of how he will kill the old
man who is living in his house while trying to explain how he has not lost his own sanity this
depiction of the human imagination ties directly into Poe s theme of death because he not only thinks
about how he will kill he old man but inevitably kills the old man and hides him under the floor
boards of his home. Nature, this theme is an underlying one and is not easily picked out of his stories
yet the connection can still be made, in the short story The City in the Sea the city that had once
prospered inevitably gets destroyed and sinks to hell, this gives the reader the idea that Poe does not
like urbanized life and prefers nature. To support this idea, you can also make the connection that
many of the Protagonists in Poe s stories and poems wander around in forests and other natural areas
to discover something about their selves and have an epiphany you could call it like in the story

Religion Has Been A Major Force In The History Of The United
Religion has been a major force in the history of the United States and in settling the colonies of
America in many ways. Religion was definitely one of the major reasons for the founding of the
colonies. The early colonists wanted the freedom to worship God as they had seen as proper, and they
were promised this freedom of worship. Most of these colonies were deeply rooted in their religious
beliefs. Religion was a powerful influence on the social and political life of the colonial times in the
New World. Typically, in the colonies, the church was a large building in the middle of a town and
was used for town meetings and community gatherings in addition to worship. During this time, a
church was the first building to go up, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Quakers and Puritans moved from their homes in Europe and England because of the unfairness
in their religious beliefs. They sought to reform the Anglican religious practice, which was to purify
the church and later became known as the Puritans (Wood). They demanded for the removal of all
Roman Catholic rituals and wanted to simplify religion to its basics (Shi, 42). The Puritans landed in
American where new colonies were created. The Puritans did not accept those that believed differently
than they did. They left England because they refused to worship in Anglican churches. The Puritans
refused the Quakers and any others citizenship who believed in a different form of worship. The
Quakers had also refused to support the Church of England and were under the leadership of William
Penn. The Quakers stamped their values on the government of Pennsylvania. Other Puritans that were
not as radical in their religious views later formed settlements along the Massachusetts Bay (Wood).
The Pilgrims main reason in coming to America was that they were searching for the freedom to
worship. The Pilgrims, defined as a person who journeys to a place for religious reasons, were also
known as Separatists. The Separatists were with the Pilgrims who traveled across the Atlantic and
settled the first permanent English settlement, Plymouth Colony in New England. The Separatists
required that each congregation rule itself and not be controlled by a bureaucracy

According to Mintzberg s configurations Toyota is seen as a Divisional Bureaucracy. The
divisionalized structure has the middle line as its key part; it uses standardization of output as its prime
coordinating mechanism. It also employs limited vertical decentralization. While, decision making is
decentralized at the divisional level. Therefore, there is little coordination among the separate
divisions. The corporate level personnel provide some coordination. As a result, each division itself is
relatively centralized and tends to resemble a machine bureaucracy.
In this, the functional and product structure responsibilities are blended, as chief engineers are
responsible for product structure responsibilities, while the managers are responsible for functional
responsibilities. This dual command system is based on both functions and products. This facilitates

The Influence Of The Roman Catholic Church And Christianity
In the 16th century, Christianity dominated western Europe due to the Roman Empire. The Roman
Catholic Church controlled most of the Christian ideology through the king and especially through the
pope. The power the Roman Catholic Church held was primarily due to the fear that people had at the
time and their belief that everything the Roman Catholic Church was true because they could not read
or apply Christianity to themselves from Scripture. The first great divide with this power, however,
came when Martin Luther wrote the 95 Theses about the selling of indulgences and other issues he
found with the Church. Luther was an educated theologian professor who believed that the average
person should be able to have access to Scripture (all Scripture at the time was in original forms of
Greek, Latin, or Hebrew) in their own languages. Luther fought for this ideal throughout his life as a
monk and professor, sparking an ideological revolution about the place of man in relation to God.
While Roman Catholicism saw the pope as the highest and only true link to God, Luther believed any
man could fulfill their duty to God and speak through their faith alone. This caused a significant
conflict in Christian ideology because Roman Catholics believed the pope s word was final, and the
pope said that Christians could and should buy indulgences and provide material things to the Church
in the name of Christianity to secure their place in Heaven. Luther, on the other hand, countered this in

  • 2. Chemical Reactions Chemistry Chemical Reaction and the PH Scale Chemical reactions are the heart of chemistry. People have always known that they exist. The Ancient Greeks were the firsts to speculate on the composition of matter. They thought that it was possible that individual particles made up matter. As you might imagine, it s useful to be able to measure the acidity of solutions. Scientists have come up with the pH scale for determining the concentration of acid in a solution so we can distinguish between solutions with varying acidity. A Chemical reaction is the outcome of two or more elements together results in the formation of a chemical bond between atoms and compound. Chemicals react together due to ... • 3. Internet Based Architecture And Its Impact On System... 1. The Internet has had an enormous impact on system architecture. (Rosenblatt, 2013, p.417). The reward of selecting an Internet based architecture has the benefit of being able to assist the users with daily business transactions in an environment that is online. The shift to Internet based collaboration has been so powerful and compelling that it has been named Web 2.0. Web 2.0 envisions a second generation of the Web that will enable people to collaborate, interact, and share information more dynamically. (Rosenblatt, 2013, p.419). Also, with the Internet based architecture, the whole system is on the web server, eliminating the need for a server/system. In an Internet based architecture, in addition to data and application ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The information you want to tell to Gray is that by using a Web based marketing you can make the advertising interactive, people would be able to access the site for all online transactions, and the customer will be able to make comments to improve the overall business. The most important of that point is the achievable expectation when we make the push for more internet marketing efforts, we want to make attainable goals. The goals we set will show to Gray that Web marketing is the best way for Personal Trainer to interact with their customers and have the ability to have our presence on the internet. 3. For the point of sale transactions (POS), Personal Trainer will have hardware and software requirements. For the hardware, a scanner will be needed to scan the item into the system. The scanner should be able to either scan money amounts or barcodes that represent the item in the system. A monitor would be required to see the items that are scanned and to verify the price of the item; if a keyboard is not attached to the system, the monitor should also have a touchscreen. All these items should be plugged into a system that will contain the software that should maintain the database for inventory and sales. The software should be able to maintain a database that has all the items and service that Personal Trainer will be able to provide. The database can maintain the inventory of items that are being sold, along with historical data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Bride Of Frankenstein... It is amazing how words on a page take a life of their own once they are written. An author s story can take readers away on a magic carpet ride, to a magical castle that anything can happen in Britain, even through a wardrobe to a land far away and draft them in the battle of a lifetime. But what is even more fascinating is that unlike humans, the words on the page never changes. From this moment to 200 years from now, the words on this page will always be the same, it is only the reader and the world around them that changes. Take for example Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In 1818, Shelley had a nightmare that lead her to write her novel as a personification of the Victorian Culture s fascination of science and death. In 1934, director James Whale adapted the material into The Bride of Frankenstein film, and was an allegory for pre WWII unity, then in 1997, someone interpreted the film as a homosexual allegory for the 1990 s. This paper will examine how Mary Shelley adapted her nightmare into an allegory for her Victorian era audience, how James Whale used her original text to turn The Bride of Frankenstein into a message of unity for a pre WWII audience, as well as how Garry Morris uses Whale s film to create a pro same sex marriage message out of the text in 1997. Mary Shelley adapted her nightmare of a mad scientist bringing a dead body back to life, into a text that reflects Victorian Customs is by featuring the importance of education in Victorian society as ... Introduction Since the 1970s, the architectural industry in Hong Kong enjoyed a brilliant growth as a result of real estate and stock market speculation. In 1996, the industry was very profit oriented and time conscious, and heavy bureaucracy was one of the main characteristics of the market. The role of the government and others institutions such as the HKIA (Hong Kong Institute of Architects) are essential in the Hong Kong architectural industry. Learning to deal with the Building department was an important aspect of the architectural industry, as it would help avoiding important delays and loss of contracts. Another aspect of the co option strategies use by Anthony Ng was to adopt corporate social responsibility which is considered as a new institutional logic (Lee, 2008). In addition to standards building and attractive designs, Anthony Ng decided to work on eco friendly projects, which enabled the firm to won the highest honour from the HKIA. 3. Chaos The implementation of a paperless system was a change that would take place in a complex environment. When starting to use this new system Anthony Ng did not know the real outcome of this change, because there could have been many different effects that were largely unknown in advance. The NRF represents 1.6 million companies and over 24 million employees. It makes sense since retail is one of the largest industries in the world. Retail accounts for 1 in 4 jobs in the United States and contributes over 2.6 Trillion to the annual GDP. The NRF has several different things it does, like many other special interest groups. Patrick s Day, Super Bowl, Tax Returns, Valentine s Day, and the Holiday Season.). One of the biggest reasons they do this is to provide a tangible service for their due paying members. While members do see value in the NRF s lobbying, it is very hard to measure and really see results from most of the time. Like many other interest groups, this is the NRF s way of staying afloat and paying those who lobby. That is why due paying members are crucial to the NRF, this is their main source of income. Along with that, the NRF is also funded by large conferences and events. The conferences they host are some of the largest n retail with over 40,000 attendees. Another reason the NRF puts out these reports and hosts events is to gain recognition and create a reputable strong name. In today s world if a business does not have a name for themselves, they can not succeed. The NRF recognizes how crucial this is. If they want to properly lobby and advocate for retail, they must have some authority when going to government officials. This leads us to the lobbying side of the NRF. The group lobbys for retail, and everything that affects it. The NRF breaks down into different specific areas to lobby for. With over 60 departments/ committees, they cover a broad range of things. Some of the very specific groups lobby for: protection against patent trolls, consumer credit issues, postal issues, supply chain, and support for the Americans with Disability Act. The NRF has a ... • 10. Price Value Of A Product Or Service First of all, price represents the value of a good or service for both seller and buyer. The value attached to a good or service is based on both tangible elements (such as product quality and benefits) as well as intangible elements (the feel good factor taken into consideration for luxury products). Price is the only element in the marketing mix that produces revenue; all other elements represent costs. (Sallie Phillips, 2015, p.99); it also represents a relevant factor in the decision to purchase a product or a service. It affects both the sales volume and profit. Establishing the value of a product or service is not easy. A wide variety of relevant factors such as the cost of goods or services, the market factors, sales volume, competition, economic conditions, must be taken into consideration. Although, price desideratum is an ideal hard to reach, the price should be high enough to cover the costs and generate revenue.Pricing it may have different guidelines. The most relevant pricing strategies are cost based pricing, value based pricing, and competition based pricing. The cost based pricing strategy is determined by the total product cost plus an individual profit. The most significant advantage of this approach is that it guarantees to cover the costs of the production of the good or service. The price is made by various types of costs (fixed costs and variable costs). Fixed costs do not vary depending on the level of production and sales. For example, a company ... • 11. College Students Are Responsible For Interpreting And... College students are responsible for interpreting and remembering a vast amount of information. An efficient method for remembering things can be associations that are pictures or sounds that aid a person in remembering information. There also can be certain distractions that can hinder the amount of information that one can recollect. In a two way ANOVA, we tested the effect that associations and distractions can have on memory recall. We hypothesized that when an association was present, participants would be able to record more words than when there not any associations present. We also hypothesized that when a distraction was present, participants would record less words than when distractions are not present. We used a between subjects design and with the use of a visual presentation to we tested college level students on their memory recall. According to the data collected, we accept the null hypothesis for both of the hypothesis. Since none of the trials presented to the participants contained a significant difference, associations and distractions that were tested were not significant enough to be from a different population. Introduction The research and experimentation that was done in this study is very important in the efforts to learn more on the issue of memory recall and what specifically can effect one s performance. This information can help improve the methods of teaching in schools where students heavily rely on memorizing things. It is pertinent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Perkins Gilman Perkins Gilman aptly used narrative voice to shape the meaning of The Yellow Wallpaper, by writing a first person narrative about a woman who slowly loses herself to madness. This voice is one of a woman who may possibly have post partum depression or some other form of manic depression, and her unheard cries for help. She slowly draws within herself, and allows the insanity to take over. Within the first few paragraphs we learn general characteristics about the narrator: she is middle class, as indicated by the phrase mere ordinary people (354); we also learn that she is married, suggested a statement about John laughing at her, something she says is only expected in marriage. Surely not. Is there a woman lurking in the bushes outside? Unlikely. Are the patterns and shapes on the wallpaper interesting and thought provoking? Probably so. That is all she thought of the wallpaper when first confined to the room yellowish in color, with strange shapes woven into the texture. However, as her condition worsens, the way she looks at the wallpaper grows more and more distorted. The textures and strokes take shape and form; they turn into living beings, women who are confined between the layers of wallpaper. The narrator begins to feel sympathetic for them, feeling trapped and confined as well. The narrative slowly shifts from first to second person, with the inclusion of a you. Instead of simply describing her feelings, she then begins to say this is how such a thing would make you feel. The narrator s descriptions of the room itself change with each entry. At first, it is merely irritating. She describes the color as repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow turning light (356). Any reliable, sane person would be irritated by an ugly yellow on their walls. By the second entry, she admits she has a growing fondness for the room, aside from the wallpaper. The trends are separated for better viewing in the middle and bottom graphs. From the graph we can see that when delayed by three days, the trends in predicted model of stock prices overlaps meaningfully with the Dow (top). However, events that the public cannot predict, like the bank bailout pointed to in the top, can disrupt the accuracy of the predicted model of stock prices. b) Another research study says it has found a correlation between the social media popularity of key brands and their share price, and suggests that it might be used as a lead indicator to determine the trend of the stock price as well. The author of the study, Arthur O Connor, a post doctoral student at Pace University said that he was able to reliably predict the daily stock prices of three major stocks over a 10 month period. A Feminist Journey through Beethoven s Musical Structure Traditional analysis of Beethoven s use of Sonata Allegro form tends to focus on harmonic or melodic movement and key relationships. This study stretches such investigations to include questions of historical context and philosophic motivations that drive a composer to structure music in a certain way. Ultimately this leads to an inquiry about how these traditions affect us as listeners, and more specifically how they relate to gender issues in a musical tradition primarily made up of male composers. Music of the 1700s is often characterized as highly structured and balanced. A favorite form for pieces of many kinds was the sonata form, which relies heavily on the basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hadow says that Haydn and Mozart s use of the same melodic material for both the first and second subject was indicative of their influence from binary form. But Beethoven, who was a much more daring innovator, as well as a much greater master of structure, than either of his predecessors never committed such an atrocity, since such a scheme would only help to stereotype an outworn and obsolete form (61). The melodic material of the two themes makes up the exposition, melodic expansion on those themes constitutes the development and a return to the themes makes up the recapitulation. Ternary form s use of different melodic material allowed for variety while its strict key relationships kept unity throughout. Charles Rosen, on the other hand, sees harmonic rather than melodic material as central to sonata analysis. He says that the fact is that while the placing, number, and character of the themes, at least from Scarlatti to Beethoven, have in an importance which ought not to be underestimated, they are in no sense the determining factors of the form (30). In fact, although Beethoven might not explicitly use the existing first theme in the next key area, often the second theme is clearly a variant of the opening theme (31). And new diet fads are no exception for me. One of the things that has become popular today is the cleanse. Cleanses can take many forms, but the main function of these is to detox the body. Many scientists, such as Dr. Joy Dubost, a dietitian and food scientist, warn people to shy away from such cleanses that claim to give the body a total detox. • 19. Literary Analysis OfThe Goldfinch, By Donna Tartt The story in the novel The Goldfinch, written by Donna Tartt, begins even before Tartt s writing begins. Upon opening the novel, the first sentence present is a quote by Albert Camus, stating, The absurd does not liberate, it binds . Even before beginning this novel, the meaning of this quote shines through; the peculiar things that happen in life are what bring people together, a fate is not necessarily a punishment. This quote begins the first section of the novel and gives great meaning to it as the protagonist quickly learns that his world does not end just because his mother s does. At the beginning of the novel, the protagonist, Theo Decker is introduced in his hotel room in Amsterdam, feeling lonesome and miserable. Shortly after the introduction, the point of view is changed from this older version of Theo to a much younger, thirteen year old Theo. At this point in time, Theo explains about the death of his mother, the woman whom he regarded most highly. While on their way to a meeting with the principal of Theo s school due to his poor behaviour, the two stop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Theo s mother, Audrey is extremely passionate about art and her favourite painting is entitled The Goldfinch , painted by Carel Fabritius. In stopping to examine the painting, Theo thinks to himself It was a direct and matter of fact little creature, with nothing sentimental about it; and something about the neat, compact way it tucked down inside itself its brightness, its alert watchful expression made me think of pictures I d seen of my mother ... a dark capped finch with steady eyes (Tartt 27). This moment is important because it displays Theo s kind hearted, innocent and observant nature. By comparing his mother to the painting she loves the most, and by finding the good in the painting, despite being plain, Theo demonstrates his innocence and ability to be observant. This comparison between the bird in the painting and his mother leads to the development of a symbol throughout the novel. While in the museum, a terrorist attack occurs. Bombs are set off and multiple explosions occur in the gift shop of the museum, where Audrey is. Fortunately for Theo, who is entranced by a strange looking, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After being bitten by the dog, Sierva Maira is believed to have contracted rabies. While the Africans consider it quite mundane, the Spaniards read it as purely demonic because of their belief in the superstition of fearing animals and what relates to animalism inherent in human beings. Therefore, the issue of being possessed by the demons dramatizes a trepidation. Marquez paints a vivid picture of the hybridity in the novel that is highlighted by the demonic magic by portraying the difference in how the blacks and the whites faces this issue. In the novel, the Bishop sees rabies as a form that the demon may take to enter an innocent body. The superstitious Abbess to whom Sierva Maria is entrusted finds something supernatural and portentous in every ordinary event; the fact that she did not notice the girl s presence in her courtyard for several hours meant to her that the girl must have been rendered invisible by witchcraft. While the servants sat enchanted (pg 49) by Sierva Maria s singing, the Abbess raised the crucifix she wore around her neck (pg 49). The Quakers and Puritans moved from their homes in Europe and England because of the unfairness in their religious beliefs. They sought to reform the Anglican religious practice, which was to purify the church and later became known as the Puritans (Wood). They demanded for the removal of all Roman Catholic rituals and wanted to simplify religion to its basics (Shi, 42). The Puritans landed in American where new colonies were created. • 35. The Influence Of The Roman Catholic Church And Christianity In the 16th century, Christianity dominated western Europe due to the Roman Empire. The Roman Catholic Church controlled most of the Christian ideology through the king and especially through the pope. The power the Roman Catholic Church held was primarily due to the fear that people had at the time and their belief that everything the Roman Catholic Church was true because they could not read or apply Christianity to themselves from Scripture.
