Essay on Three Portrayals of Climate Change
Three Portrayals of Climate Change
You are what you eat. We ve all heard the old saying, reminding us that what we take in, we can t help
but manifest. A similar axiom might apply to other things we take in, like information. Granted, you
are what you read, hear, and/or watch just doesn t have the same ring to it, but it s operating along the
same lines.
But, in yet another difference between humans and food, (P1) creative artists use a variety of
techniques to influence how we take in what they are telling us. By creative artists I mean writers,
directors, and performers, and more specifically I refer to those involved in the works The Day After
Tomorrow (DAT), An Inconvenient Truth (AIT), and Field Notes from a Catastrophe. ... Show more

In the beginning, it is possible that this movie was originally intended to do some good. Though
Hollywood reeks of opportunistic capitalism, many of the writers and directors probably had some
truly artistic roots and intentions deep inside them somewhere, at some time. But ultimately, any
semblance of respectably artistic, persuasive, or credible characteristics were horribly mutated in the
name of sensationalism.
The idea for DAT may have been centered on climate change, but the writers quickly tacked on a love
story, dad son issues, crappy science, and man hunting wolves on top of the instantly induced ice age
plot. As such, the movie sacrificed an originally plausible appeal to environmentalism for people who
like a little less talk, a little more action.
The movie was not all bad. One interesting technique was to cast the concept of climate change as
inducing colder temperatures. I think that one of the leading reasons that global warming is not being
confronted more forcefully is that seriously people generally like warm weather. And, in an extra twist
of irony, the nations that are contributing the most greenhouse gases to the earth s atmosphere are
generally in cooler climates, where

My Most Memorable Moment
Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points
against an opponent, to me, it s simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment
happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ). I
and some of my fencing class entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which took
place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the gym, I
was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The tournament took
place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections for multiple matches )
was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows of seats on both side of
the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second floor where you could get a
bird s eye view of the whole gym.
I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable. My
most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the
experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was
completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone s father. Still, he seems rather confident and
has the tough look of an ex military guy, so I m appropriately intimidated. The First touch was a parry
riposte or a stalemate with two hits on both sides leaving the round up to

Critical Review Of The Dns Implementation

Critical Review of the DNS Implementation
Y1467128
Abstract A critical Review of the Domain Name system, the primary naming service currently in use
on the internet, covering the impetus for, and process of its development; how it operates including
communication paradigms, failure models and fault tolerance, and masking; and how its security
requirements are met.
Index Terms Communication systems Computer Networks Domain Name System.
I. INTRODUCTION
D
NS (the domain name system), provides the name service that is used across the internet. It is a
distributed, hierarchical name space, which makes use of partitioning, replication and caching, to
provide a very reliable service with fast access times. Partitions of it may be managed by separate
authorities, allowing local control for more flexibility. The aim of DNS is to enable resources (e.g.
computers, mail services, and DNS servers) to be given names that can be used globally across all
connected systems, and to enable resolution of names into the associated attribute: resolution of URIs
(uniform resource identifiers) into IP addresses for use with http, or ftp protocols, and to locate the
mail servers for a domain.
II. HISTORY PREDECESSOR AND DEVELOPMENT MOTIVATION
The predecessor of DNS, which was the original internet naming scheme, worked by storing all of the
names and addresses addresses were the only type of attribute allowed by this system in a single
central text file (HOSTS.TXT) managed by the

Compare And Contrast Lamb To The Slaughter And The Signalman
Initially, both writers in the story of Lamb to the Slaughter and The Signal Man are written in a gothic
style and suspense is created through the use of language devices. In The Signalman written by
Charles Dickens, the author himself uses sensory, effects and adjectives to build suspense likewise in
The Lamb to the Slaughter written by Roald Dahl, the author uses figurative language, dramatic irony
and most importantly insanity which bring in the suspense to the story. Both writers create suspense in
Lamb to the Slaughter and The Signalman is also by the tension throughout the story where in The
Signalman, it is a traditional literature where it tends to be more elitist while in the Lamb to the

In Lamb to the Slaughter for example, Mrs. Maloney looking at the clock shows how she is impatient
and how she is waiting for someone to come while in the story of The Signalman, the tension is
created in a manner when the signalman is telling the narrator his past memories of when he encounter
several deaths in the train s tunnel. In similarity, both Dickens and Dahl use objects to also create
suspense in their story for example the danger light gives us the impression of a warning; danger while
Dahl uses table lamps, two tall glasses, clock, to give the reader the feeling of what is like to be in a
peaceful home and the murder weapon which is the leg of lamb is shown as the meat that is to be

Alcoholism
Imagine you are at a family wedding reception where there is alcohol being served. As the night
progresses you notice your Uncle Bob frequenting the bar in the corner of the room for nearly one
drink after another. He is reaching his limit for liquor he can handle, and you notice him acting
increasingly disoriented, obnoxious, and tipsy. The rest of your family watches him as he virtually
makes a fool out of himself and comments about him fill the room. He has always been drinking way
too much since his days in the frat house at the university, states one relative. He is just like his father,
comments another. Such a story sparks a debate as to the foundation of alcoholism. Merriam
Webster s Dictionary defines alcoholism as continued ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the affect of low social status is to increase the risk of alcohol abuse for all people.
(Steen 210) There are undoubtedly numerous factors that may influence a person to become an
alcoholic, and it must be kept in mind that under the right circumstances everyone is prone to
addiction.
Although environmental factors are a key issue for alcoholism, genetics are also a factor of the
disease. Researchers often agree that the link between certain chromosomes and alcoholism are
present in the brain. Researchers describe the areas on the chromosomes as hot spots because they
probably contain hundreds of different genes that contribute to an increased risk for alcoholism.
(Marcotty 25) In addition to such hot spots, R. Grant Steen, author of DNA and Destiny: Nature and
Nurture in Human Behavior, states that there is a strong correlation between the A1 allele (a dopamine
receptor) and alcoholism in human beings. The allele was more commonly found in the brain tissue of
alcoholics than in non alcoholics. Having discovered that presence of the allele, scientists drew the
conclusion that the A1 allele was one of the best indicators that certain genetic aspects can influence
the tendency to become alcoholic. In some form or genetics play a certain role in the disease. If

My Observation Of Carrie Henderson
While on patrol, I observed a silver passenger car traveling on Aster Ave with an expired tag as of
2015. I performed a traffic stop on the vehicle, with the final being in front of 516 Hubbard Street. I
asked the driver, Carrie Henderson, for her drivers license. Henderson then advised that she didn t
have one .Henderson also advised that her license was suspended. Upon my first approach, I then
smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her expelled breath. I then observed a
open beer can and a cup of liquor sitting in the cup holder. Henderson did state that she had drunk 5
beers earlier. I asked Henderson to perform the following test: HGN, Walk Turn, One Leg Stand and
Finger Count Test. Henderson stated that she did have medical problems but she was not physically ...

difficulties following instructions. Henderson also started the test without being promt to do so.
Henderson was then asked to perform the One Leg Stand test. Hederson was unable to lift her feet off
the ground completely and unable to follow instructions. Henderson foot hit the ground 5 times in a 15

Critically Examine the Geopolitics of Humanitarian Aid...
Critically examine the geopolitics of humanitarian aid within the 21st century.
How have responses to famine changed over time and what are the key challenges to famine
prevention today?
Geopolitics have played a huge role in humanitarian aid in the current century. Because humanitarian
aid is largely sponsored by western countries it poses a huge problem in the form of a parochial form
of theorizing 1 that supports the interests of the richest countries of the world. For the purpose of this
essay I will begin by examining the problems that have arisen in the most recent years of humanitarian
aid assistance. This arises from conditional aid, whereby donor countries or organizations impose
conditions in order for recipient countries to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cases such as Iraq and Afghanistan the United States military assumed a huge role for the
distribution of disaster and humanitarian assistance alongside their military objectives. If foreign
militaries are carrying out humanitarian aid alongside military objectives, then there is no way that aid
can be supplied to whoever is in need in ways that are impartial, neutral and independent. This new
system whereby foreign militaries are responsible for supplying aid has created huge security
problems for not only the military, but for the people who are receiving aid. Opposing factions to
foreign military time and time again in Afghanistan and Iraq have targeted civilians receiving aid to
further their own agenda. 7
These are the problems that exist in the humanitarian aid industry today, but these problems have
developed over a course of many years and responses to famine and humanitarian disasters have
evolved over time. Thirty years ago disaster relief and humanitarian aid were not considered to be of
huge significance on a geopolitical scale. During the 70 s and 80 s although humanitarian crisis
existed, the geopolitics was more focused on the cold war and respecting the sovereignty of nation
states. Although crisis in Africa, East Pakistan and Guatemala (to name a few) were made aware

Sustainable Agriculture Is Important Industry All Over The...
We often forget where our food comes from and how much time and energy goes into what we eat.
Our awareness doesn t stray far from grocery stores and their orderly aisles of products ready for
consumption. With this ease of availability, It s hard for most to imagine the lengthy process that goes
into something like a simple sandwich. On a larger scale, agriculture is an important industry all over
the globe. And the effects it has on the environment and consumers are seen everywhere from
inefficient water usage, harmful herbicides, soil nutrient depletion, to deforestation and harmful or
unregulated produce, which is why sustainable agriculture is so important. It makes senses for us as
customers to understand the effects our food industry has, because whether or not you ve stepped foot
in a field, your money is the driving impact on which farms and their techniques will continue or
cease.
Sustainable agriculture is the process of increasing yields without depleting resources or harming the
environment. As the world population quickly grows, the need for better farm management becomes a
global concern. From a small vegetable garden or a rice farm all the way too large industry producers,
agriculture is everywhere as are the people that require it. Agronomy counts for a large portion of our
human consumption and directly impacts our resources and environment. Considering we all need
food and a thriving planet, improving management of agriculture with efficiency and green

1. In your judgment, is H.B. Fuller morally responsible for the addiction of street children to its
Resistol products? In my opinion, H.B. Fuller is not morally responsible for the addiction of street
children to its Resistol products. A corporation is morally responsible only for those acts and their
foreseen injurious effects: (a) which the corporation knowingly and freely performed or brought about

Do you agree or disagree with the statement that the social condition in Honduras and Guatemala are
responsible for misuse of H.B. Fuller s products and that neither the products nor the company is to
blame? The social condition is certainly a main cause; but it does not necessarily take all of the causal
blame. Not only does the social condition factor into the misuse of Fuller s products but also does the
economic factor relate to the issue. The economic condition is certainly not the sole bearer of cause for
the misuse of Fuller s products, either. There are certain players in this unfortunate epidemic that have
not been taken into account. These variables include the retailers, middlemen, and corrupt distributors
who most likely made a profit from selling the glue to the children on the streets. In addition, there
was management among the subsidiary companies who helped produce this product that must have
been aware of this pertinent issue. Who is to say that management never tried to resolve anything, or
even bring up the issue? They probably did, but nothing drastic as cancellation of their product ever
came of it. All in all, the social and economic conditions in Guatemala and Honduras were the primary
reasons why the children resorted to a medium of venting, namely H.B. Fuller s product. Could the
company and its products have intervened to help the dilemma?

Jourdon Anderson s Letter To Former Slavery
Jourdon Anderson a former slave who was freed from a Tennessee plantation, responded to Colonel
P.H. Anderson his former master letter wanting him to return to his estate was eloquently written as he
expresses his feeling, thoughts and memory. One would think that a slave who is assumed illiterate
and having no formal education would not be able to pen such a letter. In my opinion, Jourdon
response is a reflection of the precise sentiments of many freed slaves during the period of black
reconstruction. He expresses relief that he had not been forgotten you had not forgotten Jordon and
that his slave master who treated him so badly would want to do better promising to do better for me

A Critical Analysis Of The Uk s Compensation Culture
A critical analysis of the UK s Compensation Culture
Does UK law encourage people to blame and claim ?
Compensation culture is a culture where individuals try to get compensation for any loss, damage, or
suffering caused by another individual. This commonly stretches to include incidents that have weak
or insubstantial links between the claimant and defendant (Horsey and Rackley 2009). Lord Falconer
the former Lord Chancellor defines compensation culture as
...a catch all expression... it s the idea that for every accident someone is at fault. For every injury,
someone to blame. And, perhaps most damaging, for every accident, there is someone to pay (Lord
Falconer, 2005). This essay will briefly explain negligence and its elements and will further critically
analyse the UK compensation culture and discuss whether it exist, or whether it is a perception created
by the media. This essay will further discuss whether the UK laws encourage people to blame and
claim and what the UK law has done to prevent an increase in the compensation culture. The tort of
negligence was established with the leading case of Donoghue v Stevenson (1932) . Donoghue got
sick from having a drink in a café after finding a snail in the bottle. Around this time, there was no
route for litigation due to no contractual association. The only contractual commitment was with
Donoghue s friend who bought the drink and the café owner. Lord Atkin quoted the Bible s principle

Differences Between Europeans And Americans
In this time era it is easy to tell that the Europeans was the strongest and best when in comparism to
the Americans and Africans. Sure there may have been a couple of systems where they were the same
but the Europeans were superior in every way. In fact this was the reason why took over the
Americans and Africans and taking thier goods. The political, economic, and religous system of the
europeans was the best and that s why after contact the Americans and Africans had to follow the
Euoropean ways. The first system that I am going to talk about is the political system. All three
countries actually have a very similar system and that is being ruled by monarchs. The only difference
is that the Americans and Africans are living like Indians. The Europeans on the other hand are living
more like civilized people who then venture out and ecounter themselves with the Americans and
Africans. Also instead of one big country like Spain and Portuguel they are ... Show more content on

All three of these countries pretty much had the same system going on. They all had some sort of trade
route going on and had some wealth. The only difference really was agriculture. The Africans and
Americans would start planting depending on the season. The Europeans would usually have serfs or
servitudes grow crops and raise livestock to trade for goods or to have stored. The last system I am
going to talk about is the religous system. This is where most of the differences will come. The
Americans and Africans had the same thing in common and that is that they were either animists or
had no religion at all. Also they would respect the spirits that had died and offered sacrifices to make
their hunt or crops successful. Africa however had a few muslims come from Europe and had
converted them into Islams while others were converted in Christians. Most of the Europeans were
Christian but there were a few muslims previously mentioned that had went the Sahara to convert

How Did Dorothy Height Contribute To The Women s Rights...
Greatness is not measured by what a man or woman accomplishes, but by the opposition that he or she
has overcome to reach his goals. This powerful quote by Dorothy Height illuminates the value of
living to your fullest potential despite your circumstances and the limits that have been set for you.
Being an African American woman in the early to mid 1900s, Dorothy Height had an abundance of
obstacles to face and overcome. During this time, African Americans and women were still fighting to
earn their natural rights. Height was a key figure in both the civil rights and women s rights
movements, often even called the godmother of the women s movement . She did not conform to the
limitations of society; she refused to accept the idea that she should be restricted based on her race or
sex.
For more than six decades, Height worked as an activist focused on improving the lives of African
Americans and women. She is acknowledged as one of the first to consider these two concerns
indivisible, combining issues that had previously been thought largely separate. She did not allow the
restrictive boundaries set before her to prevent her from reaching her full potential. She attended
racially integrated schools in a time when this idea was widely unaccepted. She desired to attend
college and was accepted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She continually broke through barriers set by society, not allowing anyone to encumber her. Her
contributions to civil rights had a substantial impact on the movement to equality. One of the qualities
that allowed her to do so was her strong ability to lead. As an aspiring entrepreneur, I strive to embody
the same leadership characteristics that she did. She had the ability and courage to represent her
community in a positive way and shine light on issues that needed to be addressed. Height s
perseverance and unwillingness to accept the boundaries set for her make her an inspiration to me as

It grabbed my attention that Morrie has reached a thinking style, which differs from the concepts of
materialism that most people in this society believe in. He wondered why some people spend their
lives doing trivial things, such as chasing celebrities and making money only to spend it on things
void of any meaning. Morrie talked about the value of love among people and said, Love each other or
perish . In the end, Morrie began to cry. He did not cry because he was afraid of his inevitable death
but he cried because he did not cry when his mother passed and because his father died before he
could tell him that he loved him. Morrie s ideal day was not a day on the beach in Hawaii, but a day
with his family.
Tuesdays with Morrie is a very interesting book and a very valuable piece of writing. It tells a true
story which we can learn greatly from. Lessons expressed in this book include the importance of love
and relationships, accepting what we are able to do and what we are not, learning to forgive ourselves
and to forgive others, and the fact that it is never too late to start

Technological Advancements to the Field of Mining
Part 1 Mining is a process used to extract minerals that cannot be gotten through farming or
agricultural techniques. It is the removal of elements found in the earth through several techniques.
Some of these elements include Iron ore, copper, gold, silver, oil (crude oil), coal, tin, uranium, etc.
Mining is described as the beginning of industrial and technological advancement. Mining started
hundreds of years ago. The oldest known cave is the Lion Cave in Swaziland. Swaziland is one of the
smallest countries in Africa, located in the southern part of the continent. Radiocarbon dating has
traced the rocks in the cave to forty three thousand years ago. Swaziland is also one of the world
producers of iron ore. Before civilization, iron ore was mined to produce pigment . This was a type of
paint at the time. (Monacorarecoins, 2013)
The mining industry comes with several myths. Myths such as it is a male based industry and depicts
them working hard with shovels and other digging equipment in dark holes. This is far from reality
because most mine workers do not work underground. The mining cycle includes operations and
processing, exploration, development, and mine closures. Health and safety is important to the mining
industry. Different countries and districts have different codes. The first code was drafted in 1992. The
value chain of mining has evolved over time from the 18th century until today. In the 18th century
(Pre 1900) the mining industry had the

child s placement in the family after a certain period of time has passed? All of these variables can be

In the case we are asked to look at with the two little girls, the office was alerted due to neglect and

discipline. Again having a large amount of experience with this personally I can speak on several
different instances in which the agency needs to be involved. My middle son, again who is not my
biological child, has 4, soon to be 6 other half siblings by his biological mother. None of which she
has custody of. They have all been removed by CPS. In her case it was for the use of narcotics, in and
around the children as well as during pregnancy with 4 of the 6 children she has. She is currently
pregnant with number 5 and 6 of her living children though technically they are 9 and 10. She has
previously had two singleton abortions and an abortion of a set of twin girls. She has had 4 other boys
removed now, ages 5, 3, and a set of twin boys who are 18 months. CPS has already stated that the
children she is pregnant with now will be removed as well upon their birth. So in a case such as hers,
she was given a year to prove to the courts that she wanted to work towards keeping her twins, they
set up visitation for her at the cps office, as well as classes for her to attend, weekly drug screens,
parenting classes, and set financial goals she had to meet.

As multifaceted the word is, there have been ad nauseum amount of arguments regarding what it is
and how it relates to the physical (arguable by idealism) body. This age old topic of discussion have
presented to the public few theories and among them is materialism. Materialism, closely related to
physicalism, states that mind equals the brain; Everything can be fully explained by how the brain
functions. Materialism is associated with reductionism in that the theory simplifies the concept of
mind to neurophysiological terms. Thomas Nagel critiques this notion in his essay What Is It Like To
Be a Bat? (1974). Although he himself believes in materialism, Nagel denies that it was the absolute
solution to the mind body problem. He argues that materialist theories of mind omit the essential
component: what it is like for an organism to be it. The subjective character of conscious experience
can not be understood by anyone outside of the beholder of the consciousness and therefore
undermines reductionists effort to explain consciousness objectively. Accordingly, Nagel concludes
that is the limit of imagination. The clone and I will have exactly the same brain that has encoded my
entire life up to that point. Nevertheless, expecting to read her mind or speak verbatim on her behalf
would be unrealistic. My ability to understand my duplicate is restricted to what I know

A Small Nips And The Bloody Chamber
Luce Irigaray in Women on the Market, put forth the theory that our own culture, is based upon the
exchange of women and that women are relegated to three social roles. Those roles are mother, virgin,
prostitute (807,8). She then states that the enigmatic character of women comes from the form of the
needs /desires of man (806). We are mother or prostitute determinate on man s need. She also argued
that man s libido is another name for the abstraction of energy in a productive power (806). Men use
their libido to control nature. She then argues that another name for the subordination of the specific
qualities of bodies to a neutral power that aims above all to transform them, to possess them (806).
Men transform women to his need, hence the role of mother or prostitute, and thus possess them. In
Frida Kahlo s painting, A Few Small Nips and in Angela Carter s shorty story The Bloody Chamber,
both share the theme of death as transformation for man to possess the main characters.
In Frida Kahlo s painting, A Few Small Nips, a woman lies mostly naked on white sheets. She has on
one high heeled shoe, and a rumpled sock. She has been sliced and poked by the knife that the man
standing above her is holding. The sheets are covered in blood, her body is covered in blood, and the
floor is covered in the blood. The woman is clearly dead, and the man standing above her is relaxed,
pleased, with his left hand resting comfortably in his pocket. The expression on the man s

economic flourishing especially in its openness to foreign direct investments. As of 2011, the share of
the self employed among the employed population is 3%, which is considerably low in comparison to
countries in the region such as Jordan (16%) and Lebanon (35%) (17). Almost 93% of the Emirati
population are working in the public sector 28% of whom are women with the majority being male
employees (17). Another important GCC specific element to put in mind when discussing employment
is the percentage of non nationals who contribute to the working population. This explains why the
majority of entrepreneurs in the UAE are not Emirati nationals (18). With the high number of
employment in the public sector given many incentives such as high salaries, job security, benefits and
flexibility entrepreneurship remains the path less crossed due to the risks involved with taking the
initiative (17). In the UAE, there are three important entities that have a strong influence on the
progress of entrepreneurship and they are the government, the educational institutions, and the private
sector. Another UAE specific element of doing business is the legal bureaucracy that pushes non local
entrepreneurs especially to set up their start ups in the many free zones which in turn require high
business license fees, along with restrictions on the number of visas given (18). The government of the

Water Is The True Gold Standard For Currency
Water is the source of all life on earth and continues to provide health, wealth and prosperity to all but
what happens when water becomes scarce? What would happen if majority of the water on earth is
polluted? Are we regulating the amount of water consumed? As a whole are we as efficient as possible
when water is used? The food industry thrives off of water which also plays a hand in water
consumption. We need to question the tradeoffs between water consumption and food production and
how we can improve water productivity worldwide. I believe water is the true gold standard for
currency; as a business management major I intend to understand how the world economy works in
conjunction with global patterns of water productivity which is food produced per unit of water
consumed. The Congressional Digest reported On May 27, 2015, the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) jointly announced a final rule defining
the scope of waters protected under the Clean Water Act (CWA). The rule revises regulations that have
been in place for more than 25 years, Revisions were proposed in March 2014 in light of U.S.
Supreme Court rulings in 2001 and 2006. The rulings interpreted the regulatory scope of the CWA
more narrowly than the agencies and lower courts were then doing and created uncertainty about the
appropriate scope of waters protected under the CWA. Most environmental advocacy groups
welcomed the proposed guidance, which would more

Cognitive Neuroscience
For the last three decades, there has been significate improvement, interest, and understating on how
the brain decodes and processes daily information. This increase from the field of neuroscience and
education, has helped us expand our understanding of the neural chemistry, physiology, and growth
processes that support behavior, cognition, language, emotion, sociality, and their development
(Hruby, Goswami, Frederiksen, Perfetti, 2011). The recent advances in cognitive neuroscience has
caught the attention of educators. Naturally, people interested in learning and education might want to
know how results from relevant cognitive neuroscience research could be applied in the classroom
(Ansari, Coch, Smedt, 2011).

At the bottom back of the brain is where the occipital lobes are located; they are covered by the visual
cortex. This area of the brain is involved in object recognition and is an area of interest in research on
decoding, because it has been suggested to house a word form area. This area is a part of the visual
cortex specialized for recognizing print (Hruby, Goswami, Frederiksen, Perfetti, 2011). As we move
upward, we encounter the parietal lobes. These lobes are responsible for receiving tactile information
such as temperature, pain, and pressure, and integrate this information with sights and sounds (Wolf
Nevills, 2008). The temporal lobes, are covered by the auditory cortex. This area is responsible for
taking in and interpreting auditory stimuli (Wolf Nevills, 2008). Within the temporal lobes lies the
area where speech and memory are produced. These two areas are Wernicke s area and the
Hippocampus. Wernicke s area is the semantic processing center and is a key component of conscious
comprehension of the spoken words (Wolf Nevills, 2008). The hippocampus is where short term
memory is converted to long term memory. According to Zull (2002), the hippocampus does not store
memory itself, instead it finds a way back to various parts of the cortex in a form that is susceptible to
recall, or reassembly, any time later. The last lobes are the frontal lobes. The cortex covering these
lobes is known as the association cortex (Wolf Nevills,

It exists in all of us, whether we have money, opportunities, or advantages. Trouble is, most people
don t recognize this power for what it is. They leave it alone, or maybe they don t even know it s there.
Instead, they buy into the line from people in suits, fancy offices, or business schools who tell us that
there s a certain way to start businesses we need money to jump start our business. But that only
works for a few of us and only for a while. Why? Because, take it from me, the power of broke is all
about substance over flash. It s about creativity over certainty. It s about taking a shot over playing it
safe. And here s another thing: The money runs out after a while. Those deep pockets you may or may
not have, they ll never be deep enough to buy all the passion, ingenuity, and determination it takes to
have success over the long haul. Even if you ve got money behind you, there s no guarantee that it will
see you through. It s the money in front of you that counts, after all. It s the money you need, not the
money you have, that makes all the difference (Daymond 1). Being rich is all purchasing power; I don
t think that being rich should determine one s character. Some folks are rich and stay to their own

However, the relationship of Pierre and Marie completely juxtaposed this social norm of the era. They
worked furiously to isolate polonium and radium and when they were successful credit was given
mainly to Pierre. Originally the Nobel Peace Prize was supposed to be awarded to Henry Becquerel
and Pierre Curie in 1903. Marie Curie would not be credited because it was viewed by the public that
she only assisted Pierre with his experiments. Pierre did not like to be recognized for his work, but
insisted that Marie be credited and be a recipient of the prize which made Marie Curie the first female
recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Tragically, in 1905 Pierre was killed by a truck. This left Marie as a
single parent with three children. In her autobiographical notes of Pierre s biography, she states I have
been frequently questioned, especially by women, how could I reconcile family life with a scientific
career . Eventually, she takes on Pierre s full time job as the Professor general of Physics at Sorbonne.
She continued her studies of radium, focusing on radioactivity which resulted in her win of a second

The Connection Between Western Capitalism And Mexican...
Globalized Violence:
The Connection Between Western Capitalism and Mexican Femicide Globalization: a process of
interaction between the social, economic and political systems of different nations, a process powered
by international trade and investment. Some assert that globalization encourages the spread of more
enlightened and egalitarian Western values and international tolerance, while others believe that this
phenomenon harms more than it helps and fosters an uncontrolled and abusive economic environment.
There is no shortage of opinions on the matter, though one sure point of fact is that globalization
affects all aspects of modern life, including the murky world of gendered violence. Between the
signing of NAFTA in 1992 and the middle of 2002, just shy of three hundred blue collar female
factory workers were murdered in the border town of Juarez, Mexico. However, these numbers are
simply the tip of the iceberg when compared to the four hundred and fifty additional disappearances
during that decade, a grand total that is only increasing with each passing year. In short, these murders
eventually sparked international intrigue and distress, forcing the world to take a closer look at some
of the uglier consequences of globalization. Essentially, the femicides of Juarez are simply a symptom
of a patriarchal society unconcerned with the lives of its workforce, a culture that values products
more than the people who produce them: the overlapping timelines of the Juarez

The similarities are few but there is still some. Both of the North and South states were very racist

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Chronic Bronchitis Essay
1. What clinical findings correlate with M.K. s chronic bronchitis? What type of treatment and

Chronic bronchitis is caused by inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes. These tubes carry
oxygen to and from the alveoli of the lungs.
Clinical findings that correlate with M.K. s chronic bronchitis include:

The Pledge of Allegiance Essay
At the beginning of each day in many public and private schools around the country, students stand
and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. In fact, 35 states have passed laws mandating that the Pledge be
recited on a daily basis. This issue has been a source of controversy for years. On one side of the
argument exists families and educators who believe in the citizenship and patriotism that reciting the
Pledge brings (Chiodo, 2011). On the opposing side, families and educators argue the possible threat
to an individual s First Amendment freedoms. Before analyzing the above described controversy, we
must first examine the history of the Pledge itself. Written by Francis Bellamy, it was originally titled

Author Laurie Bennett explains that, In the aftermath [...] people were hungry for social rituals and
eager to communicate a deeper sense of national belonging. They looked for symbols and rituals that
could unite them and forge bonds of community anew (Bennett, 2004). One such ritual was the Pledge
of Allegiance, which President George Bush led the entire nation in just days after 9/11. Many state
legislatures also looked for ways to access strength and unity by integrating themes of patriotism into
the public schools. This increased emphasis on patriotic exercise, although stemming somewhat from
the 9/11 crisis, also came from other sources as well. Many authors and policymakers have expressed
concern about the decline in civil engagement or attention to public life in the U.S. population
generally, and among young people in particular. A Subcommittee on Civic Education of the federal
judiciary has noted that a high level of civic disengagement, especially among the young, demands a
re commitment to education for active and effective citizenship (Bennett, 2004). Therefore, many state
governments have embraced the mandating of the Pledge in order to accomplish such a
recommitment. Supporters of daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in classrooms claim that the
rote and compulsory aspects of the Pledge are in fact beneficial. They see the rote recitation of the

Globalization, which is the international integrations of people, economics, and culture, has changed
the world. Cultural globalization is a phenomenon by which the experience of everyday life, as
influenced by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, reflects a standardization of cultural expressions
(Watson 2016, para.1). Many people believe that their culture is under fire by cultural globalization
and the birth of the new global village. One such example of this is the case of the Canadian Magazine
Dispute of the 1990 s.
Canada believes magazines to be an integral part of their culture and media. The Canadian
government, in an effort to protect this aspect of its culture, began imposing tariffs on foreign
magazines. This began in the 1920 s and in the 60 s began prohibiting split run editions of foreign
magazines (The Levin Institute 2016, para.3). In the 90 s, and the boom in information technology,
this all came to a head. American publishers began publishing split run editions with some Canadian
content. They were printed in Canada via electronic transmission. Canada, who was angered over this
loophole and in an effort to protect its magazine industry, raised the ... Show more content on

Famine From A Socioeconomic Theoretical Lens
According to Kutzner, author of world hunger, there is enough food to feed everyone in the world.
With much of the world s agriculture being produced out of developing countries, (Kutzner), the root
causes of starvation is within the economic and political factors keeping countries in poverty.
Although natural catastrophes and environmental problems for food production have contributed to
the food security issue in third world countries such as Ethiopia and Malawi, the Famine crisis in these
countries is man made, and is ultimately the result of issues including government policies on food
markets and exports. In analyzing the root causes of food insecurity in the two developing countries
Ethiopia and Malawi, I will be focusing on man made famine from a socioeconomic theoretical lens,
focusing on factors such as population, employment, and poverty. I have come to the hypothesis that
famine in these two countries is made made due to the policies that keep these countries from
modernizing. I predict that due to the current economic conditions, the issue will not be resolved any
time soon.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines food security as existing when all people at all times
have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life (who.com). The
basic elements of food security includes having a large enough food supply to meet nutritional needs,
as well as having the access to attain this food (Kutzner). In a wider perspective,

In the last decades of the Victorian period, East London was predominantly inhabited by the working
classes. The working classes mainly consisted of the native English population, Irish immigrants, and
immigrants belonging to Central and Eastern Europe and German Jews, many of whom were living in
extreme poverty and great numbers of these immigrants were residing in Whitechapel. It can be
suggested through research, that the Whitechapel murders helped historians to develop their
understanding about the viewpoint that many people had in regards to immigrants, specifically those
who belonged to the working class. This can be demonstrated through the fact that although there was
no evidence to prove that the killer was a person who belonged to the Jewish community, a number of
newspapers continued to broadcast and support the view that the murders were foreign in character.
Historian, Blair, writes, the exacerbated pre existing anti Semitism and put Jews in an unfortunate

Loyalty Program Trends Within Retail
Loyalty Program Trends in Retail A loyalty program is a reward based program that is offered by a
company to their customers who make purchases frequently. Loyalty programs have been known to
gain customers more coupons, exclusive access to certain sales, free promotions, and much more.
Many different organizations and stores have created different types of loyalty programs for their
customers over the years. These programs are important to prospective customers in gaining their
loyalty so that they may shop at their store as opposed to another local competitor. Having various
stores with these programs is also beneficial to the customer because stores are constantly competing
against each other. Stores over the years, especially during holiday seasons, are always trying to outdo
their competitors to get you the lowest price possible and them the most sales. Many stores have now
introduced price match where you can bring in a local competitor s ad and they will honor the same
price in their store. This is a great way to bring in customers because the price is no problem if it is
easily adjusted. Stores that you go to every day such as Target, Walmart, Kmart, BestBuy and Toys R

The Political Orientation And Participation Of Individuals...
The big five is a model that has been used to identify personality traits the have a reflection in the
political orientation and participation of individuals. In this essay I will be arguing that the personality
of individuals has less of an impact on their political behaviour than other factors including age,
gender and socioeconomic status. Research in relation to the big five has shown that there are two
areas of the big five that have more influence than others, I will be discussing why scoring higher on
the openness section of the big five may mean that you are more likely to be a supporter who is more
liberal or on the left of the political spectrum. Contrasting this if you score higher on the
conscientiousness scale you are more likely to be right wing or conservative on the political spectrum.
The big five does not necessarily identify if a person is more likely to vote or not, just solely
orientation so this essay will discuss factors that can change the probability of participation in politics.
The big five is a theory of 5 domains of personality, which dates back to approximately 1884. The five
domains relate to the ideas of openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, emotional stability and
extraversion. Openness, which is mainly in regard to experience, can be defined as breadth, depth,

Our Journey through the City of Paris at Night
Paris is a beautiful city during the day, but at night, it changes. The first thing that is seen are all the

this beautiful tower wherever we stood day or night. My choir group was invited to sing in some of
the cathedrals in Paris. One night after we had a concert and had dinner, our tour guide gave us an
option of either staying on the bus or getting off and taking a tour down the Seine River to see the
Eiffel Tower at night. If we should choose this option, we needed to find a different way back to the
hotel as the bus driver was not going to come back for us. My family and a few others chose to take

Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself Essay
The prevalence of Hegelianism in Walt Whitman s Song of Myself is indisputable, yet a consensus on
the meaning remains elusive, and therefore, insidious to the democratic progress Whitman attempts.
Whitman uses Hegel to support his ideas about the dialectical theory of consciousness, the
spiritualization and importance of art, and America s manifest destiny. I later elucidate on these
categories and break them down into more precise ideas. I use a variety of scholars for evidence of
structural, social, artistic, and spiritual relations in Whitman s Song of Myself and Hegel s The
Phenomenology of Spirit; however, instead of celebrating these achievements, I will focus on the risk
of using Hegel as a way to interpret Whitman. I point out the reasons for both Whitman and Hegel
failing to grasp any actual use on their thoughts on consciousness. Then I proceed to explain why it is
better to focus on Whitman s view on art without using Hegel. Lastly, I showcase the dangers of
Whitman using Hegel s ideas for democratic means. The foremost idea that fails logical scrutiny is the
dialectical theory of consciousness. Hegel states ...Belief in the nothingness of necessity and in the
underworld becomes belief in Heaven because the departed self must unite with its universality, must
explicate in this universality what it contains and thus become clear to itself. (411). Hegel later
expresses his ideas about the how the spirit is conscious of itself in the conscious form (416),

White Slavery Research Paper
White historians in the past described the relationship between slavery in the American South and the
rising political power and economic growth of the United States as i.e. timely unrelated. Furthermore,
white historians believed that slavery had no impact on America s modern economy or

a modern act in society would be to recognize it as something commonplace in that specific day and
age.
2) Allowing slavery to continue and even expand was important to legislators in the late eighteenth
century because expansion increased demand on African slave trade which in turn, increased revenue

7) According to the author, the main attributes of African American music and culture in the early
nineteenth century were because of a common need of survival amongst each other. Music brought
those enslaved a short moment of joy and peace, and much needed time away from their work to
commune and celebrate each other. This culture was often misrepresented and misconstrued by whites
because they attributed the music and dance to African tradition, often using this to justify slavery

SNAP Report Proposal
In a report authored by Kathleen FitzGerald and Emily Holcombe of CBO s Budget Analysis Division
and Molly Dahl and Jonathan Schwabish of CBO s Health and Human Resources Division, the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program (SNAP) and associated costs were explained in detail. At
the point in history that this report was written (2012) Congress was demanding an explanation of the
increased cost of the SNAP program, this report was able to use data to directly link the increased
spending to the unemployment rate, caused by the national economic crisis. The report clearly lays out
how SNAP operates, giving detailed explanation regarding topics such as eligibility, benefit
calculation and distribution, and finally finance and administration.

A Summary On Data Confignancy
noindent Several existing studies employ simulations to explore the impact of node selfishness on
data delivery performance. The authors in cite{EffNonCoo 15} explore the impact of the nodes non
forwarding and partially forwarding actions on the performance of Epidemic, SnW, and Prophet
protocols in terms of the data delivery ratio and delay. The experimental results demonstrate that
DTNs tolerate a high percentage of non cooperative nodes (20 40% or even 60%) without too much
harm, even though they still utilize the other nodes resources to deliver their own messages.
Meanwhile, synthetic random mobility models are most vulnerable to less cooperation that implies
that DTNs are robust against the nodes non cooperative behavior. ... Show more content on

While the works above consider nodes social oblivious selfishness behavior, Bermejo textit{et al.}
cite{EmpiricalAlturistic 13} study human altruism in AppExp and WebExp applications with
respectively 800 and 737 nodes considering the nodes remaining battery level and social tie
information. The experiments show that nodes respectively exhibit 70% and 52% altruistic behavior
in AppExp and WebExp when a minor credit (1 dollar) is awarded. Meanwhile, the nodes are not
willing to relay data received from others when their remaining battery level is less than 10%. Xia
textit{et al.} cite{Sig4UDD 113} explore the impact of IS and SS nodes on social based routing
protocols under uncertain node cooperation. In particular, a signaling game approach (Sig4UDD) is
proposed where Bayesian Nash equilibrium and perfect Bayesian equilibrium are employed to analyze
the nodes one stage and multi stage interactions (Fig. ref{Sig4UDDScheme}). Meanwhile, a belief
system is established to help the nodes predict the type of their encounters and decide whether to
forward a message to them or not. The experimental results demonstrate that nodes in Sig4UDD can
effectively establish their beliefs based on their previous interactions that can decrease the
transmission cost significantly while improving the data delivery delay. Similar to cite{Sig4UDD

Examples Of Age Of Responsibility Essay
Age of Responsibility Age of responsibility. I think the age of responsibility is wherever you prove it
is. Some people do not mature very well some at all. Just like to get a driver s license you have to
prove that when you are in a behind the wheel that you are mature enough to drive on a highway or a
main road and that you have the ability to do it properly. School is also one of the biggest places
where maturity comes into play. In order to show that you have to mind you teachers and show respect
for others and have decent grades. All three of these examples will get carried on even further in this
essay. Lets carry on the school topic first school is the first place that it all starts. When it comes to
respect it needs to be shown everywhere whether it be a teacher a fellow student or even a school
visitor parent, presenter, college instructor etc. It all comes back around some day maybe ... Show

Tobacco and alcohol this also has a law or age limit and it just keeps climbing it used to be you had to
be 18 to buy a pack cigarettes or a bottle of alcohol and that was the gae to drink it as well but people
would abuse the privilege and some just couldnt wait. Fake Ids were in the making and adults buying
for minors. Underage drinking was becoming a problem and so many people would die for making
stupid decisions while using. And those few are the ones that ruin it for the many. Some supporters of
holding the drinking age steady acknowledge that 21, when it comes right down to it is an arbitrary
age. (pg14). That is currently the new law that is in effect is that you can no longer purchase any kind
of alcohol or tobacco until this age limit is meet. But that means there will be even more underage
drinking because the people who could previously purchase the substances can no longer and now
they will not follow the new age restriction and continue to use and potentially abuse the

Why Are Processed Foods So Bad For You Summary
In the article Why Is Processed Foods So Bad for You? the author Michael Hobbes explains what it
takes to manufacture and sell a product (1). He contrasts the ingredients of the original homemade
recipe and the one that is selling on the shelf. He explains that in order for a product to be shipped and
stored for long increments of time, preservatives must be added. Those preservatives may be hurting
people in the long run. Michael Hobbes article achieves to address the situation of processed foods
and the amount of unhealthy preservatives used to keep them.
The main point of the article is summed up by Hobbes thesis ... corporations won t make us healthier
because capitalism makes it impossible for them to do so (1) . This is because every company s goal is
to maximize their profit, even if it means making their product less healthy. Most companies put a
good product on the market, and if it doesn t sell like they expect, then they just add some extra
preservatives. Salt and sugar make it last longer and taste better, but also come ... Show more content

Foods that have been chemically processed and made solely from refined ingredients and artificial
substances, are what is generally known as processed food (2) . If the food doesn t have any added
preservatives or chemicals, then it is real (2). It explains that, people can literally become addicted to
processed junk foods , with all the sugar/high fructose corn syrup, carbohydrates, Trans fats, artificial
ingredients, and lack of nutrients and fiber (6). Most people tend to pick these items over real or
healthy foods because they are more rewarding for their taste buds (3). Although, these choices may
be satisfying at the moment, they can have very serious long term effects which could result in death

The Career As A Software Developer
During this past year, I was fortunate enough to receive a promotion as an IT Manager. However, due
to the number of employees, my main roles are still as an IT support specialist. I understand as we are
a small local business. Currently, we are three member team, including the owner. Soon, I hope to gain
more managerial duties as we bring another person on board. I want armor myself with as much
experience as possible to prepare for the job market. Over the past year, I have seriously been
considering a career as a Software Developer. It s an emerging career with many opportunities. It has
an expected growth of 9 to 13% (15 1133.00, 2016. para. 17). I have only little experience with

It is well known for having the lowest cost of living the United States and a high poverty rate of
32.4% in 2011 (Kurtzleben, 2011. Para. 1). With the area s most employed industries being retail and
food service, there aren t many technology jobs available. Even with the little jobs that are available,
they tend to pay well below the national average. I m in such a case in my current position. I would
like to earn more, however, the local economy doesn t allow for it. I am completely grateful to have
found a job in my field so that I can gain necessary work experience for the future. However, I m
beginning to grow out of my position, and my hometown. I want to be able to stretch my legs and
shoot for the stars in a big city. I ve been wanting to relocate to Austin for the past few years because
of the culture, dog friendly places, and the technology job opportunities. It seems like everyone else
has had the same idea due to the rising housing rates. I ve done some careful thinking and calculating
to ensure the necessary salary to live comfortably in the capital city. With a bachelor s degree, I hope I
can gain the upper edge when applying for a new position. While researching, I also discovered that
San Jose, CA has the highest average potential salary for IT Managers at an astonishing $190,000.
Previously, I hadn t really given much thought to moving out of state, but now I m considering any
city that pays fairly well and matches my

  • 2. Essay on Three Portrayals of Climate Change Three Portrayals of Climate Change You are what you eat. We ve all heard the old saying, reminding us that what we take in, we can t help but manifest. A similar axiom might apply to other things we take in, like information. Granted, you are what you read, hear, and/or watch just doesn t have the same ring to it, but it s operating along the same lines. But, in yet another difference between humans and food, (P1) creative artists use a variety of techniques to influence how we take in what they are telling us. By creative artists I mean writers, directors, and performers, and more specifically I refer to those involved in the works The Day After Tomorrow (DAT), An Inconvenient Truth (AIT), and Field Notes from a Catastrophe. ... Though Hollywood reeks of opportunistic capitalism, many of the writers and directors probably had some truly artistic roots and intentions deep inside them somewhere, at some time. But ultimately, any semblance of respectably artistic, persuasive, or credible characteristics were horribly mutated in the name of sensationalism. The idea for DAT may have been centered on climate change, but the writers quickly tacked on a love story, dad son issues, crappy science, and man hunting wolves on top of the instantly induced ice age plot. As such, the movie sacrificed an originally plausible appeal to environmentalism for people who like a little less talk, a little more action. The movie was not all bad. One interesting technique was to cast the concept of climate change as inducing colder temperatures. I think that one of the leading reasons that global warming is not being confronted more forcefully is that seriously people generally like warm weather. And, in an extra twist of irony, the nations that are contributing the most greenhouse gases to the earth s atmosphere are generally in cooler climates, where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Most Memorable Moment Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points against an opponent, to me, it s simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ). I and some of my fencing class entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which took place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the gym, I was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The tournament took place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections for multiple matches ) was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows of seats on both side of the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second floor where you could get a bird s eye view of the whole gym. I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable. My most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone s father. Still, he seems rather confident and has the tough look of an ex military guy, so I m appropriately intimidated. The First touch was a parry riposte or a stalemate with two hits on both sides leaving the round up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critical Review Of The Dns Implementation  Critical Review of the DNS Implementation Y1467128 Abstract A critical Review of the Domain Name system, the primary naming service currently in use on the internet, covering the impetus for, and process of its development; how it operates including communication paradigms, failure models and fault tolerance, and masking; and how its security requirements are met. Index Terms Communication systems Computer Networks Domain Name System. I. INTRODUCTION D NS (the domain name system), provides the name service that is used across the internet. It is a distributed, hierarchical name space, which makes use of partitioning, replication and caching, to provide a very reliable service with fast access times. Partitions of it may be managed by separate authorities, allowing local control for more flexibility. The aim of DNS is to enable resources (e.g. computers, mail services, and DNS servers) to be given names that can be used globally across all connected systems, and to enable resolution of names into the associated attribute: resolution of URIs (uniform resource identifiers) into IP addresses for use with http, or ftp protocols, and to locate the mail servers for a domain. II. HISTORY PREDECESSOR AND DEVELOPMENT MOTIVATION The predecessor of DNS, which was the original internet naming scheme, worked by storing all of the names and addresses addresses were the only type of attribute allowed by this system in a single central text file (HOSTS.TXT) managed by the ... Although environmental factors are a key issue for alcoholism, genetics are also a factor of the disease. Researchers often agree that the link between certain chromosomes and alcoholism are present in the brain. Researchers describe the areas on the chromosomes as hot spots because they probably contain hundreds of different genes that contribute to an increased risk for alcoholism. (Marcotty 25) In addition to such hot spots, R. How have responses to famine changed over time and what are the key challenges to famine prevention today? Geopolitics have played a huge role in humanitarian aid in the current century. Because humanitarian aid is largely sponsored by western countries it poses a huge problem in the form of a parochial form of theorizing 1 that supports the interests of the richest countries of the world. This new system whereby foreign militaries are responsible for supplying aid has created huge security problems for not only the military, but for the people who are receiving aid. Opposing factions to foreign military time and time again in Afghanistan and Iraq have targeted civilians receiving aid to further their own agenda. 7 These are the problems that exist in the humanitarian aid industry today, but these problems have developed over a course of many years and responses to famine and humanitarian disasters have evolved over time. Thirty years ago disaster relief and humanitarian aid were not considered to be of huge significance on a geopolitical scale. Compensation culture is a culture where individuals try to get compensation for any loss, damage, or suffering caused by another individual. This commonly stretches to include incidents that have weak or insubstantial links between the claimant and defendant (Horsey and Rackley 2009). Lord Falconer the former Lord Chancellor defines compensation culture as ...a catch all expression... it s the idea that for every accident someone is at fault. For every injury, someone to blame. And, perhaps most damaging, for every accident, there is someone to pay (Lord Falconer, 2005). This essay will further discuss whether the UK laws encourage people to blame and claim and what the UK law has done to prevent an increase in the compensation culture. Materialism, closely related to physicalism, states that mind equals the brain; Everything can be fully explained by how the brain functions. Materialism is associated with reductionism in that the theory simplifies the concept of mind to neurophysiological terms. Thomas Nagel critiques this notion in his essay What Is It Like To Be a Bat? (1974). Although he himself believes in materialism, Nagel denies that it was the absolute solution to the mind body problem. He argues that materialist theories of mind omit the essential component: what it is like for an organism to be it. The subjective character of conscious experience can not be understood by anyone outside of the beholder of the consciousness and therefore undermines reductionists effort to explain consciousness objectively. We are mother or prostitute determinate on man s need. She also argued that man s libido is another name for the abstraction of energy in a productive power (806). Entrepreneurship in the UAE Overview The UAE has been known to be a pioneer of change, economic flourishing especially in its openness to foreign direct investments. Almost 93% of the Emirati population are working in the public sector 28% of whom are women with the majority being male employees (17). Another important GCC specific element to put in mind when discussing employment is the percentage of non nationals who contribute to the working population. This explains why the majority of entrepreneurs in the UAE are not Emirati nationals (18). With the high number of employment in the public sector given many incentives such as high salaries, job security, benefits and flexibility entrepreneurship remains the path less crossed due to the risks involved with taking the initiative (17). In the UAE, there are three important entities that have a strong influence on the progress of entrepreneurship and they are the government, the educational institutions, and the private sector. The Congressional Digest reported On May 27, 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) jointly announced a final rule defining the scope of waters protected under the Clean Water Act (CWA). The rule revises regulations that have been in place for more than 25 years, Revisions were proposed in March 2014 in light of U.S. Supreme Court rulings in 2001 and 2006. The rulings interpreted the regulatory scope of the CWA more narrowly than the agencies and lower courts were then doing and created uncertainty about the appropriate scope of waters protected under the CWA. This area of the brain is involved in object recognition and is an area of interest in research on decoding, because it has been suggested to house a word form area. This area is a part of the visual cortex specialized for recognizing print (Hruby, Goswami, Frederiksen, Perfetti, 2011). As we move upward, we encounter the parietal lobes. These lobes are responsible for receiving tactile information such as temperature, pain, and pressure, and integrate this information with sights and sounds (Wolf Nevills, 2008). The temporal lobes, are covered by the auditory cortex. This area is responsible for taking in and interpreting auditory stimuli (Wolf Nevills, 2008). Within the temporal lobes lies the area where speech and memory are produced. These two areas are Wernicke s area and the Hippocampus. Wernicke s area is the semantic processing center and is a key component of conscious comprehension of the spoken words (Wolf Nevills, 2008). The hippocampus is where short term memory is converted to long term memory. According to Zull (2002), the hippocampus does not store memory itself, instead it finds a way back to various parts of the cortex in a form that is susceptible to recall, or reassembly, any time later. The last lobes are the frontal lobes. The cortex covering these lobes is known as the association cortex (Wolf Nevills, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marie Curie would not be credited because it was viewed by the public that she only assisted Pierre with his experiments. Some assert that globalization encourages the spread of more enlightened and egalitarian Western values and international tolerance, while others believe that this phenomenon harms more than it helps and fosters an uncontrolled and abusive economic environment. There is no shortage of opinions on the matter, though one sure point of fact is that globalization affects all aspects of modern life, including the murky world of gendered violence. Between the signing of NAFTA in 1992 and the middle of 2002, just shy of three hundred blue collar female factory workers were murdered in the border town of Juarez, Mexico. However, these numbers are simply the tip of the iceberg when compared to the four hundred and fifty additional disappearances during that decade, a grand total that is only increasing with each passing year. In short, these murders eventually sparked international intrigue and distress, forcing the world to take a closer look at some of the uglier consequences of globalization. They looked for symbols and rituals that could unite them and forge bonds of community anew (Bennett, 2004). One such ritual was the Pledge of Allegiance, which President George Bush led the entire nation in just days after 9/11. Many state legislatures also looked for ways to access strength and unity by integrating themes of patriotism into the public schools. This increased emphasis on patriotic exercise, although stemming somewhat from the 9/11 crisis, also came from other sources as well. Many authors and policymakers have expressed concern about the decline in civil engagement or attention to public life in the U.S. population generally, and among young people in particular. A Subcommittee on Civic Education of the federal judiciary has noted that a high level of civic disengagement, especially among the young, demands a re commitment to education for active and effective citizenship (Bennett, 2004). Cultural globalization is a phenomenon by which the experience of everyday life, as influenced by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, reflects a standardization of cultural expressions (Watson 2016, para.1). Many people believe that their culture is under fire by cultural globalization and the birth of the new global village. One such example of this is the case of the Canadian Magazine Dispute of the 1990 s. Canada believes magazines to be an integral part of their culture and media. The Canadian government, in an effort to protect this aspect of its culture, began imposing tariffs on foreign magazines. This began in the 1920 s and in the 60 s began prohibiting split run editions of foreign magazines (The Levin Institute 2016, para.3). In the 90 s, and the boom in information technology, this all came to a head. American publishers began publishing split run editions with some Canadian content. With much of the world s agriculture being produced out of developing countries, (Kutzner), the root causes of starvation is within the economic and political factors keeping countries in poverty. Although natural catastrophes and environmental problems for food production have contributed to the food security issue in third world countries such as Ethiopia and Malawi, the Famine crisis in these countries is man made, and is ultimately the result of issues including government policies on food markets and exports. In analyzing the root causes of food insecurity in the two developing countries Ethiopia and Malawi, I will be focusing on man made famine from a socioeconomic theoretical lens, focusing on factors such as population, employment, and poverty. I have come to the hypothesis that famine in these two countries is made made due to the policies that keep these countries from modernizing. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines food security as existing when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life (who.com). The working classes mainly consisted of the native English population, Irish immigrants, and immigrants belonging to Central and Eastern Europe and German Jews, many of whom were living in extreme poverty and great numbers of these immigrants were residing in Whitechapel. It can be suggested through research, that the Whitechapel murders helped historians to develop their understanding about the viewpoint that many people had in regards to immigrants, specifically those who belonged to the working class. This can be demonstrated through the fact that although there was no evidence to prove that the killer was a person who belonged to the Jewish community, a number of newspapers continued to broadcast and support the view that the murders were foreign in character. Historian, Blair, writes, the exacerbated pre existing anti Semitism and put Jews in an unfortunate position of being a very convenient scapegoat on which to vent frustrations and fears of the working class (Blair, 1996:490). Loyalty programs have been known to gain customers more coupons, exclusive access to certain sales, free promotions, and much more. Many different organizations and stores have created different types of loyalty programs for their customers over the years. These programs are important to prospective customers in gaining their loyalty so that they may shop at their store as opposed to another local competitor. Having various stores with these programs is also beneficial to the customer because stores are constantly competing against each other. Stores over the years, especially during holiday seasons, are always trying to outdo their competitors to get you the lowest price possible and them the most sales. Many stores have now introduced price match where you can bring in a local competitor s ad and they will honor the same price in their store. In this essay I will be arguing that the personality of individuals has less of an impact on their political behaviour than other factors including age, gender and socioeconomic status. Research in relation to the big five has shown that there are two areas of the big five that have more influence than others, I will be discussing why scoring higher on the openness section of the big five may mean that you are more likely to be a supporter who is more liberal or on the left of the political spectrum. Contrasting this if you score higher on the conscientiousness scale you are more likely to be right wing or conservative on the political spectrum. Whitman uses Hegel to support his ideas about the dialectical theory of consciousness, the spiritualization and importance of art, and America s manifest destiny. I later elucidate on these categories and break them down into more precise ideas. I use a variety of scholars for evidence of structural, social, artistic, and spiritual relations in Whitman s Song of Myself and Hegel s The Phenomenology of Spirit; however, instead of celebrating these achievements, I will focus on the risk of using Hegel as a way to interpret Whitman. I point out the reasons for both Whitman and Hegel failing to grasp any actual use on their thoughts on consciousness. Then I proceed to explain why it is better to focus on Whitman s view on art without using Hegel. Lastly, I showcase the dangers of Whitman using Hegel s ideas for democratic means. The foremost idea that fails logical scrutiny is the dialectical theory of consciousness. Hegel states ...Belief in the nothingness of necessity and in the underworld becomes belief in Heaven because the departed self must unite with its universality, must explicate in this universality what it contains and thus become clear to itself.
