Government Regulation In Brave New World
Science often sparks many debates because of its controversiality. The scientific advancements that
have occurred over the last few decades have received attention because of the funding and regulation
from the government that is required. Although some people support government regulation of
scientific advancements, others do not. Scientific advancements are the development of the natural
world and its surroundings that are meant to enhance life. Government regulation is control by
authorities to establish order. A totalitarian government is a government in which the state has
complete control and acts dictatorial. In Aldous Huxley s most widely acclaimed novel, Brave New
World, government regulation on scientific advancement is criticized ... Show more content on

Although some believe that without government regulation, embryonic stem cell research and cloning
would do more harm than help, it is actually true that scientific advancements help more than they
harm. For instance, science has improved life and made it more efficient. Huxley portrays a dystopian
world where the government strongly regulates science, and as a result the society is stable, but at the
expense of true happiness. Lenina felt herself entitled, after this day of queerness and horror, to a
complete and absolute holiday. As soon as they got back to the rest house, she swallowed six half
gramme tablets of soma, lay down on her bed, and within ten minutes had embarked for lunar eternity
(Huxley 149) Lenina is unable to cope without soma, a drug that relieves consumers of their emotions.
She will never be truly happy because of her dependence on soma and the government s tight grip on
the order of the World State. Huxley s use of satire to emphasize the impossibility of a utopia also
shows that government regulation can lead to their own downfall because of the absence of
individuality. Totalitarian government regulation is not necessary because it only hinders the
development of the society. Cloning is allowing scientists to make new discoveries

This medium level risk is mitigated by dedicating a network solely to dealing with the needs of the
secondary server.
There is also the risk of data confidentiality at the third level with the CSP. This is also a medium level
risk, which is mitigated by ensuring the contract drawn with the CSP enforces strict data access level
measures.
The business continuity plans guards Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability at all times. Ensure
confidentiality by enforcing access to the backups to only the disaster response team and the system
administrators in charge. Ensure integrity by verifying and validating the backup snapshots after the
backup is completed. Ensure availability by providing dual power to the backup servers so that the
business would not be disrupted at any time due to data center disasters.
CONCLUSION
Disasters are unforeseen circumstances and the only way of tackling them is to be thoroughly prepared
for the impact. The prime aim of having a Disaster Recovery and a Business Continuity Plan is to
have minimal impact on day to day businesses. The Three tiered business continuity plan suggested
above considers many aspects of unanticipated problems and shows readiness to work around these

her death fascination. Emily Dickinson s poem I heard a Fly buzz is about Emily/speaker observing
their own death. The speaker then begins to convey more about the death and what the corpse is

Purloined Letter Deception
If you are good at something don t do it for free. Heath Ledger. In The Purloined Letter by Edgar
Allan Poe s detective story, Dupin , the detective, instead of helping police find the Purloined letter he
himself finds and gets the reward. The minster creates two types of deception. The Purloined letter
themes include types of deception : Omission, Equivocation, Falsification, and logic versus
imagination. In the story, Poe demonstrates deception with each of his three main character Dupin :
the detective, G : the Parisian police and D : the minister. G uses Omission during his conversation
with Dupin and Dupin s assistant about the stolen letter. I will tell you in a few words; but, before I

School Safety And The Environment
As the climate in schools continues to change, parents and educators are concerned with school safety
and the environment. The role of the school counselor is to help students develop positive social skills
and to ensure students have access to academic and social activities regardless of their age, gender,
sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status and religion. Schools in American are made up of
children of color and many of them face inequality because of old institutional practices that don t
meet the needs of all students. Minority students, low income students and students who speak a
language other than English, tend to be assigned to teachers who lack the experience and skills to
educate multicultural students ( (Peske, 2006). Schools that fail to recognize multicultural education,
deprive students from attaining the skills and individual beliefs and values they need to succeed post
high school. Students that feel invalidated tend to feel anger and rejected by their peers. They also are
more likely to have problems reaching academic success. As a professional that seek to help all
individuals in need, one must have a willingness to recognize and understand the worth all people.
Multicultural counseling/therapy means understanding the worldviews and life experiences of diverse
groups in our nation (Sue, 2013). Consider a Latino male student that has transferred to a
predominantly white school and has been referred to the school counselor because his

Introduction
Prostate cancer (PCa), the development of cancer in the prostate, is one of the most mortal diseases
that threaten men s lives in current world. It is the most commonly diagnosed non skin cancer in the
United States, and it is second leading cause of cancer deaths in American men. Autopsy series have
revealed that small prostatic carcinomas are present in up to 64 percent of men from 60 to 70 years of
age. [1] Most prostate cancers are slow growing, and it causes no symptoms in early stages. Thus,
most patients are found in advanced stage. Older age, race and family background of the disease are
three main factors to increase the risk of the disease. A few other factors are linked to increase the
disease including dietary, medication exposure, viral and sexual factors.
Nanotechnology is a novel technology what generally deals with structures and systems with a size
less than 100nm. [1] Due to its unique tiny size, the properties are quite different from bulk properties
include physical properties, chemistry properties, biological properties. For example, gold in bulk
form is inert, but in nano scale, it tends to be very active. Moreover, different sizes, structures, and
surface areas of gold nanoparticles make it exhibit different colors.

Jackie Robinson Research Papers
4. Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in rural Cairo, Georgia. He was the youngest of five
children, and raised by a single mother. Growing up in Pasadena, California, Jackie was relatively
poor. Jackie attended John Muir High School and Pasadena Junior High, where he excelled in four
sports: football, basketball, track, and baseball. Jackie continued his schooling at UCLA and in 1941,
he was forced to leave due to financial hardship. Jackie then moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he
played semi professional football for the Bears. Jackie s season was cut short when the United States
entered into World War II, and he served as a second lieutenant in the army until 1944. In 1944, Jackie
refused to give up his seat and move to the back of a segregated bus. As a result, Jackie was arrested
and court martialed. Fortunately, Jackie was acquitted of the charges and received an honorable
discharge after public light was shed on the injustice. Jackie s courage and moral objection to
segregation were precursors to the impact Jackie would have in MLB.
One person important to Jackie Robinson was Reverend Karl Downs. Karl Everitt Downs was the 25

Companionship In Frankenstein
Companionship A friend is defined as a person whom one knows and trusts. In every society in the
world, people have this essential relationship and need it. In some societies this relationship is given
more importance than others, such as family relationships. In today s society, friends are given almost
the same attention as ones family member. Family is the closest relationship a person has, but a
companion or a friend has almost, if not more, the same relationship. In the novels, Frankenstein and
A Color Purple, Mary Shelley and Alice Walker focus on the human need for companionship and how
the characters want, look for, and need companionship. In everyday life, humans want to interact with

In Frankenstein, The Creature asks Victor to make him a companion just like him: I demand a creature
of another sex, but as hideous as myself; the gratification is small, but it is all that I can receive, and
shall content me (Shelley 148). This shows that The Creature is lonely, and is looking for someone to
keep him company. It is very lonely for the creature, and not just because the monster is shunned and
hated by all mankind (Shelley 147). He s shunned and hated by all womankind, too: Shall each man,
he says, find a wife for his bosom, and each beast have his mate, and I be alone? (Shelley 172). He
begs Frankenstein to make him a mate, and he really seems sincere when he says that he s just
planning to move to South America and eat acorns and berries (Shelley 148). The creature knows the
human race offers no consolation to him so he wants a mate like him. People run, scream, or try to kill
him whenever they see him. Celie also has a need for companionship. In The Color Purple, A key role
in the book seems to be a sense of recognition to Celie. She gains proper respect from others and
makes friends due to her courage and standing up for herself. As Celie states: I don t know nothing
bout it, I say to Shug. I don t know much she say (Walker 113). This statement shows that Celie is
beginning to experience a real relationship with someone she cares about. For the first time in her life
she truly loved someone besides her sister. This is when Celie gains self confidence from being with
Shug, and with this she finally learned how to stand up to Mr. Albert. We are shown this for one of the
first times in the discussion at dinner. At that dinner we really get to see how much Celie has grown
and how independent she is becoming. She tells Mr. Albert: You a lowdown dog is what you is what s

Swot Analysis Of Retronics, A Software Engineering Firm Essay
Background Information History Retronics, a software engineering firm located in Silicon Valley, was
founded in 1990s. Many internet based companies were founded at that period since a new economic
sector grew up and it attracted many investors. With the new economic sector and its privileged
geographic location, Retronics could easily attract a tremendous amount of capital funding and
investments, as well as a long list of big clients. Owing to the high interest rate, many people invested
in the dot com companies and their stock prices had risen sharply. The bubble burst when it hit the
peak. Millions of investors and companies suffered from the dot com bubble. Retronics, one of the
suffering companies, had to lay off employees for survival in the extreme environment. In 2003, the
board of director fired the founder of Retronics and hired George Latour, who was experienced in
enterprise scale systems and operations as the new CEO. Development George had brought in new
investments for the company after his inauguration. After 16 months, the company s revenue did not
reach a satisfying level and the market share started to decline as competitions became more intense.
George was very nervous and worried about the figures and he had no ideas of how to change the
company s fortune. On the other hand, Shelley Stern, the marketing director came into the company
by the way of the chairman, Pete Dmitrijevich. George was asked by Pete to train and coach her since

Sodium Chloride Sucrose And Potato Osmosis
The Effect of Sodium Chloride, Glucose, and Sucrose on Potato Tissue
By Rachel Thurmes
ABSTRACT
This experiment examined the water potential of white potatoes, and compared them to those
previously recorded. The validity of van t Hoff s Law was also tested by using different solutes in
which to test the potatoes. This was done by measuring potato core weight before and after soaking
them in solutions of different dissociations, and determining the percent weight change. Then van t
Hoff s Law was used to calculate the water potential of the potatoes. The water potential of the
potatoes soaked in sodium chloride was 5.67, glucose was 5.92, and sucrose was 5.66. These results
do not agree with van t Hoff s Law.
INTRODUCTION
This experiment examined the relationship between different concentrations of sodium chloride,
glucose and sucrose, and potato tissue. The water potential was estimated through a series of steps
leading us to find the point at which the percent weight change of the potatoes was zero, then using
van t Hoff s law to calculate the osmotic potential. Water potential is the chemical potential of water
compared to that of pure water, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This experiment went through a series of steps, starting with placing 100mL of different
concentrations of sodium chloride (NaCl) in separate beakers. Sections of potato were punched out,
then dried and recorded for initial weight. Five were placed in each concentration of the sodium
chloride, and left to sit for an hour and a half. The mixtures were swirled about every fifteen minutes
to prevent shells of water from building up around the core and causing error in the results. After the
hour and a half, we removed the potato sections, dried them and then weighed them for the final
weight. The percent change in weight was calculated using the equation % Change = 100*(Final Wt

Essay On Emphysema
Emphysema
Around 2 million Americans suffer from emphysema. Emphysema is known as a disease of the lung
that cause shortness of breath due to over inflation of the alveoli or air sacs in the lungs. It is a
progressive and irreversible condition in which the alveoli are damaged by inhaled irritants. In this
paper I will be discussing with you the causes, the process in which this disease develops, signs and
symptoms, the diagnosis, and any treatment of emphysema.
Causes
Emphysema is caused by a plethora of problems that I will soon discuss, but the number one cause of
emphysema is due to smoking. It is known that 85% of patients who get emphysema smoke, but not
all smokers will develop emphysema depending on their genetics. Smoking destroys the lung tissue
obstructing the airflow and can also cause inflammation and irritate the airways causing an
obstruction. Smoke damages the cilia in the bronchial tubes which are basically tiny hairs that usually

Some patients dealing with emphysema may not even know they have the disease. The common
symptom of emphysema is shortness of breath. Its noticed during the earlier stages of the disease
when you re exercising or doing strenuous activities, also a chronic cough would be present. In the
later stages patients start to feel breathless while at rest, catching infections in the lungs often,
wheezing, fatigue, cyanosis of the extremities and copious mucus. The most noticeable sign of
emphysema is when a patient has pursed lipped breathing. That s when the patient has a hard time
exhaling completely to empty the trapped air in their lungs, so when they purse their lips creating a
small opening, it increases the pressure in the restricted airways, allowing them to open to empty the
trapped air. Patients tend to develop barrel chest as a result from air trapping due to obstructed

Ethics of Penn Square and Dow Corning
Ethics of Penn Square Bank and the Dow Corning Bankruptcy Penn Square Bank: What were the
ethical pressures on the firm concerning documentation, credit extension, and revenue recognition that
lead to the final collapse? What should have been done to reduce or offset these pressures?
Penn Square Bank was a small commercial bank in Oklahoma City which made high risk financial
loans during the late 1970s in the oil boom. The bank ultimately collapsed during the early 1980s due
to their financing practices. The bank was overestimating and valuing its customer s gas and oil

Dow Corning Corporation was founded in 1943 as a jointly owned enterprise by The Dow Chemical
Company and Corning Incorporated to develop the potential of silicone materials. Dow Corning s
principal businesses were silicone materials and polycrystalline silicon.
In the early 1960 s Dow Corning supplied Texas plastic surgeons Frank Gerow and Thomas Cronin
with silicone for their medical implant device research. Gerow and Cronin, using Dow Corning
silicone, invented the first silicone breast implant as a device to aid women who had undergone
mastectomies. At that time, the Food and Drug Administration had no regulations governing
implantable devices. Companies like Dow Corning had to determine the safety of devices on their
own. The surgeons conducted clinical trials of the implant prior to product introduction in 1964. In the
next several years, the implant grew popular for cosmetic surgery as well as reconstructive, and Dow
Corning cornered both markets. Between 1960s and the mid 1990s, about two million women
nationwide have received breast implants, most of them for cosmetic reasons. However, some women
have started to complain that the implants have ruptured, allowing gel to leak into the breast cavity

Technology Has Changed Our Lives Today
It s hard to imagine living our day to day lives without music. It is everywhere, and it has changed in
more ways than one over the last ten, twenty years. More accurately, the way we listen and enjoy to it
has changed, thanks to technology s massive influence on the way that we live our lives today. With
most things there s both the good and the bad, and this situation is no different. But I believe that
technology is causing so much more chaos than calm for the modern music and entertainment
industry. Music has become so easy to access and listen to, thanks to advances in technology. We now
have the ability to listen to music, on demand, at any time, and anywhere we go. It s in our pockets, on
our iPods, on our phones, tablets and laptops. We can listen to music on free to air on television and
radio. We can pull out a device, press play, and have music right there at our fingertips. Although this
appears to be positive for the consumer, meaning that there is more music available for them to enjoy
with increased accessibility, the effect on record labels and artists is somewhat negative. Gone are the
days where you would save up your money to purchase the $20 CD from the record store, just to get
that one song you loved. There are still people who will purchase vinyl records and CDs for the
purpose of having a collection, but as a whole, consumers aren t purchasing and stockpiling music like
they once used to. This is because the way that we buy, access and listen to

Why I Want To Be A Drummer
Drummers are perennially underrated. Some writers make rock critic jokes, even other musicians
make drummer jokes. But where would the Beatles be without their drummer Ringo Star. The real
human drummer was replaced with electronic computer machines during the eighties and nineties for
a while, but music fans realized that this was not as good as the sound of a real talented drummer. The
drummer does not just support the band they hold it up and push the forward. Robert Plant, the lead
singer of Led Zeppelin was very fond of his drummer, John Bonham, who was one of the best
drummers out there during his time and even today. When he passed away the lead singer could not go
on anymore in the band Led Zeppelin, because he knew it would not be the same without his original
and super talented drummer. The loss of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This goes to show just how important the drummer is and how they can keep a band together.
The argument on how much practice it takes to be a drummer is essential for new musicians to learn
about because if they truly want to be a drummer they must know that it is not the usual go to
instrument in a band. It takes so much patience and practice to become a good enough drummer to
even be in a band. It is also imperative to know how much work goes into becoming the drummer
because some fans may view the drummer as just the guy or girl in the background where they need to
realize how a band cannot be a band without the drummer. This argument is also for the drummers out
there who need to receive more recognition from their fans. Drumming has been around forever, and it
is such remarkable instrument to learn. Drummers may also

The Federal Government Should Have Greater Authority On...
This paper will discuss the prevailing Canadian debate of whether the federal government should have
greater authority on administering health care. Essentially, Canada s health care program referred to as
Medicare, is administered by the provinces while regulated by the federal government through the
Canada Health Act of 1984. One side of the debate, using the political theory of pluralism, argues
against federal leadership and instead emphasizes for provincial authority on matters of health care
since Canada is inherently composed of individuals with differing interests and values. Through a
decentralized framework, each province will be able to implement efficient health services that will
meet the demands of its citizens. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The political elites also acknowledged that it would be in their best interests to respond to group
demands. Barker s second contention states that provinces can provide the best quality health care
according to their demographics and socioeconomic factors. For example, Saskatchewan primarily
utilizes its federal grants for a community based approach of providing health care such rehabilitation
services while Ontario primarily invests in effective hospital care. Through a pluralist approach,
Barker argues that various interest groups exist that want to play a role in the decision making of
national programs to meet their own needs and therefore diversities can be best accommodated when
provinces lead social programs.
However, an institutionalist approach can critique the pluralist contentions made by Barker. Regarding
his legal contention, it can be argued that the distribution of power on health care depicted in the
constitution is outdated since there were vast divisions between English and French physicians as well
as differing health and religious practices during the 1800s. Due to the divisions, it was resolved that
the provinces would administer public policies regarding

How Does Didion Create Tension In Los Angeles Notebook

Naturalism In Cythera
On looking closely at her sculpture it is seen that cupid s arrows are tied to her along with a garland of
flowers. These are clear connotations of love. Cupid can be seen sitting below the sculpture with his
quiver down almost as though nothing has to be done to bring love in that area. He is seen tugging the
skirt of the lady sitting near him, as though he is urging her to fall in love with the man on her right,
who seems to be trying too. On following the coupled figures down towards the boat, is a conspiracy
whether the boat bought the figures to Cythera or is taking them to the island of Cythera. On closely
observing the body language of the figures, it is noticed how they get closer and closer towards a state
of intimacy. As observed towards the boat a couple is seen where the women is holding the man s arm
of her own volition, she doesn t have to be coaxed anymore. The progression of the figures almost
looks like a form of dance. The second figured couple hold hands similar to the dance form in the 18th
century.

The French crowd desired more dramatic and realistic art which led to the birth of this art form. The
favourite themes the realism artists liked to paint was scenes of urban life , scenes of rural life, street

movement moved away from what was ideal to what was simply ordinary . Artists preferred painting
real and ordinary people in contrary to the previous movements where which focused on religious

Florida Recruit Case Study
Florida Recruiting: Inaugural Early Signing Day Preview
Tomorrow marks the first early signing period for college football recruits. Prospects from around the
country will be shutting down their recruitment processes, signing, and early enrolling to their
program of choice.
Dan Mullen was introduced as the 27th head coach in Florida Gators history just three weeks prior to
the inaugural signing period.
Despite seven de commitments from the Gators 2018 recruiting class since the arrival of Mullen, this
staff have put themselves in a position to close out the early signing period with a profusion of
momentum.

The opportunity of playing time awaits Jones in Gainesville and many believe he will sign his letter of
intent to the Gators on Wednesday.
Prediction: Florida
DB Trey Dean (Hampton, Ga.) Dean is another big time prospect that seems to be eyeing the Gators
more than other programs.
Dean de committed from the Tennessee Volunteers two weeks ago, and ever since, the Gators have
made a pursuit at landing the nations 22nd ranked safety.
Dean (6 foot 2, 180 pounds) is a long, athletic defensive back that possesses tremendous football IQ.
His length at defensive back benefits him in jump ball situations, allowing him to make a play on the
ball at its highest point.
Following an official visit to the Gators this past weekend, I expect Florida to seal the deal with Dean.
Florida also recently hired the Volunteers defensive back coach from a season ago (Dean s former
coach he committed to), making the pitch to Dean much easier.
Dean would be the fourth safety prospect to sign for the Gators on Wednesday. The staff made this
unit a priority on the trail and it will pay off during the inaugural early signing

Albert Bandura vs Raymond Cattell
Cattell was born in a small town in England. After seeing the deaths, and suffering of the people and
soldiers in World War I, Cattell began to have a huge curiosity in trying to fix the problems people
have in their lives by using science. Cattell was very big on personality, his definition of Personality is
that which permits a prediction of what a person will do in a given situation (Cattell). Cattells
definition of personality is very different from other theorist. Freud is a great example; Freud s theory
was that personality had three different types the id, the ego, and the super ego. A person that has a
strong personality can handle whatever happens to them and no matter how tough the challenge is for
them because they are so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theses models provide examples of behavior, for the children to observe and imitate. Children tend to
pay attention to most of the models. At a later time in the child s life they may imitate the behavior
that they are surrounded by. This can be related to nurture. Nurture means the things that us, as
humans see in our environment not something we are born with that comes natural to us. Nature on
the other hand is something that we inherit from our genetics. I agree with the study Bandura
conducted I feel as if we do have things that we are just born with, but I feel like the things that tend to
happen around us are really what influence us and make us the way we are. I for one know that there
are many things that I learned just from being observation and watching adults and people that are
older then me like my brother, I watched him do just about everything and everything he did I wanted
to copy and that s why I feel that we as humans tend to be the people we are by the way we observe
things. The movie Kumare is about a fake guru, whose mission is to show people that gurus are not as
real as people think they are. Kumare is the person that Vikram plays to try and show his followers
what they need to do. Kumare is expressed in an act of if. Basically if you as a person think that
something is true and is something that you can relate to it no matter if the religious teachings are not
true if you as a person believe that it is true, then it is

A Black Man In A Hoodie
This article I find is very, how do you say, stupid? Just because the website shows a black man in a
hoodie doesn t mean he s a thug or the photographer was trying to make a statement, that is just what
looked good to the photographer, and it s not right that all these black men and women are getting
slurs and names thrown at them for wearing a hoodie, something many of those posters might ve been
wearing at the time, as well as that the people that posted those things posted it because of the color of
the on screen person s skin. Hoodies are probably a staple in the fashion industry, especially as of
recent, more and more people wearing them daily, which brings me to the point of where the author

Ukraine crisis briefing paper
Briefing paper.
Should Russia expand beyond Crimea and further into Ukraine.
Introduction.
Tension in Ukraine began to rise when then the president Viktor Yanukovych rejected a deal proposed
by the European Union regarding trade agreements. Late last year when this deal was in consideration,
Viktor Yanukovych began to express his doubts in the final stages about signing the trade agreement.
For everyone in Ukraine it was clear that Vladimir Putin pressured Viktor Yanukovych so much that
essentially Putin made Yanukovych reject the deal. Just days later on 17th December Putin agrees to
buy 9bn pounds of Ukraine s debt and reduce the price of Russian gas supplies by about a third. Just
hours after Yanukovych rejected EU s proposal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His main motivations are ideology, social base and economic stimulus.
Putin has long upheld a KGB style Cold War mentality mixed with Conservatism of Russian thinkers
from early twentieth century such as Berdyaev, Solovyov and Ilyin. All of these thinkers, in one way
or another, were patriots as well as socialists and wanted Russia to be independent from any western
ideas which they claimed were manipulative in a sense that, western ideas would shape rest of the
world for their own interests. The mixture of ideas presented by these thinkers is exactly what Putin
needs to unite the legacies of both the Russian and Soviet empires into a solid path dependant
ideology. This ideology roughly says that Western countries spread some liberal and deleterious ideas
essentially hostile to Russia s tradition, and deliberately aims to destroy Russia s historically unique
culture that combines autocracy, orthodoxy and Slavic brotherhood. For this reason, Putin has no other
choice but to protect the historical Russian borders from such civilization challenge.
Putin has retained his thug image from his time in Leningrad. This thug image still shows today
through his vocabulary, the criminal bureaucratic system he built in Russia and his bold aggressive
behavior on the international stage. Putin has gained a lot of support from presenting himself in this
way, albeit mainly from the middle class and Russian elites. His

Death Of A Salesman Essay
Death of a Salesman written by Arthur Miller is a play is about the Lomans, an average middle class
dysfunctional family trying to live out the American Dream in the tough economic period of 1945 to
1950s. The lead character Willy Loman is a 63 year old traveling salesman who has lost his salary and
working only on commission. Exhausted from his work, he also is disturbed by the fact that his well
liked 34 year old son Biff, hasn t lived up to his potential of being a successful businessman. Willy has
trouble remembering things and at times unable to differentiate between the present and his memories.

The play displayed the social and economic problems occurring in the United States at that time.
Arthur Miller was born into a lower middle class family. His father owned a business of
manufacturing ladies wear that suffered a loss during the Great Depression. According to Sinclair s
article on Death of a Salesman the country came out of the depression when World War II started and
after the War there was an economic boom that increased inner city business and building of
apartment housings. The economic boom brought prosperity for the United States but mostly for the
rich as inflation increased. Typical normal Americans and low paid workers like salesman, shop
workers, unskilled workers, janitors and waiters experienced the bigger hit having a hard time
affording the basic necessities. For these people the American Dream of being successful and well off
became impossible as debt and purchases on credit increased. People were having a hard time trying
to make it with what they already had. Miller used his play to criticize the social and philosophical
failures of Capitalist society. During his writing process, Miller was conflicted with how to portray the
troubles of the character to an audience and didn t quite have the complete story. His encounter with
his uncle Manny Newman, who was a salesman and refused to accept failure and lack of confidence in
his household, inspired Miller to create the character of Willy and transform the incomplete story to

Immigration And Citizenship
Immigration and Citizenship in Ancient Rome and Today An issue that has always been of concern in
America is that of Immigration, and citizenship. The United States has at times been a blessed
sanctuary for those of foreign nationalities, and has at others been an unwelcoming, ostracizing place.
However, for most of our history, the rights and privileges of United States citizenship have been an
alluring proposition for those of more underprivileged means. The same could be said about the rights
and privileges of Roman citizenship in ancient times. The infrastructure, safety and freedoms of Rome
and the Roman government where unmatched. When a nation attracts large masses the way that the
United States does and the way that Rome once did, the dilemma occurs of how exactly to go about
allowing people to immigrate to, and gain citizenship into the nation. Ancient Rome had very clear
regulations for dealing with these issue, and today, the United States does as well. If one were a person
living in the middle to eastern part of Europe from roughly 700 B.C.E to 450 A.D., there were many
ways one could have come across Rome. One may have heard stories of a warring nation, within
which there is revolutionary government, revolutionary civil rights for the time, and rich commerce,
one may simply live near the nation, and have found yourself interested, or alternatively, one could be
the former citizen of a nation or sovereignty which Rome has just conquered. In any of these

Increased productivity can lead to an organisation having a more sustainable competitive advantage in
the market place (Li et al, 2007; Riemer et al, 2009). Reducing the time to market is especially
important from a managerial strategic point of view, within the sphere of competitive ecommerce
systems. Some of the reasons why it is important to reduce the time to market from a managerial view
point are as follows: Avoiding contract creep Schedule slippages Budget Overrun (Riemer, Steinfield,
Vogel, 2009) Collaboration among members within an organisation as well as people outside an
organisation has proven to be beneficial in the productivity of an organisation. The resulting increase
in productivity can be attributed to the increase in ideas and information being shared (Li et al., 2007;
Reimer et al., 2009). In order to create a virtual environment where collaboration can take place,
collaboration is done through some form of ICT (Li et al, 2007; Reimer et al, 2009). ICT based
collaboration is known as eCollaboration (Reimer et al, 2009). 3. E COLLABORATION AND

Reclaiming Conversation Summary
The advancement of technology has changed tremendously to the point where everybody depends on
it. Technology can be utilized for personal use, education, isolations, relationships and so much more,
where in Reclaiming Conversation by Sherry Turkle, discusses how detrimental technology can be
through her studies and others sources. In chapter, Four chairs, Sherry Turkle mentions how the
utilization of machines is influencing humans negatively. Therefore, the use of artificial intelligence is
unsuitable for children and adults. To start, Sherry mentions how smart toys have started to advance
where it made children believe that the new innovation toys give sentiments like a genuine human

Turkle speaks about her occupation at MIT where analysts experiment with robots by propelling its
capacity to be instructors, home associates and closest companions which focuses on specific age
groups but particularly to the elderly (2015). According to statistics there is no position available in
this field to take care of the old due to the population of less younger people. Therefore, researchers at
MIT trusts the making of caring machines . For this reason, Turkle indicates roboticists are not by any
means the only individuals with this thought, there has been chatter from others that is not in the
robotic world (2015). Therefore, humans trust the idea of having robots taking care of the elderly
rather than people. The reasons is that humans are thought to be cruel where the overseer can steal or
be abusive (Turkle 2015). Strangely enough, this shows grown ups have turned out to be so
contributed with technology, believing a robot can talk and care a for a person. Additionally, it
demonstrates a discrimination against mankind, due to not trusting the ability of a human being.
Furthermore, this creates the lack of living life and facing reality. As a result, artificial intelligence has
driven into the adults minds where they trust that contact with robots is great yet it is definitely

History Of Irish Immigration To America
Immigration of Irish to America
Out of all the topics we have discussed these last five weeks, I have to say the history of the Irish
coming to America is the one that I can relate to most for many reasons. One I am an immigrant who
came from Central America for the same reasons the Irish came and two I know what it is like to live
in a country where hunger for my family was pretty much every single day. The Irish came with a
dream at a time when America was being built. I have learned about so many injustices against the
Irish. Labor abuse was horrible, but I also know that it was better maybe then what was happening in
Ireland with the prosecution of their religion. With the lack of food due to the potato famine. With the

The Byzantine Empire and Western Europe Essay
The Byzantine Empire and Western Europe
The Byzantine Empire and Western Europe originally were part of the Roman Empire, but by the
middle Ages(medieval times), they were very different, even though they did share some common
traits, but by the 300 s, the Byzantine Empire had far surpassed Western Europe in trade and
economics and political unity, while both empires were having arguments over religion.
Despite the collapse of the Roman Empire, Europe still stood, separating into two different areas,
governed two different ways. Western Europe and the Byzantine Empire had very different
government structures. The Western half became Western Europe with popes, and princes ruling at
that time. The Eastern half became The Byzantine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Western Europe triumphed from their princes and the Pope ruling since they soon overcame The
Byzantine Empire. This was because having more than one ruler can hold together an empire or
countries better than one ruler. The princes had control of the government in their areas, and the Pope
had control of the entire religion in Western Europe. Having the Pope and the princes dealing with
separate issues is better than having just one emperor deal with all of their issues. Another difference
of the two halves of Europe was the monasteries and nunneries. Western Europe believed that they
should have both priests and nuns teaching and preaching to other people. The Byzantine Empire did
not feel that nuns were needed in their empire to preach and to teach other people. This was the most
likely cause for the many people in the empire converting to their barbaric enemies religions. If The
Byzantine Empire had used nuns to preach and teach their people, instead of having just priests and
monasteries, the people would not have converted the their enemies. Hence, The Byzantine Empire,
and Western Europe were greatly different than each other.
Though the two halves of Europe were very different than each other, they were also similar in ways
too. For instance, Western Europe had a feudal system in which a land owner gave land to another
person in exchange for military service. The Byzantine Empire had family based militaries in which
they helped each other

How Does Equity Fulfil the Common Law
How Does Equity Fulfill the Common Law Common Law Equity fulfils the common law, although it
does not endeavour to displace it with a moral code. In order to be influential, the law is to be
professed as both certain and predictable, and also flexible and fair. Specifically, it needs clear rules on
the one hand, but flexibility on the other to produce exceptions to cases that lead to apparently
incongruous or unjust conclusions if the rules are applied rigidly. Equity is an essence of principles,
doctrines, and rules advanced initially by the Court of Chancery in positive competition with the rules,
doctrines and principles of the Common Law Courts. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remedies represent some interesting illustrations of the difference between law and equity; a
difference which arose as; an accident of history, according to Lord Nicholls in A G v Blake.
Ordinarily legal rights and remedies remain separate from equitable ones. Some similarities do,
nevertheless, occur. For illustration, an injunction, an equitable remedy, can be sought for an
anticipatory breach of contract, or to stop a nuisance, both common law claims. In A G v Blake, the
House of Lords authorized the equitable remedy of account of profits for an assertion for violation of
contract where the common law remedy of damages would have been insufficient. The equitable
remedy of account of profits is usually accessible where there is a fiduciary relationship but the House
of Lords endorsed its request otherwise in exceptional cases where it was the operative way to remedy
a wrong. By distinction, in Seager v Copydex, proceedings were brought for breach of confidence in
regard for confidential information exposed by the defendants about a carpet grip. Such a claim is
equitable and normally the equitable remedies of injunction and account are obtainable. On the other
hand, an injunction would have been unsuccessful and he judges awarded damages. It would appear,
consequently that a common law remedy is

Federal Tax And Federal Income Tax
To most, the term federal income tax is just paying the government or money they don t get. But in
government and the world of finance, it is major and involved idea which involves a great deal of
focus and discussion. The United States federal income tax is a complex system which is a necessary
function of the government. A taxable amount is determined on income, and it creates taxation for the
government to accumulate money. There are many factors that play into the complexity of the system
which developed the processes of the federal income tax today. Understanding this financial system
requires a level of insight into the layers of information that the federal income tax entails. Taxation in
America has always been a huge factor of societal and governmental focus. The nation started with a
hatred for taxes dating back to the tax burden placed on the American colonies by Great Britain. Early
in its history, America had few very few taxes. However, it became the major source of revenue for the
United States government. The War of 1812 created a higher need for taxation, and initiated the nation
s first sales taxes which were placed on gold, silverware, jewelry, and watches. But in 1817 the
internal taxes were repealed, and the government relied on tariffs on imported goods for funds. Once
again, the onset of war generated a necessity of greater revenue, and in 1862, during the civil war, the
nation s first income tax was enacted. This income tax was the foundation to

  • 2. Government Regulation In Brave New World Science often sparks many debates because of its controversiality. The scientific advancements that have occurred over the last few decades have received attention because of the funding and regulation from the government that is required. Although some people support government regulation of scientific advancements, others do not. Scientific advancements are the development of the natural world and its surroundings that are meant to enhance life. Government regulation is control by authorities to establish order. A totalitarian government is a government in which the state has complete control and acts dictatorial. In Aldous Huxley s most widely acclaimed novel, Brave New World, government regulation on scientific advancement is criticized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although some believe that without government regulation, embryonic stem cell research and cloning would do more harm than help, it is actually true that scientific advancements help more than they harm. For instance, science has improved life and made it more efficient. Huxley portrays a dystopian world where the government strongly regulates science, and as a result the society is stable, but at the expense of true happiness. Lenina felt herself entitled, after this day of queerness and horror, to a complete and absolute holiday. As soon as they got back to the rest house, she swallowed six half gramme tablets of soma, lay down on her bed, and within ten minutes had embarked for lunar eternity (Huxley 149) Lenina is unable to cope without soma, a drug that relieves consumers of their emotions. She will never be truly happy because of her dependence on soma and the government s tight grip on the order of the World State. Huxley s use of satire to emphasize the impossibility of a utopia also shows that government regulation can lead to their own downfall because of the absence of individuality. Totalitarian government regulation is not necessary because it only hinders the development of the society. Cloning is allowing scientists to make new discoveries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The business continuity plans guards Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability at all times. Ensure confidentiality by enforcing access to the backups to only the disaster response team and the system administrators in charge. Ensure integrity by verifying and validating the backup snapshots after the backup is completed. Ensure availability by providing dual power to the backup servers so that the business would not be disrupted at any time due to data center disasters. CONCLUSION Disasters are unforeseen circumstances and the only way of tackling them is to be thoroughly prepared for the impact. The prime aim of having a Disaster Recovery and a Business Continuity Plan is to have minimal impact on day to day businesses. In The Purloined Letter by Edgar Allan Poe s detective story, Dupin , the detective, instead of helping police find the Purloined letter he himself finds and gets the reward. The minster creates two types of deception. The Purloined letter themes include types of deception : Omission, Equivocation, Falsification, and logic versus imagination. In the story, Poe demonstrates deception with each of his three main character Dupin : the detective, G : the Parisian police and D : the minister. G uses Omission during his conversation with Dupin and Dupin s assistant about the stolen letter. I will tell you in a few words; but, before I begin, let me caution you that this is an affair demanding the greatest secrecy, and that I should most probably lose the position I now hold, were it known that I confided it to anyone. • 6. School Safety And The Environment As the climate in schools continues to change, parents and educators are concerned with school safety and the environment. The role of the school counselor is to help students develop positive social skills and to ensure students have access to academic and social activities regardless of their age, gender, sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status and religion. Schools in American are made up of children of color and many of them face inequality because of old institutional practices that don t meet the needs of all students. Minority students, low income students and students who speak a language other than English, tend to be assigned to teachers who lack the experience and skills to educate multicultural students ( (Peske, 2006). Schools that fail to recognize multicultural education, deprive students from attaining the skills and individual beliefs and values they need to succeed post high school. Students that feel invalidated tend to feel anger and rejected by their peers. They also are more likely to have problems reaching academic success. As a professional that seek to help all individuals in need, one must have a willingness to recognize and understand the worth all people. Multicultural counseling/therapy means understanding the worldviews and life experiences of diverse groups in our nation (Sue, 2013). It is the most commonly diagnosed non skin cancer in the United States, and it is second leading cause of cancer deaths in American men. Autopsy series have revealed that small prostatic carcinomas are present in up to 64 percent of men from 60 to 70 years of age. [1] Most prostate cancers are slow growing, and it causes no symptoms in early stages. Thus, most patients are found in advanced stage. Older age, race and family background of the disease are three main factors to increase the risk of the disease. A few other factors are linked to increase the disease including dietary, medication exposure, viral and sexual factors. Nanotechnology is a novel technology what generally deals with structures and systems with a size less than 100nm. [1] Due to its unique tiny size, the properties are quite different from bulk properties include physical properties, chemistry properties, biological properties. Growing up in Pasadena, California, Jackie was relatively poor. Jackie attended John Muir High School and Pasadena Junior High, where he excelled in four sports: football, basketball, track, and baseball. Jackie continued his schooling at UCLA and in 1941, he was forced to leave due to financial hardship. Jackie then moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he played semi professional football for the Bears. Jackie s season was cut short when the United States entered into World War II, and he served as a second lieutenant in the army until 1944. In 1944, Jackie refused to give up his seat and move to the back of a segregated bus. As a result, Jackie was arrested and court martialed. Fortunately, Jackie was acquitted of the charges and received an honorable discharge after public light was shed on the injustice. Jackie s courage and moral objection to segregation were precursors to the impact Jackie would have in MLB. One person important to Jackie Robinson was Reverend Karl Downs. In some societies this relationship is given more importance than others, such as family relationships. In today s society, friends are given almost the same attention as ones family member. Family is the closest relationship a person has, but a companion or a friend has almost, if not more, the same relationship. This shows that The Creature is lonely, and is looking for someone to keep him company. It is very lonely for the creature, and not just because the monster is shunned and hated by all mankind (Shelley 147). He s shunned and hated by all womankind, too: Shall each man, he says, find a wife for his bosom, and each beast have his mate, and I be alone? (Shelley 172). He begs Frankenstein to make him a mate, and he really seems sincere when he says that he s just planning to move to South America and eat acorns and berries (Shelley 148). The creature knows the human race offers no consolation to him so he wants a mate like him. People run, scream, or try to kill him whenever they see him. Celie also has a need for companionship. In The Color Purple, A key role in the book seems to be a sense of recognition to Celie. She gains proper respect from others and makes friends due to her courage and standing up for herself. As Celie states: I don t know nothing bout it, I say to Shug. I don t know much she say (Walker 113). This is when Celie gains self confidence from being with Shug, and with this she finally learned how to stand up to Mr. Albert. We are shown this for one of the first times in the discussion at dinner. At that dinner we really get to see how much Celie has grown and how independent she is becoming. • 10. Swot Analysis Of Retronics, A Software Engineering Firm Essay Background Information History Retronics, a software engineering firm located in Silicon Valley, was founded in 1990s. Many internet based companies were founded at that period since a new economic sector grew up and it attracted many investors. With the new economic sector and its privileged geographic location, Retronics could easily attract a tremendous amount of capital funding and investments, as well as a long list of big clients. Owing to the high interest rate, many people invested in the dot com companies and their stock prices had risen sharply. The bubble burst when it hit the peak. Millions of investors and companies suffered from the dot com bubble. Retronics, one of the suffering companies, had to lay off employees for survival in the extreme environment. In 2003, the board of director fired the founder of Retronics and hired George Latour, who was experienced in enterprise scale systems and operations as the new CEO. Development George had brought in new investments for the company after his inauguration. After 16 months, the company s revenue did not reach a satisfying level and the market share started to decline as competitions became more intense. George was very nervous and worried about the figures and he had no ideas of how to change the company s fortune. • 11. Sodium Chloride Sucrose And Potato Osmosis The Effect of Sodium Chloride, Glucose, and Sucrose on Potato Tissue By Rachel Thurmes ABSTRACT This experiment examined the water potential of white potatoes, and compared them to those previously recorded. The validity of van t Hoff s Law was also tested by using different solutes in which to test the potatoes. This was done by measuring potato core weight before and after soaking them in solutions of different dissociations, and determining the percent weight change. Then van t Hoff s Law was used to calculate the water potential of the potatoes. The water potential of the potatoes soaked in sodium chloride was 5.67, glucose was 5.92, and sucrose was 5.66. These results do not agree with van t Hoff s Law. INTRODUCTION This experiment examined the relationship between different concentrations of sodium chloride, glucose and sucrose, and potato tissue. The water potential was estimated through a series of steps leading us to find the point at which the percent weight change of the potatoes was zero, then using van t Hoff s law to calculate the osmotic potential. It is known that 85% of patients who get emphysema smoke, but not all smokers will develop emphysema depending on their genetics. Dow Corning s principal businesses were silicone materials and polycrystalline silicon. In the early 1960 s Dow Corning supplied Texas plastic surgeons Frank Gerow and Thomas Cronin with silicone for their medical implant device research. Gerow and Cronin, using Dow Corning silicone, invented the first silicone breast implant as a device to aid women who had undergone mastectomies. At that time, the Food and Drug Administration had no regulations governing implantable devices. Companies like Dow Corning had to determine the safety of devices on their own. The surgeons conducted clinical trials of the implant prior to product introduction in 1964. • 14. Technology Has Changed Our Lives Today It s hard to imagine living our day to day lives without music. It is everywhere, and it has changed in more ways than one over the last ten, twenty years. More accurately, the way we listen and enjoy to it has changed, thanks to technology s massive influence on the way that we live our lives today. With most things there s both the good and the bad, and this situation is no different. But I believe that technology is causing so much more chaos than calm for the modern music and entertainment industry. Music has become so easy to access and listen to, thanks to advances in technology. We now have the ability to listen to music, on demand, at any time, and anywhere we go. It s in our pockets, on our iPods, on our phones, tablets and laptops. We can listen to music on free to air on television and radio. We can pull out a device, press play, and have music right there at our fingertips. Although this appears to be positive for the consumer, meaning that there is more music available for them to enjoy with increased accessibility, the effect on record labels and artists is somewhat negative. Gone are the days where you would save up your money to purchase the $20 CD from the record store, just to get that one song you loved. There are still people who will purchase vinyl records and CDs for the purpose of having a collection, but as a whole, consumers aren t purchasing and stockpiling music like they once used to. The real human drummer was replaced with electronic computer machines during the eighties and nineties for a while, but music fans realized that this was not as good as the sound of a real talented drummer. The drummer does not just support the band they hold it up and push the forward. Robert Plant, the lead singer of Led Zeppelin was very fond of his drummer, John Bonham, who was one of the best drummers out there during his time and even today. It takes so much patience and practice to become a good enough drummer to even be in a band. It is also imperative to know how much work goes into becoming the drummer because some fans may view the drummer as just the guy or girl in the background where they need to realize how a band cannot be a band without the drummer. This paper will discuss the prevailing Canadian debate of whether the federal government should have greater authority on administering health care. Essentially, Canada s health care program referred to as Medicare, is administered by the provinces while regulated by the federal government through the Canada Health Act of 1984. One side of the debate, using the political theory of pluralism, argues against federal leadership and instead emphasizes for provincial authority on matters of health care since Canada is inherently composed of individuals with differing interests and values. The political elites also acknowledged that it would be in their best interests to respond to group demands. Barker s second contention states that provinces can provide the best quality health care according to their demographics and socioeconomic factors. Through a pluralist approach, Barker argues that various interest groups exist that want to play a role in the decision making of national programs to meet their own needs and therefore diversities can be best accommodated when provinces lead social programs. However, an institutionalist approach can critique the pluralist contentions made by Barker. Regarding his legal contention, it can be argued that the distribution of power on health care depicted in the constitution is outdated since there were vast divisions between English and French physicians as well as differing health and religious practices during the 1800s. How Does Didion Create Tension In Los Angeles Notebook In Joan Didion s essay Los Angeles Notebook, she uses multiple rhetorical devices to shift a reader from tension, to urgency, and finally to manifestation in order to convey that supernatural elements and their repercussions have the ability to influence an individual s actions and emotions. Primarily, Joan Didion introduces the reader to an aura of tension in her essay using foreboding, apprehensive diction and short syntax representing how the winds affect the people they touch, even before they literally reach them. Didion exemplifies foreboding diction in the opening paragraph by using the words uneasy, tension, unnatural, and stillness, which paint an apprehensive picture by their apposition. The mixture of ideas presented by these thinkers is exactly what Putin needs to unite the legacies of both the Russian and Soviet empires into a solid path dependant ideology. This was because having more than one ruler can hold together an empire or countries better than one ruler. The princes had control of the government in their areas, and the Pope had control of the entire religion in Western Europe. Having the Pope and the princes dealing with separate issues is better than having just one emperor deal with all of their issues. Another difference of the two halves of Europe was the monasteries and nunneries. Western Europe believed that they should have both priests and nuns teaching and preaching to other people. The Byzantine Empire did not feel that nuns were needed in their empire to preach and to teach other people. This was the most likely cause for the many people in the empire converting to their barbaric enemies religions. If The Byzantine Empire had used nuns to preach and teach their people, instead of having just priests and monasteries, the people would not have converted the their enemies. In order to be influential, the law is to be professed as both certain and predictable, and also flexible and fair. Specifically, it needs clear rules on the one hand, but flexibility on the other to produce exceptions to cases that lead to apparently incongruous or unjust conclusions if the rules are applied rigidly. In A G v Blake, the House of Lords authorized the equitable remedy of account of profits for an assertion for violation of contract where the common law remedy of damages would have been insufficient. The equitable remedy of account of profits is usually accessible where there is a fiduciary relationship but the House of Lords endorsed its request otherwise in exceptional cases where it was the operative way to remedy a wrong.
